‘Bachelorette’ Recap: Becca Admits She Sympathizes With Arie

Becca Kufrin admitted during the Monday, July 9, episode of The Bachelorette that she sympathized with ex-fiancé Arie Luyendyk Jr. Plus, one man shocked Becca by revealing that he is a virgin.

Husband Material

Blake freaked out as he waited to get a one-on-one, but once he did receive the date card, his doubts calmed slightly. Becca was open with him about caring for more than one man at this point and shared that she related to Arie’s plight. “In a way, like, I do sympathize with Arie because I couldn’t understand how you could feel so strongly for multiple people,” she explained. “And I see just how difficult it probably was for him at the end.” Blake was hurt that Becca was feeling this way about other men, though.

After telling Becca about the affair that led to his parents’ divorce (his mother left his father for Blake’s high school basketball coach), he admitted that he was in love with the Bachelorette. Becca gushed to the cameras that she was in love with Blake too and she could 100 percent see him as her husband. “My heart just recognizes his,” Becca confessed after giving Blake a rose.

The 26-Year-Old Virgin

Colton revealed to Becca that he is a virgin during their one-on-one date. When Becca heard the news, her surprise was evident as she replied, “Really?” The Bachelorette even walked out on the pair’s dinner to digest the shock. (She later tweeted that she was just going to the bathroom.) Colton was nervous that this would be a dealbreaker for Becca, but she assured him she would never judge or think any less of him for his decision, although she was privately concerned that Colton hadn’t experienced very much life yet.

Colton told Becca he was not waiting for marriage, just “the right heart” – an interesting statement as his last girlfriend was gymnast Aly Raisman. Becca appreciated that Colton took sex so seriously, and she gave him a rose. Colton saw the bloom as a sign that Becca accepted him for who he is.

Swimming in the Dark

Garrett and Becca exchanged googly-eyes at each other throughout their one-on-one. Becca was slightly worried about just how happy go lucky Garrett always is and wanted to see more depth in their relationship, but she felt positive about their connection.

Garrett later opened up about his ex-wife and how he changed himself to make their marriage work. Becca believed she and Garrett had similar pasts with their exes. She was thrilled when he told her he was beginning to fall in love with her, so she was confident giving him a rose. The couple stripped off their fancy duds and shared a sexy night swim before the date came to a close.

Love Is Not All You Need

Becca only had one rose to hand out on her group date with Leo, Wills and Jason. She sent Leo home early during the date because she didn’t feel like they were at a place where she could meet his family.

While Jason held back, which troubled Becca, Wills told the Bachelorette he was falling more and more in love with her. However, Becca didn’t think she was on the same page as Wills, so she gave Jason the rose instead. Wills was so heartbroken he exited the car on his way home to cry.

The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.

The Bachelorette Recap: Becca Hopes That Love Will Find Her in the Bahamas

Things are getting really real on The Bachelorette because hometown dates are just around the corner. The men are now required to say things like, “It’s getting real, man” and “Meeting my family is a really big deal.” That’s right, we’ve reached the point in the show where the L-word is bandied about by the newly-serious men gnawing the spray tan stains off their fingernails and hoping they are vulnerable and open enough to get a rose and try to make up new things to be honest about so Becca rewards them with a rose.

Here’s what happened this week on The Bachelorette:

Drama Free Zone

The number one thing that Becca is looking forward to in the Bahamas is no drama. She wants a drama-free zone so much that she can’t even manage to say the obligatory, “I’m looking forward to falling in love in the Bahamas” because falling in love would be too much drama. Becca then makes a rookie mistake saying that she can’t wait to have a relaxing time and she just hopes that no one ruins it. If that’s not the ominous sound of foreshadowing.

