If the love of your life has just popped the question – well, we’re pretty darn jealous. Ahem, we mean… Congratulations! The idea of spending the rest of your life is probably filling your socks with so much joy right now you don’t really know where to turn, and the idea of planning a wedding is something you just don’t want to think about. We get it; it’s stressful. It’s even more stressful if you live in a country where the sun rarely makes an appearance. If you want beauty and guaranteed sun for your big day, check out these best locations for a destination wedding…

Italy

Italy is one of the most romantic destinations on the planet, and although Romeo & Juliet didn’t exactly work out, they are still considered the patrons of love – so that’s gotta stand for something, right? More and more couples are choosing to have their big day in Italy because the country is so diverse. There are bustling cities with some of the greatest hotels, there are beautiful vineyards with space for your aisle, and there are even incredible beaches for you and your guests to get your feet sandy. If you need any more persuading, just think of all the fresh and fancy wine you could drink.

Greece

If you and your betrothed love a bit of culture in your life, Greece should definitely be added to your list of possible wedding destinations. Although they may be a little behind the times in terms of technology and modern traditions, that’s exactly what some couples want from their big day. Good food, authentic music, and people who generally just want to enjoy your day and the beautiful surroundings that Greece has to offer. From the whitewashed buildings to the views of the ocean and the Greek people who are more than willing to stuff money into your wedding dress, absolutely nothing could go wrong.

The Maldives

If you haven’t Googled what the Maldives looks like yet, you should probably do that ASAP. However, youa might want to sit down before you do it because your legs are guaranteed to go all wobbly. With little else but the sea and sand around you, the Maldives is the perfect wedding choice if you want something utterly breathtaking and private. You can stay in a lodge overlooking the ocean, get hitched on the beach, and spend the next few days in paradise with your new husband or wife. I mean, do you need any more reasons?

Hawaii

Hawaii is the kind of place that is on everyone’s dream bucket list, so why not turn your dream vacation into your dream wedding? With tropical beaches and forests, Hawaii has everything you could want for a romantic and beautiful wedding day. If you live in the US, this could also be the perfect alternative for you if you don’t want to fly too far away and don’t want to shell out the ridiculous airfare for your guests. Get married on the beach and finish off your reception with a luau – because there are leis for everyone!

If you’re looking at wedding venues in your home country and wondering when something will wow you away, it might be best just to give up your search and look for something that is a bit further afield. Luckily, there are so many romantic wedding destinations to choose from – the hardest decision you will make is choosing which one is ‘the one.’

Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson Are Married: ‘Our Wedding Day Was Absolutely Perfect!’

Josiah Duggar is a married man!

The Counting On star wed Lauren Swanson on Saturday at John Brown University Cathedral of the Ozarks in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

“What a joy it is to be husband and wife!” the couple exclusively tells PEOPLE of the special Duggar family celebration. “Our wedding day was absolutely perfect!”

Added Duggar, “What was even more perfect was to see my beautiful bride walking down the aisle. We are so thankful the Lord has brought us to this place and we can’t wait to begin our journey as husband and wife!”

For their special day, the bride chose a wedding gown from The White Dress Boutique, while her eight bridesmaids wore blush-colored dresses handmade by Jana Duggar and Josh Duggar’s wife Anna.

The ceremony was officiated by Lauren’s father Dwain Swanson, and the romantic theme incorporated flowers, wood and iron. For their wedding colors, the couple chose a combination of grey and blue, pink and olive, plus green and white.

At the reception, guests enjoyed cupcakes, a candy bar and a strawberry shortcake-flavored, heart-shaped wedding cake.

Before saying “I do,” the pair hosted a “summer-style” indoor cookout rehearsal dinner with burgers, hot dogs and sides on the menu.

The newlyweds first announced they were courting in January and got engaged just two months later.

“We are overjoyed to begin this new phase of our lives together,” Josiah told PEOPLE in January. “Through the years our families’ friendship has allowed us to get to know one another as friends. I can definitely say I have found a great friend … even better than I could have hoped for or imagined.”

He continued: “I so appreciate Lauren’s Christlike character and tender heart toward others. She bring sunshine into the room and encourages everyone around her. It’s always stood out to me that in every situation, she looks for the one who appears to be sad or lonely and quickly can brighten their day by sharing words of hope, an encouraging scripture, a prayer or even a simple smile with them.”

Lauren is the eldest of eight children and has been a family friend of the Duggars for years, even making an appearance on an episode of 19 Kids and Counting.

TLC’s Counting On returns Monday, July 30 at 9/8c.

Royal Wedding trip guide (for people not from the UK)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll know that there is a pretty special event coming up. No, it’s not your yearly vacation or your birthday (although that is kinda important), it’s the royal wedding! Sure, were pretty upset that Prince Harry will finally be off the market, but we can’t wait to see the dress that Meghan Markle wears on the big day. As these two lovebirds exchange their nuptials, you can guarantee that people from around the world will descend onto London to share the excitement. So, it’s probably best you know where you’re going and what you’re doing…

Where to stay

Because the royal wedding is kind of a big deal, there will be thousands of people making their way into London in the run-up to the main event, and they will all be looking for somewhere to stay. Most tourists will try to stay as close to the center of London or Windsor as they could possibly be – which means it’s best to avoid it. It’s best to stay clear of these two hotspots and venture into the outskirts of London. This way, you can find the hotels that haven’t already been booked up, and those that are a little cheaper.

How to get around

It doesn’t matter if you’re two or ten miles away from London, you’re still going to be able to get around. England has one of the best train and underground systems in the world – and it’s super easy to use! You can buy yourself an Oyster Card (no, it doesn’t taste like oysters) and make your way around London and the surroundings as you hop on and off the public transport. You can either take yourself off to a traditional English pub to watch the events unfold with a glass of Pimms in your hand, or you could stand outside Buckingham Palace and join the hubbub of people all celebrating the marriage.

Where to go

For one day only, the pubs in and around England are staying open extra late to celebrate Harry and Meghan, which means it’s the perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss is all about and try your very first bite of bangers and mash. Although almost every single pub in the UK will be showing the wedding on their television screens, you might also want to check out the other celebrations that are on offer. If you fancy rubbing shoulders with the married couple themselves on the day, you can make your way to Madame Tussauds, where you can see the new waxwork figures of Meghan and Harry as they are unveiled! Once you’re done, make your way to one of the many open-top bus tours in London and Windsor to see the celebrations from above and take some epic pictures. If you’re lucky, you might even stumble upon a British street party, where you can hang with the locals and wear a union jack around your neck. You know you want to.

If you’re going to the UK to witness the royal wedding in all of its glory, you’re going to need a little help – because you’re not the only ones. The best way to get the ultimate royal experience is to plan in advance. Book your flights, book your hotel, and plan where you want to go and what you want to do before you leave! Trust us; you’ll thank us for it after…

Wedding Deejay Arrested for the Brutal 1992 Rape and Murder of School Teacher Christy Mirack

Pennsylvania police made an arrest in the death of school teacher Christy Mirack 25 years after her murder.

Raymond “DJ Freez” Rowe, 49, was arrested on Monday afternoon at his home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and was charged with criminal homicide.

Mirack was 25 years old and a sixth-grade teacher at Rohrerstown Elementary School. She was found dead in her home on December 21, 1992. Her death rocked her community and has remained a cold case for over two decades.

“The killer was at liberty for this brutal crime longer than Christy Mirack was on this earth alive. His apprehension was long overdue,” Lancaster District Attorney Craig Stedman told reporters at a press conference Monday.

Mirack was found dead in her home by the principal of her school who went to her home as he was concerned when she did not show up for work.

According to the District Attorney, the young teacher has been sexually assaulted, her clothes were pushed down from her waist, her shirt pushed up and it was clear a struggle had taken place.

Mirack was wearing her jacket and gloves and that, combined with scuff marks, led authorities to believe she had been dragged back into the home, Stedman said.

Mirack was strangled to death but she sustained a “brutal beating” to the point her “face was distorted,” he added.

At the time, authorities took a DNA sample from her body and the carpet underneath the body, which had fluids from the alleged attacker.

For years authorities did not find a match to that DNA. But, according to Stedman, that changed when the DNA sample was matched to a relative of Rowe who had uploaded their DNA to a database on genealogy website GEDmatch – the same site which was involved in the Golden State Killer’s arrest.

However, that alone was not enough for an arrest, so the deejay was put under surveillance. In late May, undercover investigators collected used chewing gum and a water bottle they claim Rowe used while working as a deejay at an event at a school, Steadman said at the press conference.

• Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.

Police concluded the DNA found in the gum and bottle were a match to the DNA taken from the scene, he added.

Stedman also said Rowe “was not on our radar” as the alleged killer before his arrest.

Rowe works as a deejay predominately at weddings, school proms and has even worked at charity events raising money to help female victims of violence.

However, he also claims to have worked as a deejay for celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Brooke Hogan, as well as at events featuring Sting, The Eagles and Kenny Kravitz, according to his website.

Rowe is currently being held in Lancaster County Prison and is not eligible for bail.

This isn’t the first time an arrest in a cold case was made after DNA was submitted to a genealogy site. California police arrested former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo for crimes he committed as the notorious Golden State Killer in April.

A police source told PEOPLE at the time that DeAngelo was caught through “sophisticated” DNA analysis, but said he was not on the radar of police. At the press conference, police said DeAngelo was linked to DNA evidence six days before his arrest.

Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said that authorities surveilled DeAngelo and recovered “discarded DNA” that allegedly confirmed the suspect’s connection to the killings.

You probably shouldn’t wear these 7 things as a wedding guest this summer

You probably shouldn’t wear these 7 things as a wedding guest this summer

You probably shouldn’t wear these 7 things as a wedding guest this summer

If you’re dreading purchasing another dress to wear to your eighth wedding this summer, we get you—wedding season is a lot to handle. There’s no shame in re-wearing outfits from one event to another, and you can pretty much wear any dress of your choosing so long that it is appropriate for a wedding. That last part is important, because there are a number of different outfit mishaps that often occur at weddings, the pros say. To ensure you don’t make a fashion misstep, we chatted with four stylists to find out what you should or maybe shouldn’t wear as a guest this summer. Here are their best suggestions on what to avoid.

Anything that even resembles white.

