Grace Wardle and Frankie Foster have been axed from ‘Love Island’ – as two new Islanders entered the villa

OHMYGOSSIP — Grace Wardle and Frankie Foster have been axed from ‘Love Island’ – as two new Islanders entered the villa. The 25-year-old hairdresser and the 22-year-old student were dumped from the famous villa during Monday’s (09.07.18) episode of the ITV2 reality show, after they failed to secure the public’s vote for favourite girl and favourite boy currently on the show.

Islanders were sent a text message during the show telling them the public had been voting for their favourites, before revealing the bottom three girls as Megan, Ellie, and Grace, and the boys as Frankie, Charlie, and Josh.

Another text then revealed that Grace and Frankie had received the fewest votes, and would therefore be going home. But despite being prematurely dumped from the show, hairdresser Grace is “feeling positive” about her experience in the villa. When asked in her post-exit interview how she feels following her eviction, she said: “I’m feeling positive. I feel like I’ve had an amazing experience. I was overwhelmed to even make it into the main villa from Casa Amor so I feel privileged that I’ve had the best of both, that I experienced Casa Amor and that I experienced going into the main villa.”

The beauty was “shocked” at the news of the surprise dumping, but admits she wasn’t surprised to find herself in the bottom three. She added: “I think that we were all very shocked when the text came into the villa that there was going to be a dumping. I don’t think it was a shock that myself, Megan and Ellie were announced as being the public’s bottom three girls in the villa. I think people were more shocked that Frankie left and are more upset about that, for Samira’s sake. It is unfortunate that the first guy Samira gelled with in five weeks has gone.”

However, fans won’t have much time to mourn Grace and Frankie’s eviction, as it was also announced during Monday’s show that two new boys are on their way to the villa. Kieran Nicholls, a 26-year-old personal trainer, and Idris Virgo, a 25-year-old boxer, will join the remaining contestants this week, and are set to cause drama as both boys have their eye on Kaz, who is already coupled up with Josh.

Idris said: “I’ve got my eye on Kaz, Georgia and Samira. I know some of the girls are coupled up, like Kaz with Josh, so it would be a challenge with her but I’ll find a way of stealing Kaz because she is my type. I don’t mind stepping on people’s toes.”

Whilst Kieran added: “I’ve got my eye on Kaz in terms of looks and personality. She has her head screwed on and she knows where she wants to be and that’s a trait I look for. Megan is also pretty hot. Maybe she might meet someone like me who will tame her.”

The American idol alum, 34, revealed via Instagram on Tuesday, July 3, that 68-year-old Foster asked for her hand in marriage “at the top of this mountain in Anacapri” during the couple’s romantic rendezvous in Italy.

McPhee noted that it was “totally dark” when Foster proposed and they could only see the stars. “Thankfully he didn’t push me off the cliff,” she teased. “He said it was one or the other, And in the end he spared me.”

The Scorpion star also posted an Instagram photo of herself lounging on a yacht while drinking a cup of coffee and sporting her giant new sparkler.

Us Weekly confirmed earlier on Tuesday that the A-list couple got engaged during their vacation in Italy. They first sparked romance rumors in May 2017 when they were seen cuddling up in Malibu. Since then, they’ve been spotted together all around the world and made their red carpet debut at the 2018 Met Gala in May.

“When Kat talks about David, her face lights up. She’s really so happy,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of the couple in November 2017. “They’re actually so cute together. They aren’t hiding it anymore … David is really charming. The age difference might seem substantial to some, but they are really cute together and it makes sense.”

McPhee was previously married to Nick Cokas from 2008 to 2016. Meanwhile, Foster was married to singer B.J. Cook from 1972 to 1981, Rebecca Dyer from 1982 to 1986, Linda Thompson from 1991 to 2005 and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid from 2011 to May 2017.

You Don’t Have to Spend a Fortune to Foster Mindfulness at Home

Are you the type of person who likes to dream about all the fancy ways you’d upgrade your home if you suddenly came into millions of dollars?

I sure am. I’d redo my entire kitchen and build walk-in bedroom closets even if it meant putting an addition on the house.

