Melania Trump Wears Jacket Saying ‘I Really Don’t Care’ During Child Detention Center Trip

First Lady Melania Trump visited a Texas detention center Thursday to check in on immigrant children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

After the White House announced its “zero-tolerance” policy in April, over 2,000 children have been separated from their parents. Trump decided to make the trip a day after the president signed an executive order to stop the separation of families, but it’s not her timing people are questioning–it’s her fashion choice.

When boarding the plane in Maryland, Trump was spotted wearing a khaki green jacket with the words “I really don’t care, do you?” scrawled in white graffiti-style writing on the back. Trump removed the jacket before deplaning, but the internet had already latched onto this paradoxical clothing choice, some finding it hard to believe.

Others compared the event to the 2014 incident when then-President Barack Obama was bashed for wearing a tan suit, or the time in 2009 when conservatives criticized Michelle Obama for wearing a dress than exposed her bare arms.

“It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message,” said Melania Trump’s publicist, insisting reporters instead focus on the First Lady’s detention center visit.

Trump toured the facilities of the Upbring New Hope Children’s Center in McAllen, Tex. and participated in a roundtable discussion with staff members. She inquired about the children’s physical and mental care. When she asked how often children are allowed to speak to their families, she was told children with verified families get a 10-minute phone conversation twice a week.

“We all know they are here without their families and I want to thank you for your hard work, your compassion, and your kindness you are giving to them in these difficult times,” Trump told the staff members.

This visit was an attempt to lend support to those caring for the immigrant children, although Trump did not make a public statement about the plight of separated families until this past Sunday. While the visit shows Trump is making an effort to be involved with the care of the children, her jacket choice sent a confusing message.

Melania Trump Destroys Rudy Giuliani For Saying She Trusts The Donald In Stormy Daniels’ Cheating Scandal

It is a case of she said, he said between Rudy Giuliani and Melania Trump and the bizarre confusion has many believing that the president might have had an affair with porn Stormy Daniels.

The Donald’s attorney and mouthpiece, Giuliani, recently did an interview with CNN while at the Capital Market conference in Tel Aviv where he bashed Stormi because she “sells her body for exploitation.”

Giuliani, who seems to have forgotten that First Lady Melania posed nude on several occasions, went on to say that Stormi is not credible.

The former mayor of New York said: “Yes, I respect porn stars. Don’t you respect porn stars? Or do you think that porn stars desecrate women? Do you think that porn stars don’t respect women? And therefore sell their bodies. So yes, I respect all human beings. I even have to respect, you know, criminals. But I’m sorry I don’t respect a porn star the way I respect a career woman or a woman of substance or a woman who has great respect for herself as a woman and as a person and isn’t going to sell her body for sexual exploitation.”

He added: “So Stormy, you want to bring a case, let me cross-examine you. Because the business you’re in entitles you to no degree of giving your credibility any weight. And secondly, explain to me how she could be damaged. I mean, she has no reputation. If you’re going to sell your body for money, you just don’t have a reputation. Maybe old-fashioned, I don’t know.”

Giuliani went on to reveal that he spoke to Melania about the affair and “she believes her husband, and she knows it’s untrue.”

Melania, via her spokperson, called Giuliani a liar.

Reporter Maggie Haberman shared: “Yikes. I asked @FLOTUS spokeswoman @StephGrisham45 about Giuliani saying that she believes her husband re Stormy Daniels. Response: “I don’t believe Mrs. Trump has ever discussed her thoughts on anything with Mr. Giuliani.”

At this point, even the people who support the Trump family are bashing Giuliani for repeatedly putting his foot in his mouth.

The president should have known that “Mr one-state strategy Giuliani” is prone to gaffes.

Bill Clinton Dismisses Gillibrand Saying He Should Have Resigned

In a new interview set to air this weekend on CBS Sunday Morning, former President Bill Clinton will respond for the first time to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s (D-NY) assertion that he should have resigned over the Lewinsky affair.

“You have to—really ignore what the context was,” Clinton says, according to a CBS transcript. “But, you know, she’s living in a different context. And she did it for different reasons. So, I—but I just disagree with her.”

