Some general notes:

Readers, have you found anything great yet in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year? There are a TON of great dresses under $ 100 (particularly Eliza J) and blazers, and we’re also in the midst of rounding up suits, old favorites, plus size picks, and more.I was particularly interested to note that The Skirt may be back — it feels like Halogen’s “seamed pencil skirt” disappeared for a few years after readers were disappointed by the style changes to it. This year it’s just black and camel, but I’ll be very interested to hear whether people are happy with it!

Editor’s Picks – Summer 2018

Editor-in-Chief Marc Atiyolil shares some of his favorite products (as seen in Canadian Home Trends Magazine Kitchen & Bath 2018)

The combination of a matte white lacquer finish with rich black walnut details gives the Vanité a luxurious, contemporary look. I love that this bathroom vanity offers plenty of storage space with full extension, 6.5″ deep drawers and high performance Blum push-to-open slide mechanisms to allow for a trendy, handless design. If space allows, there is also a double sink version! – Dezign Market

Luxury Vinyl Tile is a great choice if you are looking for an affordable, durable flooring option. The Malibu collection from 4 Corners offers a variety of trendy colors. My favorite is this Belize color that looks fantastic in a light and bright, modern kitchen. This easy to install flooring option is very low maintenance and can withstand the wear and tear of a busy kitchen. – 4 Corners

Ready to meet your new favorite table? The Plurimo is an entirely new concept in extension tables. My favorite design aspect is that it uniquely expands in both width and length with hidden extensions and self-storing leaves. There is no need to take up room in your closet for your table leaves. I love that it’s available in five sizes and in a variety of lacquer, wood, and heat and stain resistant, sealed concrete finishes. – Resource Furniture

‘Uncle Drew’ Cast Picks Their All-Star Dream Team Out Of Their Other Costars

After appearing as an old man known as Uncle Drew in a series of Pepsi commercials, basketball superstar Kyrie Irving is bringing the geriatric character to the big screen in a feature film of the same name.

The athlete’s first movie role finds him getting a group of his old basketball-playing friends together in order to head out onto the court once more. And those friends just happen to be played by basketball legends Shaquille O’Neal, Nate Robinson, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber, and Lisa Leslie. Oh, and best of all, they’re all aged to appear in their 70s and 80s, as well.

While the cast, even as elders, can clearly kill it on the basketball court, FANDOM wanted to know who they’d choose to be on their team when it comes to just living everyday life.

We asked the stars, including stars Lil Rel Howery and Nick Kroll, which of their castmates they’d trust to babysit their children and who they’d want to go on a long road trip with like their characters do in the film.

Uncle Drew
Kyrie Irving in 'Uncle Drew'

And thanks to a hilarious dance sequence in the middle of the movie, we asked the gang which athlete or actor they’d most like to choreograph a routine with. Luckily for us, the question led to Leslie and Robinson showing off some impromptu moves of their own.

Check out the video above to see who the cast drafts for their dream team and catch Uncle Drew in theaters now.

Quick Picks: Post Nordstrom Half Yearly Further Markdowns

Nordstrom: Extra Savings on SOME Half-Yearly Items

Patience pays off. Sometimes. It pays off if they still have it in the size and color you were after, and, if it happens to be in the batch of items that have received additional discounts since the massive Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale ended yesterday.

But, lots of stuff has sold out (or, all but) and not everything has seen additional cuts. That’s why we combed back through the massive pack of on-sale goods at Nordstrom to see what’s gotten further cuts. Some of what was 40%-50% off is now 50%-60% off. And it still ships and returns for free. Picks below are limited to items that have been marked down further, and somehow still have at least a decent size selection at post time. But that can change. Quick.

JKT Trim Fit Stretch Cotton Blazer – $ 159.20 ($ 398)

JKT Trim Fit Stretch Cotton Blazer

Was $ 198.98. Italian cotton with some stretch woven in for comfort. And speaking of comfort, it’s just partially lined. Was almost $ 200 during the sale. Now just under $ 160.

Wood & Faulk Waxed Canvas USA Made Duffel – $ 194.49 ($ 389)

Wood & Faulk Waxed Canvas USA Made Duffel

Was $ 233.40. Seems like a steal at this price. Made in the USA of hearty materials. Dimensions are 21”W x 14”H x 6 1/2”D. Yes, it does come with a shoulder strap too.

To Boot New York Dreyfus Cap Toe Monk Shoe – $ 168.75 ($ 375)

To Boot New York Dreyfus Cap Toe Monk Shoe

Was $ 209.90. Plenty of eye catching details here. Also available in black. Made in Italy. I do believe the soles are stitched, but they aren’t Goodyear. Blake I think?

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Wool Dinner Jacket & Pant – $ 499.96 ($ 1000)

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Wool Dinner Jacket and Pants

Was $ 599.96. Okay. Now we’re talking. Still, not cheap. Hardly. But this is another Bonobos option from their upgraded “Capstone” line. And hey, wedding season is here. Sold as suit separates. A surprisingly large number of sizes left.

Select Ledbury Sport & Dress Shirts – $ 72.49 – $ 92.49 ($ 145 – $ 165)

Ledbury

Was $ 86.98 – $ 109.90. Further reductions on super expensive shirts that more than a few of us are addicted to. Not a lot of wheelhouse stuff (like solids) but still worth a quick browse if you’re a Ledbury fan. Sizes are real scattered.

The Rail Tempe Chukka – $ 53.96 ($ 89.95)

The Rail Tempe Chukka

Including this here because while I don’t think it’s further marked down (at least I don’t think it is?) it didn’t make it into the original Nordstrom sale post. Twas a late/last minute addition to the sale… methinks. Anyway, price sure is right. And don’t underestimate the versatility of gray suede chukkas.

JKT Trim Fit Windowpane Linen Sport Coat – $ 191.20 ($ 478)

JKT Trim Fit Windowpane Linen Sport Coat

Was $ 238.98. Easy, soft linen. And thankfully, it looks like they kept the structure and the lining to a minimum. Could be a real winner in the upcoming heat?

Wood & Faulk Carpenter Waxed Canvas Bag – $ 142.49 ($ 285)

Wood & Faulk Carpenter Waxed Canvas Bag

Was $ 170.98. Not bad for a waxed canvas w/ leather accents made in the USA bag. Dimensions are 13”W x 11”H x 6”D. And yes, it does come with a shoulder strap too.

Bonobos Straight Leg Stretch Washed Chinos – $ 48.98 ($ 98)

Bonobos Straight Leg Stretch Washed Chinos

Was $ 58.40. Now a full 50% off. Sizes are scattered depending on what color you’re after. Not their original, 100% cotton wheelhouse pant, but instead their version with 2% stretch added for comfort.

Nordstrom Check Dress Shirts in Trim or Extra Trim Fit – $ 19.49 ($ 39)

Nordstrom Check Dress Shirts

Was $ 29.90. Multiple color schemes here in two fits. Note that these don’t appear to be the “easy care” shirts, so, you’ll have to be handy with an iron.

Clarks Desert Peak Chelseas – $ 70 ($ 140)

Clarks Desert Peak Chelseas

Was originally part of the sale, then was taken out of the sale, and is now back in because it’s being price matched again. I think this might be the “beeswax” brown leather that Clarks uses? Crepe sole here.

Sand Trim Fit Plaid Linen & Wool Sport Coat – $ 259.98 ($ 650)

Sand Trim Fit Plaid Linen & Wool Sport Coat

Was $ 324.98. Fully lined this time. Made in Portugal. 60% linen, 40% virgin wool. That plaid should look great for nights out during the warmer weather. EU sizes here, so subtract 10 to get the normal US size (so if it’s an EU48, that’s 38 here in the states).

