England Training for the World Cup Semi-Final With a Rubber Chicken Is Every Fan’s Dream

With just one day to go until England battles Croatia for a spot in the 2018 World Cup final, the English team is trying out an interesting new training method.

Ahead of Tuesday’s semi-final match between France and Belgium, the English squad—including Golden boot frontrunner Harry Kane—was spotted tossing around a rubber chicken in preparation for their big Wednesday game.

Fans, of course, were delighted to see the players getting along so well.

“Actually love the atmosphere of this England team. Throwing around a rubber chicken as a training drill,” one England enthusiast wrote. “Even if it isn’t coming home, which it is, they’ve been an absolute delight to follow this campaign.”

“Love how chilled the England squad is, playing with rubber chickens in training day before their biggest game in 28 years hahahaha class,” added another.

Honey-Chipotle Chicken and Sweet Potatoes

A few simple steps and a sheet pan are all you need to make this recipe. Even though they share the same marinade, each ingredient’s flavor comes out in its own unique way. I love the smokiness and heat that the chipotle brings and the honey and lime help balance the flavor profile. Make sure to try your marinade first, as those chipotle chiles are hot! – Chef Rob Thomas

INGREDIENTS

  • 1-2 chipotle chiles from a can of chipotles in adobo
  • 1 Tbsp. adobo sauce
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 lime, halved, divided
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 lbs bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 lb sweet potatoes , peeled and cut into
  • 1-inch chunks
  • 1 lb fresh green beans
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro

INSTRUCTIONS

Place the chipotle chiles, adobo sauce, garlic, oil, honey, cumin, juice of half a lime, and salt in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth.

Place the chicken, sweet potatoes, and green beans in a large resealable bag or bowl and pour in the marinade.

Toss to evenly coat everything in the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 425°F.

Place the chicken skin-side up and the vegetables on a baking sheet. Roast until the chicken registers 165°F in the thickest part of the meat not touching bone and the vegetables are tender and lightly caramelized (30 to 35 minutes).

If you prefer the chicken skin to be crispier, broil for a few minutes until the skin is browned and crisp. Remove from the oven, and squeeze the remaining lime half over the chicken and vegetables. Let cool for 6-8 minutes. Sprinkle with the cilantro and serve by itself or over cooked rice.

This couple did a chicken nugget-themed engagement shoot, because foodie love is the best love

A couple had a chicken nugget-themed engagement shoot. Full stop. We’ve seen a variety of *interesting* engagement photoshoots over the years. There’s the empowering kind (like the couple who did a body-positive boudoir shoot), the dreamy kind (the pair who took inspiration from Beauty and the Beast), and the plain bizarre (the T-Rex engagement shoot comes to mind). But what about the engagement photo shoots that leave you super hungry? Steph and Brett from Ontario, Canada posed for a McNuggets-themed photo shoot, and McDonald’s owes these two lovebirds a check (or at least a catered wedding reception).

According to the photographer Katie Marie, the couple literally asked her how they could “include chicken nuggets in [their] engagement shoot.” Katie shared the fast-food inspired photo shoot on her Instagram on June 1st, and we can’t stop lol’ing.

These photos are so goofy and sweet — and really, they used a four-pack of nuggets as a ring box. We wonder if Brett proposed like that? Down on one knee, holding a greasy to-go box, uttering the words, “Steph? Will you eat these chicken nuggets with marry me?”

Several things are clear from these photos. 1) We’re hungry. 2) Steph and Brett seem like a cool couple. 3) Katie is the kind-of wedding photographer we need more of in this world*.

*No offense to engagement photos of a couple standing in the woods gazing longingly at each other, but hiding an engagement ring inside a box of chicken nuggets is some A+ art direction.

Click through to see all the photos from this very silly chicken nugget engagement.

We love this one of the couple gazing longingly at a box of nuggets.

Congratulations to these two McDonald’s enthusiasts on their engagement! Brb, we need to Postmate some nugs now.

One-pot wonder: Cilantro lime chicken and rice

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

This is a perfect weeknight meal: packed with flavor and only dirties up one pot! This homemade version of a Chipotle classic is also kid-friendly.

