Tamar Braxton’s latest photo that she posted on her Instagram account has her fans asking themselves whether she is with Vincent Herbert or another man. Check it out and tell us what you think.

‘He wants that sugar,’ Tamar captioned the photo in which she is hugging a man.

‘Not checking your husband/ex-husband not sure where you both stand or this guy here either, but that guy looks like he has a beard and his hair is black. Vincent has a low fade without a beard. This guy also looks well fit and muscular, Vince is not that fit and muscular. …I hope this is a possible connection, judging by this…you both look good embracing one another,’ one of her fans told her.

‘Its Vince yall know he lost a lot of weight. She would never stand in public with no one hugged up with no one but Vincent lol,’ another follower posted.

‘Such a tres cute look and the hair looked bomb and so perfect with the ensemble 😍!! Side note… dude’s blazer/jacket is bomb as well 🙌🔥💞!! #thispicisawin😘’ another person posted.

‘Yes, that is Vince, her hubby. She loves that man. And he is her hubby she has every right, marriages go through things but God is bigger than things he can fix it just like that. @tamarbraxton go ahead baby that’s yours,’ someone else believes it’s Vince in the pic as well.

‘Ohh shit you looking like your mama 🤣😅 thought she was getting some sugar and you was proud of it,’ another fan said.

‘Is that mommy’s wig Tay Tay? I’m asking for myself. Are you giving the sugar? Is he gonna get the sugar? We all wanna know… guess we’ll find out on the next episode dragon ball Z 🤷🏽‍♀️,’ someone asked Tamar.

Joey Chestnut Just Set Another Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest Record

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut broke another record on Wednesday – chomping down 74 hot dogs (and buns) in 10 minutes – to win his 11th Nathan’s Fourth of July Hot Dog-Eating Contest on Coney Island in New York City.

Miki Sudo won the women’s contest, eating 37 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Michelle Lesco took second with 28 hot dogs, and Juliet Lee came in third, eating 25 hot dogs.

Announcers attributed the generally lower scores this Fourth of July to the high heat and humidity. At 91 degrees and sunny, the leading eaters were sweating profusely as they chowed down.

But the heat didn’t stop Chestnut. He bested last year’s record of 72 hot dogs. The victory was not without drama, however. After a brief judging dispute, it was revealed that Chestnut had eaten many more hot dogs than the running tally had indicated.

Eduardo Munoz Alvarez – Getty ImagesWinner Miki Sudo (C) competes in the women’s annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4, 2018 in the Coney Island neighborhood of the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Sudo has won the contest 5 years in a row.

In the men’s division, Carmen Cincotti came in second place, managing to eat 64 hot dogs, while Darron Breeden placed third with 43 hot dogs, unseating last year’s runner-up Matt “Megatoad” Stonie.

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, which takes place on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, has become must-see TV for many families on July 4. More than 20,000 people turn out to watch the competition and ESPN broadcasts the eating contest live to over 1 million viewers.

Interest in the competition has grown in recent years thanks in large part to the rivalry of star eaters like Chestnut.

Chestnut first won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2007, when he ate 66 hot dogs to set a new world record and defeat six-time defending champion Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi. He went on to win every year until 2015, when he was defeated by Stonie, who ate 62 hot dogs to Chestnut’s 60.

In 2016, Chestnut regained his title, eating 70 hot dogs. He won again in 2017, consuming 72 hot dogs and setting a new contest record.

Following his 2017 win, Chestnut declared, “I definitely have room for more… I’m looking forward to next year.”

In 2017, Sudo ate 41 hot dogs to win the women’s section, beating her nearest rivals Lesco, who ate 32 1/2 hot dogs and Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas who ate 30.

Chestnut and Sudo each won a $ 10,000 first place prize. The remainder of the $ 40,000 prize purse was divided between the runners up in the men’s and women’s sections.

George Shea, who has hosted the contest since 1991, gave extra attention to the reigning champion this year. Known for his outlandish pre-contest comments, he introduced Chestnut as “the champion of now and of always.” As Chestnut pulled ahead in this year’s contest, the crowd took up chanting his name.

EMPLOYMENT SEARCH UPDATE:

This Year’s Wimbledon Could Give Tennis Fans Another Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal Classic

At this point, coming up with novel ways to describe the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal rivalry is like trying to eat just one Skittle out of the bag — it’s a futile exercise. We all know the contrasts that make their tennis duels so compelling. Federer’s the artiste, the effortless ballet dancer, grace on grass. Nadal’s the snarling street fighter, the mental grinder, the…don’t say it, please, okay, here it goes…the swashbuckler. (Dear Grand Slam tournament officials: is there any way to officially retire the Nadal-as-buccaneering-swordsman-cliche at a post-match ceremony?)

So give the producers of Strokes of Genius, a new documentary that explores the classic 2008 Federer-Nadal Wimbledon final — which Nadal won in five sets — credit for juxtaposing the two all-time greats in a way that didn’t feel tired. The film features a clip of Nadal, arms ripped, standing beside Federer, who was sporting a preppy sweater with gold-colored buttons.

“I remember seeing Nadal, in his sleeveless shirt, bulging biceps,” says BBC commentator David Law, host of The Tennis Podcast, in the documentary. Someone wolf-whistles at the chiseled Spanish star as he warms up before the match. “And then right next to him,” says Law, “you’ve got what looked like a prince.”

Strokes of Genius, which airs July 1 at 8 p.m. ET on Tennis Channel, serves as more than a mere nostalgia trip. Sure, reliving arguably the most riveting match in tennis history, which saw Nadal end Federer’s quest to win six straight Wimbledon titles in a four hour, 48 minute epic that included two rain delays and ended in near darkness, is delightful. But the documentary stands out for its timeliness. Who would have thought, a decade after that incredible July day — which saw Nadal squander a two sets-to-none advantage before prevailing in a fifth-set tiebreaker, finally giving him his first Wimbledon title — that both players would still be going strong? That they’d be 1-2 in the world (Nadal No. 1, Federer No. 2) in 2018, when Federer’s 36 years old, and Nadal’s 32? That they’d have won the last six Grand Slams running (Federer’s the 2017 Australian Open champ, the 2017 Wimbledon winner, and the 2018 Aussie champion; Nadal’s taken the last two French Opens, and won last year’s U.S. Open)? That the promise of another Nadal-Federer Wimbledon final, another unforgettable duel a decade later, is very, very real?

Both players participated in the documentary, which is based on the book by Sports Illustrated executive editor Jon Wertheim, who’s also an executive producer of the film (Meredith Corporation owns both TIME and Sports Illustrated). Fans learn more about Federer’s early proclivities for temper tantrums — it’s true, the unflappable Federer almost went all John McEnroe on everyone.

“I [sought] perfection maybe way too early in my life,” Federer says. Footage of a prepubescent Federer making faces and kicking balls and dropping rackets follows. “We sometimes felt very ashamed,” says his father, Robert, who’s spent the last 15 years beaming on millions of television sets around the globe as his son piled up his 20 major championships. “We really took him many times aside and said ‘Roger, I’m not going along with you anymore. I’m not playing the fool.’”

“I used to tell him, your bad behavior is like sending an invitation to your opponent,” says Federer’s mother, Lynette. “Here I am, beat me. I’m ready to beat today. So go ahead.”

Federer listened to his folks. Nadal’s family also supported his rise: his uncle Toni, who’s featured prominently in Strokes of Genius, coached him for years. Nadal makes a comforting admission in the film: When up against Federer, he led the fourth set tiebreaker 5-2, and had two serves to close out the match. But then his mind failed him. “I start to feel nervous,” Nadal says. He missed his first serve, and said he had a feeling he’d double fault. He did exactly that; Federer charged back to force a fifth set.

Superstar athletes rarely cop to mental frailty. Doing so offers comfort for the rest of us.

