Pizza Hut Expands Beer Delivery Experiment

Pizza Hut is expanding a test of delivering beer to more than 100 locations in Arizona and California as the fast-food chain and its parent company Yum Brands look for new ways to fight off rival Domino’s Pizza.

Pizza Hut launched a test beer-delivery program in December at one downtown Phoenix location. Beginning Tuesday, the company expanded that beer service to other restaurants in Phoenix, Tucson and Glendale, Arizona as well as six California cities: Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Riverside, Sacramento, Santa Barbara and Santa Clara. Three more California cities–Anaheim, Huntington Beach and Redding–will be added later this month.

The company is also expanding beyond its beer partnership with Anheuser-Busch. Pizza Hut said it has added MillerCoors as a partner.

The beer delivery option will likely expand further. Pizza Hut has 6,300 stores in the U.S. and 1,700 of them already have liquor licenses, a spokeswoman told Fortune in December.

Pizza Hut said in July it planned to hire more than 14,000 workers by the end of 2017 to speed up deliveries for customers. The pizza chain also plans to introduce a new delivery algorithm and online mapping to make the delivery system more efficient. Yum Brands said in July it would spend $ 130 million to upgrade equipment, boost advertising, and improve technology in restaurants.

Walmart’s home grocery delivery is being expanded to 100 cities

After dipping its toe in the waters of grocery delivery back in 2016, Walmart is now ready to go all-in.

The nation’s largest retailer brings same-day home delivery of groceries to 100 cities from coast to coast in 2018.

RELATED: Walmart’s latest experiment: Higher prices online than in stores

Walmart ready to ramp up grocery delivery

Walmart’s effort to expand its grocery delivery service will give more than 40% of U.S. households access to this time-saving option.

At the moment, grocery delivery from Walmart is only active in six markets — Dallas, Denver, Orlando, Phoenix, San Jose and Tampa.

By year’s end, that will completely change.

Walmart has more than 18,000 personal shoppers ready to pull your order, and thousands more will be onboarded this year as the program ramps up.

When the program is up and fully running around the nation, the grocery delivery will take place from more than 800 stores.

And if you’re the kind of person who worries about somebody picking out your produce or meats, Walmart has an answer for you.

The company says it puts all personal shoppers through a thorough three-week training program. The focus of the training is on how to select the freshest produce and choicest cuts of meat for online grocery delivery customers.

Actual delivery of your order will be outsourced to third-party delivery companies like Uber and Deliv, which Walmart currently uses in its six test markets.

The grocery delivery fee will be $ 9.95 — with a requirement of a $ 30 minimum order. But you can get your first order delivered free with promo code FRESHCAR, according to Walmart.

Groceries can be ordered online at Walmart.com/grocery or on the existing Walmart Grocery App.

Two benefits to Walmart’s plan

Now, you might balk at paying nearly ten bucks to have somebody deliver your groceries but there are actually two upsides here.

First, you get access to Walmart’s low grocery prices without the hassle of shopping in a crowded store.

And when you consider that Walmart scored dead last in the newly announced American Customer Satisfaction Index, that’s a good thing, in this case. You can enjoy the savings while skipping what a lot of U.S. consumers think of as an unsatisfactory shopping experience.

The second upside is that the company says the prices of groceries through the online delivery program will be the same as in stores.

That’s big, considering Walmart recently launched a new effort to price items higher online than they are in stores:

Walmart Irish Spring soap

Thankfully, you won’t have to put up with any of that price bifurcation when you’re an online grocery delivery customer!

Amazon To Roll Out Delivery At Whole Foods

NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon delivery is coming to Whole Foods.

The online retailing giant plans to roll out two-hour delivery at the organic grocer this year to those who pay for Amazon’s $ 99-a-year Prime membership.

The move is the latest by Amazon to put its stamp on its recent purchase of Whole Foods. Amazon has cut prices on bananas, yogurt and other items, and began selling Kindle e-readers in some of its 470 stores.

Since Amazon bought Whole Foods last year, rival grocers have been working to increase delivery, worried about what Amazon might do. Target, for example, bought grocery-delivery company Shipt. Others have partnered with Instacart.

Amazon said deliveries will start Thursday in Austin, Texas; Cincinnati; Dallas; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. The service will be nationwide this year, the company said.