I save time (and grossness) by having my butcher chop the chicken breast for me. When I’m making the meal, all I have to do is dump the chicken straight in the pan. After that, it’s literally as simple as dumping and stirring everything in. A quick boil of the minute rice in broth makes the whole dish come together in minutes.

Sprinkle with some cilantro and green onions and voila! An entire meal — starch and protein — in one pan!

One-Pot Cilantro Lime Chicken and Rice

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
Salt and pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 (4 oz) can chopped green chilies
2 tsp lime zest
3 Tbsp lime juice
1 (14.5 oz) can black beans, rinsed and well drained
2 cups minute white rice (don’t use regular rice!)
1/3 cup chopped cilantro
4 green onions, chopped

Heat oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add chicken, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and saute until cooked through, about 5-6 minutes, adding in garlic at last 1 minute of cooking. Stir in broth, green chilies, lime zest, lime juice, black beans and season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring mixture to a boil, add rice, fully immerse rice in broth, and allow to boil 20 seconds, then remove from heat and immediately cover with a lid. Let rest 5 – 6 minutes.

If needed, return pan to medium heat and cook and toss 1 minute to allow rice to absorb excess moisture. Remove from heat, toss in cilantro and remaining green onions and let rest uncovered 3 minutes.

Serves 5-6.

Cheater’s cashew chicken: So easy, so good

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

I have never posted this because it’s really not even a recipe. But I make it almost weekly (it’s one of the kids’ favorites) so I figured it might come in handy in your rotation too.

I should point out that there are plenty of NON-CHEATING recipes for cashew chicken, where you actually make the delicious sauce yourself, but when time is short and you don’t want fast food, this is our go-to.

There are two secrets to this “recipe”:

1. Get your chicken breasts at the meat counter and have the butcher chop them into bite-sized pieces for you. It saves so much time and gross-ness.

2. Buy a bottled sauce that’s good. We love PF Chang’s Teriyaki sauce which is sold in the regular grocery store.

Cheater’s Cashew Chicken

3-4 chicken breasts, chopped into bite size pieces
1 bottle teriyaki sauce
1 cup cashew pieces
Rice, broccoli, or whatever you want on the side

Drizzle a large saute pan with olive oil and cook chicken pieces over medium heat until cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drizzle with sauce and cashews and stir to combine.

I usually blanch the broccoli while the chicken is cooking. Add broccoli to boiling water for 3-5 min. Drain and rinse with cold water. Stir with a little butter and salt.

Embarrassingly easy, right?

Easy weeknight meal: Cilantro-lime chicken quinoa bowl

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

Looking for a weeknight meal that’s fast, easy and doesn’t require a single side dish because it’s all in one bowl? Done.

This was inspired by my kiddos’ love of cilantro-lime rice from Chipotle. I frequently make chicken and rice bowls, but wondered if I could up the protein, fiber and overall nutrition by using quinoa instead of rice.

It worked like a charm! The kids didn’t even bat an eyelash at the quinoa. This is a quick easy meal that is packed with flavor and doubled as lunch the next day. It’s good cold, hot, or anywhere in between. And when you have chicken leftover from another meal, this is the perfect way to use up one or two lone breasts or thighs.

Cilantro-Lime Chicken Quinoa Bowls
You can also sub some chopped rotisserie chicken if you don’t have time to cook chicken at home.

3 cups cooked quinoa, cooled
1 (15oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
Juice + zest of 1 lime
1/8 teaspoon chili powder (more if desired)
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1-2 chicken breasts, cooked and chopped into bite-sized pieces

Add all ingredients to a bowl and toss to combine! (Really, it’s that simple!)

Serves 4 as a main dish.

A Super Bowl chili alternative: Instant Pot chicken and lentil chili

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

Looking for a great alternative to the standard Super Bowl chili? My husband actually made this recipe for us based off a recipe in our Instant Pot cookbook. He played with it a little and added the chicken and it has quickly become my favorite Instant Pot recipe. It’s super healthy and packed with protein, but really delicious too. He makes a double batch and we freeze the rest for another meal.

