Queer Eye Season 2 Couple William and Shannan Get Married in Intimate Sunrise Beach Ceremony

They got engaged on season 2 of Netflix’s hit show Queer Eye. And now, William Mahnken and Shannan Eller have officially walked down the aisle and said their “I dos.”

The couple, who appeared on the episode titled “A Decent Proposal,” got married on June 13 in a sunrise beach ceremony in Amelia Island, Florida.

Mahnken — who was made-ver by Fab 5 members Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France, Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, and Antoni Porowski on the show — shared a photo of he and his new wife to Instagram on Saturday, calling her his “best friend.”

Though the Queer Eye boys helped Mahnken with his proposal, neither of them were able to make it for their big day. Mahnken said in his caption that he and Eller had a “small, private ceremony” which was officiated by friend Deborah Ramey.”

The official Queer Eye Instagram account also shared a photo from the wedding.

“Congratulations William and Shannan!” they wrote in their caption. “Thank you for letting us be a part of your love story and we hope that the next phase of your life is filled with love, movies, and a lot of avocado goddess! We Shannan you both.”

That last line was a callback to Mahnken’s proposal, which was seen on the show. He had taken his then-girlfriend to an outdoor movie screening where he surprised her with a humorous and tender homemade video, filmed as he struggled to come up with a new word to describe the love he had for her.

In the end, Mahnken found the perfect word for Eller and surprised her with it when he proposed: “Shannon.”

This isn’t the first time the Fab 5’s intervention has lead to a couple tying the knot.

In season 1, they helped Tom Jackson rekindle his romance with ex-wife Abby Parr, the two marrying in March in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Fellow season 1 subject AJ Brown also revealed during a Netflix “FYSee” event that he married his boyfriend, Andrey.

Both seasons of Queer Eye are currently streaming on Netflix.

William Shatner Promotes Solar-Powered Cryptocoin Mining

Ever the showman and pitchman, William Shatner isn’t shy when he’s passionate about something. So onlookers may have expected something more from Star Trek’s original Capt. Kirk when he announced that Solar Alliance Energy, a company for which he’s the spokesperson, had purchased a 165,000 square foot warehouse in Murphysboro, Ill. as the first of many solar-powered facilities it plans to lease to cryptocurrency miners. Maybe a full-voiced, head-titled-back, “COOOOOOINNNNNNNNN!” as a camera pulled up and away? Alas, no, not today.

Instead Shatner made anodyne statements about the future of currencies that existed solely as bits. “I am proud to be a part of the group that is powering the digital currency revolution,” he said in a statement. “Blockchain technologies, and cryptocurrencies specifically, are at the cutting edge of a new distributed technology infrastructure.”

Shatner’s connection to tech is tenuous — and always has been, from Priceline to LottoGopher — but it highlights a significant and rapidly increasing problem associated with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies: they require vast amounts of electrical power. The distributed worldwide Bitcoin network employs specialized server hardware that performs over 80 million trillion operations a second worldwide to find a mathematical needle in a haystack that allows them to collect a hefty reward and add transactions to a global ledger, called a blockchain. By comparison, the world’s fastest supercomputer performs 200,000 trillion operations a second.

The need for that much calculation comes with accompanying needs for power. A recent peer-reviewed paper that performed a rigorous analysis of the likely energy consumed by Bitcoin alone said the currency consumes nearly as much energy as all of Ireland, with a current annualized rate of 22.3 trillion watts of power (TWh) a year at minimum, compared to Ireland’s consumption of 25 TWh. Bitcoin’s electrical use could power roughly 2 billion average American homes. The paper’s author believes this could triple by the end of 2018.

Solar Alliance Energy’s Murphysboro facility will get a 3-megawatt solar panel array, which at a theoretical peak capacity could generate about one-tenth of 1% of power consumed by Bitcoin globally. But because solar only works during daylight hours and only at peak efficiency for part of the day, actual production will likely be far less.

While cryptocurrency advocates have promoted the idea of green power stoking the Bitcoin furnaces–especially off-the-grid sources devoted exclusively to mining–the scale and location of large-scale mining operations make any dramatic shift to solar unlikely.

Murphysboro has just 8,000 residents, which is typical of cities in which cryptocurrency mining operations locate. Small towns with cheap hydroelectric or other forms of power around the United States have increasingly wrestled with miners who come into town and start asking for tens of megawatts of power, the equivalent of large-scale industrial operations. Some public utility districts have imposed advance payment requirements for infrastructure upgrades, frozen new mining operations, or created new tiers of service to charge miners more.

Shatner was once a cryptocoin skeptic, but told the Chicago Tribune he’s now a convert. While he lives in California, he has a home in Kentucky, and expects he might visit the facility, which Solar Alliance Energy plans to start leasing out to mining clients by the end of 2018.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Reveal Their Royal Baby Boy’s Name!