Bahamian Viagra

Becca invites Colton out for The Bachelor franchise’s standard boat date: They wear revealing swimwear, flirtatiously splash in the water, make out in front of the cameras, and generally recreate the Jay-Z on a jet ski meme. Back at the hotel, the men have nothing better to do than sit around the hotel room laying bets on whether or not Colton is planning on telling Becca that he is a virgin on his one-on-one date or just keeping the secret until one of the men is forced to tell Becca in a quiet, but intense conversation. Despite the fact that the producers failed to set this date on the Virgin Islands, Colton is still considering telling Becca his truth. However, the moment he works up his nerve, a man appears and bullies them into diving for conch, and then eating the conch’s piston, which is a well-known aphrodisiac known as the Bahamian Viagra. Between jokes about Colton’s big conch, Colton finally manages to tell Becca his big secret. He tells her that sports is a big conch blocker and he was too busy playing football to have girlfriend and he is a virgin. Becca replies, “Really?” And then excuses herself for one second to (guessing!) go scream, “Really???” in the bathroom and wish that she could call a girlfriend and scream, “Really?????” There is, of course, no way that Becca would dump Colton for being a virgin, but the show needs drama so she has to make the big old football player sweat a little. She returns to the table, thanks him for being vulnerable and honest, and rewards him with a date rose.

What A Beach

Becca then invites noted Instagram fanatic Garrett for a nearly identical date to the one she went on with Colton, but with a sea plane instead of a boat and 100% fewer conch jokes. Becca and Garrett romp, frolic, flirt and recreate that one scene from From Here To Eternity while a cameraman zooms in on their hands touching PG-13 style. Becca admits that she is falling for Garrett, but also has questions for him, like his feelings about hateful Instagram memes? Instead she asks him about his ex-wife and his family. She pins the rose on him and Garrett tells the camera that he no longer sees Becca as his girlfriend but as his “potential wife.” Then they strip down to their swimsuits and go for a night swim as Becca claims she has never felt this way about anyone — not even Arie!

We Were On A Break!

Just as Becca is about to choose who will fill the vacancy in her heart, the reality show is interrupted by Donald Trump’s reality show-style announcement of who will fill the vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court. Brett Kavanaugh, will you accept this rose?

Horsing Around

Then Becca invites Blake on the exact same date that she went on with Colton and Garrett, but with 100% more Baha Men performing their hit, “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Becca has so much fun that she feels “like she is glowing from the inside out.” She and Blake make out on a beach, make out in the water, ride horses on the beach, and get vulnerable with each other, which is not euphemism. Blake tells her that the last week has been really tough for him mentally and Becca decides the best response to that is to tell him that she now sympathizes with Arie because she too likes a few people and understands why he brutally dumped her on live TV to take up with her runner up. Blake doesn’t look thrilled about hearing that his girlfriend loves multiple people, but hey buddy that’s what you signed up for. Over dinner, Blake tells Becca that his mom had affairs with his basketball coach and English teacher. After that confession, Becca definitely wants a hometown visit. She quickly gives him the date rose. To seal the deal, Blake tells her he loves her and Becca tells the camera that she is in love with him, but has to hold back for dramatic purposes.

Beach Bumming

To decide which of her remaining suitors will earn the last rose, Becca invites Wills, Jason, and Leo out on a three-on-one date. Then she makes them play beach volleyball for her love. Wills and Becca spend a lot of time kissing and talking about family. Jason, whose name I still have to read off the bottom of the screen, is very excited to introduce Becca to his family and they engage in some light canoodling. Leo and Becca have an honest talk and they both admit that they aren’t quite at the meet-the-family point in their relationship. As Becca rejoins Wills and Jason, Leo stands alone in the waves staring off into the middle distance. They leave him alone on the shore as they continue their date. At dinner, Wills tells Becca that she made him believe in love again, while Jason says that “the vibe they are forming” is like nothing he has ever felt before. Guess which one Becca chose? Wills tries not to cry on national television and almost manages it.

The excited dad posted a funny video on his Instagram Story on Sunday, November 12, as he accompanied his wife to the hospital. “Baby four, let’s get it,” he said as they walked into the hospital foyer. Can’t wait to meet you. We love you.”

