Author Kelly Oxford, Who Started #NotOkay, Claims Her Ex-Husband Once Threw a Phone at Her Head

Kelly Oxford is opening up about the possible reason she and ex-husband divorced.

The New York Times bestselling author, 41, claimed her ex-husband James Oxford was allegedly abusive in a series of Instagram Story photos on Monday.

The mother of three divorced from James in 2016 after 17 years of marriage. That same year, Oxford started the #notokay hashtag on Twitter after a 2005 video conversation between Donald Trump and Billy Bush emerged in which the now-president how he liked to grab women by their genitals.

Women shared their stories of sexual abuse and sexual harassment on Twitter with #notokay. Now, Oxford is now explaining her own #notokay moment, beginning with what ended her marriage with a simple caption explaining that she was writing alone.

“Some days I just put on a ton of makeup and write alone all day,” she wrote. She continued, writing, “I’ve been threatened and scared to write about the marriage I was in, but I’m over it.”

“Abuse is hard to talk about. Especially when you’re the only one who sees it. It feels like a ghost,” Oxford explained.

“Don’t marry someone who throws a phone at your head, I did and I became a terrible person,” she continued, before adding, “I’M BETTER NOW.”

James Oxford did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The two married in 2007 and share three children together.

The screenwriter of Sausage Party has been open about being divorced and raising three children as a single parent.

In March, Oxford shared a selfie of herself on vacation while delving into her struggle with her ex-husband not being there.

“Oh hey, it’s me again. This is my first vacation with the kids and no dad and there have been waves of total depression and waves of total gratitude,” she wrote in the caption.

“Right now, I’m feeling shitty; I’m sharing because I know a lot of you are single parents and get it and don’t want to feel alone either,” Oxford continued.

“Anyhow, I just woke up, came to the beach and had a coffee alone (alone, not so shockingly, is hard after having a partner for 17 years) and wanted a cigarette, after nearly 4 months of quitting, but didn’t smoke,” she added.

Filipe Toledo Claims Back-to-Back Wins at Corona Open J-Bay

WSL PRESS RELEASE

JEFFREYS BAY, South Africa (Thursday, July 5, 2018) – Today, Filipe Toledo (BRA) won the Men’s Corona Open J-Bay for the second year in a row. The Brasilian lit up four-to-six foot (1.3 – 2 metre) Supertubes at Jeffreys Bay to win the sixth stop the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) and vault to World No. 1 on the Jeep Leaderboard.

“Back-to-back wins is always something that I’ve dreamed of,” said Toledo. “It could not be more special here in J-Bay after last year and this year we’ve had such good waves again. Thanks, God. Thanks, Jesus. Thank you to my family and everyone supporting me. I feel so blessed right now.”

Toledo’s back-to-back win came with spectacular performances throughout the entire event. Out of the top ten highest single-wave scores of the Corona Open J-Bay, five belonged to Toledo (all 9-point rides). The same was true for the event’s highest heat total, where Toledo was responsible for five of the top ten.

2018 Corona Open J-Bay
Defending event champion Filipe Toledo (BRA) advances to the Semifinals of the 2018 Corona Open J-Bay after winning Quarterfinal Heat 3 at Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.

The 23-year-old is now 7-0 for Finals wins, defeating every opponent he’s ever faced in a Final. Toledo will now move up to first on the Jeep Rankings and wear the Jeep Leader Jersey at Stop No. 7 on the WSL CT, the Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o.  Leading the next generation of progressive surfing, today’s CT victory over 2018 CT Rookie Wade Carmichael (AUS) marks the Brasilian’s second in 2018.

“When it is Finals Day, it is just something that clicks,” continued Toledo. “It is now or never, and I put it all on the line. That is always my strategy, ‘Go big or go home.’ It is easy like that and I went big. Finals is one of those heats where it is first or second, there are no losers, so I just go really big and put all my work on the wave. That is why I train. That is why I’ve been really focused.

“Repeating the Final with Wade Carmichael, who has been really solid the whole event and surfing really well, it was a pleasure to surf against him. He took down some really big names. I am stoked to get the win and thank you to everyone.”

The rematch of the Oi Rio Pro Final earlier in May saw Toledo and Carmichael throw big scores in the J-Bay lineup. Carmichael opened the exchange with a commanding 7.33 (out of a possible 10), but Toledo was on the next wave to challenge the Australian with an 8.50. The back-and-forth battle continued with only one-tenth of a point separating the two surfers at the halfway mark. The Brasilian opened the gap with a critical 8.33, giving the Australian one last opportunity to challenge. In the dying seconds of the heat, Carmichael attempted a big air but missed the landing and the scoring opportunity.

2018 Corona Open J-Bay
Wade Carmichael (AUS) advances to the Semifinals of the 2018 Corona Open J-Bay after winning Quarterfinal Heat 1 at Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.

In his first time competing at the Corona Open J-Bay, Carmichael claimed a stunning second-place result with big wins over event favorites Jordy Smith (ZAF) in the Semifinals and Conner Coffin (USA) in the Quarterfinals. The 25-year-old from the Central Coast of Australia showed today that he is a mainstay amongst the world elite with a boost to World No. 6.

“I had no expectations coming into this year,” said Carmichael. “I am really happy. I just want to keep improving my surfing. I’m having that much fun, and I want to keep going. I am enjoying every minute of this. I want to thank everyone. The support was ridiculous. This place is unreal and I love it. I feel right at home on the wave. It is amazing.”

Carmichael stopped local hero Smith from earning his third event win at this year’s Corona Open J-Bay. The extremely close Semifinal saw Carmichael garner a 13.77 two-wave total to Smith’s 13.30. The 0.47-point difference eliminated Smith in Equal 3rd place.

“Maybe some of my scores I felt like were maybe flipped, but Wade (Carmichael) is surfing really well and I wish him the best of luck,” Smith said. “It has been really nice for me to be home. I just want to thank everyone for so much of the support – it has been awesome. It is a third. It is not the worst thing in the world, it could have been way worse. I am just going to keep having fun and enjoying my time here in J-Bay.”

Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) fell to Toledo in the second Semifinal. The 20-year-old was responsible for the highest single-wave score of the event, a near-perfect 9.67 in Round 4, but was not able to bring the results against the eventual winner.

Julian Wilson (AUS) fell to Smith in the second Quarterfinal. The Australian came into this event as World No. 1, but his 5th place finish now moves him down to second on the Jeep Leaderboard. Wilson is the defending event winner of the next men’s CT stop, the Tahiti Pro, and now prepares to defend his win at the infamous Teahupo’o.

“Me and Jordy (Smith) have had plenty of good battles and we had another close one there,” said Wilson. “I feel like that was a great result. I didn’t find my best this week in J-Bay but was able to find a good result. It is just past halfway in the year and there are is a lot of good events left.  I am excited for Tahiti. Same as here where you just look at the forecast and either get really really scared or get on your shortboard and throw everything at it like last year.”

The waiting period for the Women’s Corona Open J-Bay opens tomorrow and will run through July 16. The WSL Commissioner’s Office will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m. local time (SAST) to assess the conditions and determine if the competition will run.

The Corona Open J-Bay will be broadcast LIVE on the WSL’s Facebook page. Also, check local listings for coverage from the WSL’s broadcast partners.

Surfline, forecast partner of the WSL, is calling for:

Rippable SSW swell prevails Thursday morning, with a  building trend of medium to strong surf over the later afternoon and evening. Friday early morning should still see good size surf, with a fading trend through the day. Wind looks favorable most of the day Thursday before trending light+ onshore on Friday. A modest size, heavily shadowed WSW/SW swell should build in Sunday afternoon before easing Monday, although wind will likely be side shore or onshore. There is some potential for a new swell around the end of the event window.

Margot Robbie has responded to claims she looks like Megan from Love Island

JUICY.

Megan Barton Hanson seems to be the girl pretty much everyone wants in the Love Island villa this series.

You may remember that during one episode, Alex (aka Dr Love) referred to Megan as ‘the hottest girl on the planet’ and compared her to Margot Robbie. And it’s true, there’s definitely a resemblance.

But funnily enough, the actress herself saw the clip and has some thoughts.

love island beauty

‘The other night we were watching and I think it was Alex who said that, and we all lost it! We were like, “Oh my god, they know who I am on Love Island!”,’ she recently told Metro.

Side note: we are loving that even Margot Robbie is obsessed with the show.

So what did the star think of the comparison itself?

margot robbie

‘I personally don’t see the resemblance,’ she said. ‘We’d just finished drinking beer and eating crisps and saying, “We’re so disgusting we could never be on Love Island we’re such fatties, they would never let us on”.

‘They all have amazing bodies and they are so gorgeous and always so done up and looking incredible, and then they said [I look like her] and we were like, “Oh my god!”‘

We definitely don’t agree that Margot Robbie isn’t seriously gorgeous herself. Come on now.

