Ben Higgins Reacts to Engaged Lauren Bushnell: ‘I Don’t Know’ Her ‘Anymore’

Leaving the past behind. Ben Higgins is more than ready to no longer be linked to ex-fiancée Lauren Bushnell, especially now that she is engaged to country crooner Chris Lane.

Higgins, 30, opened up about Bushnell’s engagement during the latest episode of his “Almost Famous” podcast on Tuesday, June 18. He began by addressing how the former couple called off their engagement in 2017.

“Ultimately, we left that relationship, both of us, I think, saying, ‘I hope life brings you a ton of joy, I don’t want you upset and alone forever. I hope you find a partner as soon as possible. I hope everything that you want in this world that’s healthy and good is given to you,’” he recalled. “And that’s exactly how I feel. So, to go to Lauren: Lauren, congratulations!”

Higgins then continued by expressing his excitement for Bushnell’s next chapter, adding: “We’re thrilled for you. You found a man that you love without any pressure and in a moment, after dating for a long time, you have said ‘yes’ to spending your life with him and I could not be more excited for you. I want nothing but joy and everything you ever wanted that our relationship would’ve have brought you and Chris. Congratulations.”

While Higgins is happy for Bushnell, he admitted on the “Almost Famous” podcast that he no longer wants the former pair to be associated.

“I hope for Lauren and myself, is that my life isn’t as closely tied to Lauren anymore. I hope that people aren’t reaching out,” he said. “I hope this is a chapter being closed completely because I don’t know Lauren anymore and my life isn’t tied to her.”

Higgins and Bushnell first met when he led season 20 of The Bachelor in 2016. The season ended with the former pair engaged, but they ultimately parted ways in May 2017.

Since their relationship concluded, Higgins began dating Jessica Clarke, which he revealed to fans on Instagram in February. Bushnell, for her part, started a whirlwind romance with her now-fiancé, Lane, three months after ending her relationship with ex-boyfriend Devin Antin.

The “Take Back Home Girl” crooner proposed to the reality star during a Father’s Day celebration at her family’s Oregon home on Sunday, June 16. To make the moment extra special, Lane’s proposal came with a song that he dedicated to her, called “Big, Big Plans.”

Lane posted the video of him popping the question to Bushnell on his YouTube channel, and the reality star shared her excitement for the duo’s upcoming nuptials within a sweet Instagram post.

“I can’t stop smiling. I feel so incredibly blessed that every misstep, mistake and heartache has led me to you. I couldn’t be happier to call you mine, forever,” she wrote Tuesday. “The journey was well worth it. Thank you, Christopher Eric Lane, for softening my heart and making it whole. Never going to stop telling you how much I love you and I will hold onto you forever and ever! Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it.”

The Dappered Space: 10 Styled Outdoor Living Picks

Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here’s why.

The Dappered Space is a series designed to help guys apply the sense of personal style they’ve developed to the space they inhabit. Watch for articles on furniture and decor sales & picks, advice on how to style a room or work space, and tackling creating a space that reflects your own (and perhaps a significant other’s) personal tastes. We’ll suggest items that can be sourced online, but always keep in mind that deals can be found at consignment and thrift stores, local stores with floor models, discount stores, and even yard sales. (top photo credit)

We made it. Well, at least up in our corner of the country things have started to dry out and warm up. And after a long winter and wet spring, it feels like a gift to be able to have drinks on the patio, or dine al fresca. And something that can make that even more enjoyable is creating a styled outdoor living space. Sure you can set up a bunch of camping chairs and card tables for an outdoor soiree, but an intentional outdoor living space can invoke a sense of wonder for your guests. Let’s take a look at a few good options to create a cool look.

Christopher Knight Home 7 Piece Acacia Wood Dining Set – $ 650

Christopher Knight Home 7 Piece Acacia Wood Dining Set

On a delightfully warm (delightful is the key word here) evening, nothing can beat drinks and dinner on the patio. Especially with friends. The mix of wood and metal in this dining set is on trend and a nice departure from the typical plastic wicker look of most outdoor furniture. Make the chairs a little more comfortable for your guests by adding some cushions. Those can get expensive fast, so your most affordable option would be to go with something like this. Currently sold by Great Deal Furniture through Amazon.