Shoppers will be able to order meat, seafood and other grocery items through Amazon’s Prime Now app and website.
Amazon.com Inc., based in Seattle, said there’s no extra fee for two-hour deliveries above $ 35, but one-hour delivery will cost $ 8.

Ford, Postmates to Test How Self-Driving Cars Could Change Delivery

LAS VEGAS–Ford has been ramping up its self-driving vehicle program in the past year from its $ 1 billion investment in Argo AI to its pilot with Domino’s Pizza. Now it’s locked in Postmates to conduct pilot programs to learn how self-driving vehicle technology can change the delivery experience and help retailers reach new customers.

In the pilot program, a self-driving vehicle could deliver the goods when consumers use Postmates to place an order. Ford plans to study both what the merchant experience needs to be at the point of delivery and what the customer experience needs to be at that same point.

The pilot program with Postmates was just one of several announcements Ford CEO Jim Hackett made Tuesday during his speech at CES, the annual tech trade show in Las Vegas. But it’s notable because it ties into a much larger Ford vision and strategy to create an ecosystem of communication and services that future cities loaded with autonomous vehicles might need. Ford also announced an open cloud-based platform for cities to use to orchestrate and manage all the disparate transportation modes happening at any given time as well as a partnership with Qualcomm for Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything, or C-V2X, a wonky term that basically means everything in the city such as stoplights, signs and even bikes can speak to each other and share information.

Ford also announced a new partnership platform that would let companies like Domino’s Pizza, Lyft, and now Postmates connect to the automaker’s future fleet of self-driving vehicles.

This “will help us validate our self-driving business model by working with partners and reaching out to different communities and stakeholders to understand their needs, as well as how they can benefit from autonomous vehicles,” wrote Ford executive Jim Farley in a blog post that coincided with the onstage announcement.

These pilots might seem, at first glance, as a marketing ploy. But Farley says Ford has already learned a lot about how people interact with the self-driving Domino’s cars. For instance, in the summer people would often be barefoot and not keen to walk in the hot street to grab their pizza, he told Fortune during CES.

“Like us, Postmates is on a mission to help people unlock the best of their cities,” wrote Sherif Marakby, Ford’s vice president of autonomous vehicles and electrification, in a blog post on Tuesday, “with a focus on creating a reliable on-demand delivery network–one that gives consumers better access to the goods they need.”

Target To Acquire Shipt for $550 Million to Speed Up Same-Day Delivery

Target

tgt

is buying tech start-up Shipt in a bid to become a much more serious contender in the same-day delivery wars.

The discount retailer, looking to better compete with Walmart

wmt

and Amazon.com

amzn

, said on Wednesday it was paying $ 550 million in cash for Shipt in its biggest acquisition in recent history. As a result, it plans to offer same-day delivery at about half of its 1,800 stores by summer ahead of a roll-out to nearly the entirely fleet by next year’s Christmas season.

Shipt, which will become a wholly-owned Target subsidiary that will continue to do and solicit business from other retailers, works with chains such as Kroger

kr

and Costco Wholesale

cost

by making the specific items at any given store available online.

When customers place an order on Shipt’s marketplace, the service sends one of its 20,000 “shoppers” to the store to grab the items and then deliver them. Shipt, founded in 2014 in Alabama, charges $ 99 a year for unlimited deliveries.

The move marks an ramping up of Target’s efforts to speed up delivery. Just more than three months ago, Target said it was buying Grand Junction, a San Francisco-based startup that connects retailers and other distributors to a network of more than 700 carriers across North America.

With Walmart rolling out grocery pickup at many more stores and looking at same-day delivery, and Amazon making similar moves with more expected in the wake of its acquisition of Whole Foods this year, Target has no choice but to pick up the pace. What’s more, Target wants to sustain the growth of its online business, which grew 24% last quarter.

“We believe we will be able to leap several years ahead, significantly accelerating our nationwide delivery,” John Mulligan, Target’s operations chief, told reporters on a conference call. That means going from a matter of days to a matter of hours, he said, something customers increasingly expect. Target has already been piloting same-day service at its TriBeCa store in Manhattan, an effort led by Grand Junction.

As for Shipt, the deal will make it a much bigger player in the delivery wars and likely begin to narrow the gap with much bigger rival Instacart, with which Target currently partners. (Mulligan said Target hadn’t alerted Instacart ahead of the Shipt announcement and that no decision about that partnership could be announced.)

