Marant must have heard our cries, adding model Vittoria Ceretti to star alongside Ewers for the Fall 2018 campaign (praise the fashion gods above). Welcoming back photographer Juergen Teller, the blonde and brunette twosome were photographed on location at the conceptual Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and styled by French Vogue‘s Geraldine Saglio.

Did the change in casting manage to impress our forum members, though? “Very simple and cool. It doesn’t look too Photoshopped. The models are cool, I like Anna and they look natural. I approve of this campaign,” shared Perickles upon checking out the images.

Renzo Rosso Teases Diesel Campaign About Hate

LOVE IT OR HATE IT: Diesel’s Renzo Rosso showed up at the Maison Margiela show on Wednesday wearing a T-shirt that said “Haute Couture” – only with the “u” crossed out so it read “Hate Couture.”
The slogan was a teaser for Diesel’s fall campaign, the label said in a statement provided exclusively to WWD. “Diesel’s Haute Couture will be a bold message towards haters worldwide — and an invitation for everyone to step up, face and own the negative messages we receive every day,” it said.
The campaign is a statement against today’s trolling culture, explained Rosso, whose OTB group owns Maison Margiela.
“Diesel is a brand that has always done something, provocative, crazy, with irony, and of course the irony today is to take away the ‘u’ and becoming ‘a’ and doing more to play with the ‘hate,’” he told WWD before the show.
“There’s so much hate on social, so many people want to say ‘bull****’ against the others, but today we take the opportunity of haute couture to rebalance with the hate,” he added.
The ads will be revealed on Sept. 1, Rosso said, promising: “This campaign will be a super magic atomic bomb, something incredible.”

David Bossie, a former deputy campaign manager for Donald Trump, told a Black Fox News guest he was out of his “cotton-picking mind” in the middle of a debate on rhetoric surrounding the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

Bossie hurled the phrase — bringing to mind the work of slaves in the old South — at Democratic strategist Joel Payne on “Fox & Friends” Sunday morning after the two spoke about former CIA director Michael Hayden sharing a photo of Auschwitz on Twitter.

“Michael Hayden posted a picture of Auschwitz,” Bossie said, to which Payne replied, “Yeah, that liberal Michael Hayden, that screaming liberal Michael Hayden.”

Bossie then responded, “Look, you’re out of your cotton-picking mind.”

Payne was quick to reply: “Cotton-picking mind? Brother, let me tell you something. I got some relatives who picked cotton. And I’m not going to allow you to attack me like that on TV.”

Bossie responded with an incredulous, “Attack you how?” and continued to declare Payne “out of (his) mind.”

Ed Henry, a Fox News host and the discussion’s moderator, issued a statement once the show returned from a commercial break and said that while he wasn’t sure what Bossie meant by the phrase, it “clearly offended” Payne and others.

“I want to make sure that Fox News and this show, myself, we don’t agree with that particular phrase,” he said. “It was obviously offensive and these debates get fiery, that’s unfortunate. We like to have honest and spirited debates, but not phrases like that, obviously. And so I will just leave it at that.”

The Italian fashion label brought on photographer Steven Meisel for the Spring 2017 campaign, Tim Walker for Fall 2017 and Mario Sorrenti for Spring 2018. This season, it’s David Sims capturing the brand’s Fall 2018 campaign in his London studio with Vogue Paris fashion director Aleksandra Woroniecka on styling duties (replacing Carine Roitfeld). A Chinese State Bank Offered Dinner With Trump for $150,000. The Trump Campaign Was Not Amused

China’s second-largest state-owned bank offered wealthy clients the opportunity to have dinner with the American president for $ 150,000 a ticket, spurring a complaint from Donald Trump’s re-election campaign to the U.S. Department of Justice.

A branch of China Construction Bank Corp. invited high-net-worth clients willing to pay the ticket price to a May 31 dinner in Dallas, according to an invitation seen by Bloomberg News and confirmed with bank staff. Chinese participants would have the opportunity to communicate with U.S. “tycoons,” take photos with Trump and get his autograph, according to the invitation.

While Trump was expected to host a $ 50,000-a-head fund-raising dinner with the Republican National Committee in Dallas that night, it’s illegal for U.S. political campaigns to accept donations from foreign nationals or from corporations. That means only the Chinese bank’s customers with U.S. passports would be eligible to attend.

Officials with Trump’s campaign and the RNC said they had no knowledge of the Chinese bank’s advertisement before Bloomberg News asked about it. The campaign alerted U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ office about the solicitation, said a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified discussing a potential law enforcement matter.

Employees Marketed

China Construction Bank’s Shenzhen branch said organizers in China promoted the event to the branch and then some employees marketed it, adding that the outlet itself wasn’t involved. The bank will strengthen internal management and marketing oversight, it said in an emailed statement.

The bank earlier forwarded a statement from VVISA, a Shanghai-based travel agency, which said it assisted with other groups that initiated the offers to participate in the event.

The invitations were circulating in China even as Trump met with President Xi Jinping’s top economic envoy to discuss a resolution to the ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies. Some version of the solicitations included references to signs of progress in negotiations and ZTE Corp., the sanctioned Chinese telecommunications equipment maker promised a personal reprieve by Trump earlier this week.

