The best place in America to buy a vacation home

Ever considered buying a vacation home? They’re not for everyone, and some of us definitely can’t afford one. However, if you’ve got the money going spare, buying one of these might be a worthy investment. There are a lot of benefits that come with pouring your money into a home away from home, but what location do you pick? Somewhere by the coast, or up in the mountains? Do you get a place in the center of town or more on the outskirts? You don’t need to keep worrying about the questions, because we’ve found the answers.

Where to set your sights

If you’re in the market for a vacation home, then there’s one place you need to check out – Panama City Beach in Florida. Just one look at this place should make you fall in love. The white beaches, clear water, and gorgeous weather are the perfect combination for any vacation. Whenever you need to get away from the world for some relaxation, Panama City Beach has got you covered.

While it’s an ideal vacation spot for some time in the sun, that’s not the only reason why you need to buy yourself a second home here.

Renting it out

When you purchase a vacation home, you don’t intend on staying there all the time. You might go there a few weeks a year or, if you live nearby, take trips there at the weekend. Apart from that, though, the house will remain empty. If you’ve got a savvy business mind, you’ll know that this is the perfect opportunity to turn your new vacation property into a money maker.

Many people rent out there vacation homes during the weeks and months when they’re not staying there. It prevents the house from being abandoned for too long and at risk of being broken into. Plus, it’s a great way of bringing in some extra income. You’ve shelled out money for this new house, so you need it to start paying for itself.

Why is Panama City Beach the best place to do this over everywhere else, though?

Future investment

Simply put, Panama City Beach has the highest return on investment for rental properties compared to everywhere else in the country. The cost of renting out a house compares favorably to the cost of owning it, which means it’s worth keeping it on the market. Moreover, Panama City Beach is incredibly popular with tourists, especially when spring break season comes around. People flock to the area to take advantage of its gorgeous weather and great atmosphere, so there’s an almost constant need for somewhere to stay throughout the year. If you own one of the properties in the area, you’d likely have someone staying there constantly.

Moving to Florida

Even if Panama City Beach isn’t right for you, there’s probably somewhere in the Sunshine State worth investing in. On a list of the best 150 rental cities in the country, Florida appears more than any other state in the top 25. It’s the best place in the United States for beach vacations, which is why rental properties here are such a hot commodity. If you think you’re ready to hire out your new vacation home to other tourists, this may well be the place for you. The income that your investment brings in will be more than worth it.

If you haven’t already started looking for vacation homes to purchase in Panama City Beach, what are you waiting for? Not only will you find a new place to stay in a beautiful part of the country, but you’ll also have an amazing investment property on your hands. It’s a win-win situation.

Nicki Minaj’s Introspective New Album Queen Reasserts Her Place Near the Top

In the nearly four years since Nicki Minaj released her third album The Pinkprint, a lot has happened: the U.S. elected a chaos-inducing president, the #MeToo movement took off, Kanye West and Taylor Swift ran hot and cold multiple times. But perhaps most crucially for the Queens-born MC, a cross-borough rival — the reality star-turned-pop sensation Cardi B — emerged from the mixtape and Instagram wilds, her boastful breakthrough single “Bodak Yellow” topping the Hot 100. While Minaj was hardly dormant during her between-album intermission, collaborating with pop supernovas like Ariana Grande and Madonna as well as MCs like her Young Money labelmates Drake and Lil Wayne, the possibility of pitting two women against each other in the male-dominated world of hip-hop proved too tantalizing for tongue-waggers.

Queen (Young Money/Cash Money/Republic), which came out Friday, is Minaj’s attempt to muzzle the gossip folks, a wild ride stuffed with A-list guests (in addition to Grande, Eminem, Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee, and Lil Wayne drop by) where Minaj immerses herself in hip-hop history and her own emotional trials. While casual listeners might know Minaj best from the sparkling 2011 single “Super Bass” and the eye-popping hair colors she sported during that period, Queen marks her territory as a hip-hop artist who hasn’t let her travels around the world make her forget the lessons she absorbed while she went around the block.

Queen opens with Minaj in pensive mode, smoking weed and ruminating on the forces aligning against her on “Ganja Burns” — people biting her style while using ghostwriters, energy-sucking men, people whose memories won’t stop lingering. But she doesn’t brood for long, embracing the “living well is the best revenge” ideal instead — flipping a script originally written by Brooklyn legend The Notorious B.I.G. on the raunchy (yet appreciative) “Barbie Dreams;” thrilling in the internal rhymes on the drug-laden chorus of “Miami;” shouting out Caribbean musicians over the clamorous beat of “Coco Chanel,” which features fellow Trinidiadian-New Yorker Foxy Brown. They balance out the more introspective moments, like the Weeknd-assisted sulk “Thought I Knew You” and the longing “Come See About Me” — the latter of which features Minaj singing to someone whose absence hollows out her success.

Minaj is a restless lyricist who thrills in her audacity almost as soon as she realizes it, although her tendencies toward rhyming a word with itself can get a bit monotonous, particularly across the wide span of a 19-track, hour-plus album. Queen‘s beats — crafted by producers like the Atlanta trap architect Mike Will Made-It and the Drake associate Boi-1da — straddle the boundary between 2018 and the next wave in a way that demands up-close listening. For the most part, its guests seem energized to bring their A-game, with Eminem rapping like he’s trying to put out a fire on the woozy “Majesty,” Grande supplying fizzy vocal runs to the seductive “Bed” and Swae Lee of the brotherly rap duo Rae Sremmurd offering up an oddly beautiful hook on the fever-dreamy “Chun Swae.”