You know the drill—the bride should be the only one wearing white at the wedding. This includes every color that could potentially be considered in the white family, such as cream, bone, ivory, beige, and off-white. The one and only exception to this rule is if the bride and groom are having a “white-themed wedding” and request that their guests wear the hue. Still, even in this case, Ali Levine, celebrity stylist, fashion expert, and TV personality, warns guests never to wear anything that looks like a wedding dress.

Denim anything.

If you’re thinking of pulling a throwback to that iconic Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake denim moment, don’t. “Save your jeans for the backyard BBQ! Jeans are not welcome at a wedding no matter how casual it is,” says Toni Ferrara, a celebrity stylist who’s dressed Kim Kardashian, Matthew McConaughey, and Kate Beckinsale. “It’s just not a fabric that is meant to have a wedding moment.” Make sure your date knows this, too.

Anything too revealing.

Style experts agree that all eyes should be on the bride. “Drawing attention to you in a ‘sexual’ way is disrespectful in my opinion,” says Rayne Parvis, a certified Style Coach, personal stylist, media personality and author of Ultimate Guide to Style: From Drab to Fab!. She recommends staying away from anything too tight, that reveals too much cleavage, or with a completely open back. “A great rule of thumb is to accentuate one body part in a respectful way, not all three; cleavage, legs, and back,” she adds. Mayes agrees, adding, “Not only will your outfit be frowned upon, but you just may fall right out of that extremely plunging neckline.”

Out-of-season hues.

Levine recommends wearing colors that are in-line with the summer season, so keep your orange-, auburn- and maroon-colored gowns in the closet until fall and winter. “Certain colors, fabrics, and aesthetics tell us it’s summer and makes us feel a certain way about that season,” she says. “Do not show up wearing fall colors and heavy fabrics in June, July, or August.”

A dress that matches the wedding colors.

Unless you’re in the wedding party, Parvis warns against intentionally wearing colors to match. “If you’re not a bridesmaid and you show up dazzling in the same color, it will appear you’re trying to be part of the wedding party versus a guest,” she says. “You’ll get questions and confusing looks.”

An oversized hat.

Sure, you hate it when the sun’s in your eyes, but that’s what sunglasses are for. Leave your oversized hats out of the equation when it comes to selecting your wedding attire. “Excessively large hats may block the view of the other guests, especially if you are seated in the front row,” says Ty-Ron Mayes, a celebrity stylist who appeared on America’s Next Top Model. “If you do not want to wear a smaller hat, consider a fascinator. Your sense of style and appropriateness will be well received.”

Anything too casual.

It might be hot, or even a beach-themed wedding, but leave your poolside attire where it belongs. “Unless the bride and groom tells you in the invitation to bring a change of casual clothing, or that it is a casual affair, stay nicely dressed,” says Levine. The same goes for your shoes. “Leave sandals at home—even if they’re beautiful.”

Shaunie O’Neal Says She Will NOT Be Attending Gloria Govan and Derek Fisher’s Wedding [Video]

Shaunie O’Neal has enough drama in her life with the return of VH1’s Basketball Wives, and it looks like she’ll be saving herself from any extra drama by skipping Gloria Govan & Derek Fisher’s wedding.

via TMZ:

Derek & Shaq won 3 rings together as Lakers and were tight bros, so one might assume Shaunie could possibly want to attend the nuptials.

Hell no. We got Shaunie at LAX and asked her if she plans on attending, and if the words out of her mouth didn’t tell the whole story, the look on her face CLEARLY did.

“No, I don’t so. No, I don’t think I’ll be going to that.”

If you didn’t know, the ladies have deep issues, stemming from Shaunie’s belief that Gloria’s sister, Laura, was messing around with Shaq while Shaunie was married to the Diesel.

It led to a HUGE blowup on a past episode of ‘Basketball Wives’ where Shaunie confronted Gloria … and it’s clear the whole thing isn’t water under the bridge.

We’re not sure whether it’ll be chicken or fish at the wedding … but, in this case … it’s clearly beef.

Check out the video below.

The Hills Star Brody Jenner Marries Kaitlynn Carter! Inside Their Destination Wedding

Brody Jenner wed longtime girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter in a stunning ocean-view ceremony Saturday on the exotic island of Nihi Sumba, off the coast of Indonesia, PEOPLE can exclusively confirm.

Jenner’s brother Brandon and mom Linda Thompson looked on as the former Hills star exchanged vows with his influencer fiancée.

The ceremony and reception culminated four days of festivities on the breathtaking isle, including horse races on the beach and a white party where the intimate guest list of 50 close friends and family danced the night away.

“We’re just excited to celebrate spending the rest of our lives together,” Jenner told PEOPLE just weeks before the big day. “I can’t wait to marry Kaitlynn.”

Jenner, 34, and Carter, 29, met at a party in 2013 and the connection was immediate. “I was going after her,” Jenner said. “She’s an amazing girl.”

Added Carter: “He was really honest about what he wanted, no messing around, and I found that really charming and refreshing. Pretty soon after we started dating, I thought it could be for life.”

Carter moved in soon after, and in 2016, Jenner proposed at the same resort on Nihi Sumba where they would eventually wed.

“I’m glad we took our time to get to know each other,” said Carter of the long engagement. “We know for sure that we can work through things and that we want to be together.”

Now, the new Mr. and Mrs. will head to a romantic honeymoon — and are looking forward to life as it was, with a special twist.

“I’m looking forward to living the rest of my life with Kaitlynn,” Jenner said. “Hopefully not too much changes. But having the ring and the commitment, that’s really exciting.”

8 wedding dress shopping hacks for the bride who has no time to waste

8 wedding dress shopping hacks for the bride who has no time to waste

Shopping for your wedding dress is an exciting and overwhelming experience. After all, your this gown will likely be the most important (and expensive!) item of clothing you’ll ever wear. For a successful and stress-free shopping experience, keep these ten things in mind during your time at the bridal salon.

1. Never stray from your budget.

While shopping for a wedding dress, you may fall in love with a drop-dead gorgeous gown before realizing it’s outside of your price range. Prevent potential heartbreak by trying on gowns that fall safely within your budget, and never test elaborate designer dresses “just for fun.” Also, keep in mind that budgets include more than your wedding dress; brides also need to shell out money for alterations, taxes, and accessories.

2. Don’t get sucked in by deals.

Never buy a discounted gown simply for the deal. While a reduced-rate designer piece may seem irresistible, it’s best to find a gown you truly love—even if it doesn’t have a widely-recognized label.

3. Dresses look different on the hanger.

Your consultant may suggest trying on a gown that looks shapeless and frumpy on the hanger, but don’t shrug it off immediately. Many dresses undergo a complete transformation once on the body. You may adore a dress you normally wouldn’t give a second glance.

4. Love your gown from all angles.

Thanks to a constant flash of cameras on your big day, the dress you choose will be photographed from every imaginable angle. Take advantage of the large salon mirrors and ensure you love the dress from the front, back, and both sides. Consider having your entourage take photos from a distance as well, in order to predict how the dress will look in your photo album.

5. Test out the gown’s comfort.

You’ll have to sit, stand, walk, and dance on your wedding day. At the salon, take the gown on a test run to ensure it’ll stay comfortably fitted throughout these various activities. No woman wants to wear something that restricts her ability to bust a move!

6. Happy tears won’t always happen.

On reality shows, the bride-to-be often breaks down in happy tears after discovering her dream dress. In real life, however, many brides won’t have this “aha!” moment. Think twice before letting the lack of emotion alter your decision; if you truly love a gown, and if you can purchase it without regrets, you may have found your perfect match.

7. It’s okay to second-guess your decision.

Shopping for a wedding dress comes with an insane amount of pressure. Brides have a limited amount of time to locate a dress that falls within budget, matches the wedding aesthetic, and pleases herself and her entourage. Given all of the stress, a bride may second guess her choice of gown immediately after leaving the salon. Rest assured that this is normal, and the feeling will likely pass as your big day draws near.

8. Focus on your happiness.

Perhaps the most important piece of advice: Choose a dress that you love. Your entourage and consultant will have their own opinions on each wedding gown, and it’s nearly impossible to please everyone. To avoid feelings of regret and resentment, always follow your heart, and choose the dress that makes you happiest.

Here’s how Prince George comforted a crying bridesmaid at the royal wedding

Adorable.

prince george

Prince George really stepped up to the plate on the day of the royal wedding, going beyond his duties as a royal page boy to deal with a crisis outside the chapel.

In an episode of their royals-focused podcast, On Heir, Emily Andrews and Omid Scobie have shared a heartwarming story of how the little prince comforted one of the bridesmaids ahead of the ceremony.

‘Poor Zalie Warren had a bit of a meltdown,’ Andrews said. ‘She’s only two. She started crying when they were waiting for Meghan. It was only a couple of minutes.

‘So Nanny Maria Borrallo kind of looked after her, and George apparently was trying to comfort her as well, which is very sweet.’

Bless him!

George and Charlotte’s nanny, Maria Teresa Turion Borrallo, was on hand on the day to help manage the 10 bridesmaids and page boys, who all posed for official photographs after the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte also took on a more organisational role when it came to herding up the bridesmaids.

‘There was one [bridesmaid] who wanted to go and she said, “no, you can’t go yet, we have to wait until we are asked,”‘ one wedding guest told People. ‘She was very organised!’

Looks like George and Charlotte have been taught well when it comes to handling public appearances.

Five Prominent But Lesser-Known Black Dignitaries At Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding

The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and now, Meghan Markle, Dutchess of Sussex, had the world’s attention over the weekend. For about 15 minutes, The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry’s impassioned speech on love captivated hearts, too. Even more talked about were some of the black celebrities in attendance, such as Oprah Winfrey, Idris Elba, and Serena Williams.

Also in attendance were some high-ranking black notables who work in different sectors of British and American societies:

Rose Hudson-Wilkin

For years, Hudson-Wilkin had been tipped to be in the first cohort of women to become bishops in the Church of England. Since 2014, the 64-year-old priest has been Priest-in-Charge of St Mary-at-Hill, City of London. She also holds the roles of Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons, priest vicar at Westminster Abbey, and the first black female chaplain to the queen. She was previously vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Dalston and All Saints Church in Haggerston.

