Huckberry’s big Summer Sale, Italian Made Boots, a Moonphase Watch, & More – The Thurs. Men’s Sales Handful

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend or a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

Huckberry: Big ol’ Summer Sale

Huckberry

It’s mid season clearance time people. Now that we’re all sweating balls, what better time to buy some boots, eh? It actually is a good time, considering the prices. They want to get this stuff out of their warehouse to make room for the new fall stuff on the way. So this old stuff from last fall has gotta go. Still can’t believe those Astorflex boots are kickin’ about at ninety bucks. Also. Levi moon sale? Awwww yeeeeeeeah. Big thanks to Brandon D. for the tip!

Brooks Brothers: Summer Online Sale + Clearance

Brooks Brothers

This is a weird one because they’re advertising a summer clearance AND a summer sale… yet most prices don’t look like they’ve moved much if at all? Beats me. I thought the Allen Edmonds for Brooks Brothers shoes were long gone. But it doesn’t appear that way. Some people insist that these aren’t AEs, but… the Park Avenue style (the plain oxford cap toes) are still labeled as AEs. And if they aren’t from Allen Edmonds… who’s making them? Made in the USA and Goodyear welted. Boots are obviously Red Wings.

Spier & Mackay: New Items Added to Sale + 2 for $ 40 Polos (reg. $ 30 each)

Spier & Mackay

Sizes are scattered (it’s Spier & Mackay after all) but there are still some solid deals to be found in their sale section right now. And it’s not just suits and sportcoats. Trousers, sweaters, ties… etc. But if you are going for something more dressed up/tailored, head here for a review of their slim fit suits, and head here for a review of their more generous contemporary fit. Meanwhile, for those who are a fan of their polos, they’re doing a two for $ 40 deal through 7/15. That’s a savings of $ 10 each when you buy two or more.

Massdrop: Allen Edmonds Chukkas Still Available – $ 249.99 FINAL

Massdrop X Allen Edmonds

Looks like the chocolate brown is sold out, but the other colors are still fair game. I’m wondering if the timetable is just too long this time. It’s the middle of summer, and you’re asking guys to lay down a quarter of a grand on shoes they won’t see until the very end of October (the estimated ship date). That’s a lonnnnnnnnnnng time. AND you can’t return them if they don’t work out? That’s a big ask.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Early Access Starts NOW

Nordstrom

And we’re off. If you’re a cardmember. For the rest of us, we’ll have to wait until Friday July 20th. And yes, we’ll have a full run down of picks then when the doors are thrown open to the general public.

BONUS  Massdrop: Glycine Moonphase – $ 399 FINAL

Dappered.com

Oddly easy to dress up or down for a moonphase. Swiss made automatic with a true moonphase cutout (it’s not some AM/PM indicator). Final sale of course, being that once again this is Massdrop.

Also worth a mention:

  • Club Monaco: Extra 30% off sale styles. No code needed.
  • J. Crew: Extra 30% off sale styles w/ SHOPNOW
  • GAP: Up to 50% off everything, + an extra 20% off everything w/ MORE

Enterprise-level: The Importance of Aligning Sales with Marketing

It’s no secret that marketing and sales share a close relationship with one another—and like many relatives, that relationship sometimes falls on the love-hate side of the spectrum. Marketers who are eager to tie their efforts to revenue often complain that sales teams don’t react quickly enough to close their leads. Sales reps say the leads they receive are deader than a doornail. Teams can’t agree on what qualifies a lead, which may set competing goals.

Still, when marketing and sales do manage to come together, the results can be astounding. Strongly aligned sales and marketing teams are tied to better performance outcomes and increased revenue, along with more satisfied customers and a better experience overall. Here’s the why and how of sales and marketing alignment—and what it can do for your construction business.

achievement-agreement-arms-1068523

Close More Sales and Grow Revenue

The numbers don’t lie. Well-aligned sales and marketing teams are associated with higher profits, increased revenue and more growth all around. In one survey, 89% of businesses that aligned sales and marketing objectives saw an increase in lead conversion. That translated to a 76% higher contribution to revenue from marketing and an average 32% annual revenue growth overall.

Part of the reason for this improvement is the increased efficiency achievable when sales and marketing teams interact closely with one another. Sales representatives are able to connect to leads quickly and effectively and to offer their feedback based on real-life customer interactions, which better tailors marketing content and refines campaigns. Open communication between both departments leads to a better understanding of which customers are more likely to convert and what kind of content will draw them.

Closely-Aligned Sales and Marketing Improves The Customer Experience

When sales and marketing function as a well-oiled machine, customers feel the difference. Tightly-aligned sales and marketing teams result in 36% higher customer retention rates and 38% higher sales win rates, according to Marketing Profs. A study of B2B businesses showed that those with strongly aligned marketing and sales teams were 53% more likely to create relevant buyer propositions for clients. In other words, when sales and marketing work together, both teams are able to see the full picture of their business’s sales funnel and to more accurately gauge customer needs within that process.

To understand why that is, you have to come to grips with the desperate state of sales enablement today. Sixty-five percent of sales reps say they can’t find the content they need to convert prospects. Meanwhile, 57% of customers report that sales reps seem ill-prepared during their initial meeting. It’s easy to see the relationship between these two stats—in order for sales reps to close, they need access to effective content that is relevant to customers real-life challenges. Only by working together can sales enablement happen.

Selling to the Digital Consumer Requires More Cross-Functional Sales and Marketing

Marketing and sales have always had a close relationship with one another, but the birth of the digital consumer is changing marketing roles and rewriting the entire sales process. Modern buyers have tools to self-educate. Through online research and reviews, consumers now fulfill many top-of-the-funnel marketing functions by themselves. A recent report from the Ecommerce Foundation found that 88% of buyers research products and services online before they buy.

Additionally, sophisticated marketing tools and CRMs have allowed marketers and sales teams to track consumer behavior and engage middle- and bottom-of-the-funnel leads with a more customized approach. As a result of these technological changes, both functions have grown murkier, meaning that marketing and sales teams must now work very closely to streamline communication and make sure they’re not stepping on each other’s toes.

Adding to the issue is the increasing fragmentation of marketing channels. Consumers may use several different devices throughout their day—a laptop, a smartphone, and a tablet, as well as other smart products such as a Fitbit, Amazon Echo, or Google Home Hub. These new portals open up additional opportunities for hyper-personalized marketing, but they can also make it more difficult to track where a lead stands in the sales funnel. This further underlines the need for effective interdepartmental communication, where teams are dynamic and cross-functional.

Beyond the techniques mentioned earlier, strongly aligned sales and marketing starts with agreeing on a few key markers. Teams need to come to an agreement on what defines a lead, along with each of the stages in the sales pipeline. Both departments should set mutual goals and meet regularly to measure progress and make adjustments. It’s not exactly a complete department overhaul, but who knows? It could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

How to Score Even Bigger Savings When You Shop Amazon Prime Day Sales

Amazon has confirmed the rumors and announced its fourth annual Prime Day celebration will happen on July 16 and July 17. The site promises more than 1 million deals over a 36-hour period — its longest yet — for Prime customers in 17 countries.

This year, along with discounts on its popular home electronics like Echo, expect Amazon to promote its house brands. AmazonBasics luggage is already on the sale’s lineup, as is furniture from Amazon’s Rivet line.

Much of Amazon’s food, vitamin, baby and beauty lines are already 30% off for Prime members in advance of the event.

Amazon will launch products that are new to Prime for a limited time, with some big names like Coleman, Britax and Tarte cosmetics coming to the site with exclusive offers.

Deals will start at noon on the West Coast and 3 p.m. on the East Coast on Monday, July 16, and extend through the end of the day (Pacific Standard Time) on July 17.

What to Expect From 2018 Amazon Prime Day Deals

This year, Amazon will offer the following to Prime members:

  • Use your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature card at Whole Foods and Whole Foods Market 365 stores on Prime Day to get 10% back on your purchases up to $ 400. This offer is valid from July 14 to July 17. That’s double what you can normally get back on Whole Foods purchases with the Amazon Prime credit card.
  • Whole Foods shoppers will also find in-store deals on Prime Day.
  • Install Amazon Assistant to get $ 5 off a Prime Day order of $ 25 or more. After installing the browser extension, shop by clicking through the browser icon. You can do this now to get your credit, but you must redeem it on physical products before July 23. Your discount will show at checkout.
  • Search for items with camera features in the Amazon app to get deals on select items. This one is tricky: You have to try the AR view, camera search, bar code scanner or package X-ray features within the app during Prime Day to unlock deals — and those deals will change every six hours.
  • First-time customers can get up to $ 20 off Prime Now delivery. Use code 20PRIMEDAY to get $ 10 off your first two orders of Amazon or Whole Foods products. The offer expires at the end of the day on July 17, and your discount expires on July 31. You must spend at least $ 10.01 to redeem your discount, and delivery fees (based on order size) still apply.
  • New Amazon Music Unlimited users can get four months of on-demand music for 99 cents.
  • New Kindle Unlimited subscribers can access three months of the service for 99 cents. Buy a Kindle book before Prime Day to get a $ 10 credit to use during the event on ebooks, print books or Audible titles.