If there’s one recent blockbuster release that Queen recalls, it’s Rihanna’s Anti — similarly accompanied by regal themes, that 2016 album balanced A-lister boasts with solitary, substance-aided introspection. Like Queen, Anti was introduced by splashy tracks (“Bed” and “Chun-Li” for Queen, the sinewy Drake collab “Work” for Anti) made for maximum radio impact; deeper dives revealed more complex emotions, fleshing out the person behind the social-media avatar in sometimes-messy ways. And like Anti, Queen asserts Minaj’s rightful place if not at the top, then certainly near it — and perhaps more importantly, it makes one realize that even world-beating achievements and high-end brands can’t blot out a person’s need for intimacy.

‘A Quiet Place’ Breakout Star on Being a Deaf Role Model, What’s Next

Millicent Simmonds may be the breakout star of the horror hit A Quiet Place, but she remains humble about her status as a deaf icon and her future in the entertainment industry.

The film recently came out for home entertainment, allowing audiences to relive the suspenseful story, or experience for the first time.

Simmonds, who is just 15, admits she was surprised by the film’s success (read our review here).

I didn’t imagine it would take off like this and it was quite a surprise to see that and how much interest people have in this movie,” she told FANDOM’s Clarke Wolfe.

Part of the interest is in her character Regan, the deaf daughter of Lee (John Krasinski) and Evelyn (Emily Blunt). The actors learned American Sign Language from instructors, and Simmonds also helped with teaching.

To see a deaf actor in a deaf role has thrust Simmonds into the spotlight, which she is willing to share.

“It’s really great but it’s not just me as a deaf role model: it’s Lauren Ridloff, it’s Shoshannah [Stern], it’s Josh Feldman, Nyle DiMarco. All of these great actors and people that are involved in Hollywood,” she explained. “They’re deaf and they’ve inspired me as well. It’s nice for me to be able to connect to the community that I am part of.”

That community has praised her on social media:

Simmonds has received critical acclaim for her role in Wonderstruck, including a Critic’s Choice Awards. Expect to see her get some more nominations for A Quiet Place as awards season comes around.

The movie is out on digital, Blu-ray and 4k.

In the bonus clip, Simmonds discusses working with Krasinski in his directorial debut.

Outside seating and day beds have been set up around the pool area, with sun loungers and an al-fresco bar set up for late-night drinks.

The villa also boasts an enormous pool, gym area and jacuzzi.

The round seating area complete with a fancy fire pit is still in place, along with the enormous open-plan kitchen and living room.

Staff have been busy for weeks setting up the hidden cameras and linking up the microphones to make sure every cough and spit is captured on screen.

Why Cryptocurrency Has A Place In Hip-Hop

Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is the future of finance. Just last year, Bitcoin commanded headlines when its stock rose from less than $ 1,000 a share to more than $ 17,000 a share. Six years before that, one Bitcoin was worth less than a dollar. Those with a true eye for opportunity are looking for ways to be the first to usher cryptocurrency into their respective industry. When it comes to music, super-producer Christopher “Drumma Boy” Gholson is at the forefront as a member of the board of advisors for XYO Network, the first decentralized cryptographic-location network making smart contracts possible through GPS tracking. Smart contract’s make it possible to digitally facilitate and verify transactions without third parties, like banks.

Drumma Boy believes in finding opportunity in growing markets and keeping like-minded people in your circle to circulate those opportunities. As a member of XYO Network’s board of advisors, he’s focused on raising brand awareness by circulating this cryptocurrency opportunity amongst colleagues in music and more. Ironically, he’s playing the position he’s always played. Producing the outline for others to fill with their own vision. I spoke to Drumma Boy about his foray into the tech space, and how he sees cryptocurrency impacting the music industry.

When did you first become familiar with cryptocurrency and blockchain technology?

About two years ago, I had my eye on Bitcoin for a while. Someone offered to pay for my flight using Etherum (a form of Bitcoin), and I just left it in my account and watched it grow. You have to be comfortable with investing money you’re prepared to lose. I’ll spend $ 500 on shoes anyway, so I’d rather watch it grow to $ 7,000.

How did you end up connecting with XYO Oracle Network?

A lot of it has to do with work I’ve done with corporate companies in the past. I’ve made theme songs for the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Atlanta Hawks. I’ve done scores for Beats by Dre and SMS Audio commercials. A lot of people didn’t realize the power of working hand in hand with the actual companies. One day I got a call from a friend who knew a company looking for a producer for some music, it was XYO. They flew me out to meet the team in San Diego, and through conversation, they saw that I was tech savvy. Originally they paid me to do a theme song, and the relationship grew from there.

Can you explain your concept of combining hip-hop and cryptocurrency? In what scenarios does it apply?

It’s another option for payment of services. It could include everything from paying everyone from your engineer to your booking agent. For example, if you know you’re going to pay thousands for a beat, the coin form should be an option. The XYO coin is at an affordable price right now, why not acquire coins now to buy and sell from your account while your money grows? Atlanta is making so much money in music right now. What are we doing with these funds? Why not put $ 10, $ 20, $ 30,000 into an account and make a flip. This is a cushion you can have with the fastest growing coin I’ve ever seen. This is the first of its kind that sponsors stuff like NASCAR. That’s an indicator of profitability.

Jameela Jamil on the #IWeigh movement and finding her own Good Place

As a T4 presenter, her sardonic wit used to make Sunday hangovers bearable. Now, Jameela Jamil is using her new role as a US comedy queen to kick-start a body positivity movement.

‘What you’re trying to say is, “What the fuck am I doing here?”’ says Jameela Jamil, with a laugh down the phone from LA. I’ve been scrambling around for a tactful way of saying how surprising it was to see the British presenter and DJ pop up all of a sudden on an American sitcom. And not just any sitcom, Parks And Recreation creator Michael Schur’s The Good Place, one of the smartest and buzziest comedies to come out of the US in years.

Jamil just assumes every other actress in LA with the casting call requirement – a British woman of Pakistani descent – ‘must have died’ when her manager sent her to audition for the role of brilliant-awful socialite Tahani in The Good Place. A year earlier, she had left London after a breast-cancer scare gave her the push she needed to quit her Radio 1 job and relocate to Hollywood to pursue a long-held ambition of comedy writing – ‘so I would know that by the time I was 30, I had grabbed life by its balls’.