You know what’s never occurred to me, though? Putting a reflecting pool in the backyard or stringing up a hammock in my own open-air yoga studio.

But those are some of the things Jeny Mathis built into her Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, house in her quest for circumspection and tranquility.

“When you build and design a house, you can design it in a way to cultivate mindfulness,” Mathis told The Wall Street Journal.

Mathis isn’t an outlier in the mindful-housing trend. According to The Wall Street Journal, architects are building similar spaces into luxury homes across the country.

For instance, the article also mentions a group of “wellness residences” under construction in Palm Beach, Florida, that include showers infused with Vitamin C, heated reflexology floors and more.

Other luxury homes around the country come equipped with perks like a meditation studio, bird sanctuary or massage room.

Those are cool amenities if you can afford them, but they’re vastly outside of my meager home- improvement budget.

Of course, if you’re a regular reader of The Penny Hoarder, you know we like to find ways to pamper ourselves and practice mindfulness without emptying our bank accounts in the process.

If you enjoy living like royalty on a provincial budget, give these relaxation and mindfulness ideas a try.

  • Vitamin C-infused shower heads can cost upwards of $ 100. For that amount of money, I expect it to be made out of hand-forged metal collected from a tiny mining village in the Alps. I’d rather make my own bath bombs for less than seven bucks and climb into the tub.
  • Meditation studios and massage rooms are cool and all, but why spend good money to build space in your house for something you’ll only use once or twice a day? A pair of earbuds and a relaxing adult coloring book will set you back only about $ 20. Take them into your closet, sit on the floor and you’ve got yourself a sensory-deprivation chamber — only less wet.
  • Fashion your own relaxation grotto for a whole lot less than it costs to hire an interior designer to create an expensive in-home spa. You could even rent it out to friends for a nice little side hustle. That is, if you don’t mind other people wearing your bathrobe.
  • A dedicated yoga studio? Please. All you need to get your down dog on is a yoga mat and six feet of floor space. Depending on the size of your bathroom, you could limber up right next to the tub before you jump in.

We know practicing mindfulness keeps us happy and healthy. And you can’t put a price tag on that.

Peace out.

Lisa McGreevy is a staff writer at The Penny Hoarder. If you’re looking for her, she’ll be in her relaxation grotto.

Jennifer Lawrence, Jodie Foster to Announce Best Actress at 2018 Oscars

Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster will announce the Best Lead Actress award at the 2018 Oscars instead of last year’s Best Actor winner, Casey Affleck, who turned down the opportunity amid sexual misconduct allegations.

It’s an Oscars tradition for the previous year’s Best Actor winner to present the Best Actress award but Affleck, who won the Academy Award in 2017 for his role in Manchester by the Seadecided to withdraw in an attempt to avoid creating controversy after he was accused by two women of sexual harassment. Instead, Variety reports, Oscar winners Lawrence and Foster will do the honors.

As previously reported, Affleck is facing two lawsuits after his accusers alleged that he harassed them while working on 2010’s I’m Still Here. According to Time, one of the women claimed that Affleck crawled into bed with her while she was asleep, while the other asserted that he pressured her to stay in the hotel room and “violently grabbed [her] arm in an effort to intimidate her into staying” after she refused. The actor has denied the allegations and called the lawsuits “extortion.”

“I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else,” Affleck, 42, told the Boston Globe in February 2017. “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”

The past few months have seen a torrent of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood. After disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was accused by many actresses including Rose McGowan and Angelina Jolie of assault, other women came forward to open up about their experiences being harassed. This led to the formation of the Time’s Up movement, which aims to provide support to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault or abuse in the workplace. Many celebrities took their message of solidarity to the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January, where they wore black.

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the 2018 Oscars air on ABC on Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET.

Why This Woman Launched an Organization to Help Foster Care Youths

Briitiney Jones

Brittiney Jones emancipated from her parents at 16 years old. “At the time, I struggled with financial literacy, confidence, speaking in public, and finding a mentor or role model to help guide me,” says Jones. However, my mom always stressed the importance of higher education, so I knew college was the best route. In college, I searched for a similar community of people but I noticed there weren’t many people who were like me. I also learned about 10% of former foster care youth will attend college, and only about 3% graduate from higher education institutions—I was one of them.”

