Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson Are Reportedly in Couples Therapy: ‘She Doesn’t Want to Look a Fool’

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson are really trying to make their relationship work.

via Page Six:

Lisa Stanley, a longtime friend of Kris Jenner, opened up about the couple’s relationship following Thompson’s cheating scandal in April days before their daughter was born, saying Khloé would never leave him.

“She doesn’t want to look a fool. She was a fool once with Lamar [Odom], and she didn’t want to do it again,” Stanley told KIIS FM’s Celeb HQ on Monday.

To help move on from the scandal, they’ve sought out couples therapy.

“One thousand percent they are working through couples therapy. She’s working hard, he’s working hard,” she shared. “You can’t just earn trust back in two months.”

Khloé previously said she was proud of herself for being able to try to re-establish a rapport with the father of her daughter, True.

“You have no knowledge of what goes on in our household or the enormous rebuilding this takes to even coexist,” Khloé clapped back at a fan who criticized her for staying with the NBA player. “I’m proud of my strength.”

Although Khloé’s family wanted her to leave Thompson, Stanley said that would never happen.

“Khloé was always going to try and make this work, for a plethora of reasons. The first reason is she has a child now, and she feels very connected to [Tristan] in that way,” she said. “The second reason is she loves him. She clearly loves the man.”

We wish them the best.

These people get paid to make your vacation pics look glamorous

For Ilyse Dolgenas, planning an exotic vacation is a terrific excuse to splurge on clothes. Does Nene Leakes Want To Look White?

NeNe Leakes claims it was meant to be a light-hearted joke about Eurocentric beauty but it sparked furor among her followers in the comments section on her Instagram page this week.

“Thank you @fabfacesmua for keeping me looking like a white woman whenever I’m in the Bahamas I wish you much success #bahamamomma #thesepeoplecrazy #lovebeingabrowngirl #lifeofnene,” the ‘RHOA‘ star said on July 9 in the caption of a selfie taken on the Caribbean island.

While many were outraged over the comment, NeNe’s defenders noted that the message was punctuated with a sarcastic rolling eye emoji. Still — several fans slammed Leakes for altering her appearance to distance herself from blackness (nose job, blonde hair).

Peep the controversial photo below.
Instagram Photo

Fan reaction was mixed.

“F— looking like a white woman! You look like your own damn self! BLACK BLONDE & BEAUTIFUL AF! Lol.” wrote one fan.

“Denying your blackness is a sad thing,” said another.

But many questioned: “Are you really trying to look white?”

Leakes backed up two commenters who explained that she was only kidding about “looking like a white woman.”

“There are two types of people in this world….1) Those that speak and understand sarcasm. 2) Idiots!” “@brandisjudge” NeNe said in response.

One fan replied to her: “@neneleakes everybody so damn sensitive these days. It’s like there [sic] waiting on you to say something they don’t agree with so they can throw u under the bus. Anyway, where Gregg at? Tell him to honk the horn on they ass.“

“@flynerd some people just don’t get it,” Leakes replied.

Others caught the joke and called out those who got all riled up over nothing.

“She’s making a joke people DAMN! She’s not saying she wants to look like a white woman, she’s trolling and throwing shade at the people who say that about her.”

Fans have previously reacted to NeNe’s blonde ambition:

Galaxy S10 vs. iPhone X

If yesterday’s phone launch proves anything, it’s that we’ve reached peak smartphone design. In a world of iPhone X clones, Oppo came up with a crazy new phone that forces itself not to copy the notch. Of course, the irony that the Find X looks just like a Galaxy S/Note or that Color OS looks a lot like Apple iOS doesn’t escape us.

However, the Find X design is hardly perfect. We’ve got a motorized camera system that slides up whenever you want to unlock the phone, take a picture, or take a selfie. It’s a neat concept, but it’s destined to fail for a couple of reasons. The first one I already mentioned, the motorized sliding mechanism. The second one is related to the first one. This phone doesn’t have any water resistance, and that’s not what we want for the future of smartphones.

7 Signs Of Domestic Violence You Need To Look Out For In Your Relationship

Domestic Violence Victim at Safe House in New York

Source: Viviane Moos / Getty

In a heart wrenching interview with TV One’s ‘Sister Circle,’ Andrea Kelly, singer R. Kelly’s ex-wife, reveals the moment she discovered she was a victim of domestic violence in her relationship.

Kelly revealed her revelation came in a moment of deep pain, when God told her to type ‘domestic violence’ into her computer.

“I’m not that girl,” she said tearfully, typing in the words in disbelief. “I’m not the teeth missing. I’m not the broken bones girl.” But Kelly kept scrolling and stumbled upon a 17 item questionnaire that helped her understand the extend of the abuse.