With no acting experience, she thought the audition would be, at best, an interesting experience and an opportunity to meet Schur, a comedy writing legend. Schur had different ideas and signed Jamil up to a seven-year contract. ‘You don’t presume that life could be so ridiculous that you would start a new career at 30 years old… as an actress,’ she says.

But it’s not just Jamil’s reinvention as a comedy star that’s drawing headlines. With The Good Place going into its third season, the former presenter is also using her mushrooming platform to air some undiluted views about feminism and body image.

Earlier this year, a searing blog post she wrote about consent following the Aziz Ansari furore (‘women must learn that no is a right, not a privilege’) went viral. Shortly after that she became so incensed by an Instagram post showing the Kardashian family with their corresponding weights that she kick-started a new body positivity movement, inviting women to share their real ‘weight’ (for instance, ‘I weigh: lovely relationship, great friends, wonderful husband, financial independence’). The Instagram account @I_Weigh now has 26k followers. You get the sense this is just the tip of the iceberg…

You went into The Good Place with no acting experience. How did you style it out?
‘I think you can see in the first three episodes that I don’t really know what the fuck I’m doing! But spending 16 hours a day with talented actors [Ted Danson and Kristen Bell], you learn what to do by osmosis.’

Were you nervous?
‘Well, all of the jobs I’ve ever done I’ve never been prepared for. I didn’t know after my first audition that I’d end up on T4, and I didn’t think after one audition I would get my own show on Radio 1. I got very, very lucky, but I was also thrown massively into the deep end. There’s no time to think about how scared you are.’

How did the expectations of starring in a US sitcom measure up to the reality?
‘It’s a much bigger beast than I could have imagined. I’ve been on TV for ten years, but English budgets are so much smaller – you can find yourself pissing in a ditch on location. I wasn’t prepared for having my own trailer with a fake fireplace in it. And the catering! I’m not one to worry about gaining weight, but my costumes were fitted a month before filming and all the food here is laced with corn syrup – so I sort of ate my way out of all my clothes. It was stressful for the costume department.’

Your character Tahani in The Good Place is a former London socialite. Did you model her on anyone specific?
‘Oh, for sure. All the London socialites! Any time I DJed at a party, the people who would turn up have bled into Tahani. It was fun to exercise the things that annoyed me about some people I’ve met… who I won’t name [laughs]. It’s also great showing a different side of English people to the ones who normally appear on American sitcoms – that oppressed passive aggression we’re so good at.’

Tahani is an excessive name-dropper. Do you have any great name drops of your own from living in LA?
‘I did get to meet Jay-Z, as he worked with my boyfriend [the musician James Blake]. He was very sweet and professional.’

Who was your favourite interviewee?
‘Mariah Carey. She starts with confidence, moves past arrogance and then goes straight into legend. I loved her.
I also had to give Kim Kardashian a manicure once on T4. I’m terrible with anything to do with beauty and she’d just had a thousand dollar manicure that I then destroyed.’

‘I had the ability to urinate on my own taken away from me for a year. My brother had to carry me [to the bathroom] to wee.’

The #IWeigh campaign has really gathered steam. Have you been moved by the response?
‘Yeah, I’ve actually cried several times from the things women have written to me! It’s something I’ve wanted to do for so long, but couldn’t work out how to do it. I’ve been talking about body positivity for ten years now – when I first started, then when I gained all that weight at Radio 1 because I was on steroids for asthma. It’s been quite heartbreaking too, as I’ve received thousands of messages from women saying they’d love to take part in the campaign, but can’t find anything nice to say about themselves. You think, “God, you’re so polluted by this idea of not being good enough because someone told you you’re not.”’

A post shared by I Weigh (@i_weigh) on

You were in a car accident when you were 17 and told you might not walk again. Do you think the process of watching your body then fully recover made you feel we should all be kinder to ourselves?
‘For sure. It’s a big part of why I don’t ever get facials or manicures. I had the ability to urinate on my own taken away from me for a year. My brother had to carry me [to the bathroom] to wee. There’s something about being able to finally function by myself, to be given the gift of carrying on with life, that is so sacred to me. When I was lying there being told I might not be able to walk again on my own, I wasn’t thinking about what my body had looked like my whole life, I was thinking about my life in its entirety.’

Are there things you give less of a toss about now you’re in your thirties?
‘I continue to use age as a gateway to perspective. When I was younger, I used to only be able to stand up for other people, but now I’m good at saying no. I’ve [also] made a lot of changes, unfollowed toxic people on Instagram. That’s something I’d urge women much younger than me to do. I wish I’d learned to do that years ago, but I’ve definitely toughened up with age.’

‘SNL’ asks: What if Kanye West was the real monster in ‘A Quiet Place’?

TwitterFacebook

A Quiet Place is sensational. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the whole schtick is there are these monsters with hyper-acute hearing. Make too much noise and you’re dead. Most of the movies plays out in whispers and held breath.

Saturday Night Live used the horror hit to riff on Kanye West’s increasingly problematic adoration of Donald Trump. Even if the whole thing is an elaborate performance art piece, Kanye’s having a real moment (again) thanks to his enthusiasm for a president who is a thinly veiled racist and a proven, irrepressible liar.

The result is this sketch, “A Kanye Place.” It’s perfect. Read more…

Place Your Bets on Who Will Die in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Avengers: Infinity War is going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. It’s a safe bet that some characters aren’t going to make it out alive when they come face to face with Thanos and his minions. But, if you were going put a few bucks on who will live and who will die, which are the safe bets and which ones might be a little bit risky?

We’ve crunched the numbers and done tons of thorough research and come up with the definitive list of who might be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe for good.