Shipt, whose management team will remain in place and will operate independently in its hometown of Birmingham, Ala., now serves 70 U.S. markets, compared to 30 a year ago. The company recently told Bloomberg News it also expects revenue to hit the $ 1 billion milestone, according to the news agency. Mulligan told reporters Shipt would continue to be able to serve Target competitors because its business model requires a certain critical mass to work, and therefore to be viable for Target, too.

Initially, Target will offer same-day delivery of groceries, essentials, home, electronics and other products, and by two years from now, the service will encompass all major product categories at Target. The company said the deal, expected to close by year-end, won’t affect its financial results in the short term, but would spur online growth a bit further out.

Amazon delivery late again? Use this sample email to request compensation

All year long, Clark.com’s Michael Timmermann is sharing quick and easy ways to save money as part of our Michael Saves series. Check in every Monday as he puts new and familiar savings strategies to the test. Sign up for our newsletter to have these stories delivered to your inbox!

Amazon promises its Prime members free two-day shipping on millions of items, but what happens when your package is delivered late? It’s definitely a possibility during the busy holiday season.

I learned a few weeks ago that Amazon may compensate customers when it doesn’t make its guaranteed delivery date.

RELATED: Secret Amazon Prime perk you probably don’t know about

Amazon delivery late? Here’s what you can get for free!

For example, I contacted Amazon’s customer service department about a package that showed up late and received a free month extension of my Prime benefits — just by asking politely!

When I posted my story to Clark’s Facebook page, some people said this tip also worked for them!

  • Mandee: I emailed about a late package yesterday and they refunded my money and told me to keep the package when it arrived.
  • Laurel: We have had it happen so many times they gave us a $ 40 credit on our account and extended our Prime.
  • Lori:  I tried today, they gave me a $ 10 credit to shop with.
  • Derek: I just tried this with a delayed shipping. I got something better than a free month extension. They refunded me 30% of my entire order.

How to contact Amazon about a late delivery

To reach out to Amazon about a late delivery, the first thing you need to do is visit the Contact Us page.

Below the list of your recent orders, Amazon will ask for more details about your issue. In this case, you would select “Where’s my stuff?” and “Shipment is late.”

You’ll then be given the choice to contact Amazon via email, phone or live chat.

Sample email to request compensation from Amazon

Amazon doesn’t provide compensation for all late deliveries, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Here’s a sample email that’s nearly identical to the one that worked for me:

Dear Amazon,

I am writing about a late package delivery. I read that Amazon may compensate customers in these cases. Is there anything that you can do to make up for the inconvenience this has caused me?

Thanks in advance,

Loyal Amazon customer

ASOS is launching same day delivery and we’re thrilled

It’s about time…

asos same day delivery

We’d be hard pushed to find someone who isn’t an ASOS fan, with the e-commerce site catering for all – offering beauty products, accessories, clothes and shoes from a variety of labels – all delivered straight to our doorsteps. Honestly – what’s not to love?

In fact, there’s no greater thrill than the familiar sound of that trademark monochrome package falling through the letter box.

There’s just one problem – with the shop being limited to site-form, you have to plan ahead and order at least a day in advance to get your package in time, so if you’re a last minute kind of person and are looking for an outfit for that night (whether it’s a wedding guest outfit or party dress), ASOS won’t make the cut.

That is until now – ASOS has just launched its same-day delivery service.

Yes, you read that correctly – as of today, ASOS is offering same-day delivery, allowing us to get our shopping a whole lot quicker – and we’re thrilled.

Now it’s possible to browse the site in the morning, order an outfit and receive your ASOS goodies by that same evening, allowing last-minute shopping without even having to leave the house.

However there is a catch – the same-day delivery service isn’t nationwide just yet, with the setting still currently in its trial stage, available only in London. But if you’re outside the London zone, don’t sweat – there are plans to roll out same day delivery to other major UK cities in the coming months.

If you do have a London post code – you just need to place your order before 10am from Sunday to Friday, and pay £12.95 and voila – your ASOS delivery will be coming your way between 6 and 10pm that evening!

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to buy some clothes for this evening…

My Labor and Delivery Story

Here’s my story…

This story is about the birth of my youngest child way back in the early 90’s. It was chaos from the very first moment. Months of morning sickness and heartburn, weird cravings and more and more morning sickness, In the beginning, I was losing weight instead of gaining because I was sick all of the time. I went to my very first ultrasound with my fingers crossed for a girl and my husband rooting for a boy.