Ted Baker Swipes Duffel – $ 142.49 ($ 285)

Ted Baker Swipes Duffel

Didn’t catch this one the first time around. I think it’s a new addition? That’s one sleek looking modern duffel. Weather resistant exterior with what appears to be Saffiano (or Saffiano-like?) leather or faux leather trim. Dimensions are 19”W x 12”H x 10”D.

1901 Cardiff Plain Toe Derby – $ 54.98 ($ 110)

1901 Cardiff Plain Toe Derby

Was $ 76.90. A good casual shoe to wear with chinos and a polo in the heat. Which is either hear, or, quickly approaching. Darn summer.

Barbour “Helm” Quilted Jacket – $ 99.49 ($ 199)

Barbour "Helm" Quilted Jacket

Was $ 119.40. A shorter, bomber like quilted jacket from Barbour. Three colors to pick from, including that not-so normal light grey seen above left. Now an extra $ 20 off compared to the half-yearly price.

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Plaid Wool Blend Sport Coat – $ 349.98 ($ 700)

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Plaid Wool Blend Sport Coat

Was $ 419.98. From their high end “Capstone” collection. Remember, part of the Bonobos “slim” fit, as opposed to their standard, is cutting the tail a little shorter. So if you don’t like that look, move on.

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt

Was $ 39.90. Solid but with a bit of a micro diamond texture to the weave. Neck and sleeve sizing. A basic, but a basic that every guy needs.

Sand Sportcoat in Wool/Cotton/Linen – $ 259.98 ($ 650)

Sand Sportcoat in Wool/Cotton/Linen

Was $ 324.98. Full disclosure. I don’t have any direct experience with this brand. So I couldn’t tell you if this thing is half canvas or fused. Made in Portugal though. Lots of potential here.

J&M 1850 Allister Sneaker – $ 65.25 ($ 145)

J&M 1850 Allister Sneaker

Was $ 89.90. Another alternative to the perpetually sold out J. Crew Nike Killshot. Kinda like the logo free, ultra clean look here too. Word is they run large. Nice reviews. Was going for closer to $ 90 during the sale.

Nordstrom Flat Front 100% Wool Trousers – $ 79.49 ($ 159)

Nordstrom Flat Front 100% Wool Trousers

Was $ 94.90. (Clears throat.) Oh, you want an encore? Sing it with me now… Work pannnnts! Work pannnnts! WORK PANNNNNTS. Da na na na na na na na na… WORK PANTS!

Hex Tote Bag – $ 49.96 ($ 99.95)

Hex Tote Bag

Was $ 59.96. There are worse looking, less functional ways to get your stuff back and forth to the beach. Now another ten bucks off.

Florsheim Classico Double Monk – $ 101.59 ($ 190)

Florsheim Classico Double Monk

A new addition to the sale section. Price matched. These are NOT almost $ 200 shoes. They are closer to $ 100 shoes. They’re nice for a hundred bucks. Leather is a little stiff, but not terrible for a hundred bucks. Toe might be a bit pointy for more conservative tastes.

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Summer 2018 – Picks for Men

Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale Summer 2018

It’s arguably one of the better sales of the year. No codes to wrangle. No extra % coming off once something hits your cart. The price you see is the price you pay, and since it’s Nordstrom, everything ships and returns for free. Everything. Plus, Nordstrom is the rare department store that has curated some really nice upper scale brands, and balances those more expensive items with their solid quality, house-brand goods.

So what’s the catch? When they do a sale, it’s always huge. As in inventory. As in… there’s a boatload of pages to scroll through and browse. That’s a lot of clicking. And we went through all of it. As always, the picks below are limited to those with at least a decent size selection at post time.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Stretch Wool Travel Blazer – $ 209.40 ($ 349)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Stretch Wool Travel Blazer

Huge potential here. 98% wool with 2% stretch for ease of movement. Does appear to be fully lined, but the patch pockets and dark blue shade make for a perfect blazer. A basic, but from here it appears to be a very well executed basic. And at that price, it’s awfully tempting.

Monte Rosso Cap Toe Oxford – $ 249.90 ($ 375)

Monte Rosso Cap Toe Oxford

Looks to be the quintessential Italian oxford. Cap toe, smooth leather, and a trim silhouette while avoiding a pointy toe. Made in Italy. Almost certainly Blake stitched, no? With a sole that slim?

Nordy Hopsack Trim Fit Wool Blazer in Grey or Blue – $ 209.40 ($ 349)

Nordy Hopsack Trim Fit Wool Blazer

Another blazer from Norstrom’s house line. This time in textured hopsack wool. Or at least that’s what it looks like from here. Wool is from the Italian mill Reda, while it appears that they’re just 1/4 lined in the back. LOTS of good things going on here.

Wolverine 1000 Mile ‘Adrian’ Cap Toe Boot – $ 248.98 ($ 415)

Wolverine 1000 Mile ‘Adrian’ Cap Toe Boot

Is it boot season? No! Are these drool worthy all the same?? Yes! These’ll see a ton of use once the weather cools off in a few months. Legendary craftsmanship and good looks. Oh, and that name for the boot. This is obligatory.

Bonobos Straight Leg Stretch Washed Chinos – $ 58.40 ($ 98)

Bonobos Straight Leg Stretch Washed Chinos

Not their original, 100% cotton wheelhouse pant, but instead their version with 2% stretch added for comfort. Plenty of summer ready colors available too. 40% off is no small discount on these things.

Taikan Prowler Suede Duffel – $ 269.98 ($ 450)

Taikan Prowler Suede Duffel

That’s really not a bad price for an all suede duffel. No experience with the brand though. Dimensions are 19 1/2”W x 11”H x 8”D.

JKT Trim Fit Stretch Cotton Blazer – $ 198.98 ($ 398)

JKT Trim Fit Stretch Cotton Blazer

Italian cotton with some stretch woven in for comfort. And speaking of comfort, it’s just partially lined.

Nordstrom Tech-Smart Trim Fit Stretch Solid Dress Shirt – $ 39.90 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Tech-Smart Trim Fit Stretch Solid Dress Shirt

Nice to see that these have come down in price for this sale. From their new “tech-smart” line that’s a cotton/poly hybrid engineered to keep you cool and move with you. Also available in a mini blue tattersall, if that’s more your thing.

John W. Nordstrom Stratton Double Monk – $ 118.80 ($ 198)

John W. Nordstrom Stratton Double Monk

That’s a very, very good price for an Italian made shoe from Nordstrom’s higher end “JWN” line. Looks to have a timeless toe shape too.

Nord. Pima Cotton Blend Button Down Collar Polo – $ 24.75 ($ 49.50)

Nordstrom Pima Cotton Blend Button Down Collar Polo

Wait a minute, since when has Nordstrom been making their own button down collar polos?! Haven’t tried these on yet. I’ve failed you all, miserably. Pique knit here.

Wood & Faulk Waxed Canvas USA Made Duffel – $ 233.40 ($ 389)

Wood & Faulk Waxed Canvas USA Made Duffel

Wait, what? Since when does Norstrom carry Wood & Faulk stuff? Made in the USA of hearty materials. Dimensions are 21”W x 14”H x 6 1/2”D. Yes, it does come with a shoulder strap too.

Bonobos Slim Fit Plaid Linen Blend Unconstructed Blazer – $ 269.98 ($ 450)

Bonobos Slim Fit Plaid Linen Blend Unconstructed Blazer

Seems like there’s more than a few Bonobos pieces in this sale (as you’ll find in the picks below). And 40% off is quite generous, considering that Bonobos doesn’t run more than 20% off full price stuff, on their own site, all that often.

Cole Haan ‘Warren’ Wingtip – $ 129.90 ($ 200)

Cole Haan 'Warren' Wingtip

Kinda liking that “copper” leather. Looks matte and marbled. A casual wingtip for sure. Not gonna be dressed too far up, but should look pretty good with off white or grey chinos and a navy polo?

Barbour “Helm” Quilted Jacket – $ 119.40 ($ 199)

Barbour "Helm" Quilted Jacket

A shorter, bomber like quilted jacket from Barbour. Three colors to pick from, including that not-so normal light grey seen above left.

