Movie About Notorious B.I.G. Murder Pulled A Month Before Release

Twenty-one years after the unsolved murder of Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace we’re no closer to finding out who killed him (or Tupac). A movie about LAPD officer Russell Poole’s attempt to find out the truth first changed titles and now it appears its been shelved. Whether indefinitely or not remains to be seen.

Johnny Depp, who was to star as Poole, has had his fair share of issues lately which may be a factor. Depp’s financial misadventures were detailed in a suit his business managers filed against him, which was recently settled. Forest Whitaker and Snowfall’s Amin Joseph, along with Soul Food actor Rockmund Dunbar were also in the movie.

Vulture.com reports:

The actor’s true-crime drama City of Lies, in which he stars as LAPD detective Russell Poole haunted by the rapper’s unsolved murder, has been pulled from its scheduled release date of September 7 by Global Road Entertainment.

While there is currently no indication the incident is connected to the delay, an altercation on the film’s set has since lead to a lawsuit against Depp. According to City of Lies location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, Depp allegedly “punched him in the torso” when he attempted to inform the actor filming was running over the production’s approved on-location hours. Depp then allegedly demanded of Brooks, “I will give you $ 100,000 to punch me in the face right now!” before security intervened.

Whitaker plays the journalist who teams up with Poole. The movie is based on the non-fiction book LAbyrinth, written by Randall Sullivan, that uncovered the corruption in the LAPD associated with the investigation of the Notorious B.I.G. murder. The book alleges that Marion “Suge” Knight arranged the deaths of both Biggie and Tupac, with the aid of the LAPD.

Poole, who continued to investigate after retiring from the LAPD, partly in protest of the department’s handling of the case, died of a sudden heart attack in 2015.

Here is the film’s trailer:

Here’s who from Murder House is returning for American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and hold onto your rubber suits

Here’s who from Murder House is returning for American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and hold onto your rubber suits

Here’s who from Murder House is returning for American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and hold onto your rubber suits

Have you spent the last seven years of your life wondering whatever happened to li’l baby Michael? You know, that adorable (demon) baby, the child of the very alive Vivien Harmon and the very dead Tate? You know, that baby! That baby who killed his babysitter, while Jessica Lang coo’ed and caa’ed at it. Wondering what’s happened to Michael Langdon? Well, wonder no more, because he’s officially coming back for American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

All along, Ryan Murphy has dropped clues as to how each season of his anthology series are connected to one another. Some are pretty obvious (like Pepper popping up in both Asylum and Freak Show) while others are subtle (like Madison Montgomery having the same last name as the OG owners of Murder House). Well, the biggest connection is finally here, as Murphy has revealed that a very adult Michael Langdon is returning for Season 8.

Posting to Twitter Thursday afternoon, the showrunner dropped the big news:

FX

And since Murphy always loves to keep it in the family, he’s filling the role of Michael with Cody Fern, who played David Madson on American Crime Story: Versace. That means we’re somehow picking up roughly 15 to 20-ish years after the events of Murder House, which introduced us to a 3-year-old Michael. Murphy has already revealed that the events of Apocalypse take place 18 months in the future — whatever that’s supposed to mean.

Season 8 of the series, which is set to premiere in September, is the long-awaited “crossover season.” As for which seasons are crossing over? Well, Murder House is one of them, and the other is Coven. Long-time AHS cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are set to return, playing brand new characters. As for returning characters, in addition to adult Michael, Emma Roberts will reprise her role as Madison, originally seen in Season 3’s Coven.

While all of this is great, and it’s super exciting, one very important question remains: WHERE IS JESSICA LANGE? The AHS queen hasn’t been seen since Season 4’s Freak Show. And listen, last time we saw baby Michael, he was being watched over by next-door neighbor Constance. It only makes sense that she’d be back for Season 8 now, right? We can’t have the Apocalypse without Ms. Lange.

Feds Reopen the Emmett Till Murder Case Citing ‘New Information’

The U.S. Department of Justice is reopening the murder case of Emmett Till 63 years after the 14-year-old African American teen was brutally murdered for allegedly whistling at a white woman in Mississippi. Federal officials announced Thursday that it launched an investigation into the case based on “new information” that it received about Till’s 1955 kidnapping, torture, and murder.