Nadal’s lapse makes his eventual win ever more impressive. He could have folded, instead, he fought back and won anyway. That victory was Nadal’s first Grand Slam win off of the Roland Garros clay. He’s gone on to win 17 slams, second only to Federer’s 20. Nadal became Federer’s foil: he owns a 23-15 head-to-head advantage against Federer, though Federer prevailed in their last Grand Slam final, when he beat Nadal in five sets at the 2017 Australian Open. Both players continue to push each other to unprecedented excellence.

“I had to embrace the idea of a rival,” Federer says in Strokes of Genius. “In the beginning I didn’t want to have one. And then eventually I realized, there’s something good to take out of these situations. So I maybe have to adjust my game a little bit. I don’t like to do that, per se. But why not? Let’s go.”

Strokes of Genius celebrates a sport’s golden age. All that remains for Nadal and Federer: writing their Wimbledon sequel.

Chris Brown Slammed With A Restraining Order From Another Woman

Is that man at it again?

Singer Chris Brown is facing legal trouble for allegedly hitting and stalking a woman, Page Six reports.

A woman named Cassandra received a temporary protective order against the 29-year-old after she claimed that after she attended one of his parties, Brown began stalking and hitting her.

According to legal docs filed earlier this week, Cassandra alleged Chris never threatened her with a weapon but has been following her around and hitting her on different days.

The R&B star is ordered to stay 100 yards from the alleged victim. He is also forbidden from contacting her in any way.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos said to the site, “This is sad because it’s obviously the disjointed ranting of someone Chris doesn’t know who has mental health issues. This just creates celebrity meet and greets with deranged fans, and perhaps the Court may want to engage their Mental Health Department.”

A hearing for the case is set for July 3rd.

Android Antitrust Fine

About a year ago, Google received a massive antitrust fine in Europe for abusing its search dominance. The EU decided Google should pay €2.42 billion for its transgressions or about $ 2.7 billion. That was more than double what Intel got a few years before that.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of that fine, the EU is about to deliver a new multi-billion dollar blow to Google, and this time around it might be a more significant one, because it’s about Android.

It’s time to take another look at Capri Sun

by

Whitney Barthel

posted in Products

Motherhood can be exasperating. And the decisions we make just to feed our children can be enough to scramble your brain. There are so few times a product is 1) easy 2) affordable and 3) not terrible for you.

Whitney Barthel kidsA completely typical moment at our house.

I’m a mother of five; all three of these things are important to me. So when I find something that hits the trifecta, it’s enough to make me jump for joy…or perhaps just watch my kids do it. And from then on, having said product on hand is a real no-brainer.

Here’s the thing: my boys insist on bringing their lunch to school, mainly because all their friends pack a lunch, and heaven forbid they have to wait in line for hot lunch while their friends are already hanging out at a table.

Anyway, this obviously complicates things when I’m scrambling to get three kids out the door and onto the bus by 7 a.m. To make my mornings a tiny bit more manageable, I keep a few key products around that are easy to throw in a lunchbox as part of a well-rounded meal — or at least one I know I won’t get a call about from the principal or PTA.

One of these key items is Capri Sun. The brand has evolved from the one you grew up with, and now offers a ton of different options for picky parents like me who want to give their kids a decent juice drink. Right now, the boys and I are really digging the 100% Juice, Organic, and Fruit Refreshers lines, both at school and at home. They’re made from all-natural ingredients, and contain no added sugar* (THANK YOU!), artificial color, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. Oh yeah, and according to my boys, they are super yummy .

While all three of the Capri Sun lines are made with all-natural ingredients, there are a few differences between the products.

  1. The 100% Juice line is just what it says — 100% Juice. Every pouch contains 3/4 cup of real fruit juice**. Try the apple, berry, fruit punch, grape or watermelon flavors.
  2. The Organic line is made from USDA Certified organic fruit and is available in apple, fruit punch, grape, tropical punch, and strawberry lemonade. My boys love the strawberry lemonade. They tell me it tastes extra delicious after getting all hot and sweaty riding bikes or wrestling on the trampoline.
  3. The Fruit Refreshers are my personal favorite and contain 50 percent less sugar than other leading juice drinks***. Fruit Refreshers come in four flavors: Awesomely Apple, Very Berry, Aloha Mango and Orange Pineapple Tango.

Bonus for moms like me who sometimes need a little treat after a grueling session of 8-minute abs: all Fruit Refreshers flavors are between 45-50 calories. Score!

Honestly, Capri Sun has made it really easy for moms to give our kids (or ourselves) a guilt-free beverage…and one that won’t bust your grocery budget either. #MomWin

Another One: YouTube Annouces New Music Streaming Service

FRANCE-INTERNET-TECHNOLOGY-LEWEB12

Source: AFP / Getty

Not a fan of Tidal, Spotify or Apple Music? YouTube might have the music streaming service for you.

YouTube usually the go-to destination for your music video needs announced this week that it will be joining the music streaming wars with YouTube Music. The company calls its latest venture a “new music streaming service made for music with the magic of YouTube” that promises to make searching for music more straightforward and more personalized than ever.

Along with the launch of YouTube Music will be a reimagined mobile app and a brand new desktop player specially designed for music. In addition to their already massive library of music videos, YouTube Music will offer it’s users official versions of millions of songs, thousands of playlists, artist radio and more.

YouTube Music looks to one-up the competition by having remixes, live performances, and covers of songs that can only be found on its service. Another feature the service will offer is a unique search method that allows users to find songs they don’t know the title or by using a term like “that hipster song with whistling” or even the songs lyrics.

The service will also adapt to users in the really cool way. The home screen will adjust based on peoples whereabouts, listening history and what they are doing. If you happen to walk in a gym, YouTube Music will generate a playlist to help get you motivated, or if you happen to be at an airport, the service will make a playlist to help you relax.

Pretty genius, BUT we can foresee some people being uncomfortable with using the feature due to some insecurities with apps tracking you.

Now the big question? How much will the service cost? There is currently an ad-supported version of YouTube Music users can enjoy for free. If you want to go ad-free, there is a YouTube Music Premium subscription available for just $ 9.99 a month. If you’re already a paid subscriber of Google Play Music, you will get a membership to YouTube Music as a part of your subscription.

As of Tuesday, the rollout of the Youtube Music experience has begun in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. The service will be expanding broadly and in the coming weeks and will soon be available in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. If you want to find out when YouTube Music will be available to you in your country, you can head here for more information.

So are you guys excited about YouTube Music? It sounds very appealing and worth the money. Let us know in the comment section below.

From one mom to another, you’ll want to try these bottles

by

Jamie Reed

posted in Products

Getting through the first months of parenting is kind of like going through boot camp. You’re thrown into nonstop challenges that test you physically and mentally, and coming out on the other side (relatively) unscathed feels like a real accomplishment. Now that I’m three months in, I’ve had time to make lots of mistakes and learn what works for us.

Now, clearly I’m no parenting pro, but I do feel like I have a tiny bit of knowledge to share with a new mom on a few things, one of which would be keeping your baby happy with their feeding routine. Since breastfeeding exclusively didn’t work out for us, we quickly had to move to bottle-feeding and find our flow there. And when I had the chance to check out MAM Anti-Colic bottles, I knew just what I was looking for.

When it comes to bottle-feeding my baby, I’ve got a few strict standards about what I buy and use.

1. A trusted name I know

MAM Anti-Colic Bottles

When I was pregnant I started my search for must-have products and asked lots of moms for recommendations on trusted brands they loved. From pacifiers to bottles, MAM has always made the list of “mom favorites,” with great quality products that have met the needs of parents and babies for years.

There was no need to convince me to try these bottles, MAM’s reputation speaks for itself.