Bonobos Slim Fit Cotton/Linen Unconstructed Blazer – $ 269.98 ($ 450)

Bonobos Slim Fit Cotton/Linen Unconstructed Blazer

From their unconstructed line of jackets. Not a hopsack wool, but instead 50% cotton and 50% linen.

1901 Fremont Relaxed Slim Fit Chinos – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

1901 Fremont Relaxed Slim Fit Chinos

Relaxed slim? That’s kinda an odd choice of words. Anyway, here’s what a 32×30 shakes down to be, according to Nordstrom: 15″ leg opening; 10 1/2″ front rise; 15 1/2″ back rise.

Ferragamo Plain Toe Oxford – $ 356.98 ($ 595)

Ferragamo Plain Toe Oxford

And this is why Nordstrom continues to be unique. On the one hand, you can pick up in house chinos for $ 35. On the other, you can grab a pair of Ferragamos for the mid $ 300s.

John W. Nordstrom Genova Wingtip Oxford – $ 110.98 ($ 185)

John W. Nordstrom Genova Wingtip Oxford

From Nordstrom’s upgraded “JWN” line. Made in Italy. True oxford, closed style lacing. Sleek wingtips in an eye catching lighter shade.

Select Ledbury Sport & Dress Shirts – $ 86.98 – $ 109.90 ($ 145 – $ 165)

Select Ledbury Sport & Dress Shirts

Feels a bit like a Ledbury brand clearance, only there seems to be at least a decent size selection on most of the styles offered. Not a lot of wheelhouse stuff (like solids) but still worth a quick browse if you’re a Ledbury fan.

Vans Authentic Gum Bumper Sneaker – $ 29.96 ($ 49.95)

Vans Authentic Gum Bumper Sneaker

White canvas vans with a contrasting gum bumper toe. Simple but still following that gum trend.

Pantherella Cashmere Blend Mid Calf Socks – $ 34.98 ($ 70)

Pantherella Cashmere Blend Mid Calf Socks

And now something to wear with those wingtips. 85% cashmere, 15% nylon, and made in the UK. Is $ 35 for ONE pair of socks kinda sorta absurd? Yes! But until you’ve worn cashmere socks, then you’ve… never worn cashmere socks. Look, it’s a total splurge.

JKT Trim Fit Windowpane Linen Sport Coat – $ 238.98 ($ 478)

JKT Trim Fit Windowpane Linen Sport Coat

Easy, soft linen. And thankfully, it looks like they kept the structure and the lining to a minimum. Could be a real winner in the upcoming heat?

Wood & Faulk Gear – $ 19.20 – $ 170.98 ($ 32 – $ 250)

Wood & Faulk Gear

And now, even more stuff from the North West based canvas and leather goods maker. From that carpenters bag all the way down to small zippered pouches. USA made goods for any budget.

Nordstrom Silk Knit Tie – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

Nordstrom Silk Knit Tie

Most are more than fine with picking up cheap ties here and there, but the problem with cheap ties is that sometimes they can feel… cheap. Imagine that. Bad knots, weird fabric, etc. That shouldn’t be the case here. And if it arrives and you’re not thrilled? Send it back. For free.

Barbour Tailored Mixed Media Vest – $ 89.40 ($ 149)

Barbour Tailored Mixed Media Vest

That’s a mighty well executed layering piece. From a heritage brand no less. Cotton trim and horizontal baffle quilted nylon. Available in navy or mid gray.

Jack Mason Chrono – $ 164.98 | Blue Dial – $ 116.98

Jack Mason

These are specifically placed here for the dude on Instagram who multiple times has said we as a site should “do better” than mentioning Jack Mason watches. These are for you Todd! Suck an egg!

1901 Cardiff Plain Toe Derby – $ 76.90 ($ 110)

1901 Cardiff Plain Toe Derby

Cardiff? They’re going up. Sorry Swansea. You’re headed to the championship. Anyway, onto the shoes. Word is they run large.

Want Les Essentials O’Hare’Tote Bag – $ 149.98 ($ 250)

Want Les Essentials O'Hare'Tote Bag

Do you even tote bro? Some guys carry a tote a lot (like your friendly neighborhood affordable men’s style editor, who’s always lugging stuff back and forth to the office for review) and some can’t stand the idea of carrying a tote. If you’re the former, this is a pretty slick looking way to upgrade. Also available in black.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Linen Blazer – $ 179.40 ($ 299)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Linen Blazer

The good news? There’s TONS of colors and there appears to be most sizes available at post time. The bad news? They fully lined the thing. Sorta defeats the purpose of easy, breezy linen. Still, the price is right. So if you don’t run overly hot, it could make a great addition to the summertime wardrobe.

adidas Campus Sneakers – $ 53.96 ($ 89.95)

adidas Campus Sneakers

Saturated sneakers sure are sick. No?

Michael Kors Packable Stretch Down Jacket – $ 99.92 ($ 295)

Michael Kors Packable Stretch Down Jacket

Looks to be a lightweight, quilted, down jacket that comes with a smart moto-style collar. Just the two colors available shown above. Another out of season item, but could be a good pickup for a few months down the road?

Skagen Holst 40mm Day/Date Watch – $ 123.75 ($ 165)

Skagen Holst 40mm Day/Date Watch

Not a big gold guy myself, but that rose gold, dark brown, and blue color scheme really goes well together. A price matched item. No word on when that price is set to expire.

Hex Tote Bag – $ 59.96 ($ 99.95)

Hex Tote Bag

There are worse looking, less functional ways to get your stuff back and forth to the beach.

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Wool Dinner Jacket & Pant – $ 599.96 ($ 1000)

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Wool Dinner Jacket and Pants

Not cheap. Hardly. But this is another Bonobos option from their upgraded “Capstone” line. And hey, wedding season is quickly approaching. Sold as suit separates.

Wolverine Deacon Chukka Boot – $ 110.98 ($ 185)

Wolverine Deacon Chukka Boot

Not from their one-thousand-mile line, but instead from their made in Portugal line. Still pretty nice, especially considering how low the price is now. Appears to be very similar to a pair of suede Wolverine chukkas that I own. Can’t say enough good things about those.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Non-Iron Gingham Dress Shirt – $ 32.90 ($ 49.50)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Non-Iron Gingham Dress Shirt

Button down collar but a trimmer fit. Basics again, but something that a lot of us lean on.

Nordstrom Check Flat Front Stretch Wool Pants – $ 69.49 ($ 139)

Nordstrom Check Flat Front Stretch Wool Pants

98% wool and 2% stretch. Flat front, micro-check dress pants from one of the few department stores left that knows what the hell they’re doing. Perfect for the office… if you happen to work in one.

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt – $ 39.90 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Smartcare Trim Fit Solid Dress Shirt

Solid but with a bit of a micro diamond texture to the weave. Neck and sleeve sizing. A basic, but a basic that every guy needs.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Check or Stripe Dress Shirts – $ 39.40 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Dress Shirts

And now, a couple of… un-solids. But still plenty versatile. Also made in their smartcare fabric which isn’t non-iron, but pretty easy/easier to iron than many other dress shirts.

1901 Boat Shoes – $ 47.96 ($ 79.95)

1901 Boat Shoes

Nubuck boat shoes in tons of colors (some you’d want, some you wouldn’t). Warm weather classics that plenty wear to death. And no, you don’t have to be on a boat to wear them.

Bonobos Lightweight Stripe Jacket & Pant = $ 449.96 ($ 750)

Bonobos Lightweight Stripe Jacket & Pants

This is a weird one. A cotton/linen/lyocell (form of rayon) suit that looks like its taking inspiration from pajamas. If there was ever a suit to wear with a t-shirt and sneakers, this would be the one.