News that the DOJ was reopening Till’s case was first reported by the Associated Press after the Justice Department sent a report to Congress in March under the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crimes Reauthorization Act of 2016, a bill authorized by President Barack Obama that grants feds with the ability to investigate unsolved civil rights murders before 1970.

While details about the new developments have not been disclosed, new revelations about Till’s death were published in the 2017 book The Blood of Emmett Till by historian Timothy B. Tyson.

Till was a native of Chicago visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi, when he was accused of making sexual advances toward Carolyn Donham, 21, at a grocery store. Her then-husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother J.W. Milam were charged with killing Till but were acquitted by an all-white jury. Bryant and Milam later admitted to a reporter the next year that they beat and shot the teen before dumping his body in the Tallahatchie River. They were not retried due to double jeopardy laws.

Donham, who was known as Carolyn Bryant at the time, also admitted that she fabricated the story about Till in The Blood of Emmett Till. “Nothing that boy did could ever justify what happened to him,” the book quotes her as saying. She currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and will turn 84 this month.

Rep. Bobby L. Rush, a Democratic congressman who urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reopen the case last year, released a statement Thursday applauding the announcement.

I am glad to see the federal government following through on this request. This case is not only critically important for the role it played in sparking the Civil Rights movement, but so that Emmett and his family receive the justice that is owed to them. It is vital that everyone — both victims and perpetrators — knows that heinous crimes of this nature will never go unpunished.

He added, Even today, the crime that he was a victim of, lynching, is still not illegal under federal law

Although justice was never served, Till’s vicious killing was a pivotal catalyst in the launch of the civil rights movement. Till’s cousin told USA TODAY that her family is “extremely pleased” the DOJ has reopened the investigation into his death. “We want the process to work and we want justice to prevail for Emmett. This cannot just be forgotten.”

Wedding Deejay Arrested for the Brutal 1992 Rape and Murder of School Teacher Christy Mirack

Pennsylvania police made an arrest in the death of school teacher Christy Mirack 25 years after her murder.

Raymond “DJ Freez” Rowe, 49, was arrested on Monday afternoon at his home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and was charged with criminal homicide.

Mirack was 25 years old and a sixth-grade teacher at Rohrerstown Elementary School. She was found dead in her home on December 21, 1992. Her death rocked her community and has remained a cold case for over two decades.

“The killer was at liberty for this brutal crime longer than Christy Mirack was on this earth alive. His apprehension was long overdue,” Lancaster District Attorney Craig Stedman told reporters at a press conference Monday.

Mirack was found dead in her home by the principal of her school who went to her home as he was concerned when she did not show up for work.

According to the District Attorney, the young teacher has been sexually assaulted, her clothes were pushed down from her waist, her shirt pushed up and it was clear a struggle had taken place.

Mirack was wearing her jacket and gloves and that, combined with scuff marks, led authorities to believe she had been dragged back into the home, Stedman said.

Mirack was strangled to death but she sustained a “brutal beating” to the point her “face was distorted,” he added.

At the time, authorities took a DNA sample from her body and the carpet underneath the body, which had fluids from the alleged attacker.

For years authorities did not find a match to that DNA. But, according to Stedman, that changed when the DNA sample was matched to a relative of Rowe who had uploaded their DNA to a database on genealogy website GEDmatch – the same site which was involved in the Golden State Killer’s arrest.

However, that alone was not enough for an arrest, so the deejay was put under surveillance. In late May, undercover investigators collected used chewing gum and a water bottle they claim Rowe used while working as a deejay at an event at a school, Steadman said at the press conference.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Police concluded the DNA found in the gum and bottle were a match to the DNA taken from the scene, he added.

Stedman also said Rowe “was not on our radar” as the alleged killer before his arrest.

Rowe works as a deejay predominately at weddings, school proms and has even worked at charity events raising money to help female victims of violence.

However, he also claims to have worked as a deejay for celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Brooke Hogan, as well as at events featuring Sting, The Eagles and Kenny Kravitz, according to his website.