2. Bottles that are easy to clean

Anyone who is bottle-feeding knows how important it is to have bottles that are fast and easy to clean. (This might be my top criteria, in fact.) No one wants to spend all their free time disinfecting bottles — MAM Anti-Colic Bottles are easily sterilized with just 3 minutes in the microwave, no separate sterilizer necessary. The bottles unscrew at the top AND bottom with wide openings, making them easy to clean, prep, and put together. All important features when you’re making bottles in the middle of the night.

MAM Anti-Colic Bottle parts

If you need to sterilize lots of bottles at once, MAM also has a microwave steam sterilizer that will hold up to six bottles and all their parts.

MAM bottle sterilizer

3. Feeding that is easy, efficient, and keeps your baby happy

MAM Anti-Colic Bottles have a SkinSoft™ textured nipple that, for babies who are still breastfeeding, makes for an easy transition between breast and bottle. The bottles also have a vented base that regulates pressure, ensuring my little guy doesn’t get air in his tummy while he’s eating. The milk flows evenly, without bubbles and without foaming.

mom feeding baby - MAM Anti-Colic Bottles

baby eating from MAM Anti-Colic Bottle

The MAM Anti-Colic Bottles meet all my criteria for a great baby bottle and I’d recommend them to new or expecting moms. There was a noticeable difference in how my son ate with these bottles, compared to some others we’ve tried. Less drooling, less gas, and clearly, a happy, full baby. You can’t argue with that!

happy baby

Another ‘Game of Thrones’ death: George R.R. Martin’s LiveJournal

TwitterFacebook

George R. R. Martin already has a lot of blood on his hands, as the notoriously ruthless murderer of everyone’s favorite Game of Thrones characters.

But on April 13, the fantasy writer added an unusual yet still tragic victim to his list by removing his blog from LiveJournal and consequently gutting the platform of its last vestiges of relevance.

Don’t worry too much, though! Martin’s Not a Blog already made like Jon Snow and was resurrected elsewhere, and in much the same form — save for a haircut and other superficial changes. You’ll still be getting updates on his involvement with the Game of Thrones show, progress (or lack thereof) on The Song of Ice and Fire series, and its many companion books. Read more…

Grab said the acquisition was the “largest-ever of its kind in Southeast Asia,” with the Singaporean-based firm to take over operations in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and of course, Singapore. Read more…

Stephen Colbert Delivers Last-Minute Gary Cohn Takedown: ‘Another Rat Flees’

CBS

The news that President Trump’s chief economics adviser Gary Cohn was adding his name to the list of former White House officials broke late enough on Tuesday that Stephen Colbert didn’t have time to get it into his Late Show monologue. But that didn’t stop him from talking about it on his show.

As showrunner Chris Licht revealed on Twitter, the resignation announcement actually happened during the taping. So writers huddled during Colbert’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and delivered him a last-minute bit he could deliver from his desk midway through the show.

“Now, listen, folks, I told you earlier about Trump’s tariffs and they might already be creating problems,” Colbert said after Winfrey had left the stage. “During this taping we found out Gary Cohn is resigning as Trump’s top economic adviser. Damn! I had Jared in my Trump resignation fantasy league!”

Aldi Is Hiring Another 500 People for Stores in Washington D.C. and Chicago

After launching major hiring blitzes in Florida and New Jersey, Aldi is at it again with hundreds of new jobs to support its U.S. expansion.

The discount grocer is hosting hiring events at every Aldi store in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and south Pennsylvania areas Tuesday, March 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. That means you can walk into your local store and possibly leave with one of 300 Aldi jobs.

But wait, there’s more — 200 jobs more!

Aldi is doing the same thing for all 78 stores around Chicago from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.

Check Aldi’s website if you live in one of those areas to find a store. And if you don’t happen to live in those states, check out The Penny Hoarder Jobs page on Facebook for other opportunities.

Opportunities for a Variety of Aldi Jobs

During the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Pennsylvania hiring events, Aldi is looking for associates, shift managers and manager trainees.

A high school diploma or GED and some retail experience are preferred for all three positions, and you’ll have to be able to work between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. any day of the week. If you can lift 45 pounds, pass a background check and drug screening, you’re golden.

Here’s how the pay breaks down: Store associates and shift managers will earn up to $ 13.50 an hour. Shift managers will garner an extra $ 4.50 an hour when performing managerial work.

Manager trainees, who preferably have some management experience, can make up to $ 62,000 annually, with the opportunity to earn as much as $ 90,000 per year as a store manager.

Aldi is just looking for store associates during the Chicago hiring events.

All Aldi employees have the option to open a 401(k), and those who work more than 25 hours a week are eligible for dental coverage and health insurance.

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig to us.

Red Gerard Just Wants to Snowboard and Eat Burritos. And Win Another Olympic Gold Medal

Red Gerard is tired. Last weekend he won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. This week he’s all over the news talking about it. And next week, he’ll be back in South Korea to compete in the men’s big air snowboarding event.

The 17-year-old was the first American to win a gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Games and he’s become something of a legend after cameras captured him dropping the f-bomb while celebrating his slopestyle win. Fans adore his carefree approach to race day — news reports described how he binge-watched Brooklyn Nine-Nine the night before his first event, woke up late and lost his jacket, and then nailed it on the mountain.

Gerard is actually that calm about competing. “I mean I kind of just treat every contest like a normal day,” he explained to TIME in a video interview in between his Olympic events.

As for what’s next, he stifled a yawn and said, ‘I just want to hang out. I’m excited for all this media stuff to be over and just start snowboarding again.” He’s also looking forward to eating some burritos.

Larry Nassar Sentenced to Another 40 to 125 Years in Prison

Former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar has been sentenced to another 40 to 125 years in prison for molesting three girls at an elite training center under the guise of medical treatment.

The 54-year-old appeared in court in Eaton County, Michigan, on Monday, February 5, for his final sentencing hearing, barring appeals. He was previously sentenced in Ingham County to 40 to 175 years behind bars for sexually assaulting minors, in addition to 60 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.

During Monday’s hearing, Nassar apologized to the court, saying that his victims’ statements “impacted me to my innermost core.” However, Judge Janice Cunningham said she didn’t believe Nassar was remorseful for his actions. “I’m not convinced that you truly understand that what you did was wrong and the devastating impact you have had on the victims, their families and friends,” she said. “You are in denial.”

More than 200 former patients — including Olympians Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber, spoke in court in recent weeks, accusing the disgraced doctor of sexual abuse dating as far back as 1997.

Nassar was almost attacked in court on Friday, February 2, by Randy Margraves, a man whose three daughters said they were abused by the former Michigan State University physician. Margraves, who was tackled by sheriff’s deputies before he could get to Nassar, later apologized in a press conference, saying, “This cannot be a lawless society. I know that. I lost control, but I gained control later in a holding cell.”

Nassar must serve his entire federal sentence before his state sentences, which he will serve at the same time.

Earlier this month, Raisman, 23, told Us Weekly exclusively that she doesn’t believe Nassar has been sentenced to enough time in prison. “It’s like he got one year for each person. Like, that’s not enough, you know what I mean?” she said. “He’s gonna die in jail, but any number is never enough.”

Kim Kardashian Debuts New Beaded Braids in Yet Another Underwear-Clad Mirror Selfie

From a new baby girl to a new hairstyle, Kim Kardashian West has revealed the latest change in her life.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality star, 37, debuted her beaded braids on Snapchat and Instagram Story Friday in a mirror selfie video to the tune of pregnant sister Khloé Kardashian‘s ex-boyfriend French Montana’s 2013 single “Pop That” featuring Rick Ross.

Though she did not say a word in the footage, Kardashian West showed off her new look by swaying slightly on the bed in what appeared to be a motel room.

The mother of three posed up in a plunging white long sleeve shirt and a pair of color-coordinated underwear while holding a landline telephone in one hand and a cell phone in the other, recording herself.