Introducing, Prince Louis!

Prince William and Kate Middleton have revealed the name they’ve chosen for their baby boy.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles,” Kensington Palace said in a statement Friday. “The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.”

While Will and Kate waited a few days before revealing their new baby’s name, that didn’t keep British oddsmakers from making predictions. William also teased his son’s name as he left the hospital. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he said with a smile.

And eagle-eyed fans even spotted a suspicious web page on the royal family’s official website with a URL containing the name Prince Albert (one of the top predictions).

Big brother Prince George was also given a name with special meaning. His full name, George Alexander Louis, was chosen with love and a nod to history.

The name George carries a lot of sentimental meaning to William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, as it was the name picked by her beloved father when he became King George VI in 1936. Alexander is believed to have been picked by the couple to honor the Queen, whose middle name is Alexandra. Louis is likely a tribute to Prince Philip, whose grandfather was Prince Louis Alexander of Battenberg. Louis is also part of Prince William’s full name of William Arthur Philip Louis. It also has great meaning to William’s own father, Prince Charles, whose uncle and mentor, Earl Louis Mountbatten, was assassinated by the IRA in 1979.

When it came to choosing a name for their second-born child, Princess Charlotte, the royal parents paid tribute to William’s late mother, Princess Diana, and the almost 3-year-old princess’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Will and Kate represented the baby’s grandfather, Prince Charles, by going for the female version of his name. And they included Princess Diana, which was a popular choice with friends and admirers of her legacy. They also added the ultimate nod to great-granny and reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

The baby prince was born on Monday at 11:01 a.m. at 8lbs, 7oz. Just seven hours after giving birth to her third childKate Middleton appeared (in heels!) on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday evening with Prince William by her side to introduce their new baby boy to the world.

Kate’s younger sister, Pippa, was one of the royal baby’s first visitors. Pippa, who is reportedly expecting her first child with husband James Matthews, arrived at Kensington Palace just one day after the prince was born.

Carole Middleton arrived at Kensington Palace on Wednesday to meet her newest grandson and to check in on daughter, Kate Middleton.

After the royal baby’s birth, Prince Charles released a humorous statement on behalf of himself and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

“We are both so pleased at the news,” Charles said in a statement. “It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”

Queen Elizabeth celebrated the latest addition to her family with a quick horseback ride through the grounds of Windsor Castle, where she is staying with husband Prince Philip, who is still recovering from hip surgery.

The Obamas, Ellen and More Stars Congratulate Kate and William on Baby No. 3

A joyous occasion for all! Michelle and Barack Obama congratulated Prince William and Duchess Kate on Monday, April 23, after the arrival of their third child, a baby boy.

“Barack and I are thrilled to congratulate The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their newest arrival!” the former first lady wrote alongside a photo of herself and the former president meeting Prince George, who was getting ready to go to bed, back in April 2016. “We hope to meet him soon for a Kensington Palace pajama party. I’ll wear my robe!”

Former One Direction band member Liam Payne also sent his well wishes.  “Congratulations to her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge Kate and the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William on the birth of their baby boy! #RoyalBaby,” the English singer tweeted.

Ellen DeGeneres, Chrissy Teigen and Sarah Silverman also reacted to the royal baby news, but took a more comedic approach.

“It’s a boy! Kate Middleton’s new baby is now 5th in line to the throne, and season 43 of ‘The Crown,’” the Ellen DeGeneres Show host tweeted. “Congratulations to all!”

“Royal baby name pitches: Joseph, Michael, Henry, Idris, Sandy, Clyde, Butch, Grandpa Al Lewis, Jude, Bub,” Silverman wrote. (William and Kate have not revealed baby No. 3’s name, but the prince told reporters outside St. Mary’s hospital in London on Monday that they will announce the name “soon enough.”)

Pregnant Teigen, meanwhile, tweeted after the news broke that Duchess Kate was in labor: “Guys. It is time. For. VAGINA WATCH, 2018 (how WEIRD would this be???).”

Kate, 36, and William, 35, stepped out with their baby boy just hours after the duchess gave birth on Monday. The couple, who are also parents of Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, headed home to Kensington Palace.

This is why you will always see Prince William holding George’s hand

We couldn’t have called this!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to welcome their third child this month, with the future royal to be the fifth in line to the throne.

But coming behind four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte, royal fans are interested to see how the newborn will fit into the family – with the number of family members as well as their descent to the throne seemingly determining how the family position themselves.

Eagle-eyed royal fans have spotted that ‘the Cambridges’ seem to split off when in public, with Princess Charlotte often seen attached to her mother, Kate Middleton, while Prince George is often spotted holding his father Prince William’s hand.

This detail seems to have even extended to official photographs, with the family’s royal portrait showing Charlotte standing in front of Kate and George in front of William.

According to UK parenting expert Jasmine Peters, this is no coincidence, supposedly giving a nod to the Cambridges’ traditional take on family.