Rowe is currently being held in Lancaster County Prison and is not eligible for bail.

This isn’t the first time an arrest in a cold case was made after DNA was submitted to a genealogy site. California police arrested former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo for crimes he committed as the notorious Golden State Killer in April.

A police source told PEOPLE at the time that DeAngelo was caught through “sophisticated” DNA analysis, but said he was not on the radar of police. At the press conference, police said DeAngelo was linked to DNA evidence six days before his arrest.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said that authorities surveilled DeAngelo and recovered “discarded DNA” that allegedly confirmed the suspect’s connection to the killings.

Frances Bean Cobain’s Ex Sues Courtney Love for Attempted Murder Over Kurt Cobain Guitar

Frances Bean Cobain ex-husband, Isaiah Silva, is suing her mother, Courtney Love, claiming she had people “attempt to murder” him to get back the late Kurt Cobain’s guitar, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly.

Silva, who was married to Frances from 2014 until their divorce was finalized last year, filed the suit against Love on May 25 for an alleged accident from June 2016. He claims in the documents that Britney Spearscontroversial ex-manager Sam Lutfi and two other men “did burglarize, rob, assault, batter, sexually batter, kidnap, and attempt to murder [him]” at his West Hollywood home.

“The primary objective of their conspiracy was to locate and take possession of a guitar believed to be worth millions of dollars, which was gifted to Silva, by [Frances], on January 8, 2014, six months prior to their June 29, 2014 marriage,” the documents allege.

TMZ reported earlier this month that the former couple’s divorce was finally settled, six months after it was finalized, and one of the conditions of the settlement was Kurt’s Martin guitar, which he played during an MTV Unplugged performance in November 1993, months before his death by suicide in April 1994.

Silva also makes other accusations in the lawsuit, including claims that the three men who allegedly attacked him also attacked his mother. He also alleges that Lutfi delivered “narcotics and illicit benzodiazepines” to Frances.

“The narcotics and illicit benzodiazepine were hidden to ensure Silva was unaware of the secret drug-related business relationship between Lutfi and [Frances],” the documents read.

Frances is the only child of Love and Kurt, who were married from 1992 until the Nirvana rocker’s death in 1994.

While Mother’s Day was being celebrated in the United States, Canada and Australia, a gruesome “celebration” of another kind took place in Indonesia: three nearly simultaneous suicide attacks on three separate churches in Surabaya, all carried out by the members of the same family.

The wave of carnage aimed at killing morning service goers rocked the Indonesian city, killing at least 11 people, and injuring another 40, adn people around the world asked how a mother, Puji Kuswanti, could strap bombs on herself as well as on the bodies of her two daughters, Fadila Sari, 12, and Pamela Rizkita, nine, and take them to the Diponegoro Indonesian Christian Church to blow themselves and others up.

Meanwhile, the family’s sons, Yusuf, 18, and Alif, 16, rode motorcycles into Santa Maria Catholic Church, and detonated explosives they were carrying. Their father, Dita Sopriyanto, drove his bomb-laden car into the grounds of Surabaya Centre Pentecostal Church where he self-detonated.

Suge Knight’s post-Death Row Records struggle life continues as the New York Daily News is reporting that the former H.N.I.C. was transferred to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center on Tuesday (April 3) and remained there until Thursday morning.

At a criminal court hearing last month Knight, 52, complained about his deteriorating health with the judge overseeing his murder case offered to sign a medical order submitted by his lawyer. Relatives of Suge told the Daily News that Knight suffered from dangerous blood clots and even had an emergency appendix surgery in March 2016.

Since his arrest for a fatal hit-and-run in 2015, Knight has been rushed to the hospital multiple times by ambulance and this most recent one is just the latest. Knight has pleaded not guilty to the charge insisting he was the victim of an ambush. Suge is currently on his 16th lawyer after his last counsel was hit with accessory to murder charges.

Suge is due back in court on April 23.