“They ask has your abuser ever done…and of the 17, Robert had done 15 to me.”

Although the realization was shocking, being able to label the behavior as domestic violence was the key to her freedom.

If you feel you are the victim of domestic violence, here are some things to look out for in your partner’s behavior:

  1. Does your partner keep you from going out or doing things that you want to do?
  2. Does your partner’s behavior make you feel as if you are wrong?
  3. Do you feel obligated or coerced into having sex with your partner?
  4. Does your partner say that if you try to leave, he or she will kill himself or herself or you?
  5. Do you lie to your family, friends and doctor about your bruises, cuts and scratches?
  6. Does your partner criticize you or embarrass you in front of others?
  7. Do you watch what you are doing in order to avoid making your partner angry or upset?

You can take the whole questionnaire here.

Microsoft Office is getter a simpler, cleaner look

TwitterFacebook

Microsoft Office is getting a cleaner look.

The company announced Wednesday it will begin rolling out subtle changes to the Office.com and Office 365 app designs in order to make them look simpler and less cluttered.

The biggest change by far is coming to Microsoft Word, where the toolbar at the top of the screen (officially dubbed “the ribbon”) will be pared down to just one line. Fans of the classic design will be able to expand it back to the larger ribbon if they choose.

The changes fit in with Microsoft’s overarching Fluent Design language, which can be found across most parts of Windows 10. The updated ribbon will also include new animations, icons, and a few small color changes. Read more…

Get Pippa Middleton’s Parisian Look With These 9 Dresses

Pippa Middleton may not be officially royal like her sister Duchess Kate, but that definitely doesn’t stop her from dressing like a queen. Middleton appeared with her husband James Matthews at the French open tennis match at Roland Garros in Paris on May 27 looking pretty as a princess in a bright red printed wrap dress. She paired the ladylike frock with a very on-trend woven crossbody bag and neutral-toned espadrilles. But perhaps our favorite part of the look was Middleton and her hubby’s matching fedoras.

Because we’re loving this prim and elegant look so much, we rounded up nine dresses so that you can get the same perfectly understated vibe as Middleton, perfect for a warm spring day whether you’re watching a tennis match or lounging around a terrace with friends and a cool glass of rosé.

‘Halloween’ First Look Is Equal Parts Sequel and Remake

Halloween is a big deal for horror fans. The iconic franchise hasn’t had a film in almost a decade, but that’s about to change. This October, Michael Myers is returning to the big screen in a film written and directed by David Gordon Green with Danny McBride as a co-writer. Fans have been eager to see what their vision will look like and we got a look at the first trailer during the Universal presentation at CinemaCon. And now, you can see the trailer for yourself!

Our reaction? Mixed in some very strong ways.

All the Old Familiar Places

halloween ghost michael myers
Fans will recognize a few familiar images in the new 'Halloween,' like a nod to this classic scene.

The trailer starts with a duo of documentarians inquiring about a certain mental patient. Through some refresher course backstory, we discover that this is Michael Myers. As they approach him, they open a bag and pull out the iconic mask. Yeah, that’s a really good idea.

From the dialogue we heard, it’s clear that this new film is only acknowledging the original Halloween. There is even a joke where some teens talk about the original murders and one kid says, “Wasn’t it Laurie Strode‘s brother who killed everyone?” Another teen responds, “Nah, that was just something someone made up.” The audience laughed and things seemed to be going along quite well.

But, we see a number of shots that feel like direct riffs on the original Halloween. Michael escapes due to a bus transfer that tips over and we see patients roaming the roads. It’s an image that anyone familiar with the first film will recognize. We see the same Haddonfield sidewalk shots of people walking, and even a callback to the infamous “ghost” scene from the first film. The parts of the trailer that looked like a remake were somewhat discouraging.

However, the new elements looked great.

A New Nightmare

Halloween Michael Myers closet
You'll also seem some inversions of some classic 'Halloween' scares.

We catch up with Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and she has become a bonafide badass in the 40 years since Michael’s massacre. Her house has a secret basement that’s hidden by a motorized trap door, and she even looks to have a shooting range where she’s been practicing her headshots. Since Michael’s capture, she’s been preparing for his return. “I’ve been waiting for Michael to return… so I can kill him.” It’s definitely treading similar ground as Halloween: H20 but in a much more polished and intriguing way.