On another note, anyone else think it’s a bit weird that she was surprised they knew who she is? You’re an Oscar-nominated actress, girl!

EMPLOYMENT SEARCH UPDATE:

How This Man Made $60K in 2 Months as an Independent Claims Adjuster

As August turned into September in 2017, the eyes of the nation were glued to their tablets, phones and TV screens. Hurricane Harvey had just slammed Texas with record rainfall and catastrophic flooding, and Hurricane Irma was tearing through the Caribbean with its sights set on Florida.

It seemed like The Weather Channel was on wherever you went.

Brett Brown’s eyes were fixed on his computer screen too, but for different reasons: He was hunting for a job.

Fresh out of grad school with a degree in plant pathology, Brown was back in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, and looking to put his education to good use. But as we all know, landing a job is easier said than done.

So when Brown got a phone call from an old family friend about a temporary job opportunity, he was intrigued. Would he be willing to do some work in Florida for a few weeks after Irma passed? The friend told Brown that he could make enough to pay off most of his student loans, if not all of them.

Naturally, Brown was skeptical. Usually when you get a call out of the blue about a job that pays thousands of dollars and requires no previous experience, it’s too good to be true. But for independent insurance adjusters in the aftermath of a natural disaster, those kind of earnings are very real.

So Brown loaded up his truck and headed to Florida.

Becoming an Independent Catastrophe Claims Adjuster

Independent adjusters work as a contractor for an adjusting firm. Earnings vary, depending on the amount of work put in and the adjusting firm’s fee schedule, but skilled independent adjusters can make upwards of six figures a year.

Like staff adjusters, who work for one company, or public adjusters, who represent policy holders, independents can handle daily claims, catastrophe claims or a mix of both. Daily work consists of routine claims that happen all the time, like water damage from a busted pipe.  Catastrophe claims are the result of a natural or man-made disasters, such as a hurricane or an oil spill.

Brown hadn’t abandoned his goal of working in horticulture, but when an opportunity to make good money comes a-knockin’ (or, in this case, calling) he took it.

Adjusters Needed — Badly

Because Harvey and Irma happened in such quick succession, Florida faced a monumental problem: a shortage of insurance adjusters. Staff and independent adjusters from all over the country had already made their way to Texas by the time Irma barreled through the Sunshine State.

With two of the country’s largest and most populated states hit hard by hurricanes that caused over $ 290 billion in damages, independent catastrophe adjusters were in high demand, and firms were willing to take on people with little to no experience.

So on Sept. 12, 2017, Brown found himself at the Quality Inn & Suites in Gulf Breeze, Florida, to start training as an independent claims adjuster for the Canada-based company Catastrophe Response Unit. He had zero experience and wasn’t quite sure what he’d had signed up for.

The Training Process

Brett Brown poses with his truck
While working as a claims adjuster, Brown would spend up to 16 hours a day working using a ladder, pitch gauge, tape measure and his phone to photograph roofs and other damaged property. Jeff Haller for The Penny Hoarder

Brown and about 70 other people in his group spent the next five days filling out paperwork, watching training videos, taking tests and listening to presentations on proper procedures for inspecting and processing claims. Since the need for adjusters was so high, the training process was streamlined.

“They were just trying to get people out in the field and get clients seen and properties inspected as soon as they possibly could,” Brown says.

He had to learn the industry’s standard software for property claims estimation. And he had to buy it — for $ 150. Independent claims adjusters cover their expenses — lodging, gas, food, the whole nine yards — out of pocket. Fortunately for Brown, he already had a laptop, a ladder and a truck.

“[Catastrophe Response Unit] stressed that you don’t think about the money that you’re spending now,” Brown says. “Just think about the investment that you’re making for yourself in the next month or two.”

Claims adjusters, even temporary ones, must be licensed, and each state has its own rules and regulations. After completing the five days of training and certification, Brown earned an emergency license. Several states — Florida being one of them — make these available during catastrophe situations.

How Payment Is Made

Independent adjusters work on a contract basis, with their pay based on a fee schedule rather than a salary or hourly wage. An insurance company pays the independent adjusting firm a certain fee per every claim closed; the percentage paid is based on the final claim settlement. Once the company receives its fee, it pays the adjuster a portion, which generally ranges from 55% to 70%. (With CRU, Brown’s was around 60%.)

To break it down a little further: When Brown processed a claim of up to $ 20,000, he made $ 600. For claims between $ 20,000 and $ 50,000, he took home $ 900; over $ 50,000, his fee was $ 1,200.

In other words, the more difficult and costly the claim, the higher the payout.

A Day in the Life

Brown shows a typical photo he would take using his phone as a claims adjuster.

After completing the speedy training process, Brown headed south to set up base in Tampa, Florida. With no previous experience in claims adjusting, the learning curve was steep. His first week was pretty rough.

Brown started with 50 claims. He had to contact each policyholder to schedule a time to view the damage before he could get out in the field. He booked visits to homes near one another in order to maximize the amount of visits he could make in a day.

Once he had some inspections scheduled, the hard, physical work really kicked in.

Brown set his alarm for 6 a.m., with his first inspection starting as early as 7:30. Although he was based in Tampa, his appointments took him all over central Florida.

Inspections averaged about an hour, depending on the amount of damage. While he only took on one or two inspections a day in the beginning, Brown added more as he grew comfortable. By his second week, he was logging four or five claims a day. At his busiest times, Brown handled up to 10 in a single day.

Once he found his groove, he was earning between $ 600 and $ 6,000 a day.

Whether the property was missing a few shingles or had lost an entire wall, each one required extensive inspection. Hauling around a ladder and climbing up on roofs was part of the job — and don’t forget this was all in Florida, where autumn is an urban legend and 90-degree days are standard.

It was on one of those roofs, about a week in, that Brown realized his worn-out New Balances were not proper footwear. He found himself trapped on a particularly steep roof, in danger of sliding off. Brown avoided his own catastrophe, but invested in some sturdy, non-slip work boots.

After a long day of inspections, with maybe a 30-minute lunch break squeezed in, Brown would head back to the rental house he shared with other CRU adjusters he met during training. But his work was far from over. In order to get the claim processed, paperwork for each inspection was required. He’d stay up until about midnight entering damages into his software and drawing up paperwork, then set his alarm and wake up at 6 to do it all over again.

Brown’s insanely long hours are an industry norm during a catastrophe. “They stay in a fleabag hotel and work 16 hours a day, six to seven days a week,” says Peter Crosa, who owns Peter J. Crosa & Co. and has been in the adjusting business for over 40 years. “They end up making a lot of money… but it’s tough duty.”

In addition to being away from home, driving to properties scattered across several counties and working 16-hour days, Brown had to meet with people who were dealing with the nightmare of a damaged or destroyed home. That part was challenging and emotionally draining.

In all, though, Brown found the job quite rewarding. He was, after all, helping people in times of dire need.

The Net Result

Brett Brown poses at the water front in Fairhope, Ala.,
Brown has decided to maintain his skills as a claims adjuster as an option for a way to make extra money in the future. Jeff Haller for The Penny Hoarder

On Nov. 1, Brown packed his bags and headed home to Alabama. Less than two months of working 16-hour days, seven days a week had grossed him over $ 60,000.

After deducting taxes, which as an independent contractor he had to handle on his own, Brown netted about $ 40,000. He decided to put a little bit away for rainy days and investments. The rest went toward his student loans, and he was able to pay off the majority. Brown still has some debt left, but imagine the relief of paying off $ 40,000 worth of loans in one sitting.

So was it all worth it?

“Oh, absolutely,” Brown says. “The first couple of weeks, I was doubting myself and the opportunity as a whole, but after that second week it really became clear that this was not just blowing smoke.”

Brown still plans to pursue a career in horticulture. But he says he won’t totally rule out doing some short-term claims adjusting in the future — especially now that he knows what he’d be getting himself into.

After all, he’s still got more student loans to pay.

Jersey Shore’s Ronnie Cries Over Relationship With Jen, Claims She Cheated

While Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino couldn’t wait to pop the question when his girlfriend Lauren Pesce visited the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation house, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was having a more difficult time.

During the Thursday, June 4, episode, Ronnie revealed to his roommates that he was feeling really down about his relationship with Jen Harley, who at the time, was seven months pregnant. After Vinny Guadagnino’s mother surprised the house with a visit and talked to Ronnie about the relationship, it just sank in more that he wasn’t completely happy.

“I want to be with her, I love her, I just don’t know where her heart is,” Ronnie said. “Truthfully, I just don’t trust her.” When Jenni “JWoww” Farley, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Deena Cortese asked if that lack of trust was because she had cheated in the past, he said “Yes.”

“Nobody’s perfect. I did my dirt too so I can just say, like, ‘It was her.’ But everything I did was a reaction to her actions,” he said. “I’m also not used to being with someone like myself. Like, I met my match.”