Modway Diamond Trellis 8′ x 10′ Indoor/Outdoor Rug – $ 130.47

Modway Geometric Diamond Trellis Rug

If you’re into a subdued look, this rug should work for you. Colors are neutral, but the design adds a cool graphic element. If you’re not into subdued, and love colors, check out this lobster rug, this palm fronds rug, or this striped border rug. All sold through Home Depot.

Belham Living Portside Modern Adirondack Chair – $ 149.79

Belham Living Portside Modern Adirondack Chair

Black is the new black and then some right now. Blame Joanna Gaines and all her modern farmhouse goodness. And truth be told, I like the trend. Simple, clean, and timeless. The only drawback is black shows ALL the dirt and dust, so if you get one of these be prepared to wipe down often. Made from Eucalyptus wood, this Adirondack is highly reviewed and easy to assemble. Since it is actually made from wood (not plastic), ideally this chair would be stored indoors in climates with harsh winters.

Aged Bronze LED Candle Pineapple Lantern – $ 29.98 to $ 42.98

Aged Bronze LED Candle Pineapple Lantern

A traditional symbol of hospitality, these pineapple lanterns are stylish yet whimsical. A nice way to add some extra ambiance to an outdoor living space. The smaller size would make a nice centerpiece during dinner on the dining table above.

Love Story 12′ x 12′ x 12′ Triangle UV Block Sun Shade – $ 22 -$ 26

Love Story 12' x 12' x 12' Triangle UV Block Sun Shade

An easy fix for a lack of shade. It won’t provide deep dark shade, but it will filter sun out to avoid a sun burn. Available in 7 colors.

Koblenz 4 Burner Outdoor Stove/Gas Range – $ 57.99

Koblenz 4 Burner Outdoor Stove/Gas Range

Add an additional element to your outdoor cooking with this handy 4 burner outdoor tabletop gas range. Will be super handy for camping as well. Available at the above price through Houzz, but stock is running low. You can also buy it directly from the manufacturer at a higher cost. I’d call the look of this range “retro.” If it’s not your particular style, at least it’s portable and easily stowed away.

Threshold Drop Outdoor String Lights 10-count – $ 29.99

Threshold Drop Outdoor String Lights 10-count

Part of creating a wondrous outdoor living space in the evening is lighting. String lights create a relaxed ambiance. These lights from Target come in strings of 10, and are offered in black or white.

Delectable Garden 12 Pocket Hanging Wall Planter – $ 22.95

Delectable Garden 12 Pocket Hanging Wall Planter

Dress up a boring fence or wall with a pocket wall garden. In the photo above two of the planters are stacked on top of each other to create an extra tall look. Fill these planters with “spillers” for more green than black, or fill with succulents for a modern look.

Kernorv Hanging Room Divider – $ 28.99

Kernorv Hanging Room Divider

This lightweight PVC hanging dividing screen would be an good looking and affordable way to create a little cordoned off seating area or privacy on a porch. It’s made for indoor use, so likely best to bring it in over the winter, but at just 2.5 pounds total weight, that shouldn’t be too hard to do.

Grandin Road Nantucket Rocking Chair – $ 169 ($ 199)

Grandin Road Nantucket Rocking Chair

There’s just something about a rocking chair. Whether you rock in it or not, just having the option is somehow relaxing. Get a seat cushion on there, a table beside it for your beverage, perhaps your favorite podcast playing on your device, and rock away.

Our Beloved Sponsors

Twice a month, we like to give our sponsors a special shoutout. Without their support, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do, so here’s a heartfelt thank you to those companies who help make Put This On possible.

Custom shirtmaking used to be the exclusive province of bespoke tailors and made-to-measure brands, which required in-person appointments. Sometime in the early-aughts, online MTM shirtmaking emerged, but the process was filled with kinks. Commonly, customers would punch in their numbers and get something back that looked like it was tailored by Denise Huxtable. In the last ten years, however, Proper Cloth has found a way to make near-bespoke level shirts without ever seeing a customer in person. When I talked to founder Seph Skerritt about his company a few years ago, he said it was about finding the right supply chains, refining his block patterns, and building an online interface that makes sense for customers.