Colleen Harris

Harris held a senior communications position in the Prime Minister’s Office before being appointed Press Secretary to the Prince of Wales. She handled the media for the prince during some of the most turbulent years, and also media-managed the emergence of Princes William and Harry into the public eye. Her career has included senior posts in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Office, as well as in non-departmental public bodies. She has worked in Britain and abroad as a consultant with private companies, non-profit organizations and U.N agencies, including the World Health Organization.

Bishop Michael Curry

Michael Curry made history in 2015 after his installation as the Episcopal Church’s presiding bishop over its 1.8 million members—becoming the denomination’s first African American spiritual leader. Having been on the job for less than a year, Curry took a public stance supporting gay marriage, a move that earned the Episcopal Church a three-year sanction by the Anglican Communion. Anglican leaders then stripped the Episcopal Church of any role in deciding doctrine or determining how the Anglican Communion operates for three years. Curry was born in 1953 in Chicago to Dorothy Curry and Rev. Kenneth Curry, who was a Baptist before becoming an Episcopalian priest. He said his father became part of the church after he and his mother had been allowed to drink from the same chalice being passed among white parishioners in racially segregated Ohio. Bishop Curry became the talk of social media with his heartfelt sermon at the royal wedding.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason

Along with an orchestra made up of instrumentalists from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, Sheku Kanneh-Mason played three songs during the couple’s Signing of the Register. At just 19, Kanneh-Mason is the first black cellist or musician to ever win BBC’s Young Musician of the Year award in its 38-year history. He reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2015, and he was a member of the Chineke! Orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe that is made up of mainly musicians of color. His sister Isata, and brother Braimah are also members.

Tessy Ojo

Tessy Ojo is the Chief Executive Officer of the Diana Awards, the only charity that bears the name of the late Princess Diana of Wales. Established in 1999 to recognize young people for extraordinary work in their local communities, the charity benefits from the support of The Royal Highness, Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as the UK Prime Minister. Ojo is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a member of the Institute of Directors. She was awarded The Precious Award, Inspiring Leader in 2015, Women in Business Rising Star, and Excellence Award from Eva Longoria’s Global Gift Foundation. Prior to joining the Diana Award, Ojo worked in the corporate sector for over 10 years and helped implement the operational planning systems for IBM UK and Borders UK. Along with her role at Diana Awards, Ojo is on the boards of two charities and sits on the governing board of a chain of academies in London.

How the Royal Wedding is Fighting Period Poverty

Last month, following in the footsteps of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—Prince William and Kate Middleton, whose 2011 nuptials raised $ 1.7 million for 21 organizations across the U.K.—Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced seven organizations that they hoped members of the public and guests would donate to in lieu of purchasing them a gift. Among them was the Myna Mahila foundation, a Mumbai based non-profit that helps to distribute affordable menstrual hygiene products to women in the city’s slums.

“It’s unusual [to have someone from the royal family supporting a charity like this] if you look at the royals broadly.” Arianne Chernock, an associate professor of history at Boston University whose research focuses on gender, culture and the British monarchy, told Ms. “But if you look at this generation, specifically, William and Harry and Meghan and Kate, it doesn’t seem that unusual. They’ve already begun to push the envelope in terms of the kinds of causes that they’re advocating and directly supporting. We’ve seen that around mental health [and] support for gay youth.”

Britain has also seen its own growing menstrual equity movement. “I think in [the United States] there…isn’t as much discussion around period poverty as there is in Britain,” Chernock says, pointing out that recent years have seen women in Britain take up highly visible protests against the tampon tax, free bleeding in white pants in front of Parliament in London. “There have been a number of headlines in recent years, some really shocking headlines that were published fairly recently, about the number of women who are dealing with period poverty. I think it’s on Britain’s mind.”

It’s also long been on Markle’s mind. “If you look at her advocacy, this is clearly an issue she cares about,” Chernock noted, adding that Markle’s passion is reminiscent of the legacy of another much-beloved social justice-oriented royal. “This kind of work really feeds on [the kind of work] Princess Diana was doing. We sometimes forget just how much she helped change the public conversation about AIDS by being willing to shake hands with early AIDS victims. She showed that the royal family could really help change the public dialogue and channel goodwill towards really important causes.”

As an 11-year old in 1993, Markle wrote to former First Lady Hillary Clinton and to Proctor & Gamble to protest a sexist detergent ad, suggesting the company change the language in their ad from “women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans” to “people all over America.” The company later changed their commercial according to Markle’s suggestion. In 2015, in her role as a United Nations Women’s Advocate for Political Participation and Leadership, Markle began her remarks at a UN Women conference with a bold declaration: “I am proud to be a woman and a feminist.”

The humanitarian and now former actor traveled to India with World Vision Canada, the Canadian Arm of international Christian charity World Vision, in January 2017 and shadowed women working at Myna Mahila. Later that year, Markle authored an essay for Time detailing the wide ranging effects shame around menstruation can pose for girls—including a lack of access to proper supplies due to culturally-imposed silences around menstruation that sometimes becomes an end to their education.

Currently, 40 percent of women in India do not have access to sanitary products, placing staggering barriers on their ability to attend school. Menstruation is still considered taboo in India, and women are forbidden from entering temples or preparing certain foods while menstruating. (“Myna” from the group’s name is a reference to the “chatty” myna bird, while “mahila” means women in Hindi; underscoring the organization’s focus on “empowering women to speak about issues they are most afraid to discuss aloud.”)

Myna Mahila is only organization from outside of the U.K. among the seven the couple chose to highlight to receive donations from their wedding. In addition to distributing menstrual hygiene products to women, Mynha Mahila also conducts research about women’s menstrual hygiene and health and educates women about topics ranging from financial literacy to business skills and English language. The organization employs 15 women from the local area to work on production, operations, sales and education and 50 more to distribute the products door to door; some of their employees will go on to form franchises of their own.

Speaking at the foundation’s first annual forum in February,  Markle told audience members: “Women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to be empowered to use it and people need to be encouraged to listen.” Markle will announce her formal patronages in the coming weeks, and women’s rights will likely play a prominent role in her global platform. She’ll likely also take on a role in the Royal Foundation, the philanthropy organization currently run by Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Markle’s encouragement for royal guests and British communities alike to support Myna Mahila is a direct indication that she intends to continue her advocacy for women as she steps into a new role on the global stage. Should she decide to use it to further shatter silence and challenge stigma, women and girls around the world could also continue to reap the benefits.

Meghan Markle’s second wedding dress is possibly chicer than her first

A Stella McCartney creation

We can all agree that Meghan Markle’s Givenchy wedding dress was well worth the wait, as it was revealed this morning in all its modern elegant glory.

However she might just have topped it with her evening wedding dress, a sleek number created by Stella McCartney (so half the wedding dress designer rumours were true at least).

The white silk evening gown featured a chic high neck and soft flowing skirt and small train, which Meghan held up as she got into a vintage sports car with Prince Harry to head to their evening reception.

This gave us a glimpse of her pointed Aquazurra silky satin and nude mesh heels with baby blue soles.

A statement from the Palace read, ‘The Bride’s evening dress is designed by Stella McCartney and is a bespoke lily white high neck gown made of silk crepe. The Bride is wearing shoes from Aquazurra made in silky satin, with nude mesh, with soles painted in baby blue.’

In comparison, Kate changed into a second McQueen dress for her evening do in 2011, and it was a very princessy strapless ballgown with jewelled belt.

Inside Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s Evening Wedding Reception

Newlyweds Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan partied into the early hours of the morning at their evening wedding reception at Frogmore House following their Saturday, May 19, wedding at Windsor Castle in England.

The intimate celebration for 200 of the couple’s closest friends and family kicked off at 7 p.m. and was hosted by the groom’s father, Prince Charles. It followed a more sedate lunchtime reception held by the queen, where Elton John performed.

Guests let their hair down at the evening shindig, with the Telegraph reporting that the thump of loud music could be heard over the grounds of Windsor Castle, and at 11 p.m. guests were treated to a fireworks display that lit up the sky.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, traveled to Frogmore House in an E-Type Jaguar modified with an electric engine as the bride wore her second dress of the day — a white halterneck Stella McCartney gown accessorized with a huge aquamarine ring that belonged to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Harry looked dashing in a black tuxedo.

Guests included Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and their father, Prince Andrew, according to the Telegraph, which reported that the couple chose Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” as the song for their first dance.

The newly minted duchess’ close friend Jessica Mulroney was also in attendance and the Daily Mail reported that George and Amal Clooney, as well as Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams, were among the A-list guests.

The party reportedly featured house music from a DJ who also played at Pippa Middleton‘s wedding as well as a Drinks of the World-themed bar that included a ginger and rum cocktail, in a tribute to the groom’s red hair. It was named “When Harry Met Meghan.”

The Mail reports that the three-course sit-down dinner was organic, at the request of Prince Charles, and the guests were entertained by funny speeches from best man Prince William as well as Harry’s friends Tom Inskip and Tom Van Straubenzee. Meghan was also expected to give a speech at the reception.

Why Harry and Meghan’s Wedding Was a Meaningful Step Forward for the Monarchy

The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — or, if you prefer, of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — was a collision between the United Kingdom and the United States, a geopolitical tango in which a particular sort of American ethos definitively took the lead. For those who’ve surmised that Meghan may meaningfully change the public face of Britain’s monarchy, Saturday’s wedding seemed to provide ample evidence. For the many millions watching worldwide, it bore the imprints of a guiding sensibility that was passionate, globally engaged and — relative to the rest of the royals — downright breezy.

This became clear in the moments before Meghan even entered the chapel. Prince Harry, evidently a nervous groom, transmitted anxiety through the screen. Other members of the royal family seemed even less at ease, seemingly because of an odd paradox: Their pleasant remove from contemporary digital life has made them vastly less comfortable on camera than most of their subjects. Her motorcade may have arrived with down-to-the-minute British punctuality, but Meghan strode out with an un-royal sort of confidence. In a simple and clean dress and one bit of ornate finery — a tiara whose encrusted jewels set off her Drybar-chic messy bun — she held a pose outside the chapel for a long moment as her train was being arranged, and used the time to wave to members of the assembled crowd with a mood less of noblesse oblige than of amiable openness.

Perhaps it’s her training as an actress that made her seem vastly more comfortable than anyone else in the room, at least at first. With a slightly arch smile that never faded, Meghan seemed better suited to be the center of attention than the family whose members are born to be seen. In her company, Harry, too, seemed to relax; the game of psychoanalyzing royals based solely on body language and snippets of attempted lip-reading got vastly more fun.