Trade Frictions

As Sino-U.S. trade frictions have eased recently, Chinese businessmen including representatives from ZTE were invited to Dallas to attend President Trump’s dinner, and thus discuss cooperation and development with U.S. political and business elites,” the invitation said. The Shenzhen branch later reissued the invitation Thursday to remove references to trade friction and ZTE.

Notably, the tickets advertised by the Chinese flier were three times more expensive than those selling to U.S. donors for Trump’s Dallas event. The fund-raiser was previously reported by the Dallas Morning News, which obtained U.S. invitations to the event.

“We do not accept foreign donations of any kind,” a Trump campaign official said in a statement, declining to be identified by name. “Since it has been brought to our attention, we have notified the appropriate authority about this unauthorized flier.”

Client Treat

Construction Bank’s solicitation was confirmed by two people at the bank who said the dinner was a treat for private banking clients of the Shenzhen branch, and that they’ve already received some queries from private and state businessmen. The deadline for the registration is May 25 and applicants must hold U.S. visas and go through a background screening process to show they don’t have U.S. criminal records.

The Shenzhen branch acquired the tickets from VVISA, according to a person familiar with the matter. Both the bank and the travel agency earn commissions from the sales, said the person, who asked not to be named discussing internal bank business.

VVISA said the invitations were initiated by a U.S. foundation and a Chinese entrepreneurs group and assisted by VVISA, with no relation to Construction Bank. The event is still proceeding and VVISA is cooperating with many institutions, it said in the statement, adding that participants are paying on their own.

Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Melania Trump’s ‘Be Best’ Campaign

After 16 months, first lady Melania Trump finally unveiled her official platform at the White House’s Rose Garden on Monday.

Titled “Be Best,” the first lady’s program will focus on three key problem areas: cyberbullying, well-being, and combating opioid abuse. “As a mother and as first lady, it concerns me that in today’s fast-paced and ever-connected world, children can be less prepared to express or manage their emotions and oftentimes turn to forms of destructive or addictive behavior such as bullying, drug addiction, or even suicide,” she said.

Many saw irony in the first lady’s cyberbullying initiative, given how her husband, President Donald Trump, is one of the more prolific cyberbullies around. If that weren’t enough, the platform’s slogan, “Be Best,” sounded very similar to former first lady Michelle Obama and Oprah’s slogan for men to “Be Better.” (Melania, of course, has a history of lifting ideas from Michelle.)

Senate Banking Chair Mike Crapo Set Up Campaign Shop in Scott Pruitt’s Lobbyist Pad

The townhouse that served as a cut-rate rental pad for EPA administrator Scott Pruitt doubled as a veritable campaign headquarters for one of the most powerful chairman in the U.S. Senate.

Over the course of four years, Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) held 78 campaign-related events at 223 C Street N.E., according to a new filing with the Federal Election Commission. The condo, which is where Pruitt stayed while getting his bearings in Washington D.C., is owned by Vicki Hart, a prominent lobbyist with clients who had business before committees on which Crapo serves. Her husband, Stephen Hart, the now-ex chairman of the firm Williams & Jensen, had his own set of clients before a separate committee that Crapo chairs.

Crapo’s campaign said in a statement to The Daily Beast that they had reimbursed Hart for use of the townhouse in order to be in complete compliance with election law. And it stressed that, unlike Pruitt, the townhouse was never used for boarding purposes.

R. Kelly Apologizes to Fans Amid #MuteRKelly Campaign: ‘I’ve Never Heard of a Show Being Canceled Because of Rumors’ [Video]

R. Kelly’s scheduled performance in Chicago on May 5 for the UIC Pavilion’s Pre-Mother’s Day Love Jam has been cancelled — thanks in part to the #MuteRKelly campaign.

On Sunday, R. Kelly took to social media to apologize to his fans for the cancellation.

“First of all, I want to apologize to all of my fans in Chicago, and basically all around the world wherever I’m performing at and they canceled me,” he said. “I don’t know why they canceled the show. I never heard of a show being canceled because of rumors, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. So I apologize to you guys and in the meantime, I’m going to try to get to the bottom line of it, you know, as far as my lawyers are concerned, and see exactly what happened and why I was canceled.”

The May 5 show would’ve been his first in Chicago since the ‘sex cult’ allegations were published last July.

A petition signed by 1,300 students at the University of Illinois in Chicago called for the cancellation of R. Kelly’s concert on May 5, citing “overwhelming public evidence of [Kelly’s] history of sexual misconduct.” The letter, co-written by Natalie Bennett of the Women’s Leadership and Resource Center at UIC, was to be sent to UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis upon reaching 1,500 signatures.

With Time’s Up joining the #MuteRKelly campaign, we expect several (if not all) of R. Kelly’s shows to be cancelled in the coming weeks.

Saint Laurent Taps Kaia Gerber for Fall Campaign

POCKET VENUS: Saint Laurent has tapped model-of-the-moment Kaia Gerber to feature in its fall ads.
The French fashion house on Thursday released four black-and-white images and a video, which show the 16-year-old daughter of Cindy Crawford looking sultry in a deeply unbuttoned black blouse and a cream Mongolian fur coat, against the backdrop of The Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs.”
In only her second season on the catwalk, Gerber ruled the Saint Laurent runway in February, appearing in three looks, including a black mini dress with a sculptural asymmetric ruffle and a floral embroidered dress with a ruched skirt.
This was the second batch of images linked to creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s fall campaign. The first, released last month only two weeks after the show, featured longtime Saint Laurent muse Betty Catroux shot by David Sims, in what was billed as her first advertising campaign.
Saint Laurent previously tapped for its spring campaign an eclectic cast of characters, which featured Kate Moss, Zoë Kravitz, Vincent Gallo and Laetitia Casta.