Gillibrand, who enthusiastically endorsed Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid and has longstanding ties to the Clinton family, told The New York Times last November that the “appropriate response” to the scandal over his White House affair with intern Monica Lewinsky would have been for Bill Clinton to resign.

Facebook is banning women for saying mean things about men

Saying ‘men are scum’ is apparently a lot worse than ‘women are scum’

facebook

Women are being suspended from Facebook for ‘hate speech’ for posting ‘men are scum’ or ‘men continue to be the worst’ on the social network.

One of the women recently banned is New York standup comic Marcia Belsky, who was blocked for 30 days for writing ‘men are scum’ in a comment under a post by her friend Nicole Silverberg.

Somewhat ironically, Silverberg had been detailing the abusive messages she received from men after writing a list on Twitter about the ways women could be treated better.

Since the #MeToo movement, a number of women have been banned for responding to female friends’ stories of sexual assault and harassment with derogatory posts about men. This is despite Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg’s recent post in solidarity with victims of sexual harassment.

According to the Daily Beast, comedian Kayla Avery received a month-long ban for writing ‘men continue to be the worst’ after being aggressively trolled online. ‘There was one guy who was threatening to find my house and beat me up. I got banned before I could even successfully report it’ she told the site.

In protest, 500 female comedians set up a group where they pledged to post ‘men are scum’ on their own pages, but many of these women then found they too had been blocked.

The reaction from Facebook is being viewed as suspiciously heavy handed, particularly regular criticism levelled at the site for its anaemic response to hate speech and trolling. As Marcia Belsky – one of the original comics to be banned – pointed out, ‘women are scum’ or the use of the n-word didn’t appear to have violated the platform’s standards.

One reason for the site’s approach could be down to a set of leaked internal documents detailing the algorithms it uses to tackle what it deems to be hate speech.

The documents show white men were categorised as a protected group on Facebook, but ‘female drivers’ and ‘black children’ were subsets and therefore not protected.

This doesn’t explain why ‘women are scum’ appeared to go unmoderated. And though Facebook later said the ban on Marcia Belsky was a mistake, Kayla Avery said Facebook moderators had combed through her old posts to delete negative posts about men.

‘What. A. Mystery!’ she wrote on Twitter.

Gabby Douglas Apologizes for Saying Women Should Dress ‘Modestly’ in Response to Post About Sexual Assault

Gymnast Gabby Douglas has apologized for saying women are responsible for dressing “modestly” in response to her Olympic teammate Aly Raisman‘s social media post about sexual assault.

Raisman on Friday wrote that men don’t have the right the “shame or not believe” women who come forward about sexual abuse just because they might have participated in a “sexy photoshoot” or wore a “sexy outfit” previously.

“Women are allowed to feel sexy and comfortable in their own skin, in fact I encourage you all to wear what you feel good in,” Raisman wrote. “I will not put up with any woman or girl being shamed for wanting to wear a skirt, dress, etc. I do not tolerate it.”

Following Raisman’s statement on victim shaming, Douglas weighed in with the opinion that “it is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy.”

“Dressing in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet, prompting immediate reaction and criticism.

Teammate Simone Biles tweeted: “Shocks me that i’m seeing this but it doesn’t surprise me… honestly seeing this brings me to tears bc as your teammate I expected more from you & to support her.”

After deleting her initial tweet, Douglas apologized, saying, “I didn’t correctly word my reply.”

“I am deeply sorry for coming off like i don’t stand alongside my teammates,” Douglas tweeted. “Regardless of what you wear, abuse under any circumstance is never acceptable.”

Raisman’s post comes after she became the latest in a string of high-profile gymnasts to accuse former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar of sexual abuse.

Nassar is currently awaiting sentencing in Michigan after pleading guilty to child pornography charges. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexually abusing his former patients and a family friend.

A lawyer for Nassar told TIME earlier this month that a gag order in his pending case prevented him from commenting on Raisman’s allegations.