How to Keep Calm While You Get Your Prime Day on

Not an Amazon Prime member? Sign up for a free 30-day trial membership now to get access to all the Amazon Prime Day deals. Just remember to mark your calendar to cancel your membership after the big event if you don’t want to pay $ 119 per year for the two-day shipping service.

It’s important to go into Prime Day without grand plans for spending (and saving). While Amazon is going to discount a ton of prices, it doesn’t mean you need those items right now. You should still do your research and comparison shopping before the big day.

Amazon is offering one perk to help you plan ahead: Starting a week prior to Prime Day, you can add items to your list in the Amazon app to get a sneak peek at their sale prices. Do this to plan purchases ahead of time and resist additional impulse buys on Prime Day.

4th of July Sales For Men – J. Crew Factory free shipping & double dipping, 20% off Goodfellow & Co., & More

IT’S NOT JUST A HANDFUL. IT’S A HOEDOWN.

hoedownin

Why hoedown? Too much for a handful. Enjoy the long weekend fellas… that is, if you’re lucky enough to get some time off.

J.C.F.: 50% off Most Everything + Extra 20% off & Free Ship w/ SUPERSTAR

J. Crew Factory

What was an extra 15% off to start the week has now jumped to an additional 20% off AND you get free shipping too. Suits & Sportcoats aren’t getting the cut, but it seems like the rest of J. Crew Factory’s basics are in fact getting this half off PLUS an additional 20% off that sale price. UPDATE: Sorry fellas, looks like the shorts aren’t getting the extra 20% off cut. But they are shipping for free.

Spier and Mackay: 15% off all regular priced suits/sportcoats/trousers w/ JULY4th

One of the best values in suits and sportcoats just got even better. Yes, sizes are scattered since it’s Spier, but it’s worth a look if you’re in the market for a new suit or sportcoat. Suits with the code now start at $ 279, and sportcoats now start at $ 169. Not bad for half canvas and bemberg linings. Runs clear through Sunday July 8th. Head here for a review of their slim fit, and here for a review of the contemporary fit.

Massdrop (or Amazon) Orient Mako II – $ 129.99

Orient Mako II

Massdrop has the Hacking and Hand Winding Orient Mako II diver for $ 129.99 right now… but so does Amazon. And with Amazon, it ships immediately (no waiting for the pre-order) AND it’s not final sale. Sold direct by Amazon at post time too. So… yeah. You’ll want to go with Amazon over Massdrop this time for sure.

GAP: 40% off Everything w/ GO4th + Extra 10% off & Free Ship w/ MOREFUN

GAP

Appears to be exclusion free? I believe? Just a reminder about the math. There are two codes here, but 40% off and then an additional 10% off does NOT equal 50% off. That extra 10% comes off the marked down price. So, if your purchase is $ 100, that’s 100 x .6 = $ 60, and then $ 60 x .9 = $ 54. Close to 50% off, but not quite.

J. Crew: 30% off Select Styles w/ ALLSTARExtra 20% off Select w/ THESKIMM

J. Crew

In case you missed it Sunday. There’s also a twenty dollar off $ 100 code JCSM18 floating about, but you can only use two codes at a time. They should stack though, depending on exclusions. More info over here.

Massdrop: Junghans Max Bill Auto. Watch – $ 729.99 FINAL

Junghans Max Bill Auto. Watch

That’s a lot of cash to drop on a wrist watch. But? Seems like some of you fellas are down with that (as far as threads and the social media channels indicate). Made in Germany. Automatic movement that hacks and hand winds. Timeless Bauhaus looks. 38 mm in diameter and 40mm from lug to lug. Convex hard plexiglass crystal with SICRALAN coating. Final sale though, being that it’s Massdrop.

Target: 20% off Clothes w/ JULY4

Target

Just a warning. Goodfellow & Co seems to fit a little wonky for some guys. There can be quite a gap between sizes. So, lucky you if it fits great off the rack. Code expires at the end of the day on Wednesday.

Todd Snyder: Further additions/reductions to Sale & Clearance

Todd Snyder

Just a warning… sizes are scattered at best. And in the clearance section there’s a few final sale items. So be careful with those. No returns for the final sale stuff.

Todd Snyder Part Deux: New Timex Marlin Blackout – $ 199

Timex Marlin Blackout

Not on sale and almost certainly gonna sell out. Still tiny. Still hand wound. Head here for a review of the silver version. Big thanks to Aaron K for the tip!

Brooks Bros: Up to 40% off Select Spring & Summer Styles

Brooks Brothers

Great for those of us who love Brooks Brothers… yet don’t usually operate on a Brooks Brothers budget. Personally, I’m a big fan of their Regent fit sportcoats. Especially when on double sale like this.

Huckberry: Astorflex Chelsea Boots in Sabbia (neutral) or Cuoio – $ 90 ($ 180)

Astorflex Chelsea

Still half off. Still made in Italy, still super comfortable, still shipping and returning for free. And still quite a few sizes left.

Allen Edmonds: 40% off Select Bourbon & Merlot

Allen Edmonds

Still going on. Still a hell of a deal. Huge fan of the Allen Edmonds Merlot shade around these parts (see a full How to Wear it for their Merlot McAllisters here). Also know that the Bourbon shade can be a bit divisive. Some people LOVE it. Some think it can look a little striped and/or greenish in some lights. Anyway, $ 249 is a hell of a price for timeless Allen Edmonds first quality shoes. Deal runs clear through July 22nd.

UNIQLO: Select 4th of July Deals & Free Shipping No Min!

UNIQLO

Feels like it’s a more extensive promotions section for the 4th of July weekend. And? Lots of their warm weather stuff is on sale. Like airism t-shirts and boxer briefs. They’re an inexpensive choice for many.

Cole Haan: Extra 40% off Sale Items w/ EXTRA40

Cole Haan

Lots of snobs like to rag on Cole Haan, but many guys have had some measure of success with the brand. Is full price too steep? Of course. But this stuff is already on sale AND its getting an extra 40% off. So, not bad. Careful though… lots of final sale here. No returns or exchanges on that stuff. So click wisely.

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is Coming

Nordstrom

Another reminder before you get sloshed on cheap beer and go hog wild with your credit card this weekend. Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale is easily one of, if not the most anticipated sale of the year. Head here for what it looked like last year. If you’re a Nordstrom card-member, you get early access from July 12th – 19th. The sale goes live to the general public on the 20th. And yes, we’ll have our favorites from the sale ready to go for you to peruse.

Holiday Open Thread (And Fourth of July Sales of Note!)

Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Happy Fourth of July! We’re taking the day off, but as a mini holiday open thread I thought we’d recommend this gorgeous wrap dress from Cooper St. that clearly has a Fourth of July feel. I think it’s versatile enough to wear beyond the holiday, though, and I love the colors and the mixed stripes. You could even put a t-shirt on top and wear it to work as a skirt (depending on your office, that is). It comes in straight sizes 2–16 ($ 180) and plus sizes 14W–24W ($ 200), although the brand notes that “Sizes 2–6 run small; sizes 8–16 run large. (Hmm. Thanks for clearing that up.) (Note that Nordstrom has a TON of new markdowns that are pretty great in general — we’re doing a fuller roundup of 4th of July sales, after the jump…) Milan Stripe Wrap Dress

A few more affordable dresses in fun stripes are from Halogen, ECI, and Leith.