The reality star’s blonde locks were braided back in cornrows against her head and each braid was finished off with white beads.

Kardashian West has previously been criticised and accused of cultural appropriation for wearing her hair in “boxer braids”.

The photo comes a day after the KKW Beauty mogul shared a bathroom mirror wearing only a pair of sparkling panties, while carefully covering her chest with her arms.

In addition, Kardashian West’s braids may be the latest alternative to handle the upkeep of her icy platinum blonde hair, which she previously called super “high maintenance.” (Kim spends 13+ hours with her hairstylist Chris Appleton touching up her roots!)

Also this week, the star quickly shut down the rumor she had returned to brunette, clarifying the reason why her hair may have appeared to be a bit darker.

“No it’s just wet and slicked back but good observation lol,” the star tweeted back to the fan who voiced a suspicion about Kardashian West’s hair in a video of herself baking blueberry muffins on Snapchat.

“We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care,” she wrote.

5 Steps to Take if You Think Another Government Shutdown Is Imminent

If there was a time to hoard your pennies, it is now.

A government shutdown may not affect you directly, but for many, it could mean going without a paycheck for an undetermined amount of time

We don’t want you to shoulder that financial stress alone, so we’ve compiled a list of five ways to pinch your pennies and maybe earn a few until we’re on the other side of this crisis.

1. Revisit Your Budget and Cut Where You Can

If you don’t have a budget, it’s OK, but you need to make one soon.

If you do have a budget, but you spend outside of it and never get around to adjusting it, you need to be honest with yourself and your wallet. Start tracking as many expenses as possible so you know where you stand.

Once you get that in order, get out the scissors and start trimming the fat.

You might start by downgrading your monthly cell phone plan or cutting the cable bill.

Then you can move on to more aggressive tactics — like paying only the minimum on bills, pausing investments, changing your W-4 withholdings, skipping the monthly subscription boxes or magazines, bringing your lunch or experimenting with DIY gifts and personal care — to help save for some of those expenses you can’t avoid.

Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be a budget ninja, and you might just find a new way of life. And depending on how long you remain unsubscribed from a service, you may qualify for a sign-up bonus or a new customer deal if you decide to subscribe again and save more in the long run.

2. Stash Your Cash

All your budgeting and cutting will help keep your cash flow heading the right direction.

Since you may not know when your next payday will be, the best decision is to have as much cash on hand as possible.

Think of it like an emergency fund: That cash will be there to help cover your most essential expenses, like food and shelter.

If you’re a federal employee or service member, consider a no-interest loan from a federal credit union or the no-interest payroll advance loan USAA offers members during a shutdown to keep the income stream flowing.

With a few tricks, you can get cash positive and work toward building up bucks to guarantee your physical and financial survival during the shutdown.

3. Talk to Your Creditors

Scared to let the payment slip or worried about making just the minimum payment?

Call your creditors, no matter how embarrassing, annoying or inconvenient it may seem.

Many credit card companies offer hardship programs that include reduced fees, lowered interest rates, structured payment schedules and lower minimum payments. But use these cautiously, and make sure to ask your credit card company plenty of questions because these programs may result in negative marks on your credit score.

If you’re unable to get hardship assistance, you may want to consider applying for a new credit card with a zero-interest promotion. You can roll some or all of your credit card debt onto this card to help lower your payments and accrued interest.

Mortgage companies offer a variety of loan modification programs that assist qualified borrowers with reduced interest rates or extended loan terms.

Reaching out directly to the creditor shows you care and intend to pay. Most will work with you and your budget, and some may even allow you to defer payments. Wouldn’t that be a relief and totally worth the call? Yeah, we think so too.

4. Find Alternative Income Sources

We have your back. We write a lot about the many ways to keep a stream of income flowing and opportunities to make extra cash on the side.

You can consider quick cash grabs, like selling some of your collectibles online or having a yard sale. You may also find a side hustle that’s right for you, like a temporary gig serving at a restaurant or bar, doing odd jobs or even selling your plasma.

You can also make money from home doing something as simple as babysitting or renting out an extra room to ease the shutdown blues.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your family and friends about your shutdown situation. They may have the perfect odd job for you or know someone who does. Get all the feelers out there to help you stay afloat during uncertain times.

5. Have Sense With Your Cents

Ultimately, be smart with your money. You know yourself and what you can afford. If you need to trick yourself into spending less or saving more, do that.

There are apps that save money for you automatically and others that help you find the best deals on the things you have to buy.

As much we’d love to see you go slash-happy on your debt, now’s not the time to go gangbusters. Stick to the minimums to keep your creditors at bay and stack as many Washingtons, Lincolns and Benjamins as possible.

Having sense is using your better judgement and willpower to resist those impulse buys and hold off any treat yo’ self splurges.

Limit your temptations, and remember that if a shutdown happens, it will only be temporary. You’ve got this!

Stephanie Bolling is a staff writer at The Penny Hoarder. She prefers to stay cash positive.

Celebs Slam Logan Paul Over Another Insensitive Video From Japan

Speaking out. Celebrities are outraged by controversial YouTuber Logan Paul — and they aren’t holding back on social media.

The YouTube star, 22, first received backlash after posting a now-deleted video of an apparent suicide victim hanging from a tree in a Japanese forest on Monday, January 1, but things didn’t end there.

On Friday, January 5, a Twitter account titled “We the Unicorns” shared a resurfaced video seemingly created by Paul for his channel, and captioned it: “Turns out, Logan Paul’s trip to Japan was problematic for many reasons.” The video shows the vlogger blatantly mocking — and disrespecting — the Japanese people and culture while on his trip.

Teen Wolf actor Dylan O’Brien, who very rarely tweets, shared his disgust over the video. “I’ve literally never seen such a gigantic piece of shit,” he wrote on Friday.

Other celebrities, including Life in Pieces star Thomas Sadoski and former heartthrob Devon Sawa, also chimed in. Sadoski wrote, “So the sociopathic disrespect of a dead body was just the climax of an utterly tacky jaunt through Tokyo exhibiting the worst kind of casual racism and ugly-Americanism. Awesome.”

“If Logan Paul amuses and entertains you, I feel incredibly sorry for you. Truly,” Sawa added. “So this guy goes to one of the greatest countries in the world and embarrasses us all for @YouTube likes? Sad.”

As previously reported, the internet personality came under fire after he posted a video titled “We found a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest . . .” The clip received millions of views before it was removed following serious backlash and outrage on social media.

Paul, who boasts more than 15 million subscribers, quickly rebutted with an apology. “Where do I begin . . . Let’s start with this — I’m sorry,” he wrote. “This is a first for me. I’ve never faced criticism like this before, because I’ve never made a mistake like this before. I’m surrounded by good people and believe I make good decisions, but I’m still a human being. I can be wrong.”

He has since decided to take a break from vlogging.

The World Richest People Made Another $1 Trillion in 2017

The richest people on earth became $ 1 trillion richer in 2017, more than four times last year’s gain, as stock markets shrugged off economic, social and political divisions to reach record highs.

The 23% increase on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index

co-founder Bill Gates out of his spot as the world’s richest person in October. Gates, 62, had held the spot since May 2013, and has been donating much of his fortune to charity, including a $ 4.6 billion pledge he made to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in August. Bezos, whose net worth topped $ 100 billion at the end of November, currently has a net worth of $ 99.6 billion compared with $ 91.3 billion for Gates.

George Soros also gave away a substantial part of his fortune, revealing in October that his family office had given $ 18 billion to his Open Society Foundations over the past several years, dropping the billionaire investor to No. 195 on the Bloomberg ranking, with a net worth of $ 8 billion.

By the end of trading Tuesday, Dec. 26, the 500 billionaires controlled $ 5.3 trillion, up from $ 4.4 trillion on Dec. 27, 2016.

