Rumors Abound, but Talk of a Spice Girls Reunion Tour Is ‘Premature’

For fans of the Spice Girls, speculation has been rampant about a possible reunion tour ever since it was revealed that the five original band members – Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm – had gathered over lunch at Horner’s home earlier this month. But those hoping to see Posh, Scary, Sporty, […]

Victoria Beckham Gives an Update on the Rumored Spice Girls Reunion Tour

Update, February 10: Victoria Beckham may have just set the record straight about the Spice Girls Reunion Tour rumors that began circulating earlier this week. According to British Vogue, the designer declared “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour,” at a preview of her F/W 18 collection today. But while a tour isn’t in the works right now, Beckham didn’t dismiss the idea of something happening down the line. “You know, there’s so much bad stuff going on, and the Spice Girls were about fun and celebrating individuality,” she said. “I think there’s so much that the brand can do, and it’s such a positive message for young kids. What does that look like in the future? It’s not me in a cat-suit.”

Originally posted on February 7: Remember Victoria Beckham’s mysterious Spice Girls Instagram post last week? We’ve been crossing our fingers that the group had something exciting up their sleeves, and now it appears we know what it is. TMZ reports that a reunion tour is officially happening, with stops in both the UK and the U.S. planned. Because friendship lasts forever, right?

Although the cult ’90s group has not confirmed the news, TMZ reports that they’re in talks with former manager Simon Fuller and are in the “rough planning” stage, intending to kick off the tour in late summer. Plus, we can reportedly expect new tour merch, but no new music. All we can say is: You can bet we’ll be booking tickets immediately. Can you imagine how good the stage costumes will be? If the news is true, we can’t wait to see what they’ll be wearing during the tour. See you there!

Victoria Beckham: There won’t be a Spice Girls tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Beckham says there will be no Spice Girls tour.
The 43-year-old star recently reunited with her former bandmates – Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C – to plot plans for a reunion but Victoria insists there won’t be any tour in the near futuree.
She told Vogue magazine: “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour. It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely. There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming. But this [fashion] is what I do.”
Meanwhile, her bandmate Geri previously confessed she had given up hope about the girl group reuniting.
Speaking about the possibility of the band reforming for the 20th anniversary of their debut single ‘Wannabe’, Geri said: “We all pushed for it, like, ‘Come on, let’s try and make it happen.’ It didn’t. You get to a point where you go, ‘Do you know what, just let it go.’ And I was having a baby. I’d really sort of let it go. It’s funny, they say let things go and I really had. That’s when I decided to go into television. A BBC executive said, ‘We think you should do primetime entertainment.’ She really encouraged me to do it.”

Turmeric: Miracle Spice or Herbal Myth?

All of a sudden, this yellow stuff is everywhere. It’s being stirred into your smoothies and heaped into products at your favorite health-food store. It’s in every hot recipe from curries to cocktails. But this herb is certainly not new. So what’s the deal with turmeric as a health trend?

Turmeric (also known as curcuma longa) is a native plant from India and part of the ginger root family. It’s what gives Indian curry its yellow coloring and flavor. (It’s also used in mustard, and colors our butter and cheese.) Turmeric has been used for over 4,000 years to treat a variety of things — first to treat cloth as a dying agent, later to treat food as a seasoning, and even later to treat a great number of maladies. A quick search on the web seems to endow turmeric with the ability to do everything from reducing inflammation to fighting cancer… and it’s pretty tasty, too. If the rumors are true, this is a wonder drug if ever our pantries have seen one!

But while everyone loves a good kitchen-cabinet-to-medicine-cabinet cure-all, we wanted to find out more about this current turmeric craze. Is the herb really that good for us, or should we slow down and proceed on the yellow stuff with caution?

Used in ancient Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory, turmeric is still used today as a curative treatment — and as a preventative measure — for a variety of conditions, from osteoarthritis to cancers, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, migraines, dementia, and many skin problems, like psoriasis and eczema. All the way back in 250 BC, there is documented evidence of turmeric being used to promote a healthy digestive system, to enhance brain function, and balance the effects of skin flora. So perhaps it should come as no surprise that the spice is still spicing things up. But then again, an herb’s historical use doesn’t necessarily prove that is has modern medicinal value.