World Cup Merchandise Sales a Battleground for Nike and Adidas

BRANDS’ GIVE AND GO: While national soccer teams are battling for advancement in this year’s World Cup, Adidas and Nike are dueling for fans’ spending dollars.
Adidas AG is one of seven partners for the 2018 tournament, as evidenced by the Adidas logo that can be found on every game ball and other equipment. The company also sponsors Mexico, Russia, Colombia, Argentina, Germany and other countries. Nike Inc. has its own arsenal of teams — Brazil, Portugal, Nigeria, England and France among them. As of Monday, Nike had a higher sell–out rate, having depleted 28 percent of its World Cup merchandise within the first seven days, according to Thomson Reuters research. Adidas, meanwhile, had sold 6 percent of its FIFA-geared goods during that same time.
Analyzed in conjunction with StyleSage Co., the “Adidas vs. Nike — Who Will Score More World Cup Goals” report makes the distinction that little World Cup merchandise has been discounted. Nike has a higher average price point for its shirts and jerseys at $ 75.09 compared to Adidas $ 56.32. Markdowns aren’t necessarily needed given the World Cup’s popularity and to-the-end-of-the-earth kind of fans.
In terms of most valuable sports events brands, the FIFA World Cup ranks fourth with $ 229

Monday Sales Tripod – Allen Edmonds 1st Quality for $249, J. Crew Factory Mega Clearance, & More

The Thursday Handfuls are great, but what if Monday (or Tuesday) rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? You’ll find three of the best, with a few picks from each, to start the week below.

#1. Allen Edmonds: $ 176 off Select Bourbon & Merlot

Huge fan of the Allen Edmonds Merlot shade around these parts (see a full How to Wear it for their Merlot McAllisters here.) Also know that the Bourbon shade can be a bit divisive. Some people LOVE it. Some think it can look a little striped looking and/or greenish in some lights. Anyway, $ 249 is a hell of a price for timeless Allen Edmonds first quality shoes. Deal runs clear through July 22nd.

#2. J.C.F.: 60% off Select + Extra 50% off Clearance w/ TOOCOOL

Got that? Two different offers here. The flex-chino blazer steal alert from Sunday is part of the clearance deal. But don’t forget the 60% off stuff too. Lots to look at here.

#3. Ledbury: 30% – 50% off Select Items Summer Sale

Is it still spendy? Yes. But it’s Ledbury. Really, really nice fabrics. Terrific construction. Great collars on their shirts. And speaking of their shirts, all of their shirts come with that slightly lowered 2nd button. Perfect for going sans-tie, and if any time is sans-tie-time, it’s summertime.

BONUS  Massdrop: Last Day for Spier & Mackay Suits – $ 299 FINAL

These are NOT their basic Aussie wools (which are great in their own right.) These are Italian milled, Super 120s wool fabrics. Still lined with Bemberg. Still half-canvas. Still offered in either slim or contemporary fits. Available in either navy, medium gray, or charcoal. Drop ends today though.

Online Shoppers Will Soon Have to Pay Sales Taxes — Here’s Why

Online shoppers across the country could be seeing higher prices at their favorite internet retailers in the next few months, thanks to the Supreme Court.

In a 5-4 decision, Supreme Court justices said online retailers would be required to pay state and local sales taxes.

Before now, retailers that sold their goods on the internet and shipped them nationwide didn’t have to charge you a sales tax unless they had a storefront in the state where the purchase was made. Now, big retailers that make more than $ 100,000 in annual sales, or make at least 200 transactions in a state, will be required to pay a sales tax.

That means while the price of the new TV or bike or laptop you were eyeing online might not change, you could end up paying the same price you would in stores once the sales tax is added.

In most cases, the sales taxes only add up to a few extra dollars for you, but for state and local governments, that can mean millions in extra tax revenue — and nationally, it’s billions of dollars.

When Can You Expect to Start Paying More?

The change won’t come overnight, but it won’t take much longer than that. According to The New York Times, some states think they will be ready to start collecting the sales taxes within the next 30 to 90 days.

The states where it will happen quickly are those that already have laws governing how the taxes will be collected on the books. Other states will first have to pass laws, and some may face additional court battles before companies start to charge you sales taxes.

In the end, the amount of time it takes before you start to see the online price hikes will depend on where you live. But whether it comes sooner or later, it’s coming eventually. So get ready.

With S9 sales limping, Samsung won’t hit its 2018 smartphone sales goal

Samsung

Across the board, smartphone manufacturers are still struggling to adjust to an environment where smartphone owners simply aren’t upgrading to new devices as frequently as they once did. While this can partially be attributed to the demise of generous subsidies from carriers, the reality is that smartphone performance in recent years has improved to such an extent that the impetus to upgrade to a new device has diminished drastically.

With respect to the current smartphone release cycle, Apple managed to buck the trend of declining sales with the release of the iPhone X, a device that introduced a brand new form factor. Samsung, though, hasn’t been as lucky. Despite the release of the Galaxy S9 — which itself is an impressive and compelling device — sales of Samsung’s flagship seem to be a tad lower than what the company experienced with last year’s Galaxy S8. More broadly, smartphone sales across the entirety of Samsung’s product line seem to be down this year.

Allen Edmonds Shoebank Tent Sale, BOGO Shorts, & More – The Thurs.

Allen Edmonds Shoebank: Major Tent Sale Reductions

Dappered.com

  • Carlyle Oxford – $ 170
  • Cornwallis Oxford – $ 199
  • Fifth Avenue – $ 170
  • Higgins Mill – $ 199
  • Liverpool Chelseas – $ 199
  • Mackenzie Medallion Toe Wholecut – $ 199
  • Maclennan Wholecut – $ 199
  • McAllister Wingtip Oxford – $ 199
  • Nomad Chukkas – $ 199
  • Cordovan Park Avenue Oxfords – $ 399
  • St. John’s Double Monk – $ 199

Good grief this one is a monster. It’s old school too. The e-commerce site for their factory 2nds on AllenEdmonds.com is NOT reflecting this tent sale. You have to go to the old shoebank site, and order over the phone. No links above because sizes and colors are scattered depending on the model, but I tested some common sizes and widths and that’s what I got for some common styles. $ 170 for Carlyles AND Fifth Avenues is very impressive. But remember, these are 2nds quality. And they’re still gonna nail you with a $ 25 restocking fee if you send them back.

Banana Republic: Additional 50% off Sale Items

Banana Republic

And I do believe it’s fair to say that the sale section is stacked. At least for now, at post time. Those suede wingtips are back to a dirt cheap price (full review here), and that lightweight Italian merino crew could be perfect to dig out post sundown to wear with shorts.

 J. Crew Factory: Buy one get one free shorts w/ FREESHORTS

J. Crew Factory Shorts

If you spent the colder months not skipping legs day at the gym, then it might be time to stock up on some new shorts (or, if all of your shorts are old ratty cargos, it’s also time to stock up on new shorts). Lots of styles and inseam lengths to pick from, but 9″ should work for most guys. But hop to it. Code expires today, 6/21. Happy solstice and what not.

Lands’ End: 40% off full-price suits w/ SUIT & 1489

Lands' End

Seems like LE has been getting a bit tight-fisted with their codes as of late. Yes, there was a 50% off one item deal running yesterday, but 40% off seems to be not too bad. Full disclosure: I haven’t ever tried their new-ish year-rounder suit separates. But for under $ 200 (for Australian merino wool), in a bunch of different fits? Might be worth a real shot. Couple of seasonal options as well. And as is standard with LE, you can get the pants hemmed before they ship. Sizes for the jackets and pants can be a bit scattered depending on the fabric, fit, and color that you’re gunning for.

Massdrop: Woodlore Cedar Shoe Valet Starter Kit II – $ 54.99 FINAL ($ 79.95)

Massdrop: Woodlore Cedar Shoe Valet Starter Kit II

That’s a lot of shoe-care goodness for under $ 55. Yes, it’s final sale, but it’s not like this thing isn’t gonna “fit.” Great for the guy just getting into style, or, the guy who’s into style but doesn’t have a good place to store his shoe care stuff quite yet. You get the cedar shoe valet/stand, plus: Black carnauba shoe wax, Burgundy carnauba shoe wax, Brown carnauba shoe wax, Neutral carnauba shoe wax, 4 cloth applicators, 2 polish daubers, and 2 small horsehair shine brushes.

BONUS  Brooks Brothers: Semi Annual Sale Expires SUNDAY

Brooks Brothers

Last call guys. The thing about the Semi Annual sale as opposed to other Brooks Brothers sales, is that this one includes their most popular styles. Where as a shirt deal or a suit deal might exclude the basics like white and light blue dress shirts, or navy or gray suits, that’s not the case here. Is the stuff still kinda expensive? Yes. But those suits are made in the USA from Italian Fabric. They’ve got a lot going for them. Good for the crowd who’s in a suit and tie during the work week. Full picks from the sale can be found here.