Nordstrom Long Sleeve Cotton & Linen Blend Henley – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Long Sleeve Cotton & Linen Blend Henley

Henley’s are a casual secret weapon for more than a few of us. They make you, somehow, look stronger than you otherwise might be, and they look really good with a pair of jeans or beat up chinos. Cotton/Linen/Poly blend here for the warmer months.

Allen Edmonds Madison Park Wingtips in Walnut or Black – $ 254.90 ($ 395)

Allen Edmonds Madison Park Wingtips

Not as dressy as an oxford, but still plenty dressy to find lots of use. Made in the USA and Goodyear welted as always.

Sand Sportcoat in Wool – $ 272.49 or Wool/Cotton/Linen – $ 324.98

Sand Sportcoats

Full disclosure. I don’t have any direct experience with this brand. So I couldn’t tell you if they’re half canvas or fused. The solid grey is made in Italy, while the plaid is made in Portugal. So, they got that goin’ for them.

SmartCare Trim Fit White or Blue Herringbone Dress Shirt – $ 39.90 ($ 69.50)

SmartCare Trim Fit White or Blue Herringbone Dress Shirt

There’s hardly a better easy-iron (yes you still have to iron it, but it won’t be absurdly difficult) wheelhouse, affordable but not cheap dress shirt on the market. Often featured in style scenarios. The herringbone weave gives a subtle texture, and thus depth, especially if you’re wearing a solid suit or sportcoat and tie.

Allen Edmonds Neumok Wingtip – $ 199.90 ($ 295)

Allen Edmonds Neumok Wingtip

A great alternative to plain bucks, or, other suede shoes in the heat. Plus these can absolutely look great with jeans and a sportcoat in the fall. Unlined, so a little more casual looking. Wingtip and true oxford style lacing. Goodyear welted and Made in the USA.

Nordstrom Check Dress Shirts in Trim or Extra Trim Fit – $ 29.90 ($ 39)

Nordstrom Check Dress Shirts

Multiple color schemes here in two fits. Note that these don’t appear to be the “easy care” shirts, so, you’ll have to be handy with an iron.

Allen Edmonds Vernon in Dark Brown, Walnut, or Black – $ 254.90 ($ 395)

Allen Edmonds

Certainly not a conservative, traditional dress shoe. Has some funkiness to its looks thanks to those perforations. But plenty love em’. Made in the USA of course.

Sand Trim Fit Plaid Linen & Wool Sport Coat – $ 324.98 ($ 650)

Sand Trim Fit Plaid Linen & Wool Sport Coat

Fully lined this time. Made in Portugal. 60% linen, 40% virgin wool. That plaid should look great for nights out during the warmer weather.

Calibrate Trim Fit “Polo” – $ 24.75 ($ 49.50)

Calibrate Trim Fit "Polo"

They seem to be stretching the definition of the word “polo” here, but, I’ve seen similar attempts to re-define the garment by Nike sponsored soccer wear this past season (see Spurs and their travelling “polo” shirts from 17/18). Still, has potential. All cotton.

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Wingtip – $ 131.98 ($ 220)

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Wingtip

Seems like this is one of those items that’s perpetually in the Nordstrom sale section. Doesn’t make it a bad pickup at this price though, especially if you’re going for comfort over long-lasting construction.

Michael Kors Wool Blend Peacoat – $ 99.90 ($ 350)

Michael Kors Wool Blend Peacoat

Good grief… 400 reviews, and it’s north of 4/5 stars. That’s impressive. 60% wool. Four colors to pick from including navy (which isn’t shown above). Yes, it’s way out of season, but, that’s clearance for you.

J&M 1850 Allister Sneaker – $ 89.90 ($ 145)

J&M 1850 Allister Sneaker

Another alternative to the perpetually sold out J. Crew Nike Killshot. Kinda like the logo free, ultra clean look here too. Word is they run large. Nice reviews.

TBNY Wingtip – $ 209.90 ($ 375) | Cap-Toe Oxford – $ 199.90 ($ 350)

To Boot New York

Some people like to hate on To Boot New York shoes, but with costs going up everywhere, right around $ 200 for a Made in Italy, sleek pair of dress shoes isn’t half bad. Almost positive that they’re stitched (Blake, not Goodyear I think?) and I’ve always found them to be pretty comfortable. Wingtip is an open-lacing blucher here. So, not quite as formal as the sleeker, closed lacing cap toe option.

TBNY Single Monk – $ 199.90 ($ 350) | Double Monk –  $ 209.90 ($ 375)

To Boot New York

Ditto here, just only in a couple of monk strap styles. Super simple on the single monks, and plenty of eye catching details on the double. Also available in black. Just like the wingtip and cap toe oxford.

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Plaid Wool Blend Sport Coat – $ 419.98 ($ 700)

Bonobos Capstone Slim Fit Plaid Wool Blend Sport Coat

From their high end “Capstone” collection. Remember, part of the Bonobos “slim” fit, as opposed to their standard, is cutting the tail a little shorter. So if you don’t like that look, move on.

John W. Nordstrom Rodrigo Wingtip Oxford – $ 99.90 ($ 150)

John W. Nordstrom Rodrigo Wingtip Oxford

Not bad for a pair of shoes from Nordstrom’s higher end “JWN” house line. I’d stick with the suede options here. Not only are they gonna be perfect for the warm weather ahead, it appears that the smooth leather options might have some sort of “flaking” issue (see the reviews). And suede? It won’t flake. Ships and returns free since it’s Nordstrom.

Lorenzo Uomo Trim Fit Solid or Check Dress Shirt – $ 56.98 ($ 95)

Lorenzo Uomo Trim Fit Dress Shirt

No personal experience with the brand, so, I can’t vouch for these dress shirts, but I’m guessing they’ll be a noticeable step up. Really nice looking collars from here.

Baracuta G9 Varsity Jacket – $ 239.40 ($ 399)

Baracuta G9 Varsity Jacket

A legend with some updated, sporty stripes. Made in the UK.

1901 Harrington Jacket – $ 64.49 ($ 140)

1901 Harrington Jacket

Or, you could go with a super cheap, chambray alternative from the Nordstrom house brand 1901. Very much not made in the UK.

J&M 1850 Meritt Wingtip Boot – $ 110.98 ($ 185)

J&M 1850 Meritt Wingtip Boot

A not quite as fortunate man’s AE dalton. Now? Relatively dirt cheap being that it’s not boot season.

Ted Baker Ozboz Leather Briefcase – $ 320.93 ($ 479)

Ted Baker Ozboz Leather Briefcase

Ted Baker is usually known a bit more for the flash and design side, and less on the quality side. So that’s gonna make more than a few of us not-so-sure about the quality of this leather brief. But there’s a certain simple, modern aesthetic to it that’s tempting. Well, at least it returns for free, no?

Calvin Klein “Banded” Sneaker – $ 62.98 ($ 105)

AW HE GOT THE VELCROS! … (just seeing if you’re still paying attention. Also, “banded”?? Seriously?)

Herschel Supply Co. Sutton Duffel – $ 74.98 ($ 100)

Herschel Supply Co. Sutton Duffel

Simple but not boring. That’s what muted color-blocking can do for you. Dimensions are 22”W x 12”H x 12 1/2”D.

Nordstrom Flat Front 100% Wool Trousers – $ 94.90 ($ 159)

Nordstrom Flat Front 100% Wool Trousers

Work pannnnts! Work pannnnts! WORK PANNNNNTS. Da na na na na na na na na… WORK PANTS!

Rodd & Gunn Elsthorpe Wool Blazer – $ 238.80 ($ 398)

Rodd & Gunn Elsthorpe Wool Blazer

Full honesty… I’ve got no clue on this one. Could be awesome, could be terrible. But there’s potential here. Italian wool, certainly appears to be hopsack, and the patch pockets up front keep it from looking like a suit jacket. Ships and returns for free.