US, UK Accuse Russia-Backed Attackers of Hacking Routers in Espionage Campaign

The U.S. and the U.K. say that Russian state-sponsored hackers have been exploiting a software vulnerability found in thousands of routers around the world in order to break into networks and steal data.

The alert, issued jointly by the U.K.’s National Cyber Security Centre and the U.S. FBI and Department of Homeland Security, warns that “cyber actors supported by the Russian government” broke into large numbers of routers and switches and used “compromised routers to conduct spoofing ‘man-in-the-middle’ attacks to support espionage, extract intellectual property, maintain persistent access to victim networks and potentially lay a foundation for future offensive operations.” The hacks were reportedly intended to “enable espionage and intellectual property that supports the Russian Federation’s national security and economic goals.”

The Department of Homeland Security says that the U.S. first received information from private companies and critical infrastructure partners about Russian exploitation of routers as early 2015. Those targeted by the campaign “are primarily government and private-sector organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and the Internet service providers.”

Sperry Unveils New Campaign to Ignite Growth

Sperry is looking to widen its audience and rope in a new generation of consumers.
The Top-Sider specialist brand has launched a campaign titled “Preppy for All,” aimed at talking up the preppy lifestyle and how it applies across various cultures and demographics.
The campaign will play out digitally as well as in print form. Sperry president Thomas Kennedy noted that Sperry sales had softened slightly in 2017, and the company sees this campaign as a maneuver to jump-start growth.
Kennedy said that the campaign is particularly geared at consumers between the ages of 17 and 30.
“Our goal is to be inclusive. When we did a lot of focus groups on the brand, we found the core attributes around being preppy were being active in the community and extroverted and activity-based, so when we conceptualized the campaign we looked at this to consider how we can be more relevant to the consumer today,” said the executive.
The idea is to continue Sperry’s role as a lifelong staple for consumers. “When I look at Sperry, most people have their first pair because their parents bought it for them and then we are re-engaging the consumer as a self-purchaser in their 20s,” Kennedy said.

Stacey Dash Quits Congressional Campaign

Stacey Dash  announced that she’s given up her run for Congress.

Just weeks after she revealed her aspirations to become a U.S. congresswoman, the actress has changed her mind.

“After much prayer, introspection and discussions with my family, I am withdrawing my candidacy for California’s 44th Congressional District,” Stacey said in an email to CNN.

The former Fox News commentator explained that she began her congressional bid with the best of intentions.

“I started this run with the intention to address the pressing issues in the district where I live,” she added “I hoped, and remain hopeful, that I can assist people living here on the national level. My goal was, and remains, to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten for decades by the Democratic Party.”

Stacy was running to represent an area of California that includes cities like Compton, Watts, San Pedro, and North Long Beach. These areas have always leaned democratic. They have a long history of voting in democratic in congressional elections (they’re currently represented by Nannette Barragán), and 83% of the population there voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

However, Stacey has been a very vocal conservative republican, so we can’t imagine who would have voted for the Clueless star in California’s 44th district. It’s not exactly her base.

Stacey said that she’s choosing to lay down her campaign to focus on her family.

Karen Walker Taps MMA Fighter for Men’s Campaign

Karen Walker is no stranger to choosing non-typical subjects for her campaigns — she’s highlighted everyone from Toast the Dog, a social media influencer, to Phyllis Sue, a dancer in her 90s. For her second men’s eyewear collection, titled Monumental, she’s tapped Israel Adesanya, a Nigerian-born, New Zealand-trained fighter to appear in the campaign.
“He’s an interesting man,” said Walker. “He’s an MMA fighter who started as a dancer and has a very modern take on masculinity. His nickname, ‘The Last Style Bender,’ captures his subversion and reinvention of his craft and that’s a place where we love to work as well — reinventing classics and throwing together opposites.”
Adesanya has been fighting since 2008 but made his UFC debut earlier this year. In the campaign, the 28-year-old is featured with a bloom behind his ear and a big smile. Walker said she wanted to depict a more multifaceted take on masculinity.
This is Walker’s second men’s collection, which has since been picked up by Kith, The Standard Hotel Shops, the Trade Public Hotel and Lapstone & Hammer.

Amy Deanna is making some serious history.

The Texas-native has become the first model with the skin condition vitiligo to be featured in a CoverGirl campaign. In the #IAmWhatIMakeup series, Amy conveys that for her, using foundation isn’t about masking herself from the world, but letting her unique beauty come through.

She recently told PEOPLE how proud she is to be able to speak out her skin condition in such a huge way.

“Vitiligo awareness is something that is very important to me. Being given a platform to do so means so much,” Amy stressed.

“At the end of the day I am just like everyone else, I just happen to have spots. It’s a part of my identity, but it doesn’t define who I am.”

The model also said she finds it heartbreaking knowing that so many people who have vitiligo don’t feel represented by most of the beauty ads.