BONUS II  J. Crew: 30% off Select w/ SHOPSUMMER

J. Crew

AGAIN? I mean, thank you J. Crew. But I was convinced that these things weren’t gonna go on sale for the longest of time. Now it seems like they’re usually kicking about around 20% – 30% off. No, you don’t need to buy the entire suit to get the savings. Just want a sportcoat? Totally fine. Looking for a pair of slim lightweight pants for summer, but don’t need the jacket? You can do that too. Head here for a full review of these suits. Note that their new stand-alone unconstructed white cotton-linen sportcoat is also getting this cut.

Spier Suits for $275, Free Shirt Deal at TheTieBar, & More – The Thurs.

Spier & Mackay: Save $ 107 when you buy 2 Suits

Spier & Mackay

Suits that are regularly $ 328 – $ 398 per, now drop to $ 275 – $ 344.50 per. Yes, it’s a kinda funky discount, but it applies to both their regular Australian wool suits (drops them to $ 275 per) or their fancier Italian wool suits (drops those to $ 344.50 per). Not bad considering they’re ALL half canvas construction and available in slim or contemporary fits. It is Spier & Mackay though, so expect sizes to be scattered. And yes, it does work if you mix and match an Aussie wool suit with one of their Italian wool suits.

Massdrop: AE Chukka 2nds – $ 179.99 FINAL | Loake Pimlico Chukka – $ 204.99 FINAL

AE & Loake Chukkas

It’s a gall-darned chukka party over at Massdrop right now. The issue… is that they’re both final sale. No returns. It’s a pre-order model, so, they’re not keen on taking stock back. So there’s a real risk there with shoes. Especially if they’re 2nds like the AEs. Made in the USA for the Allen Edmonds and make in the UK for the Loakes.

Todd Snyder: 30% off Select Items

Todd Snyder

This is a weird one, because some of the items are 30% off, some are a little MORE than 30% off, and some are a little less. Beats me. But hey, it’s nice to see at least a little mid-season discounting from Todd Snyder. Sizes are scattered on the suits. They’re made in Canada from Italian fabrics though, so if you land one, lucky you.

Allen Edmonds: Warehouse Sale in their Clearance Section

Hat tip to Eric J. for the heads up on this. I haven’t seen prices like this on AEs in a good long while. Yes, there’s some funky designs in there, but suede strands? Just in time for the warm weather? Yes please.

TheTieBar: Free Dress Shirt w/ Purchase of $ 150+ w/ BREEZY

The Tie Bar

The Combo Pick: THREE Dress Shirts for $ 140 + Knit Silk Pointed Tip in Navy  = $ 165 AND you get a free fourth shirt

Doubling up the discount here. Confirmed that this should work from the good folks at TheTieBar. If you want to stock up, grab three of their pretty darn good dress shirts for $ 140 (usually it’s $ 55 per, or, the bulk deal is 3 / $ 140). Then add something small, like one of their new-ish pointed tip silk knit ties. Perfect for summer. That trips the $ 150 balance and you end up with a free shirt. You’ll have to manually add that 4th shirt to your cart, since at checkout they just drop $ 55 off your bill once you nip past $ 150. So if you don’t want a tie, by all means, just go for four shirts.

BONUS  J. Crew: 30% off Select w/ SHOPTOIT

J. Crew Unsuit

The Pick: J. Crew’s Un-Suit Jacket & Matching Pant – $ 175.60 ($ 266)

Last day for this. Full range of picks over here, including some wheelhouse wool suits. No, you don’t need to buy the entire suit to get the savings. Just want a sportcoat? Totally fine. Looking for a pair of slim lightweight pants for summer, but don’t need the jacket? You can do that too. Head here for a full review of these suits.

BEST DISCOUNT UPDATE:

Long Weekend Sales Hoedown – 40% off Italian Wool Suits, Spier & Mackay $30 Off, Ledbury Savings, & More

IT’S NOT JUST A HANDFUL. IT’S A HOEDOWN.

hoedownin

Why hoedown? Too much for a handful. Enjoy the long weekend fellas. And not to nag,
but come Monday, don’t forget what that day is actually about. Despite the two holidays being different,
we’re sticking with the same policy as Veterans Day come Monday. We won’t be posting.

B.R.: 40% off no BR Merch Exclusions w/ BRSUMMER + Free 3-5 Day Ship on $ 100+ w/ BRSHIP

BR’s offer for the weekend just got a whole lot better. 40% off, and now there’s no BR Merchandise exclusions. Nice. Also, if you trip the $ 100 threshold, you can get a bit faster than normal shipping with that BRSHIP code. Also, if you’re a cardmember, don’t forget to use the code BRCARD at checkout for an additional 10% off.

J. Crew: 40% off Select Full Price w/ GETAWAY

J. Crew

40% off is nothing to sneeze at. Usually they go 30% off for big weekends. Exclusions are all over the place (looks like most sportcoats are out, but some suiting is in?) but there’s plenty to consider. Like those Palma sunglasses. More on those over here.

Brooks Bros: Extra 25% off Select Clearance + 4 Shirts for $ 199

Brooks Brothers

Great for those of us who love Brooks Brothers… yet don’t usually operate on a Brooks Brothers budget. Personally, I’m a big fan of their Regent fit sportcoats. Especially when on double sale like this.

Spier & Mackay: $ 30 off Sportcoats w/ COATUSA

Spier & Mackay

Half canvas construction. Easy to tailor, non functioning sleeve cuffs. Smartly designed linings (often partial depending on the fabric). Spier & Mackay knows what they’re doing when it comes to jackets. And now, their sportcoats are thirty bucks off through Sunday. Cotton sportcoats start at $ 198, so down to $ 168 with the discount. Higher end fabrics usually go for $ 398, and now drop to $ 368. Plenty in between those two price points too.

AE Factory 2nds: Memorial Day Weekend Savings

Allen Edmonds

Look for the shoes that have the strikethrough prices (ie something like: $ 299 $ 249). Those are the shoes getting the extra cuts this weekend. Why did they pick those particular models to get the fat cuts? Beats me. But some of them are rare birds that have gotten oddly large discounts. Remember, its a gamble since these are 2nds quality (cosmetic blemishes picked up during the manufacturing process). And it’s not risk free in terms of cash. They’re still demanding a steep $ 25 restocking fee on returned factory 2nds.

J.C.F.: 50% off Everything + Extra 50% off Clearance w/ WINWIN

J. Crew Factory

Yes, suits are included in this one too. Sportcoats and suits have been getting excluded a lot lately. So if you’ve had your eye on something in their Thompson Fit, now’s not a bad time to jump on it.

Domestic Domestic: 30% off Sitewide w/ MOON

Big thanks to Adam T. for the tip on this one. How can a small outfit like this company offer this sort of blanket, site wide discount? Beats the heck out of me. But it’s worth some browsing if you’re the rugged type who still has an eye for good aesthetics.

Ledbury: $ 50 off 2 Shirts, $ 150 off 4, $ 250 off 6 (STARTS 5/24)

Ledbury Blue Fine Twill Shirt | Dappered.com

If you love Ledbury, then now is one of the few times of the year that you can get their shirts on a discount. It’s not a huge discount, but it is something. Doesn’t work on polo shirts. And note that this deal isn’t active until Thursday. No code needed. Discount automatically applies at checkout.

Huckberry: Select Long Weekend Deals

Astorflex chelseas have dropped back down for the weekend. And for that audio stuff… B&O = Bang & Olufsen. I’m not really Mr. Audiophile, BUT… I’ve been lucky enough to drive a few automobiles with some Bang & Olufsen sound systems in them, and they’re friggin’ top notch. UPDATE: Looks like the wireless earbuds are NOT getting any kind of discount? Sorry about that.

UNIQLO: 2 Easy Care Dress Shirts for $ 49.90 (reg. $ 29.90 per)

UNIQLO

Remember these things? This is UNIQLO’s foray into the world of neck and sleeve dress shirts. Only the sleeves are much more precise compared to other dress shirts (these are down to the half inch, instead of ballpark 32/33 sizing like most makers). Usually they’re just under $ 30 a pop, but buy two, and they drop to just under $ 25 a piece.

Best Made Co.: 25% off Select w/ OUT18

Best Made Co.

Yes, this is the company that makes the absurdly expensive, painted handle axes. But they also make some mighty fine, super well made, handsome gear outside of their “hipster axe decor” collection. Much of it is made in the USA too. Just extended through May 28th.

Todd Snyder: 30% off Select Items w/ VIP30

Todd Snyder

Todd Snyder has some oddly expensive stuff (look at their selection of athleisure) yet then they have some pretty reasonably priced items. $ 600 for a made in Canada, stretch Italian wool suit ain’t half bad. The fact that it’s on sale is something else.