Numerous more recent studies have shown turmeric to have anti-inflammatory properties — as well as helpfulness in treating osteoarthritis, certain gastrointestinal disorders, and depression — but it should be noted that results are contentious. The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database has reviewed these available scientific studies and concluded that turmeric is “Likely Safe,” and “Possibly Effective” for dyspepsia and osteoarthritis, but that there is “Insufficient Reliable Evidence” to rate its effectiveness in cases involving conditions like Alzheimer’s, colorectal cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, or skin cancer. Additionally, it’s important to understand that turmeric’s cancer curing studies up to this point have only been conducted on animals (mainly rodents), and thus are inconclusive on humans.

Turmeric Miracle Spice or Herbal Myth?

Those that believe in the power of turmeric insist that it can tame heartburn and an upset stomach; it may ward off heart attacks, delay diabetes, protect the brain, and, yes, possibly be the cure for cancer. Whether this is true or not, incorporating a dash of turmeric into your diet isn’t a bad gamble. If you want to add turmeric to your life, but not necessarily your menu, try supplements. Both turmeric and curcumin (the main active component of turmeric) supplements are available. Be sure to pick one that contains piperine, a constituent of black pepper, it helps the body to absorb the turmeric.

That said, adverse side effects can exist. Sprinkling some in your morning tea is totally fine, but taking large amounts for long periods of time may cause an upset stomach and possible ulcers. It is generally agreed that turmeric is safe to eat in foods, but high doses have caused indigestion, nausea, vomiting, reflux, diarrhea, liver problems, and worsening of gallbladder disease. Turmeric can lower your blood sugar level, so be careful if you are diabetic. And the herb can also act as a blood thinner, so be sure to stop taking it two weeks before surgery. Pregnant and breastfeeding women shouldn’t take turmeric supplements (though it is still safe to eat in foods), and supplements (though not generally the edible spice) may alter the effects of some drugs — like decreasing the effects of certain chemotherapy drugs.

In short, consult your doctor before deciding on a turmeric regimen — especially through the use of supplements. This trending ancient remedy may be the stuff of legend… or it just might be the most superior spice we’ve ever seen.

Calvin Harris May Have Agreed to Remix Spice Girls’ ‘2 Become 1’

Cashing in! Calvin Harris once reportedly made an interesting promise to a fan named Filip Odzak, who he met while touring in Australia. Now, five years later, the fan is reaching out to the Scottish DJ, 33, and urging him to make good on his word.

Odzak posted a screenshot on Twitter on Thursday, December 7, of a text message he sent to the Grammy winner reminding him of their encounter. “Hi Calvin, You may not remember me but my name is Filip with an F and we met during the 2012 stereosonic tour in Australia,” he wrote. “During your appliance at Marquee in Sydney, while hanging backstage in the library bar, we made a deal — sealed with a hand shake — that you would remix Spice Girls ‘2 Become 1’ when marriage equality was finally legalized in Australia. Well it just happened today.”

The Australian fashion commentator couldn’t mask his excitement as he urged Harris to fulfill his apparent promise: “For five years I’ve been waiting for this: I’m very excited to hear what you do with the iconic track to celebrate this momentous occasion. A deal is a deal! Sincerely, Flip.”

Odzak also attached a silly selfie of himself posing alongside the “Feels” DJ, who has yet to respond to the tweet.

Fans have taken to the social networking platform to express their support for Odzak’s objective.

“Is it too late to pitch for the Christmas #1 with a song that doesn’t exist yet?” one fan replied.

One supporter replied with a funny gif.

Added another: “This must happen.”

Australia legalized same-sex marriage on Thursday, December 7. “This belongs to us,” Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball said of the news. “This is Australia: fair, diverse, loving and filled with respect. For every one of us this is a great day.”

As for Harris? The “Slide” artist rarely covers other artists’ tracks, but perhaps he’d make an exception!