“For there to be so many of us and so little representation, it’s truly disheartening,” she went on. ‘I work with CoverGirl; I’m a bBack woman; I have vitiligo. That is empowering.”

That, and Amy is excited to represent a change in what we regard as beautiful in society.

The fashion and beauty industry sometimes feels like a private party that only a select few get invited to. It’s very you can’t sit with us.’ To me, that is not progressive. We have to be more inclusive,” she explains.

“Diversity is important. Representation is important. Inclusivity is important—not just for people of different backgrounds and ethnicities, but also people of all sizes. That’s why I was so excited to partner with CoverGirl on this project. Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. Let’s face it, together we are a mosaic—that in itself is beautiful. We should celebrate that.”

Paul Smith Marks New Direction With Spring Campaign

STARTING AFRESH: Sir Paul Smith is marking the start of a new era at his label with a spring campaign that aims to channel the designer’s trademark irreverence.
Featuring Polish model Malgosia Bela and Ben Allen, the campaign takes its inspiration from the neon signs and the sandy beaches of the South of France. Black-and-white images of the sea provide the backdrop for bright colors and prints, including Hawaiian shirts and a tuna motif inspired by Smith’s many visits to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.
“Bright color and confident use of print are two things that lots of people know and love Paul Smith for,” said the designer. “This felt particularly true in my spring 2018 collection, where the ocean-inspired print was so prominent in many of my designs for both men and women. For the campaign it felt right to bring the brightness and optimism to the fore. It feels like we all need a bit of color right now.”
Smith has returned to the creative helm of his newly restructured company and said it was important to launch a campaign that telegraphs the brand’s message.

WHAT: The Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter is announcing the launch of a movement in San Diego. With the launch of the Plastic Straws Campaign, Surfrider Foundation’s Rise Above Plastics & Ocean Friendly Restaurants program are moving towards the City of San Diego to pass an ordinance mandating “straws by request only” and eventually a “plastic straw ban” in service establishments. An initiative led by Europa Nostra has shortlisted at-risk cultural landmarks and aims protect seven of the most endangered

An aerial cableway in Georgia, a modernist monument in Bulgaria and an ice factory in Grimsby, are among 12 heritage sites that have been shortlisted by a campaign that is highlighting Europe’s most at-risk cultural monuments.

Heritage federation Europa Nostra, which works with Unesco and the EU, lobbies to protect cultural and natural heritage across the continent and represents national and local heritage groups. The shortlist is part of its 7 Most Endangered initiative that will lead to monuments receiving exposure, as well as guidance from Europa Nostra experts about preservation.

This Extreme Ballot Measure Campaign Shows The True Intentions of the Anti-Abortion Movement

In the state of California—at roughly the same time lawmakers are voting on a bill that could make abortion accessible on college campuses—anti-abortion activists are working to put a sweeping measure on the November 2018 ballot classifying all abortions, without exception, as first-degree murder. The far-reaching law would also ban certain types of birth control, medical research and in-vitro fertilization—and criminalize not only women, but medical professionals and researchers.

It’s highly unlikely the measure will make it to the ballot—and even if it did, and managed to win a majority of voter support, such a ban would undeniably violate the Constitution and the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade. The dystopic policy, however, shows that anti-abortion groups and individuals have long been laying a framework for total and complete abortion bans in the U.S.

At a time when the Vice-President has said Roe belongs “on the ash heaps” of history and the President once advocated for “punishing” women who have abortions, seemingly less dramatic anti-abortion measures are already being put into place across the country at record levels. 25 percent of all restrictions on abortion since Roe were enacted between 2011 and 2016. Some states have tried to decimate abortion access not by making the procedure illegal, but by building so many barriers around it that it’s inaccessible; TRAP laws regulating clinics into extinction have popped up across the country, inspired by the now-struck-down HB2, an omnibus anti-abortion bill that shuttered over half of Texas’ clinics. In other states, most recently Ohio and Arkansas, lawmakers have attempted implement bans on abortion at different stages and under varying circumstances, justifying them with convoluted and inaccurate claims that they are trying to “protect women.” At the national level, such bans are also bandied about in Congress.

It’s well-noted by researchers that restrictions on abortion don’t stop it from happening—and only burden, shame and endanger women who will likely go on to have the procedure anyway. (That the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate in the industrialized world, with higher rates in states with more restrictions on abortion, speaks for itself about the consequences of limited abortion access on women’s health.) There’s little reason to believe that an outright abortion ban would have different implications—which is why, however slated for failure California’s potential ballot measure ultimately is, it serves as a stark reminder of how tenuous abortion rights remain.

An all-out abortion ban is the ultimate intent and end-game of the anti-abortion movement. Half-attempts and deceitful regulations are just fluff and showmanship meant to disguise and hide it.

But while anti-abortion forces in the U.S. remain determined to attack women’s rights, activists are just as determined to fight back—and they stand on the side of most Americans. “The majority of Americans stand on the side of abortion access, and seven in 10 Americans believe abortion should remain legal and accessible,” NARAL Pro-Choice America Senior Vice President Sasha Bruce reminded Congressional lawmakers just last year. “That’s not just a majority, that’s consensus, and we will keep mobilizing and organizing to ensure that all women can make decisions about their lives, bodies, and futures.”