Nordstrom: Half-Yearly Sale is On

Nordstrom

Just in case you missed it. Picks are here. And as always, everything ships and returns for free. Appreciation for a retailer minimizing that risk is… up there. It’s something.

Massdrop: AE Factory 2nds Chukkas / Orient Mako II Diver

Massdrop

Two wheelhouse products for those of us that frequent this site. The thing about the factory 2nds chukkas is… factory 2nds are a tough ask on final sale. Because you just don’t know what that blemish/flaw is gonna look like until it shows up. Normal price for those AE Massdrop chukkas is $ 239. So, some savings, but not massive. Meanwhile, that Orient Mako II has dropped to $ 129 since so many people have bought in. Final sale on both and since it’s Massdrop, you’ll have to wait a while for delivery. It’s pre-order after all. UPDATE: Looks like they just added the Orient Ray II for $ 139.99.

GAP: Up to 50% off + Extra 20% off & free Ship w/ PARTY

GAP

It’s the “up to” distinction that’s key here. So the site’s not half off, some of it is, a few items may be, but much of it isn’t. That said, free shipping no minimum is a nice bonus if you’re the type who shops for one piece at a time.

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Dappered Space Picks

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Dappered Space Picks

Of course there’s a ton more where all this comes from, but Nordy’s home department can tend to lean towards more feminine style sensibilities. Still, there are some nice finds that’ll look great in a guy’s space. And of course, everything ships and returns free.

Also worth a mention:

  • Nordstrom Rack: Extra 25% off clearance items. Prices are as marked and have been updated.
  • Bonobos: The 20% off code BLUEMOON appears to still be active.
  • East Dane: Their Big Spring Sale has launched. And since they’re operated by Amazon, everything ships fast and free.
  • Cool Material: 20% off their store, some exclusions apply, with MEMDAY

J Crew Factory Jumps in the Tech Polo Ring, USA Made Dress Shoes, & More – The Thurs.

J. Crew Factory: 50% off (suiting excluded) + New Arrivals

J. Crew Factory

What have we here? “Performance” polos from J. Crew Factory? Ordered. And don’t worry, the annual polo palooza is fast approaching. Last year wasn’t the best polo crop. There are some good ones this year. Fingers crossed these make the list as a winner.

Brooks Bros: $ 100 off $ 300, $ 200 off $ 500 w/ SP18BC

Brooks Brothers

See what we’re doing here? We’re using socks from the sale section (at post time this is working) to trip the $ 300 threshold. At $ 300, use the $ 100 off $ 300 code SP18BC and you end up with Goodyear Welted, made in the USA shoes for just north of $ 200. Not bad being that they aren’t 2nds quality.

Target: Goodfellow & Co. Oxford Cloth Pants – $ 24.99

Target: Goodfellow & Co. Oxford Cloth Pants

So the site says these things are “poplin” but… it sure doesn’t look like it. Big thanks to Ryan N. for the tip who saw these in person, in store. Available in either slim or straight fit. Could be perfect for those hot summer days. Also, I don’t know what the “printed” distinction means on these pants. They just look like they’re heathered/chambray-ish/oxford cloth-y. Beats me.

Allen Edmonds Anniversary Sale ends MONDAY

Allen Edmonds

How’d tax day shake down for you. Good? Got some money back? Y’know, that’s actually not good. But. I totally understand how it makes one feel. Anyway, sock that return away in the emergency fund. But if you just can’t stand it, there’s the big AE sale.

Massdrop: Seiko SKX – $ 169.99 FINAL

Seiko SKX

Well look what’s back on Massdrop. It’s worth noting that while $ 169.99 is a fine price for a Seiko 007 or 009, they’re final sale. If you want the ability to return the thing, head over to Amazon or JomashopThey’ve got much of the SKX series for $ 179.99. BUT… and this is a big difference from most Massdrop products, THIS time Massdrop actually has these in stock. No waiting. Ships in 2-3 days.

BONUS  Huckberry: LeviMoon is back!!! – $ 239.98 ($ 289)

LeviMoon Lamp

Good God that’s a lot of money ($ 240!!) for what amounts to a small lamp (if that, depending on how much light it casts). But… good grief I want one. Levitates thanks to magic. Or, magnets. Magic or magnets. I dunno. I didn’t major in the science.

Questions Of Sales Tax On Online Purchases Goes To High Court

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sales Tax: $ 0.

Online shoppers have gotten used to seeing that line on checkout screens before they click “purchase.” But a case before the Supreme Court could change that.

At issue is a rule stemming from two, decades-old Supreme Court cases: If a business is shipping to a state where it doesn’t have an office, warehouse or other physical presence, it doesn’t have to collect the state’s sales tax.

That means large retailers such as Apple, Macy’s, Target and Walmart, which have brick-and-mortar stores nationwide, generally collect sales tax from customers who buy from them online. But other online sellers, from 1-800 Contacts to home goods site Wayfair, can often sidestep charging the tax.

More than 40 states are asking the Supreme Court to reconsider that rule in a case being argued Tuesday. They say they’re losing out on “billions of dollars in tax revenue each year, requiring cuts to critical government programs” and that their losses compound as online shopping grows. But small businesses that sell online say the complexity and expense of collecting taxes nationwide could drive them out of business.

Large retailers want all businesses to “be playing by the same set of rules,” said Deborah White, the president of the litigation arm of the Retail Industry Leaders Association, which represents more than 70 of America’s largest retailers.

For years, the issue of whether out-of-state sellers should collect sales tax had to do mostly with one company: Amazon.com. The online giant is said to account for more than 40 percent of U.S. online retail sales. But as Amazon has grown, dotting the country with warehouses, it has had to charge sales tax in more and more places.

President Donald Trump has slammed the company, accusing it of paying “little or no taxes” to state and local governments. But since 2017, Amazon has been collecting sales tax in every state that charges it. Third-party sellers that use Amazon to sell products make their own tax collection decisions, however.

The case now before the Supreme Court could affect those third-party Amazon sellers and many other sellers that don’t collect taxes in all states — sellers such as jewelry website Blue Nile, pet products site Chewy.com, clothing retailer L.L. Bean, electronics retailer Newegg and internet retailer Overstock.com. Sellers on eBay and Etsy, which provide platforms for smaller sellers, also don’t collect sales tax nationwide.

States generally require consumers who weren’t charged sales tax on a purchase to pay it themselves, often through self-reporting on their income tax returns. But states have found that only about 1 percent to 2 percent actually pay.

States would capture more of that tax if out-of-state sellers had to collect it, and states say software has made sales tax collection simple.

Out-of-state sellers disagree, calling it costly and extraordinarily complex, with tax rates and rules that vary not only by state but also by city and county. For example, in Illinois, Snickers are taxed at a higher rate than Twix because foods containing flour don’t count as candy. Sellers say free or inexpensive software isn’t accurate, more sophisticated software is expensive and that collecting tax nationwide would also subject them to potentially costly audits.

“For small businesses on tight margins, these costs are going to be fatal in many cases,” said Andy Pincus, who filed a brief on behalf of eBay and small businesses that use its platform.

The case now before the Supreme Court involves South Dakota, which has no income tax and relies heavily on sales tax for revenue.

South Dakota’s governor has said the state loses out on an estimated $ 50 million a year in sales tax that doesn’t get collected by out-of-state sellers.

In 2016 the state passed a law requiring those sellers to collect taxes on sales into the state, a law challenging the Supreme Court precedents. The state, conceding it could win only if the Supreme Court reverses course, has lost in lower courts.

South Dakota says the high court’s previous decisions don’t reflect today’s world. The court first adopted its physical presence rule on sales tax collection in a 1967 case dealing with a catalog retailer. At the time, the court was concerned in part about the burden collecting sales tax would place on the catalog company. The court reaffirmed that ruling in 1992.

It’s unclear how the justices might align on the question this time. But three justices — Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and Anthony Kennedy — have suggested a willingness to rethink those decisions. Kennedy has written that the 1992 case was “questionable even when decided” and “now harms states to a degree far greater than could have been anticipated earlier.”

“Although online businesses may not have a physical presence in some states, the Web has, in many ways, brought the average American closer to most major retailers,” he wrote in suggesting the days of inconsistent sales tax collection may be numbered. “A connection to a shopper’s favorite store is a click away regardless of how close or far the nearest storefront.”