With this in mind, Jones later moved to Chicago and partnered with co-founder Alayna Washington to establish Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative.

Chicago Youth Iniatives (Image: Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative)

CYOI has not only received recognition from the community and governmental leaders in the Chicago area, but the Obama administration contacted them to discuss academic needs, and best practices to assist the growing underresourced foster care population.

Black Enterprise caught up with Jones to learn more about CYOI’s mission to make sure every CYOI student graduates from high school and seeks higher education or a career-related field.

Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative (Image: Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative Board)

How are you working toward making changes happen within the social service arena in Chicago??

Within the city of Chicago, and nationwide, there are correlations between abandoned youth, mental illness, drug abuse, homelessness, and gang affiliation. We believe by creating safe spaces for youth that provide guidance and promote self-love you can address the issue of abandonment. Our youth development program is based on a holistic approach that includes:

  • A mentoring program for our students, as well as a series of events, focused on the knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve their personal and academic goals.
  • A career expo which gives youth in our program an opportunity to network with career professionals in the Chicago community. Our students also get to share their stories, goals, dreams, etc. and receive feedback, as well as learning and job shadowing opportunities from our presenters.

What do you think schools, parents, and state agencies can do to improve the lives of foster youth living in Chicago?

We recommend that educational and social service leaders value the social-emotional growth (i.e., confidence-building, identity, self-esteem, etc.) of students to the same extent that academic growth is valued. Without a strong foundation and sense of self, it is hard to achieve anything.

Suranne Jones on Doctor Foster, infidelity and ‘all that unused sexual tension’

The brilliant Doctor Foster is back, and with it one of Britain’s most gifted actresses. We talk to Suranne Jones about the dark power struggle in store for round two, and what she learned from being on Coronation Street

Suranne Jones Marie Claire

Two years ago, the nation’s productivity took a nosedive as millions of people became virtually unable to talk about anything other than one BBC television show. Doctor Foster, the story of a GP slowly unravelling her husband’s affair, was gripping, enraging and ripe for debate. And it ended with a pretty conclusive showdown. So it’s perhaps understandable that its star, Suranne Jones, who won a Bafta for season one, was hesitant about bringing it back for part two.

Where could the story go now, with the cheater expelled, the crockery smashed, the marriage (apparently) over? ‘When they said, “Should we do another one?” I was suspicious that this was just because the first one was a success,’ admits Jones. But then she sat down with the show’s writer, Mike Bartlett (Charles III), and realised there was plenty of ground left to cover – and then some.

Suranne Jones

So Doctor Foster is back, bringing with it one of the country’s most watchable and skilled homegrown actresses, after a brief hiatus taken for the birth of her son (now 18 months old) with journalist husband Laurence Akers.

Jones, now 38, was a drama-loving kid who joined the Oldham Theatre Workshop when she was eight – in the same year as Anna Friel – and cut her teeth on Coronation Street as ‘bulldog in hoop earrings’ Karen McDonald.

She walked away from Corrie in 2004, turning down well-paid offers to appear on reality TV for a stage role in A Few Good Men at London’s Haymarket Theatre with Rob Lowe. But it was her turning-point role as a murderer released from jail in Unforgiven – a 2009 drama by Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright – that really threw her talents into sharp relief.

Wainwright and Jones went on to make five seasons of women-led hit detective drama Scott & Bailey together (with Jones starring opposite Lesley Sharp as chaotic DC Rachel Bailey) and on the week we meet, Jones has just inked a deal with HBO to star in Wainwright’s 19th-century biopic of Britain’s ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister. So if she’s currently Britain’s best-kept secret, she won’t be for much longer. But first, there’s the small matter of a cheating ex-husband to contend with.

You were initially reluctant to make a second season of Doctor Foster. What changed your mind?

‘I had to be sold on the fact that things weren’t as tied up as they seemed at the end of season one [but] Mike Bartlett, the show’s writer, is exceptional. He said, “When have you seen a show [about] the aftermath of a divorce once everyone seems to have sorted their lives out?” At the beginning of this season, Simon and Kate are together and they’ve moved away like Gemma wanted. Gemma’s gone back to being a doctor and she’s looking after her son, who is now turning into an adult. Two years down the line, what happens if that person comes back into your life? You still have to parent a child together, but you really fucking hate each other because of the affair. Those feelings haven’t gone away – they’re just dormant.’