A Decades-Old Murder Investigation Exposes the Ugly Truth About Racism in America

Grasshopper Film

Did You Wonder Who Fired the Gun? is, in the words of director Travis Wilkerson, a “white nightmare story.” And indeed, the sensation of watching Wilkerson’s film is not unlike experiencing a nightmare, complete with ghosts and the feeling of being slowly subsumed by an awful, unresolved evil. Though the story is his, it’s also a reflection of America’s past and present, and the parts of American history that are so often glossed over in favor of a cleaner, more wholesome picture.

In 1946, S.E. Branch, Wilkerson’s great-grandfather, murdered Bill Spann. Branch was charged with murder, but nothing came of it. He was never convicted, never jailed. In other words, he got away with it. The reason why: Spann was black.

In the intervening years, the story became a family legend, hidden away and rarely discussed. So why has Wilkerson chosen to unearth it all now? As he explains at the beginning of his film, it had been on his mind in the wake of Trayvon Martin’s murder, as the outcome of the case mirrored what he’d heard about his great-grandfather. Once again, a killer had gotten off scot-free. Placed throughout Wilkerson’s film are interstitials featuring the names of black men and women (among them, Sean Bell and Sandra Bland, each accompanied with the plea to say their name) who were killed with virtually no repercussions. The case of S.E. Branch and Bill Spann isn’t an isolated incident nor is it a product of the times: It’s still happening today.

Idol Winner Fantasia Barrino’s Nephew Killed in Shooting, Suspect Charged with First-Degree Murder

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino‘s nephew was killed in a shooting Tuesday in North Carolina.

Tyquan Von Ricco Washington was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the road in front of a home in Greensboro, N.C., according to the Greensboro Police Department.

While paramedics tried to save Washington, the 18-year-old was pronounced dead at Moses Cone Hospital.

Police allege the teen was shot during a dispute between himself and 21-year-old David Lee White, Jr.

Hours after Washington’s death, White was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Guilford County Jail without bond, according to police.

The American Idol season 3 winner shared a photo of her nephew on Instagram shortly after the news, writing, “Ty 😢 Auntie is So Sorry Baby 💔 RIP to my Oldest Nephew Please Pray for his Mother and my Brother @riccobarrino & his Stepdad.”

Washington’s father, Ricco Barrino, a recording artist, wrote an emotional letter to his late son on Instagram, reflecting on the special moments he witnessed as his son grew up.

“Dear son I needed to write this sooner but it’s funny how life make you aware of your own unconscious procrastinations. I wanted you to know that from the depths of my heart your daddy loves you and he always has,” Barrino wrote.

“I remember holding you for the first time that’s when I knew that I had to do something other than work in somebody’s factory so that one day you could look up to me,” he continued. “As I write this letter with tears streaming down my face I want you to know that I showed you tough love because I knew you were something special.”

“I never forget the first time that me and your mother took you to gymnastics for tryouts. I remember the lady walking over to us and telling us that we would have to wait behind a long list of other kids lol I guess she didn’t know what my kid was capable of because when she turned around she spotted you turning somersaults as if you were in the US Olympics,” Barrino, whose real name is Kassim Vonricco Washington, added.

Barrino continued, “I knew you were special when all the older kids wanted to hang with you. I knew you were leader at that moment and All the way up to your first big 18th birthday.”

The musician wrote about feeling proud of his son on his birthday and “telling everybody in the studio that my son is finally becoming a man.”

“I wanted to be there every day for you and there wasn’t a day that went by I didn’t wonder where you were,” he wrote. “Well on this day you became a bigger man when you put on a pair of wings and did what I have yet to do. So you show me your leadership skills. you go join hands with your grandma and kiss for me. You sing loud for me up there. Love dad🌹R.i.p T.W”

ROME—Luca Traini, 28, wrapped an Italian flag around his neck, grabbed his Glock and got into his black Alfa Romeo 147 with one apparent motive: to shoot African migrants.

He then drove street to street around the small town of Macerata, shooting five men and one woman, injuring two seriously, before police were able to stop the shooting spree in front of the town’s monument to fallen soldiers. There, he then got out of his car, gave the Fascist salute and admitted to the crime, say police.