‘It is not uncommon to see a father with his son to set the foundation of what his role and responsibilities will be in life with a family,’ Jasmine Peters explained to the Daily Mail. ‘It is often believed that it takes a man to raise a boy to be a man. Yes, it could reflect that Kate and William are traditional, but it also reflects the importance of the bond created between father and son and mother and daughter that they both treasure and hold dearly as responsible and loving parents.’

We’re not sure how feel about this, but we’re certainly looking forward to the Duke and Duchess welcoming their third child.

How Westworld‘s William Evolved Into the Man in Black

In one of Westworld Season 1’s most highly anticipated twists, we find out that William (Jimmi Simpson) and the ruthless Man in Black (Ed Harris) are the same guy, separated by three decades.

And according to the Westworld Season 2 trailer, the Man in Black is determined to burn the theme park down. Whether or not he gets to fulfill his vacation dreams is anyone’s guess. But let’s pull back for a moment and remember how his character a white-hatted good guy as pure as they come went full black hat.

Before you dive into the Westworld Season 2 premiere on April 22, here’s a refresher on how William became the Man in Black.

John P. Johnson—HBOJimmi Simpson in Westworld

William the Newbie

When he first shows up at the park in the second episode of Season 1, William seems immune to the park’s amusements. He hops off the train as a reluctant first-timer on a business retreat of sorts. He’s traveled there with a returning visitor, Logan (Ben Barnes), his insufferable, rich brother-in-law to-be.

Recall that William did not care for Logan’s system of rating women based on their attractiveness, which Logan shared with him on the train ride in. He didn’t care for the way Logan stabbed an elderly host’s hand to the table because he interrupted their steak dinner. He turned down advances from female hosts like Angela (Talulah Riley) and Clementine (Angela Sarafyan), even though his fiancée enjoyed sex with hosts before. The guy even robbed people politely. He was different.

John P. Johnson—HBO Evan Rachel Wood and Jimmi Simpson in Westworld

Dolores the Draw

That all changed when William fell in love with the rancher’s daughter and the pair teamed up for an adventure into the less family-friendly danger zones of the park through Pariah and Ghost Nation. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) was so pure that she lassoed his heart. And William was so convinced that she could become conscious that he became her ally. They have train sex, and he’s hooked.

John P. Johnson—HBOEvan Rachel Wood and Jimmi Simpson in Westworld

The Major Turning Point

But then Dolores was captured by Confederate soldiers and, as far as we know, brutalized. We discover that William has a real knack for violence when Logan wakes up from an outdoor sleepover to discover that his future brother spent the evening butchering all the host soldiers. Logan is shocked by this. And William gets rid of Logan by sending him galloping away naked on a horse.

Montage Metamorphosis

We learn about William’s transformation in a montage toward the close of Season 1. It shows that he enjoys the rest of his first stay and his mission to find Dolores. William stops at nothing to find her, and when he finally does, in Sweetwater, she doesn’t even appear to remember him. He’s really pissed about that one.

As his Westworld gaming progresses, he turns into a brutal man fixated on getting to the core of the game, mowing down any hosts in his way. We learn that his fiancée Juliet became his wife, and later took her own life. It’s enough to lead him back to Westworld again and again. For 30 years.

His Transgressions

William is a repeat offender, and his rap sheet is long. But here’s a sampling: We learn that he is likely sexually assaulting Dolores in unseen barn scenes, and at one point, he stabs Maeve (Thandie Newton.) But perhaps most surprising of all, he kills Lawrence (Clifton Collins Jr.) He’s the sidekick with whom the Man in Black has a complicated bromance. They have some laughs, but the Man in Black ends up hanging Lawrence once he is no longer useful to him. To him, everyone is just a pawn in this game.

Oh, and then we find out that he also owns Westworld, which helps explain his entitled attitude, and why he thinks it’s appropriate to call Dr. Ford by his first name.

His Endgame

If the Man in Black were a host, in Westworld terms, the deeper level of this game would be his “cornerstone.” It’s what drives him. He spends a good chunk of time trying to figure out what it all means. He firmly believes the deceased park co-creator Arnold (Jeffrey Wright) hid the real mystery of the park at “the center of the Maze.” He’s wrong. The maze is really an inward journey Arnold set up for the hosts. It doesn’t even apply to him, but he’s still relentlessly obsessed with getting there.

John P. Johnson—HBOEd Harris in Westworld

The Real Stakes He Always Wanted

The last we see of him in Season 1 at the black tie affair massacre in the finale, he’s finding his first taste of fulfillment. The host Clementine Pennyfeather shoots him, and he actually gets injured, which thrills him to no end.

Stay tuned for his shenanigans when Season 2 of Westworld premieres on Sunday.

What will Prince William and Kate Middleton name the royal baby?