“It’s part of the second-most robust and second-longest bull market in history,” said Mike Ryan, chief investment officer for the Americas at UBS Wealth Management, on Dec. 18. “Of all the guidance we gave people over the course of this year, the most important advice was staying invested.”

Winners

The 38 Chinese billionaires on the Bloomberg index added $ 177 billion in 2017, a 65% gain that was the biggest of the 49 countries represented. Hui Ka Yan, founder of developer China Evergrande Group, added $ 25.9 billion, a 350% jump from last year, and the second-biggest U.S. dollar gain on the index, after Bezos.

Technology billionaire Ma Huateng, co-founder of messaging service Tencent Holdings, became Asia’s second-richest person when his fortune nearly doubled to $ 41 billion. The number of Asian billionaires surpassed the U.S. for the first time, according to a UBS Group AG and PricewaterhouseCoopers report.

The U.S. has the largest presence on the index, with 159 billionaires who added $ 315 billion, an 18% gain that gives them a collective net worth of $ 2 trillion. Russia’s 27 richest people put behind them the economic pain that followed President Vladimir Putin’s 2014 annexation of Crimea, adding $ 29 billion to $ 275 billion, surpassing the collective net worth they had before western economic sanctions began.

It was also a banner year for tech moguls, with the 57 technology billionaires on the index adding $ 262 billion, a 35% increase that was the most of any sector on the ranking. Facebook

fb

co-founder Mark Zuckerberg had the fourth-largest U.S. dollar increase on the index, adding $ 22.6 billion, or 45%, and filed plans to sell 18% of his stake in the social media giant as part of his plan to give away the majority of his $ 72.6 billion fortune.

In all, the 440 billionaires on the index who added to their fortunes in 2017, gained a combined $ 1.05 trillion.

Losers

The fortune of French telecommunications billionaire Patrick Drahi fell $ 4.1 billion to $ 6.3 billion, a 39% drop. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, the richest person in Saudi Arabia, dropped $ 1.9 billion to $ 17.8 billion after he was detained in a crackdown against corruption led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that targeted royals, government officials and business leaders.

There were 60 billionaires who fell from the ranking, including South African retailer Christo Wiese, whose fortune dropped to $ 1.8 billion from a peak of $ 7.7 billion, in August 2016, after news of an accounting scandal at his Steinhoff International Holdings NV

My 5-year-old says she has a twin who lives with another family

by

Kelly Wilbanks

posted in Parenting

This sweet story about two unrelated girls who are so close they truly believe they’re twins was sent to me because my daughter has her own faux “twin.” Both she and her friend claim this twin-ship, which graduated from sisterhood because that just wasn’t close enough.

When you ask my daughter about her family, she talks about her mommy, daddy, and little sisters (Evie and Annie), and then goes into great detail about her twin who lives with another family.

family-christmas-picture-twins

I asked Vivianne what makes her and Carol twins and here is what she had to say: “We like Alicorns. We’re sisters, and twins, and we love everything, and we love everything the same. And we love each other to the core.” It’s safe to say that Carol is deeply loved by Vivianne.

It’s also safe to say Vivianne is deeply loved by Carol. When asked why she loves Vivi she said, “Cause we are best friends and will be besties forever and maybe we’ll even be on AFV (America’s funniest videos) together and just be sisters and twins.”

They are “twins of the soul” — where it counts.

They met at another little girl’s birthday party when both were 3. The party was wrapping up and I noticed that Vivi and an equally rambunctious little girl were bouncing on some benches in the waiting area of the pizzeria. I stood near them not wanting to end their fun, but not wanting either girl to get hurt or bother other guests. Eventually that play ended and they were onto the next thing.

Vivi-Carol-dancing-twins

In the words of Carol’s mother, “This very pregnant lady waddled over to me and said, ‘I think our girls would be good friends.'” I was right. These girls love like sisters, they fight like sisters, they dream big adventures for each other. Anything we do, Vivi wants Carol along too. We’re planning family vacations and future camping trips with their family in mind.

There are definitely times when the girls need space. One time they were sitting next to each other at a restaurant and getting on each other’s nerves. After we left, Vivi sat in her car seat angrily telling me that Carol wasn’t her sister anymore. She was 3 1/2. I tried to help her sort through her flurry of emotions by asking her what she liked about Carol. She said, “I like that she looks just like me.”

It was a bit narcissistic (that was the only reason she could come up with) and also puzzling because on the surface they are both beautiful and lovely, but look nothing alike. I said nothing. Who am I to point out differences and make them a thing? I didn’t comment on the narcissism either because well, age 3.

Vivi-and-Carol-pictures-twins

I’ve done my best to stay out of the way of their friendship. The only time I put my foot down was when Vivianne began pleading to live with Carol and her family. My hormonally influenced self (I was pregnant again) was a bit offended at the time.

I see their friendship like I do my garden. As long as it’s given the basics, it will grow on its own. Besides some skepticism from older kids when they describe themselves as twins I think our community is helping them flourish as well.

Vivi-Carol-birthday-party-twins

It breaks my heart that our country is divided over something so basic and natural as skin color. This year I have become more aware than ever of the privileges my skin color provides. I want to fix this. My heart cries to join the marches for racial equality, but I know the greatest impact I have might be in my own home.

At this point I just need to stand back and let love do its thing. As my daughter added to her already long list of reasons why she loves her twin, “And one more thing — we both speak the same language even though we have different skin color, it does not matter. We love each other.”

Does your kiddo have a brother/sister/twin from another family?

Say What Now? Convicted Sex Offender Attacked in Court By Another Prisoner After Pleading Guilty to Sexually Assaulting a 4-Year-Old [Video]

A fellow prisoner took punishment into his own hands when he attacked a man in court who had just pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.

via NYDN:

Christopher Elwell, 29, was in court Thursday on charges that he assaulted the child during a sleepover at a Dover Housing Authority property in June.

After his arrest, Elwell told officers that he was watching porn on his cell phone in a bedroom with the victim and two other children when the 4-year-old said she wanted to imitate what was in the video.

It’s not clear what his relationship is to the children.

Elwell pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to 7 1/2 to 15 years in prison. According to WMUR, he also pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender for a 2008 incident in which he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old.

As Elwell took a seat in the back of the courtroom after his sentencing, inmate Josiah Davies approached Elwell and started head-butting him.

Video shows guards pulling a shackled Davies off of Elwell.

The Stafford County Attorney’s Office told WMUR that the two prisoners did not know each other, and they believe something about Elwell’s case set Davies off.

Davies, who was arrested for forgery and violation of probation, was in court Thursday for a dispositional hearing. It was pushed back to Dec. 4 after the fight.

He’s currently being held on a $ 100,000 cash bond. Elwell will not be allowed to have unsupervised contact with juveniles after he’s released from prison.

Watch below.

Will ‘The Last Jedi’ Be Another ‘Empire Strikes Back’?

Will 'The Last Jedi' Be Another 'Empire Strikes Back'?

Many longtime Star Wars fan will likely concur that The Empire Strikes Back, the second movie of the original trilogy and the fifth episode overall, is the best of the lot. Directed by the late Irvin Kershner, the high octane space opera darkened the tone and divided our heroes as the Empire continually assaulted them. It featured dazzling space battles, imaginative worlds, snappy dialogue, and ended on an indelible, multi-layered cliffhanger.

Another Option for Suits on a Budget: JomersIt’s hard to…

Another Option for Suits on a Budget: Jomers

It’s hard
to overstate what a wasteland the entry level suit market was a decade
ago. When I was coming out of college (more than a decade ago!), nearly
every guy I knew was going to Joseph A. Bank or Brooks Brothers (if they
had a little more scratch) for their “interview suit.” I wanted a nicer
suit myself, but I was working as a bartender and felt $ 250 was a
stretch, let alone $ 500–I ended up with a boxy 3-button number from
Joey Banks (on sale!). Not much has changed. A few years back, Derek wrote a great guide to first suit choices at any price level–there were only two options at $ 500 or less.