Client Success Video: Bridging the Gap Between Sales and Marketing with Homefix Custom Remodeling

Recently, we sat down with Keith Sinnot, Chief Marketing Officer, and Ryan Howie, Senior Vice President of Operations, from Homefix Custom Remodeling (HCR). Modernize has supplied Homefix Custom Remodeling with a steady stream of Windows and Roofing leads to feed their revenue goals since 2012. Keith proudly admits, “our relationship with Modernize is ever-growing. We have experienced growth that’s nearly hard to understand or keep up with over the past five years”. Hear their story of success by watching our video above or read the interview below!

What is your goal in working with Modernize?

“The main goal has always been growth. My initial goal was to grow and be one of the top contenders with our canvas groups. Over time, I surpassed all of them! It was nice to see us as the top of the leaderboard that Modernize was number one as a group.”

How has your relationship with Modernize evolved?

“Our relationship with Modernize is ever-growing. We take their lead, and most times it hasn’t failed us. When there’s some failure whether it’s on our end or even Modernize not exactly understanding our business model…They’ve always been able to pull back, readjust, and continue to push forward with us. ”
“We have doubled and tripled the volume we’ve done in our past years, but Modernize has always remained steady chunk of our business; Never fluctuating down… it’s always trending upward and making everything better. ”

What can new partners expect in working with Modernize?

“They’re going to press you for the information they need to make your account better. They’re going to keep you on your toes in terms of reporting, and make sure they’re constantly building your business alongside of you. Sometimes it can be a little grueling because it is a tough business to generate your own appointments, but they hold you to a higher standard and you’ll see the positive results. ”

How has Modernize impacted your business?

“it’s been extremely helpful… due to the influx of appts which end up turning into net business, we’ve been able to hire more people, we’ve been able to advance more people, we’ve built our infrastructure, we’ve been able to make amazing predictions that actually come true, and it’s created a lot of stability in a company that has grown substantially in the past 6-7 years.”
“Modernize has always been a rock for us. At the end of the day, no matter what happens, even in slower months or through explosive growth, we can always depend on each other to get through and making sure the leads we receive are the best that we can get. And that we do our job at the same time… that we don’t waste any opportunity that we’ve been given. We treat every single lead that’s been given to us with the same vigor that we treat everything else. It’s always worked out for us, and its hopefully going to work out and keep going.”

What is your advice for companies new to digital marketing?

“Try everything, but go with your gut. If you don’t understand something or don’t know the inner workings of it – ask. At the end of the day, there are so many avenues you can take with digital marketing. Obviously, some work better than others, but with a little work and mental application, it always works out in the end.”
“My best advice would be to let go of your trepidation and take their lead. A good company is going to have their client’s best interest at heart, and that’s obvious here at Modernize. My best advice would be to simply trust them.”

New Spring Sportcoats, J. Crew 40% off Combos, & More – The Thurs.

Massdrop: UK Made Chukkas – $ 204.99 FINAL ($ 335) | Victorinox Automatic – $ 249.99 FINAL | Seiko Sea Urchin Auto – $ 129.99 FINAL

Massdrops

The chukkas were a late addition to the big President’s Day sale round up, so, adding it here again. Made in England, these suede, Dainite stud soled, Goodyear welted chukkas are absolute classics. But final sale shoes are a real risk. What’s the difference between these and the Loake Kempton? The last. These are a little longer and leaner but still not arrow sharp or pointy. Want em’ in leather instead of suede? Tack on an extra twenty bucks. And note that sizing is in UK sizes. They recommend US customers go a full size down from their US size. Meanwhile, for the watches, the automatic Victorinox clocks in at 38mm, so, good for the smaller watch fans. Meanwhile, the Sea Urchin from Seiko is a classic, but widely available for just ten bucks more at Jomashop and Amazon, and it’s not final sale there.

J. Crew: 10% off 1, 20% off 2, 30% off 3, and 40% off 4 w/ ZMTWKIP

J. Crew

Weird tiers, but 40% off is pretty unheard of. Even if there’s tons of exclusions (no sportcoats are up for this grab). It DOES work on plenty of sale items though, so you can puff up your car with some small/cheap stuff from the sale section to net a higher % off. Obviously sticking with a similar color palate above, but, wanted to give a couple of rugged but still somewhat refined examples of what you can get for 40% off. Looks like that unstructured, shawl collar English Wool jacket has been restocked, but it’s still on sale. So you get the boots, socks, and the jacket for less than what the original retail price was on that sportcoat ($ 328).

Huckberry: Woolrich Yankee Unlined – $ 211.98 ($ 325)

Woolrich Yankee

Not quite “steal alert” worthy, but man are they something else. Made in the USA from US sourced leather, these things are the real deal and hugely underappreciated by the rest of the boot wearing public. Uppers are cut from nice and soft, deep looking Horween leather that requires zero break in time. None. The quadruple stitching makes for a nice sweep out and back for an apron toe, and the overall shape is a touch sleeker than a standard work boot (still some clunk, but it’s not outrageous). There’s room in the toe box, but it’s not as tall as some sh*t kickers. They are, in a word, beautiful. And tough as hell too. Comfortable as crazy out of the box, and I often use them as my go-to light hikers if I’m headed somewhere post hike where a standard hiking boot would look out of place.

Spier & Mackay: New Sportcoats Pre Order ($ 278 per)

Spier & Mackay

From basics like those blue and grey hopsacks with the patch pockets, to something more interesting and spring-ready like their wool/linen options. Nice to see that the prices are still nicely affordable, and since it’s Spier & Mackay you have to think they’d run a sale or two in the not overly distant future. Half canvas on these things too. This is a pre-order though, with shipping happening around mid March.

Allen Edmonds: $ 100 off select Dainite Soled Models

Allen Edmonds

When does $ 100 off not feel like $ 100 off? When its only been a few weeks since Allen Edmonds jacked their full retail prices up. But, we’ll all get used to it eventually, and under $ 300 for those brown Higgins Mill, which hadn’t gone on sale as of yet, isn’t a half bad price.

J. Crew’s new $266 Unconstructed Suit, a $130 Automatic Diver, & More – The Thurs.

EXPRESS: 40% off Everything

Those boots sure look like some Wolverine 1K knockoffs, no? Could have potential. reviews seem decently solid. Meanwhile, their EXPRESS tech polos are outstanding. Tons of stretch, and they don’t go on sale all that often.

J. Crew: New “Un Suits” + 30% off Select full Price & Sale w/ SOGOOD

I have to admit it guys… I think this “un suit” idea is pretty cool. Especially for the warmer months. $ 266 for a cotton-linen, unconstructed suit that’s super easy to dress up or way, way down, and you can break it up and wear the pieces individually on their own? I think J Crew has a hit on their hands here. Is it gonna replace the need for most men to have a wheelhouse, nicely structured (but not overly structured) charcoal or navy wool suit in their wardrobe? Of course not. But are a lot more guys gonna look really good for not too much cash with one of these un-suit things? You bet. Hat tip to reader Jean for sending in the tip on these new suits. Meanwhile, code SOGOOD knocks 30% off select items (lots of exclusions of course) and I believe gets you free shipping through Sunday.

Nordstrom: New Additions to Sale

Nordstrom

Still seems like Nordstrom is continuing to clean out their winter stock. Lots of outerwear and sweaters and what not in the sale section right now. Plus, since it’s Nordstrom, it’s never final sale and it all ships and returns for free.

Club Monaco: 25% off $ 200+ w/ REFRESH

Club Monaco

Exclusions are Birkenstock, Viberg, Woolrich, and Zespa. So? Filson gets the cut. Not the biggest discount, but it’s a discount. Which sometimes can be tough to get if you’re shopping for a made in the USA Filson briefcase or duffel.

Massdrop.: Orient Mako 44.5 mm XL Automatic – $ 129.99 FINAL

Orient Mako

Even though it’s final sale, that’s a pretty darn good price for a 200m, well built, automatic diver. But, it is a big sucker, so bigger broader fellas need only apply here. More than a few color combos to pick from too. Full review of this thing can be found here.

BONUS: Gustin’s Horween CXL #8 USA Made Briefcase is back – $ 249

Gustin

Made in the USA from Horween’s legendary, burgundy, chromexcel leather. Not super structured, so it’ll fit in well in business casual workplaces, but that leather is still something else with all of its texture and shade variations.

New J. Crew Factory Arrivals, Massdrop Watches, & More – The Thurs.