Everyone’s placing their bets…

kate middleton wedges

The Duchess of Cambridge’s due date is this month and now the whole world is not-so-patiently awaiting the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s third baby – set to become fifth in line to the throne.

The Lindo Wing is ready, with barricades set up outside St. Mary’s Hospital in preparation for the Duke and Duchess’ arrival and their 23-strong royal birthing team is prepped and ready to go. That’s three midwives, two obstetricians, three anaesthesiologists, four surgical staff members, two special care staffers, four paediatricians, one lab technician for blood tests, and three or four managers.

The royal couple is said to be announcing the news that Kate is going into labour on Instagram for baby number 3, so until we get a social media update, royal fans have been busying themselves speculating what will happen after the birth.

Aside from predicting who the couple will appoint their new baby’s god parents (with fans campaigning for Meghan Markle to be god mother), the public’s attention has focused mainly on the royal baby name, with a lot of people placing bets.

What will the new royal baby name be?

We won’t know the new royal baby name until after his or her arrival, but judging by the bookies, there are some top favourites to bet on. It’s hard to know where to put your money yet, as the baby’s gender is still unknown, despite some believing that Prince William may have let the gender slip earlier this week, overheard joking that he wanted to name the baby ‘Jack’ after an Aston Villa player.

According to the multiple sources, the most likely royal baby names are Philip for a boy and a toss up between Mary and Alice for a girl. All the names are traditionally royal, with a number of past Princesses and in some cases Queens bearing the names Alice and Mary, and Philip being a tribute to Prince William’s grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Perfect Novel for Easter: William Faulkner’s ‘The Sound and the Fury’

Photo Illustration by Lyne Lucien/ The Daily Beast

When we think of the works of William Faulkner, we’re unlikely to muse upon feelings of glorious rebirth, or any kind of positive reversal. Cram your mind full of almost any of his novels—minus, perhaps, the potboiling Sanctuary, written by a fame-seeking Bill for cash—and you will come away away with the sensation that that family of yours you’ve complained about over the years is a veritable benchmark for stability and support. You may then reach for the bottle on behalf of the clans that Faulkner’s imagination created.

You can’t get much more dysfunctional than the brood at the heart of The Sound and the Fury, but what I would also tell you is that here we have the ultimate Easter novel.

There isn’t exactly a booming Easter lit market. It’s not like Christmas, where we have a bumper crop of ghost stories that will last as long as we do as humans. There is a story from 1886 by Chekhov called “Easter Eve,” which involves a guy taking a barge across a river on his way to a church service and the ferryman telling him about this dead buddy of his who never got to share his stories with anyone. That’s pretty good. But yeah—there’s an Easter literature void.

Prince William Hands Richard James a Queen’s Honor

JAMES’ DAY: Savile Row tailor Richard James swung by Buckingham Palace on Friday to collection his Queen’s honor for services to men’s fashion. He received the OBE, or Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, from Prince William, and wore the gold cross-shaped medal on the front pocket of his peacock-blue jacket.
“Prince William was delightful, and he remembered me, which was very sweet,” said James who’d visited Kensington Palace years ago to alter some suits that he’d made for the prince. He didn’t make as much fuss about his own suit. “It’s off the peg,” he said during a celebratory Champagne tea at his store on 29 Savile Row. The soggy snowstorm outside did nothing to dampen the mood inside, as James was pulled in multiple directions by friends and well-wishers.
The past 12 months have been major for James, who last year marked the brand’s 25th anniversary and sold the company to one of his clients, Charles S. Cohen, the American multibillionaire. Princes William and Harry Lay Out Charitable Vision at Royal Foundation Forum

FAB FOUR: In their first public engagement as a foursome, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Wednesday laid out their long-term plan for charity work at the Royal Foundation Forum in London.
Set up by Princes William and Harry in 2011, the Royal Foundation is the main platform for the young royals’ philanthropic efforts. The Duchess of Cambridge became a patron in 2011 and Markle, who will marry Prince Harry in May, will soon become the fourth patron, Kensington Palace said.
The theme of the event was “Making a Difference Together.”
“When we work together, we are greater than the sum of our parts,” said Prince William. “All of the projects have seen us working to change mind-sets to make a real and lasting difference. They have all seen us trying to tackle the biggest challenges of the day. They have all seen the foundation listening and taking advice from charities and experts rather than showing up and pretending we have all the answers.”

William Carlos Williams’ plums in the icebox poem somehow became a meme, and it’s getting out of control

William Carlos Williams’ plums in the icebox poem somehow became a meme, and it’s getting out of control

It seems as if Twitter is an endless meme machine. Meaning to say that now Twitter’s made even a William Carlos Williams poem go viral. Do we know why his famous “This Is Just To Say” poem was the latest meme to take over the Internet? No. But the plums in the icebox are suddenly everywhere. And, honestly, we’re kind of loving all the crazy tweets inspired by them.