Drama! NeNe Leakes Takes MAJOR Shots at Kim Zolciak for Saying She Lives in a ‘Roach Infested’ Home [Photo]

Say What Now? Pastor Denies Saying He Wants to Eat Nicki Minaj’s Booty on Instagram [Photos]

Nicki Minaj posted a rather cakey selfie on Saturday and apparently a pastor couldn’t help but express his desires.

via Complex:

The man in question was identified as William Henry Dewberry III, whose Facebook page lists him as an Elder at the Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. Yes, this self-described “God Fearing Man & Pastor” appears to have been caught telling Nicki Minaj he wanted to eat her ass in a public forum.

But there are quite a few holes in this story. For one, the church he has listed as his professional home is not even remotely close to where he keeps his actual home. His location on Facebook (in addition to recent photos) places him in Columbus, Georgia, which is a six-plus hour drive from the Church of God in Christ. Perhaps Dewberry just hasn’t updated where he sets up shop yet—and he has moved around a bit due to work with the U.S. Army—but it’s a red flag all the same.

There’s also a recent post from the “dewberry_2017” account that does not look at all pastor-like, with the page going on an extended, profanity-laced tirade directed at a woman on Facebook.

On his behalf, the real Dewberry is denying the profile in question belongs to him. In a post on his Facebook page, Dewberry asked his friends to report the account claiming to be him.

“Saints, I need your help,” reads Dewberry’s post. “Somebody created a fake Instagram page under my name. I don’t know who did this. But, this needs to come down ASAP! May somebody report this IMMEDIATELY! I did not create this. I already have an Instagram page, and this one ain’t me!!!!”

The account he claims is private, so it’s hard to verify, but at the very least has a different picture and is a separate entity from the account that told Nicki Minaj they were coming for her booty.

If “dewberry_2017” is an imposter, they’ve done a damn good job of keeping this act up. Someone has been cataloging photos of Dewberry and his loved ones from that account since January 2016, over a year-and-a-half prior to the comment being dropped on Minaj’s instagram. That’s a difficult act to keep up for that amount of time, and some of Dewberry’s own Facebook friends remained unconvinced that he was being duped.

Will the real Dewberry please stand up? I suppose this is an unsolved mystery for now, up there in scale with whether Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster are real.

Complex has reached out to Dewberry for comment, and will update this post if we hear back from him. In the meantime, everyone do yourself a favor and stop leaving thirsty comments on social media feeds, regardless of your profession or who the subject of admiration is. It’s almost never going to end well.

Do you believe the pastor? We’re not sure if we do…

Michael B. Jordan Responds To Trolls Saying A Black Man Can’t Play Johnny Storm

Michael B. Jordan is responding to Internet trolls saying a black man can’t play Johnny Storm in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film.

After online commenters expressed their displeasure over the fact that the actor is playing a character who was blond and blue-eyed in the comic, the “Friday Night Lights” and “Fruitvale Station” star penned an essay in Entertainment Weekly addressing the topic:

Sometimes you have to be the person who stands up and says, “I’ll be the one to shoulder all this hate. I’ll take the brunt for the next couple of generations.” I put that responsibility on myself. People are always going to see each other in terms of race, but maybe in the future we won’t talk about it as much. Maybe, if I set an example, Hollywood will start considering more people of color in other prominent roles, and maybe we can reach the people who are stuck in the mindset that “it has to be true to the comic book.” Or maybe we have to reach past them.

To the trolls on the Internet, I want to say: Get your head out of the computer. Go outside and walk around. Look at the people walking next to you. Look at your friends’ friends and who they’re interacting with. And just understand this is the world we live in. It’s okay to like it.

After the essay was published, Jordan took to Twitter to thank fans expressing their support:

“Fantastic Four” hits theaters Aug. 7. Head over to Entertainment Weekly to read Jordan’s insightful piece in full.

Saying No to Find Our Greatest Yes

I did three crazy things today:

1) I UNsubscribed from the job ad daily alert that showed me opportunities within the government daily
2) I said NO to a potential secondment opportunity
3) I said NO to teaching yoga at a local studio for $ 30 an hour on weekday evenings

These were all scary moves for me, but very empowering. I cannot run myself thin. I cannot keep reaching out for more things instead of focusing on the key elements of a good life. I cannot keep thinking that my value lies in taking on another job or another opportunity. I must be still, do less, and allow my calling to blossom slowly but surely into what it’s meant to be.