The New Gucci Campaign Is Everything Fashion Dreams Are Made Of

Leave it up to Alessandro Michele to push the boundaries (once again) as Gucci unveils its spectacular new advertising campaign for Spring 2018. Making a disappearing act is photographer Glen Luchford who has captured Michele’s flamboyant aesthetic since day one, as the work of surreal Spanish artist and illustrator Ignasi Monreal takes center stage this season. Monreal produced Gucci’s ‘Gift Giving’ campaign and now cements his relationship with the legendary Italian fashion house with yet another campaign. Titled Utopian Fantasy, the images are based on some of the most iconic fairytales and feature multiple hidden references.

Our forum members immediately noticed the overt use of retouching in the photos. “Looks good for Blumarine, but the Photoshop on her is too literal. She doesn’t look like herself here. Granted Liugi & Iango often retouch a young girl like Anna Cleveland to hell and back, this still looks eerie,” voiced Benn98 the moment the campaign came to light.

“People need to stop hiring Luigi & Iango and just hire graphic designers. At least a designer might create more realistic looking people,” commented lelaid.

Parliament Square’s first statue of a woman

The first-ever (!) monument of a woman to stand within the central London location will be unveiled next year. Following Caroline Criado-Perez’s successful campaign – whose efforts also saw Jane Austen appear on the new £10 notes –  a statue of suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett (created by Turner Prize-wining artist Gillian Wearing) will be able to call Parliament Square home from next year.

Women’s art is coming to the London Underground

Art on the Underground, Transport for London’s public art programme, has commissioned a year-long programme of works from an international selection of exclusively women artists to mark the momentous year. There are almost six million journeys on the London Underground each day and women artists are being brought to the forefront of Art on the Underground, which Khan calls ‘probably the world’s biggest public art gallery.’

Recent data from the Office of National Statistics showed that in 20 years, the gender pay gap has gone down by only half a percent. In the words of Sadiq Khan: ‘There’s no excuse for there to be a gender pay gap’. Following their first ever gender pay audit, City Hall is implementing plans to reduce the gender pay gap, with initiatives such as training senior managers to ensure recruitment processes are as fair as possible, offering mentoring and increasing the availability of part-time and flexible working options.

Gender equality is not just for girls. Sadiq Khan said, ‘I passionately believe this can’t just be a fight for girls and women, it’s got to be all of us that join the fight.’ He went on, ‘We need to have more boys and men getting it and understanding why it’s important. Not just because they happen to be the fathers of daughters or because they’ve got sisters they care about, because we’re going to benefit as a society if woman have gender equality.’

We learnt who Sadiq Khan thinks is London’s greatest woman: his mum. He told us, ‘She raised eight children, seven boys and a girl, twenty-three grandchildren and in our family, we did the hoovering, the cooking, the ironing – there was no issue about gender stereotypes and she’s still going strong. She’s the matriarch of the family.’

He went on to talk about his other choice, Doreen Lawrence (campaigner and mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence). ‘In my lifetime, I’ve seen a Londoner, who’s a woman, change the narrative around ethnicity, change the law, be a formidable fighter for this issue and she’s still working really hard at the House of Lords.’

Report: FBI Warned Trump Russians May Infiltrate His Campaign in 2016

FBI officials warned Donald Trump that Russians might try to infiltrate his presidential campaign shortly after he became the Republican nominee last year, NBC News reports, citing government officials. Both Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton were given a high-level counterintelligence briefing by top FBI officials, who told them foreign adversaries, including Russia, were likely to spy on and try to influence their campaigns, according to the report. They were both advised to notify the FBI about any suspicious proposals to their campaigns. Trump was reportedly “briefed and warned” about threats from Russia in particular. At the time of the briefing, the FBI was already aware of contacts between Trump’s campaign and Russia, and at least seven Trump campaign officials had communicated with Russians or figures linked to Russia—though these interactions were apparently not reported to the FBI.

Report: Russian Social-Media Exec Sought to Help Trump Campaign

An executive at Russian social-media giant Vkontakte reached out to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 with an offer to launch a page to win Trump support among Russian Americans and Russians, The Washington Post reports. Konstantin Sidorkov, VK’s director of partnership marketing, told Donald Trump Jr. and social-media director Dan Scavino that Trump’s presence on the platform would be “top news in Russia” in an email sent days before the November 2016 election, according to the report. The overture was reportedly brokered by none other than British music promoter Rob Goldstone, who had also asked Trump Jr. to meet with a Kremlin-connected lawyer ahead of the presidential election. Trump Jr. said he could not recall VK’s offer ever receiving further discussion after he first forwarded the pitch to Scavino, according to the report. Scavino had initially responded enthusiastically, but it wasn’t clear from the emails whether Trump’s campaign ever followed up. “Please feel free to send me whatever you have,” Scavino wrote to Goldstone after the suggestion was first made in January 2016. “Thank you so much for looking out for Mr. Trump and his presidential campaign,” he was quoted as saying.