With this newest Twitter meme, the best part is how it makes very little sense at face value. And how it seemed to come completely out of nowhere. That’s probably why Twitter loved it, to be honest. Everyone had their takes and everyone wanted to make sure they were heard. Some of the best, though, came from those users who decided the poem needed the musical treatment. From song lyrics to just questioning the sanity of the work itself, everyone seemed to have quite the take on William Carlos Williams’ infamous plums in the icebox poem. The main question, though, is why were there plums in the icebox at all? And why did someone put them there to save for breakfast?

Either way, Twitter had fun and didn’t exactly lighten up very quickly. They loved this poem and all the jokes they could make.

Because William Carlos Williams’ plums were just so sweet, so cold.

First, this user just didn’t want Jolene to eat her plums. Steal her man, that’s fine. Just not the plums.

But then, of course, there’s the initial telling your friend that you did, in fact, eat the plums.

And finally, the dreams this user had about a man and woman eating the plums while he was sick to his stomach. You know, because he’s the Mr. Brightside of plum loving.

People had all kinds of takes.

And they just couldn’t stop.

Overall, the memes are just incredible and yes, it is strange that suddenly a William Carlos Williams poem is back in the forefront of our minds. But this is Twitter after all.

Watch Prince William and Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry in ‘One More Minute’ Video for Grieving Families

Prince William appears in an emotional new video highlighting his support for grieving children and families.

In the video, which was released Friday, the royal dad poignantly pleads for people to “please, take one more minute to support Child Bereavement UK and help to rebuild the lives of bereaved families.”

William was 15 when he lost his mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. Her close friend Julia Samuel, who is the founder patron of the charity, previously told PEOPLE about William’s connection with those who have lost loved ones. “People can see his empathy and his compassion, which is informed by his experience but also by his years as a man,” she said. “They connect to that and find it extremely healing.

“No position protects you against the pain of your loss. That experience when he meets families is present in his face before he even speaks.”

Also included in the new “One More Minute” campaign  is British soccer star Rio Ferdinand and Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry. The TV chef, who lost her 19-year-old son William in a 1989 car crash, says in the short video that if she had one more minute with him she “would thank him for being a brilliant son.”

The charity’s chief executive, Ann Chalmers, says in a statement that the new “One More Minute” campaign “taps into a human truth that will help people to understand the impact of bereavement.”

“The film touches on the longing that many bereaved families tell us they have, to be able to have more time with the person who has died. In our 23 years experience of supporting children, young people and families, this is something that is commonly expressed and that many people will relate to.

“Our vision is for all families to have access to the support they need when a child grieves and when a child dies, and our One More Minute campaign gives us the opportunity to spread the word so that families are aware that bereavement support is available through organizations like ours.”

The 40- and 60- second ads will air across several TV channels in the U.K. beginning Friday.

William Eggleston: The Father of Modern Color Photography

For decades, William Eggleston has been regarded as one of photography’s most uncommonly talented practitioners. Hailed as the father of modern color photography, he is also a gifted painter and graphic artist, and a self-taught whiz as a pianist and a composer. For that matter, he can take a shotgun apart and put it back together as easily as he designs and builds his own stereo speakers. So it is hardly surprising that he is also a mean hand with an epigram.

'The Karate Kid' Sequel: Ralph Maccio and William Zabka to Reprise Roles Over 30 Years Later

All it takes is a single glance at the current movie and TV landscape to see just how much influence the 1980s currently has on much of the content being produced. It's not surprising, either, considering many of today's top creators grew up during that time period and, as such, were influenced by the movies and TV shows of the era. Now, one of the most memorable movies of the '80s is getting a sequel, but unlike its previous three sequels and 2010 reboot, it's going straight to…

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Head to Africa — Where William Proposed to Kate!

And a very happy birthday to you, Meghan Markle!

The Suits actress was spotted with her boyfriend of nearly a year, Prince Harry, heading off to Africa for a safari vacation on her 36th birthday, according to The Sun.

Wearing matching baseball caps and with their arms around one another, Harry and Markle walked across the airport tarmac carrying their bags and big smiles on their faces. Markle also carried what looks to be a framed photo covered in bubble wrap.

“Harry has been planning this holiday for a long time,” a source told The Sun, who obtained the photos, of the birthday getaway. “He’s made the trip incredibly romantic. They’ll go on boats across the lake, walk in the bush at dawn and camp under the stars.”

The destination is sure to raise some questions — after all, Africa is where Prince William took the then-Kate Middleton to pop the question seven years ago.

“Who knows what will happen when they’re watching a sensational African sunset together?” the source said. “Maybe he’ll get down on one knee. Harry regards Africa as his spiritual home and has often talked of how he can get away from it all there.”

Harry has often spoken about his love for Africa, calling it the place where “I feel more like myself than anywhere in the world.”