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Cap Toe Oxford – $ 139.90 ($ 220)

Cole Haan Harrison Grand Cap Toe Oxford

Are they Allen Edmonds? No! Are they worth a shot if you don’t have AE money, you need a conservative dress shoe that’ll also be comfortable, and you’re not willing to commit to a pair of shoes for life? Of course.

Nordstrom Trim Fit Dress Shirt in Cotton Texture – $ 39.90 ($ 69.50)

Nordstrom Trim Fit Dress Shirt in Cotton Texture

Basics from a trusted source at a more than reasonable price. A bit of texture. Nothing crazy.

1901 Westport Chukka Boot – $ 71.98 ($ 120)

1901 Westport Chukka Boot

Basic crepe soled chukkas. Taupe and navy suede, and then the grey option shown above happens to be leather.

Nordstrom 3-Pack Stretch Cotton Boxer Briefs – $ 17.25 ($ 34.50)

Nordstrom 3-Pack Stretch Cotton Boxer Briefs

For those who haven’t made the jump to tech fabric underwear quite yet.

Geox Winfred 2 Wingtip – $ 86.90 ($ 125)

Geox Winfred 2 Wingtip

Welcome to the future. I know there are plenty of you who hate, HATE this dress shoe/athletic shoe mashup look, and while it’s also not my personal cup of tea, I have seen them look pretty good on others. So I ain’t judging. Kinda like a cheap version of Cole Haan’s ZeroGrand… which also happens to be a part of this half-yearly sale.

Herschel Supply Co Apex Backpack – $ 149.98 ($ 200)

Herschel Supply Co Apex Backpack

The kind of backpack that might convince the anti-backpack crowd that maybe wearing a backpack ain’t such a bad idea. But are they really this expensive? Jansport circa 1994… I miss you.

Santoni Ethan Cap Toe Oxford – $ 399.90 ($ 635)

Santoni Ethan Cap Toe Oxford

Ending how we started. With an Italian oxford. Only this one is nearing four hundred bucks. Free shipping and returns at least.

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is set to expire on June 3rd. Not sure what happens then though? Do some items get taken out of the sale section? Do prices drop further? Beats me.

Meghan Markle Picks Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller for Her Wedding Dress

WINDSOR — Duty and discretion.
Meghan Markle, who became Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex earlier this morning, telegraphed some very powerful messages to the British public — and the world — about the sort of royal she wants to be.
Stepping out of a vintage Rolls-Royce in a minimal and an unembellished Givenchy Haute Couture dress by the British designer Clare Waight Keller, a diamond tiara on loan from Queen Elizabeth, and a veil bearing symbols of the Commonwealth, this bride was out to prove that she’s all about simplicity, heritage, respecting tradition — and serving her public.

Not for her a glittering gown with a bejeweled veil. In Waight Keller she picked a talented, low-key British designer who is all about femininity, soft edges and beautiful fabrics. It was a fitting choice: After all, Markle may have married a son and brother of future monarchs, but Harry is now sixth in line to the throne — and will likely never get near it.
The couple also married at St. George’s Chapel on the Queen’s Windsor estate — not at Westminster Abbey or St. Paul’s Cathedral in London — and invited more than 2,000 members of the public to

NBC Picks Up Brooklyn Nine-Nine After Fox Cancels Fan-Favorite Show

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been picked up by NBC for a sixth season just one day after Fox canceled the show.

Fan outcry over the cancellation of the beloved show led to NBC speedily picking up the cop comedy starring Andy Samberg for 13 more episodes.

“We got your SIX! #Brooklyn99 is officially coming to NBC!” the network said in a tweet.

The show’s cast and creators also took to Twitter to share their joy. Writer Mike Schur said Brooklyn Nine-Nine came back thanks to the show’s strong fanbase.

NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement that he regretted letting the show “get away” after selling it to Fox, the New York Times reports.

“It’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” he said. “Mike Schur, Dan Goor and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC, and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”

EXCLUSIVE: Chanel Picks Margot Robbie as Face of Coco Neige Line

SNOW QUEEN: Just weeks after being introduced as the latest brand ambassador for Chanel, Margot Robbie has stepped in front of the lens of creative director Karl Lagerfeld to appear in her debut advertising campaign for the French luxury house.
The Australian actress has been selected as the face of Chanel’s first Coco Neige collection, set to hit Chanel boutiques in July and August in tandem with its fall ready-to-wear. The line, dedicated to winter sports and après-ski, mixes technical pieces with classic Chanel codes like tweed, leather and camellia motifs.
Robbie is pictured against a background of blue sky and clouds wearing items including a soft chunky sweater, a parka or a down jacket. The eight visuals will break from June 10 in the July editions of leading international magazines.
“This shoot was one of the greatest experiences of my career. The energy and vibe on set was so wonderful and collaborative,” Robbie said in a statement.
“One of the first things Karl Lagerfeld said to me was that we never need to take ourselves too seriously. He has such a creative mind and he knows exactly what he wants and the minute he captured it, we were moving onto the next shot.

Trump’s New Cabinet Picks Face Hell on the Hill

Photo Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily Beast

President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday that he would be re-shuffling his foreign policy team gave congressional Democrats two new, high-profile opportunities to press the administration on a host of sensitive political matters. Early indications suggest that they will try to turn the upcoming confirmation hearings for Mike Pompeo and Gina Haspel into a fresh political hell for the administration.

Pompeo, the CIA director, will be nominated for the role of secretary of state while Haspel, his deputy, is slated to take over the CIA, after Trump fired his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday. Lawmakers said they were troubled at the swift sacking at Foggy Bottom, which comes at a time when the United States is dealing with continued Russian aggression worldwide and a possible summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

But in its wake lies an opportunity for the minority party: the rare opportunity to pin the administration.

Editor’s Picks: Spring 2018

Editor-in-chief Marc Atiyolil shares some of his favorite products. As seen in Canadian Home Trends Magazine February 2018.

I recently had a chance to view the flooring selections at Peerani’s Flooring and I fell in love with this hand-scraped Hickory engineered hardwood called Silver Minks from Twelve Oaks’ Antique Perspective collection. The hand-scraped details give this floor a vintage feel while the gray tones in the wood add a modern twist. This makes it a classic choice that will work for many different design styles. Plus, Silver Minks is designed for an easy Drop Lock floating installation! – Peerani’s Flooring, www.peeranisflooring.com

Solutions for small space living are always a popular topic and that’s why I love this concept from Lucvaa Kitchens. A glossy bank of built-in cabinetry fills a single wall for a modern looking display that takes up very little floor space. When not in use, the kitchen simply looks like a storage unit but the cabinet doors slide away into the unit to reveal a kitchen counter with cabinetry, workspace and a sink.   This is the perfect solution for a small home or condo with an open concept living space! – Lucvaa Kitchens, www.lucvaa.com

I had the opportunity to test out the new app from Rubinet. Rubinet provides high quality faucets and accessories that are completely customizable and now they have an app that lets you customize their products using your phone. Faucets are a great place to add an unexpected design detail like a gold accent or a pop of color. Now you can try out hundreds of combinations to find the perfect faucet and accessories for your bathroom! – Rubinet, www.rubinet.com

While taking in a recent design show, I came across a simple yet colorful booth and was introduced to Daintree’s Liquid Systems. Liquid Systems is a stand-alone system that is aesthetically pleasing, easy to install and highly customizable. This Canadian-made product is made-to-order so it can be customized specifically to your space requirements, creating an elegant, modern display for your finest beverages. Food Court Picks, H&M’s on Fire, & Retail Continues to Struggle

ABUELA!

(thank you)

FAST FASHION: Burning out quicker than you’d think? (I’m going to go ahead and apologize for that. I’m shame faced. I’ll just go put myself in the corner.)

OH FFS! Quick! Someone get in touch with B.O.B. stat. I really really really hope this eventually happens.

ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING: I am so damn happy that this happened. It was one of my favorite stories from last year.