Guess Taps Jennifer Lopez for Spring Campaign

NEW FACE: Looks like Jennifer Lopez’s next act will be appearing as the new face of Guess Inc. in its upcoming campaign.
The multihyphenate is set to appear in the Los Angeles denim firm’s spring 2018 campaign, photographed by Tatiana Gerusova and art directed by Guess cofounder Paul Marciano. This marks the first time Lopez and the company will be working together.
Lopez’s music video premiere earlier this month for her single “Amor, Amor, Amor” could have perhaps been a clue of her upcoming work with Guess. She sported a crop top from the company as one of her looks in the video.
The aesthetic of the campaign is Hollywood meets Las Vegas glitz, the latter being a nod to Lopez’s residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Vegas for her concert “Jennifer Lopez: All I Have,” which capped last December.
Lopez, in a statement, referenced her affinity for the brand starting from a young age.

Benetton Taps Oliviero Toscani for New Communication Campaign

THE A-TEAM: Benetton is once again teaming with Oliviero Toscani on a communication campaign that is expected to bow on Dec. 1. The Italian fashion company is thus renewing a collaboration with the photographer that made history in the Eighties and Nineties for its controversial photos and campaigns that shines a light on issues such as the death penalty, AIDS, racism and homosexuality. His explicit and transgressive campaigns for United Colors of Benetton included images of a sensual kiss between a priest and a nun or a black horse mounting a white one, for example.
While Luciano Benetton no longer has an operative role within the family-owned company, it is understood he has played a significant part in reigniting the collaboration with Toscani, posting on Facebook a photo of himself and the photographer with the caption, “I think it is the right time to start having fun.” The group has been revamping its operations, cleaning up its network of stores, refurbishing and streamlining it and refocusing its product offer in a bid to further develop the United Colors of Benetton brand.

‘Star Wars Battlefront II’ Producer Reveals the Pillars of Singleplayer Campaign

Star Wars Battlefront II is a herculean, three-studio effort from EA to not repeat the mistakes of the first game. There’s a singleplayer campaign now. Multiplayer actually has objectives. And the microtransacitons are… Well. Two steps forward, one step back?

We sat down with Motive Studios producer David Robillard, who went through the “pillars” of the Battlefront II experience. They are quite simply the ability to play as:

  • Troopers
  • Vehicles
  • Heroes

Three different studios have come together to make that possible. DICE, best known for the Battlefield series, has done the multiplayer. Criterion, modern warden of the Need for Speed franchise, has done the vehicle sections. Motive Studios is behind the singleplayer campaign.

There are rare departures from those pillars. One of the first missions (and consequently, one of the things you’ll see most of on the internet pre-release) involves controlling a tactical droid. Robillard was very clear that this is a “one-off.”

So you can expect almost all gameplay to fit into those three categories: Either controlling a trooper, or a ship, or a hero.

From our brief time with the game, controlling a trooper was still every bit a power fantasy as controlling a force-user. As he mentions, you’re Iden Versio of Inferno Squad. The weapons and abilities at your disposal will see you mowing down rebel scum as if it’s easy.

Criterion handled the vehicles for both the multiplayer and singleplayer portions of the game. While the walkers will still have been Motive Studios, the space battle sequences or atmospheric aerial dogfights will have been Criterion.

Robillard mentions one of the things he’s proudest of is how they were able to transition between on-foot combat and aerial vehicle battles seamlessly. It’s the type of thing no one notices, but it’s actually quite nice.

Right at the end Robillard talks about how playing either singleplayer or multiplayer will prepare you for the other, and we can confirm that the singleplayer campaign will allow you to collect and craft things you can use for Star Cards in multiplayer.

As we saw from the multiplayer beta, those Star Cards are a big deal, with bonuses like “+30% Health.” It’s nothing to sneeze at — even if the implementation of such bonuses isn’t the best.

Eva Longoria, Robert De Niro and Many More Celebs Join Campaign for Mexico Earthquake Relief

Among the devastating natural disasters that have struck several countries around the world in the previous weeks, the powerful 7.1 earthquake that hit Mexico was one of the most destructive in the country’s history. The earthquake toppled hundreds of buildings, destroyed streets and killed more than 200 people including 21 schoolchildren.

As the Mexican cities affected by the earthquake rebuild from the devastation, director Alfonso Cuarón—the man behind Gravity and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban—hasn’t forgotten about his home country. With the help of his celebrity friends like Eva Longoria, Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Watts and Robert De Niro among others, Cuarón has announced an initiative titled “Mexico Rises” to help raise funds for Mexico.

“The devastating earthquakes in Mexico have elicited a deeply moving response from the Mexican people. In the history of our community, we have never been so informed, united and connected as we are right now,” said the director. “Citizens have taken this matter into their own hands and have selflessly and tirelessly worked together to come to the aid of their neighbors. Following their inspiring lead, I’m compelled to take action and join them to help begin the reconstruction of our beautiful country as it starts to recover from these tragic events.”

The video for the multi-platform campaign starts with a few clips of when the earthquake struck then goes into celebrities sending moving messages in support of Mexico then asking viewers to visit the donation page.

Black Female-Led Startup Jetpack Takes off With Equity Crowdfunding Campaign

Providing consumer products to customers anytime they need, Jetpack is a “last mile,” on-demand service with delivery times often less than 15 minutes.

Jetpack is one of several black-owned companies currently running equity crowdfunding campaigns. Equity crowdfunding allows anyone to invest as little as $ 50 in early-stage companies, a privilege previously reserved for wealthy, “accredited investors.”