So
I was glad to read about Jomers suits, which intend to offer higher
quality and more modern styling at a consistent price of $ 250, about the
same price as the current model of my old Joseph A. Bank suit. (Jomers
also makes trousers, shirts, and polos, all in a modern, trim, generally
Italian style.
) Jomers sent me two suits to review and try on, and I talked over email with Jomers’ CEO Meyer Dagmy. So what
can you get for $ 250 these days?

The Nicest Suit You’re Likely to Find for the Price

The Jomers suits I received were
both in 100% wool, Italian fabric from Vitale Barberis Canonico, one in
a lighter blue and one in navy with a little tonal variation (you can
see my natural light photos of both above–closeups of the jacket are
the darker blue). The fabrics are certainly nicer than what you’d find
in a mall–more depth to the color, more interesting weave, and they
hang well. They seem about in line with SuitSupply, which is our usual
recommendation for suits <$ 500 and the line you most often see Jomers compared against.

The
construction and quality is solid for the price. They’re half
canvassed, which is a measure of quality you may not appreciate until
you’ve worn the suit a decent amount (for what it’s worth, my 2000s
Joseph A Bank suit eventually got the dreaded bubbling in the chest and
lapel as the fusing fell apart–suits that are half canvassed have a
better reputation). The suits are mostly machine made (not a criticism–you won’t find a lot of handwork in off-the-rack suits under $ 1000). Meyer told me that there is some hand stitching in the shoulder, as well.

The Jomers suit wasn’t stiff out the box and the
lapels and body were shaped well–without a long-term test it
would be hard to know how it would break in. I did see a few loose
stitches here and there, but nothing structural. I’ve seen some complaints online that the suits arrive wrinkled, but that seems like a ridiculous thing to complain about. You should expect to get any off-the-rack suit altered, and your tailor can steam or press the suit.

Cut and Styling

Jomers
cuts a modern suit in a style that should suit most young-ish guys who want a slim suit for work or formal-but-not-too-formal occasions. The suits are two-button, single breasted, with flap hip
pockets and double vents. The lapels are a moderate width and the gorge
is on the higher side. They have a barchetta-shaped breast
pocket (not as exaggerated as I’ve seen on some Italian jackets).
Trousers are a standard drop six (e.g. a size 40R jacket comes with 34
waist pants), flat front, trim, and tapered. They have a split waistband
in the rear, which in my experience helps the waist give a little with
movement.

Jomers’ model is pretty much exactly what you’re looking for in a first suit. A
current-looking suit that doesn’t take a lot of chances. If the only
suit in your closet has a ticket pocket, contrast stitching, and a peak
lapel, you overdid it. Jomers suits are restrained in that
aspect–although they do offer a more casual model with patch hip
pockets. The horn buttons complement the fabrics and the lining is
industry standard Bemberg (pants are lined as well).

Jomers
suits feature pick stitching (a decorative line of edge stitching in
places like the lapel and pocket flaps), a detail that in the past was
seen on higher-priced suits that you see more often these
days–sticklers for conservative dress might find it overly decorative.

image

Fit and Sizing

Jomers
aims to make a trim suit (one of the things that differentiates them
from the low-armhole, lowest-common-denominator budget suits out there)
and they aren’t kidding. I found the suits I handled to be a bit tighter
all around than any of my other off-the-rack jackets, save maybe Italian brand Boglioli. Without alterations, the shoulders were
trim but OK (see photo); the chest fit quite close and the waist button
pulled.

The armholes are high, but not constricting.

(For what it’s worth, I measured these Jomers size 42 jackets as about 22 inches across the chest, or 44 all around. This measurement can’t capture the shape of a jacket but it’s a decent shorthand for slim vs looser fits. I don’t wear particularly slim suits and most of my jackets are in the range of  45-46 around the chest.)

A competent alterations tailor can tweak some of the fit of a jacket (which anyone buying a new off-the-rack suit should account for, in time and money). Take care, however, that a new suit fits how you like in the shoulders and chest, which are a challenge if not impossible to alter significantly.

I’ve tried SuitSupply’s Napoli and Sienna models in 42 as well, and I found Jomers’ suits to be slightly tighter in the chest and waist. Meyer told me that some customers have said Jomers suits aren’t as trim as they’d like–based on the suits I tried that surprises me.

Currently, the suits are offered only as a jacket with the accompanying drop-six trousers. Jomers plans to offer separates in the future to allow customers to order trousers in a different size, and may do so in their next run (slated for January 2018).

The trousers fit me rather well. I
wouldn’t alter a thing except have the hems finished. I found the rise on the trousers to be neither very high nor very low.

Buying Jomers Suits

One
thing Joe Banks and Brooks have going for them is they’re in every
decently sized city. Walk in and you can try stuff on, and
even line up alterations. Jomers is able to offer their suits at such a
low price at least in part because they don’t have to pay for retail
spaces and sales associates all over the place. The upside for customers
is obvious–you can get a suit that might otherwise be out of your price
range. The trade off is that you have to order online without trying
on, and in Jomers’ case the supply and demand are such that you pretty
much have to order as soon as wares become available (stuff sells out quickly). Meyer told me they intend to double the number of units available in the next batch, which had 200-250 suits available in each fabric.

Jomers offers free shipping, and has a 14-day full-refund return policy (buyer pays return shipping). So the only real risk in ordering is that the suit you want may not be available when your return is complete. If I were ordering a Jomers suit today, I would likely order my usual size and one size up, then return the size that didn’t fit as well, and factor the return shipping cost into the cost of my suit.

We generally recommend you save to buy what you really want, and recommend a lot of tailoring that requires some investment. But many guys just aren’t ready to buy a $ 500+ suit. Jomers solidly fills a niche for people who want better fabric and non-stodgy styling at a price that doesn’t assume you already have a six-figure salary.

It looks like there’s another celebrity baby to get excited about for 2018

Congratulations are definitely in order…

eddie redmayne second baby

From the editors of InStyle US
Words by Jennifer Davis

It’s definitely the year for celebrity babies, with pregnancy announcements emerging left, right and centre.

This week it’s a big congratulations for Eddie Redmayne! He and his wife Hannah are expecting their second child together, according to E! News.

Rex

‘Eddie and Hannah Redmayne are delighted to confirm they are expecting their second child,’ the actor’s rep told the entertainment news outlet. The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star and his wife welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Iris May Redmayne, in June 2016.

No word yet on when baby number two is due, but we expect the family is overjoyed with the news, especially Redmayne, who gushed about being a father last year on Ellen. ‘Before you’re a parent, you sort of hear people talking about [not getting any sleep] and suddenly you’re the guy who’s like floating in a sort of constant jet lag with a constant IV of caffeine. So yes, I’ve become that person. It’s worth every minute,’ he said.

‘It’s that amazing thing when it’s three o’clock in the morning and you go in and you’re sort of gently furious and then you get a little smile and your heart breaks a bit, and it’s totally worth it.’

Congratulations to these two!

Another One?! Kourtney Kardashian Is Reportedly Pregnant and Expecting with a Child with Boyfriend Younes Bendjima

It looks like Kourtney Kardashian has joined sisters Kylie Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian in the expectant mothers club.

Life and Style is reporting that Kourtney is expecting her fourth child — but not with Scott Disick. The father of Kourtney’s alleged baby is current boyfriend, 24-year-old Younes Bendjima.

via Life and Style:

“She was thrilled to learn she was expecting,” a source told Life & Style exclusively. However, for now, Kourtney and her boyfriend of one year Younes Bendjima are only telling close family and friends. “She loves being part of a large family and having so many siblings,” the insider adds, “and she wants the same for Penelope, Mason, and Reign.”

