Idris Elba to Turn Villainous in ‘Fast and Furious’ Spin-off; Here’s Everything We Know

Idris Elba to Turn Villainous in 'Fast and Furious' Spin-off; Here's Everything We Know

Update: In recent years, we've become accustomed to seeing Idris Elba in heroic roles, as in Thor: Ragnarok (above). So it's somewhat surprising to hear that he will portray a villain in the first spin-off from the Fast and Furious series, per Variety.

Elba came to attention as an elegant drug kingpin on HBO's The Wire and since then has impressed in a wide variety of roles. He played a villainous role in Star Trek: Beyond not too long ago, which actually seemed atypical at this…

ABC’s Roseanne Spinoff The Conners Has Divided the Internet

News that ABC is pursuing a spinoff series of Roseanne without the show’s brash and controversial star Roseanne Barr left viewers divided Thursday night, with some praising the network’s handling of the hit series‘ cancellation and others outraged.

A 10-episode series of The Conners, starring actors John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman as their Roseanne characters, will air this fall with no “financial or creative involvement” from Roseanne Barr, ABC said in a statement. Barr’s show was cancelled last month after she tweeted a racist comment directed at former White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.

Some fans applauded the move by ABC, noting that it would prevent some 200 cast and crew members from losing their jobs over Barr’s tweet. But others questioned how the new show could survive without its titular subject, expressing support for Barr with the hashtag #standwithroseanne.

Many speculated about how the star’s absence would be woven into the new show’s plot, with one speculating that she could have been arrested for “illegally selling Tiki Torches,” a reference to props favored in the “Unite the Right” march in Charlottesville, Virginia last year.

New Yorker television critic Emily Nussbaum was tentatively supportive, noting that Roseanne’s absence would permit space for other characters to shine.

Barr will reportedly retain the intellectual rights to her namesake character in the deal, leading one commenter to posit an out-of-the-box crossover theory:

EMPLOYMENT SEARCH UPDATE:

That Roseanne Spinoff Just Got One (Big) Step Closer to Happening

Take heart, Roseanne fans! In the wake of Roseanne Barr’s racist tweets and ABC’s subsequent cancellation of the eponymous sitcom, it seemed as though a spinoff simply wasn’t possible. How can you have Roseanne without, well, Roseanne? The matter was made especially tricky by the fact Barr has a writing credit on the series. But — and it’s a big one — new intel suggests that a spinoff isn’t just possible, it could happen soon.

More: Roseanne Officially Cancelled at ABC Because Tweets Do Have Consequences

Per Deadline, lots of legwork behind-the-scenes has culminated in a promising point: Barr ready to sign off on the potential spinoff. While the terms and conditions of said agreement have not been released, it would reportedly involve Barr receiving a one-time payment from the production company Carsey-Werner. In exchange for that payment, Barr would relinquish her rights to any profits from the spinoff.

In other words, she couldn’t come back at a later date and sue ABC for or Carsey-Berner over the spinoff. The alleged agreement would mean Barr would no longer have any creative or financial rights where the series is concerned.

So where does that leave the potential spinoff? According to Deadline, ABC will have seven days from the time that Barr signs the agreement to decide whether they will pursue a pickup.

Per Roseanne’s own tweet on June 15, one could surmise that the erstwhile actress wants to put this chapter behind her and let her co-stars find success without her.

‘Power’ Spinoff Starring Larenz Tate May Be On The Way

A spin-off of the Starz series Power based on Larenz Tate’s role of a shady councilman is reportedly in the works.

According to The Jasmine Brand, the project “is currently in the works and has not yet been finalized,” and Tate would be “joined by other Power cast members, but their identity or involvement has not yet been revealed.”

50 Cent, an executive producer and star on the series, has yet to confirm or deny the spinoff. Neither has creator/showrunner Courtney A. Kemp nor Tate himself.

Tate’s role of Jamaica, Queens Councilman Rashad Tate was upped from recurring in Season 4 to series regular for the upcoming fifth season, which premieres on July 1 at 9 p.m.

Power follows James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a drug kingpin living a double life who in season 4 sought to find redemption.

‘The Walking Dead’ star Jeffrey Dean Morgan Is Calling For a Negan Spin-Off

With Fear the Walking Dead proving a success – it’s now on Season 4 – it’s perhaps no surprise that Walking Dead bosses are talking about expanding the universe further. One of the major characters to make a big impact on the main show has been villain Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Fans both love to hate and love to love the charismatic bad guy. So the prospect of a spin-off focused on Savior boss Negan is very alluring – and not just to fans. Jeffrey Dean Morgan would love one too.