HEADS UP: How to make your way through the food court without needing to replace your underpants. Or something.

DOSSIER UPDATE: Remember that story about the soccer team which was lost in an airplane crash in Columbia? The story is worse than you thought.

THE HOLIDAY MANTLE: PART 1:

(this is mine)

Refreshed from our Black Friday break, Eric H returns with a full slate of clickables and once again, I’m grateful.

STANDARDS: They’re important. Like, um, wearing clothes when at a restaurant. So, yeah, no.

GRUNGE IS NOT DEAD: It’s pretty satisfying when bands who were part of something that connected with so many people still sound like they care. L7 shares a new song. Heads up: it’s political. You have been warned.

STRANGER THINGS? I’ll take paying jobs that we never thought would actually happen, for $ 200 Alex.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Where’s our version?

THE OTHER SEX (badass women): The secret life of Hedy Lamarr. Incredible.

WALLET BUSTER? Mythbusters Adam Savage tries his hand at accessories. So far so good?

PUP PATROL. Part 1. Part 2. And the natural segue to this.

MANDATORY.

A revelation. So much heart in this music

RETAIL HELL: The struggle continues. This, sadly, seems to be the norm.

MEANWHILE, IN NORTH KOREA: The nation is notorious about shielding the world from what life is like for it’s citizens. This is frightening.

KISS OFF: True story. One time I saw this guy drop a man in his tracks with a head butt. So this wasn’t really a surprise.

OH NO. Oh no no no no. This seems all kind of wrong.

GOOD NEWS: Because sometime you just want to read about something that just doesn’t make you grimace or feel like shit. With that in mind, this, and this, and this.

DOG!

(thank you)

THIS IS IMPORTANT: We are on the verge of losing the internet as we know it. I haven’t met anyone who thinks this is a good idea. It is a giveaway to an industry which has proven itself undeserving of such control. This is the guy behind it.

FARM TO TABLE: I can attest to this. I’ve seen it in my community and I can’t see anything I don’t like about it.

FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF “IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN”: This is not going to help their brand.

LET’S NOT, OK? Anyone else think this is a terrible idea? At least until they get the whole hacking thing figured out?

NEVER ENOUGH KATE. NEVER.

(thank you)

LES CHATS: The one who had too much catnip. The one who changed his mind. And this is a parrot which has nothing to do with a cat but hoe lee monkeybutts this is something.

THE GIFT SHOP MUST REALLY BE SOMETHING: Introducing L.A.’s newest museum.

UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES: I’m quiet certain that the Dental Industrial Complex™ will put the kibosh on this pretty quickly. (I’m just joshing. Don’t come at me bro.)

I’VE TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES NOT TO EXAGGERATE: I”m not sure I’m buying what they’re selling over here.

FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR PUP… Everyone knows they’d rather have a steak anyway.

INCOMING!

FASHION DEAL UPDATE:

Cyber Monday 2017 – Deals for Men & Picks

Retail analysts used to dismiss Cyber Monday as little more than a joke compared to the in-store Black Friday onslaught. Times have changed. A lot. So much so that a good chunk of us (read: most) do our Black Friday shopping online. Cyber Monday is just a bonus, with sometimes slightly different and potentially better offers for the web savvy crowd (such as free shipping no minimum deals). Expect this post to be updated throughout the day.

Bonobos: 30% off or 35% off $ 500+ w/ MANIA

Bonobos

Got that? It’s 30% off. At least. Just depends on how big of a spender you happen to be. It’s been said before, but gonna say it again… their barely-there, year-round weight, Italian wool unconstructed sportcoats are fantastic.

Nordstrom: Extra 20% off Select Sale Items (ends today)

Nordstrom

Last chance fellas. Nordstrom doesn’t often play the “big sale weekend” game, and an extra 20% off their sale section is a nice bonus. So, now or never. Everything ships and returns for free too.

B.R.: 50% off NO EXCLUSIONS + Free Shipping w/ BRSHIP

Banana Republic

No exclusions, and no minimum when it comes to getting free shipping if you use the code. Those Shearling Gloves seem like a great deal at under $ 45 (shearling is great for when it gets real cold, yet they’re tough to find) and that Nicklas Sneaker could be another Killshot alternative? Stand by for a review of those. And while this site isn’t usually pro-hoodie, if you’re gonna wear a hoodie, why not one made out of extra-fine merino wool? Remember, if you’re a GAP inc card holder, you can use the code BRCARD for an exta 10% off at checkout.

Billy Reid: 20% off, no exclusions, w/ CYBERUP

Billy Reid

Nothing super cheap here, but Billy Reid knows a thing or two about quality. And years after Skyfall made that particular peacoat famous, it’s still something to behold. Nice to see it’s getting the 20% off discount. Looks like this code works on sale stuff as well.

J. Crew: 40% off + an Extra 10% off  w/ SHOPFAST

J. Crew

Now’s a really, really good time to pick up a pair of Kenton boots if you’re in the market. Lots of stuff has sold out since they launched this deal last week, but there’s still some very worthy items that are almost always excluded still up for grabs. Also, a reminder that you can stack their student/teacher 15% off discount on top of the above. (UPDATE: Looks like this isn’t stacking any more? It was earlier this weekend, but something might be wrong now?) Free shipping no minimum is back for today too. (UPDATE II: Looks like the extra 10% off has been extended through tonight, so… that’s nice of them.)

Todd Snyder: 30% off, INCLUDING Timex w/ CYBER30

Timex had been excluded from their Black Friday sale, but… not today. That collaboration is up for the discount today. Everything ships for free today as well. The fine print says the manual wind, throwback Timex Marlin is sold out, but I was just able to snag one, with the discount, and the order went through? Odd.

J. Crew Factory: 60% off + Extra 50% off Clearance + Free Ship w/code CYBER

J. Crew Factory

60% off? Can’t recall the last time they did that, unless there was some sort of odd stacking Gilt City certificate on top of a big sale going on. That makes for a terrific price on that excellent Flex Chino sportcoat. Full review here. Plus, you save an extra few bucks on shipping with the CYBER code. Also, IF you get north of $ 100, try the GIFTFACTORY code for a possible extra 20% off that $ 100+ purchase. UPDATE: Looks like those henleys are excluded? Really? Bummer.

Ledbury: Online Warehouse Sale (all sales final!

Ledbury shirts starting at $ 39? Topping out at $ 59? You friggin’ serious? Lots of patterns and what not, no wheelhouse dress solids, but still. That’s incredible. They’ve got some oxfords in there too. ALL FINAL SALE THOUGH. Big thanks to everyone who sent in the style tips on this event!

H&M: 30% off sitewide + Free Shipping w/ 9054

Another reminder about sticking to the “premium quality” stuff at H&M. Might pay off in the long run. 30% off sitewide through today, plus free shipping with the code.

Target: 15% off30% off Men’s Sweaters + Free Shipping no min.

Target

And that includes their Goodfellow & Co. stuff, which is getting pretty nice reviews online. Just be aware that sizing can sometimes be a bit goofy/the gap between some sizes can be awfully large. Meanwhile, Target is offering free standard shipping through 12/23. Extra 15% comes off at checkout.

Huckberry: New Sales (including a Boot event + Woolrich sale)

Astorflex "Greenflex" Chukka from Huckberry

Those made in Italy Astorflex Chukkas, at that price, are a steal. Meanwhile, plenty of Dappered Space approved, American made blankets and throws in the Woolrich sale.

EXPRESS: 50% Off Everything + Free Shipping no min.

Express

Like J. Crew, EXPRESS is a little low in stock on some items. They got hammered pretty good on Black Friday. Nice to see their blanket 50% off discount AND free shipping no minimum is back.

GAP: 50% off Everything + Extra 10% off w/ TREAT

GAP

Looks like a bunch of new arrivals dropped over the weekend. That corduroy puffer jacket looks like it could be a very solid addition for more than half off. Also, good to see that they’ve been leaning on their 50% merino / 50% nylon sweater fabric once again this year. It’s a good blend. Smooth and durable.