Although Proper Cloth specializes in custom tailoring, they also produce lookbooks to give customers a sense of how their shirt fabrics look when made into garments. This week, they dropped their latest spring/ summer lookbook, titled Edge Harbor, which shows how you can wear washed cotton suits, printed shirts, and tonal seersucker camp collars. Cotton suits tend to be stiff since the fibers don’t have the spring-back crimp you find in animal hair, but Proper Cloth’s washed cotton suits are made with a small amount of elastane to give them a comfortable stretch. Plus, you can wear the jacket alone as a sport coat with things such as grey wool trousers and white jeans.

Long-time readers know Chipp supplies the most affordable grenadine neckties. They source their silks from the same Italian mills as top-end brands, but their ties start at a much more affordable $ 45 (grenadines are $ 60 and, like everything Chipp sells, made in New York City). Paul Winston, the shop’s owner, tells me he can’t imagine charging much more because he remembers what neckties used to cost fifty years ago, back when his family’s business dressed men such as President John F. Kennedy, Andy Warhol, and Joe DiMaggio.

If you’re looking for your first grenadine, consider three colors: black, some sort of dark blue, and silver. Black can look severe in certain contexts, which is why it’s often not recommended for suits or socks, but the color manages to be neutral for grenadines and knit ties. You can wear a black grenadine with navy suits, tobacco linen suits, and brown tweeds. Dark blue, either in a shade matching your navy suits or one shade lighter, is equally versatile (a dark blue tie can also be a good way to visually anchor a light-colored sport coat, which could otherwise float away from you). Lastly, silver grenadines are for guys who only wear ties on special occasions — weddings, fancy parties, and other formal gatherings. Silver ties look less like office-clothes than their dark blue counterparts, and the textured grenadine weave here keeps these from looking cheap and shiny.

For a variety of reasons, it can be hard to find quality trousers for less than $ 200. Some of this is because the few remaining factories dedicated to making quality trousers are mostly located abroad, which means their products come into the US with high import costs. Others require high minimums. Their brand partners end up having to sell their trousers through various retail and distribution channels, which in the end comes with higher mark-ups. One of the few exceptions is Hertling, a Brooklyn-based factory that specializes in just trousers. Since they’re located in the US, their products can be sold to US brands at a much lower price. And since they require very low minimums, our sponsor Dapper Classics can sell them directly to consumers online, helping to keep costs down further still.

This past week, Dapper Classics introduced two new colors for their trouser range — a light gray hopsack, and then a summery blue hopsack. Hopsack is a plain weave wool, sort of like a tic-tac-toe weave, that breathes well and has a faint hint of texture. The light gray ones will go with nearly anything short of grey sport coats (and, even then, they can work with grey jackets so long as the colors have enough contrast). Wear them with sport coats in navy, brown, tan, olive, and burgundy. The blue pair, on the other hand, can be worn with sport coats in cream, tan, olive, and gray. By being a slightly less traditional color, blue trousers can make a tailored outfit look more modern. They also do well with more casual ensembles, such as white linen or brightly colored madras shirts worn on their own.

Rowing Blazers is all about preppy classics, but more in terms of the style’s attitude and manufacturing processes, rather than keeping to a literal look. Jack Carlson, the brand’s founder, says it’s important to him to make things the “right way,” by which he means using the “right materials” and producing things at the “right factories.” In the past, they’ve collaborated with prep institutions such as J. Press on a new line of Shaggy Dog sweaters, Murray’s Toggery for Nantucket Red sweatshirts and dad hats, and Warden Brooks, the mother-daughter-owned company that has made the authentic Wall Street duffles since 1978, for some American-Pscyho-inspired banker bags.