Ant-Man

Ant-Man and The Wasp

Scott Lang isn’t being featured prominently in the marketing for Avengers: Infinity War, and he’ll be headlining his own solo feature only a few months after Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters. As far as we know, the events in Ant-Man and the Wasp take place after Avengers: Infinity War. That makes Ant-Man’s fate pretty clear.

Odds of death: Save your money.

Black Panther

Black Panther is one of the highest grossing films of all time and a sequel is already in the works. ‘Nuff said.

Odds of death: Save your money.

Black Widow

Fans have been clamoring for a Black Widow film for years. Scarlett Johansson doesn’t seem like she’s ready to leave the role either. And it might not be so cool to kill off one of your few female characters.

Odds of death: Slim to none.

Bucky Barnes

captain america bucky barnes feature

Bucky just found a new home in Wakanda and is likely to become its adopted son. And some behind the scenes info helps us solve this question. Sebastian Stan is signed up for a nine-picture deal — which does not include cameos — and he hasn’t gotten close to completing that.

Odds of death: Save your money.

Captain America

Avengers: Infinity War Captain America Thanos

Though Chris Evans has said he’ll be returning for Avengers 4, it’s possible he’ll only be showing up in newly shot flashbacks. Evans has been in the role for a long time and seems like he’s getting ready to hang up the shield once and for all.

Odds of death: Average-to-possible. Worth a mid-level bet.

Doctor Strange

Doctor-Strange

Stephen Strange has only recently been introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, he’s our only inlet into the magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for now. No way we’re losing that at this juncture.

Odds of death: Save your money.

Falcon

Anthony Mackie as Falcon.

Sam Wilson has been a wonderful partner to Steve Rogers ever since Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And if Cap does bite the dust, it’s possible that Falcon will take up the mantle for a new generation. That puts his chances of survival pretty high.

Odds of death: Slim to none.

The Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

This cast is the best ensemble in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is already on the way. If any of the key heroes were going to die, it’d probably be in their own trilogy. However, Nebula‘s quest for revenge against Thanos could make her a sacrifice that galvanizes Gamora in a way we haven’t seen before. And seeing her cope with her sister’s death in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sounds like a good narrative beat to explore.

Odds of Death: On Nebula, it’s pretty high. Everyone else is either safe or a very low chance of dying.

Hawkeye

With his lack of presence in marketing and Jeremy Renner’s long-running attachment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hawkeye is definitely on the chopping block. Though, he could escape a grisly fate and bring everything to a close in Avengers 4. He’s certainly a death that will hit for a lot of fans. It’s just a matter of which film is going to be his last.

Odds of Death: High but not enough to go all-in.

Hulk

Thor-Ragnarok-Hulk

Hulk has only begun to show his full potential in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and fans have come to love him even more after his turn in Thor: Ragnarok. He’ll probably take the biggest beating he’s received yet but he’ll still come out on top when it’s all over.

Odds of death: Slim to none.

Iron Man

This is so expected that it feels like a no-brainer. Robert Downey, Jr. kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it seems fitting that this momentous film should be Tony Stark‘s exit. Not to mention that it’s just getting too expensive to keep hiring RDJ for each successive picture.

Odds of death: Bet the farm.

Loki

Loki has been a thorn in our heroes’ side for a very long time, but Avengers: Infinity War is looking like it could be his last hurrah. He’s seen giving Thanos the Tesseract but it’s likely that the Mad Titan will punish the Asgardian trickster for his failure in The Avengers. And losing Tom Hiddleston will cause a huge reaction from fans, and Marvel is definitely going big for this flick.

Odds of death: Very high.

Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch

Elizabeth Olsen hasn’t been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for too long. So, it’s likely that the filmmakers have bigger plans for Wanda Maximoff. In fact, her reality-warping powers could very well play a big part in trying to fix whatever horrible events happen because of Avengers: Infinity War. And sadly, it’s much more likely that Scarlet Witch is going to lose someone she loves instead of her own life.

Odds of death: Slim to none.

Spider-Man

iron spider armor feature

No way. We’ve already got another Spider-Man movie in the works and we just got Tom Holland in the mix as Peter Parker. He’s so safe that it hurts.

Odds of death: Save your money.

Thor

thor: ragnarok topic card feature hero

For a while, it was thought that Thor would be one of the casualties of Avengers: Infinity War. But, with the success of Thor: Ragnarok and a newly re-energized Chris Hemsworth, it’s likely that he’s going to stick around for at least one more outing. But, he could be one of the big surprise deaths if that’s how Marvel wants to play it.

Odds of death: Average-to-low.

Vision

avengers vision dies feature

This one hurts. It certainly looks like Vision is going to be an early casualty of the film. We know that Vision and Scarlet Witch will be meeting in secret since they are on opposing teams after the events of Captain America: Civil War. It’s sounding like Avengers: Infinity War is going to position their romance as something that audiences will be strongly attached to, and then will be devastated when it’s torn apart by the death of Vision.

Odds of death: Very high.

Tread lightly, because spoilers for the ending of A Quiet Place are afoot.

The new horror movie making noise at the box office and wowing critics is also leaving audiences speechless. And part of the success of John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place can be attributed to its subtle approach to worldbuilding, leaving many details about its post-apocalyptic setting unsaid (literally).

Like most of the best horror films (The Witch, The Babadook, Alien, Get Out, The Shining), A Quiet Place deliberately avoids being explicit about the exact nature of its premise and rules — which leaves a lot to interpretation. Instead, the movie artfully establishes facts about the world, its fall, and the monsters causing it through tiny details and hints that you could’ve easily missed. Read more…

Exclusive: There’s a Place For Charlie Hunnam in ‘Pacific Rim 3’

We’ve already covered why Charlie Hunnam — who played hero Raleigh Becket in the first Pacific Rim movie — isn’t returning for sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, with another movie seemingly responsible.

However, while speaking to Steven DeKnight — writer-director of the big-budget follow-up — FANDOM discovered that we might not have seen the last of Raleigh.