Amazon: Select Cyber Monday Deals on Men’s Clothing/Shoes/Watches

Appears to be the same stuff that was marked down for Black Friday? It’s quite a haystack, but, there are a few needles in there. UPDATE: I stand corrected… kinda. Looks like their in-house brand “Buttoned down” (shirt review here) is now makeing 100% cashmere sweaters? Those are going for $ 62.30 today. Thanks to Tim for the tip!

Lands’ End: 50% off Everything w/ MONDAY & 4767

Lands' End

Lands’ End maxes their discounts out at 50% off. That’s relatively rare, and usually when they do those, they limit it to just one item. So, no limit this time and it also works on sale stuff.

UNIQLO: Select Deals + Free Shipping no Min.

UNIQLO sweater

Not much different from the Black Friday offer, but the free shipping no minimum addition is awfully nice of them.

Gustin: New Made in the USA Wingtip Boots for $ 249

Not a true Goodyear welt, but instead a Blake/Rapid construction. Nice to see that a bit of grip on the sole comes standard. Remember, this is Gustin, so it’s a pre-order (ships in Feb.) and returns/exchanges can be… well, impossible. Check out their exchange policy here.

Duluth Pack: 35% off their Made in the USA Luggage

The Pick: Sportsman’s duffel in waxed canvas – $ 305.50 ($ 470)

Huge thanks to Jason J. for sending in the tip on this one. Duluth Pack makes gorgeous, classic, tough luggage. And sales are… not often if memory serves. Shown above is the waxed canvas option, which runs an extra $ 22.75 compared to the regular canvas version (of which there are a TON of colors to pick from.)

Also Worth a Mention:

  • Allen Edmonds Shoebank: Up to $ 200 off select models, but remember, they’ve jacked the restocking fee on Factory 2nds up to $ 25.
  • Brooks Brothers: 10% off site wide + free shipping no min. w/ CYBER17
  • Club Monaco: 25% off $ 150, 30% off $ 250, 35% off $ 400 w/ SHOPMONDAY

FASHION DEAL UPDATE:

Black Friday 2017 Deals for Men + Picks

Black Friday. A mess in person, but thanks to the explosion of e-commerce, you can hunker down at home while avoiding the crush of humanity at all the brick & mortar stores. Cyber Monday? Still also worth paying attention to, but many brands and retailers have outstanding discounts being offered online today. There’s been even more Black Friday “creep” this year, with some of these deals launching pre-Thanksgiving, but Friday is still the day when the push is made. Here’s some of the best style-centric deals for men running today. Picks are scattered about when something was too good not to specifically mention.

Nordstrom: Extra 20% off Select Sale items through 11/27

Nordstrom

Second year in a row that Nordstrom is actually doing something specific and quantifiable for Black Friday. No code or anything needed. The extra % off is reflected in the prices on their site. And as always, since it’s Nordstrom, everything ships and returns for free. Big fan of the lay out on that Nordy peacoat. Chest high hand pockets + an extra bit of length to the tail = what most of us are after. Meanwhile, those Weiss watches (which are assembled here in the USA from Swiss components) are one hell of a deal, if you’re into collecting mechanicals and don’t balk at that kind of price.

J.C.F.: 50-60% off your purchase + Extra 50% off clearance w/ FRIYAY + Extra 20% off $ 100+ w/ GIFTFACTORY

J. Crew Factory

Got all that? If you head into double digits, don’t forget to use the GIFTFACTORY code. That’ll take an extra 20% off on top of the 50% – 60% off that they’re running on their site. Meanwhile, that Unconstructed flex chino sportcoat? It’s a winner. Full review of that can be found here.

Banana Republic: 50% Off Reg. Priced Items, no BR Merch exclusions

Banana Republic

No code needed here. But? If you’re a card member? You should be able to knock an extra 10% off at checkout with the code BRCARD. Only limitation is that it has to be regular price (no 3rd party either if I’m not mistaken). More picks here if you want em’.

Club Monaco: 25% off $ 150, 30% off $ 250, 35% off $ 400 w/ SHOPFRIDAY

Allen Edmonds Liverpool

At post time, this is working on almost all 3rd party goods. Looks like Birkenstock, Viberg, Woolrich, & Zespa are the only exclusions? That is very, very kind of Club Monaco to do. Under $ 300 for those new AE Chelsea “Liverpool” boots is gonna be very, very tough to beat. Full review of those can be found here.

Amazon: Select Deals on Men’s Shoes/Watches/Clothes

Amazon deals

There’s no specific % off this year, but of the select items, there does seem to be a trend of serious discounts. For example, that Invicta diver usually runs in the $ 80 range. That retro looking Seiko? More like the mid $ 200s. Big thanks to Justin B. for the tip!

J. Crew: 40% off most Reg. + 40% – 50% off Sale w/ THANKU

J. Crew

In case you missed it the other day. One of the best sales J. Crew has run in recent memory. Even most of their suits are getting the 40% off cut. Works on sale items too. Full picks can be found here. Shown above is the Legacy blazer, as well as the uconstructured workwear blazer in “dark pine” (which, the camera seems to think leans more charcoal, but it really is a dark green in person). Also, if you’re a student or a teacher? You can stack their student/teacher 15% off discount on top of the above. Big thanks to Vince B. for that tip!

Spier & Mackay: 20% off everything w/ BF2017

And it works with bundle pricing too? Not bad. Head here for an in-person with their contemporary fit suits. Also? It looks like they’re now making tuxedos. Midnight navy too…

L.E.: 50% off Everything (sale too…) w/ FRIDAY & 2565

Lands' End

Picks above are limited to items that are already on sale. Why? Because Lands’ End almost always excludes sale items from their 50% off deals. And that’s not the case here. Want some newer, less clearance-y stuff to check out? Head here. And remember, you’re not limited to one item this go round.

EXPRESS: 50% off Everything + Free Shipping No Min.

Express

Well that’s awfully kind. Half off and free shipping? Express doesn’t appeal to everyone, but they do make some more toned down/less flashy designs.  Plus… can’t think of a place I’d rather not be in the world of retail than an EXPRESS store in a mall on Black Friday. Enough to drive you batty.

H&M: 30% off Everything w/ 5977

Not everyone likes H&M, despite their (and the rest of “fast fashion”) to disrupt the entire industry. So, a bit of a tip. Stick to the “premium quality” labeled stuff. It’s almost always better made, and you can find some real deals lurking in that line.

LL Bean: 25% off w/ FRIDAY25

Works on Bean boots too. Not limited to just clothing and outerwear like their deal from yesterday.

Ledbury: 35% off w/ THANKFUL35

Ledbury

As good as it gets for Ledbury, and their outstanding collection of shirts. Of course they do more than shirts, but it’s their fine twill dress shirts, with that perfectly placed, slightly lowered 2nd button, that many of us drool over. And they’re extremely hard to find on discount. So this? This is the time to nab one (or, more) if you’re interested and your budget allows. Looks like THANKFUL35 runs through Friday. TURKEY35 should work too. If you’re late to the party, GRAVY30 will be good for 30% off Saturday, and LEFTOVERS25 for 25% off Sunday.

GAP: 50% off everything w/ BLKFRIDAY + Extra 10% off w/ JUST4YOU

GAP

Excellent. Half off but they’re also offering an extra 10% off that half off price cherry on top with the JUST4YOU code. Looks like this one is set to expire on Saturday? Big thanks to Brandon D. for pointing out that their Belstaff jackets ARE getting this cut. Still super spendy, but… boy I still can’t believe GAP is carrying Belstaff. Interesting collaboration there.