And the few scares we saw were actually really effective. There’s a small bit in a child’s bedroom where a babysitter is trying to close a closet door and it won’t shut. She slams it over and over but it won’t cooperate, so she opens it wide and Michael is right there. It’s a perfect use of his boogeyman persona. But, the coolest shot wasn’t even a scare. Laurie is standing on the street and looks up in a window. She sees Michael staring back at her. She pulls out a gun and fires. It looks like she hits her target, but it turns out that it was a mirror with Michael’s reflection in it. If there are more creative moments like that, the remake aspects might not be as damaging.

It is worth noting that the film itself looks incredibly polished with some cool compositions. It’s the first Halloween sequel since the original Halloween II that feels like it belongs in the same visual world as the first film. Green is an accomplished director and we want to believe he’s got some tricks up his sleeve.

You can judge for yourself but we’re staying cautiously optimistic on this one. Halloween opens on October 19 in the US and UK.

Review: Ye Is an Uneasy Look at Kanye West’s Life as a Walking Contradiction

Kanye West’s projects since he teamed up with his now-wife Kim Kardashian West in 2012—the abrasive Yeezus, the sprawling The Life of Pablo, the series of personal appearances punctuated by top-of-the-head singles—have had varying stylistic contours. The one thing they’ve consistently focused on is contrast: Light and dark, ugly and beautiful, self-aggrandizing and self-loathing.

West is perhaps uniquely qualified to grapple with this. In the public mind of 2018 he is “Kanye,” shorthand for an outspoken black man who says a lot of outré things in a world still struggling mightily with its racial politics, who Barack Obama has called a “jackass,” and who’s married to a similarly polarizing figure. (Among other things.) He’s also Kanye West, rapper and producer born in Chicago, happy when he’s eating ice cream. The back-and-forth between “Kanye” and the public can be excruciating to watch unfold in real time, particularly when it deals with topics like mental illness and opioid edition, and even moreso when it touches even more volatile third rails like President Donald Trump. It’s perhaps most disheartening when it crosses onto platforms that take the wink-and-nod approach to any subject they tackle—your TMZs, your 24-hour news networks, your drive-by Tweeters looking for an excuse to blow off steam—and erase the humanity at the star’s nucleus.

But West didn’t reach his exalted position because he went on a reality show with no interest in making friends. He was an innovative producer who minted hits, both for himself—the Ray Charles callback “Gold Digger,” the dreamy “P.Y.T.” flip “Good Life”—and for others, like former confidante Jay-Z and pop megastars Rihanna and Paul McCartney. This year, in addition to his gossip-blog-poking appearances, he returned to music, “chopping samples from the sunken place” (as he said on Twitter—he apparently meant Jackson Hole, Wyoming) on albums for himself, as well as other artists in his G.O.O.D. Music stable.

Ye, West’s eighth solo album and the second in this pre-summer flurry, was launched at a splashy listening party in Jackson Hole on Thursday. West collected boldfaced names and influencers in order to hear the record around a campfire. It opens in the dark; the first track is unnervingly called “I Thought About Killing You,” and it opens with West in monologue, his voice stretching and shifting as he talks about murder and suicide over watercolor synths. “I think this is the part where I’m supposed to say something good to compensate it, so it doesn’t come off… bad,” he says, then chuckles mirthlessly before his voice is pitched to an even lower point, so as to emphasize the “really, really, really bad things” knocking around his brain. (Think American Psycho where the exalted business cards are flaunted on Instagram.) Those impulses recede, but linger over the rest of the record.

Sonically, Ye resembles Pablo but, perhaps appropriately given its terse title, more stripped-down, with the occasional pitch-shifted voice dropped in to add uneasiness. Ye doesn’t deviate too much from the lyrical concepts of Pablo—it blends the trivial and the life-or-death like on the darkened-club “Yikes,” where he declares his bipolar syndrome (which he calls out on the scrawled-on-iPhone-pic cover) to be his “superpower” and compares the U.S.-North Korea tensions to his long-simmering beef with Wiz Khalifa. “Wouldn’t Leave” is a love song that doubles as an apology to his wife; closing track “Violent Crimes,” which features a shoutout to and cameo by fellow stratosphere-dweller Nicki Minaj, draws from the “I respect women more now that I have daughters” well that’s simultaneously frustrating and a relief. But it wouldn’t be a Kanye album without fundamental contradictions to the very end.

It’s time to take another look at Capri Sun

by

Whitney Barthel

posted in Products

Motherhood can be exasperating. And the decisions we make just to feed our children can be enough to scramble your brain. There are so few times a product is 1) easy 2) affordable and 3) not terrible for you.

Whitney Barthel kidsA completely typical moment at our house.

I’m a mother of five; all three of these things are important to me. So when I find something that hits the trifecta, it’s enough to make me jump for joy…or perhaps just watch my kids do it. And from then on, having said product on hand is a real no-brainer.