If you have a healthier crowd that doesn’t want to sacrifice flavor, this chili is for you. It’s still hearty and red, but you lose all the saturated fat from the hamburger and gain all the protein from lentils. The chili powder and smoked paprika lend tons of flavor, and the chicken makes it super hearty — so even the manliest men don’t feel cheated by this chili.

I make the chicken first to make sure it’s cooked perfectly. (Actually I usually make a huge batch of chicken in the Instant Pot every Sunday and just use it throughout the week.) Then just throw everything else in and pressure cook it up!

Instant Pot Chicken and Lentil Chili

Chicken

I like to double or triple this recipe and freeze the rest for other recipes.

1 pound chicken breasts
1/2 cup chicken stock
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon kosher salt

Place all ingredients in the Instant Pot. Close lid and turn vent to seal. Cook on poultry setting (high pressure) for 6 minutes. Allow to release naturally for 5 minutes, and then do a quick release if needed. Remove chicken from liquid and rest chicken for 5-10 minutes. Shred or cut chicken into small pieces.

Chili

3 ounces pitted dates (We found these packaged near the prunes)
8 cloves garlic
2 (14.5 ounce) cans fire-roasted tomatoes
2 large red bell peppers, cored and chopped
1 pound red lentils
8 cups water
6 ounces tomato paste
1 large onion, chopped
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 tablespoons parsley flakes
1 1/2 tablespoons oregano
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder or more to taste
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or more to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Blend the dates, garlic, tomatoes, and red bell pepper in a blender and blend until smooth.

2. Place puree and all remaining ingredients into the Instant Pot and cook on manual at high pressure for 10 minutes.

3. Let pressure release naturally or quick release and enjoy immediately. Stir in shredded chicken and serve with crusty bread.

Competitive Eater Downs 501 Chicken Wings For Record-Breaking Win

(PHILADELPHIA) — Competitive eater Molly Schuyler gnawed her way through a record 501 chicken wings in 30 minutes to win her third Wing Bowl in Philadelphia.

Wing Bowl is usually Philadelphia’s substitute for the Eagles going to the Super Bowl.

But Friday’s competition was an unusual two-fer. It was also a rally for the Eagles on the eve of their third Super Bowl appearance.

Wing Bowl 26 drew nearly 20,000 people to the Wells Fargo Center to watch Schuyler top the old wing-eating record of 444, set in 2015.

The event was started in the 1990s by local sports radio hosts and is usually staged two days before the Super Bowl. It’s turned into a huge, boozy spectacle with a parade of flamboyant contestants and a competition for women called “Wingettes.”

On Sunday, the Eagles play the New England Patriots.

‘PUBG’: The Best Settings to Help Your Chicken Dinner Acquisition

Even if you know how to perfectly manage the circle , or you can kill hackers at 1000 paces , there are always ways to improve your PUBG game. Ahead we’ll share with you the sorts of settings the pros use to ensure they get a consistent framerate while they’re smashing through their competition on the way to another chicken dinner.

We’ve already taken you through the biggest tweak — if you haven’t done it yet, do yourself a favour and snag ReShade to dramatically change the game’s colour palette and find yourself better able to see moving enemies in the distance. And don’t forget to turn it off for a more authentic Zombies experience, too.

Just as a heads-up, we won’t get into any advantage-altering tweaks here. Editing the “ini” files was locked down with version 1.0, and any tweaks that allow you to remove grass and foliage from the game convey an unfair advantage which can get you banned, so we don’t recommend it. Still, the settings list we use can absolutely create a fair advantage against others who play the game with everything maxed, so you should keep reading!

Let’s run through the graphics settings you want to change so you can nail down a smooth game. In many cases these settings should be good for any PC setup, but we’ll note any you can play around with when we get to them.

Field of View

FOV, or Field of View, is a bit of a personal preference setting, but you should set it to 100 (provided it doesn’t make you feel motion sick) to squeeze a little bit of extra peripheral information out of the game.

