Lin-Manuel Miranda and James Corden Stripped Down on the Crosswalk to Do Their Best Hair

Leave it to Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton and In the Heights fame to bring back the Age of Aquarius in the latest installment of Crosswalk the Musical with James Corden. The two harkened back to the groovy sixties, alongside their committed cohort of actors, for a reenactment of the famous 1960’s rock musical Hair. Included in the action: flowing wigs, beaded headbands and — yes — nudity.

So, why Hair?

“Hair tells the story of — it’s — it’s the sixties,” Corden tries to explain. “It’s in the sixties, and it’s hippie culture, and there’s a war. I think there’s a war, or there’s been a war? … It’s wigs and nudity. It’s a lot of wigs and a lot of nudity.”

Miranda, however, is clearly excited for the drama to unfold on the streets. “In a lot of ways, I feel like everything I’ve ever done has been leading up to this point,” he deadpans in the intro. “In the seven years I was writing Hamilton, all I could think was, ‘If this is big enough, I might get on the crosswalk,’” Miranda joked.

Watch the two perform “Age of Aquarius,” “Let the Sunshine In” and more in the midst of mildly confused and annoyed L.A. drivers, above. Prepare for tie-dye backdrops, bellbottoms galore, and some serious Corden-Miranda bromance.

‘Hamilton’s’ Miranda, Music, and Mobile Equals Business Marketing Magic

The year was 2009. As the story goes, the White House invited a 30-year-old Broadway actor to perform lines from his current production, but this request was a little different than usual. According to NPR, the invitation also gave Lin-Manuel Miranda the option of performing anything else he might want in “the American tradition.”

(Lin-Manuel Miranda. Image: Flickr/Steve Jurvetson)

This was his shot, and he took it.

Miranda performed bars from what would become the hottest Broadway ticket in town. It was a musical that blended turn-of-the century costumes and staging with a story as old as our country—with unapologetic hip-hop.

Miranda’s performance was well received that night at the White House, according to recounts. The run on Broadway for a show called Hamilton was epic. President Barack Obama even attended the show in New York City some years later.

Millennials, Mobile, and Music

A millennial successfully infused a cultural phenomenon that originated in the broken down warehouses and basements of New York boroughs in the late ’70s into a mainstream, high-brow mainstay in upscale Manhattan in 2015.

The result was something bigger.

Hamilton grossed more than $ 209 million in ticket sales since it debuted in 2015 according to The soundtrack blazed on streaming services reaching an even broader and more multicultural audience. The album went platinum about a year after the curtain raised, according to Mashable.

Mobile would take this inspiring narrative to the masses.

Turn Up the Volume

I recently had the pleasure of speaking at Spotify headquarters in New York City, thanks to the team at Brand-Innovators. My topic was reaching the new mass market with mobile and music.

I walked on stage to one of the most popular cuts from the Hamilton soundtrack, “My Shot,” and shared the story of Miranda’s breakthrough to make my case: that millennials, mobile, and music are an important mix for marketing to the new mass market.

I shared with the Fortune 500 marketers gathered at the music streaming company that they could turn up the volume on efforts to reach and resonate with the new mass market where trends are largely driven by the millennial culture.

Here are three keys:

  1. Infuse popular music into mainstream efforts. The new mass market is dominated by young people, and music, as a cultural nuance, wins. Young people are reaching for their mobile devices to connect to what inspires them, and the No. 1 inspiring content they reach for is music, according to AT&T Inspired Mobility research. In fact, according to a recent Revolt TV study, there is one genre young people agree on.  According to Forbes, everyone, in fact, agrees on hip-hop.
  2. Leverage mobile platforms. Expanding your reach means taking your content to the people, wherever they are, whenever they demand it. Whether you want to reach the multicultural content omnivore, or you’re wanting to expand your multicultural marketing efforts, mobile streaming or social media content delivery methods are paramount. Mobile social media is where culture converges.
  3. Let millennials lead. Black culture drives pop culture, according to Nielsen research. So if the most multicultural adult generation is currently millennials, and black millennials are leading the way on all things trendy and digital, then tracking trends in their space could lead to the insight you need to have a breakout campaign. I am also a champion of inclusion marketing. It’s a practice that starts with the DNA of your team to impact marketing outcomes in time for this new mass market. Empowering millennials to not just contribute to concepts, but to drop a few “bars” in your planning meetings could lead you down more creative and strategic paths. As noted, one such encounter in the White House led to something big.

Take Cues from Miranda: Culture Invites Everyone In

If you’re thinking that a large dose of culture can be alienating, think again. I continually share that culture is the DNA of diversity, and it is also an invitation to inclusiveness.   Consider that Hamilton, with its majority brown and black cast, played to a majority white audience night after night.

Creators seem to be leading the way in taking content multicultural.

Brands must look to the creators for insights on how to leverage storytelling and cultural nuances to connect and engage in this new reality, a browning America.

Miranda Kerr looked like one of Hollywood’s beauty icons at her May wedding to Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel.

While the former Victoria’s Secret model has no problem strutting down the catwalk in lingerie, she gave Vogue the first look at her demure wedding gown, a long-sleeved satin creation with appliquéd lilies by Dior Haute Couture.