Here’s the thing: my boys insist on bringing their lunch to school, mainly because all their friends pack a lunch, and heaven forbid they have to wait in line for hot lunch while their friends are already hanging out at a table.

Anyway, this obviously complicates things when I’m scrambling to get three kids out the door and onto the bus by 7 a.m. To make my mornings a tiny bit more manageable, I keep a few key products around that are easy to throw in a lunchbox as part of a well-rounded meal — or at least one I know I won’t get a call about from the principal or PTA.

One of these key items is Capri Sun. The brand has evolved from the one you grew up with, and now offers a ton of different options for picky parents like me who want to give their kids a decent juice drink. Right now, the boys and I are really digging the 100% Juice, Organic, and Fruit Refreshers lines, both at school and at home. They’re made from all-natural ingredients, and contain no added sugar* (THANK YOU!), artificial color, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. Oh yeah, and according to my boys, they are super yummy .

While all three of the Capri Sun lines are made with all-natural ingredients, there are a few differences between the products.

  1. The 100% Juice line is just what it says — 100% Juice. Every pouch contains 3/4 cup of real fruit juice**. Try the apple, berry, fruit punch, grape or watermelon flavors.
  2. The Organic line is made from USDA Certified organic fruit and is available in apple, fruit punch, grape, tropical punch, and strawberry lemonade. My boys love the strawberry lemonade. They tell me it tastes extra delicious after getting all hot and sweaty riding bikes or wrestling on the trampoline.
  3. The Fruit Refreshers are my personal favorite and contain 50 percent less sugar than other leading juice drinks***. Fruit Refreshers come in four flavors: Awesomely Apple, Very Berry, Aloha Mango and Orange Pineapple Tango.

Bonus for moms like me who sometimes need a little treat after a grueling session of 8-minute abs: all Fruit Refreshers flavors are between 45-50 calories. Score!

Honestly, Capri Sun has made it really easy for moms to give our kids (or ourselves) a guilt-free beverage…and one that won’t bust your grocery budget either. #MomWin

Is ‘Star Trek: Insurrection’ Worth a Second Look 20 Years Later?

2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the ninth Star Trek film, Insurrection, the third outing for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) following the universally-acclaimed First Contact. The film opened to mixed reviews and is not generally considered to be one of the franchise’s better instalments. But does it deserve this reputation? Let’s look back at this oft-forgotten entry in Star Trek canon.

The Morality Play

While Star Trek TV shows excel at delivering thoughtful commentary on current events, the movies often struggle to do the same. With the exception of The Voyage Home’s explicit “Save the Whales” message and The Undiscovered Country’s metaphor for the collapse of the Soviet Union, attempts to be overtly thoughtful tend to be less effective than simply integrating some subtext. Just consider the heavy-handed moralizing of Into Darkness versus the more casual approach of Beyond.

Star Trek: First Contact poster
‘First Contact’ gave itself less of a burden and succeeded because of it.

This explains First Contact’s success. While the movie had things to say about destiny, revenge, and humanity creating a brighter future for itself, it was primarily a fun action movie. Insurrection, on the other hand, sets itself up for failure by being all about the message. Not only that, but the message itself almost begs the audience to reject it. It argues that preserving the way of life for a mere 600 people is more important than helping billions of people in a time of war.

Data, Picard, Worf
Brent Spiner as Data, Patrick Stewart as Picard, and Michael Dorn as Worf in ‘Star Trek: Insurrection.’

Insurrection deserves credit for such a bold stance. Its core message is an indictment of some of the most horrific atrocities in human history, from the slave trade to the Trail of Tears. Some audience members and critics rejected the morality play, arguing that 600 people represent stakes that are too low to justify Picard’s rebellion. But Insurrection anticipates the criticism and gives Picard the ultimate retort. He questions the admiral’s reasoning, asking him how many people must be affected by his decision before it becomes wrong.

The Contrast With Deep Space Nine

One can gain a deeper appreciation for Insurrection‘s message by placing it in context with the rest of the franchise. In 1998, Deep Space Nine (DS9) was midway through its seventh and final season. The Dominion War had been raging for almost two years. Audiences had watched Captain Sisko and his crew fight on the front lines and make sacrifices that Picard and his people had never had to make.

The scene where Picard decides to violently resist the relocation of the Ba’ku is compelling because of a (likely coincidental) parallel to the worst thing Sisko ever did. Picard, alone in his quarters, slowly removes his rank pips, and when we see him next he’s in civilian clothes.