“I would like to see Negan before the zombie apocalypse,” he told FANDOM while doing publicity for his latest film Rampage. In the movie, Morgan plays a character called Agent Russell, who bears more than a passing resemblance to the Walking Dead bad boy. So much so, in fact, that the actor also discussed the similarities between the two characters, along with the chances that Russell is Negan, and the idea that Rampage could be a prequel to The Walking Dead. You can watch him talking about this here.

More Negan Required

Negan-The-Walking-Dead
Negan was captured by Jadis — and manipulated her into releasing him by tugging on the heartstrings.

“Now, if he’s this guy, Agent Russell, I’d like to see that,” continued Morgan. “But [Walking Dead creator] Robert Kirkman has done a little bit of thought on the Negan pre-zombie apocalypse, and I would be more than happy to see that. I would like to take part in some filming of that. I think that would help explain this character a great deal. Because, unfortunately, the way things go with so many characters and storylines, we don’t see enough — and I think that that is needed, especially when you have a character like Negan.”

The main show has only revealed glimpses, up to now, of Negan’s backstory. And what we’ve learned has been very much according to Negan himself, who is not necessarily a reliable source. Especially when the moments when he’s let details slip have been during periods where he’s been vulnerable. Notably, when marooned in a hut surrounded by walkers with Father Gabriel, and also when tied up by Jadis. He’s certainly been able to manipulate both by spilling some secrets about his past in each instance. So we surely have to take what we’ve learned so far about Negan with a pinch of salt.

Backstory Reveal

The-Walking-Dead-Negan-Gabriel
Negan recounted elements of his backstory to soften Father Gabriel and bend him to his will.

But while Morgan definitely feels Negan’s story could be better explored in his own spin-off series, he did tease that there could be more Negan history revelations to come in The Walking Dead.

“[We’ve had] a little bit more this season, which is nice, but I’d like to see more. I think it’s important not only for the development of the character but I think the show. So we’ll see,” he said.

When FANDOM interviewed show boss Greg Nicotero recently, he told us that he’d love to work on a frozen zombie spin-off – which Morgan would also love to be a part of.

“Why don’t we just go up to Canada or upstate New York where I live? That’d be great,” he said. “I’m sick of shooting in Georgia in the middle of summer. That’s rough. I like the idea of shooting some frozen zombies. That would be cool as hell. Literally and figuratively.”

Rampage is in cinemas now.

EXCLUSIVE: Mark Hamill On What a Luke Skywalker Spin-Off Would Look Like

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker finally meets his maker. Or so it seems. What? We said there were spoilers. So how does it happen? Well, Luke over-exerts himself while projecting his image onto the planet Crait. His plan is to distract Kylo Ren in an effort to help Rey and her fellow band of Resistance fighters escape. Cut to Luke Skywalker’s physical form — which never left the island of Ahch-To — and we see his cape crumple to the rock beneath him as his earthly body dissipates.

A tweet to the Star Wars actor suggesting Luke’s mechanical hand would have clanked down on the rock if this meant he’d died caused Hamill to speculate that, instead, Skywalker actually teleported to a “planet of nudists”. While that’s something every Star Wars fan didn’t know they needed to see, Hamill expanded on a more plausible spin-off idea when chatting to FANDOM recently.

A Religious Leader

“There’s such an interesting period that they skipped over where he had a Jedi academy,” says Hamill. “Because you figure at the end of the last trilogy, what’s next for him?”

The Last Jedi continues straight on after the conclusion of The Force Awakens, which reintroduced Luke to the saga as a hermit living on a remote island. It picks up around 30 years after we last saw Luke reuniting with his father, Obi-Wan and Yoda in the form of Force ghosts at the end of Return of the Jedi.

For Hamill, the broad question of what’s next for Luke begets a series of more specific, probing questions that could be explored in a spin-off centering on this period of the character’s history.

“Does he become like the Pope of the Jedi religion? Is there anybody bigger?” he asks. “Maybe there is. Maybe he has to go and study in a monastery.”

Back to Tatooine

While we learned snippets about this interim period from the two films in the new sequel trilogy, there’s still plenty that hasn’t been broached that Hamill would like to see expanded upon.

“That’s the thing, George [Lucas] created a canvas that is so large, the possibilities are endless,” says Hamill. “I’d like [a spin-off] to focus on Luke helping younger people because they’re our future and you’d like to think that the best things, the positive things, that you learn from Star Wars are aspects like doing what’s right for the greater good, rather than thinking about what helps you. The selflessness involved, I like that. And I’d like to think that it has a positive influence on kids.”

Hamill thinks it would be difficult, though not impossible, to create another adventure for Luke on his home planet of Tatooine, with Luke around the same age as when we meet him in A New Hope.