Traini, a muscled-up sometime boxer who ran for a local political post under the banner of Italy’s far-right Northern League party in 2017, had told his friends at the gym a day earlier, “I have a pistol and I’m not afraid to use it,” according to local Italian media reports.

As the story goes, Hussein K has already admitted his involvement, though some details regarding the murder still remain fuzzy. Incidentally, Hussein K refused to provide the pin code of his iPhone to investigators, thus prompting authorities to outsource the task to a Munich-based security firm which managed to hack into the device.

Former NBA Star Lorenzen Wright’s Ex-Wife Arrested In Connection With His Murder

There’s been an arrest in the murder case of NBA player Lorenzen Wright.

Seven years after Wright’s bullet-riddled body was found decomposing in a Tennessee suburb, Sherra Wright Robinson, his ex-wife, was arrested Friday night in Riverside, Calif., reports Fox13.

“Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! They got her! They got her!’’ Lorenzen Wright’s mother, Deborah Marion, told a reporter. She added: “They need to bury her.’’

Marion said police confirmed the arrest to her. She said got a call from Memphis police and went with her family to police headquarters. Marion says a police official told her Sherra will be charged with first-degree murder.

As we reported earlier, Billy Turner — a deacon at the church Lorenzen and Sherra Wright attended — was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty.

“It’s just those two right now,’’ Marion said. “But they’re still working on it.’’

Wright, who was 34 when he died, played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and LA Clippers among other teams, was last seen alive on July 18, 2010, as he left his ex-wife’s home.

Here’s what we reported about the case in 2010:

A law enforcement source confirmed to the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper the body was that of Wright, who has been missing since July 19, though the Memphis Police Department won’t officially comment. Police are referring to their investigation as a “death investigation.”

Wright recently flew from Atlanta to Memphis to visit friends and his six children, friends said.

According to sources, a 9-1-1 call was made from Wright’s cell phone on July 19. A fire dispatcher could hear the loud blasts of several gunshots. The cellphone call ended at that point.
Later it was learned that dispatchers didn’t alert patrol officers or commanders because they couldn’t confirm it came from their jurisdiction. They didn’t send a patrol officer or relay the information to Memphis police until days later.

Wright’s mother filed a missing-person report with Collierville police on July 22, 2010. Authorities in Collierville were accused of dragging their feet in the days after the report was filed, and an apparent lack of communication kept authorities from linking the 911 call to the missing-person report.

Wright’s body was found in a field near some woods, complicating the investigation because evidence had likely deteriorated in the heat of Summer. An autopsy report showed bullet fragments were lodged in Wright’s skull, chest and right forearm.

The First Anti-Abortion Extremist To Murder An Abortion Provider Has Been Denied Parole

On Wednesday, a review board in Florida denied parole to convicted murderer Michael Griffin, who fatally shot Dr. David Gunn outside of a Pensacola clinic in 1993.

elmoree / Creative Commons

Dr. Gunn’s murder was a shock and a blow to the reproductive healthcare community; he was the first provider to be killed by an anti-abortion extremist. As a young OBG/YN, Dr. Gunn established a practice in Brewton, Alabama because of the area’s high infant mortality rate and went on to pioneer a technique for safely delivering breach babies that providers still use today. Years later he traveled to multiple cities and states where patients were lining up for services that there was no doctor to provide. At the time of his death, he was working in a community experiencing just such a shortage of doctors.

“He and his partner desired to serve the under served. They wanted to save lives,” David Gunn Jr. said. “[My dad had] an understanding that patients in need of abortion services deserve a compassionate, patient, understanding, non-judgmental and empathetic doctor as much as those who do not.”

An onslaught of violence against providers commenced after Griffin killed Dr. Gunn, and in the years since ten other people have since been killed in acts of anti-abortion violence. Dr. George Tiller was shot and wounded in 1993 and shot and killed in 2009; Shelley Shannon, who was convicted for the first assassination attempt, wrote letters of praise to Griffin. Dr. John Bayard Britton and his volunteer clinic escort. Lt. Col. James Barrett, were murdered in 1994, as were Planned Parenthood clinic workers Shannon Lowney and Leanne Nicholes. In 1995, Dr. Hugh Short was shot in his home.