It harkens back to the seminal DS9 episode “In the Pale Moonlight” where Sisko slowly removes his uniform as he explains how he tricked the Romulans into joining the war. Whereas Sisko removes his uniform but ultimately declares that he can live with what he has done, Picard removes his uniform because he can’t live with the consequences of removing the Ba’ku.

Picard and Sisko represent two sides of a debate that Star Trek revels in. One could argue that Picard and his crew, who are never referenced during the war storyline in DS9, and don’t seem to be anywhere near the front lines, are making their choice because they have the privilege of not seeing how desperate things have gotten. Or you could say that it is Sisko who is wrong and that the Federation cannot survive if its surrenders its moral high ground. It’s a dichotomy that Star Trek keeps revisiting, and Insurrection carries on that tradition.

A Mixed Bag in the Execution

Ru'afo
F. Murray Abraham as Ahdar Ru’afo

The main “guest stars” of the movie — Donna Murphy as Anij, F. Murray Abraham as Ru’afo, and Anthony Zerbe as Admiral Dougherty — all turn in solid performances. So, too, does Gregg Henry, who does good supporting work as Ru’afo’s subordinate Gallatin.

And the film gives most of its principal cast material to work with, including a subtle, moving performance from LeVar Burton in a scene where Geordi sees his first sunrise. But it largely fails Marina Sirtis and Gates McFadden, who end up with very little to do. While it’s not as egregious a waste of talent as Nemesis, it’s still a letdown.

As for the action, it’s mostly pretty good. Some fans may find Riker’s “manual steering column” a bit ridiculous, but you’ll never convince us it’s not awesome.

Fans may also criticise the admittedly bizarre action sequence in which Picard defeats a malfunctioning Data by singing Gilbert and Sullivan. They shouldn’t, because the scene is fantastic, but they might.

But it must be acknowledged that some elements do not hold up well. Insurrection was the first Star Trek film to use CGI for all its visual effects, including the rendering of the starships. Unfortunately, in HD many of the space shots are noticeably computer-generated and look unfinished.

On top of that, some of the sets, particularly the bridge of Ru’afo’s flagship and the interior of the Son’a collector ship, look incredibly cheap. For a franchise that has always been able to maintain appearances even when budgets are tight, the aesthetic of Insurrection is a disappointment that sometimes takes you out of the experience.

The Verdict

Insurrection isn’t the best film starring the TNG cast — that honour definitely belongs to First Contact. But it’s better than NemesisGenerations, and even The Final Frontier (because all the other Star Trek movies are). For fans who loathed NemesisInsurrection is the perfect send-off for the TNG crew.

It shows them at their best — funny, thoughtful, and unafraid to deal with the complex themes that made the TV show so important. It deserves, on its 20th anniversary, a second look, and maybe some renewed appreciation from Star Trek fans.

Big Names In Print: a closer look at Albert Irvin, Joe Tilson and Tess Jaray editions

Get up to speed on the latest collectable artworks by a range of respected international artists at artrepublic. In the spotlight this week, a trio of British artists: Albert Irvin, Joe Tilson and Tess Jaray.

Founded in Leather Market in 1967, Advanced Graphics is now one of London’s longest running print studios. Specialising in screen printing and woodblock printing, over the past 50 years the studio has worked with some of the biggest names on the British art scene – think Royal Academicians such as Patrick Caulfield and Albert Irvin – to produce print editions. What happens when this technical heritage meets talent? Some pretty special art, that’s what.

Capture something of the ‘experience of being in the world’ via the energetic abstract expressionist artwork of Albert Irvin. Colourful and joyful, the British artist’s paintings showcase a highly gestural quality – they are absolutely packed with movement and life. This is not something that was lost in translation between the artist’s paintings and his silkscreen print editions; if anything the quality and vibrancy of the colour palette is even crisper and more distinct in the latter.

You can see exactly what we mean with ‘Ranelagh’ and ‘Sangora’ – both from limited editions of 225 and 150 respectively – which showcase an almost Pop-Art-like sensibility. However, rather than locate themselves in a particular era of art history, their bold, bright colours and patterns awaken our senses and bring us firmly into the present. Waking up to see this on the wall would boost your mood instantly we reckon!

Other artists draw on the past to create images in the present. Originally associated with the British Pop Art scene of the 1960s and 1970s, Joe Tilson brought more to the movement than his training from St Martin’s and the Royal College of Art – he also prided himself on the practical construction skills he gained at Brixton School of Building before the Second World War.