At the end of the episode, after seeing how in love Mike and Lauren were, Ronnie broke down crying in the confessional.

“After talking to Vinny’s mom and seeing the happiness that Mike has, I’m realizing I have to reevaluate my life, myself and my relationship,” he said. “I want a family, I want to be happy, I want to be in Mike’s shoes. I want to propose. I want to have the feeling of more than just, ‘We’re together and we have a kid.’ I want more than that. Everyone else goes and lives their lives, and they’re f—king happy and I don’t have all the s—t they have. It’s just me. Who the f—k is the right person at this point?”

He continued, through tears: “I was with a girl for eight years, and that s—t didn’t work out. Now I got a girl pregnant after a year and it’s probably not gonna work out. What is it? Please tell me, because I have no idea. I’m doing my best to try to make it work and it’s not. I feel like, here I am: the same crying ass bitch Ronnie. The same f—king place, in the same f—king house. It’s just hard.”

Former FCC Chairman Claims Ajit Pai Lied About DDoS Attack on Net Neutrality Forum

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai lied when he claimed a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack brought down the agency’s comments system in 2014, his predecessor says.

It’s the latest salvo in the controversy over why the FCC’s public comment forum crashed in the middle of the debate over net neutrality rules last year. Pai claimed it was attacked by hackers who deliberately overloaded the servers (a DDoS attack). He doubled down on his claim by saying that the FCC was the victim of a similar attack the last time net neutrality was considered in 2014. And, Pai claimed, the FCC covered it up.

Supporters of net neutrality rules, which Pai opposes, say the FCC is not coming clean about the real reason behind the crash. They argue it was likely a flood of comments supporting net neutrality, or even a simply technical glitch, that brought down the FCC system.

Earlier this week, former FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said Pai’s statements about 2014 FCC site outage were false, Ars Technica reported. No attack was officially reported and there’s a good reason for that, according to Wheeler.

“FCC officials who were there at the time said it didn’t happen,” Wheeler said during a taping of the C-SPAN show, The Communicators, according to Axios. He added, “The independent IT contractors that were hired said it didn’t happen. So if it didn’t happen, it’s hard to have a coverup for something that didn’t happen.”

Adding fuel to the fire was a report from Gizmodo on Tuesday that internal emails confirmed that the FCC did not tell the truth about any alleged DDoS attack. The emails show that FCC officials made false claims of an attack to explain the problems with the comment system.

Since Wheeler’s allegation on Wednesday, the FCC has refused to take questions from reporters, and has prevented the release of records related to the issue through FOIA requests, citing the Trade Secrets Act.

FDA Says Claims About Sunscreen Pills Could Burn Sun Worshippers

Bathing suit? Check. Beach towel? Got it. Sunscreen? Absolutely — but you may want to heed this new warning first.

The Food and Drug Administration is cautioning sun worshipers that a pill marketed to keep them safe from damaging rays actually could put them at risk.

Not to mention waste their money.

The agency this week warned four companies to stop advertising sunscreen pills and capsules as effective in preventing sunburn. FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb says the companies are misleading consumers and putting people at risk of harmful sun exposure.

“The FDA has not approved any pill for the claims these companies are making, so that should be a red flag,” said Theresa Eisenman, an FDA spokeswoman. “There’s no pill or capsule that can replace your sunscreen.”

At $ 25 to $ 50 a bottle, the pills are also pricy — especially if they don’t work.

The warning comes just in time for “Don’t Fry Day,” the Friday before the unofficial start of the summer vacation season — Memorial Day. The National Council on Skin Care Prevention designated the day to encourage people to cover up and use sunscreen to protect against skin cancer, the most common cancer in the U.S.

The FDA on Tuesday sent warning letters to Advanced Skin Brightening Formula, Sunsafe Rx, Solaricar and Sunergetic. The agency says the companies are illegally marketing dietary supplements and making unproven drug claims — namely, that their pills and capsules protect people from sun damage and, in some cases, even skin cancer.

On Friday, one of the companies was still advertising its product on its website as a method “backed by science” to protect eyes and skin from ultraviolet rays.

According to the warning letters, the companies claim their pills are useful in preventing or mitigating disease — an assertion the FDA says illegally establishes them as a drug. The FDA must approve all drugs sold for human consumption in the U.S.

These four companies aren’t the only ones advertising such products on popular sites such as Amazon, eBay and Walmart.com, so consumers have to be vigilant.

The only legitimate sunscreens are sold over the counter as creams, sprays, lotions or sticks, Eisenman said.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Thomas Rohrer advises his patients to apply sunscreen liberally, stay in the shade when possible, wear a hat with a wide brim and protect their eyes with sunglasses when they’re outside. And never sunbathe.

An SPF — sun protection factor — of more than 50 isn’t necessary, he said, although he uses sunscreen with an SPF of 85 or 100. Sunscreens with a higher SPF tend to cost a little more, but Rohrer, whose practice is in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, said they do no harm and may provide extra protection.

Effective ingredients are critical, but it’s also important to choose a sunscreen that feels good on the skin.

“Find one that is cosmetically appealing,” he said. “You have to find a sunscreen that you’ll use.”

It’s never too early to start protecting against skin cancer, according to new guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The group advises doctors to counsel their patients about the importance of sunscreen for babies as young as 6 months old.

Rohrer says an annual screening for skin cancer is a good idea, especially for people who have had the disease or have a history of it in their family. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

Finally, don’t ignore moles that change in size, shape or color or pimples in a sun-exposed area that linger, crust over, bleed or get larger. They could be signs of cancer or pre-cancer, he said.

One in five Americans will get skin cancer by the time they reach age 70, according to a 2010 study published in the Archives of Dermatology.

Rumor claims Apple to release a $200 HomePod under the Beats umbrella

Apple HomePod Price

It’s no secret that Apple’s HomePod isn’t exactly a runaway hit. Despite strong reviews praising the device’s incredible sound quality, consumers in recent months have gravitated more towards rival offerings from the likes of Amazon and Google. In fact, a recent report from Strategy Analytics reveals that Apple’s smart speaker during the recent March quarter only accounted for a paltry 6% of the global smart speaker market. In stark contrast, Amazon’s Echo devices garnered an impressive 81.8% share.

The lack of HomePod sales momentum can likely be attributed to two factors. One, Siri on the HomePod is laughably deficient compared to intelligent assistants from Amazon and Google. Moreover, Siri functionality on the HomePod is limited even compared to Siri on the iPhone. Siri squabbles aside, there’s no getting around the fact that the HomePod is simply far more expensive than rival devices. As a prime example, Apple’s HomePod retails for $ 349 while Google Home can be purchased for as little as $ 130.

Blac Chyna claims Rob Kardashian wanted reality show to continue

OHMYGOSSIP — Blac Chyna has claimed that Rob Kardashian asked personally for ‘Rob and Chyna’ not to be cancelled.
The 29-year-old star says her ex-partner – with whom she shares daughter Dream – was keen to continue with the pair’s E! reality show and they were already working on a new season.
Court documents submitted by Chyna claims that the second season of the show began filming in early 2017, despite the paperwork having not been finished.
The lawsuit states: “Reality television thrives on colourful personalities engaging in conflict. If anything, the E! network saw more potential in a second season given the success of season one and the new, unpredictable co-parenting relationship between Chyna and Rob.”
Chyna is currently fighting the Kardashian/Jenner clan in court after claiming they were conspiring to end her television show ‘Rob and Chyna’. Accusing one unspecified member of the family, she claimed they had said “the show is giving this toxic woman money and exposure she lives and breathes for and by continuing it … she will proceed with using and physically abusing my brother”.
Chyna had accused the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ stars of trying to destroy her career and “coming after” her after she split from Rob.
Her court documents stated: “The unwritten rule no one told (her) when she began her relationship with Kardashian is that the entire family will come after you if you leave, using their fame, wealth and power to take you down, including getting your television show cancelled (despite great ratings), spreading lies about you, and even funding a bogus lawsuit about a crumbled gingerbread house.”
Previous court documents filed by Chyna – whose real name is Angela White – accused the entire Kardashian family of interfering with the shooting of the couple’s reality show.
Her filing stated: “Rob Kardashian is an abuser intent on destroying Angela White, the mother of his baby, who left him in 2016. In revenge, the Kardashian-Jenner family became media predators, slut-shaming her on social media and killing her hit television show, which had already begun filming a second season. Rob Kardashian and his powerful, vindictive family have done enough damage to Ms. White’s career and professional reputation, which she singlehandedly built from scratch – without the help of a famous last name. This lawsuit seeks to hold them accountable.”

Lawsuit claims concept for ‘Stranger Things’ was stolen by the Duffer brothers

Stranger Things Lawsuit

Stranger Things — Netflix’s nostalgia-fueled 80s sci-fi drama — is arguably the streaming service’s most iconic and popular program. And while Netflix doesn’t typically disclose which of its programs attract the most viewers, the company earlier this year did reveal that the show remains one of the site’s most binged programs.