Other assassination attempts—as well as stabbings, clinic bombings, bomb threats, arson, harassment and intimidation—continued throughout the 1990’s. The passage of the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act tampered, but has not stopped, the harassment and violence aimed at abortion providers. According to the 2016 National Clinic Violence Survey conducted by the Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project, 34.2 percent of U.S. abortion providers reported “severe violence or threats of violence” in just the first half of 2016—the highest number reported since 1995.

The parole board’s decision was praised by reproductive justice advocates, who said Griffin’s release could have been dangerous to providers. Griffin, who shot Dr. Gunn in the back three times, has since publicly made ominous statements about providers and has been upheld as a hero by other extremists.

“Though it is unlikely that he will ever make it out of prison and kill again,” Lady Parts Justice League said in a social media statement, “Griffin emboldened a dangerous movement, dedicated to causing harm to those who provide abortion care. Now more than ever, we must stay vigilant.”

Man accused of killing Muslim teen indicted on capital murder charges

A grand jury has formally charged a 22-year-old man with capital murder and rape in the death of Nabra Hassanen, who was killed on her walk back to a Virginia mosque.

The Fairfax County Circuit Court indicted Darwin Martinez-Torres of Sterling, Virginia, on Monday on four counts of capital murder for killing Nabra, who was with friends while they had a meal before Ramadan services. Dozens of people had gathered outside the courthouse today, chanting “Justice for Nabra.”

Virginia law has specific conditions for pursuing the death penalty, but the Associated Press reported that the grand jury’s indictment described in graphic detail how Nabra’s killing was grounds for a death penalty against Martinez-Torres. The indictment appears to acknowledge for the first time that the 17-year-old Muslim teen was raped. Under state law, the combination of a rape charge with a premeditated murder charge means the death penalty can be pursued.

Police have said that Martinez-Torres, who is an undocumented immigrant, got into a confrontation on June 18 with a group of teens walking back to the All Dulles Area Muslim Society after grabbing a late meal. He is accused of returning later and beating Nabra with a baseball bat. Police said Nabra’s body was later discovered in a pond. A search warrant affidavit revealed that Martinez-Torres admitted to killing Nabra and had led authorities to where he dumped her body, AP reported.

Nabra’s parents and Muslim advocates have said that Nabra’s death was motivated by hate, but police has said that they will not treat the killing as a hate crime. Instead, police have said it was a road rage incident.

“The reason this guy he hit my daughter is because she’s Muslim,” Nabra’s father Mahmoud Hassanen told WAMU. “Why [didn’t he] hit the boy who bothered him?”

Nabra’s father added that he hoped for the death penalty, while her mother said she wanted Martinez-Torres to serve life in prison.

“I just want people to remember her, and don’t forget her,” Mahmoud told WAMU. “I think nobody can forget her too, for what she did in her life.”

A preliminary hearing for Martinez-Torres reportedly turned emotional on Friday, with Nabra’s parents both shouting at the suspect in court. Nabra’s mother Sawsan Gazzar apparently threw a shoe at Martinez-Torres during the proceedings.

CNET is a great site, but every damn page of every damn article on the entire damn site autoplays a video when you load it. It’s infuriating, but readers won’t have to bear it for much longer. As noted in that wonderfully ironic tweet, Google has announced that an upcoming version of its wildly popular Chrome browser will block autoplay videos on webpages.

Life Comes At You Fast: Brooklyn Teen Charged for Murder After Scaring a Woman to Death During a Robbery

18-year-old Nia Williams has been charged with murder and robbery for a break-in that lead to the death of 68-year-old Brenda Ramos.

via NYDN:

Williams and two men busted into Ramos’ apartment on Kings Highway near E. 94th St. in Canarsie, and hit her at least once with a hammer — triggering a fatal heart attack, police said.

Ramos’ roommate, Joseph Alexander, 40, was also beaten before the thieves took off with his wallet, cell phone and a video game console, cops said.

“I was sleeping, next thing I woke up, I was in blood,” Alexander previously told the Daily News. “Brenda was on the floor knocked out. I called 911.”