This focus on the structural is reflected in the block-coloured stacked form at the centre of Ziggurat, which was inspired by the massive stepped stone structures built in ancient Mesopotamia. Tilson simplified the form back to a tiered pyramid shape to create this limited edition print (in a run of 300), which is one in a series of the same name. Each image in the Ziggurat series – which has been featured in exhibitions at galleries that range from Britain’s Tate to New York’s MoMA – explores the same central form but with a different approach each time. With its bold blocks of colour, this Tilson print is a Pop Art era classic and a shrewd addition to any modern art collection.

Another influential figure in the British art scene with a preoccupation with the built environment, painter and printmaker Tess Jaray has spent much of her career investigating the effects of geometry, pattern, repetition and colour on space. The terrazzo floor designed by Jaray for mainline train station London Victoria, is just one example of how the artist has made her mark on familiar public spaces.

Make a mark on your own space with one (or both) of Jaray’s silkscreen prints, such asCitadel Darkand Citadel Light’ – currently both available at artrepublic. Each from a limited edition of just 25, these artworks show exactly how Jaray has brought the Pop Art sensibility into the 21st century. Channelling her fascination with geometric forms that recur in architecture throughout history, Jaray creates soft zig-zag lines in the vertical panels of the two prints, confounding the viewers expectation of flat harmony.

Introduce a little of the British Pop Art aesthetic into your home with these rare limited editions. Drop by our Brighton gallery and speak to one of our art advisors or, if youre not local, check out these artists’ work online at artrepublic.com.

This is what Google’s new music streaming service might look like

YouTube remix release date

Google has a complicated relationship with music streaming. On the face of it, Google Play Music is a viable streaming alternative to Spotify or Apple Music, but the service has never quite received the resources that you might expect from Google. At the same time, YouTube also has its own “music” service, which puts a more traditional music player interface on top of YouTube’s videos.

The two have never quite worked together, which is why we weren’t surprised to see a report last week that suggested Google is planning to integrate all its music ambitions into one app, to be called YouTube Remix. Now, it appears as though Google is rolling out a significant redesign to the YouTube Music app for some users, which could well be the interface for YouTube Remix.

A Loving Look at Loki: Our Favorite MCU Scoundrel and Self-Serving Sociopath

SPOILER ALERT: Warning, this article about Loki contains spoilers from Avengers: Infinity War. Proceed at your own risk.

Sometimes a villain, sometimes a hero, but always entertaining, Loki is one of the most compelling characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Since the God of Mischief didn’t make it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive — or even out of the first scene for that matter — let’s take a loving look back at his time in the MCU and discuss what made him such a fun bad guy.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

As a master of trickery, we never quite knew what to expect from Loki. He’s ultimately self-serving, but he’s shown glimmers of compassion for others that had him flip-flopping from bad to good and back again.

The character kept us on our toes and captivated us with his comical quips while simultaneously sowing destruction as a full-blown sociopath. And that’s no easy feat.

A History of Loki

MCU fans first met Loki in Thor, which featured him sabotaging his brother’s coronation by letting Frost Giants enter Asgard. After Thor vowed to seek vengeance on the group, his father Odin banished him to Earth and Loki wound up on the throne for a short time. But the God of Thunder eventually returned and ended his brother’s reign.

Never one to pass up an opportunity to further himself at the expense of others, Loki soon made a deal with the Mad Titan Thanos, who gave him The Chitauri Scepter. He then wielded the power to command the Chitauri invasion of Earth. And he may have gotten away with it too if it hadn’t been for those pesky Avengers who saved the day during the Battle of New York. Big bro Thor sent him back to Asgard, where Odin imprisoned him for his crimes.

Loki forces a crowd in Germany to kneel

But you can’t keep a not-so-good man down. Thor eventually freed Loki from prison in order to get his help defeating the Dark Elves and their leader, Malekith. That’s because they killed the brothers’ mother, Frigga, during the Sacking of Asgar. This is one of the first times fans saw Loki caring for someone other than himself, as he genuinely mourned his mother and teamed up with his brother for revenge.

While confronting the Dark Elves in Svartalfheim, Loki appeared to betray his brother once again by cutting off Thor’s hand and turning Jane Foster over to Malekith. But, in fact, the God of Mischief deceived again; Loki’s betrayal of Thor was actually a holographic projection that lured Malekith into a false sense of security. But he didn’t stop there! Loki then faked his own death and secretly returned to Asgard to impersonate Odin and sit on the throne.

Loki seemingly dies from his wounds
Thor thinks his brother died during battle

When Thor: Ragnarök hit theaters in 2017, the titular character returned to Asgard and uncovered his brother’s latest deception. This led the two to pair up once again to find their father. The siblings found Odin just in time to witness his death, which allowed their long-lost sister Hela to return from banishment and wage war against the Nine Realms.