Kourtney, 38, has made it very clear she wanted more kids — even after her split from longtime boyfriend Scott Disick. “I would have more. I could see myself with six kids,” Kourtney told Cosmopolitan magazine. “I just don’t know what’s in God’s plan.” She does know that Younes, 24, is the perfect dad-to-be.

“She needs a man who will be both present and sober,” the source explained. “With his charming personality and intelligence, Younes will make the perfect father.” However, it doesn’t look like Scott, 34, is happy about her new relationship. Life & Style previously reported that Scott was trying to ruin Kourt’s relationship with the young model.

“Scott will do anything to sabotage Kourtney’s relationship, including showing up wherever Kourtney and Younes are hanging out together,” the source said. “He’s also been asking around, trying to get some dirt on Younes so he can bring it back to Kourt and persuade her to dump him.” It doesn’t seem Kourtney is too concerned about her ex after she recently made her romance with Younes Instagram official on a couple’s vacation to Paris.

If true, then we’ve officially reached a point where keeping up with the Kardashians is proving too much!

North Korea fired another missile over Japan. Here’s what we know

North Korea fired another missile over Japan early Friday, the second launch over Japan in recent weeks.

What happened?

The missile was fired eastwards from the capital Pyongyang, the South Korean military says. Japan initially warned its residents to take shelter. The missile appeared to fly over Hokkaido, according to government alerts, landing around 7:16 a.m. local time in the Pacific Ocean — a similar path to the missile fired by North Korea over Japan in late August.

Details were still being analyzed by the U.S. and South Korea, that country’s military said in a statement.

What kind of missile was launched?

In the August launch over Japan, North Korea blasted the Hwasong-12, “an intermediate-range ballistic missile technically capable of flying 3,000 miles.” It’s unclear what kind of missile was fired in this latest launch.

What provoked this test?

Friday’s launch is the latest attempt by North Korea to test the technology the country would need to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of hitting the United States.

On Sept. 3, North Korea launched its strongest test yet, deploying what U.S. military officials later characterized as a hydrogen bomb. (It was so powerful, the Washington Post pointed out, it “reshaped the mountain above it.”)

The test “[crossed] a key threshold in its weapons development efforts,” Reuters reported, and prompted the U.N. Security Council to pass a new round of sanctions against Kim Jong Un’s regime. The new sanctions limited North Korea’s oil supply and banned textile exports, among other restrictions.

Many believe these sanctions prompted Friday’s missile launch. North Korea’s ambassador to the U.N. said they would make the U.S. “suffer the greatest pain it has ever experienced in its history.” But others say the test would have happened with or without action from the U.N.

Tension between the U.S. and North Korea escalated in August after a new report indicated North Korea may have developed a miniaturized nuclear warhead. Trump said he would respond with “fire and fury” if threats escalated from North Korea. North Korea responded by threatening an attack on the U.S. territory of Guam; Trump tweeted the U.S. military was “locked and loaded.”

The State Department said it agreed with Trump’s strategy to pressure North Korea. But many world leaders said the harsh words were aggravating tensions — not easing them.

“I think escalating the rhetoric is the wrong answer,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the Associated Press at the time.

What’s next?

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump was briefed on the launch Thursday evening.

South Korea has called an emergency meeting of its security council, the Guardian reported.

The launch comes as the U.N. General Assembly prepares to meet next week for its annual summit in New York, where the group will discuss, among other issues, how to deal with the growing threats from Pyongyang.

The war between Uber and one of its major investors just got a new twist.

Two Uber stockholders are trying to prove that Benchmark Capital, the investor that pushed for the ouster of founder Travis Kalanick as CEO and is now suing him for fraud, leaked information about Uber before all that started in a bid to take control of the ride-hailing giant.

Lawyers for the two stockholders sent a letter to Uber’s board demanding to look at Uber’s books, Business Insider reported. The stockholders want to prove that Benchmark leaked information related to former Attorney General Eric Holder’s investigation into Uber’s corporate culture.  Read more…

Another Royal Retirement! The Queen’s Favorite Carriage Horse, Daniel, Hangs Up His Saddle

Prince Philip isn’t the only member of Queen Elizabeth‘s royal household who retired this week.

Her favorite carriage horse, Daniel, is also trotting off into the sunset following a fruitful career after 15 years of drawing Her Majesty’s carriages.

It was a fitting job for the white horse, as he’s pretty majestic-looking himself. A “Windsor Grey,” Daniel, is set to retire at 22 after his service in the Royal Mews.

As the Queen’s favorite, he’s been present at a number of official occasions, like the State Opening of Parliament, Trooping the Colour and the Garter Day procession. Daniel also was the lead horse on the carriage that carried Prince William and Princess Kate through the streets of London after their wedding at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen loves him so much that she had a life-sized bronze Daniel statue made in homage to the animal.

Now, Daniel is set to spend his days rolling around in the grass at a Home of Rest for horses.

“He’s a handsome boy — but he knows he’s a looker,” Jeanette Allen, CEO of the Horse Trust, the organization that runs Daniel’s future home. “You could see that from the way he carried the Duke and Duchess to their wedding. Greys normally love mud but it took him days to roll in a puddle after he arrived here. He’s very refined.”

Refined? No wonder he was the Queen’s favorite!

Pippa Middleton Stuns At Yet Another Wedding

Newlyweds Pippa Middleton and James Matthews are positively owning wedding season style.

The duo touched down in Europe to attend a friend’s nuptials in Sweden on Saturday after their epic honeymoon abroad. Pippa rocked a floor-length floral gown from Erdem and walked hand-in-hand with her new husband, who wore a tailored tuxedo and classic white bowtie.

Pippa really knows how to stand out at a wedding, as evidenced by her infamously poofy bridesmaid dress from the ‘90s (not to mention her other, more famous bridesmaid dress).

Since their own ceremony last month, Pippa and James have flaunted their fashion prowess in Sydney, Australia and also holed up on a private island, presumably working on their tans.

Clearly, this Middleton can rock any role at a wedding. We can’t wait for the next event!

Another Victory For ‘Wonder Woman’ As ‘The Mummy’ Gets Buried At The Box Office

“The Mummy” is no match for “Wonder Woman.”

During its first weekend in theaters, the Tom Cruise monster movie debuted at No. 2, earning a tepid $ 32 million in North American grosses. “Wonder Woman” retained the top spot, collecting an impressive $ 57.2 million.

That “Wonder Woman” figure is especially noteworthy because superhero flicks tend to see steep declines ― about 60 percent ― during their second weekend in theaters, once the most faithful fanboys and -girls have already scurried to the multiplexes. The first major comic-book adaptation directed by a woman, Patty Jenkins’ film fell by only 45 percent, the least of any modern superhero movie.

“Woman” has now accrued about $ 205 million domestically and another $ 230.2 from foreign markets.

This weekend’s tallies are as much a victory for “Wonder Woman” as they are a defeat for the critically derided “Mummy.” Other recent big-screen iterations of the character ― 1999’s “The Mummy” (starring Brendan Fraser), 2001’s “The Mummy Returns,” 2002’s “The Scorpion King” and 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” ― premiered to heftier sums.

Universal Pictures has a lot riding on this latest reboot, as it is meant to launch the Dark Universe, an expensive franchise that’s slated to span several movies. Stateside audiences were largely uninterested in the inaugural installment, putting the Dark Universe in a precarious position. That said, major studios often rely on international grosses to support tentpole releases nowadays, and this weekend’s $ 141.8 million in overseas revenue means Universal can, on some level, ignore domestic patrons’ ambivalence.

Holdovers “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” ($ 12.3 million), “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” ($ 10.7 million) and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” ($ 6.2 million) round out the Top 5.