Medics took Ramos to Brookdale University Hospital where she died. Alexander survived his injuries.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Ramos’ death a homicide in April, saying the hammer attack and fright during the hold-up caused her heart attack.

The bandits were captured on surveillance video leaving the building with a large duffel bag.

Williams’ accomplices remain at large.

He’ll happily tear into North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (right) in 140 characters on Twitter, but in spite of being taunted by the launching of ballistic missiles, disregard for UN sanctions and threats to “annihilate” the US, what is it that’s continued to stop President Donald Trump from launching a military attack on the dictatorship?

Perhaps it’s because he’s fully aware of exactly what sort of man the world is dealing with.

An example of the tetchy tyrant’s ruthlessness appeared to rear its deadly head on 13 February this year, when Jong-un’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam was assassinated at Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia using a banned chemical weapon, VX nerve agent.

The murder is thought to have been orchestrated by North Korean secret agents – but why?

This fascinating documentary meets people close to Jong-nam and uncovers a bitter family rivalry that’s just the tip of the iceberg in the Pyongyang palaces rife with paranoia, unpredictable brutality and very, very bad hairdressers.

U.S. court upends murder conviction of Blackwater contractor

WASHINGTON — A federal appeals court on Friday overturned the first-degree murder conviction of a former Blackwater security contractor, ordering a new trial for the man prosecutors say fired the first shots in the 2007 slayings of 14 Iraqi civilians at a crowded traffic circle in Baghdad.

In a split opinion, the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia Circuit ruled a lower court erred by not allowing Nicholas Slatten to be tried separately from his three co-defendants in 2014. The 33-year-old contractor from Tennessee is serving a life sentence for his role in the killings, which strained international relations and drew intense scrutiny of the role of American contractors in the Iraq War.

The court also ordered new sentences for the three other contractors, Paul Slough, Evan Liberty and Dustin Herd. They were each found guilty of manslaughter and firearms charges carrying mandatory 30-year terms.

The judges determined those sentences violated the constitutional prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment because prosecutors charged them with using military firearms while committing another felony. That statute, typically employed against gang members or bank robbers, had never before been used against overseas security contractors working for the U.S. government.

The lawyers for the defendants could not immediately be reached for comment.

At the weekslong trial held in 2014, federal prosecutors and defense lawyer presented very different versions of what triggered the September 2007 massacre in Nisour Square.

The government described the killings as a one-sided ambush of unarmed civilians, while the defense said the guards opened fire only after a white Kia sedan seen as a potential suicide car bomb began moving quickly toward their convoy. After the shooting stopped, no evidence of a bomb found.

In issuing their ruling benefiting the defendants, the judges said they were in no way excusing the horror of events they said “defies civilized description.”

“In reaching this conclusion, we by no means intend to minimize the carnage attributable to Slough, Heard and Liberty’s actions,” said U.S. Circuit Judge Karen L. Henderson, writing for the court. “Their poor judgments resulted in the deaths of many innocent people.”

JonBenét Ramsey’s Murder Investigation: Authorities Exploring New DNA Testing

Police in Boulder, Colorado, have discussed using new DNA testing in the infamous unsolved death of JonBenét Ramsey, according to a Wednesday news release.

“As part of the ongoing investigation into the death of JonBenét Ramsey, the Boulder Police Department continues to discuss and evaluate evidence with the Boulder District Attorney’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation,” the police department said.

“With the emergence of new DNA testing technology, the Boulder Police Department is working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations to determine if this new technology could further this investigation.”

Officials won’t disclose any additional details “until there is new information to announce,” according to the release. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation could not comment to PEOPLE.

A spokeswoman for the Boulder Police Department tells PEOPLE the District Attorney’s Office and Boulder police most recently met to discuss the possibility before Thanksgiving, but she noted they’ve gathered throughout the year.

The CBI now uses “more advanced” DNA testing kits, the spokeswoman said: “That’s what is prompting us to look into the possibility of using the more advanced technology.”

Earlier this year, Colorado’s 9News found in a joint investigation with the Boulder Daily Camera that the 2008 interpretation of the trace male DNA found in the case may have been flawed.