DeKnight kicked off the conversation by expressing his sadness that a scheduling conflict with Hunnam’s Papillon movie meant that the British actor couldn’t reprise the role in Part Two.

“I love Charlie Hunnam” he explained. “I sat down and talked with him about what we were planning and he was excited about it. I think it broke his heart not to be able to come back now. But a man’s got to follow his passion.”

However, with DeKnight hoping that the second movie makes enough money to get a third off the ground, it sounds like the character of Raleigh Becket is front and centre in his mind.

Idris Elba (l) with Charlie Hunnam in the first Pacific Rim movie.

“We’ve left it open” he revealed. “I have a great idea for how to fold him back into the next instalment if he’s available and if the schedules work. So I’m really hoping he comes back because I would love to see Charlie Hunnam up onscreen opposite John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny.”

As for where the Becket character is while the events of Pacific Rim Uprising are unfolding, DeKnight wouldn’t spill the beans. “I cannot tell you” he explained with a knowing grin. “That’s part of the reveal of what happened to him. But I think it’s pretty cool.”

The Surprising Place Where You’re Likely to Encounter Germs at the Airport

Traveling is a fun experience, and going to the airport can be pretty exciting nowadays. Basically, your vacation starts from the second you arrive at the airport – it’s like an extension of your vacay. However, there are certain things that you need to consider when you get to the airport. You need to have a travel plan in place, leave plenty of time, and pack efficiently, but you also need to avoid germs!

This might sound like a strange point to add on the end, but you would be surprised by just how many germs there are floating around in the airport. Let’s be honest, flying isn’t exactly fun for germaphobes, what with countless germs floating around inside the cabin. But, there are other areas you need to watch out for as well. Follow this guide, and don’t let germs ruin your vacation:

Why you need to be careful

It’s pretty clear that there are plenty of areas that can affect us in terms of germs and illnesses when we go traveling. The airport is full of different people from all walks of life, and some of them are going to be poorly. But, you have got to make sure you are careful, and that you don’t get ill because otherwise, you’re going to ruin your vacation. You don’t want to spend half your trip bedridden now, do you?

Wear a face mask

A lot of travelers bring face masks with them and will wear them during the flight, and up until they leave the airport. This might seem excessive, but it is also a very useful thing for those visiting cities where pollution levels are high. If you have a weak immune system, you need to make sure you wear a face mask when you travel – it will certainly protect you against germs.

Bring hand sanitizer

If you are bringing luggage with you to check in at the self check-in kiosks, make sure you bring some hand sanitizer with you. Tests have shown that, of all tested areas in the airport, the self-service check-in kiosk is the one containing the most germs! In fact, even bathroom flush buttons were considered to be more hygienic! So, if you are going to check your own luggage in at the airport, make sure you have some hand gel with you to use afterward!

Stop worrying

Bear in mind that this shouldn’t necessarily be cause for concern. Many of the germs and bacteria out there are not harmful to us and are actually necessary for the body and immune system to function properly. But, if you want to play it safe, make sure you carry a bottle of sanitizer with you and even consider wearing gloves for your journey.

Airports are actually somewhat less hygienic than you might have imagined, and this is why you need to take precautions. It’s important to make sure you are looking after your body and immune system as much as possible, and these are some of the things you should know that will help you with this.

When Does ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II’ Take Place?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the campaign of Star Wars: Battlefront II.

Star Wars: Battlefront II introduces players to new character Iden Versio, an Imperial hero. Unlike the games before it, Battlefront II is considered canon, so it is important to examine how the game and Iden’s story fits into the timeline within the Star Wars universe.

The single-player campaign, and thus Iden’s story, begins prior to Star Wars: Episode VI, with our Imperial hero seemingly imprisoned aboard a Rebellion vessel. This is just before the Battle of Endor, when the Empire is luring the Rebellion into a trap. It falls to Iden to destroy information that would tip off the Rebellion.

The Battle of Endor

While Iden’s mission is a success, the Rebellion still comes out of the other side of the trap victorious. Iden and her squad witness the destruction of the Death Star from the surface of Endor, moving quickly to evacuate their allies as the Rebels begin their invasion of the surface. This concludes the events of Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi.

Battle of Jakku

A major point in Star Wars history is the Battle of Jakku. By this time, Iden and several of her loyal soldiers have joined the Rebellion. They provide invaluable information for their raiding parties and strike major blows to the opposition. The Battle of Jakku is the last major battle to take place in the Galactic Civil War, marking the end of the Empire. Iden takes a front row seat in the battle, leading fighters against the Imperial pilots and soldiers. She is present throughout the entirety of the firefight, crash-landing only at its summation.

In the aftermath of the battle, players are treated to a scene of a massive Imperial ship laying in the sands, potentially the same ship that Rey is later seen pillaging at the outset of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Pre-The Force Awakens

Speaking of Episode VII, Iden’s whereabouts are largely unknown in relation to the start of the film. One of her loyal soldiers is captured by Kylo Ren decades after the Battle on Jakku. Prior to the soldier’s defection from the empire, he also worked with character well-known in the Star Wars universe — we won’t spoil it here — to retrieve a compass that would presumably point the way to the first Jedi temple. The location of the temple, of course, is the plot device propelling the narrative for Episode VII.

Setting a trap with the Corvus
Setting a trap with the Corvus

The single-player campaign is fairly weighty, stretching from the events in Star Wars: Episode VI to the Empire’s subsequent defeat leading into Star Wars: Episode VII. We’ll see in just a month whether or not the game’s events also tie into Episode VIII: The Last Jedi as well.