Inventory Screen Character Render

Turning this off will make it so your character doesn’t show up in the inventory screen when you press tab. This change is huge, regardless of how good your PC is – we noticed a 30% increase in frames in the inventory thanks to switching this off.

The downside to this is that it takes a few microseconds longer to work out what helmet and vest you are wearing, but you can fix that by turning the “Equipments HUD” on, and you’ll see three icons representing your backpack, helmet and vest down the bottom of your screen (and the icons turn red when your equipment is damaged). Another downside is that if you accidentally replace your sexy red jeans with boring blue pants, you won’t notice until it’s too late.

Anti-Aliasing

AA controls the ‘jaggies’ that you see in games, where in-game models appear to be made of dozens of sharp edges when you look at them. It’s very much up to you whether you set this to Ultra or not, but we recommend going with Ultra because there’s not much of a frames-per-second difference between having it on or off, and it looks better.

If you don’t mind some jaggies, or if you have a lower-end PC which struggles to run PUBG, try setting it to Very Low (which technically turns it off in-game). If you see a noticeable improvement, leave it off — but you probably won’t.

Post-Processing

Post-Processing should be dumped on Low in all cases. ReShade does all the more interesting post-processing for you already, so having PP any higher than Low adds pointless bloom (that’s additional brightness) to the game, as well as motion blur which some can find nauseating.

Shadows

Setting Shadows to Very Low can make them look a bit weird indoors — they get pretty blocky as they try to render collisions. If your PC can handle it, don’t go any lower than Low to avoid this. Even if your PC is a beast, you should leave it on Low as it can help spot players who are belly crawling through grass when you’re in the open fields during the last few circles.

Textures

Textures have probably the biggest impact on gameplay in general. Put it on Very Low if you have an older PC and you’ll find that the game is able to load buildings at the start of a match a lot faster.

I have a pretty good computer, but I don’t go above High — going lower to Medium makes literally no difference, but setting it to Ultra can cause some frame drops in towns like Los Leones.

PUBG Settings Menu
Our preferred Advanced Settings

Effects

Effects is similar to Textures, in that you will see performance increases the lower you set it. Going above Medium for Effects can make hiding out in the Red Zone a bit of a slideshow on even my beastly PC, so I recommend leaving it on Medium!

Foliage

Turn Foliage on Very Low. It’s not a huge difference, but the grass in fields will render for a slightly shorter distance the lower you put this, which means on very low you will be able to see people snaking through fields a little closer. It’s a matter of 10s of metres, but it counts.

View Distance

Regardless of your computer’s performance, View Distance shouldn’t be lower than Medium. There is functionally no difference in the game between View Distance on Very Low and Medium, so go Medium or nothing.

Setting it above Medium is up to personal preference, but there’s not much point putting it on High either, as it’s nearly identical to Ultra. I go for Ultra, but if you see frame-rate increases on Medium then leave it there and you shouldn’t be disadvantaged in-game.

Remember to tweak these settings to best suit your PC setup! Hopefully though these options should create the perfect balance between performance and viewability to best allow you to earn all those PUBG chicken dinners you so richly deserve.

Super easy one-pot chicken chili verde

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

Need a dump-and-stir dinner that tastes restaurant quality? This easy white bean chicken chili is perfect for busy weeknights. It takes some help from a can of verde (green) salsa which provides the burst of flavor and color.

All the work is done in one stock pot. You stir up the olive oil, onions, and spices and simply dump the rest of the ingredients in. Let it simmer as long as you need — it can go for hours if needed on low, low heat. Stir in the cooked chicken right before serving and you’ve got dinner.

If you don’t have any cooked chicken breast handy, a rotisserie chicken works great.

Easy One-Pot Chicken Chili Verde
If you’re going to let this simmer for a long while (on very low heat), wait and add the cooked chicken just before serving. This will keep it from overcooking. This makes your house smell SO GOOD!