As things got underway, though, Meghan’s ease seemed to come from the fact that the ceremony reflected her and her new husband’s sensibilities and their decisions — especially at a style of wedding that’s usually hemmed in by tradition. Meghan’s pathbreaking status as a biracial American bride in a royal wedding echoed through the proceedings: Surely this was the first wedding in Windsor family history to feature a black American bishop declaiming at some length about the power of love. Rev. Michael Curry’s address was political — not in the way many sermons are outside of royal weddings, but in a way that cannot possibly be made palatably bland for all audiences. He spoke with fervor and with volume about love, and the ways in which it might extend beyond individual couples and toward greater justice and respect among all humanity.

That it wasn’t made up of platitudes felt like a provocation; its engagement with the world around us, citing both the mixed blessing of social media and the experience of American slaves, made it clear. The sermon shook viewers at home out of complacency, and seemed on television to rattle various royals. (Everyone will have their favorite cutaway; mine was to Kate Middleton, Meghan’s sister-in-law and the bride at a far more staid royal wedding, glancing briefly but significantly at Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.) It was followed by a gospel choir singing an arrangement of the soul classic “Stand by Me.” Previous royal weddings had been ones at which the world was meant to look in awe; this was a wedding to which the world had been invited. That it didn’t seem to play in the room is precisely the point.

A bride can say little at her wedding except her vows. But Meghan expressed a confident readiness to exist on the world stage as the closest thing to one’s own person as a member of the royal family can be. And in choices made as part of a couple, Meghan made clear that her corner of the monarchy will be one marked by engagement and pursuit of justice and charity. It may not be easy: She joins a family that has spent the years since World War II in skittish retreat from the world marked by momentary attempts at engagement.

To be sure, the Queen and her retinue have learned a good deal about the moods of its subjects since its mishandling of Princess Diana, whose charitable impulses and whose emotional openness they never understood in life and whose sterling reputation they failed to reckon with, at first, in death. But the modern royal has, before Meghan, looked more like Prince William or Kate — a figure who seems less fussily old-fashioned than their ancestors but who still avoids politics or, really, any topic of interest at all. They let the Windsor legacy do the talking. Meghan has already put that legacy to work in intriguing ways, proving adept at working within, and beyond, traditional venues and strictures. When a sermon about what love really means when it comes to how we live in society happens at a royal wedding, it redounds around a world that’s ready to hear it.

Many royals shun the spotlight, given all the headaches that come with it. Meghan, shrewd in her choices and earnest in her passions, lets her light shine, to quote the gospel song that played as guests exited. Within the bounds of royal tradition, Meghan has already squeezed in a wedding that reflected meaningful thought and concern for the world. One wonders what she’ll be able to accomplish with the tools at her disposal now that she’s a member of the family.

Meghan Markle, the New Duchess of Sussex, Wears Stella McCartney Dress to Wedding Dinner

CALLING STELLA: Having chosen a Givenchy Haute Couture dress by Clare Waight Keller for her walk down the aisle Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, turned to yet another female British designer to dress her on her wedding day: Stella McCartney.

“I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” said McCartney. “It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning sunny royal day.”
Markle changed into a sleeveless white silk crepe gown with a high collar for the black-tie dinner being hosted by Prince Charles at Frogmore House in Windsor. She paired the dress with Aquazurra satin shoes with baby blue soles.
The clean lines and silk fabric of the Stella dress echoed the minimal, unembellished design she wore for her walk down the aisle.

Meghan Markle Picks Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller for Her Wedding Dress

WINDSOR — Duty and discretion.
Meghan Markle, who became Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex earlier this morning, telegraphed some very powerful messages to the British public — and the world — about the sort of royal she wants to be.
Stepping out of a vintage Rolls-Royce in a minimal and an unembellished Givenchy Haute Couture dress by the British designer Clare Waight Keller, a diamond tiara on loan from Queen Elizabeth, and a veil bearing symbols of the Commonwealth, this bride was out to prove that she’s all about simplicity, heritage, respecting tradition — and serving her public.

Not for her a glittering gown with a bejeweled veil. In Waight Keller she picked a talented, low-key British designer who is all about femininity, soft edges and beautiful fabrics. It was a fitting choice: After all, Markle may have married a son and brother of future monarchs, but Harry is now sixth in line to the throne — and will likely never get near it.
The couple also married at St. George’s Chapel on the Queen’s Windsor estate — not at Westminster Abbey or St. Paul’s Cathedral in London — and invited more than 2,000 members of the public to

6 Regal Anime on Crunchyroll to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding

On May 19th one of the most beautiful events of all time will take place — a royal wedding. Prince Henry and Meghan Markle will tie the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. To celebrate, FANDOM went through Crunchyroll’s anime catalog and found a few anime shows that will put you in a grand mood.  So, here are six anime to get you ready for the royal wedding.

Yona of the Dawn

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Yona of the Dawn

The Kingdom of Kouka has only one person in line for the throne, the 15-year-old princess Yona. The sheltered princess expects to have a fantastic birthday celebration with her father King il, her friend and bodyguard Hak, and her older cousin (and love interest) Soo-Won. But, things don’t go as planned. Yona witnesses Soo-Won murdering the king.

Now, with the king dead, Soo-Won claims the crown. Hak and Yona must flee the palace for their lives. But it is only when Yona leaves the comfort of the palace that she sees the impact of her father’s rule. The Kingdom of Kouka lies in ruin due to poverty, conflicts, and corruption. Reclaiming the throne will be more difficult than she initially thought. Even so, she’s determined to grow from a naïve young princess to a fierce warrior.

Based on Mizuho Kusanagi’s manga of the same name, Yona of the Dawn tells the tale of a young woman forced to face the dark truths surrounding her country, father, and the person she used to love. But despite how dire her situation may be, Yona — with Hak by her side — decides to face these hardships in hopes of restoring her country to its former glory.

Snow White with the Red Hair

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Snow White with the Red Hair

Despite having the same title as one of Disney’s most famous fairy tales, Snow White with the Red Hair is nothing like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Ever since she was a young girl living in the Kingdom of Tanbarun, Shirayuki has gained attention due to her rare, apple-red hair color. Years later, she runs an herbalist shop and receives the same attention — but, this time, from the prince of Tanbarun. Instead of romancing her, as any normal fairy tale prince would do, Raji Shenazard demands that Shirayuki become his concubine.

Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her mane and escapes into the woods. There she meets Zen Wistaria, the prince of the neighboring country of Clarines, and his two aides. In exchange for healing the prince’s injury, he invites Shirayuki to come to his kingdom.

In Clarines, the girl with the red hair sets out to follow her passion by becoming an apprentice court herbalist. But that isn’t her only goal. She also wants to stay close to the charming young prince. Will their social standings keep them apart, or will love conquer all?

Code Geass

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Code Geass

Thanks to its military might, the Holy Britannian Empire rules over one-third of the world. In the 21st century, Britannia invades Japan using giant robot weapons called Knightmare Frames. Now the rest of the world refers to Japan as “Area 11,” and its people as “Elevens.”

An exiled Britannian who was living in Japan at the time, Lelouch Lamperouge, vowed to his Japanese friend Suzaku that he’d destroy Britannia for all the harm it has caused. Years later, Lelouch is in high school. But he rarely attends as he skips class to play chess and gamble against aristocrats. As small as this may be, it’s his way of fighting against Britannia.

One day, he stumbles upon a terrorist group of Elevens who have stolen a mysterious green-haired girl from a military convoy. Lelouch meets this strange girl, known as C.C., who offers him a great yet equally atrocious power — the Geass. With this new ability, Lelouch can get anyone to do his bidding, and he’s got his sights set on the Holy Britannian Empire. But will Lelouch exact retribution, or will he fall victim to the Geass’s curse?

Black Butler

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding Black Butler

As the “Queen’s Guard Dog,” 10-year-old Ciel Phantomhive is the most powerful boy in all of England. However, the young Phantomhive has endured much suffering. He not only watched his beloved parents die in a fire, he also was abducted and violently tortured.

Desperate to see his parents’ murderers burn, he trades his soul to a demon for a chance to exact revenge on them. This demon, known as Sebastian Michaelis, now serves as Ciel’s butler. He will protect and serve his young master. But he can’t wait to make a delicious meal out of Phantomhive’s soul.

With countless faithful servants and Sebastian on his side, the Queen’s lapdog will confront some formidable enemies in England’s high society as he searches for his parents’ murderers.

The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding The Heroic Legend of Arslan

It’s the year 320, and the truculent King Andragoras III of the Kingdom of Pars wages war with the neighboring empire of Lusitania. However, his son, the young prince Arslan is nothing like his father. The boy is a gentle and empathetic individual who is kind to everyone. Even so, as the future king of Pars, he must prove his strength on the battlefield.

However, during his first battle, everything goes wrong. One of the king’s most trusted officials, Kharlan, betrays King Andragoras III.  This allows Lusitanian forces to destroy the Parsan army and assume control over the royal city, Ecbatana. With the military in a mess and the Lusitanians out for his head, Arslan goes on the run. Luckily, he evades capture until his loyal friend Daryun, the formidable Black Knight of Pars, finds him.

With Ecbatana under the rule of Lusitania, Arslan and Daryun must surround themselves with warriors and advisors as the prince searches for a way to liberate the city. But first, he must learn what it means to rule.

The Royal Tutor

Anime to Get You Ready for the Royal Wedding The Royal Tutor

The “Royal Tutor” is an exceptional tutor responsible for educating members of the monarchy. They are also considered to be the best teacher in the nation. The charismatic yet strict royal tutor, Heine Wittgenstein is a brilliant man who deserves respect. But, he often doesn’t get it thanks to his short, childlike appearance.

Still, the king of Granzreich has called upon Heine to attempt a difficult task, one that has driven away many of Heine’s colleagues. The king orders Heine to raise a worthy candidate for the throne. But there’s more to this request than meets the eye. At first glance, the princes have all the charisma and delicacy that you would expect from members of the monarchy. However, in actuality, the four princes are a bunch of troublemakers.

Laughter and a ton of headaches await Heine as he tries to form a bond with each of the young princes to groom them for the throne. How will Heine handle these brothers who were too much for the previous royal tutors to handle?