They smeared that lovely jelly on my stomach and said, “Congratulations! You’re having a boy!” and then proceeded to print me a picture of lovely boy parts. I was devastated. I wanted a girl, I have 4 brothers, 1 son and a husband. I needed some girl power desperately. When my due date came and went in the middle of the hottest part of the year I was seriously considering self-delivery. Finally, the Dr. sent me for another ultrasound two weeks after my due date.

So back up on the table, more of that lovely jelly, and imagine my surprise when not only was my baby breech, but he had turned into a girl!!! The first ultrasound had obviously been a mistake and I couldn’t have been happier. My husband not so much. I heard his gasp of breath, then him hyperventilating. The technician asked my husband if he was alright or if she needed to call a Dr. “You promised us a boy!” he said. “Sorry, no refunds or exchanges,” she said.

A C-section was scheduled for the very next morning and we were off to switch all of our football and baseball paraphernalia for ballerinas and baby dolls. All the blues and browns for pinks and purples. I was so happy, and my husband pouted the whole day.

My C-section was scheduled for 7 a.m. We spent some time with our son before leaving him with my family for the duration and went to bed early. I awoke at 3 a.m. in full labor so after a mad dash to the hospital it was time to get the show on the road.

They took my husband one way to be fitted into his gear. Which he managed to put on both upside down and inside out. They took me another way for the epidural and operating room. My arms were tied down and that was just the beginning of my terror. I finally heard the clump, clump, clump of my husband’s boots as he entered the room where we would welcome our little girl.

To say I was scared was a major understatement, I was petrified! My husband was rubbing my hand while whispering encouragement into my ear as they got started. Very early on I started to notice that the grip on my hand was getting stronger and stronger. It had moved over into bone crushing.

I raised my head to tell him he was hurting me when I saw the problem immediately. I looked up expecting to see the beautiful blue of his eyes and saw only the whites as the blue had already rolled upwards. I saw the sweat running rivers down both sides of his face as he held my hand in his death grip. I tried to scream for help, but he was much faster. He started going backward almost immediately. It was much too late for help.

He fell straight back and instead of hitting the ground like you would expect, he hit the anesthesiologist right between the eyes with the back of his head. They were both seeing stars, but the man responsible for giving me drugs was bleeding profusely from his nose while falling backward himself. He didn’t hit the ground either. Instead, he hit the machine that was controlling all of my IV’s and medication. It rolled noisily across the room slamming into the wall while ripping the IV’s right out of my arm. No more monitoring and more importantly No. More. Drugs!

Within seconds, a replacement anesthesiologist arrived to reattach the good stuff while a group of 4 men ran in to get the now unconscious husband into a wheelchair and out the door. In the middle of all of the craziness our sweet little girl arrived… and was immediately whisked out into the hallway to meet her father! He wanted more children… and that would be a definite no!

Brand Management Concept for a Delivery Service

Brand Management Concept for a Delivery Service

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL – Marketing, Unternehmenskommunikation, CRM, Marktforschung, Social Media, Note: 1,0, Veranstaltung: Strategic Brand Management, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper conveys the branding process of a food delivery service based in the city of Barcelona; named Barcelona Eats (BE). Core of the business is being the link between restaurants who did not have a delivery service before and hungry customers, who can place their order on BE s website. The first chapter provides a detailed business description and analyses the competitive situation of delivery services in Barcelona. In addition the brand associations are visually explained by using hierarchical value mapping. As there is now a general understanding for the brand and its values, the second chapter relates to the marketing program of BE. First, the key brand elements are defined: the brand name, the URL and the logo. Subsequently the target markets are outlined and implications for customer care are specified. Given the fact that BE will have to advertise in two ways, towards restaurant owners (B2B) and targeting the end consumer (B2C), the following chapter addresses the marketing measures for those two groups and shows where individuals may be reached with which marketing tool. Lastly, BE s pricing concept will be introduced and brief information on other brand-related associations is provided. The third chapter relates to the strategic success of the brand. The use of brand audit to steadily reassess the brands performance and customer perception is explained; furthermore the theory is linked with practical implications. Finally, suggestions for business expansion are described, namely internal diversification or external growth, first to other cities within Spain, then to other European countries.