• For more on the JonBenét Ramsey murder case, tune in to People Magazine Investigates on Monday (10 p.m. ET) on Investigation Discovery

JonBenét was discovered dead in the basement of her family’s Boulder mansion on Christmas Day in 1996. She was 6 years old.

No one has ever been charged in her killing. In 2008, following the trace DNA analysis, JonBenét’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were formally cleared in the investigation — two years after the latter’s death from cancer. But former Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner said in 2015, “Exonerating anyone … is absurd.”

John and Patsy have always maintained their innocence in their daughter’s death.

Drug Dealer Pleads Not Guilty To Hollywood Executive’s Murder

By Dan Whitcomb

LOS ANGELES, Feb 26 (Reuters) – A convicted drug dealer pleaded not guilty on Thursday to murdering a Hollywood studio executive whose remains were found buried in the California desert last year, and a defense lawyer said he would prove the case was “mutual combat,” not homicide.

John Lenzie Creech, who is already serving an eight-year prison term for sale of a controlled substance, was ordered back to court on March 26 for further proceedings in the high-profile case surrounding the murder of Gavin Smith.

“Ultimately the defense will show that this was not a murder, that it was mutual combat between two men,” attorney Alex Kessel told reporters outside court following the brief hearing.

“It did not arrive at any type of intent to kill, any premeditation,” Kessel said.

Prosecutors, who have publicly revealed little of their evidence against Creech, 42, declined to respond to Kessel’s assertions following the hearing.

But family members of the murdered man released a statement saying Smith’s death had caused them “incomprehensible” pain, adding: “And have no doubt, the evidence will clearly show this was a cold-blooded, premeditated act of murder.”

Smith, a film distribution executive at 20th Century Fox, was 57 years old when he was last seen on the night of May 1, 2012, driving his black Mercedes away from a friend’s house in suburban Oak Park, north of Los Angeles.

Law-enforcement officials issued a missing person bulletin for Smith, also known for playing on UCLA’s 1975 national championship basketball team. His family posted a $ 20,000 reward, saying the 6-foot, 6-inch (1.98-meter) ex-athlete with “movie star” looks should be easy to spot.

Detectives got a break in February 2013 when Smith’s car was found in a storage facility in the Los Angeles suburb of Simi Valley, but his disappearance remained unsolved.

In November, police said a skull and other bones found by hikers in a shallow grave in the desert east of Los Angeles had been identified as belonging to the missing studio executive.

Prosecutors have not said how Smith was killed or what they believe could have motivated the crime. Smith had met Creech’s wife, Chandrika Creech, in rehab in 2009, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. (Reporting by Dan Whitcomb; Editing by Mohammad Zargham)

Murder by the Grace of God: The CIA and Pope John Paul I

Murder by the Grace of God: The CIA and Pope John Paul I

In 1978, driven by Paul VI’s encyclicals Populorum Progressio and Liberation Theology, there were two fronts on which the CIA was confronted by communism as a free democratic society, Italy and Central America. If Italy fell to communism, all of Europe would surely follow. If Central America fell to communism, all of Latin America would surely follow. It was in these parts of the world communism was raising its ugly head as the will of the people that was so very dangerous to the United States and its capitalistic allies. Henry Kissinger sounded the alarm, “Domination by Moscow is not the issue. Communist control of Italy and Central America is the issue. It would have terrible consequences for the United States and is the number one threat to its national security.” ……. On the afternoon of March 13, 1978, fourteen men sat around a table in a sidewalk cafe in a mountain village in northern Italy. In casual clothes they went unnoticed though one was the reigning Pontiff and another Aldo Moro. Included were Italian cardinals who had been behind the rise of the Communist Party in the polls in Italy. The others were cardinals of impoverished parts of the world. Together they comprised the core of the Marxist movement in the Church. They left at four o’clock and Aldo reserved the table for next year….. On March 13, 1979, Cardinals Benelli and Felici decided not to travel to Vittorio Veneto that day. After all, all the others were dead. They, themselves-unaware of their impending doom-were, too, as good as dead.
