Here’s What Happens in the Ant-Man and the Wasp Post-Credits Scenes

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War.

Post-credits scenes are Marvel Studio’s way of teasing what will happen next in upcoming Marvel movies. And while Ant-Man and the Wasp may be Marvel’s tiniest heroes, the Ant-Man and the Wasp end-credits scene is probably the cinematic universe’s most anticipated in years.

Fans have been yearning for any information about the future of the franchise after the devastating Avengers: Infinity War premiered earlier this summer. At the end of that movie, baddie Thanos snapped his fingers and destroyed half of all life in the universe. That means that half our heroes disintegrated and disappeared. Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first Marvel movie to hit theaters after that massive cliffhanger as well as the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene, which hinted at the long-awaited arrival of a certain superhero.

Most of Ant-Man and the Wasp takes place before the events of Infinity War. But the Ant-Man and the Wasp end-credits scene does take place at the same time as Infinity War and answers the question of where Ant-Man was during the battle against Thanos — if not questions about how the Avengers plan to bring back their fallen compatriots.

Scene 1: Ant-Man is stuck in the Quantum Realm

We find out during the movie that Scott Lang (a.k.a. Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd) was under house arrest following his violation of the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War. (He took the deal to be with his daughter, while Captain America, Black Widow and the rest of that crew remain on the lam.)

But he’s released from house arrest at the end of the movie and free to participate in experiments with his girlfriend Hope (Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp), her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and her mother Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), recently saved from the Quantum Realm. In the first post-credits scene, the trio sends Scott into the Quantum Realm in order to recover some data.

But while Scott is shrunk in miniature, Thanos destroys half of all life in the universe. The audience watches Hope, Hank and Janet float away. Scott, meanwhile, is stuck in the Quantum Realm.

Scene 2: The Ant on the Drums

Marvel often ends its movies with a comic teaser. Don’t expect this one to give you any information about Thanos or even how Scott will escape the Quantum realm without Hope and her parents to help him.

In the second post-credits scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp, a gigantic ant who has been wearing Scott’s ankle bracelet while he sneaks out on adventures with Hope throughout the movie, plays the drums in Scott’s house.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Director on the ‘Shocking’ Backlash to Marvel’s First Female Superhero Lead

Photo Illustration by Sarah Rogers/The Daily Beast

When Peyton Reed inherited the mantle of Ant-Man director from Edgar Wright, who left midway through the Marvel caper he’d scripted about a hero who shrinks to fantastical bug-sized proportions, the idea of the Quantum Realm had not yet touched paper. It was Reed and co-writer Adam McKay who thought to create for the screen a version of the alternate dimension where human concepts of space and time become irrelevant, opening a Pandora’s Box of reality-bending possibilities.

Now, three years and one cataclysmic shift in the Marvel Cinematic Universe later, their idea may hold the key to reversing the cruelest events of Avengers: Infinity War—or so heartbroken fans might hope.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, Reed’s sunny sequel to his 2015 superhero-origin-heist-story starring Paul Rudd, comes on the heels of the darkest entry in the Marvel canon yet. Thanos, that purple menace now armed with all-powerful abilities, has decimated the Avengers and pulverized half the universe, including marquee heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and the Guardians of the Galaxy (minus poor Rocket).

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Post-Credits Scenes Explained

SPOILER ALERT: Warning, this article contains major spoilers from Ant-Man and the Wasp post-credits scenes. Proceed at your own risk.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to be released after Avengers: Infinity War. Like all other MCU films, it contains post-credits scenes that provide glimpses into the future of the franchise.

This article focuses on the first post-credits scene, which drops hints at the yet untitled Avengers 4.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the title characters team up to rescue Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and the mother of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly).

Ant-Man and the Wasp Hope van Dyne Hank Pym
Hope and Hank learn Janet may still be alive in the Quantum Realm.

Janet has been trapped in the Quantum Realm for three decades, after sacrificing herself to stop a Soviet nuke during a Cold War mission. With the aid of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Janet’s is successfully reunited with her family.

During her years trapped in the Quantum Realm, Janet learned many of its mysteries, including its powers of restoration. “This place, it changes you,” Janet explains. “Part of it is evolution.”

She uses her superhuman abilities to heal Ghost, a woman stuck in a state of molecular disequilibrium after being exposed to quantum energy.

At the end of the movie, Ant-Man embarks on the mission back to the realm via a quantum tunnel built in the back of Luis’ van. Hank, Janet, and Hope help Scott navigate from a station next to the van.

Scott goes subatomic and begins to collect quantum healing particles for Ghost, when communication cuts out. Cut to the real world, where fans see three pillars of dust disintegrating in the wind. The entire Pym-Van Dyne family falls victim to Thanos’ snap, which wipes out half of the living beings in the universe.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantum Realm
Janet warns Scott of the tardigrades … and time vortexes.