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup diced yellow onion
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
16 ounces salsa verde
15-ounces cannellini beans or Great Northern beans, not drained
1 pound (about 4 cups) shredded cooked chicken
32 ounces chicken broth or stock
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro (or to taste)

Heat oil in a stock pot over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook, stirring occasionally for 4-5 minutes. Add cumin, salt and pepper, continue to stir and cook for another 1 minute.
Stir in salsa verde and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.

Add remaining ingredients, bring to a simmer. Salt and pepper to taste, lower heat and cook covered for about 20 minutes.

Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Serves 6.

Bronx Man Robs Fast-Food Joint’s Chicken and Biscuits, Wasn’t Popeyes

Most people know and love the Hamburglar, but how will society embrace a chicken thief?

DNAInfo is reporting that the NYPD is on the lookout for a man who walked into a Texas Chicken and Burgers in the Bronx and began to liberate the establishment of its chicken and biscuits.

Police have released a video of the July 27 fast-food heist which showed the suspect nonchalantly stuffing his shoulder bag with different pieces of chicken before taking an entire tray of biscuits and calmly hopping over the counter to be on his way.

Luckily for everyone, no one was hurt and no cash was stolen. Just chicken and biscuits (guess security at Popeyes was too thorough?_.

We’re surprised he didn’t take a burger. We mean, while in Rome, you know.

Check out the video of the robbery below.

Kid-tested: Instant Pot honey garlic chicken

by

Lindsay Weiss

posted in Life

Every single member of my picky-eating family requested we add this one “to the rotation” so I figured I’d RUN, not walk, to tell you about it.

If you don’t have an Instant Pot, this one can totally be done in a saute pan. The beauty of the Instant Pot is 1) how fast it cooks everything and 2) the fact that you can do everything in one pot.

I’m sure the reason the kids love this is that there’s lots of honey in it. But the sweet is tempered with the savory garlic and a small hint of spice with the sriracha. You can add sriracha more liberally if desired, but we have some wimps in my family.

The chicken comes out SO tender and flavorful. I might even double the sauce next time so we can scoop more over rice. It’s lick-the-bowl kind of sauce.

Serve with some broccoli or snow peas…they’re really great dipped in the sauce too!

Looking for more Sweets and Eats for the Whole Family? Find Lindsay at Sugar Mama.

Instant Pot Honey Garlic Chicken

1 1/2 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized cubes
2 green scallions, sliced

Sauce:
6 tbsp honey
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tbsp sriracha sauce
2 tbsp water
3 tsp cornstarch

Whisk all sauce ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth.

Place chicken pieces in Instant Pot. Set to “Saute” and quickly cook the chicken for about 1-2 minutes (just starting to turn white around the outer edges).

Pour sauce mixture over the chicken. Seal the Instant Pot and set to manual mode; cook on high pressure for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, do a quick release so that the chicken does not overcook. Chicken should be cooked and tender when you open your Instant Pot.

Immediately add cornstarch to the chicken mixture and stir until dissolved. Turn Instant Pot back to saute function and continue to stir the sauce until it thickens, just a minute or two. The sauce will thicken further as it cools.

Serve over rice and garnish with scallions. Serve immediately.

Woman Takes Engagement Photos With Her One True Love: Popeyes Chicken

When it comes to being engaged, Elyse Chelsea Clark is throwing caution to the wind, er, wing.

The New Orleans bartender is such a fan of Popeyes Chicken that she decided to do a series of engagement photos with her favorite fast food.

Then she posted the poultry-centered pics on Facebook with this note: “I’m finally engaged!”

The Popeyes engagement pics taken by photographer Whitney Tucker show Clark looking romantically at chicken boxes…

Strolling through the park with the object of her affection …

And smooching that box with the same passion that is typically reserved for love’s kiss.

Oh, and she likes the biscuits too.

The photos might be funny, but Clark’s passion for Popeyes is real and true.

“I have a really big love for Popeyes,” she told the New Orleans Times-Picayne. “I eat it all the time.”

The chain responded to Clark’s engagement spread with this tweet.

These “Sacred Sightings” are always popular, both with believers, who feel the pictures confirm that God is truly everywhere, and with people impressed with the human ability to create patterns from what are basically random shapes.