I feel that right now in my journey, I have a dream that seems like an impossibility. It is to teach mindfulness, to find joy and balance in my own life and help others do the same. And to do this always. I keep finding excuses to run away from this dream, but it is my calling. It is what makes the world make sense for me. And I also dream of getting paid to do this at a rate that reflects my experience and worth.

While the full version of this dream may never come true, I realize today that this is not the point. We must work diligently and kindly towards our highest calling, and it is through the journey itself that we come to open to the most beautiful parts of ourselves.

As an example, this morning I buckled down and worked on jump back and jump through, one of the most elusive and difficult parts of the Ashtanga series. Before, I would sway between giving it up altogether, or powering through hoping that somehow I would attain it. But this morning, I slowed down. I broke it down. I did less poses. I stayed in the poses longer. I noticed where I am weak, without judging.

By the end of my practice, I felt stronger, closer to the impossible goal of jumping through. And it was exhilarating. Not because I will be able to jump through one day (I may or may not), but because I honoured my desire to reach further than I have before, I learned something new.

In between my shoulders, a deep sadness emerged. I cried at having tried so hard to find a job in government that reflected my truth and failing. When I stayed with the sadness and pain, I recalled a time when an old boyfriend broke up with me. I had felt like I had tried everything in my power to find love, but it wasn’t coming. Then, like now, I needed to surrender.

We move towards our goal or desire with passion, commitment and vision, but ultimately we have to let it go. We have to return to the reality that we already have everything we need, the love and purpose we desire is already within us. And ironically, when recognizing that nothing outside of us can bring us the love and purpose that we seek, we find it within ourselves, and the goals that we so desire come to us effortlessly.

For today, I embrace my greatest dreams and passions and move confidently towards them. With grace, with humility, with patience, and deep acceptance of the mystery of life.

Russell Crowe Comes Under Fire For Saying Actresses Must Act Their Age

In an interview with Australian Women’s Weekly, Russell Crowe made some inflammatory comments about actresses and age-appropriate roles. Crowe’s remarks appeared online two weeks ago, but caught a wave of attention on Monday morning which resulted in accusations of sexism.

Crowe was promoting his directorial debut, “The Water Diviner,” when he spoke about portraying a father of three grown sons in the movie. Saying he couldn’t have played the role 20 years ago, Crowe launched into a sermon about women’s place on the big screen:

The best thing about the industry I’m in — movies — is that there are roles for people in all different stages of life. To be honest, I think you’ll find that the woman who is saying that [the roles have dried up] is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can’t understand why she’s not being cast as the 21-year-old.

Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that’s bullshit, so will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be. If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you’re still the young buck when you’re my age, it just doesn’t work.

I have heard of an actress, part of her fee negotiation was getting the number of children she was supposed to have lessened. Can you believe this? This [character] was a woman with four children, and there were reasons why she had to have four children — mainly, she lived in a cold climate and there was nothing to do but fornicate all day — so quit arguing, just play the role!

The point is, you do have to be prepared to accept that there are stages in life. So I can’t be the Gladiator forever.

A slew of vitriolic headlines popped up in response to the actor’s remarks. Slate, for example, wrote Russell Crowe Says Older Women Don’t Get Movie Roles Because They Refuse to Act Their Age, while Jezebel published its reaction with the headline Always Full of Shit Russell Crowe Says Actresses Should Act Their Age. Here’s Everything Russell Crowe Got Wrong About Women In Film, Australian site Junkee wrote.

HuffPost Entertainment contacted Crowe’s rep for further comment but did not receive an immediate response.

Why Do We Keep Saying ‘I’m Fine’?

Co-authored by Mary Wilson

Beyoncé is a talented multitasker. How do I know this? Who else can sell over 1 million records without an ounce of promotion while at the same time being a mother and wife? Yeah, me either.