Another winner: “It Comes at Night,” a low-budget horror film that trendy indie studio A24 released nationwide. The post-apocalyptic chiller collected $ 6 million, a decent total for a low-budget title costing $ 5 million.

“Baywatch” ($ 4.6 million), “Megan Leavey” ($ 3.8 million), “Alien: Covenant” ($ 1.8 million) and “Everything, Everything” ($ 1.6 million) complete the Top 10.

Melania Trump Snubs ANOTHER Of Donald’s Attempts To Hold Her Hand

It’s likely unintentional, but Melania Trump has yet again snubbed her husband, President Donald Trump, as he attempted to hold her hand on Tuesday.

The moment happened when FLOTUS and POTUS arrived in Rome for their first audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican. It’s the couple’s third stop in the administration’s first international tour; they were in Saudi Arabia over the weekend and Israel earlier this week.

While deplaning from their flight from Tel Aviv, Trump made a move to hold Melania’s hand. Melania ― who probably didn’t see her husband’s gesture ― swipes her hair behind her ear instead.

Trump then put his hand behind her back to hide the fumble:

This comes just a day after Melania swatted Trump’s hand away on the tarmac in Tel Aviv, which was first spotted by Twitter user @raggapegs:

We know Melania doesn’t mind holding hands because there are photographs of the two doing so during this same trip.

Last month, Trump was criticized for walking far ahead of his wife while departing Air Force One. Etiquette expert Elaine Swann told HuffPost that “the proper thing for him to do is to wait for his spouse at the bottom of the stairs and then take her hand and assist her down the last few steps as she comes down.”

So at least it seems that Trump is now making an effort ― fumbled or not. Maybe Melania simply prefers to keep to herself while deplaning.

Syrian White Helmets Members Can’t Attend Oscars Due to Trump’s Ban: ‘It’s Another Blow’

President Donald Trump’s travel ban is keeping two Syrians involved with the Oscar-nominated documentary The White Helmets from attending the ceremony.

Raed Saleh and Khaled Khateeb, members of the volunteer search-and-rescue organization known as the White Helmets, are affected by the executive order signed on Jan. 27 that indefinitely bars Syrians from entering the U.S. — making for a short-lived celebration for the team involved with the Netflix film, nominated for best short documentary.

“This was a really difficult film to make so when we found out about the Oscar nomination, we were all thrilled,” The White Helmets director Orlando von Einsiedel tells PEOPLE. “But that only lasted for about 36 hours until we heard about these travel bans. Very quickly the jubilation of the moment dissipated and we were really shocked about what’s happening.”

Signed just days after the Oscar nominations were announced, the executive order immediately threw into jeopardy plans for Saleh, the leader of the White Helmets, and Khateeb, a member who served as cinematographer on the film, to join von Einsiedel and producer Joanna Natasegara at the ceremony. But while the filmmakers were shocked at the turn of events, Natasegara tells PEOPLE that it was another tragically common blow for Khateeb, 21.

“He’s obviously very disappointed but what’s perhaps even more tragic is that for him, this is usual,” Natasegara says. “It’s indicative of the way Syrians — whether refugees or guests or guest speakers or White Helmets traveling to places — are treated with suspicion and disdain. So for him, he’s actually not anywhere near as shocked perhaps as the rest of us were, as the people that have risen up in the streets in protest. To him it’s another blow of how little the world really cares about Syrians.”

Natasegara says the filmmakers are still actively working to see whether Saleh and Khateeb can join them in Los Angeles for the ceremony.

Minutes after the nominees were announced — and hours before the ban was signed  Khateeb tweeted in jubilation about the nomination. “I’m so proud to have filmed this film and for this nomination,” wrote Khateeb, who joined the White Helmets at 16.

As Syria became increasingly dangerous for Western journalists, the European team behind the movie knew they wouldn’t be able to get the access they needed. So they turned to Khateeb — a young White Helmet who already had some experience.

“It was incredibly dangerous, impossible essentially, for any Western journalist to go in after what happened to journalists like James Foley,” Natasegara says, referring to the journalist who was captured and then beheaded by ISIS. “We got very lucky because Khaled is enormously talented and very brave and already had his still photography showcased. So he had that kind of innate talent at a very, very young age.”

The producer says Khateeb traveled to the Syrian border where the film team was set up and spent weeks working with their own cinematographer Franklin Dow to determine what they needed for the film. “When Khaled went back to continue his work as a White Helmet, he was then filming inside Syria in a way that Franklin could not,” she says.

Natasegara and von Einsiedel say they were inspired to make the movie after seeing the viral video of an infant being miraculously pulled out of rubble alive. When they found out about the team performing the rescue operations, von Einsiedel says they were drawn to the story and knew they had to make the film.

Nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2016, the White Helmets “are just ordinary Syrian civilians — bakers, tailors, builders — who all decided to risk their lives to save their fellow citizens and for us that was a story of hope,” von Einsiedel says. “The story of Syrian civilians, what’s happening to them and the fact that Syrian civilians are banding together to save themselves when the world turns its back on them — that’s an inspiring story and is one that we believe is important for people to know.”

“It’s one we wish Donald Trump would watch one day,” von Einsiedel adds.

The White Helmets is streaming on Netflix now.

My First Time Sleeping — And Falling In Love — With Another Woman

Sometimes, the path to falling in love takes a beautiful, wholly unexpected turn.

In the Glamour magazine video above, a woman named Lindsey discusses how she slowly fell in love with another woman, even though she never expected to be in a same-sex relationship

As Lindsey explains it, her game plan as an 18-year-old new college student was simple: Hook up with boys ― lots of them. The one thing she hadn’t planned for? Falling in love with her “chipper,” almost annoyingly nice roommate, a girl also named Lindsay.

“[We started] hooking up in secret, still totally convinced that we were both straight: we were just best friends, this is totally just what best friends did,” Lindsey says she told herself. “But long story short: We’re still roommates and best friends today ― we’re also in a relationship.”

Hear how the story unfolds in the video above.

Josh Hartnett Lost Out On Another Role Because He Passed On ‘Batman’

Josh Hartnett regrets passing on “Batman,” but not for the reason you may think.

Speaking to HuffPost Live on Wednesday, the actor explained that he’d met with Christopher Nolan while the director was casting for the 2005 installment, but he’d actually hoped to discuss his next film, “The Prestige,” instead.

“[‘Batman’] was not what I was interested in,” Hartnett recalled. “I really wanted to convince him that when he did the ‘The Prestige,’ maybe hire me.”

“And then, of course, as time went on, he ended up hiring the guy who he hired to play ‘Batman’ to play in ‘The Prestige,'” Hartnett continued, referring to Christian Bale.

The experience served as a teachable moment for the “Penny Dreadful” star.

“I realized much later that this is a relationship business,” said Hartnett, adding that he “regret[s] not forming a relationship with a great filmmaker [Christopher Nolan].”

“That was not necessarily where my head was at the time,” he concluded.

Bill Maher Makes Yet Another Joke About Bill Cosby

Bill Maher made yet another joke referencing the recent sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby.

On Friday night’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the host mentioned Cosby during a segment about Sarah Palin. While discussing the Republican voices who criticized a recent Palin speech, Maher said, “Sean Hannity asked, ‘Did the teleprompter go down?’ The Washington Examiner questioned whether she should be included in future Republican events. And Bill Cosby said, ‘I wouldn’t drug her with your drink.'”

The host has made jokes about the allegations against Cosby on numerous occasions, including during his monologue for the Nov. 14 episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher.” While discussing Obama’s then-new initiatives, he said: “If you’re a Republican, you see Obama as Bill Cosby sexually assaulting the Constitution.”

Maher also joked about the comedian on the Nov. 21 episode of the show. “It was a bad week for Bill Cosby,” Maher said. “On the plus side, he has lots of pills lying around that can make him forget the whole thing.”

“Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