“Obviously he wants to show Meghan what an amazing place it is and create new memories together,” the source told The Sun. “Harry’s done a lot of conservation work in Africa with endangered elephants and black rhinos and he’ll show them to the woman he wants to marry.”

WATCH: Prince William Hilariously Recalls Going ‘Bright Red’ at Supermodel Surprise — from His Mom!

Even Prince William can get starstruck!

In a sneak peek clip from an upcoming ITV documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, William, 35, revealed that he turned “bright red” when his mom, Princess Diana, set up a birthday surprise for the young royal that involved some very famous supermodels.

“When I came home from school to have Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell waiting at the top of the stairs,” William recalled in the clop. “I was probably 12 or 13 year old boy who had posters of them on his wall.

“And I went bright red and didn’t quite know what to say and sort of fumbled,” he continued. “I think I pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up. I was completely and utterly sort of awestruck.”

“That’s lived with me forever about her loving and embarrassing and sort of, you know being — being the sort of the joker,” he added.

The sneak peek also featured Prince Harry remembering how “naughty” his late mother could be when he was younger by sneaking him sweets at school.

“One motto she told me was, ‘It’s O.K. to be naughty as long as you don’t get caught,’ ” Harry said. He also added that one of his strongest memories of Diana was the sound of her laughter.

Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy will air Monday at 9 p.m. in the U.K. on ITV.

The show is one of several commemorations of the Princess in print and on film. PEOPLE and ABC have partnered in a two-night television event The Story of Diana, airing on Aug. 9 and 10 at 9 p.m. ET.

William and Harry Recreate Princess Diana’s Desk — Featuring Cassette Tapes of Her Favorite Pop Stars

Princess Diana had an impressive soundtrack of pop and classical greats of the ’80s and ’90s at her fingertips as she worked from her desk at home.

George Michael, Elton John’s Greatest Hits Volume II, Diana Ross (One Woman, The Ultimate Collection), Dancing on the Ceiling by Lionel Richie, Verdi’s Il Trovatore (featuring her signature — perhaps to ward off anyone taking it!) and Carreras, Domingo and Pavarotti are kept in a case full of old cassette tapes that Prince William and Prince Harry have added to a display at Buckingham Palace.

Diana’s sons picked out the special objects on her desk for an exhibit to mark the 20th anniversary of her death next month. It is the first time that there has been a Diana-centric element in the palace’s annual summer tour, which opens July 22. Tickets are available via the Royal Collection site.

“I think people will find it personal and emotive,” a spokeswoman at Royal Collection Trust said of the poignant choices, that include a set of photos of Diana’s sons.

The exhibit, which also features a pair of her ballet shoes (signifying Diana’s love for dancing) and her old school trunk inscribed with “D Spencer” are chosen to sit alongside her desk that the curators at the palace have recreated.

Also on her desk is a Cartier silver desk calendar, engraved with the birthdays of herself, Prince Charles and their sons, and their wedding anniversary. It was a gift to her by President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy Reagan when Diana and Charles visited Washington, D.C., in November 1985.

“The Princess loved music and constantly listened to the radio, records and tapes when working at her desk,” the curators at the Royal Collection said. “Many of the objects shown on and around her desk have been selected by The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry to reflect their mother’s commitment to duty and their personal memories of her.” to reflect their mother’s commitment to duty and their personal memories of her.”

The exhibit is one of several commemorations taking place as the anniversary of Diana’s death on August 31 nears. The princes have also commissioned a sculpture of her in the gardens of Kensington Palace.

PEOPLE has teamed with ABC to create a two-night television event, The Story of Diana, which airs on August 9 and 10.

‘Cuddles for Cancer’ Teen Founder to Be Honored by Prince William and Prince Harry: ‘Everyone Needs a Cuddle’

When Faith Dickinson’s aunt was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, she knew what would bring her some comfort: a new blanket.

“She said she loved it because she got so cold during her treatments,” Dickinson, 14, tells PEOPLE.

Seeing the effect the simple gift had on her aunt Lyndi, and the tears of appreciation from a retiring fourth-grade teacher who received another blanket soon afterwards, made the teen from Toronto, Canada, realize the difference she could make.

“When my mom picked me up that day, I told her that I wanted to make everyone feel that good. Then we came up with Cuddles for Cancer,” she says.

Five years later, Dickinson has helped create 3,500 blankets.

Now, she is set to join 19 other young people from Britain and around the world being celebrated by Prince William and Prince Harry with a special Legacy Award. The honors at St. James’s Palace on Thursday were set up by the Diana Award charity in the name of their late mother Princess Diana, who died 20 years ago this August.

Dickinson’s initiative Cuddles for Cancer will mark its fifth anniversary on July 1 (the day that would have been Diana’s 56th birthday).

“Everyone needs a cuddle during the difficult times in their lives,” Dickinson says, adding that her blankets have been sent all across Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Brazil, Africa, Australia and Germany.