Much of the drama in season one hinged on Gemma discovering the affair. How will this season be able to maintain that tension?

‘From Gemma’s perspective, she and Simon had a really active, sexual, loving, working relationship. Not only did the marriage stop and she found out she didn’t have the life she thought she’d had for two years, she was also sexually active and in love. What do you do with all that unused sexual tension that’s still there?’

Why do you think the show was such a talking point? Is there a fascination with infidelity?

‘Maybe it’s the fear of knowing that could actually happen to you in real life. It’s not a thriller, it’s not a murder, it’s something that feels more tangible. A lot of people have experienced a relationship betrayal, even if it was when they were 16 and with their first love. It could also be the fear that your beautiful, happy marriage could break down at any point when someone else comes along and taps into things that people can’t control.’

Suranne Jones

Have strangers come up to you on the street to share their own experiences with infidelity?

‘Yes, and I actually had two friends going through divorce at the time of filming. I also have a friend who recently spilt up from the father of her child – you can see the pain can go on for as long as three or four years in people when that happens. We also use the word “mental” a lot to describe women who have just had their heart broken. [But] the things they do are because they’re probably having a mini nervous breakdown. A lot of women told me they couldn’t believe the things they did.’

You were newly married when you filmed the first season. Was that ever a bit of a downer?

‘Yes… well, no. We were clearly very happy, but as soon as I finished Doctor Foster I obviously wanted to run straight home to give my husband a big cuddle, and I got pregnant within months of finishing! Luckily I was in a good place to be able to tell that story. Can you imagine if there were any doubts about my own relationship? It would’ve been awful.’

What can you tell us about your upcoming role as Anne Lister?

‘I knew that Sally [Wainwright] was interested in Anne Lister, but it’s taken 15 years to get it going. Previously, the timing wasn’t right for her to tell it in the way that she wanted to. Period dramas can be quite dry at times, as we look at our history in the same way. Anne Lister is just a different story that needed telling in a different way. The more I read about her, the more I go, “Oh, my god”. In the 19th century Lister was a landowner, she travelled, she was an entrepreneur, she refused to marry because she loved women, so she met a neighbouring heiress and “married” her. They went to the church and performed what Lister called a marriage, and then lived and travelled together.’

Is it because there’s been a wider conversation about gender and sexuality in the past few years that now feels like the right time?

‘I think given the fact that same-sex marriage and civil partnerships have happened, she looks particularly ahead of her time. It isn’t just about her sexual preferences, though. It’s about the fact that women nowadays have so much pressure, and so much opportunity work-wise and career-wise that not only was Anne Lister in love with women but also she was way ahead of the game in her professional life, too. I’ve read five episodes of the show and they’re brilliant.’

Suranne Jones

Your first big TV role was on a soap opera, which are notoriously hard work and involve long hours. What impact has that had on you?

‘Acting was something I always really wanted to do and, when I left school and was old enough to get an agent, Coronation Street was like the thing to get into. When I got it, my Grandad Bob and Nana Bertha were like, “What?! Oh, my god!” There are some people who are naturally talented, who just have it coming out of their ears; they just sparkle with talent. Some people – and I put myself in this category – don’t fit a mould. I always looked a lot older. I was as tall as a giraffe, even at ten, but I found my place and I really worked at it.’

You said you wanted to make Scott & Bailey in 2008 because there were too many women playing ‘mothers of’ and ‘daughters of’. How do you think the landscape has changed now?

‘It’s an amazing time for television, [and] the parts for women my age are great. When we used to promote Scott & Bailey, series one and two, people were saying, “So, this is about two female detectives?” You would never say, “Ah, so this is about two male detectives?” It’s outrageous that people said that six years ago. But not one person ever said to me about Doctor Foster, “So, this is about a female doctor?”

We really need to talk about Doctor Foster season 2

The show that had us shouting at the TV is just around the corner. Here’s everything we know so far.