Jets to place Quincy Enunwa on IR with neck injury

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets?wide receiver Quincy Enunwa has a bulging disk in his neck and will have season-ending surgery — a significant setback to the team’s already thin receiving corps. Enunwa, injured in a noncontact drill on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium, faces a six- to nine-month rehab. The Jets don’t consider it career-threatening. "[The doctors] said it wasn’t," coach Todd Bowles said Monday after practice. "Going forward, we’ll see. They said he should come out of it OK." Enunwa, the only receiver on the Jets’ roster with 1,000 career receiving yards (1,172), missed minicamp in June because of a similar injury. The condition was "treatable" at the time, according to Bowles, who said Enunwa was deemed healthy at the start of training camp. "He was doing fine," Bowles said. "When he fell the other night, it flared up." On Saturday night, Enunwa dropped a pass from Christian Hackenberg during 7-on-7 drills when he…

Teyonah Parris Promptly Put An ‘Old Man’ In His Place After He Inappropriately Touched Her Hair

It’s been said so many times, you would think it was common knowledge: Don’t touch a black woman’s hair, or a black man’s hair, or anyone’s hair at that — especially without permission.

Sadly, some people are still grappling with practicing common sense and have to learn some lessons the hard way. That is precisely what happened this week when actress Teyonah Parris was approached by an overzealous stranger who couldn’t keep his hands to himself.

On Monday, the “Mad Men” actress, who usually wears her hair in beautifully elaborate natural styles, was out dining with friends when she said an “old man” approached her and grabbed her hair. Not only did she put the rude man in his place, she also publicly shared the shocking ordeal via her Twitter account.

Here’s a recount of what Parris said happened (our jaws are still on the floor):

Choosing Joy in a Selfish Place

“Remember to stop and listen for the birdsong :)”

On a typically busy day, my phone lit up with this text message from my mom while I was running errands. “Ugh, I don’t have time to listen for birdsongs! I have s**t to do!” I thought as I checked the time. My mother is a particularly optimistic person, and in the moment I didn’t have the patience for her optimism. But then I stopped, frowned–is this the person I have become?

The Harvard environment can feel like it breeds negativity. After spending months in hibernation, we emerge from our caves, blinking at this bright orb in the sky. We complain about the dining hall food, the weather, the lack of gender-neutral bathrooms–all of which warrant improvement, to be certain, but when these criticisms linger in our brains for too long they start festering there, hatching other baby complaints. On a campus filled to the brim with people accustomed to analyzing their way to success, this isn’t all that surprising.

But more than negativity, this environment can breed selfishness. Everyone here is overcommitted in some capacity, and it shows in both our G-Cals and our pace of life. The constant busyness is a way of constantly to one-upping one another, even if these obligations make us miserable. And because we are kept so wrapped up in extracurriculars and exams so as to not have a moment’s silence, we have no time to reflect upon the relationships and ideas that matter. We have no time to let significance percolate, to meander through a farmer’s market or visit a library “just because” (or if we do, we post it on social media, thereby externally validating our deviation from the burnout norm). We have no time for the birdsong.

I have noticed a build-up of negativity and selfishness in myself this past year. When I came back in the fall after a semester abroad, I was eager to prioritize catching up with old friends and new, and it seemed like others felt the same. But quickly that optimism and patience waned and I fell victim to the email blackhole, filling up every spare moment with white noise, rather than letting the silence sink in. I realized that there were few moments during the week when I wasn’t 1) starting at a screen, 2) drinking, 3) working out, or 4) sleeping, and that scared me. I allocated my time drastically differently than I had in South America or even at home, where I felt like my eyes were wider and my ears perked in hopes of keener observation. I suppose it was possible to have taken things more slowly, but everyone else’s velocity pressured me to speed up. My parents always told me I would experience peer pressure, but I never thought it would come in the form of “How much work do you have this weekend?”

This idea of dwelling less on the negative has cropped up in many a conversation lately, and is especially important as we transition into the “real” world. Embracing these last couple of weeks is difficult to do if we are constantly criticizing, quantifying the validity of our experiences by counting the number of “likes” on our Instragram photos, rather than internalizing our own happiness. I don’t want my last memories of college to be “filtered,” so to speak, by others’ perceptions.

But in shedding negativity, I am not talking about not being sad, or ignoring mental illness. Quite the opposite. I feel that a good cry and confiding in others is in fact what many of us need, perhaps more often than we’d like to admit. There are too many of us who try to make our lives appear spotless from the outside, despite inner exhaustion or defeat. No, what I am talking about is seeking joy. I am talking about being more present in a place that shoves the future down our throats at every opportunity. I am talking about prioritizing happiness and wholesomeness as something we need to cultivate, something that requires time and prioritization. Hundreds of free s’mores won’t change anything unless we let ourselves and others be still and do things that don’t contribute to our résumé or our online personae. Sometimes we need the constant buzz to subside.

So go on, have a picnic with your friends and don’t worry about having a profound discussion. Try hearing the city, noticing the patterns in the bricks or the clanging sound when somebody steps on a loose manhole cover. Take out your headphones and listen to the world. Maybe there’ll even be a birdsong.

    Tynie’s Place

When Investigator Cooper Billings carries Sylvia Huston into the emergency room, her blood saturating his hands and his clothes, she becomes his. She’s a midwife, and her birth center is dedicated to the poorest of women and babies. When it comes under threat by gangs vying for control of the drug trade, Sylvia risks her life to defend it. Cooper can’t save her until she learns to trust in his love. Only then will he have her safe in his arms. About the Author: Rebecca SkovgaardRebecca Skovgaard is a midwife in Rochester, New York. ‘Mad Men’ Review: Everyone’s Out Of Place In ‘The Runaways’

Don’t read on unless you have seen “The Runaways,” the fifth episode of “Mad Men’s” final season.

“This is the best place to be right now.” — Megan

Wrong. Almost everyone in “The Runaways” was out of place or out of their element, and quite conscious of that fact. And I’ll say more about that in a minute, but first, well, wow. You can’t make the claim that “Mad Men” denies the viewer a full range of experiences.