The teen also gives talks to schools, churches and businesses as she spreads the word. And she helps veterans and those struggling with what Prince Harry calls the “invisible wounds” of combat. Dickinson hopes to make them for those who are participating in Harry’s Invictus Games, which will come to her home city of Toronto in September.

“I have a special blanket that I make for Canadian soldiers and veterans. I send them to soldiers who are serving overseas or when they return home injured or suffering from PTSD,” she says.

Dickinson says she appreciates the humanitarian work that Diana did on behalf of several important causes.

“One thing she achieved was showing people that you won’t get AIDS by hugging or even touching someone with it,” she says. “She also tried to stop the use of all land mines because innocent people were dying or being terribly injured from just walking on them. I think that she was very brave and courageous to take action and use her fame to show people what’s right.”

Praising Diana’s sons, she adds, “I love how they aren’t just supporting a cause, but that they are sharing their personal experiences. It was really brave of them to share about what they went through when they lost their mom.”

Prince William Shares His Heartbreak on the ‘Shock’ of Losing His Mom, Princess Diana: ‘You Never Get Over It’

In a candid admission, Prince William says he is still in shock over the sudden death of his mother, Princess Diana — even nearly 20 years later.

“The shock is the biggest thing,” he says in the new BBC documentary Mind Over Marathon, which airs in the U.K. on Thursday. “I still feel, 20 years later about my mother, I still have shock within me . . . People say shock can’t last that long, but it does. You never get over it. It’s such an unbelievably big moment in your life that it never leaves you, you just learn to deal with it.”

In Mind Over Marathon, which follows the story of 10 London Marathon runners who struggle with issues relating to mental health, William talks about his personal loss — as well as how he learned to handle his grief.

Speaking to host Nick Knowles, William explained that for him,  accepting  that it’s okay to feel this way helped him process his pain.

You try and understand your emotions a lot more than probably someone who’s just lived life without issues, and that’s quite critical,” he says. “It’s explaining to them what those emotions mean, why they feel like they do. Once you start rationalizing a little bit and you understand, Okay, so I’m a little angry or a little down or a little upset about something, then you can kind of relativize it and sort of deal with it.”

William cited his own struggles as the reason he is so passionate about mental health today through his Heads Together campaign alongside Princess Kate and Prince Harry.

“I have my own reasons for being involved in mental health: What happened to me and my mother when I was younger,” he says. “It all comes back down to mental health.”

Earlier in the week, Prince Harry spoke out about the difficult times he faced himself after Princess Diana’s 1997 death, saying that he “shut down” his emotions in the aftermath.

“My way of dealing with it was sticking in my head in the sand, refusing to ever think about my mum, because why would that help, it’s only going to make you sad, it’s not going to bring her back,” Harry told The Telegraph.

Also during the documentary, William speaks with Rhian Burke, 39, whose husband killed himself five days after the death of their son. Burke asked William about his experience growing up after the loss of one parent, and was looking for reassurance that her children would eventually heal.

“They’ll be absolutely fine,” he said. “With a mum like you they’ll be absolutely fine. It’s true, they will be. Because you’re aware of all this, you’re already a step ahead of what could happen.”

Burke said that when her son died, the family received no professional support, and after her husband died, they were left “completely abandoned.” To try to ensure no one else has to deal with what she has, which left her facing anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression, she founded a a child bereavement charity.

In another scene in the documentary, William, Harry, and Kate speak to the runners about their lives and mental health struggles. All but one of the runners they spoke to are competing in this year’s London Marathon on behalf of Heads Together.

Kate spoke with Shereece Foster, 24, from London, a singer, former X-Factor contestant and mother who has battled postpartum depression and suicidal thoughts.

Shereece confessed she had found it difficult to train while looking after her two children.

When Foster told Kate that she had trouble finding time to train for Sunday’s race while looking after her two children, Kate replied: “I don’t know how you find the time!”

Kate then commended Foster and the rest of the runners for being open about their battles with mental health issues.

“You’re the heroes really, because you’re standing up there very bravely telling your stories,” she said. “We hope to shine a light on people like you, because I think that’s what the public need to hear.”

Prince William Says Brits Should Lose the ‘Stiff Upper Lip’ When It Comes to Mental Health

Though Prince Harry and Prince William aren’t running the London Marathon this Sunday, they’ve been active participants in the lead-up to this year’s race through their work with their mental health campaign, Heads Together.

Ahead of the race, the royal brothers sat down with the mental health outlet CALMzine, in which they talked about the importance of de-stigmatizing mental health issues — and why that can be a particular challenge for Brits.

In the interview, William spoke of the stereotypical British “stiff upper lip.” And while he doesn’t discredit the idea of putting on a brave face every once in a while, he says that sometimes, letting your emotions show through is necessary.