As a result, Scott is trapped in the Quantum Realm … with no means of returning.

But all is not lost. Right before she disappears, Janet warns Scott about the time vortexes. What she meant as a warning, may actually end up saving him. We know that Ant-Man will be in Avengers 4, as production photos reveal Ant-Man alongside the team during the Battle of New York depicted in Avengers. Will Scott use the time vortexes in the Quantum Realm to find the Avengers in the past? Fans will find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.

The second post-credit is little more than a visual gag, with a giant ant playing Scott’s drums in his San Francisco home.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is currently in theaters.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ showcases Marvel’s lighter side

Tilted in a big way toward comedy, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” offers Marvel an opportunity to show off its lighter side, after the operatic grandeur of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Black Panther.” It is also, on most levels, less appealing than its predecessor, a generally fun movie that doesn’t possess much bite.

Just as rave reactions are coming out of the premiere of Black Panther, another upcoming Marvel movie has just debuted its first trailer. Ant-Man and the Wasp is the follow-up to 2015's Ant-Man (with some residue from the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, as well) and promotes Evangeline Lily's character to full superhero status, herself.

This first spot reminds us of what we love about the previous movie, a combination of humor, action and humorous action (a…

‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’ Trailer: The Villain Revealed and More

Black Panther is due in theaters in two weeks, Avengers: Infinity War is due in just three months, and Marvel’s third film due this year, Ant-Man and The Wasp, is just beginning to gear up. The ant-sized film made a big splash today by uploading its first teaser trailer.

The trailer featured the film’s returning cast Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michael Peña, as well as some newer actors the Marvel universe, like The Matrix legend, Laurence Fishburne. The trailer featured a flashback to Captain America: Civil War, some epic car chase scenes, and a look at Hope’s new superhero identity: the Wasp. Let’s break down some of the trailers coolest moments.

The Wasp Suits Up

Ant Man and The Wasp

Hope van Dyne made her first appearance in Ant-Man, as Hank Pym’s daughter. While she was fully capable of wearing the Ant-Man suit and controlling the ants, her father wanted to keep her safe, thus he hired Scott Lang to wear it. At the end of the film, Hank presented Hope with her very own suit to which Hope appropriately said, “It’s about damn time.”

In this trailer, Hope is completely suited up. She has wings, she has blasters, she has the suit every girl dreams of. Scott is dreaming of her suit too, because it’s superior to his in design. The trailer opens up with Scott asking Hope a very specific question: “When Cap needed help, if I had asked you, would you have come?” This question clearly shows that the film is not going to shy away from Hope’s absence in Captain America: Civil War.

Giant Man Returns

Ant Man and The Wasp

As the trailer continues, it reveals that Scott is in trouble, again. He’s under FBI house arrest, which puts the Pyms in danger. Hank shrinks his old office down and they all go on the run. They don’t go too far though, as San Francisco can be seen in the background of this shot of Giant Man. Something will cause Scott and Hope to suit up, something that requires the return of Giant Man.

Giant Man — Scott’s Ant-Man suit when it’s been super-sized — made it’s first Marvel Cinematic debut in Captain America: Civil War, during the epic airport battle. Scott super-sized himself to help Cap and Bucky escape Tony Stark and the Avengers at the Berlin Airport. Spider-Man had fun taking him down by re-enacting the scene from Empire Strikes Back. It would appear that the skills and size of Giant Man will be needed in this film as well.

The Villain Materializes

Ant Man and The Wasp

The trailer also features unique looks at the film’s villain, Ghost. In the comics, Ghost was a super hacker, hired by the Roxxon Corporation to sabotage Tony Stark. The comic book version of Ghost could also dematerialize, become invisible and interface with all kinds of technology.

In the trailer, Ghost’s hand comes in and out of focus. When we see Ghost again, she’s fully suited up, as you can see in the image above. The film’s Ghost is played by actress Hannah John-Kamen, who can also be seen this year in Tomb Raider and Ready Player One. There’s also a shot in the trailer of Laurence Fishburn’s character Bill Foster in Ghost’s chambers. Perhaps he helps create Ghost’s phasing ability?

The Quantum Realm Returns

Ant Man and The Wasp

The trailer also features a curious looking ship. The ship, which can be seen above, is likely a rescue pod for the quantum realm. That only means one thing: Hank, Hope and Scott are going to try to save Hope’s mom, Janet van Dyne! We already know that Michelle Pfeiffer is playing Janet and now we’re sure she’s going to be rescued!

Oh, and if you thought you recognized the song in the trailer, you did! As one Twitter user pointed out, the song is “Ant’s Invasion” by Adam and the Ants.

Ant-Man and The Wasp hits theaters on July 6, 2018.