Allen Edmonds: Select Models $ 199 + $ 50 off Select Boots

Allen Edmonds

Same deal as was mentioned in the Tripod the other day. There’s a couple models in this small-ish selection that are absolutely worth a look if you’re wanting to save serious cash. 1st quality, very much made in Port Washington Wisconsin, and Goodyear welted. Not bad for just under two bills.

Allen Edmonds Shoebank: Up to 60% off Select Models

AE Daltons

We interrupt this otherwise pretty nifty and positive Black Friday round up with some weird/unfortunate retail news: The Shoebank has jacked their restocking fee on returned Factory 2nds up to $ 25. It was just ten bucks. Not great Bob (or, is it Maclom?) . So yeah. That stinks. Are they trying to wreck the strides they’ve made in e-commerce when it comes to their factory 2nds? That’s a hell of a gamble, twenty five bucks. Sure, many of us have received shoes that look 99% awesome. But some show up and they just aren’t acceptable. So, tread carefully.

East Dane: 20% off $ 200+, $ 25% off $ 500+, 30% off $ 800+ w/ MORE17

East Dane

“More” ??  You want More Bro-tein Shake? Teddy Brosevelt? Anyway… this is much better than last year’s Black Friday offer from East Dane. That first tier was just 15% off last year. Nice to see it jump a bit. And East Dane continues to be one of the rare places to get a Filson original brief on discount. Meanwhile, $ 224 for those Loake chelseas is quite a nice price. Full review of them can be found here. More of a chukka type? Head here for a review of the Loake Kempton, which is also on sale.

Huckberry: Black Friday Events / Select Item Sales

Armogan Le Mans Chronograph

Deals are separated into apparel and gear, plus specific brands are also getting some decent cuts. Full review of that Le Mans Chrono can be found here, and the exclusive to Huckberry Chips can be found here.

FormFunctionForm: 25% off w/ FFFreakingPutItOnYourListAlready

Form Function Form

Fine. Leather. Goods. Treat yo self! Form Function Form balances, beautifully, the luxury of high quality leather with rugged construction and the value that comes with being made by hand here in the USA. For those who like to stay organized, carry business cards at all times, and also take a note or two on the go, check out the brand new Field Rep Wallet. Discount is good through Monday, the 28th.

Bonobos: 25% off $ 150, or 30% off $ 250 w/ THANKFUL

Bonobos Black Friday

A heads up. If past is prologue, then know in years past Bonobos has had their best deal/deals on Cyber Monday. They are, after-all, a mostly web based business. So unless you’re spooked about something selling out, or, you don’t want to risk it? Then you might want to sit tight.

Crown & Buckle: 20% – 40% off select watch straps

Crown & Buckle

Got a watch that’s in need of a refresh? One of the easiest ways to make an old watch look new is to go with a new strap. Crown and Buckle is offering 40% off their core collection, and 20% off their fancy pants stuff through 10am on Tuesday. Domestic shipping is free too.

Brooks Brothers: 4 Select Shirts for $ 199

Not the most tongue wagging deal of the day, but will certainly appeal to some. If you’re a fan of the Brooks Brothers non iron dress shirt lineup, then now’s not a bad time to stock up. But, it’s gotta be from their selection of shirts.

Orient: 50% off w/ BF2017

Orient Polaris

The Pick: Orient Polaris GMT Automatic – $ 287.50 ($ 575)

Remember, even at 50% off, not all of Orient’s Models can be had for their cheapest price direct through Orient. But the Polaris? That’s going for the mid $ 300s through 3rd parties. So under $ 290 is about as good as it’s gonna get. And it’s one hell of a wristwatch. Code won’t work on the Mako USA II.

UNIQLO: Extra Fine Merino Sweaters are $ 10 off

Was $ 39.90, now down to $ 29.90. And cashmere is $ 20 off. It’s a select items sorta day/weekend for UNIQLO.

Charles Tyrwhitt: 25% off & Free shipping at $ 75 w/ FRIDAY25

Not a bad time to pick up something other than shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt. I know the above coat gets lots of play here on this site, but it really is something. Also worth a look would be their Goodyear welted shoes. Starting at $ 199 for the “imported” models (see a review here), and much spendier if you get the made in the UK shoes.

Also Worth a Mention:

  • The Tie Bar: Free socks with purchase of at least $ 40. Promo Code FESTIVE, free standard US shipping at $ 30
  • Todd Snyder: 30% off Todd Snyder and Todd Snyder + Champion collections w/ HOLIDAY30
  • Timex: 25% off Sitewide + Free Shipping w/ BLACKFRIDAY25 (some exclusions may apply)
  • DSW: 20% off everything (some brand exclusions may apply)
  • Old Navy: 50% off everything
  • END Clothing: 20% off w/ BLACKFRIDAY (some exclusions apply)

Democrats are trying to block Trump’s judge picks with vile, hypocritical smears

Democrats and the liberal media are slamming President Trump for packing federal courts with supposedly “unfit” judges. Nonsense. Trump’s nominees have impressive credentials. What’s the left’s real gripe? These judges will decide cases based on what the US Constitution says, instead of rewriting law to suit a progressive agenda. Look for fireworks in the Senate…

Jon Bernthal Picks His Favourite Violent Moments in ‘The Punisher’

It’s no secret that The Punisher is incredibly violent. There’s plenty of brutality throughout the other series’ in the Defenders stable, including Daredevil — Season 2, which features the Punisher himself, Frank Castle. But The Punisher is next level. Episode after episode, scene after scene, the violence keeps coming, with some genuinely savage moments.

The Punisher star Jon Bernthal shares his two favourites of the show’s many violent scenes exclusively with FANDOM, and why he likes them so much. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot also shares his thoughts.

“I like it when it’s intimate,” says Bernthal. “So the stuff in Episode 12 with Rawlins and being face to face, I really enjoyed that, and I really enjoyed the moment when [Frank] gets back up and the fight at the end of [Episode] three. I’m talking really from experiencing it, not seeing it, but I enjoy [on-screen violence].”

The-Punisher-04
Rawlins — the man in charge of a covert CIA operation, who wants Castle dead.

Bernthal is quick to point out that the extreme violence is a necessary part of Frank Castle’s story, and therefore it’s important that we see it.

“It’s not just violence for the sake of violence, there’s something behind it. And I think for Frank there’s a bit of momentary — I’ve always thought it — [it’s] a little bit like addiction for him,” he says. “He’s in this constant world of darkness. There’s no light at the end of the tunnel, and he’s not searching for light. This is where he is and he’s accepted it, and if there’s ever any relief for him I think it’s watching someone take his last breath or seeing the fear in his eyes. It does something to him.”

Bernthal adds, “We all have our deepest darkest fears and his have been realised, and everything he does is in reaction to that. So I hope we’ve made a version [of The Punisher] that’s brutal enough to do it justice and has enough art to give him justice.”

It’s All About the Emotion

Showrunner Steve Lightfoot agrees with Bernthal about the necessity of the graphic nature of the violence we see — and picks the fight with Rawlins at the end of Episode 12 as well as the climax to Episode 13 as his favourite scenes.

“I don’t think I can really choose between them,” says Lightfoot. “And the reason it’s those is because there was so much build up to them. Both of those are the final scenes with the villains who have put Frank through so much. And for me, sort of what Jon was saying, I think violence for its own sake is one thing, but when there’s so much emotion attached to it, and the whole season has been about those two scenes, what I love about those [is] there’s just so much emotion in them. They’re both really sad scenes in the end and I just love what Jon and the other cast did.”

The Punisher premieres on Netflix on November 17.

Justin Thomas picks the right major at the right time to win

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The son and grandson of golf professionals, Justin Thomas couldn’t think of a better major to win than the PGA Championship.

And at age 24, he couldn’t think of a better time.

Youth is taking over the highest level of golf, and there were times Thomas felt left behind. Rory McIlroy already had four majors when he was 25. Closer to home was Jordan Spieth, a close friend since they were 14. Spieth won his third major at the British Open last month to give him three legs of the career Grand Slam.