One of the more intriguing and impressive things about Stranger Things is that the show seemingly came out of nowhere. Created and developed by Matt and Ross Duffer, the Duffer brothers weren’t exactly household names when the show first launched in July of 2016. Indeed, the notion that two brothers — without many credits to their name — managed to come up with a breakthrough series all on their own quickly became part of the show’s lore.

Charlie Wilson Defends Bruno Mars Against Cultural Appropriation Claims

charlie wilson

With the release of his funk-inspired album, 24K Magic Bruno Mars has been under critique for cultural appropriation. After the chart-topping album became a Grammy smash collecting five awards in 2018 the conversation has intensified. All in spite of Bruno being very vocal about being influenced by Black artists, working with Black musicians, and being a person of color himself.

The conversation was once again brought to the table after Meshell Ndegeocello called out the pop star for making “karaoke” music and mimicking the sounds of Black artists. Many people began to side with Ndegeocello. Others pointed out that Bruno makes genuinely good music and the conversation should be geared towards white supremacy and who is allowed to succeed in the music industry.

R&B crooner Charlie Wilson, however, was one artist who stepped up in support of Bruno Mars’ musical talent. “Just want to join in the convo and stand up for my friend @BrunoMars!,” Wilson tweeted. “For the current haters, I’ll say this: Bruno with this album helped bring back the classic New Jack / R&B sound to the masses when it was left for dead years ago…Bruno’s songs on this album are original and no different than any other artist pulling from genres before him.”

Ryan Seacrest Denies Sexual Abuse Claims From Former Stylist

Ryan Seacrest has denied his former personal stylist’s new claims of sexual abuse, after she came forward publicly to detail his alleged misconduct, following an internal investigation by E! in which her complaint was dismissed.

“I don’t want to accuse anyone of not telling the truth but in this case, I have no choice but to again deny the claims against me, remind people that I was recused of any wrongdoing, and put the matter to rest,” Seacrest said in a statement to TheWrap on Tuesday.

The denial comes after Suzie Hardy, who started working as Seacrest’s personal stylist at E! News in 2006, told Variety on Monday that the TV host had sexually harassed her for years. Hardy’s claims include unwanted, sexually aggressive touching and groping by Seacrest. Hardy claimed she was fired after reporting the alleged sexual abuse to the company’s human resources department in 2013.

The sexual misconduct allegations were originally made public in November by Seacrest, who issued a statement denying the accusations.

“Recently, someone that worked as a wardrobe stylist for me nearly a decade ago at E! News, came forward with a complaint suggesting I behaved inappropriately toward her,” he said at the time. “If I made her feel anything but respected, I am truly sorry. I dispute these reckless allegations and I plan to cooperate with any corporate inquiries that may result.”

Seacrest, who hosts ABC’s Live With Kelly & Ryan, appeared on the show Tuesday but did not mention the new allegations.

E! issued a statement in January saying there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations against Seacrest. The network said Seacrest will continue to host the Oscars’ red carpet pre-show event at the 2018 Academy Awards, and a spokesperson for ABC said the network will still stand by the host.

A Craigslist Ad Claims to Be Selling a SpaceX Rocket for $9.9 Million or ‘Best Offer’

If you’ve thought about buying your own orbital space rocket in the past, only to balk at the massive price tag, today might be your lucky day.

A recently posted Craigslist ad, first spotted this week by USA Today, claims to be selling a “gently used” SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that the seller describes as being in “good condition.” The cost? Just $ 9.9 million, or your “best offer,” which really opens up the possibilities for a motivated buyer keen on private space flight. Keep in mind that a new Falcon 9 rocket reportedly costs around $ 60 million to manufacture, not to mention roughly $ 200,000 to fuel. But the seller also adds that cryptocurrency is accepted.

“Fully loaded with onboard flight computer, launch and landing hardware. Take off and land anywhere!,” reads the Craigslist ad in a nod to SpaceX’s ability to launch and land its Falcon 9 rockets in order to reuse them. The seller also notes that the rocket “says Falcon 9 on the body,” but that “slight burnt paint can be buffed out.”

The ad does not identify the seller (Elon Musk? A rogue SpaceX employee? Or, more likely, an internet prankster?). Fortune sent an email to whomever posted the ad, but we have not yet heard back.

Get Data Sheet, Fortune’s technology newsletter.

Listed for sale under Craigslist’s “heavy equipment” section, the ad for the rocket includes a map that seems to show the rocket’s location is in the Atlantic Ocean just off the eastern coast of Florida. “Must bring own tug boat, no shipping,” the seller writes. The post also includes the location “Port Canaveral,” which is near the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station where SpaceX regularly holds rocket launches.

“Do not lowball, this is an orbital capable autonomous rocket. You will not find another one like it,” the seller writes at the end of the post. “Serious buyers only.”

If the Craigslist ad is a joke, it could be a cheeky nod to the fact that SpaceX is holding the first test launch today for its new rocket, the Falcon Heavy, which has triple the thrust of a Falcon 9 rocket and can therefore carry heavier payloads into orbit.

Billionaire Steve Wynn Resigns as RNC Finance Chair Amid Sexual Harassment Claims

(WASHINGTON) — Billionaire Steve Wynn has stepped down as Republican National Committee finance chair, the RNC’s chairwoman said, a day after reports that the casino magnate had engaged in multiple instances of sexual harassment.

The decision may be a blow to the Republican Party’s fundraising as it gears up for midterm elections in November with an unpopular president as its standard-bearer.

“Today I accepted Steve Wynn’s resignation as Republican National Committee finance chair,” the RNC’s Ronna Romney McDaniel said in a statement. Wynn’s departure was first reported by Politico.

Wynn, the founder of Wynn Resorts Ltd., paid $ 7.5 million to settle claims brought by a former manicurist at his Las Vegas resort who said he pressured her to have sex with him, the Wall Street Journal said Friday. The report contained numerous other allegations of harassment and coercion by other women.

Wynn, who turns 76 on Saturday, denied the allegations. “The idea that I ever assaulted any woman is preposterous,” he said in a statement.

The board of directors of Wynn Resorts met and formed a special committee comprised of independent directors to investigate the allegations, according to a statement issued by the board.

‘Deeply Committed’

“The board is deeply committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all of the company’s employees and to operating with the highest ethical standards,” it said in the statement.

Committee members contacted by Bloomberg said they first learned of the allegations from news reports. One, who asked not to be identified because he wasn’t authorized to speak for the party, said that in his view the Republican Party couldn’t keep Wynn in such a high-profile position given the nature of the accusations.

Under Wynn, the RNC set a fundraising record in 2017 for a non-election year. It ended November with $ 33.5 million more in the bank than its Democratic counterpart, thanks in part to the big donors Wynn can attract.

“Most of the credit for the cash on hand advantage goes to chairwoman McDaniel and her team. But Wynn was certainly a part of the success. He will be hard to replace, especially mid-cycle,” said Dan Eberhart, chief executive officer of oilfield services firm Canary LLC and a Republican fundraiser. “It’s another worry the Republicans don’t need.”

Reaching Women

The allegations come at a delicate time for the party, which needs to maintain its financial edge as it faces a wave of retiring House incumbents and an expensive Senate race in Florida.

The party is also struggling to improve its standing with women after its reputation was bruised last year in Alabama. Roy Moore, the party’s candidate for what had been one of its safest Senate seats, lost after allegations arose that he had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl when he was in his mid-30s and had pursued other teenagers.

Republicans also have to contend with the fact that President Donald Trump, who personally asked Wynn to be the party’s top fundraiser, came under fire in 2016 for a video in which he made lewd comments while taping the television program “Access Hollywood” in 2005. Separately, 19 women have accused the president of sexual misconduct.

Democratic Departures

As powerful men across an array of industries have been accused of harassing and abusing women, both parties have had to deal with misconduct allegations in their ranks. Democrats forced high-profile incumbents, including Senator Al Franken of Minnesota and Representative John Conyers of Michigan, to resign.

Among Republics, Representative Blake Farenthold of Texas decided not to seek re-election after a report surfaced that he used $ 84,000 of taxpayer money to settle a sexual-harassment complaint brought by a former aide.

Harvey Weinstein

Republicans have been critical of Democrats for accepting money from the movie producer Harvey Weinstein, who was a prolific fundraiser for the party as well. In response to the allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein, the RNC’s McDaniel tweeted that returning his money “would be a no-brainer.”

According to the Journal, which said it had contacted more than 150 people who worked with Wynn, he coerced the manicurist and massage therapists to perform sex acts for $ 1,000 tips.

In his statement denying the allegations, Wynn told the Journal that it was “deplorable for anyone to find themselves in this situation.”