First, we had the AMC After Dark scene of Don having a three-way with Megan and her friend Amy. And then we had something completely different: Michael Ginsberg proudly presenting his sliced-off nipple to Peggy. Excuse me for a minute while I go drink the entire contents of my liquor cabinet.

Yeeeeow. I feel scarred from having written the above sentence about Ginsberg’s body part; seeing what was in that box was worse. There’s a mental image I’ll never be able to remove from my brain — Scout’s honor.

As wildly different as those two moments were, this is “Mad Men,” so the moments shared a thematic link, as did much of what occurred elsewhere in “The Runaways.” As I noted above, almost every character stood on unfamiliar terrain or felt deeply alienated from what was going on around them.

Even though Don may have succumbed to the charms of Megan and her friend, there was reluctance in everything he did when he was out in California. He felt left out at her party, he tried to ignore her dancing with another man and he sensed that there was something odd about Stephanie’s quick exit from Megan’s pad. Don was so uncomfortable that Harry Crane, of all people, turned out to be a sight for sore eyes. Don couldn’t wait to get away from all those pot-smokin’ hippies and go drink manly alcohol in a dimly lit bar. There’s only so much extramarital flirtation and banjo a man can be expected to endure.

Ginsberg’s unease, at least in his own mind, had an explanation: It was all the computer’s fault. He was so rattled by that humming monolith that he actually went to Peggy’s house, a weird place for him to end up on a Saturday night. There, Ginsberg found one of the episode’s many odd pairings: Peggy and little Julio from upstairs. In an episode full of characters experiencing discomfort and disconnected states, it’s wildly ironic and very sad that Ginsberg actually found relief from his distress. Unfortunately, his “relief” was a symptom of profound mental illness.

On the other coast, Betty had a party that was about as different from Megan’s bash as it could be. Another irony: Despite her stable and moneyed environment, Bettty was every bit as disconnected from her husband as Megan was. There were a lot of people who couldn’t be trusted in this hour: Henry couldn’t trust Betty to keep her mouth shut about her political opinions and discuss only safe, non-controversial topics. Megan (speaking for herself, rather than Don) didn’t trust Stephanie to deal with her situation in the ideal way — whatever that meant — so she sent her packing. The subtext was, of course, that Megan felt threatened by Stephanie’s easy emotional intimacy with Don, something that Megan always had to fight for (and despite her efforts, her bond with Don was clearly slipping away).

Betty, not surprisingly, didn’t trust Sally to take care of herself and her precious nose (and if I were Henry, I wouldn’t trust Betty around any of those kids, given that Betty’s only response to any setback is petulant rage. Gene and Bobby, start packing for boarding school now).

It was bittersweet to see Bobby finally have someone to talk to (though even he felt out of place in Sally’s little-used bedroom). Sally was yet another character who was away from her usual spot. She was not at her school, but stuck in Betty’s orbit, the absolute last place Sally wanted to be. Despite the episode’s title, Sally didn’t run away — Henry took Sally to the doctor in the morning — but almost everyone in this hour was in flight from someone or to a new place.

Even Harry wasn’t where he was suppose to be — he ended up in Megan’s house, with a woman who was most certainly not his wife. Spotting Don, Harry gladly fled that uncomfortable situation.

Ah, finally we come to the one person who was in his element in this hour. That’s not to say that Don was comfortable in much of this hour: For one thing, he was very annoyed that he didn’t get to swoop and take care of the pregnant Stephanie. That situation tailor-made for Don: She was a beautiful, exotic, intelligent woman who was dependent on Don for her day-to-day existence. But Don wasn’t allowed to save the day, because a put-out Megan basically sent Stephanie packing.

But all the L.A. annoyance was just the prelude to Don’s discovery about the cigarette account. Toward the end of the episode we got, of all things, a vintage Don Draper pitch, just when I’d stopped expecting those to happen anymore. Classic Draper: He took a situation in which he was not wanted and which was, in fact, part of a scheme to get rid of him — and he turned the tables on his enemies and ended up making himself essential to the client. Just look at the smug look he wore as he hailed a taxi at the curb. Draper is back, baby.

It really was Don’s ideal kind of situation: He loves being the underdog, the guy who, to all intents and appearances, has no cards left to play. The joke’s on you, Cutler and Lou: Don may not be able to connect in person with Stephanie or connect emotionally with his wife, but put his back against the wall in a business situation and there’s a good chance he’ll do something nobody will soon forget. This time, he made an impression in a good way — this was not the Don of the legendarily disastrous Hershey’s pitch. This was a guy who’s played office politics for a long time and could, if he wanted to, run circles around a vindictive mediocrity like Lou Avery.

This time, Don wanted to do just that, and he nailed it. (That said, this is not the Don of Season 1. That little scene just before Don entered the breakfast meeting with the cigarette guys was sheer perfection. Doubt washed over his face, and Don quickly mastered it, but we knew he was much more nervous than he let on.)

Without an elegant segue, I’d like to turn to the problem of Megan. I don’t quite get why she appeared to be fighting so hard for her marriage. Last time we saw her, she appeared to be on the road to accepting that her relationship with Don was winding down. Los Angeles appears to be the place for her — she certainly felt more at home at her Laurel Canyon party than she ever did as host of Don’s “Zou Bisou Bisou” blowout. She’s got her own circle of friends and her own life. Don’s made it clear that New York is his home. It didn’t make sense to me to see her go to such lengths to keep her relationship with Don going.

The problem of Megan pre-dates this season, of course. Megan is largely a blank slate — she’s defined by her relationship with Don, and I don’t have a great sense of who she is or what she wants outside of that. I can imagine the internal emotional and intellectual life of Peggy, Pete, Joan, Roger or Don, for example, but that’s just not the case with Megan.