7 ways to make a grand entrance at your wedding

7 ways to make a grand entrance at your wedding

7 ways to make a grand entrance at your wedding

After marrying the love of your life, simply walking into your wedding reception seems a bit anticlimactic. Celebrate your nuptials—and wow your family and friends—with an unforgettable reception entrance. Any one of these seven ideas are sure to surprise and delight your attendees.

1. Play Meaningful Music

If you don’t like anything too flashy, or if you have an extremely limited budget, you can create an impactful entrance with music. Have your band or DJ play a song that’s meaningful to your relationship, and walk into your reception hand-in-hand with your new spouse. Guests will swoon over the romantic moment, and they’ll whip out their cameras faster than you can say “I do.”

2. Throw a Dance Party

For a more energetic entrance, dance to your chosen song as you make your way into the party. The dance can be choreographed beforehand or completely impromptu, which will probably spur some lighthearted laughs from impressed guests. Choose a tune with an upbeat melody and don’t be afraid to show off your skills.

3. Involve the Bridal Party

Want a dramatic entrance without all the attention focused on you? Then recruit your bridal party to participate in the dance routine! Plan out the details with bridesmaids and groomsmen before the big day, so they know to bust a move as soon as you enter the reception. Other guests will be undoubtedly surprised by the flash mob, but they’ll likely be inspired to join the fun.

4. Arrive in a Unique Vehicle

If your ceremony is outdoors, don’t be afraid to experiment with unique transportation options. Choose something that feels natural for your wedding theme and personality. If your ceremony is on a farm, for example, consider arriving by horseback or tractor. Other transportation options include a luxury or vintage car, a boat, a motorcycle, horse and carriage, or a sleigh.

5. Plan a Light Display

If you’ve hired a lighting company for your big day, plan a show-stopping light display for your grand entrance. Consider casting the entry point in a color wash, flashing dozens of strobe lights, or broadcast your wedding monogram with gobo lighting.

6. Use Extras to Your Advantage

Those with larger budgets can incorporate extra elements into their entrance plan. Secure festive items like as flower petals, confetti, or balloons on the ceiling of the venue, and have them fall as you cross the threshold into the reception.

7. Have a Reverse Send-Off

When the bride and groom leave the reception at the end of a night, guests often create a tunnel of sparklers to send them off. Draw inspiration from this idea and have a “reverse send-off,” where the bride and groom walk through a sparkler tunnel into the reception. If the celebration is indoors, the guests can create a walkway of bubbles or glow sticks instead.

Clark Howard’s guide to saving money on your wedding

When money expert Clark Howard’s daughter was planning her wedding for May 2018, she and her fiancé used a lot of different money-saving strategies to hold down the cost while still putting on a lovely event.

The great news is that you can use those same strategies to plan your own fabulous wedding without going deep into debt.

RELATED: Clark Howard — How my daughter saved a ton of money on her wedding

Follow Clark’s advice to get married cheap and happy!

Wedding planning season is here, and couples are racing to plan the perfect nuptials in time for a late-spring or summer wedding date.

The average wedding today costs $ 33,391, according to the latest numbers. So before you get too deep into planning, you need to sit down and come up with a budget for your wedding. It can be $ 100 or it can be $ 30,000 or more.

The idea that weddings have to be frightfully expensive to be any good is an odd and amazing thing. I think about my in-laws who were married some 50 years ago and it cost them $ 25. Inflation adjusted, that would be like a $ 100 wedding today. — Clark Howard

Ultimately, it’s your budget that will determine whether your wedding is a courthouse ceremony or more like a coronation. It’s whatever makes sense in your life — or in your parents’ lives.

Such was the case with Clark when he gave his daughter a flat amount of money and told her whatever she didn’t spend, she and her husband could keep for the down payment on their first home.

As part of creating your budget, write down all the elements of a wedding you want — flowers, DJ, wedding favors, etc. —  and then start prioritizing them. That way you get a feel for what’s indispensable and what you can maybe do without.

“Just don’t do what I did to save money on the vehicle we drove off in [after getting married],” Clark warns of his marriage to wife Lane.

“My mother-in-law will probably never forgive me for renting a subcompact purple Mitsubishi that was $ 16 a day. I also remember the wedding photographer was so angry at me for ruining his exit shot. He wanted me to leave in his car, which was a Cadillac convertible. I said, ‘Nobody’s going to believe that it was really me leaving in a Cadillac convertible!’”

Without further ado, here are some ways you can keep it both cheap and classy…

The first rule of a cheap wedding is…Never say the word “wedding”

When you call around to vendors, don’t tell anybody you’re getting quotes for a wedding. Call it a ‘party’ because you’ll likely get a lower quote.

Don’t buy a million bridal magazines

Leading up to the big day, women love to thumb through wedding magazines. But the cost of those polished glossy magazines can really add up! Browse Pinterest for wedding ideas for free or just look at those magazines the library.

Besides, you won’t want a pile of those magazine hanging around after the big day anyway.

Be flexible on the venue

You can save the cost of a catering hall by holding the reception at your home or someone else’s home. Sometimes people who met at college will hold the reception on campus. Or, check to see if you can rent a museum or other public facility for your wedding.

Clark’s daughter and her fiancé looked at a lot of venues and found an event space in a public park. They got married outside and, luckily, had great weather.

You can save a lot if you hold the reception at a place that will let you bring in your own caterer and alcohol. In that case, consider buying the alcohol yourself at a discount store and bringing it to the reception.

Be flexible with your wedding date

Many event spaces have different charges on different days of week. Saturday and Sunday are typically high-priced days to get married. If you want to go really budget, consider a Tuesday or Thursday. If that’s too extreme, then maybe Friday is the right compromise between scheduling and pricing.

“I have nephew who got married on Monday because their venue in California was cheaper on that day,” Clark says. “When have you ever heard of somebody getting married on a Monday?!?”

Another way to flex to save money is to plan your wedding for a time of year that’s not traditionally associated with weddings. That could mean considering a January wedding instead of a June one.

Work with a canceled-wedding broker

It’s always a great idea to see what services you can pick up on the cheap. For instance, when engaged people break up and don’t make it to the altar, what happens to those non-refundable services they booked?

If they’re smart, they’ll sometimes sell the services they’ve paid for to a canceled-wedding broker. That helps recoup at least some of the cost.

But here’s the neat thing: Their loss can be your gain!

A site like CanceledWeddings.com buys broken contracts and offers them at a discount. This recent snapshot of their Twitter feed shows venues you could pick up on the cheap in Pennsylvania, Washington D.C. and California for summer and fall 2018 weddings:

canceled weddings

Consider your guest list carefully

You may have to make tough choices with your guest list based on your budget.

Since most catering facilities will charge you by the person, deciding how many people to invite will have a greater impact on the cost of the wedding than almost anything else.

Make your own invitations

Look for fonts that appeal to you online and use them to create your own invitations with a laser printer. Pinterest is perfect for this purpose.

Or, as an alternative, use online discount sites that can also make your Save the Date cards and invitations. This works especially well if you have a discount code that can bring the price down further.

Live band or DJ?

A DJ will be much cheaper than a live band. Ask about cash discounts or pay-in-advance discounts. It never hurts to negotiate, either. Just be sure to get the final agreement in writing.

If you want at least some live music on your big day, consider hiring a piano major from a nearby college or music school to play at the cocktail reception. Maybe you’ll luck out and even find a student jazz ensemble that will perform for much less than a professional band!

Opt for beer and wine — but not liquor

It’s much cheaper to serve just beer, wine and maybe one signature cocktail at your reception than to have an open bar serving liquor.

You could also consider offering a cash bar, or serving no alcohol at all.

Create your own décor

Joel, one of the producers on The Clark Howard Show, got married back in 2011. He and his bride Emily staged a very inexpensive wedding, working within the $ 12,000 budget from her parents.

Emily had fun creating the décor for the wedding. She crafted flowers out of paper instead of dedicating money to a huge flower budget.

(If you do opt for real flowers, ask the florist if you can buy the vessels in which to display them yourself. That could be a savings of $ 20 or $ 30 per vase or bowl right there if you find ones you like at a discount store.)

Joel says Emily liked the creativity behind the whole process and the saving money part just kind of fell in line with that. For their rehearsal dinner, they opted for catered BBQ and kept prices down that way.

Again, Pinterest is an amazing place to get ideas for DIY wedding projects. We’ve got a list of some of the many wedding items you can create and personalize on Pinterest here.

Sheet cake from a supermarket is a money-saver

A sheet cake rather than a multi-tiered cake will net you a big savings. Top off those savings by buying the sheet cake at Costco, Target or another grocery store bakery.

Clark’s daughter had a regular white icing cake from the Publix supermarket bakery. She bought four different sizes of round cakes and stacked them to dramatic effect to make one giant cake. The price tag? Under $ 40!

Don’t financially strap your bridesmaids

For the bridesmaids, try telling them a color (like navy or black) and encouraging them to wear an existing dress, rather than having them buy a one-time use only dress.

About the dress…

Buying a wedding dress off the rack is a great way to save money on this centerpiece of any bride’s wedding. H&M has wedding dresses for just a couple hundred bucks or less online. J. Crew and Ann Taylor sell wedding dresses, too.

Sample dresses at bridal stores are often discounted. You also shouldn’t rule out buying a dress secondhand or using a hand-me-down, particularly if you’re into either vintage styles or family heirlooms.

Renting a dress is another great option because then you don’t have to worry about storing or preserving the dress after your wedding. The reality is most people can’t tell if your dress is designer or from a chain. So, if you aren’t attached to a specific dress or designer, try a rental site like BorrowingMagnolia.com.

If designer is the way you want to go and you want to own, you can buy a name dress on deep discount from NearlyNewlywed.com.

Final thought

Does a glitzy wedding make the marriage? Not by a long shot.

In fact, recent research into the correlation between what you spend on a wedding and how long your marriage lasts shows the exact opposite.

If you insist on spending more than $ 20,000, you’re statistically going to get divorced at a rate that’s roughly 1.6 times higher than couples who spend between $ 5,000 and $ 10,000.

Want to have the longest-lasting and happiest marriage of all? The study shows you’ll have a lower-that-average rate of divorce if you spend $ 1,000 or less on your wedding.

Ultimately, the lavishness of the ceremony means nothing. It’s about who you’re marrying.