Goldman Sachs estimates that equity crowdfunding has the potential to be a $ 1.2 trillion industry. For diverse founders, equity crowdfunding can be a game changer for companies seeking investment. Moreover, it’s a wealth-building opportunity for investors previously restricted from investing in startups.

Brandon Andrews sat down with Jetpack founder and CEO Fatima Dicko to discuss her business and the new opportunity presented by equity crowdfunding.

 

Brandon Andrews: Tell us about Jetpack. How did you develop the concept, and what problem does it solve for customers?   

Fatima Dicko:  Jetpack is a peer-to-peer delivery platform that brings you the products you need in less than 15 minutes. There are a lot of moments when college students need certain products right away and stores are either too far and/or closed, or students just don’t have the time or energy to travel. Traditional delivery platforms take too long because students and professionals are located in buildings or on campuses not easily accessible to the public. Whether a student is studying in the library and needs an energy boost or in between classes and forgot a charger, having the right product right away can change the entire day.

I started noticing that students on Stanford’s campus were using email listservs to blast people within their dorm for products they either forgot or didn’t have and needed right away.  That paved the way to our solution: Jetpack! We pre-stock students with the most important items inside cool backpacks, and then we use technology to connect people who need things with the student Jetpackers who have them. We pay Jetpackers to distribute the products.

Andrews: How is equity crowdfunding helping Jetpack take off? Why was this the right funding opportunity for your business?

Dicko: Equity crowdfunding is helping Jetpack take off (promise there’s no pun intended) by allowing people who would actually use the product to invest in our company. Prior to new laws and regulations passed by the Obama administration and the SEC, only accredited investors could invest in startups. In the United States, to be considered an accredited investor, one must have a net worth of at least $ 1 million (excluding the value of one’s primary residence) or have an income of at least $ 200,000 each year for the last two years. With new regulations, now everyone can invest in privately held companies through equity crowdfunding.

Equity crowdfunding can be really transformative for businesses where the target consumer is likely outside the definition of an accredited investor. So, for us, it was important that we find a way to gain financial support from consumers actually interacting with our product-college students.

 

Andrews: What should entrepreneurs consider before raising money through equity crowdfunding?

Dicko: While there are many benefits to equity crowdfunding, there are also a lot of things to consider beforehand. First, it’s important to note that in order to raise money, you’ll have to verify your financials on the [equity crowdfunding] platform. This [financial] information will be available to anyone who would like to see it. If you aren’t interested in sharing the financial history of your company with the public, equity crowdfunding probably wouldn’t be best. Similarly, if there are proprietary elements of your business you haven’t yet protected, you probably wouldn’t be too interested in launching a public campaign.

Finally, there’s also a time commitment required to manage the campaign. When launching an equity crowdfunding campaign, it’s important that the company can afford to manage it. I recommend considering whether or not your company is in a phase where the team can allocate time and energy to raise capital through a campaign without sacrificing the growth of the business.

There’s always an inflection point where the momentum is steady. That inflection point happens at different times. Prior to reaching that, we spent one to two hours a day answering questions and running the campaign.

 

Andrews: You are currently running an equity crowdfunding campaign on Republic. How did you prepare your business for the campaign? 

Dicko: We had to make sure we put together material that would fully articulate the potential of our business to the everyday person within one to two minutes of visiting our campaign page. Although we understand the ins and outs of our business, we had to take a step back and remember that everyone else may not. This involved creating a short video, powerful visuals, and important metrics that potential investors can understand. It’s really important to invest a lot of time during this phase so that you can focus on managing the campaign once it’s launched.

The equity crowdfunding platform we chose-Republic-offered to help with creating the collateral for our campaign, but I wanted to manage the design process. This took additional time, but was worth it.

Andrews: How have you successfully maintained momentum during your campaign? How much work does maintaining the campaign require?  

Dicko: I wish I could say we just watched the money flow in after the launch.  There’s a massive chunk of time you’ll have to spend spreading the word about the campaign, answering all the questions from potential investors, and sharing updates on your company’s progress throughout the campaign. The rewarding part is that you end up playing a volume game and can convert people much faster when the minimum investment amount is relatively low.

 

Andrews: You reached your campaign minimum fairly quickly. Congrats! What’s next for your campaign?

Dicko: We just increased the maximum amount we can raise and extended the length of the campaign. We have about a month left to continue raising money on the [equity crowdfunding] platform. We are also using the traction from the equity crowdfunding campaign to successfully pitch institutional investors. We’ll continue to share updates about our progress over the next month!

 

Andrews: Fundraising is hard. Fundraising for diverse founders is harder. What impact do you think equity crowdfunding will have on access to capital for diverse founders?

Dicko: I believe this fundraising method will democratize how capital is deployed to underrepresented entrepreneurs. As many already know, the current VC system is very broken. As a Black, female founder, I want to show other minority founders that traditional VC capital is not the only way to grow an early-stage business. With equity-based fundraising platforms only in their infancy stages, it’s an exciting time for people from all walks of life to invest in the people and ideas in which they believe. There’s never been more opportunity for African Americans to invest in people who look like them.

 

Andrews: Looking back, is there anything you would do differently with your campaign?