The RNC didn’t respond to requests for comment. Michael Weaver, a spokesman for Wynn Resorts, declined to say whether he would remain at the RNC.

Remaining Silent

Democrats were quick to pounce. “They remain silent amid sexual assault allegations involving Steve Wynn, one of their party’s most senior officials,” spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said in a statement. “We believe that women must be empowered and respected.”

Wynn and Trump have a long history. They competed in the Atlantic City casino market two decades ago — a period that included a fierce court battle. They have since made amends, though Wynn has said he didn’t fully embrace Trump until he had already won.

Wynn said Trump asked him to be the committee’s finance chairman before the inauguration. His duties include building a national network of fundraisers and courting major donors, who increasingly have more options amid the rise of outside groups that can raise and spend unlimited sums.

Jennifer Hudson Police Report Details Domestic Violence Claims Against David Otunga: ‘Don’t Have My Son Around Your F*cking Boyfriend’

Now that Jennifer Hudson’s ex-fiancé David Otunga has been cleared of domestic violence charges, her police report has been released and it contains great detail of her allegations.

via TMZ:

She told cops in the early hours of November 16 she and Otunga were arguing over where their son, David Jr., would sleep that night. She said they had been arguing earlier in the evening because he was upset that David Jr. was at a recording studio with her and a producer who David claimed was her new boyfriend. She says David said, “Don’t have my son around your f***ing boyfriend,” adding he would come to the studio to “f*** him up.”

Jennifer — who denies the producer was her boyfriend — claimed during the argument David picked up their son, said “I’m not leaving” and took David Jr. upstairs to a bathroom. She followed and she claims he pushed her with both hands to shove her out of the bathroom. She claims she stumbled backward and yelled for her security guard. The guard says he never heard her call for him.

David has vehemently denied laying a hand on her.

The police report also references an incident in April 2017, in which Jennifer claims she went into their kitchen to find David sitting next to a gun and staring ominously at her. She concedes he told her it was a toy gun and removed it from the house.

Jennifer got a restraining order the day after the bathroom incident forcing David out of the family home. She has since dropped the restraining order and they have struck a temporary custody agreement.

We don’t know what happened in their home, but what we do know is that this incident isn’t outside of the realm of possibility.

Alabama Claims National Title With Overtime Win Against Georgia

(ATLANTA) — Tua Tagovailoa threw a 41-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith to give No. 4 Alabama a 26-23 overtime victory against No. 3 Georgia to win the College Football Playoff national championship Monday night.

Tagovailoa entered the game at halftime, replacing a struggling Jalen Hurts, and threw three touchdown passes, including the game-ender to give the Crimson Tide its fifth national championship since 2009 under coach Nick Saban.

After Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos missed a 36-yard field goal that would have won it for the Tide (13-1) in the final seconds of regulation, Georgia (13-2) took the lead with a 51-yard field goal from Rodrigo Blankenship in overtime.

Tagovailoa took a terrible sack on Alabama’s first play of overtime, losing 16 yards. On the next play he found Smith, another freshman, streaking down the sideline and hit him in stride for the national championship.

This game will be remembered for Saban’s decision to change quarterbacks trailing 13-0.

“I just thought we had to throw the ball, and I felt he could do it better, and he did,” Saban said. “He did a good job, made some plays in the passing game. Just a great win. I’m so happy for Alabama fans. Great for our players. Unbelievable.”

What was he thinking as the winning pass soared?

“I could not believe it,” Saban said. “There’s lots of highs and lows. Last year we lost on the last play of the game and this year we won on the last play of the game. These kids really responded the right way. We said last year, ‘Don’t waste the feeling.’ They sure didn’t, the way they played tonight.”

Saban now has six major poll national championships, including one at LSU, matching the record set by the man who led Alabama’s last dynasty, coach Paul Bear Bryant.

This one was nothing like the others.

The all-Southeastern Conference matchup was all Georgia in the first half before Saban pulled Hurts and went with the five-star recruit from Hawaii to start the second half.

The Tide trailed 13-0 at halftime and 20-7 in the third quarter after Georgia’s freshman quarterback, Jake Fromm, hit Mecole Hardman for an 80-yard touchdown pass that had the Georgia fans feeling good about ending a national title drought that dates back to 1980.

A little less than a year after the Atlanta Falcons blew a 25-point lead and lost in overtime to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, there was more pain for many of the local fans. With the title game being held 70 miles from Georgia’s campus in Athens, Dawg fans packed Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but it turned out to be sweet home for Alabama.

It was not without angst.

Alabama drove into the red zone in the final minute and Saban started playing for a field goal that would end the game and win it for the Tide. A nervous quiet gripped the crowd of 77,430 as ‘Bama burned the clock. With the ball centered in the middle of the field, Pappanastos lined up for a kick to win the national championship. The snap and hold looked fine, but the kicked missed badly to the left.

For the second straight week, Georgia was going to overtime. The Bulldogs beat Oklahoma in a wild Rose Bowl in double overtime to get here, and after Jonathan Ledbetter and Davin Bellamy sacked Tagovailoa for a big loss on the first play, Alabama was in trouble — second-and-26.

Not for long. Tagovailoa looked off the safety threw the biggest touchdown pass in the history of Alabama football.

Jesse Williams Claims Estranged Wife Aryn Drake-Lee Cheated Him Out of Spending Time with Their Kids on Christmas

Jesse Williams wants a judge to modify his custody agreement with his estranged wife after he claims she cheated him out of time with their kids over Christmas.

via TMZ:

Jesse says Aryn Drake-Lee continues to make it difficult for him to maintain a stable relationship with his 4-year-old Sadie and 2-year-old Maceo. In docs, obtained by TMZ, Jesse claims Aryn has not followed the overnight agreement deal they struck back in November.

Jesse says Aryn was stingy about giving him time with the kids on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and she kept them for New Year’s Day, too.

Not only has Aryn been tough on granting Jesse physical time with the kids — he says she only answers one out of about every three FaceTime calls he makes to them, too — and when he is able to talk to them, it’s only for a few minutes.

Jesse now wants a regular schedule with the kids enforced, and custody for 2 weekdays.

We hope they work this out — for the sake of their children.

‘RHOBH’ Recap: Dorit’s Husband Claims Lisa Rinna Is a ‘Schizophrenic’

What happens in Vegas, comes back to Beverly Hills. Dorit Kemsley wasted no time debriefing to her husband, PK, about how she bonded with Erika Girardi during their trip to Sin City. Though Dorit said she still didn’t really want to invite Lisa Rinna to her upcoming birthday party, she didn’t want her to be the only one left out.

Meanwhile, Kyle Richards and her family were busy preparing to leave on their family vacation to Croatia. Kyle couldn’t escape soon enough, as she and her husband were deep in “renovation hell” redoing their home.

Ladies Who Lunch

Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave met with Rinna for lunch. Though Lisa Vanderpump and Dorit had tried to “warn” Teddi about Rinna, Teddi liked her and decided to make her own decisions about which women to befriend. Teddi and Rinna bonded over their alleged rejection of things such as Cartier bracelets. As they bonded over that, Rinna reapplied her makeup. Enough said. Teddi then mentioned that she was inviting several of the women to watch her in a horse jumping competition – more on that later.

Birthday Babies

The eve of Dorit’s birthday dinner arrived and everyone gathered to celebrate. Teddi brought her husband, Edwin. Hosted by Vanderpump and (unofficially) her husband Ken, the party kicked off with martinis. Rinna was happy that she was invited, but was nervous just the same. Also in attendance were Camille Grammer, her girlfriend Kimber, and Erika. There was a surprise guest as well: Jagger, Dorit’s son. “Jagger is my heart and soul,” Dorit said before admitting she also loved her new Birkin bag.

Shortly after arriving at dinner, Jagger called Erika the “bad guy.” Dorit swore to the camera that she never said that. “My son’s very into bad guys and superheroes,” Dorit said. Shortly after that, Rinna decided to make a speech. “We are in a really nice place, so thank you and happy birthday to you,” Rinna said.

Daddy’s Girl … Not So Much

Erika met the man who was collaborating with her on her book. Through their chat, she re-emphasized just how nonexistent her relationship was with her father. “I just knew that whatever I was searching for was not there,” she shrugged. “It is what it is.” The collaborator didn’t seem completely convinced that Erika was as over it as she claimed, but he didn’t push it – at least for now.

Horsing Around

Vanderpump, Rinna, and Dorit arrived to watch Teddi compete at the horse show. Dorit ignored Teddi’s advice and arrived in open-toed shoes, which weren’t great for the dusty grounds – but Dorit liked her look so she wasn’t too worried about it. Teddi rode her trainer’s horse, admitting that having her own horse was too rich for her blood. She completed the course quite smoothly and actually took first place. All of the women were very impressed, especially Vanderpump, who was the only one who seemed to know anything about horses.