While it was (as usual) hard to tell which side Loki was aligning himself with while the brothers were in Sakaar dealing with the Grandmaster, he ultimately sided with Thor and the Revengers in a final battle against Hela. The God of Mischief summoned Surtur, who defeated Hela by causing Ragnarök. After the fight, Loki stayed by Thor’s side and supported his ascension to the throne.

Loki and Thor search for Odin together
The brothers search for Odin together

Since Ragnarök destroyed Asgard, Thor piled the surviving citizens of his realm into a ship and planned to take them to Earth. But they were intercepted by Thanos and his Black Order. That’s because Loki grabbed the Tesseract on his way out of Asgard, and the Mad Titan wanted the Space Stone that it contained.

Loki proved once again that he did have a love for his brother, offering the Tesseract to Thanos in order to stop him from killing Thor. But, always up to something, he then promised to serve Thanos before trying to stab him with a dagger. Alas, it turned out to be a big mistake. The Mad Titan snapped Loki’s neck, and we lost the God of Mischief for good.

Loki gives the Tesseract to Thanos

And while it looks like the other characters we lost in Avengers: Infinity War could be revived in the next installment, we fear we have seen the last of Loki as he was killed before Thanos wiped out half the population of the universe. But we’ll always have the memories of the many, many times he kept Thor and the Avengers on their toes and we’ll fondly remember watching him become one of our favorite movie villains of all time.

And who knows, he IS the God of Mischief. Perhaps his death was yet another ruse and he’ll return. Only time will tell.

Big Brother star Alex Lee reveals she’s gay as she shows off completely different look after major makeover

FORMER Big Brother star Alex Lee has revealed she’s gay in a new interview.

The reality star also looks completely unrecognisable after ditching her Barbie look from the 2011 series and undergoing a dramatic £60k transformation.

The currently single star told Diva magazine, “I’ve known since I was younger that I’ve been attracted to women.

“It’s only quite recently that I was able to find the strength to come out and say, ‘Look, I’m gay.’”

Alex revealed she dated a woman for one and a half years but isn’t really looking for a serious romance.

And more then seven years on from her stint in Big Brother, she says she’s in a “completely different place” from her reality show incarnation.

In recent snaps on the reality star’s Twitter account, she now sports a demure brunette hairstyle and has ditched the fake tan for a natural glow.

She told the mag part of her new look is down to surgery after “coming into some money” following her stint on Big Brother where she came in third.

She said: “I was lucky enough to come into some money after Big Brother and that’s what I spent it on. “In a way it’s sad, because when I saw myself on telly, it wasn’t me. It wasn’t what I thought I looked like. It really affected me over the years with body dysmorphia.”

She added: “Using the money and getting surgery and changing the way I looked, it’s made me into the person I always wanted to be.

“It’s like a fresh start. 2018’s definitely my year.”

The star gave up her job as cabin crew for an airline to go into the house in September 2011, but spoke of her horror after being trolled online over her appearance.

Alex openly joked about her changed appearance
Twitter

The star was known for her love of tiny pink outfits, fake tan and heavy make-up – but she’s dropped it all in the years since the show, and looks totally different now.

She went on to have lip fillers, eyebrow and lip tattoos, facial fillers, Botox, and top-of-the-range hair extensions, as well as liposuction on her stomach in 2013.

Alex previously revealed to The Sun that she overhauled her image after watching herself back in the 2011 series, and being left feeling “horrified” by her appearance.

She even appeared on Snog Marry Avoid to try to ditch the Barbie look once and for all.

“At the time I thought I was girlie and glam, but watching it back I saw myself as ugly, overweight and disgustingly tacky in head-to-toe pink,” she previously said.

“I was mortified and cancelled all public appearances. I even stopped going out.

“Instead, I stayed in to read the comments about me online.”

The Cottages at Osoyoos – A Look Behind the Scenes

When we talk about The Cottages at Osoyoos, you’ve probably heard us say many times over that one of the most amazing things about The Cottages is the homeowners and the sense of community! Here are some of our favorite stories from homeowners at The Cottages!

The Cottages at Osoyoos

Frank & Donna

Frank and Donna first came to The Cottages on a recommendation from Donna’s sister. They were looking for a spot with mild winters and a rural atmosphere that was both kid and pet-friendly. The plan was to use this as a vacation home and rent out the space during the year when not in use. The couple fell in love with The Cottages and it became their permanent home after Frank was able to find a good job nearby! Donna love the theatre, music and arts events available to the community. The couple also loves the outdoors, spending time swimming, hiking, engaging in water sports and enjoying the sunshine. They also enjoy access to locally grown organic meats and produce, wineries and bakeries. And last but not least, they love the villages closeness within this private, gated community. “We have had potluck dinners, a summer parade, beach side bonfires and a Thanksgiving feast,” Donna remarks!