Dicko: Initially, we set the maximum amount of money we could raise as $ 107,000. There are extra financial-verification steps necessary to increase that amount to $ 1 million. Toward the initial end of the campaign, we were on track to raise more than $ 107,000, so we increased the limit. In making changes to our campaign, we were required to update our financial information reflecting the change and notify our investors to reconfirm their investment. This can be a be a tedious process, so it’s best to make sure you plan accordingly and set the maximum amount you can raise high if you: 1. believe you realistically can raise over a certain amount, and 2. can afford the time and resources to do so. It wasn’t the worst problem to have but still required time.

 

Andrews: What’s next for Jetpack? How do you plan to grow the business over the next year?

Dicko: We’re super excited to be introducing our product to multiple campuses this fall. We’ve also revamped our tech to allow students to place orders within seconds with a text message. The next year will involve gaining new users across different regions, learning which products work best on different campuses, and eventually opening up our platform to allow the exchange of people’s own personal items and products in addition to the products we provide.

Riverdale Stars Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes Star in Their First Fashion Campaign for Bongo

Riverdale stars Lili Reinhart, 20, and Camila Mendes, 23, are trading their River Vixen uniforms for some Bongo jeans as the brand’s new faces. And they’re BFF status offscreen is just as strong (if not stronger) than Betty and Veronica’s friendship on the CW hit.

“Rachel Bilson, Nicole Richie, Vanessa Hudgens … so many of my idols growing up were Bongo girls,” Mendes, 23, tells PeopleStyle exclusively of her new gig. Adds Reinhart, “I have a younger sister and to know that she’s going to be able to see her older sister in a magazine with this clothing brand that I grew up with, I feel very blessed.”

The leading ladies of the CW hit star in the brand’s fall campaign (aptly titled #BongoBFFs) shot by photographer Matt Jones in the California desert. They model back-to-school trends ranging from flannels to denim jackets to star-print sweaters and the latest denim trends.

We caught up with the co-stars during their shoot to get the scoop on their style, their characters and more below.

What are you fall fashion must-haves?

LR: We both are jeans girls; I grew up wearing denim everyday to school. A fun fall trend is matching different colors and different textures of denim. We also love a good bootie.

CM: I came to set wearing denim-on-denim and one of the first outfits I tried on was denim-on-denim so I was like, ‘This is great, this is right in line with what I believe!’ Lili and I both like to dress very comfortably and I think that’s kind of what fall is all about.

Where do you find style inspiration?

CM: I have a Tumblr that’s private, it’s only for my own use, but I just follow a bunch of style accounts and reblog everything I like and my layout is like a grid layout so I can just… every time I go on my Tumblr it suits me because it feels like an extension of who I am and it really helps me visualize like what I like and what my style is so that when I go shopping I kind of have more of an eye for it now.

LR: I just check my Instagram. I get a lot of inspiration from there, I follow a lot of different designers and not really people in particular, just kind of designers and shops, certain stores that I love and just kind of draw inspiration from there and bookmark them.

How does your style compare to your characters?

CM: I mean obviously our show has a very specific style. It is magnified and feels like it’s fictional so Veronica wears a lot of tight clothing, cinched waists, skirts and heels and nylons. She’s very polished and put-together. She’s like high-fashion Teresa, Barbie’s best friend. But like I’m way more casual than that. I don’t wear heels. Veronica doesn’t wear jeans or shorts, which is like all I wear.

LR: Betty wears a ton of jeans with her sweaters and cardigans, and I grew up wearing a lot of cardigans so now I kind of have hatred for them. It makes me feel like I’m in fifth grade again. But Betty is obviously very sweet. We got those Peter Pan collars, we do the button downs and that’s super great but it’s not necessarily my style. I’m definitely a little bit more edgy than Betty. I don’t think my style is edgy in general but I’m very laid back whereas Betty is more put-together and polished, and I’m more of like a loose t-shirt , and you know we both, me and Cami, don’t wear super-tight, fitted things all the time. Our characters are always very fitted.

Both Betty and Veronica always have perfect hair on the show. Do you have any past hair regrets?

CM: Ombré! It wasn’t that bad but my hair color is really hard to pull off an ombré, because I have such dark hair that it turns orange and it wasn’t gradual at all. It was like black and then almost yellow  it’s one of those things where if you don’t take care of it, it’ll look really ratchet for sure.

LR: I’m just worried my hair will fall out. I’m naturally kind of a very ashy, dirty blonde, but definitely have to highlight it a lot more for the show. It’s a process. Everyone knows how much our show has to worry about my hair. It’s a lot trying to nurse my hair back to health.

CM: Lili won’t have a scalp by the end of…

LR: I won’t have any hair left by the end. Betty Cooper will be wearing a wig after all of this.

Netflix Launches #FirstTimeISawMe Campaign With Ava Duvernay, Spike Lee & More

Netflix has launched a new campaign that brings into to focus the streaming content network’s aim to bring diversity and equal representation across all races and cultures on screen. Included in the #FirstTimeISawMe effort are notable stars and figures such as Ava DuVernay, Spike Lee and Marlon Wayans among others.

The #FirstTimeISawMe campaign ties directly with the network’s original programming schedule of late, which prominently features women and actors of color in a wide variety of roles. With Davis, DuVernay, Lee, and Wayans speaking at length on how they’ve been able to see themselves in entertainers that inspire them while also providing the same inspiration to others via Netflix’s platform and beyond.