Dinner Party for Four

Dorit decided she wanted PK and Edwin to know each other, so she invited them over for an intimate dinner. “My husband loves my cooking,” Dorit bragged to the camera. Yes, she cooked dinner – so she said. They quickly got down to business, with Dorit admitting she had been engaged twice before PK. Then Teddi revealed she and Edwin had struggled through IVF. “You also feel bad, because you feel like you’re failing,” she cried to the camera.

Over dinner, PK warned Teddi and Edwin about their experience with Rinna. “He thinks Lisa Rinna is schizophrenic,” Dorit said. “She’s one person one minute and then another person another minute. She’s rage and regret – rage and regret,” Dorit said. She then basically ragged on Rinna for making a speech during her birthday party.

“I’m confused. You just had this big moment where you’ve forgiven each other,” Teddi said to the camera. “And now you’re at a dinner, talking about it again. That’s not forgiveness, in my opinion.” She is an accountability coach, so that assessment isn’t so surprising.

Hawaii’s John John Florence Claims Back-to-Back WSL Titles at Billabong Pipe Masters

BANZAI PIPELINE, Oahu, Hawaii/USA (Monday, December 18, 2017) – John John Florence (HAW) clinched the 2017 World Surf League (WSL) Title today at the Billabong Pipe Masters, making him the first male surfer since the late Andy Irons (HAW) to successfully defend a maiden world title (Irons was ’02, ’03). Mark Richards (AUS), Tom Carroll (AUS) and Tom Curren (USA) are the only other male surfers to have achieved this feat.

“It’s been my dream to win here at home,” Florence said. “There’s been a nervous build up to this event and I just don’t know what to say, I’m shaking. So many people have been here for me this year and it’s been awesome. It’s been an awesome year and I’m just so stoked.”

Florence’s season started out with strong results during the Australian leg, including his first event win of the year in Margaret River. After two 13th place finishes in Rio and Fiji, Florence steadily improved his results through the remainder of the season. With a 5th place in both Jeffreys Bay and Tahiti, followed by Semifinal berths at Trestles and in France, Florence reclaimed the Jeep Leader Jersey from closest rival Jordy Smith (ZAF).

Challengers Smith, Owen Wright (AUS), Matt Wilkinson (AUS), Filipe Toledo (BRA) and Adriano de Souza (BRA) all suffered early eliminations in Portugal, falling out of reach of the title. Going into the Billabong Pipe Masters, only four surfers remained in contention to clinch the title, but contenders Gabriel Medina (BRA), Julian Wilson (AUS), and Smith weren’t able to deliver the results needed to block Florence at his home break in Hawaii. Florence’s victory was sealed after Medina was eliminated today in the Quarterfinals at the hands of eventual event winner Jeremy Flores (FRA).

“I think I learned a lot about myself this year competing with all the pressure, especially coming from last year’s win,” Florence continued. “It’s been a hard year and I’ve had some ups and some downs, but mostly I had a lot of fun. I think that’s what came out of last year and I really, really wanted to enjoy every moment of it.”

Universally-regarded as one of the best all-around surfers, Florence has diligently worked at improving since qualifying for the elite WSL Championship Tour (CT) in 2011. A seven-year competitor on the CT, the surfer form Hawaii claimed his maiden title in 2016 with an early-season clinch in Portugal, having previously finished in the Top 5 twice before (4th in 2012 and 3rd in 2014). With this second title, the surfing world is eyeing the beginning of a new dynasty in high-performance surfing.

“It’s been scary being that close in points to someone like Gabriel (Medina) who’s such a great surfer out here and a fierce competitor,” said Florence. “His comeback in Europe was amazing, he won two events in a row and then was right there in the title race. Surfing with him out here has been nerve racking but it would have been cool if we had a final for the title.

“I couldn’t have done it without my guys traveling with me and I have to thank my mom for all this because she took me and my brothers traveling when we were young and really just got us to love the ocean and I think that’s what we’re all in this for – the love of surfing – so thank you, mom, I wouldn’t be here without you.”

In addition to cementing his status as the best surfer on the planet, Florence spends his free time and celebrity working toward ocean health initiatives and environmental causes.

Jeremy Flores (FRA) claimed his second Billabong Pipe Masters victory today after defeating Florence in an exciting Final. Flores, the 2010 Pipe Master, took out Kanoa Igarashi (USA) and Gabriel Medina (BRA) en route to the Final against the new WSL Champion. Flores rounds out the year at 15th place on the Jeep Leaderboard to solidify his place on the 2018 CT thanks to today’s victory, his best result of the season and his first CT win since Tahiti in 2015.

“Winning the Pipe Masters against John John Florence like that in perfect Backdoor in the last seconds, that’s the best way to win,” Flores said. “I couldn’t think of any better way to win this Pipe Master. I’m so, so stoked and there’s a lot of emotions. Congrats to everyone. Congrats to John John (Florence) and Gabriel (Medina), these guys are next level. My goal was to win this event but this is crazy, I’m so happy.

“To be honest, I don’t like to be that guy that’s deciding titles – it should be a showdown between John and Gabriel, these guys work so hard,” Flores continued. “That’s why honestly when I beat Gabriel I felt bad. It’s been an emotional day and yesterday was stressful. I had to make one heat to re qualify pretty much and I made it with a 4 and a 2. I just wanted to have fun today and I did and the waves showed up. Through all the ups and downs I have so much good support and this is for everyone so thank you. I won this title for France and it doesn’t happen very much!”

After a slow start to the Final, it was Florence that found the first score of significance with just over twenty minutes remaining with a long barrel that was rewarded with an 8.93. Flores answered with a 7.90 but a relaxed looking world champ was right behind him with a clean tube ride of his own for 7.23 and a solid heat lead. Flores was left searching for an 8.27 in order to claim his second Pipe Masters, but with limited opportunities the clock ran down. In the final seconds the Frenchman found an opportunity and the crowd waited anxiously for the result. The score came in and Flores stole the win from Florence, turning the heat with a thrilling buzzer-beater barrel.

“I almost got a Pipe Masters but I’m super stoked for Jeremy Flores,” Florence said. “That last wave was insane and this whole event has been amazing.”

Florence previously dispatched world title contender Julian Wilson (AUS) (who finished out the year in third place) in the Quarterfinals and then, following news of his title clinching, the new WSL Champion went on to face Ian Gouveia (BRA) in the Semifinals before taking on Flores in the Final.

Gouveia built his scoreline in the Semifinal clash with two mid-range rides while Florence had only small scores. With one minute remaining Florence found the exit from a barrel and then landed an air rotation to steal the win with an 8.73. Gouveia answered seconds later but couldn’t complete the ride and was eliminated in third place.

Kanoa Igarashi (USA) faced eventual winner Flores in the second Semifinal. Igarashi kept busy through the opening half of his heat to hold the top spot but the Frenchman stayed patient and found the wave of the heat for an excellent 9.37. Flores backed it up with a smaller inside wave to move into first position, eliminating Igarashi who takes home a second consecutive Semifinal berth and moves to 17th place on the Jeep Leaderboard.

World title contender Gabriel Medina (BRA) finishes the year in second place on the Jeep Leaderboard with a 5th place finish at the Billabong Pipe Masters after being defeated by Flores in the Quarterfinals.

Medina’s season started out well with a third place finish at the season opener in Australia but a series of less than stellar results saw him slide down the rankings. A third place in South Africa, followed by a runner-up result in Tahiti and then back-to-back wins in Europe saw the young Brazilian rocket up the Jeep Leaderboard and into the world title race. The 23- year-old from Maresias, Sao Paulo became Brazil’s first WSL Champion when he clinched the title in 2014. Medina has been in the World Title race every year since his maiden World Title victory in 2014 (No. 3 on the Jeep Leaderboard in 2015 and 2016).

“2017 was a great year,” said Medina. “I had an injury at the beginning of the year which wasn’t great but I tried to do my best. I had some bad results but I also had some great results. I’m so tired right now because I put everything in the water. I just tried to never give up because there’s always a chance no matter what’s going on. That was a long year and it’s hard to deal with all the ups and downs so it was stressful. That’s all part of the game, you just have to do your best. My goal here was the final but I’m stoked everyone got to watch and I’m coming back for next year.”

11-time WSL Champion Kelly Slater (USA) was dispatched by Medina in Round 4 Heat 3. The Brazilian went all out in the battle against the American with two excellent-range scores, an 8.90 and a near-perfect 9.07. Slater charged into numerous tubes but was not able to escape a majority of his attempts. Stuck needing two new scores to overcome the 2014 WSL Champion, Slater was not able to answer and is eliminated in Equal 9th place.

Freshly qualified for the 2018 CT, Griffin Colapinto (USA), 19, added to his thriving season by taking the 35th Annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing honor today and became the first Californian to ever win the coveted surfing series.