“If you’re a Bridezilla, I would encourage you to take a chill pill,” Clark says. “Remember that your vows and having a great life with your spouse are the most important things. A wedding can be very tasteful and it does not have to blow the budget.”

Michael Curry, Pioneering Bishop, To Speak At Royal Wedding

Presiding bishop Michael Curry of the American Episcopal Church will give a sermon at the royal wedding this Saturday, May 19. Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter last Saturday that “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have asked that The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church, will give the address at their wedding.” He will join the dean of Windsor, the Rt. Rev. David Conner, and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who will officiate the service.

Although Prince Harry and Markle do not have a personal relationship with the reverend, the couple decided on Curry after discussions with the Archbishop of Canterbury, according to UK’s Telegraph. Curry, 65, is described as a “high energy” evangelical preacher who shook up the face of Episcopalianism.

History Maker

In November 2015, the Episcopal Church, historically one of the faiths of the nation’s white elite, installed Michael Bruce Curry as a presiding bishop over its 1.8 million members, becoming the denomination’s first African American spiritual leader.

The love that has brought and will bind Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle together has its source and origin in God, and is the key to life and happiness,” Curry said.

Curry has backed same-sex marriage and racial reconciliation. In his 2015 autobiography, Songs my Grandma Sang, Curry revealed that he and his family are descendants of slaves and sharecroppers in North Carolina and Alabama.

Curry has been active on social justice issues throughout his ministry, including speaking out on immigration policy and supporting marriage for same-sex couples, according to his biography on the Episcopal Church’s website.

Taking A Stand

In 2016, after the archbishops of the Anglican Communion imposed three-year sanctions on the Episcopal Church for its decision to allow clergy to perform same-sex marriages, Curry said the church will not roll back its acceptance of gay marriage. Anglican leaders then stripped the Episcopal Church of any role in deciding doctrine or determing how the Anglican Communion operates for three years.

They heard from me directly that that’s not something that we’re considering,” Curry told NBC News. “They basically understand we made our decision, and this is who we are, and we’re committed to being a house of prayer for all.”

Meghan Markle’s Parents To Visit Queen, Have Wedding Roles

Meghan Markle, right, watches the closing ceremonies of the Invictus Games with her mother Doria Ragland in Toronto.

LONDON (AP) — Meghan Markle‘s divorced parents will meet with Queen Elizabeth II and other royals before her May 19 wedding to Prince Harry and will have special roles in their daughter’s wedding, a palace spokesman said Friday.

At the wedding, the royal couple also plan to honor the memory of the late Princess Diana, Harry’s mother, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Officials didn’t predict the weather — springtime in England can be glorious or horrid, sometimes on the same day — but they outlined plans for a celebration designed to spread from the privileged environs of Windsor Castle throughout Britain and the world, via television and the internet.

Here are some of the plans disclosed by Harry’s press secretary, Jason Knauf, during a briefing at Buckingham Palace:

MEGHAN’S PARENTS TO MEET THE QUEEN, TAKE PART IN WEDDING

Markle’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, will arrive during the week before the May 19 wedding so they have time to meet Harry’s family.

Knauf says they will visit with the queen, her husband Prince Philip, Harry’s father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, and with Harry’s brother Prince William and his sister-in-law Kate.

Ragland will travel with her daughter by car to Windsor Castle on May 19 and Thomas Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St. George’s Chapel for the ceremony.

Knauf says Markle is “delighted” that her parents will be by her side. He did not say whether Markle’s half brother and half sister will attend the wedding.

The Scottish State Coach, which will be used in the case of wet weather, for the wedding of Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

PRINCESS DIANA’S FAMILY WILL HAVE A ROLE AS WELL

The press secretary says Harry is “keen to involve his mother’s family in the wedding” and that all three of Diana’s siblings will be present. One of Diana’s two older sisters, Jane Fellowes, will give a reading during the ceremony to represent Diana’s family.

NO MAID OF HONOR

Markle, an American actress who came to prominence in the TV series “Suits,” will not have a maid of honor during the ceremony.
Harry has chosen William as his best man.

YOUNG BRIDESMAIDS AND PAGE BOYS

Knauf says all the bridesmaids and page boys will be children. That may mean a role for Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 3, the children of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. But don’t bother looking for Prince Louis — born in late April — as the youngest prince will not attend the wedding.

DON’T ASK ABOUT THE DRESS

Palace officials are determined that the style and designer of Markle’s wedding gown will be kept secret until the moment she gets out of the car to walk into the chapel. They say this tradition is very important — but that won’t keep speculators from trying to guess who has received the most important dressmaking assignment of the year.

SEPARATED THE NIGHT BEFORE

The press secretary says Harry and Markle will spend the night before the wedding apart. They have been living together in recent months since announcing their engagement. They will spend their first night as a married couple in Windsor Castle.

GOOD WISHES FOR PRINCE PHILIP’S HEALTH

Palace officials say they’re hopeful that 96-year-old Prince Philip, Harry’s grandfather, will be well enough to attend the wedding festivities . The queen’s husband has been recovering from hip replacement surgery and has not participated in any public events since being discharged from the hospital in mid-April.

FOLLOW THE WEDDING AT HOME

The palace plans to publish the Order of Service on its website the morning of the wedding so people watching it on television will be better able to follow what’s taking place inside the church.

DELAYED HONEYMOON

Knauf would not reveal where the newest royal couple will spend their honeymoon, but he said they won’t be leaving right after the wedding. Instead they plan to make their first public appearance as a married couple during the week following the ceremony. In the past, they have traveled in Africa together.

What Should I Wear to a Casual Wedding?

Wedding season is approaching (although it seems to last all year long nowadays), which means you’re likely to have a slew of spring and summer weddings to attend. These events call for looks that are a little more laid-back. But how do you get dressed-up enough without overdoing your outfit? To fill us in on what to wear to a casual wedding, we tapped celebrity stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott for their valuable advice and eye for all things style.

Whether you want to keep it classic or go for a playful look, we’re breaking down four outfits that are perfect for keeping things a bit more casual. Sometimes it all comes down to your styling choices, like swapping out fancier heels for flats when wearing a maxi dress or opting for suiting separates on their own instead of together.

Keep reading to see (and shop) the outfit combinations to nail casual wedding attire.

This is a look that’s playful but can be great for a wedding. Go for pretty details like lace fabrics or bold jewels tones, and pair it with dressier shoes and nice accessories. What’s ideal about a jumpsuit is how versatile it is, so it really comes down to how you accessorize. We recommend pointed-toe pumps and a structured handbag.
Available in sizes
Available in sizes 0 to 12.
Available in sizes XS to L.
Available in sizes
Available in sizes IT34 to IT42.
Everything feels more casual with flats, so don’t be afraid to pull out a more dramatic piece, and then dress it down with simple accessories that are more daytime-appropriate. Nice, flat strappy ballet flats and your everyday layers of simple necklaces and dainty earrings are perfect. This is an ideal time to pull out that one dress you bought for an event but haven’t worn since.
Available in sizes 0 to 8.
Available in size 12.
Available in sizes XS to L.
Available in sizes IT35 to IT41.
Available in sizes 5 to 11.

Pair a structured skirt with a cute top. Try a high-waisted flare skirt or sharp pencil skirt, and tuck in a little tank or silky top. Available in sizes XXS to L.
Available in sizes 2 to 26W.

Forego your full suit by leaving the blazer at home, and instead style relaxed trousers in a lightweight, dressy fabric with an easy camisole. Wear the look with pretty heels and a dressy clutch. You can also swap out the trousers for a breezy dress and throw a structured blazer on top to finish off the look.

Beach Formal and Beach Wedding Dress Code

There are very few reasons to dress formally at a beach except for a wedding. So let’s assume you’ve traveled very far, go to your resort, and you assume you can buy your attire there, that’s not the case.

Usually, you’ll find shorts and flip-flops which is not something that would be appropriate for a wedding. So plan ahead and bring the right stuff because a business suit or regular tuxedo is simply over the top.

Beach Wedding

Beach Wedding

What Is Beach Formal Or Beach Wedding?

It’s typically used for beach weddings and it’s comprised of the most formal things you can wear at the beach without looking totally out of place. It’s quite similar to resort attire in the sense that it has lots of lighter colors, open weaves, spring or summery colors that are well suited to a tropical climate.

What Not To Wear

Leather strap sandals with rolled up salmon -orange jeans

Leather strap sandals with rolled up salmon -orange jeans

1. Never Wear Sandals With A Suit

It just doesn’t go together. If you wear long pants, you could just take off your shoes, take off your socks and roll up the hems. That way, it works with the beach wedding theme. Because it’s warmer outside, some may want to skip the jacket and go maybe with a vest and matching pants instead.

2. Don’t Wear A Suit Jacket Or Blazer With Shorts

It may be a look that is originally from Bermuda and they wear it with over the calf socks. You show up at a beach wedding, it just looks awkward and it draws too much attention to yourself which is not the point. You want to have the bride and the groom be the center of that day.

Short sleeve shirts are never a good plan

Short sleeve shirts are never a good plan

3. Avoid Short-Sleeved Shirts

Either you go a little more casual and have a polo shirt with short sleeves or you take a long-sleeve shirt. If it’s quite warm, you can simply roll up your shirt sleeves. It will always look better than a short-sleeved shirt. Short-sleeved shirts are particularly bad when worn with a jacket or a sport coat. One thing I’ve seen recently at a beach wedding that was quite awkward was a suit with a shirt that was untucked. Someone tried to be more casual and relaxed but it just looks weird. I know Justin Timberlake wore it at the Super Bowl halftime show but it was a camel suit with a bandana and overall, it had nothing to do with classic style.

monochrome layering

4. Ditch The Monochromatic Look

By that, I mean pants, or a jacket, or shirt, and even a tie, all matching in the same color. It lacks contrast and overall, monochromatic outfits are never flattering. Likewise, you should skip bold or any whimsical patterns because huge Paisleys or Hawaiian shirt style suit jackets or pants are simply not appropriate. Some people like to wear suspenders but if you do so, I suggest to wear at least a vest or a jacket. If you just have it on top of a shirt, it looks weird. Likewise, it’s a beach wedding so you shouldn’t bring any kind of formal accessories such as black shoes or black belts. It provides too much of a contrast to your lighter colored pants and it’s overall out of place.