In the adorable clip, the blonde beauty flaunted her pregnancy belly in a stylish blue maternity dress while holding hands with her little boy as the twosome enjoyed ice cream.

“Way too many tacos at lunch,” she joked of her pregnancy in the post. “Seriously though, as scared as I am to have 3 under 3, I’m so grateful God picked me to be the mommy to my kids and we can’t wait for number 4 to get here!”

The 31-year-old reality personality went on to reveal she had a medical emergency only weeks before her due date. “This pregnancy has been filled with lots of hot wings, ranch dressing, an emergency appendix surgery at 6 months, and swollen ankles all day every day but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

The ABC star concluded the intimate announcement by sharing her children’s excitement for their family’s newest addition: “My little tribe can’t wait to meet their new brother or sister (it’s a surprise!) in the next couple of weeks!”

Prior to sharing their exciting news, the I Said Yes author posted several adorable pictures of her family on Instagram. In June, the happy couple shared a snap from their Miami getaway.

“Went to Miami last week and this is the only pic we took. This is why all the pics I have framed in my house are from 5 years ago or taken by @allisonkuhnphotography,” she wrote of the moment.

And in August, Maynard posted an adorable pic of herself taking a walk with her little ones.

“When lunch is so good at you have to go buy new shirts after,” she joked at the time.

Maynard, who appeared on season 8 of The Bachelorette, got engaged to the automotive management consultant in 2013. The twosome tied the knot in June 2014 at Johnson’s family farm. Maynard was previously engaged to Nascar driver Ricky Hendrick who was killed in a plane crash in 2004. The star was also engaged to season 15 Bachelor star Brad Womack and season 8 Bachelorette winner Jeff Holm.

The Issue of Race Finally Explodes on ‘The Bachelorette’

Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay

In a clip that immediately started making news last week, The Bachelorette broke down in tears and said something black women all across the country could agree with: “you have no idea what it’s like being in this position.”

bachelorette Rachel Lindsay The Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay (Image: ABC)

If you’re not familiar with the world of first-impression roses, two-on-one dates, and fantasy suites, let me give you some background. Rachel Lindsay, a Dallas attorney, is the first black bachelorette in the 13-season history of the ABC series.

Before landing this historic gig, she was one of the final three women—and a fan favorite—on the previous season of The Bachelor with Nick Viall. The next season’s lead is usually picked from one of the previous runners-up, and the black contestants don’t usually get very far. After 21 seasons, we’re still waiting for the first black bachelor.

There are a number of think pieces about The Bachelor franchise, its lack of diversity, and its fraught relationship with race. And there are a lot of watchful eyes looking to see if Lindsay, and the most-diverse bunch of suitors ever, can change that.

You can count my two eyes among that bunch. I’ve been following both shows (and, yes, I’m ashamed to admit, Bachelor in Paradise—which had its own racially tinged scandal last week) for the last three years.

Like the rest of Bachelor Nation, I became a fast fan of Lindsay’s. I particularly appreciated how open she and Viall were, breaking the taboo in their conversations about race. I loved that on her hometown date she took him to a black church. And I wished all of America was watching when her family gently but firmly pushed back after Viall said he was colorblind with a reminder that though that may be true, the world is not, and that if he were to end up with their daughter he’d need to learn how to face that.

So for me it was a matter of when, not if, race would come up this season. And it didn’t take long. Just four weeks in, Lindsay was forced to acknowledge the pressure that comes with being the first black, or the only black, when there was a confrontation between two of her suitors and afterward the white man described the black man as “aggressive.”

I think her tears resonated with black women everywhere, who have often had to temper their emotions as they navigate the realities of constantly feeling judged as examples of their entire race and gender. How Lindsay ultimately deals is still to be seen—or, quite literally, to be continued—but it’s a conversation we’ll be having long after the final rose.

‘Bachelorette’ Rachel’s Contestant Bios, By The Numbers

Rachel Lindsay’s season of “The Bachelorette” has been tacitly cast as a new step toward diversity for the franchise. So how do her suitors stack up? Will she be meeting 31 clones, or men from all backgrounds?