“I’m feeling incredible right now and it’s the best feeling ever,” said Colapinto. “I was just looking at the names that have won the Triple Crown, just all the names on there are insane and to win after John John (Florence) won last year is amazing. It’s been a really fun day watching the contest and to see all the action. John, congratulations on winning the World Title, I’m so stoked for you. And Jeremy winning the Pipe Masters, two times now, that’s insane. Just really excited for next year and for Snapper and I think there will be a lot of energy there and to have my name on a jersey will be special. Thanks so much!”

Colapinto captured a runner up finish at the first Vans Triple Crown jewel, the Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa Ali‘i Beach Park, then went on to final at the second event, the Vans World Cup at Sunset Beach, for a commanding lead on the series. After Italo Ferreira (BRA) went down to Igarashi in the Quarterfinals the young American secured his victory.

NFL Network Suspends Marshall Faulk, 2 Others Over Sexual Harassment Claims

The NFL suspended three analysts on Monday night, including Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk, pending investigation into sexual harassment allegations following a lawsuit from a former employee.

The suit, filed by Jami Cantor, a former wardrobe stylist at the network, details a variety of alleged behaviors including groping, inappropriate comments, and sexually explicit text messages.

The two other suspended analysts were the former players Ike Taylor and Heath Evans. A former executive producer, Eric Weinberger, and another former player, Donovan McNabb, were also named. Neither are still employed by the NFL.

The suit, a copy of which has been uploaded by Deadspin, alleges Faulk groped Cantor’s breasts and behind, and asked her “deeply personal and invasive questions” about her sex life. It also alleges the “aggressive” Faulk invited Cantor to his hotel room, pulled out his genitals in front of her and pinned her to a wall, demanding oral sex.

Taylor allegedly sent Cantor “sexually inappropriate” pictures of himself and a video of him masturbating in the shower.

Weinberger allegedly sent Cantor “several nude pictures of himself and sexually explicit texts.” He is also accused of pressing his crotch against her and asking her to touch him, according to Bloomberg.

A spokesperson from the Bill Simmons Media Group, where Weinberger now works, said he had been placed on indefinite leave, according to the New York Times. “These are very serious and disturbing allegations that we were made aware of today. We are placing Eric on leave indefinitely until we have a better understanding of what transpired during his time at the NFL, and we will conduct our own internal investigation.”

The suit also said Cantor had complained of the harassment to Marc Watts, the NFL’s talent coordinator, who allegedly failed to act, saying: “It’s part of the job when you look the way you do.”

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

ENTERTAINMENT DEAL UPDATE:

Strictly Come Dancing’s Debbie McGee hits back at claims her ballet training gives her an unfair advantage

STRICTLY’S Debbie McGee has hit back furiously at claims she has too much dance experience to be a fair competitor on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 59-year-old former magician’s assistant received 39 points this week and has left some BBC viewers convinced she’s streets ahead of other contestants like Mollie King, Davood Ghadami and Gemma Atkinson.

Debbie danced a Cats-themed American Smooth this week

Debbie, best-known as Paul Daniels’ widower, has now come out swinging at critics who say her intensive ballet training in her youth and performances throughout her showbiz career have given her the edge.

Talking to the Mail On Sunday, the former Mrs Daniels blasted: ‘The people who say that really have no understanding of dance.

“When I did ballet I stopped as a dancer when I was about 23. That training in a way is a disadvantage because the muscles were trained differently.”

She added: “I haven’t done that for over 30 years.”

WARNING: Use of this image is subject to the terms of use of BBC Pictures' Digital Picture

The dancer says she does not have much more experience than the others[/caption]

In the 1970s, Debbie danced with the Iranian National Ballet and established her own company, Ballet Imaginaire – and continued to practice dance when working with husband Paul for decades.

Now Debbie has been tipped as a hot favourite to win the BBC show and she’s currently locked in a bitter rivalry with the equally strong contender Alexandra Burke.

Her American Smooth to Memory from the musical Cats on Saturday night left her at the top of the leaderboard with Alexandra.

But while Debbie acknowledges that she “makes it look so easy”, she wants to emphasise to viewers that it takes hard work – too much hard work, at times.

She went on: “[Viewers] don’t realise the training I put in and how awful I am on Monday and the progress I make between a Monday and a Saturday. You need to ask Giovanni about that.”

Before this weekend’s shows Debbie had a backstage meltdown over how many hours Giovanni Pernice, her pro partner, was making her train.

And she’s been forced to deny there is romance blossoming between her and the younger Italian after she lost her husband Paul last year.

She said: “People want me to be in a relationship with him and I’m really sorry to disappoint them….

Debbie says it’s flattering that fans think she could be romancing Giovanni

“For a woman of my age it’s very flattering that people think there might be a romance. I do have a little chuckle to myself. We have the greatest working partnership and do have chemistry.

“We are great mates and I think that’s probably more special than if there was anything else going on.”

But fans were certainly given more clues that Mollie King is romancing her partner AJ Pritchard this week when she gave him a special gift and appeared to kiss him during their rumba.

R. Kelly Denies Claims Of Mocking Autistic Fans

R. Kelly is being accused of bullying an autistic fan into singing one of his songs, then mocking his performance by accusing him of being high on Percocet.

According to TMZ, Lenny Felix, 27, ran into Kelly outside of a Hollywood nightclub. In video Kelly shot and posted, Felix appeared star struck, and the singer and his crew responded by baiting Lenny into singing, “I Believe I Can Fly.”

Instead of expressing some form of gratitude, Kelly looked into the camera and mockingly sang, “I believe that you high … smoking on that Percocet.” That was followed by a burst of laughter from Kelly’s crew.

Watch below:

Lenny’s family was shocked and feel he was victimized, telling TMZ that Lenny’s reaction to the footage was, “I don’t want him to think I’m dumb. Do you think he was making fun of me?”

His mother is heartbroken, and says the family has met with an attorney, according to TMZ.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s camp removed the video of Lenny from his social media and the singer has since posted a video saying the allegations of him “making fun of people with autism” are “not true.”

He says he and his crew were “tipsy” when they ran into Lenny at about 2 a.m. outside of the club, “coming up to me like a fan.”

“He didn’t look like he had autism to me at all. I apologize to him if he did,” Kelly said.

BEST DEAL UPDATE:

Most Student Loan Fraud Claims Involve For-Profits

23670631

WASHINGTON (AP) — Students who attended for-profit colleges filed more than 98 percent of the requests for student loan forgiveness alleging fraud by their schools, according to an analysis of Education Department data published Thursday.

The study by The Century Foundation represents the most thorough analysis to date of the nearly 100,000 loan forgiveness claims known as borrower defense received by the agency over the past two decades and paints an alarming picture of the state of for-profit higher education in America. The study was provided to The Associated Press ahead of publication.

The report comes as Education Secretary Betsy DeVos faces criticism for erasing two Obama-era regulations that would have added protections for students. Review of tens of thousands of claims has stalled and the AP reported last month that the department now is considering abandoning the practice of full loan cancellation in favor of partial forgiveness. Student advocates point to the Trump administration’s ties to the for-profit industry and accuse DeVos of putting industry over students.

The study found “a disproportionate concentration of predatory behavior among for-profit colleges” that raises “serious concerns about the federal government’s current approach to providing relief to students who have been defrauded and misled.”

The Education Department did not respond to a request for comment.

Of the more than 98,800 complaints received by the department as of mid-August, 98.6 percent came from students at for-profit schools, while only 1.4 percent of them were filed by those who attended non-profit institutions. For-profit schools account for only

10 percent of national enrollment and 18 percent of federal student debt, according to government data.

More than 75,000, or 76 percent, of claims came from students who attended the now-shuttered Corinthian schools, followed by more than 7,300 students from the ITT Technical Institute chain, as well as students from American Career Institute, the Education

Management Corporation and others. The Century Foundation received the data through a Freedom of Information Act request.

“The for-profit college industry scams students across the country and taxpayers and that’s why the industry, including industry insiders who are now staffing the Department of Education, is now fighting so hard against rules that would clarify the borrower defense process,” said Toby Merrill, director of the Project on Predatory Student Lending at Harvard University, a legal services clinic that represents defrauded students. “If for-profit schools don’t want to be responsible for borrower defense claims and reimbursing taxpayers, then they could simply not cheat their students.”

Steve Gunderson, president of Career Education Colleges and Universities, the industry lobbying group, dismissed the report as an attack on the industry. He suggested that the Obama administration was to blame for the influx of borrower-defense claims from for-profit college students.

“It doesn’t surprise me that the Century Foundation issued a report suggesting for-profit colleges are to blame for borrower defense claims. Look no further than the Obama Administration’s destruction of ITT Tech and Corinthian,” Gunderson told the AP in a statement. “This report confirms what we’ve long known: There are dozens of groups coordinating their efforts to destroy our sector.”