Beach Formal Must-Haves

First of all, if you think you don’t have anything in your current closet, it’s better to buy something than to rent something because you can always wear it whenever you travel into warmer climates. If you are part of the wedding party you simply don’t have a choice, simply go along with what the bride and groom have planned for you. It’s their day and you just have to accept it and go with the flow.

1. Casual Close-Toed Shoes

If you’re often in warmer climates, I suggest thinking about a perforated leather shoe because it’s something that keeps you cooler and it’s definitely more casual than a regular leather shoe. At the same time, it’s still classically stylish. If you like it bolder, you may be able to pull off a spectator shoe but always keep in mind, you never want to overshadow the bride and groom because it’s their day.

medium brown penny loafers

medium brown penny loafers

If you want to invest in something that you can wear at home, I suggest to go with a loafer either a penny loafer, maybe a tassel loafer in a light tan color, because it’s versatile and you can just wear it at the beach or at a beach wedding but also to the office or casual Fridays. Other colors that work well are tan and even white buckskin shoes because, in the tropics or the beach wedding, it’s an appropriate look.

Allen Edmonds Wide Basic Dress Belt

2. Belt That Matches Colors In Your Outfit

If you go with a belt, make sure the color works with your overall attire. Definitely, don’t show up in shorts unless the bride and groom have specifically asked you to do so.

A light blue linen dress shirt

A light blue linen dress shirt

3. Cotton & Linen Shirts Are King!

Linen breathes a little more heavily but in any case, you want something with an open weave so you can really feel the breeze at the sea. You may be tempted to go with silk because it is often very lightweight and has a nice touch but it is in fact quite insulating and so I suggest not to wear it. Skip the French cuffs and cufflinks, rather go for buttoned barrel cuffs because it’s just one layer of fabric and if you’re really overheating, you can even unbutton the shirt button on your cuff.

4. A Lighter Colored Suit

Because even a beach wedding is more formal than regular outings at the beach, it’s okay to wear a suit. If you do so, go with something lighter colored, may be a seersucker suit or a lighter suit maybe in khaki or tan, or you can go with a combination of seersucker pants and a lighter jacket. Lighter colors have the advantage because they reflect the sunlight and so you stay cooler. Definitely, skip navy or gray colors because they’re simply out of place at the beach. Fun colors such as lighter greens, maybe petrol are perfectly appropriate.

In terms of fabric choice, you can go with wool especially if it’s an open weave like a tropical fabric. You can also go with cotton, linen or blends thereof. Make sure to stay clear of polyester or nylon because those fibers will just make you sweat. Likewise, your jacket should be made of a lighter material but what’s even more important is that it has an open weave and a sewn canvas. If it’s glued, which is something you usually find on less expensive suits, it’s more insulating and you’ll stay hot at the beach.

Definitely, opt for more casual details in your jackets which means notch lapels or patch pockets rather than peak lapels and jetted pockets.

5. Go For Lighter & Bolder Accessories

In terms of accessories, it’s okay to go without neckwear because it is warm. However, it’s a wedding, after all, and you want to put your best foot forward. I suggest to either go with a knit tie because it has an open weave or maybe a bow tie because it’s lighter in weight. You can also have bolder colors or summery colors and you can look for fabrics like shantung silk which is more knobby and more casual than a traditional wedding tie or an office tie.

Even if you decide against neckwear, I always suggest you go with a pocket square because it quickly elevates your outfit.  On top of that, a little boutonniere in your buttonhole can be a nice addition. However, sometimes that’s reserved just for the wedding party so when in doubt, I’d rather skip the boutonniere and normally go with a pocket square.

As for socks, basically, I always like to have over the calf socks that will take off. If that’s too much for you, maybe go with a pair of no-show socks so that way, you have that beach look but you still have shoes on and you’re not sweating or you don’t get blisters inside your shoes.

Everything you need to know about nail art for your wedding day

Everything you need to know about nail art for your wedding day

If you’re searching for a way to help your wedding day manicure stand out in a sea of neutrals, you might want to put nail art on your radar. Enter Paintbox, the New York City-based salon known for turning bare nails into miniature pieces of modern art with inspired designs, two-tone color schemes, and intriguing textures. And, thanks to their brand new bridal menu, their artists now officially offer specific nail art looks that were designed with the bride-to-be in mind. The best part? You don’t have to be planning a futuristic fête to try the trend. “Our bridal look book is broken up into categories to make it super simple for anyone to be able to choose her look based on her mood and style,” explains Julie Kandalec, Paintbox’s Creative Director. Here, she gives a little insight into wedding nail art trends and her advice for brides who want big day manis with a side of Matisse.

The French manicure is on its way out.

At least, it is in New York City, says Kandalec. Instead, women most frequently asked for design like thin lines of glitter, glitter ombré, and crescent slivers. Just as popular? A straight wash of sheer pink or peach—looks like your favorite neutral is safe for another season.

Glitter is on the rise.

“We see a full range of classic to sparkly, but there’s definitely a lot of glitter going on during wedding season!” reveals Kandalec. Not sure what type of glitter to ask for? Look to your engagement ring for the perfect sparkly shade, she suggests. “A bride will always lean towards milky whites, sheer pinks, and pale blush pinks, but I always suggest a bit of sparkle in the same color as her engagement ring.” A lilac base, she adds, is also up and coming.

Courtesy of Paintbox

Nail art won’t overpower the rest of your look.

So you can rest assured. For brides who want to keep things subtle, Kandalec designed Luxe 03 (solid peach base with two squiggly lines) and Graphic 01 (light pink base with a skinny asymmetrical curve). “I designed Luxe 03 to be more than a solid nail but not overpowering,” she says. “Graphic 01 is so minimal—it provides asymmetrical visual interest that’s more than just an angled stripe.”

Classic brides can get in on the fun, too.

Just because you don’t describe yourself as modern doesn’t mean nail art isn’t for you. Kandalec created the “Classic” range with this specific woman in mind—and recommends she start with Classic 01, which is created with opal foil. “It adds just the right amount of glamour to your nails to still be considered classic,” she adds. “Plus, it’ll softly reflect whatever color you’re wearing, making it the perfect chameleon shade.”

Nail art can be tailored around any nail length—but aim to grow them out.

“All lengths can be beautiful, but having some length for your wedding nails makes them more elegant for the formal occasion,” she continues. “Also, I love an almond shape—it’s more timeless than square!”

Do this to make your nail art last through the honeymoon.

Get gel, says Kandalec. “Since gel lasts two to three weeks, it’s definitely best to have it for the honeymoon. That way you can focus more on sipping piña coladas by the pool, rather than filing your nails by the pool!”

These are the things Meghan and Harry aren’t allowed to wear on their wedding day

And wait ’til you see the wedding guest rules

Meghan Markle visits Titanic Belfast.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visit to Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK – 23 Mar 2018

Royal fashion etiquette is a law unto itself, from dictating which kind of bag Kate Middleton should wear to whether or not Princess Diana was allowed to wear gloves. So it comes as no surprise that the Royal wedding has a very strict dress code.

The wedding invites went out earlier this month, and the formal dress code was set: day dresses and hats for the women; uniforms, morning coats, or lounge suits for the men. But there are a few other rules wedding guests are expected to follow, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, so here’s a breakdown which will especially be handy for non-Royal and non-British guests – well, we wouldn’t want a sartorial faux pas from Meghan’s Suits castmates now, would we?

Female guests should wear hats and day dresses for the day

Beatrice and Eugenie didn’t just wear hats to become the meme of the year (well, pretty sure that wasn’t their intention either), they had to. Ladies must wear hats in church as a sign of respect, and the bigger and more jovial the better. However, hats aren’t recommended for the evening, as that’s when the tiaras come out. For the day, dresses are expected to be on the conservative side (it’s a church wedding after all), and colour is encouraged, though of course black and white are discouraged.

For the evening, expect guests to wear fancier and longer dresses.

Male guests should wear uniforms, morning coats or lounge suits

According to Town & Country,  military men are encouraged to wear their uniforms, but failing that, a morning coat and all the trimmings is a must. Think tail coat, waistcoat, tie etc, though if that’s not their bag, a lounge suit, which despite the name is really just a nice suit, is allowed. However it’s deemed ‘inappropriate’ for men to wear hats, and polished black shoes are a must.

Prince Harry will probably wear a uniform

When Prince William married Kate, he wore his uniform, and as Harry was in the military too, it’s likely he will follow suit as it’s traditional for Royal men to do so.

Meghan Markle’s bouquet will have myrtle

According to Bustle, it’s a Royal tradition to include myrtle in the wedding bouquet, as it symbolises love. It all started when Victoria included a sprig in her bouquet, and it has since been grown in the Royal garden. Princess Diana, Kate Middleton and the Queen all had it in theirs.

Meghan Markle will have a classic manicure

No bold colours for Meghan, as only neutral manis are allowed for Royal events.

The bride’s wedding ring must contain Welsh gold

Another tradition, started by the Queen’s parents. When they got married, they got given a gold nugget from a mine in North Wales, and a bit has been used for each Royal bride since.

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress will be by a British designer

This isn’t official, but since Queen Victoria, The Queen, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton all wore British designers, it’s safe to assume Meghan will follow suit. Which ties into the whole Erdem designing the wedding dress very nicely indeed.

It looks like Prince Philip will be making the royal wedding post-surgery

‘His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received’

prince philip

The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to hospital earlier this month, with the royal family releasing a statement to break the news, explaining that the 96-year-old royal was undergoing surgery.

‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow,’ read a statement from Buckingham Palace. ‘Further updates will be issued when appropriate.’

After over a week in King Edward VII’s hospital, Prince Philip was discharged today, waving to the crowds as he was driven away in a Land Rover.

‘His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh left King Edward VII’s Hospital at midday today, following a hip replacement operation last week,’ announced Buckingham Palace in a statement. ‘The Duke will continue his recovery at Windsor.’

The statement continued: ‘His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received.’

This is good news for royal fans who were worried that the Duke would not be able to make it to his grandson Prince Harry‘s wedding next month.

Luckily, it looks like Prince Philip will be there in high spirits, recovering in the very wedding venue – Windsor Castle – and expected to use a walking stick or crutches for the royal wedding.

We hope he’s feeling better for the big day!