Through recent post-Met Gala events recently captured on an elevator security camera and released to the word, we caught a glimpse of the less-than-fabulous part of her life, or maybe just the real part. In the video seen around the world, we witness her younger sister, Solange, attacking and yelling at her husband, Jay Z. A security guard is forced to restrain a clearly enraged Solange, while Beyoncé barely attempts to stop the madness. This altercation ended with Beyoncé leaving the event with her sister, Jay Z taking a separate car, and a barrage of unanswered questions.

But to some, the strangest part of the whole scene wasn’t the brother-in-law/sister-in-law feud but the fact that Beyoncé just stood there. It was the fact that a couple of minutes after the physical fight in the elevator, she walked out like nothing had happened.

In the days following the event, Beyoncé was spotted courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game with her husband, apparently happily in love. I am a huge fan of Beyoncé, but I found it very odd. In the midst of this controversy, she just sat there and pretended that everything was OK? Now let’s be clear: B never said “I’m fine,” but in my opinion, her smile did.

So what is really going on here? Was this just a random family feud that ended with hugs and kisses, or was that video a peek into a larger issue that is cleverly being covered up for the sake of family and image? I think the latter.

In a world where celebrities (and non-celebrities) will sell their souls for a few dollars and Instagram “likes,” Beyoncé has always set herself apart by keeping her private life private. With her fame, her music telling girls to “run the world,” and her participation in campaign initiatives such as “Ban Bossy,” she has aimed to empower women and mothers. With that being said, at what point does keeping her life private and saving face in the midst of turmoil tarnish her message to women?

I believe it does, since it tells women everywhere that no matter how chaotic your life may be, you must act like you got this down — as usual.

As women and mothers, we are expected to deal with issues at home, privately, and never let the world know the truth, for fear of being viewed as weak or imperfect.

Were you too tired to feed your kid that meal of protein and whole-wheat pasta that you promised yourself you would make, so you bought pizza instead?

Did you leave your iPhone on top of the car (again) because your brain isn’t working today? That’s a totally true story, by the way (unfortunately).

Did you go to work and pretend you hadn’t just had a fight with your husband?

Are you seeing a therapist but lying about where you are from 7 to 8 p.m.?

Do you have no problem pretending in public that you don’t care about what you weigh, when in reality every time you take a bite, you think about how you need to stop taking bites?

Why are we like this?

Like it or not, I don’t know why women are shocked. We all do the same thing Beyoncé did. And we do it every day. She has her image, her family and her career to maintain. We’re really not that different. Granted, I don’t get to go on my private yacht all the time, but I digress.

We are constantly surrounded by examples of “perfect” women feeding us false examples that are impossible to achieve. In reality life happens, and life is full of failures and lessons learned. How are we supposed to look up to a celebrity like Beyoncé who brushes these life lessons under the rug and walks away with a forced smile? It’s conflicting that all of us shout “girl power” from the rooftops while simultaneously wearing the same fake smiles.

You know what I would’ve loved? If Beyoncé had gone off herself. If we’d been able to hear that audio. If Beyoncé had cursed out Solange or Jay Z or, better yet, the paparazzi waiting outside!

I would’ve said, “Finally!”

In “Pretty Hurts,” a song on her newest album, Beyoncé sings, “We try to fix something, but you can’t fix what you can’t see. It’s the soul that needs the surgery.” The question is: When do we women drop the façade and admit what’s really wrong?

Granted, in the real world, that might mean addressing a less-than-perfect marriage or a less-than-perfect career or just admitting, “No, everything is not fine, actually.” When was the last time you heard that from a friend? Probably never, because as much as people look on in awe as Beyoncé pretends that everything in her life is fine, most people do the same thing every day, programmed to just keep going and keep smiling.

Why do we all feel like we have to maintain perfection, especially black women? Is it the constant stream of social-media comparisons to keep up with? Is it the fact that we were taught to always hold it together, even when it’s all falling apart?

When do we drop the façade? When do we black women stop thinking that allowing ourselves to feel is weakness? When do we stop saying “I’m fine”?