“People say: ‘Do you think there could be a young Luke Skywalker Movie? I say: ‘There’s already been one. It’s called Star Wars,’” says Hamill. “Because [Luke] was a teenager. The whole point of the first one was he was bored silly on his planet so unless they were able to do a story where they cut to other stories and there’s things going on on his planet that he doesn’t know about, I don’t know how you’d really involve him without it reflecting in the first time you saw him. But, like I say, there’s so many possibilities and so many great writers out there, I’m sure they’ll come up with something.”

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker on his home planet, Tatooine.

Young Luke Frontrunners

So who could play a younger Luke? Hamill ruminates on the qualities of both Bucky Barnes actor Sebastian Stan and young Room and Wonder star Jacob Tremblay.

“People say: ‘Oh, [Sebastian Stan] looks just like you, he looks like your son,’ and I think he’s said he’d love to play [Luke]. I hate to put my thumb on the scales and say he’s got my stamp of approval because I think he’s a wonderful actor, he could probably do anything, but I don’t want to prevent somebody who doesn’t have the notoriety of Sebastian to have his shot at it,” he says.

Stan-Tremblay
Sebastian Stan (left) and Jacob Tremblay (right) have the qualities to play a young Luke Skywalker.

“I also met Jacob Tremblay at The Book of Henry [premiere], and he’s a wonderful little boy and a big Star Wars fan. I just thought he had such composure beyond his years in his little suit. But it depends on what age you want to meet Luke. Because I guess Jacob is only 10 or 11, in that range. So I don’t know.”

He adds, “I wouldn’t presume to know. There’s probably unknowns. I certainly was unknown when I got to play him.”

First things first, though. Let’s just hope we’ll see more from Mark Hamill in the role when Episode IX hits screens next year.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on Blu-ray and DVD in the US on March 27 and available via Digital Download now. In the UK you can get your hands on the film on all formats from April 9.

A live-action spinoff movie centered around the two sleuths is in the works from Jennifer and Ashley Tisdale’s production company.

via Variety:

“Daphne and Velma” is being produced by the Tisdale sisters’ Blondie Girl Productions and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Blue Ribbon Content digital studio. Sarah Jeffery (“Shades of Blue”) and Sarah Gilman (“Last Man Standing”) star in the title roles as Daphne and Velma, respectively.

Harley Quinn & Joker Spinoff Movie Is Happening

This week has proven that the DC cinematic universe is hard at work trying to catch up to the multi-billion dollar monster that’s the Marvel cinematic universe. Now it seems like the much talked about Harley Quinn solo movie has finally found its writers.

Deadline is reporting that John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are in serious talks to write, produce and direct that Suicide Squad spinoff film that’s set to star Margot Robbie as the title character and feature Jared Leto reprising his role as the clown prince of crime, The Joker.

The news comes just days after it was reported that film legend Martin Scorsese was set to produce an origin story film about The Joker with yet another actor set to take on the role of Batman’s greatest villain. Call us crazy but this seems like DC once again stepping on their own toes and tripping themselves up during the race for comic book cinematic dominance.

Lord knows that if it wasn’t for Wonder Woman the DCEU would have little to no credibility.

After clanking it big time with Batman v. Superman and air-balling their next attempt in Suicide Squad, DC has given themselves little to no room for error.

Now with rumors that Avengers director Joss Whedon is working hard on salvaging Zack Snyder’s “unwatchable” rough cut of the highly anticipated Justice League with reshoots and re-writes, we’re not sure what to expect from future DCEU installments.

Let’s hope they figure it out before most of their future projects become Netflix exclusives.

Calling all OG “That’s So Raven” fans, the spinoff is getting a throwback episode

And we just found out that there’s going to be a throwback episode of Raven’s Home that OG That’s So Raven fans will surely love.

Prepare to happy dance, like Raven herself!

That’s So Raven ended in 2007, but 10 years later — it’s back! Sorta. Raven’s Home already gives fans of That’s So Raven a taste of what they’ve been missing since the show went off the air. And in a recent interview with TVLine, Raven said there’s more to come for fans of the original.

There won’t be flashbacks, but there will be a throwback episode.

“I was talking to the writers, and I was like, ‘This is our chance to really touch on certain things and bring back characters and ideas in a different way. We can use people’s memories to make a situation better.’”

Curious as to who could be coming back for a visit? Raven has some ideas:

“You’ve got the Boyz N Motion, you have [Raven’s parents] Victor and Tanya, that crazy psychic community she met that one time, all the teachers — so many people.”

Sounds like we can expect plenty of familiar faces in the future, even if we can’t see it ourselves. Raven’s Home currently airs on Disney Channel and is the perfect cure to any bad mood. Because, more Raven in our lives — old and new — is always a good thing!