Doctor Foster

Remember those few weeks back in 2015 when all anyone could talk about was one BBC television show? That TV show, Doctor Foster, is about to return for a second season. But where can the story of spurned GP Gemma Foster go after season one’s explosive, and seemingly very final, conclusion? If we learned anything from series one, which saw a single blonde hair lead to the total annihilation of one woman’s personal life, then pretty much anywhere.

Remind us what happens in the first season of Doctor Foster?

In the opening episode of season one a successful and happily married GP called Gemma Foster (Suranne Jones) discovers one long, blonde hair on her husband Simon (Bertie Carvel)’s scarf. This single discovery kicks Gemma into a spiral of suspicion that leads to the revelation of Simon’s affair with 23-year-old Kate, the daughter of Gemma’s patient.

Which bits made us shout at the TV?

Most of these involved some slightly ridiculous plot twists that pushed our willing suspension of disbelief to its absolute limits: Gemma discovering Kate and Simon have gone on a cosy French holiday with their best friends (and taken some happy group photos she discovers on his secret affair phone), Gemma bursting into Simon’s office to see him kissing Kate in the garden – presumably in full view of Simon’s others colleagues – Kate telling Gemma she’s pregnant with Simon’s child, and even Gemma’s mother-in-law revealing she’s known about the affair for two years. We also watched Dr Foster’s professional life unravel at the same time as her marriage thanks to an avalanche of negative RateMyGP reviews (doesn’t rain but it pours).

Where will the story go in Doctor Foster season two?

You might remember the final showdown at Kate’s parents’ house at the end of season one, when Gemma engineers an awkward dinner party, then sets fire to the evening by revealing the affair and Kate’s pregnancy. Just before the credits we see Gemma in the town square with her son, having apparently split from Simon.

Fast-forward to season two, where the action is set to begin two years later – in real time given the show’s hiatus – after the divorce between Simon and Gemma has gone through. ‘We’re now going to tell the next chapter in Gemma’s story’, says the show’s writer Mike Bartlett, ‘her life in Parminster may look better on the surface, but as she will discover to her cost, every action has its consequences eventually. No one comes through hell unscathed.’ File that one under: lots of old wounds being opened when Simon comes back into Gemma’s life.

Who is returning to star in it?

The brilliant Suranne Jones – who won a TV BAFTA for season one – will return to play Gemma in season two, as will her estranged husband Simon, played by Bertie Carvel. We also know from the billing of Jodie Comer that Simon’s 23-year-old lover Kate is still in his life.  Our money’s on: a very bitter divorce battle, some regrettable make-up sex with Simon and several very public stand-offs in Parminster town square.

Much of the tension in season one rested on Gemma’s discovery of the affair – the big challenge for season two will be how Bartlett maintains that tension two years after the affair has unfolded. Can they do it? We’ll find out next Tuesday 5th.

Norman Foster: Drawings, 1958-2008, 2-Volume Set

Norman Foster: Drawings, 1958-2008, 2-Volume Set

From his student days to the present, star architect Norman Foster (born 1935) has used drawing as an analytical and pedagogical tool, as a conduit for dialogue between eye and mind. Foster’s earliest drawings for projects such as Creek Vean and Waterfront Housing are almost picturesque in their integration of building and landscape; in the 1970s, he uses drawing to devise and then explain such typological subversions as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank headquarters. In the 1980s, Foster’s sketches for Stanstead airport make plain his revolutionary effect on airport architecture, paving the way for a new generation of aerated terminals with luminous roofs; plans for the Carre d’Art in Nimes exemplify his reinvention of how we envision and construct heritage sites today. From buildings of the past two decades, highlights include a fantastic sequence of drawings for the Collserola Tower, glorious sketches of the Reichstag dome, the Millenium bridge, the library at Berlin’s Free University, the Expressionist penumbras of Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City and the Sierra Leone school, where scarcity of resources necessitated and produced great conceptual elegance and clarity. In this magnificently produced, slipcased and linen-bound two-volume collection, spanning a half-century of works across over 200 drawings, each of Norman Foster’s projects is seen to command its own graphic style, and is narrated eloquently by the architect’s pen.