The Cottages at Osoyoos

Linda & Charlie

Linda and Charlie lived just 20 kms north of Osoyoos Lake but they were looking to downsize into a smaller home with a simpler lifestyle. The Cottages at Osoyoos was the perfect answer; maintenance free living in a brand new home means they no longer have to worry about yard work or home renovations! The couple also enjoys access to the fitness room, pools/hot tub and 1,800 sq. ft of waterfront. Being close to both Osoyoos and Oliver allows them to remain active and enjoy local clubs and classes. In between, they often entertain as family and friends love the resort atmosphere that The Cottages offers.

The Cottages at Osoyoos

Jeff & Cindy

A busy professional couple, Jeff and Cindy were living in North Vancouver and owned a condo in Osoyoos when development in the area caused them to lose their “water view” and they went looking for an alternative. There were many things that the couple loved about The Cottages. Their lot is close to both the beach and the clubhouse with unobstructed views and they were able to customize their chosen home plan to take advantage of the views! The Cottages at Osoyoos offers an all-around community style of living with lots of permanent residents so it is not a “weekend summer party resort”. “Our neighbors are lovely. Everyone is respectful of each other’s privacy,” says Cindy.

Who needs water anyway? Take a look at these beautiful deserts

There is something beautiful about the desert. It is almost completely silent, with only the whistling of the wind providing any sounds. These are the places of legends and dreamers, and where only the toughest are able to flourish.

With a serene beauty, these places are unique both as biodomes and in and of themselves.

The Namib

The Namib is a beautiful, expansive desert which goes up and down the coast of Africa’s southern Atlantic shore, stretching 1,200 miles from Angola all the way to South Africa.

Meaning “the vast place” in the local Nama language, the desert is primarily sand dunes and has almost no human habitation in it whatsoever. Yet many animals have adapted to the tough, dry conditions, thriving in the heat. These animals include sidewinder snakes and a whole lot of beetles.

The coast of this desert is called the “skeleton coast” due to the fact that there are thousands of ships beached on the shores. There are no ports in this vast desert, so when trouble struck out on the open ocean, the sailors of these ships sailed straight for – and into land. They then left their ships to be taken over by the elements.

The Negev

The Negev comprises the entire southern region of Israel, taking up over 50 percent of the country. The desert has been conquered and reconquered innumerable times throughout the millennia.

Along with beautiful rock formations and incredible hiking trails, one can find ruins from the ancient Hebrews, ancient Egyptians, ancient Greeks, the Romans, and many others here.

Coming from the Hebrew root word meaning “to dry out,” the Negev is actually full of natural springs and wildlife. There are also lots of people living in this desert, from Bedouin Arab nomads to people living in towns dotted all across the landscape.

The Thar

The Thar is a beautiful desert located on the border between India and Pakistan, and has some of the most magical scenery in the world. The desert is also densely populated for how dry the area is, and has a rich and storied history going back thousands of years.

In fact, this desert has played a huge role in human history, specifically in the history of people living in the desert. For instance, it turns out that camels are indigenous to the Thar desert. The people living in this area were the first in the world to domesticate the animal who then went on to sell them to various civilizations throughout the millennia.

Additionally, Roma are thought to have originated from this desert. Having split off from the Dom people during their migration out of the Thar desert approximately 1,000 years ago, the Roma now live all over the world.

The Danakil

This magnificent looking desert is located in the Afar region of northern Ethiopia and is situated on the border with Djibouti and Eritrea. This desert is actually a natural depression on the African continent which is caused by the African continental plate moving away from the Asian continental plate.

The beautiful colors seen here are the result of various hydrothermal vents depositing minerals into the soil.

One of these minerals is salt. For thousands of years salt has been worth more than its weight in gold, and the people who live in this desert – called the Afar people – have been mining salt for over 4,000 years, transporting the valuable mineral via camel to markets all over Ethiopia.

The Sonora

This desert is known for its huge saguaro cactuses as well as its rolling red hills and scrubland. Despite being a desert, snow routinely dusts this beautiful landscape which borders the Gulf of California and crosses between Arizona and Mexico.

Many people have lived and become captivated by this beautiful desert, including seventeen native American tribes, as well as being home to both Phoenix and Tucson Arizona.

Although people don’t typically use camels or see huge sand dunes in this desert, the red rock formations, as well as the greenery which arrives during the winter and spring, are definitely worth the trip!