All the Wedding Videos & Photos Beyoncé & JAY-Z Have Shared in Honor of Their 10th Anniversary

A decade ago, on April 4, 2008, Beyoncé and JAY-Z married on the fourth day in the fourth month of the year in honor of their shared favorite number. (She was born Sept. 4, he was born Dec. 4 and they have “IV” tattoos on their left ring fingers.)

And very little has been shared from the top-secret, super-intimate wedding ceremony due to Bey, 36, and JAY, 48, requiring their 40 guests, including Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, to abide by a no recording devices rule. Even their proposal has been kept hush-hush, though the couple delighted fans with a mock proposal at the 2014 Met Gala when Beyoncé’s ring fell off during her red carpet photo op.

However, last year, proud mom Tina Knowles Lawson toasted to her daughter and son-in-law’s ninth wedding anniversary by sharing a never-before-seen black-and-white portrait of the couple walking down the aisle right after they said their “I do’s.”

RELATED: A Detailed Timeline of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s Relationship

“It was a very emotional wedding — lots of crying — and really very spiritual,” a source told PEOPLE at the time of the soirée, held at the rapper’s 13,500-sq.-ft. Manhattan penthouse and decorated with 70,000 Dendrobium orchids flown in from Thailand. The couple obtained a marriage license at a village hall in Scarsdale, New York.

The pair — who are now parents to 6-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and 9-month-old twins Rumi and Sir — celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary with fans when they shared a video, titled “Die with You,” which she captioned, “4.4.17,” with two blue hearts.

Images from their ceremony were also seen in Beyoncé’s 2016 standalone video for the Lemonade track “All Night” in which home video from their nuptials showed the epic wedding dress made by her mom.

In April 2015, JAY-Z posted a video of the big day on Instagram. Though his account has since been deleted, the clip showed he and his wife exchanging vows before Jay slid a wedding ring on Queen Bey’s finger. For the first time, fans were able to see her favorite color — blue! — painted on her nails.

And if you were among the lucky concert attendees of their joint On the Run tour in 2014, Beyoncé and JAY-Z aired footage from their wedding during their sets.

RELATED: 10 Hysterical, Awkward and Unforgettable Stories from Celebs Who Met Beyoncé

Also in 2011, Beyoncé shared two photos of gown fittings in the music video for “I Was Here” which showed behind-the-scenes footage of the making of her white strapless sweetheart gown with a curve-hugging bodice, billowing skirt and dramatic train.

Ms. Tina previously admitted that her daughter was not a fan of her mother’s wedding design. “ was so sweet to let me do that. She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’ Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart,” she told Today in April 2016.

In November 2008, Beyoncé told Essence magazine that she wanted to forego an engagement ring. “People put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material and it’s just silly to me,” she said. “What Jay and I have is real. We’ve been together a long time. We always knew it would happen.”

RELATED: ‘Crazy in Love!’ See Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s Private Relationship Through the Years

The 21-time Grammy winner also previously discussed their long-standing romance that began when she first met JAY-Z at 18 years old.

“There was no rush — no one expected me to run off and get married,” she also told Seventeen in November 2008.I really don’t believe that you will love the same thing when you’re 20 as you do at 30. So that was my rule: Before the age of 25, I would never get married. I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else.”

Though photos of Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s wedding are rare to come by, fans have been able to witness the couple taking part in sister Solange’s November 2014 wedding to husband Alan Ferguson as well as Tina’s April 2015 wedding to Richard Lawson.

Fast forward to the present, Beyoncé has discussed her marriage in her sixth studio album, Lemonade, and JAY-Z referenced their relationship in his 13th studio album, 4:44. And in March, the power duo announced the sequel to their 2014 tour by revealing the dates for the OTR II Tour which kicks off on June 6 in Cardiff, England.

SHOE DEAL UPDATE:

What to Put On Your Wedding Registry (And: How to Deal When Your Wedding Registry is Public)

Today we have a great question from reader K, who wants an open thread about what to put on your wedding registry — and makes the interesting point that her wedding registry will be public. Here’s her question:

Would LOVE it if you would consider doing a “wedding registry” advice/crowdsourcing post! I am registering now, and am a senior lawyer & manager in-house in big tech, living w fiance but wanting to upgrade our dishes etc. I’m sensitive to the fact that whatever I register for will be visible on the internet to opposing counsel, my reports and clients, and even regulators etc. that I deal with on a regular basis (who I KNOW google me). What do we need? And what do we need to know?

Such a good question, K! For my $ .02, I really suggest you think about the kind of life you and your partner want — not just what you think you want. You go to Macy’s or Bloomingdale’s and you suddenly feel like, well, of COURSE we need $ 5000+ worth of crystal and china… but do you feel like washing it by hand or chancing it in the dishwasher? How many of your friends do you actually trust with an $ 80 wine glass — particularly after he or she has had a few? We registered for a lot of stuff that was, I think, overly fancy for us and our shared lives (those links go to my patterns) — and that was before the kids came. These days we’re down to a few unbreakable martini and wine glasses and eating off unbreakable Corelle plates I’ve had since college. You could say, “ah, but the kids will grow up!” — but by that point my mother may have tried to downsize her fancy plates and barware to my possession, to say nothing of the fancy crystal and china she inherited from her mother or MIL.

I’m not saying this stuff is frivolous or unnecessary — but I do think I did a poor job of picking my own registry items. So I’d LOVE to hear what readers have loved on their registry — and what you’ve seen done when the couple says, eh, we’ve got what we need, thanks! Some fun newer registry options if you haven’t already seen them include Zola, Blueprint, and more — you can register for bigger ticket items like furniture, home remodeling, or vacations — and you can facilitate group gifting as well. The NYT also wrote recently(ish) about wedding registries for charity. Readers here (and elsewhere, like on the Knot) seem to roll their eyes at these nontraditional registries a lot, though, so know your situation, including your own family and friends as well as your partner’s. Another option that always exists, of course, is to tell your guests “we want your presence, not your presents!” — since, of course, wedding-related travel is already expensive.

Married readers, what did you LOVE from your registry? If you didn’t really need a ton of stuff, how did you handle it? For those of you who were wary about having a public wedding registry, how did you handle it?

Psst: you can also check out our recent discussion of how to plan a wedding when you work long hours, as well as all our tips on how to handle wedding etiquette at work.what to put on your wedding registry if you already have everything - image of wineglasses Relatedly: we’ve also discussed when we REALLY set up house (in which I shared my story of splurging on nice dishes for myself well before any wedding (or partner) because I liked ’em).

NFL Star Robert Griffin III Marries Grete Šadeiko in Extravagant Miami Wedding

NFL star Robert Griffin III is officially off the market – again!

The 28-year-old quarterback married Grete Šadeiko, 24, in an extravagant wedding in Miami, Florida, on Saturday among family and friends.

Griffin shared photos of their big day on Instagram, including one photo of the couple in a room created by hanging crystals with a perspex floor with white roses on top and purple lights within to match their wedding’s color scheme.

“First name Grete, Last name Griffin. All I ever wanted to be for you is your hero. It turns out that all along, you were mine,” RGIII – who wore a blue suit with a bow tie and silver Christian Louboutins – wrote in the caption.”

Šadeiko wore an embellished white lace gown with a plunging neckline by Berta that featured a removable tulle skirt, which she wore for the ceremony along with a chapel length veil and earrings from John Damico.

For her first dance with her husband, the heptathlete removed the skirt revealing a modified mermaid dress with a train that was bustled up so they could spin around the dance floor.

The couple danced to Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” on a smoke-covered dance floor.

The two athletes got their wedding off to a sweet start with a four-tiered wedding cake with white and pink lifelike sugar paste roses cascading down.

The couple wed at the W South Beach and their big day was organized by wedding planner Tiffany Cook.

In addition to their wedding photographs, which were taken by Martha Ramirez of UDS Photo, the couple also commissioned a specialty lightbox, similar to the one used at the Met Gala.

The lightbox allowed the couple to create their very own wedding music video to Drake’s “God’s Plan”.

RG III made sure to share the wedding fun with fans, posting to social media after all the festivities.

In a second Instagram post, he shared another photo of him and his wife, writing, “Blessed to wake up in the morning knowing my reality is better than my dreams.”

Griffin shared more photos of himself with his groomsmen on Twitter, writing, “The Groomsman Aka La Familia.”

The couple welcomed their first child together, Gloria Griffin, in July.

Griffin praised Šadeiko on social media after Gloria’s birth, writing to his newborn, “Your mommy is incredible! The way she pushed through delivering you into the world was the stuff of legend. Very simply put, Your mom is a certified baller!!!”

“I am blessed to have your Mommy riding with me as we show each other what real love is and now we have you, our own little angel to raise,” he continued.

“It is very rare to find something real in this world we live in. God is real and he has blessed your mommy and daddy beyond our wildest dreams.”

The athlete wrote that he and Šadeiko – whom he got engaged to in May – “have Real Love. Real Happiness. Real Purpose. That is priceless.”

Griffin is already dad to daughter Reese Ann, 2, whom he shares with his college sweetheart and his first wife, Rebecca Liddicoat.

We are ALL getting this present on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding day

It’s no bank holiday but it’s probably the next best thing…

The countdown to the royal wedding is officially on, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle set to wed on May 19th at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The past few months have been consumed by what we can expect from a Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedding, with updates on everything from who will be Meghan Markle’s dress designer and how the couple are deciding on their seating plan to who will be performing at the reception – it’s looking like Elton John.

In fact, we know so much about how the royal couple and their guests will be spending the day that we’ve completely forgotten to work out how we will be marking the occasion ourselves.

When Prince William and Kate Middleton married on Friday 29th April 2011, the day was declared a bank holiday as a result, allowing us all to celebrate with street parties up and down the country. It seemed plausible therefore that we might get a day off work for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials.

Unfortunately, for, well, everyone, the couple have chosen to get married on a Saturday so there’s no chance of a day off or a bank holiday, but as a consolation the government has decided to give us all a present to make celebrating easier.

According to the Independent, Home Secretary Amber Rudd has announced that pubs across the UK will have their licensing hours extended over the royal wedding weekend – giving us more time to ‘join together and celebrate’.

‘As shown by the support for the proposal to extend licensing hours, it’s clear that the public back the idea of having more time to raise a glass to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a day of national celebration,’ she announced.

Well that’s something we suppose.