Allen Edmonds Shoebank: Liverpool & 5th Ave for $ 195

Allen Edmonds

Huge thanks to James W. for sending in the style tip here. Liverpool 2nds and 5th Ave 2nds for under two hundred bucks? That’s awfully good. Especially for the Liverpool chelseas. Fingers crossed yours come with hardly a blemish to em. I have a pair of Liverpool 2nds, and I lucked out on mine. Couldn’t find the defect. Remember, there’s a $ 10 re stocking fee if you return any factory 2nd shoes.

J. Crew Factory: Up to 50% off New Arrivals

J. Crew Factory

First, most of you guys know how this works. J. Crew Factory releases a bunch of new arrivals, and then we wait. Discounts aren’t usually great from the jump. So, since it’s still February and this is Spring stuff, holding off could save you some dough. And second, two observations:

  1. Those shirts look… short, don’t they? Are they going for the untucked look here? And are they ACTUALLY shorter, or did they just use taller models? Info doesn’t say.
  2. Good on JCF to make a cheaper version of the hugely popular “deep water” unconstructed linen cotton blazer from big brother J. Crew. That’s certainly worth investigating for our upcoming best spring/summer sportcoats & blazers post.

Massdrop.: Victorinox Auto – $ 249.99 FINAL | Glycine Combat Sub – $ 379.99 FINAL

Victorinox & Glycine Massdrop

I know that most people are gonna gravitate towards the Glycine… but that price on the Victorinox is crazy. Even if you’re not a stainless steel bracelet kinda dude, and want to rip the thing off and put it on a leather strap (which it’d look dynamite on). If memory serves, last time it hit Massdrop that thing was $ 280. Sapphire crystal, water resistant to 100m, and it has an exhibition caseback? Not bad for $ 250. But, as always, it’s final sale.

DSW: 30% off Boots w/ BOOTS30

DSW Boots

Some exclusions, but they don’t look like many of these brands would apply: (Excludes Birkenstock, Brooks, Converse, Keen, Nike, Rainbow, Sorel, UGG, and Under Armour products).

B.R.: 40% off $ 200+ w/ BRFRESH (no BR merch exclusions)

Banana Republic

A high threshold, but not a bad deal considering there’s no exclusions once you get there. And that new basketweave cotton blazer, unlined in the back too, sure looks like it has potential. More picks that should trip this threshold can be found over here.

BONUS: A.E. Clearance: Those Higgins Mills are still there

Allen Edmonds Higgins Mill Boot | Dappered.com

Remember when I said (or wrote) “Don’t expect these to last long” ??? Right. Well, they’re lasting surprisingly long. Heck, there even seems to have been an additional restock of the natural CXL. So, I was loud wrong, but it’s still worth another mention in case you’re looking to invest in some really nice American Made boots.

Someone is already trying to stop sales of Elon Musk’s flamethrower

TwitterFacebook

Elon Musk’s plan to sell Boring Company branded flamethrowers is certainly a fantastic bit of marketing, and it’s no wonder pre-sales are on fire.

While Musk has made assurances that the flamethrower will meet national guidelines by emitting a flame less than 10 feet, one Californian assemblyman wants to put an end to the idea for good.

Democrat Miguel Santiago announced Monday he will introduce legislation aimed at blocking the sale of the $ 500 flamethrower, in the state of California at least.

“I honestly thought it was a joke when the article was read to me — while I was sitting in Los Angeles traffic,” Santiago said in a statement on Twitter.  Read more…

ENTERTAINMENT DEAL UPDATE:

Monday Sales Tripod – Brooks Brothers up to 70% off, Suitsupply Pre-Order, & More

The Thursday Handfuls are great, but what if Monday (or Tuesday) rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? You’ll find three of the best, with a few picks from each, to start the week below.

#1. Brooks Brothers: Up to 70% off FINAL SALE

Brooks Brothers

I honestly can’t remember the last time Brooks Brothers: A. Slashed prices like this, and B. made stuff final sale. High rewards here, but high risk as well being that you can’t return any of it. Size shown above on that Regent Fit sportcoat would be a 41 R on 5’10” / 195.

#2. Massdrop: Nico Nerini Goodyear Welted Captoe Oxfords – $ 124.99 FINAL

Nico Nerini Goodyear Welted Captoe Oxfords

Goodyear welted, Made in India, and allegedly uses Italian full grain leather. Could be a good option for those who want the look of an Allen Edmonds Strand, but just can’t afford that price right now? Got a tip about this brand a while back from a reader, and while he was reviewing their tassel loafers (also appeared on Massdrop) he was impressed for the price. Here’s what reader Jamie V. had to say:

Quality – They are goodyear welted, but appear to have a 270 rather than 360 goodyear welt. The stitching looks pretty even throughout and I haven’t noticed any flaws with the leather or lasting.  The leather is decent, supposedly Italian full grain. I assume that’s where costs were cut (and labor, given they were made in India), but its not overly stiff, shiny, or plasticky. Sizing/Fit – I got these in my usual dress shoe size, and they fit true to size, if perhaps a bit narrow (but I don’t have wide feet). They were initially snug across the vamp and around my pinky toe, but have loosened up as I’ve worn them today.

#3. Suitsupply: Spring 2018 Pre-Order is Live

Suitsupply

Not a sale, but still worth a mention. Suitsupply has just put their new, warm-weather collection up for pre-order. So while it might still be very much winter in much of the Northern Hemisphere, if you’re the type to plan ahead (or, are headed somewhere warm in the not overly distant future) then you can get your orders in now.

Bonus  Nordstrom: AE Cornwallis in Black – $ 177.75 ($ 395)

AE Cornwallis in Black

Big thanks to Neil V. for the tip here. You can have any color you’d like, as long as it’s Black. Don’t be surprised if this deal expires soon (it’s a price match). Not all sizes available. First quality AE’s for well under $ 200 AND they ship and return for free. Not bad at all.

Merino Henleys under $30, Scottish made Cashmere Scarves for $40, & More – The Thurs.

J. Crew: Extra 50% off Final Sale Items w/ SAVENOW

Only works on final sale stuff, and boy is the selection picked over. UPDATE: J. Crew dumped a LOT of new stuff in their sale section over night. Lots of seasonal suits and blazers. So, hop to it before this stuff runs out the door. Odd thing is, they say it’s good on final sale items, but I’m not seeing the usual “FINAL SALE NO RETURNS” verbiage on the product pages? Be careful though.

Massdrop: Scottish Made 100% Cashmere Scarves – $ 49.99 FINAL

Massdrop Scottish Scarves

It’s Massdrop, so it’s final sale, but forty bucks for a 100% cashmere scarf that was made in Scotland? Not bad. And you’ve got choices. 21 scarves in 3 different sizes. Only drawback, other than final sale, is that they won’t ship until the end of February. So, not much time left to use em’ after that.

Bonobos: FINAL SALE: Extra 40% off w/ SALEONSALE

Bonobos

Further reductions and no more tiers. Meanwhile, around thirty bucks is an amazing deal on those merino wool henleys. Sure, they require a bit more care in terms of washing, but they’re light years ahead of crappy cotton henleys.

DSW: $ 10 off $ 49, $ 20 off $ 99, $ 60 off $ 199 w/ KEEPSAVNG

DSW

DSW’s excellent for the price chukkas are back. Some deals to be had for sure if you like DSW’s house brand lines. Aston Grey has always been a nice budget brand. You can check out a full review of those chukkas right here.

J. Crew Factory: Extra 50% off Clearance w/ GOTTASHOP

J. Crew Factory

The J. Crew Factory clearance section can be less than impressive sometimes. But now? It’s actually kinda solid. Who knows how much stock they have left, but their merino wool sweaters (v necks, cardigans, and crews) are quite nice. Especially for 50% off the on-sale price.

Also worth a mention:

  • H&M: Extra 25% off sale items w/ 9119
  • Brooks Brothers: They’re running a FINAL sale event? I honestly don’t recall them doing that in the past. No returns then, obviously.
  • Ledbury: Last day for an extra 40% off sale items w/ EXTRA40

New Nordy Sale Items, Extra 40% off Bonobos Clearance, & More – The Thurs.

Nordstrom: New items added to sale/further markdowns?

Nordstrom

The post Christmas half-yearly sale is long gone, but it’s still winter clearance season and Nordstrom appears to be refreshing their sale section. Sizes can be a bit scattered depending on what you’re looking for, but there seems to be plenty of stock when it comes to their in-house basics (like stretch chinos and wool trousers). Meanwhile, a heads up on that LBM 1911 jacket: it’s listed in EU. So, subtract 10 to get the US size. (48EU = 38R in the US.) Everything, as always, ships and returns for free.