“There may be a time and a place for the ‘stiff upper lip,’ but not at the expense of your health,” said the royal dad, who has made one of the focuses of his public work the issue of male suicide.

Prince Harry looked back to his own experiences in the military, where he says the support soldiers have for one another is overwhelming, but often doesn’t include the emotional support needed while serving.

“You’ll do anything for each other, scrub each other’s boots, drag each other through the mud, anything,” said Harry, who was widely praised on Monday for revealing he sought therapy after struggling for years with his mother’s death. “Yet, on the other hand, this support for each other hasn’t included looking after how your buddy is feeling and thinking about things.”

“Hopefully if men see soldiers talking about mental health, it will give them the confidence to do the same.”

Throughout the interview, the two brothers put forward their message of how important it is to end the stigma that surrounds talking about mental health.

“For too long there has been a taboo about talking about some important issues,” William said. “If you were anxious, it’s because you were weak. If you couldn’t cope with whatever life threw at you, it’s because you were failing. Successful, strong people don’t suffer like that, do they? But of course — we all do.”

It’s a message, William says, he and Princess Kate hope to pass on to their children.

“Catherine and I are clear that we want both George and Charlotte to grow up feeling able to talk about their emotions and feelings,” he said.

Heads Together, the mental health campaign supported by William, Harry and Princess Kate, is the chosen charity of the London Marathon. Ahead of the race on Sunday, every runner was given a turquoise Heads Together headband (just like the ones the royals have!).

CALMzine is published by the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a partner charity of Heads Together. Simon Gunning, the CEO of CALM, praised William and Harry for the work they are doing with Heads Together, as well as speaking out about the importance of looking after your own mental health.

“It’s incredibly significant that the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry have lent their voices to CALMzine, as it’s a way we can reach men who may feel they’re not coping but are unsure of where to go or what to do,” Gunning said. “Seeing all different kinds of men represented in the magazine – from princes to artists, athletes or musicians – makes it clear that we’re all in this together and it’s not unusual to have a tough time.”

William Cobbett and Rural Popular Culture

William Cobbett and Rural Popular Culture

This is the first rural and cultural study of the great English countryman William Cobbett (1763-1835). It binds Cobbett’s radical career to his rural heritage and to the experiences and politics of agricultural workers during the early nineteenth century. As a radical, Cobbett’s first quest was to represent the hardships of the labouring poor, and he adopted the labourers’ cultural experiences and class consciousness as the basis of his political platform. He revolutionized press history by joining the ‘pedlar’s pack’, from where he dispensed his two-penny broadsheets along with other varieties of popular literature. The rural labourers understood Cobbett because he articulated their beliefs and values as expressed in their own folksongs and broadside ballads. They embraced Cobbett as a radical leader and as an educator, heeding his moral instruction, his treatises on cottage economy, and his prescriptions on the recovery of Old England. Cobbett lived and moved among the labourers, and knew their political or economic grievances; thus long before the ‘Captain Swing’ rising he forecast the date and patterns of the revolt. His predictions came to pass and he became the single most important leader of the insurrection. His position of authority in the villages carried him forward in the cause of the Great Reform Bill and the Old Poor Law, so that by the end of his eventful career he was the sole public exponent of the cottage charter. This is a major and original work on Cobbett, and represents a breakthrough in the study of rural popular culture and in Cobbett scholarship. It will appeal strongly to a wide range of social and political historians, and have much value for all those interested in the language of class, the evolution of the English language, and the history of journalism.

Democrat and Diplomat: The Life of William E. Dodd

Democrat and Diplomat: The Life of William E. Dodd

Robert Dallek, a luminary in the field of political biography-author of the Pulitzer Prize finalist Nixon and Kissinger and the New York Times bestselling biography of John F. Kennedy-offers here a look at the life of William Dodd, an American diplomat stationed in Nazi Germany. An insightful historical account, Democrat and Diplomat exposes the dark underbelly of 1930s Germany and explores the terrible burden of those who realized the horror that was to come. Dodd was the U.S. Ambassador to Germany from 1933 to 1937, arriving in Berlin with his wife and daughter just as Hitler assumed the chancellorship. An unlikely candidate for the job-and not President Roosevelt’s first choice-Dodd quickly came to realize that the situation in Germany was far grimmer than was understood in America. His early optimism was soon replaced by dire reports on the treatment of Jewish citizens and his pessimism about the future of Germany and Europe. Finding unwilling listeners back in the U.S, Dodd clashed repeatedly with the State Department, as well as the Nazi government, during his time as ambassador. He eventually resigned and returned to America, despairing and in ill-health. Dodd’s story was brought into public prominence last year by Erik Larsen’s New York Times bestseller The Garden of Beasts. Dallek’s biography, first published in 1968 and now in paperback for the first time, tells the full story of the man and his doomed years in the darkness of pre-War Berlin.
