Alton Lane Opens Flagship in TriBeCa

NEW YORK — Alton Lane is going big for its 13th store.
The custom men’s wear brand on Friday will debut an 1,800-square-foot store at 7 Harrison Street in TriBeCa, its most ambitious and highest-profile opening to date.
“We view this as our flagship,” said Colin Hunter, cofounder and chief executive officer.
Alton Lane was founded in 2009 by Hunter and his college buddy Peyton Jenkins to offer high-end custom clothing and furnishings at an affordable price. The company uses 3-D body-scanning technology and offers a one-on-one experience in a relaxed environment.
The company also operates a store in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, but that location on the fifth floor is more of a destination. Because the brand has so many customers that live or work downtown, it made sense to open a store in that area.
“We looked for an opportunity for a location that was more accessible,” Hunter said of the bright, corner space in TriBeCa.
In addition to a large assortment of fabric books and a variety of fit models of suits, sport coats and dress shirts, the store also features a fully stocked bar with bourbon from Elijah Craig, a private poker room, several televisions and seating areas.

Former Accountant Turned Self Taught Chef Talks Tips For Creating Your Own Lane

When Angela Davis unexpectedly lost her job as a senior project accountant she turned to cooking as a side hustle. But life had its way and her passion for cooking turned into The Kitchenista Diaries, a mini-empire featuring cookbooks, recipe development services, and cooking classes. Her Twitter hashtag #KitchenistaSundays became so popular with followers that she turned it into a family-style dinner event series which attracts 75- 100 people in Washington, D.C.

Looking back at your journey from employee to business owner, what were the moments when you said to yourself, ‘Oh, maybe I can make a living from doing this full time?”

The first was when I booked my first major catering gig for The Roots’ concert. The second was self-publishing my first digital cookbook. They were both a direct result of building a following from my food blog and social media. The light bulbs came on and I realized that the income didn’t necessarily have to come from my blog itself.

Considering you’re a self-taught chef, tell us some things you did to hone your skills in culinary arts and grow your business as a private chef?

  • Cooked every day and tried dishes that I had never made myself. This pushed me out of my comfort zone.
  • Pored through food magazines, cookbooks, and blogs to learn how to write a recipe and to figure out what my voice would be.
  • Contacted other private chefs to learn about the business, especially about pricing catering engagements.

Also, the vast majority of my work comes from fans of my blog or Instagram feeds. I’ve done very little advertising. Learning how to take professional photos of my food is the best investment I made because that’s what makes people want to know more about what I can do.

Recently you turned your #KitchenistaSundays hashtag into an in-person event. Tell us about that.

#KitchenistaSundays was intended to highlight what everyday people are cooking at home for Sunday dinner. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it’s about taking extra time out of the week to create a meal you’re proud to share with loved ones. My dinner series is a continuation of that, amplified of course because now we’re feeding 75-100 people in one sitting! Sunday Dinner with The Kitchenista (presented by Events DC) definitely highlights home cooking, and the dishes are mostly served family style.

I’m all about the stick-to-your-ribs kind of comfort food that brings people to the table. My favorite meals on Sunday are often slow cooked, especially through the fall and winter, so you’ll see a lot of braised and roasted meats, which we get from local butchers, vibrant farm-fresh salads, homemade baked goods, and fun appetizers.

My events are also a social gathering, so there’s curated music and vendors selling crafts, we bring in bartenders to do seasonal cocktails, and we hire professional wait-staff so the guests can be comfortable.

Kaiser Permanente Northwest and PeaceHealth Collaborate to Improve Health in Lane County

EUGENE, Ore. — Kaiser Permanente Northwest and PeaceHealth will collaborate to address community health needs and increase access to care in Lane County.

The two organizations are currently developing a jointly funded community health initiative to address a number of areas identified in the Lane County Health Needs Assessment. The focus areas selected include transitional and recuperative housing, access to dental care for people in need, strengthening school-based health centers, and workforce development efforts to support community health workers.

In addition, PeaceHealth and Kaiser Permanente have agreed to collaborate on health care delivery and coverage in Lane County.

“PeaceHealth and Kaiser Permanente share a deeply held commitment not only to meet the immediate health care needs of our patients and communities we collectively serve, but also to practice preventive health — moving upstream to address the unique and specific social determinants of health that are barriers to wellness,” said Rand O’Leary, chief executive of PeaceHealth’s Oregon network.

“Together, PeaceHealth and Kaiser Permanente, working strategically with other community leaders, can improve the health of Lane County’s most vulnerable citizens and keep care local,” said Janet O’Hollaren, interim president, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals of the Northwest.

“Our 126-year heritage at PeaceHealth is rooted in caring for the most vulnerable,” said David Duffey, DO, vice president and medical director of PeaceHealth Medical Group in Oregon. “We’re excited to work together with Kaiser Permanente to best serve the health and well-being of all Lane County residents.”

“Permanente Medicine is all about collaboration and learning and sharing of evidence-based best practices, with the patient at the core of everything we do. We look forward to our partnerships in Lane County doing just that!” said Imelda Dacones, MD, president and CEO, Northwest Permanente, P.C.

Community health initiatives supporting Lane County nonprofits will be announced in December.

Kaiser Permanente has a medical office building and dental office in Lane County. Current members include dental and medical members with out-of-area coverage. Kaiser Permanente is also providing care to Medicaid members through Trillium Community Health Plan.

PeaceHealth offers a number of medical services in Oregon, including four medical centers located in Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove and Florence. In addition, 20 PeaceHealth Medical Group clinics provide primary care and specialty services throughout Lane County, with specialty outreach to adjacent counties.

About PeaceHealth

Troopers Catch Driver Using ‘Most Interesting Man’ Pic In Carpool Lane

Washington State Police have issued what may be the “most interesting traffic citation” ever.

On Monday, a motorcycle trooper near Fife, Washington, pulled over a driver who was attempting to use the carpool lane by sticking a cardboard cutout in the passenger seat.

It wasn’t just any face, it was that of Jonathan Goldsmith, the actor who plays “The Most Interesting Man in the World” in Dos Equis ads, KOMO TV reports.

That’s when things got “interesting,” according to Washington State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill.

“[The driver] couldn’t have used a more recognizable face,” Gill told ABC News. “The trooper and the driver had a good laugh about it but he was cited anyway… Our trooper give him a $ 124 ticket for violating [High Occupancy Vehicle] lane laws.”

The driver, who has not been identified by name, did make a half-hearted attempt to go through with the ruse, telling the officer, “He’s my best friend. He just sits here and doesn’t talk,” Gill told the New York Daily News.

The Washington State Patrol immortalized the incident with this tweet:

Josh Brolin And Diane Lane Are Officially Divorced

It’s over.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane are officially divorced. Lane first filed divorce papers back in Feb. 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.

The documents were filed in Los Angeles Country Superior Court on Nov. 27 and stated that Brolin, 45, and Lane, 48, have a private financial agreement and the actress will not seek spousal support outside of that arrangement. She will however change her name back to Diane Lane — she legally went by Diane Lane Brolin while they were married.

Brolin is currently dealing with other legal issues after he was arrested for public intoxication just before midnight on New Year’s Day of this year. He has since had several drunken incidents and checked himself into rehab last month.

Brolin and Lane, who married in Aug. 2004, have no children together.