Bonobos: FINAL SALE: Extra 30% off w/ BULLSEYE or 40% Off $ 175+ w/ MORE

Bonobos

Got that? It’s all final sale, but the extra 40% off cut w/ MORE is more substantial than what they had been offering. Just has to be a spendy purchase (which isn’t that hard to do at Bonobos, even when stuff is already on sale). Picks and discounts above reflect the usage of that MORE code. No returns on any of this stuff though, so you better be familiar with Bonobos and their fits.

Allen Edmonds: Additional items added to clearance

Allen Edmonds

Yep, it very much is the tail end of winter clearance season. Quite a mish mash up there. And obviously not to scale… otherwise those would be some huge shoes and some teeny jackets.

Mr. Porter: Additional Reductions to Sale

Mr. Porter

Not gonna lie. We usually steer a bit clear of Mr. Porter. Why? Because most of what they carry is expensive as hell, and super high-fashion. But, they’re running one of their rare sales, and there are a few… less loud items in there. Sizes are super scattered, even on the picks above, since it’s down to clearance time.

Filson: Additional Markdowns to Sale Section

Filson

The Pick: Briefcase Computer Bag in Navy – $ 194.90 ($ 395)

Not a ton of stock in the sale, but that briefcase is about what the Original Briefcases were going for during that Brooks Brothers extra 25% off clearance sale from last week. So, it appears that it’s NOT the original briefcase, yet it’s not the padded computer bag either? I’m confused. Thanks to Brendan L. for the Tip!

Nintendo Switch Beats Wii U Lifetime Sales in Japan

The Nintendo Switch has now sold more units in Japan than the Wii U did in its lifetime.

As reported by Famitsu (and spotted by Twitter’s Nibel), the Switch’s latest sales data puts it at 3,407,158 to the Wii U’s 3,301,555.

The Switch has been available for just over 10 months – the Wii U has been on sale for a little over 5 years. Japanese buyers have preferred handheld experiences in recent years, which perhaps explains Switch’s sales dominance over its predecessor.

The hybrid console has already proven itself to be a move in the right direction for Nintendo, and is expected to surpass Wii U’s global lifetime sales this year. In December, Nintendo said Switch had topped 10 million units worldwide – Nintendo reports that Wii U sold 13.56 million.

Retailers finally get a Santa Claus rally as sales surge

Santa Claus finally came for retailers this year — and Wall Street couldn’t be happier to see him. BR Extra 50% off Sale Items, Extra 50% off J. Crew Factory Clearance, & More – The Thurs.

B.R.: Extra 50% off Sale Items (no code needed)

Banana Republic

No code needed here, and I do believe cardmembers STILL get an extra 10% off with BRCARD at checkout. Sale section isn’t overflowing, but there’s still some really good stuff in there. That’s not a bad price for White Oak Selvedge, especially considering they’re about to close down. Full review of those Goodyear Welted Spanish made wingtips can be found here.

J.C.F.: Extra 50% off Clearance Items w/ FIFTY

J Crew Factory

Looks like plenty of their fall collection has wandered its way into the clearance area. Extra 50% off with that FIFTY code. But, it’s still clearance, so sizes and color selection are scattered. Don’t expect stuff to stick around.

EXPRESS: 50% Off Everything + Free Shipping no min.

Express

EXPRESS is a little low in stock on some items. They got hammered pretty good on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and have been running solid promos ever since. So, sizes might be scattered. Still nice to see a blanket 50% off though.

Bonobos: Extra 30% off Sale Items w/ HOHOHO

Bonobos

Extended. One. Last. Day. And it really has been one of the better deals Bonobos has run in a while. Not only is it a decent discount at 30% off, we’re talking about already marked down items here. So, those of us with tighter style budgets can actually play along a bit, depending on the piece we’re shooting for. That, and their sale section isn’t totally decimated. A solid selection is lurking in there.

Brooks Bros: Extra 25% off Clearance + Stackable Deals

Brooks Brothers

Just a reminder, since the extra 25% off clearance items ends today (12/21), you may have to hop to it if you’ll be using that extra discount on top of the following:

  1. $ 200 off $ 600 w/ BC17DC (excludes Red Fleece items)
  2. You can get a free $ 25 e-gift card with each purchase of a $ 150 e-gift card.

Got it? Good. More picks here. Prices above reflect the max discount and the usage of those “free” $ 25 gift cards when applicable.

Also worth a mention:

  • Club Monaco: 30% off already marked-down styles, no code required.
  • Gustin: Their USA made briefcase in CXL #8 is back for pre-order.
  • J. Crew: 30% off select styles w/ GIFTASAP
  • END: 25% off (some exclusions apply) w/ VIPSALE
  • Nordstrom: Just a reminder that they usually run a half-yearly sale starting the day after Christmas. We’ll have a full breakdown of the sale that day, so, stay tuned.

Thanks to Meghan Markle, Sales for This Item Have Increased by 1000%

It was just officially announced today that actress and activist Meghan Markle is engaged to Prince Harry, but her influence in the fashion world has already begun. It’s no secret that everything Markle’s future sister-in-law Kate Middleton touches (as in, wears) turns to sold-out gold, so it’s no surprise that the world has already become acutely interested in what Markle wears, especially since she made her public debut with Prince Harry in September at the Invictus Games in Canada. Case in point, Harper’s Bazaar UK just reported that at that event, Markle wore a pair of round sunglasses by Finlay & Co. (as pictured above), a London-based eyewear brand. Lo and behold, the brand just divulged that since Markle wore its Percy sunglasses, they’ve seen sales increase by a whopping 1000%.

While this is certainly an early indicator of Markle’s sartorial influence, it doesn’t hurt that the $ 180 round shades are as timeless, versatile, and flattering as they come. It also comes as no surprise that the sunglasses are currently out of stock until January 31, 2018, but luckily, they’re available in five other equally versatile color options.

Shop Meghan Markle’s in-demand sunglasses below.

3 Ways Small Business Owners Can Increase Sales This Black Friday

We are just days away from the most significant shopping time of the year! According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), approximately 164 million people plan to shop this weekend, including Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Small Business Saturday.

(Image: iStock)

While many larger corporations can offer deeply discounted deals and increase profits throughout this time, small business owners can position themselves to do just as well. Here are a few easy but impactful ways:

1. Offer discounted products and services for Black Friday

Do you have a service packaged and ready to go? Or do you have a surplus of products? This time is a great time to review your inventory or offerings to see what services can be discounted but still increase your bottom line.

Offering gift cards is also a great way to increase revenues at this time. Consumers are expected to spend $ 27.5 billion on gift cards this holiday season, according to NRF. So why not offer them?

2. Create an email campaign to boost revenue

After you have determined what services you can offer, next, it is time to get the word out. Using free newsletter providers such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, and others are great ways for little to no cost to get your message to those who matter. Create catchy subject lines, use pictures that pop, and keep your words to a minimum to capture your readers’ attention.

3. Find more customers

While it is good to spread your net wide, this is not always advantageous when advertising. If you have operated your business for some time, you should have an understanding of who your customer base is. For instance, if young professionals are likely to purchase, then you should focus your advertising efforts on this group.

Take advantage of social media postings and ads to target these groups. Lastly, write in your target audience language! Capture their attention by focusing your advertising efforts specifically to their needs and what they are likely to respond to.

Mastering Sales: Overcome Prospects’ Objections Like a Pro

Objections during a sales pitch happen all the time and they are not necessarily bad things in the world of sales. If your prospect has an objection, it means you have their attention.

They are listening to what you’re saying. They are interested in being involved in the buying process and their objections are a way to make sure what you’re selling to them is worth it. So, how do you use their objections to move your sale forward? Here are some tips:

Overcoming “No”

When you’re hit with the, “No, we’re happy with what we have now,” line after pitching your heart out, don’t let that be the end of the road. Find out the “why” behind your prospect’s thought process and give them a reason to believe the product you’re selling will make their life easier.

Why are they happy with what they currently use?

What aspects about the product that they use now are reflected in the product you’re selling?

What extra capabilities can you offer?

Push the sale ahead by listing benefits others have seen by using your product.

Be the “Better Deal”

If a prospect says they can’t go forward with the deal you discussed because the price is too high, most likely they’re bluffing. It might be that other terms of the deal aren’t good enough anymore, but know these are things that can probably be worked on together. Before you think about reducing your price (which you shouldn’t), ask if your product or service is still a priority for their company. When they say yes, you have a chance to shift the conversation to how to make the sale happen. Is timing the issue? Perhaps offer a quicker delivery or flexible