For-profit colleges expanded dramatically over the past two decades, with enrollment rising from around 230,000 in the early 1990s to a record 2 million in 2010. They recruited aggressively, targeting non-traditional students — usually older people who had jobs and could only study part-time. They also focused heavily on women, people of color and veterans. But after graduating, many students struggled to find jobs that were promised to them or to transfer credits to other schools, leading to massive student loan defaults. A 2010 government study found that all of the 15 for-profit colleges evaluated by undercover agents made deceptive statements to prospective students and four of them encouraged fraudulent practices.

The Obama administration cracked down hard on for-profit colleges, pressuring Corinthian and ITT to close and approved at least $ 655 million in loan cancellations from those chains in recent years. At the same time, the administration also passed revisions to the borrower defense regulation and to another similar rule, known as gainful employment, with the aim of increasing students’ protections.

DeVos moved to dismantle or stall those provisions. There’s now a backlog of 87,000 complaints that haven’t been ruled on. DeVos said she intends to fight fraud, but believes the Obama revisions were written too broadly and could allow for unsubstantiated claims.

In an interview with Politico published last week, DeVos suggested there was no substantial difference between for-profit and non-profit schools. “Let’s be clear, it’s for-profit or not-for-profit is simply a matter of tax status — fraud anywhere needs to be rooted out,” she told the publication.

But Tariq Habash, one of the authors of the Century report, said the study offers evidence to the contrary.

“This highlights a clear difference between for-profits and non-profits. It’s not just the tax statuses. It’s the control structure that governs these entities,” Habash said.

For-profits, he said, “are financially motivated to maximize their profits, they have conflicting interests and one will always win over the other.”

Dean McDermott not paying child support, ex claims

OHMYGOSSIP — Dean McDermott’s ex-wife says he has stopped paying child support for their 18-year-old son.
The 50-year-old actor’s former spouse Mary Jo Eustace has claimed that he has ceased payment to her for their son Jack but continues to flaunt his luxurious lifestyle on social media.
In court papers filed last week, she wrote: “Dean has stopped paying again. In the last six weeks he has been on two luxurious vacations, Iceland & the four seasons in Punta Mita. He resides in a $ 2 million estate paid by his mother-in-law, Candy Spelling, and has no impetus to work. He owes over $ 100,000 moving forward, and I believe he has no intention of paying. He bounces my son’s university rent/tuition and is delinquent in paying therapist bills, while he shops visibly and throws lavish parties for his other five children.”
Dean was married to Jo between 1993 and 2006 before tying the knot with ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ actress Tori Spelling later that year.
McDermott and Eustace had been in court as recently as March 2017, when Eustace filed a contempt of court charge against him after claiming she owes him $ 100,000 in child support.
She said at the time: “[He owes me] over $ 100,000. He just stopped paying two years ago for our original support, and he didn’t pay child support.”
It comes after Tori revealed she and Dean felt like their relationship was reborn when they became parents to their fifth child.
She shared: “We worked on everything. The relationship as we knew it died. We had to bury that and start new.
“Rebuilding our marriage took time. And now, having a new baby, it makes sense. It’s like a new baby in a new relationship.”
Dean is also a father to Liam, 10, Stella, nine, Hattie, six, Finn, five, and seven-month-old Beau, who he has with his wife Tori.

Look At God! Retired Man Claims $24 Million Winning Lottery Ticket Two Days Before It Was Set to Expire

A retired security guard won a $ 24.1 million New York lottery jackpot that he was lucky enough to claim just TWO DAYS before his ticket expired.

via NYDN:

Jimmie Smith, 68, told the gaming commission he’s been buying lottery tickets in New York and his native New Jersey since the 1960s — but the one time he actually won, he didn’t even realize.

Smith’s identity was released by New York LOTTO this week.

His $ 24.1 million jackpot from May 2016 sat idle for nearly a year before the East Orange, N.J., resident picked it up.

But he almost didn’t get it at all after sticking it in an old shirt pocket with “a stack” of unchecked, losing tickets, New York’s gaming commission said in a press release.

“I always told myself, ‘I’ll check them when I have the time,’” Smith told the commission.

He figured it was time to check after seeing a news report about the jackpot’s pending expiration as the one-year .

That’s when he dug out the May 2016 ticket featuring the winning numbers: 5 – 12 – 13 – 22 – 25 – 35.

“I stood there for a minute thinking, ‘Do I see what I think I see?’ I had to stick my head out the window and breathe in some fresh air,” the father of two and grandfather of 12 told the gaming commission. “I was in serious doubt. I really had to convince myself this was real.”

Nearly a year earlier, he bought the winning ticket in Tribeca at Renu Corp Grocery & Tobacco at 158 Church St. between Chambers and Reade Streets.

“I don’t remember who it was,” said owner Bobby Patel told the Daily News in May when the winner was announced. “I didn’t see the face or anything.”

Smith’s identity wasn’t released at the time — nor why it took him a year.

He elected to be paid out over a 26-year period, according to the gaming commission.

Smith plans to have an “all-family” meeting to discuss how the money will be split up, according to the gaming commission.

The universe was definitely on his side with this one!

Coco Ho Claims QS6,000 at the 2017 Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro

WSL PRESS RELEASE

PLAYA DE PANTIN, Galicia – Spain (Saturday, September 2, 2017) – The Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro culminated today with the victory of Coco Ho (HAW), 26, over Caroline Marks (USA), 15, in two-to-three foot surf.
Despite a near-disappearing act from the waves, the women’s final day was full of surprises and crowned the 2017 Champion in front of huge crowds enjoying the show from the iconic Pantin headland.

In the final, Caroline Marks was quick to take action and post a decent 6.17 in the opening minutes of the bout. Coco Ho had a slower start but after a few exchanges, found herself with priority when the first real wave of the final approached.

Starting on her backhand, the Hawaiian locked in two excellent turns right in the lip for an 8.83 and the lead. While Marks had a hard time keeping her composure under pressure, Coco continued to exploit the right sections and posted a 7.67 to put her opponent in a combination situation, and eventually take out the 2017 Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro. After the Pro Anglet last week, Coco Ho continued on her roll and signed back-to-back wins, adding an important 6,000 points to her 2017 QS tally.

“It’s been amazing to be back in Pantin, I can never believe how beautiful this place is,” Ho stated. “The waves have been really fun this week, and I’m stoked it’s my third time back and I finally got a good result! From the water it was insane to see so many people, so thank’s everyone for coming to support us.”

At only 15 years old, Caroline Marks claims a career-best runner-up at this level of competition, but it comes as no surprise as her season attests of the talent the Floridian-born surfer has shown. With another couple of big results under her belt, she has one foot anchored in the QS Top 6 and a potential seat on the 2018 Championship Tour roster.

“It’s been such an incredible week, I’m so blessed and grateful of my whole support crew,” Marks said. “I wasn’t really thinking about points, I’m really just trying to have fun surfing, but it’s really exciting. I’m simply just going to try my hardest in the next QS event and whatever happens, happens. I have a few trips between now and the Sally event so I’m going to keep on living the dream right now.”

In a wave-starved opening semifinal, Bronte Macaulay (AUS), 23, tried to keep busy and surfed three average waves to build a low-scoring heat total of 9.60. It seemed like the right option considering her opponent did not have a score on the board halfway through the heat, but Marks came back in the heat with a solid 7 point ride. The american only needed a minor score which she easily got in the dying moments of the heat, forcing Macaulay out in equal third place in Pantin.

“It was a tricky heat with not many waves and Caroline got the one set that came through,” Macaulay said. “It was one of those heats you wish you’d done differently, but I’m super happy to have a heat against her, she’s such an awesome person and has been ripping all event!”

The second semifinal unfortunately suffered the same swell-plague as Ho and Silvana Lima (BRA), 32, battled for the second spot in the final. This time, the patient approach of Lima did not pay off and it was Ho’s average scoreboard that was enough for the win. The Brazilian, who posted an incredible 18.66 total in the quarters did not get an opportunity to showcase her radical brand of surfing and bowed out in equal third place.

“I always have good results here in Pantin and I love coming back!” she said. “This result is great for the points, I feel a lot more comfortable now to re-qualify for next year. ”

The next call in Pantin will convene the men at 9 a.m Sunday for the finals.

Women face pay inequality and have no path for advancement at Google, lawsuit claims

TwitterFacebook

Three women who say they faced discrimination in salary and promotions at Google are hoping to turn their experiences into a class-action lawsuit.

A trio of former Google employees filed a lawsuit against the tech giant on Thursday that alleges that the company systematically paid women less for the same work and denied them opportunities for advancement, the Guardian reported

“Google has discriminated and continues to discriminate against its female employees by systematically paying them lower compensation than Google pays to male employees performing substantially similar work under similar working conditions,” the lawsuit says.  Read more…
