Westminster Debate on U.K. Fur Ban Takes Shape, Backed by Stella McCartney

LONDON — The fur debate continues to unravel in the U.K. with the Labour party now demanding a total fur ban in the country, during a debate held today at Westminster.
Ahead of the debate, designer Stella McCartney wrote an open letter in support of the cause.
In her letter, McCartney highlights the recent shift in attitude toward fur as an indication that the country needs to take a step further and ban fur, to reflect the public sentiment.
“Over the past few years countless brands and designers have woken up to the unequivocal cruelty of the fur industry and have subsequently stopped using fur in their collections. More than 80 percent of British people believe it is unacceptable to buy or sell any animal fur. The world is moving in a more positive direction and it is time for the UK to take the vital next step,” wrote the designer, who has never used fur or leather in her collections.
McCartney added that she sees the U.K.’s current policy of banning fur farming 20 years ago yet allowing fur imports into the country as “hypocritical and unacceptable” and addressed the argument that real fur is a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly option to its

Meghan Markle, the New Duchess of Sussex, Wears Stella McCartney Dress to Wedding Dinner

CALLING STELLA: Having chosen a Givenchy Haute Couture dress by Clare Waight Keller for her walk down the aisle Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, turned to yet another female British designer to dress her on her wedding day: Stella McCartney.

“I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” said McCartney. “It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.”
Markle changed into a sleeveless white silk crepe gown with a high collar for the black-tie dinner being hosted by Prince Charles at Frogmore House in Windsor. She paired the dress with Aquazurra satin shoes with baby blue soles.
The clean lines and silk fabric of the Stella dress echoed the minimal, unembellished design she wore for her walk down the aisle.

Stella McCartney to Be Honored by David Lynch Foundation

The second annual David Lynch Foundation Women of Vision luncheon will honor Stella McCartney and Fern Mallis on May 8. Proceeds from the lunch will go directly toward funding a New York initiative to teach 1,000 women who are survivors of domestic violence to meditate.
Founded in 2005, the David Lunch Foundation works to bring transcendental meditation to people including rape victims, veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, inner-city students, homeless and incarcerated adults and juveniles. Since its inception last year, the Women of Vision luncheon benefits women and children who are survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
McCartney and Mallis will receive humanitarian awards for their contributions to the fashion industry and support of women in need. The jeweler Alex and Ani will sponsor the event; the brand carries a “meditating eye” collection, designed with David Lynch, which donates 20 percent of each purchase to the foundation.

EXCLUSIVE: Stella McCartney Takes the Plunge Into Men’s Swimwear

STAR OF THE SEA: Stella McCartney is plunging into men’s swimwear with a debut collection that launches Tuesday in partnership ISA SpA, the Italian textile manufacturer, WWD has learned.
Animal and tropical prints — including a jaunty parrot one — from the ready-to-wear collection, star embroidery and a geometric pattern have been cast onto boxers, briefs, rash guards, cover-ups, towels and sustainable beach totes made in Kenya. The color palette includes lavender, yellow, blush pink and bottle green for the organic cotton and recycled nylon fabrics.
McCartney said because she designs swimwear for women, it was only right that she should do the same for men, and that launching the collection felt like a natural progression.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to broaden the men’s collection. I wanted to explore an area of a man’s wardrobe that is important and is perhaps slightly under-designed at times. And I wanted to bring the personality of the man into swimwear, so the relationship of the man and the woman on the beach has consistency.”
The collection will drop at the designer’s boutiques and on her web site and will also be stocked at stores including Harrods, Matchesfashion.com and Mr Porter. Prices range from 155 pounds to 255 pounds for