Pumpkin Spice Makeup Is Fall Personified

Each year, the long-awaited arrival of the pumpkin spice latte heralds the unofficial beginning of fall. (What, you thought that honor went to Labor Day?) But pumpkin spice mania doesn’t just stop at Starbucks. Everything seems to be pumpkin spice-ified this time of year, from a myriad of (sometimes questionable) food products to skin care products that harness the benefits of pumpkin to even pumpkin spice hair color. And, of course, we can’t forget about makeup.

Pumpkin spice is a flattering shade that works on a variety of skin tones and can be applied to cheeks, eyes and lips. Unlike bright orange, pumpkin spice has brown, cinnamon and sometimes copper undertones that make it far more wearable and perfect for fall.

Jimmy Kimmel is taking a stand against pumpkin spice pizza, just so you know

Now that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act is off the table, Jimmy Kimmel has found his new moral stance—pumpkin spice pizza.

While earlier in the week, Kimmel promised his audience that he would “go back to talking about the Kardashians!” after fighting against the Graham-Cassidy health care bill, on Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! the host once again used his monologue to preach about an evil he saw in the world, namely, pumpkin spice pizza. “Is nothing sacred?” complained Kimmel.

The pizza in question comes from Villa Italian Kitchen, the people who brought the world the real pizza bikini that no one wanted. They have done it again with their pizza covered in pumpkin spice, which Kimmel noted were “two things that go together like peanut butter and snow tires.”

“Whether or not you think pumpkin spice is good on pizza, I think we can all agree that pumpkin spice is not good on pizza, okay?” Kimmel said.

Kimmel wasn’t the only late night host to weigh in on the pumpkin spice pizza. Seth Meyers tackled the topic earlier in the week, comparing it to a “linguine mocha.”

Mark Wahlberg Forces Journalists To Reenact Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’ Video Just ‘Cause

Usually it’s the journalists asking things of celebrities, but in this case, Mark Wahlberg turned the tables.

In London for a “Transformers: The Last Knight” press event, Wahlberg recently grouped together some male entertainment writers on the staircase where the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” video was filmed at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

“Sing it live!” the actor orders, after some audio trouble, in a clip posted Saturday by Kevin McCarthy, who reports for a D.C. Fox affiliate. Chris Van Vliet, Andrew Freund, Scott Carty and Xilla Valentine also appear to be doing their best to channel the iconic British girl group.

To see just how well the ragtag boy band nailed it, here’s part of the original with the new footage:

Expect their cover album out never.

”Transformers” hits theaters June 21.

On Thursday, at 3:44 p.m. ET, Ashley Polloway transcended her earthly corporeal Starbucks barista form to become a higher ethereal being composed of pure pumpkin spice.

Fellow employees wished Polloway good luck on her journey, waving somberly at the glowing pumpkin spice cloud as it breezed past the many lingering laptop users and disappeared into the unknown.

“It’s sad,” said co-worker Jeremy Mullen. “She was my ride.”

John Oliver Destroys Pumpkin Spice Lattes, The ‘Coffee That Tastes Like A Candle’

It’s that time of year: Leaves are changing, Halloween decorations are on display, and cable knit sweaters are everywhere. But most importantly, the all-famous Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at your local Starbucks.

And according to John Oliver, everyone’s drinking this “coffee that tastes like a candle” like there’s no tomorrow — and he finds it disgusting.

Americans love their pumpkin products so much that in 2012 they ate just over five pounds of pumpkin per person, Oliver pointed out on a “Last Week Tonight” web exclusive posted Sunday. And the fact there is no actual pumpkin in Pumpkin Spice Lattes doesn’t stop consumers from imbibing.

It’s all a trick, a horrified Oliver says in his rant.

“We tolerate pumpkin spice because we like the Fall,” explains Oliver. “It’s the best season because you get to stop thinking about how weird your legs look in shorts.”

Do you agree with Oliver’s assertion that pumpkin spice is just “eggnog for morning people,” and that we should think of a better Fall-related flavor, preferably one that doesn’t taste like a candle actually tastes? (“Don’t ask me how I know that,” Oliver says.) Let us know in the comments below!