This season especially, the show appears to be changing who she is week by week, according to the needs of the story rather than the (admittedly indistinct) personality of the character. For a few seasons, she seemed like a sensible and smart young woman, but out of nowhere, she became a semi-crazed director-stalker out in L.A. She was righteously furious at Don’s deception about his job suspension and his refusal to join her on the West Coast, but this week she’s got rid of Stephanie, tried to make Don jealous with another guy and had a three-way in a desperate attempt to keep him interested.

All these things don’t strike me as different facets of her character: They seem to me like evidence of the fact that the writers don’t have a great grasp of who she is or what makes her tick. It also says to me that the writers have story needs they need her to fulfill and who she is changes from week to week based on the plotting needs of the moment.

Regardless of the inconsistent writing for Megan, it’s clear that Don and Megan’s marriage is extremely shaky. As I’ve said before, Don’s first and only real love is his work, and it’s clear that that interests him once again, and he’s merely going through the motions with Megan. Now that he scents a huge account and sees a possible new role for himself at the firm, he can barely sustain a morning-after conversation with Megan, let alone her pal Amy.

Also on shaky ground: The relationship between Betty and Henry. The only real reason I think Betty wouldn’t consent to a divorce is because she’s already been divorced once and she couldn’t handle the social ostracism that would come from being twice divorced. That said, she herself put her finger on the problem that I’ve complained about forever when it comes to Betty: She’s too passive, too reactive. If she’s is so fond of thinking for herself, she should do something with those opinions and that knowledge. Giving Gene baths, turning Bobby into an anxious wreck and threatening her daughter with physical harm don’t appear to add up to a full-time job, and she certainly appears to want more in her life than she currently has.

Don wanted an attractive, capable accessory when he went after Megan — what he got was a woman with her own wants and interests, and thus he eventually lost interest. Not unlike Don, Henry wanted a woman he could save — a pretty blonde doll who would look good on his arm and who wouldn’t have ideas of her own. Henry also didn’t get what he wanted, but he also knows that divorcing Betty would likely end his political career. Somehow those two, I think, will find separate orbits for themselves and remain together on paper and emotionally very far apart.

For his part, Don couldn’t wait to leave Los Angeles — which he knows is not the place for him — and get back to the one place that has always made sense to him: the office. Amongst all these disconnected, lost people who failed to make real connections in this purposely disjointed hour, Don stood out. As he stood on that curb, he knew exactly where he belonged.

    “You’re incredible.” “Thank you.”

Oh, Don Draper. You may have your faults but I can’t wait to see you stick a (metaphorical) knife in Lou Avery’s back. Or his front. Whichever you prefer.

    Hail of bullets:

    • It’s so weird to see Caity Lotz on “Mad Men” after two seasons of seeing her as Sara/The Canary on “Arrow.” I kept expecting her to ninja-fight somebody.
    • Scout = Don Draper. Both can take anything but an order!
    • A fairly standard sub-theme in the episode: The clash between the Establishment and Those Irreverent Young People (i.e. the “flag-burning snots”). Lou couldn’t stand the fact that his employees thought his comic was corny and outdated (he really lost them when he compared his work to that of Dylan. You may have miscalculated a bit there, Lou). But his disgust was reflected in Betty’s condescending remarks about the Young People Today and their lack of respect for authority, etc.
    • Now that Anna’s gone, Stephanie’s the only person left in Don’s life who has the right to call him Dick. I think that means a lot to him, for complex reasons. By the way, I don’t mean to imply that Don only cares about Stephanie because she ignites his savior complex. I also think he sincerely likes having “family” in the sense that other people do. There’s not much about Don/Dick that feels normal, and having a “niece” allows him to feel more like other normal family folk, I suspect.
    • This week in Lou is the worst: Keeping Don late and then not looking at his work until Monday anyway.
    • I think Amy was into having a three-way because she’s actually in love with Megan. Just a theory.
    • Just to go micro for a second, I loved one subtle moment in the bar between Don and Harry. A semi-drunk, nervous Harry started sharing work gossip with Don, but Harry closed up again when Don didn’t treat him like a friend. Don instantly sensed what Harry needed and clapped him on the back, acted friendlier and ordered more drinks. He went from Batman to work pal in the blink of an eye. What Harry didn’t realize was that it was all an act. Don just had to know what Harry knew about the new account Jim Cutler and Lou Avery were going after. In any case, in that moment, he read Harry perfectly. When Don’s on his A-game, there are few who can touch him.
    • I really thought Lou was going to fire Stan when Stan said, “You?” That whole scene in Lou’s office was a classic moment of “Mad Men” comedy in an episode that really needed it. Because none of us can unsee what was in Ginsberg’s box.
    • Speaking of Ginsberg, I know I’m not the only one who detected signs of psychosis or schizophrenia not long after he made his first appearance on the show. I always had a feeling he was going to lose it some day, but that didn’t make the pathos of his breakdown any easier to bear. I don’t know if Ben Feldman will be back, but if not, here’s to a really wonderful performance as Ginsberg. The character could be quite dryly funny at times, but there was always a deeply rooted humanity about him — an intensity and a wellspring of compassion that lurked just below the surface. Part of the reason the breakdown was so sad was because Ginsberg was always just a little to sensitive. He always felt things too much. That fed his creativity, but it also fed his madness, which overtook him in the end. Poor guy.
    • Speaking of great performances, Elisabeth Moss did a wonderful job showing Peggy’s range of reactions to Ginsberg’s descending madness. I laughed out loud at the way she said “Time to go” in her apartment, and her horrified reaction to Ginsberg’s gift was quite memorable as well. But what sticks with me most is the mixture of fear, revulsion, shock and sadness that washed over her face as she edged out of the room and away from Ginsberg. She truly liked the guy, and in that moment she knew that his life as he knew it was over.
    • Nice of Stan to go to the hospital with Ginsberg. Stan’s always up for a joke and a toke, but he’s also a really good friend.

Ryan McGee and I talked about “Mad Men” (as well as “Penny Dreadful” and other shows) in last week’s Talking TV podcast, which is here, on iTunes and below.