She said the look was inspired by Grace Kelly’s iconic dress at her 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco.

“A dress that fully covers you creates a sense of purity and mystery,” said Kerr. “I’ve had a lot of fun with fashion, and I used to be more wild, free, bohemian. But in this period of my life, my style is more pulled back. My greatest sources of inspiration have always been Grace, Audrey Hepburn, and my grandmother, who at 80 has an effortless chic: a nice pant, a white blouse, a scarf, a little heel.”

The model, 34, met with Dior’s first-ever female artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, just months after Spiegel proposed in July 2016 to see if she was up for the job. Chiuri agreed, making Kerr’s dress the first bridal gown she did for the fashion house.

RELATED VIDEO: Miranda Kerr Marries Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel

Chiuri drove to Kerr and Spiegel’s beach house in Los Angeles a few weeks before the wedding for the final fitting.

“I have to be honest — she’s not a difficult fit,” the designer shared. “She wanted something like a fairy tale, and she gave me this idea, to make a dress that was emotional and simple at the same time.”

The intimate 45-guest wedding at their home also fit that description.

Kerr and Spiegel threw the idea of not seeing the bride until she walked down the aisle out the door, opting instead to start their big day with an hour of yoga together.

The model entered to the strains of Arvo Pärt’s “Spiegel im Spiegel,” and cried as she recited her vows.

There was no bridal party, although Kerr’s 6 -year-old son Flynn from her previous relationship with Orlando Bloom served as ring bearer.

Kerr even managed to cook her one her husband’s favorite meals, slow-roasted chicken with turmeric and lemon, for their wedding meal. A caterer replicated her menu for the rest of the guests.

It Appears Miranda Kerr And Fiancé Evan Spiegel Are Waiting To Have Sex

It looks like Miranda Kerr and her fiancé Evan Spiegel are sticking to sexy Snapchats.

The model insinuated that she and her betrothed are waiting to have sex until after the wedding in a recent interview with UK paper The Times.

It all came out during an exchange about methods of birth control, after Kerr admitted that she wasn’t using protection. When the interviewer asked whether or not she was planning to have another baby, the model explained: “Not yet. Not until after we get married. My partner is very traditional.”

“We can’t… I mean we’re just… waiting,” she continued.

The apparent decision to wait is reminiscent of another celebrity couple, singer Ciara and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who didn’t have sex until their wedding night.

Spiegel and Kerr were first reported to be dating in 2015 and made their red carpet debut in February 2016. Just a few months later, the two announced their engagement in July, using a Snapchat filter of course.

I said yes!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Watch Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Sing His Hilarious Moana Song (by Lin-Manuel Miranda!)

Moana rode the waves of critical acclaim to a $ 81.1 million five-day box office total this Thanksgiving holiday weekend. But for those who didn’t get a chance to see the animated Polynesian adventure, Disney has released video of one of the musical’s biggest numbers: “You’re Welcome.”

The tune — written by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda — is reminiscent of the Pulitzer Prize winner’s history-making musical. In addition to its catchy melody, there’s also a quick-rhymed rap breakdown halfway through the number that will have fans hanging on every word.

And yes, that’s really Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson singing on the track. PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive voices Maui, the demigod who, according to the song, is pretty much responsible for everything on earth — from the tides to the sunshine the days itself.

Johnson grew up singing, so the notes weren’t that much a stretch for the former wrestler.

“Generally in Polynesian culture, we’re raised on singing and playing guitar or ukulele and dancing and singing,” he told PEOPLE. “Some of the coolest things I think about Polynesian men is that they are so massive and so big but yet they have the most beautiful falsetto voices and it’s extremely off-putting when you see them at first. It’s not what you expect.”

RELATED VIDEO: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Lullaby Will Completely Soothe You

While Moana may be the first time Johnson has sung on film, the 44-year-old often sings one sweet song for his 11-month-old baby girl, Jasmine.

“It’s a special lullaby,” he told PEOPLE of the Polynesian song.

“When my daughter Simone, who is now 15 years old, was 8 9 months old too, I would sing it to her,” he added. “She would laugh, she would smile, she would coo, she would cry.”

When his daughters aren’t around, Johnson’s singing doesn’t stop.

“I sing everything and anything that comes to mind — but to be clear, songs I know that I can kill,” he told PEOPLE. “That’s what I sing. I don’t try material out in the shower. I’m like, ah, Sam Cooke, got it, got it. ‘You-ooh-ooh-ooh send me.’ ”

Moana is in theaters now.

This Is Miranda Lambert And Blake Shelton’s Definition Of ‘Us’ Time

It’s not easy for country superstars Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton to find alone time between their nonstop careers and hectic touring schedules.

“We gotta schedule it in,” Lambert told HuffPost Live’s Ricky Camilleri when she sat down with him on Thursday.

So how does the country-singing couple unwind in their downtime? In pretty much the most country way possible:

“We backroad — we take our cooler, we take our dogs, we ride four-wheelers and we just sit on the porch. We started fishing because it’s spring now,” Lambert said.

“That’s why we live where we live [in Oklahoma],” she added. “Because it’s absolutely opposite of our crazy life on the road.”