The cast, at first glance, actually promises to offer a more varied one than usual ― more non-white men, fewer fitness trainers, and some real quirky options. Here’s a quick breakdown of Rachel’s dudes by the numbers:

Men of color: 14

Not bad!

Gelled pompadours: 12

They’re rocking those Jordan Rodgers haircuts.

V-neck T-shirts: 15

Sigh

Personal trainers: 1

Fewer than usual, actually!

ER doctors: 2

Keeping the mansion safe since 2017.

Lawyers: 2

Three, counting Rachel!

Tickle monsters: 1

We’re hoping this isn’t code for “molester.”

Whabooms: 1

Sure.

Fans of The Rock: 3

And every red-blooded straight woman in America.

Fans of Matthew McConaughey: 2

All right all right all right.

Haters of Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino: 2

What did he ever do to these dudes?

Dudes who admit to getting boners at work: 2

No shame, guys. No shame.

Guy who admits he’s not there for the right reasons: 1

In response to “What do you hope to get out of participating in this television show?” Milton shamelessly says: “Real answer? Discovered. Everyone tells me I’m made for TV/movies.”

With 31 men appearing on the season, there’s simply too much bio goodness to fully process at one read. Jamey says he doesn’t have any female friends (um, rude); Lucas, the whaboom, once had a threesome at a wedding; and Anthony is our Haruki Murakami-reading crush. We can’t wait to get this season started.

Inside Julianne Hough’s Star-Studded Bachelorette Party Weekend

Julianne Hough celebrated her last single days this weekend, partying in a tropical location along with two dozen of her closest friends for her beach-themed bachelorette party.

The 28-year-old Dancing with the Stars judge had a gaggle of friends by her side — including stars Nina Dobrev, Cindy Crawford, Kris Jenner, Aaron Paul‘s wife Lauren Paul, and mom Marriann Hough.

Together they shared the fun on social media, using a dozen or so hashtags on their posts. Some favorites? “#JulesBEACHelorette,” “#BitchinB4TheHitchin, “#HastaLaVistaHough,” “#TheFinalHoughrrah,” “#TheLastFlingB4TheRing,” “#BEACHeloretteWithMyBEACHES” and the dominant tag, “#WeDontLaichHimWeLoveHim.”

Along the way, there were plenty of group activities — including a trip to the gym, a trip to the beach, and (of course) dance.

“It’s so special to experience life… the special moments with my daughter,” mom Marriann wrote.

The festivities kicked off on Thursday, where the star’s best friend Dobrev took to her Instagram Stories to share plenty of envy-inducing snaps of the tropical getaway.

Up first? A casual 15 tequila shots — and a full lineup of delicious-looking cocktails.

“We’ve arrived,” wrote Dobrev, 28. “Let the game begins …”

Dobrev also shared a video of their idyllic waterfront setup, complete with an open-air living room, deck and pool.

And of course, there’s the woman of the hour herself, celebrating in a white bikini, veil and pink “Bachelorette” sash — drink in hand, of course.

The two BFFs also posted for selfies, with the bride-to-be flashing her stunning engagement ring.

And since girl’s just wanna have fun, Hough and Dobrev gave fans a little show when they danced in an Instagram video. “Beach please. These girls DEFINITELY know how to have fun. @nina,” Hough captioned the post, adding the hashtag: “#WeDontLAICHhimWeLoveHim.”

The girls enjoyed time on the beach and at the gym on Friday, posing for group photos throughout.

In the evening, they dressed in their best for a fancy dinner — followed by some fun dancing.

Most of Saturday was spent, as most morning are spent after a night of parting, recovering with coffee.

Last December, the Dancing with the Stars judge revealed to PEOPLE Now that Laich, 33, is hoping to show off his own dancing skills at the couple’s wedding.

“It’s so funny because he really wants to do a first dance,” she said. “I was like, ‘Of course, I’ll help you and teach you and we can do some stuff!’ “