At the same time, the company also likes collaborating with companies outside the prep world — the German knitwear manufacturer Merz b. Schwanen, streetwear label Noah, and New York’s legendary dim sum spot Nom Wah among them. This past week, they released a capsule collection with Japanese clothing brand Beams Plus. Inspired by vintage yacht racing, the collection includes a yachting watch on three different NATO straps, dad caps, polos and t-shirts, split-color anoraks, elastic-waist sailing shorts, and blazers with nautical detailing. The three-roll-two blazers feature brass buttons, triple patch pockets, and most distinctively, port and starboard grosgrain trims. Being made from a heavy cotton jersey, these will feel more like a sweatshirt than a traditional sport coat.

‘Since when were women only allowed to have female friends?’

REX

Love Island is back and while we’ve all been loving the return of drama to our weekday evenings, it arguably went a bit far this week.

The past few episodes have seen the islanders shun 21-year-old Lucie Donlan for not putting her female friendships over her male friendships.

Lucie Donlan and Tommy Fury. Credit: REX

Fellow islander Amy Hart was the first to take issue with Lucie’s preference to spend time with the boys, with Lucie’s Love Island partner Joe Garratt following suit.

The girls labelled Lucie as ‘unfriendly’, while Joe – accused of being emotionally abusive – told her it was weird to spend more time with boys than girls and asked her to make more of an effort with the women in the villa.

Joe Garratt. Credit: REX

Yes, Lucie has been attacked from all angles for simply being herself, something that has certainly taken its toll, with the Cornish surfer seeming to spend most nights crying alone on the terrace.

‘I can’t take it anymore’ she cried in one of the most recent episodes. ‘Why should I have to change who I am? No one gets me.’

Amy Hart and Lucie Donlan. Credit: REX

Watching the events unfold, I was furious – and after scouring my Twitter feed, I saw that I wasn’t alone.

There were calls for Amy Hart’s exit after her ‘unfair’ and ‘bullying’ treatment of Lucie and Women’s Aid were even using Joe as an example of mental abuse, but the most common complaint was the belief that men and women can’t be friends, or that women should prioritise their friendships with the same sex over men.

Lucie Donlan. Credit: REX

I am a woman. My best friend is a man. And while I do have a close circle of female friends around me, my male friendships are incredibly important.

I’m not saying boys are better friends than girls or that I value my female friendships over my male friendships. My best friends’ roles in my life have nothing to do with their gender – they have all earned their places for having my best interests at heart, supporting me and genuinely caring.

Lucie Donlan and Tommy Fury. Credit: REX

For someone to be bullied for naturally gravitating towards men rather than women is ridiculous, and even discussing this subject in my opinion, takes us back a long way.

One of the only people to check if Lucie was ok was her friend Tommy, with their friendship being the one that everyone took issue with in the first place. The irony.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be tuning into Love Island, but I am very disappointed in the short-sighted views of the current contestants.

It’s 2019 and no one’s gender should pressure them into having certain friends.

Scouted: For Those Who Seek Sustainable Sheets, Boll & Branch Is What Dreams Are Made of

It’s easy to decide what sheets you want on your bed by how they feel. But when it comes to textiles, there’s so much that goes on before you even touch them. Boll & Branch makes ethical, sustainable textiles for your bed (and beyond) that will make you feel good about what you’re sleeping on.

They implemented a Traceable Supply Chain that eliminates the need for a middleman or retail space but also allows the brand to trace the origin of every thread of cotton that goes into the products. Everything Boll & Branch manufactures has been done so in an environmentally responsible way. The eco-consciousness spans the entire product catalog, from the Solid Hemmed Sheet Set that’s made from long-staple cotton that meets the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) to the new Linen Stripe Sheet Set that has a Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, meaning it’s free of chemicals and harmful substances.

The team behind Boll & Branch made it part of their mission to become Fair Trade Certified, which means the company provides guaranteed “environmental management to reduce water usage, prohibits child and forced labor, ensures equal rights and pay for women, and gives people livable wages, benefits, standard working hours and mandatory breaks.” Their organic cotton sheets not only feel good but do good.

Cuba Gooding Jr. Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Social Media Star Claudia Oshry When She Was A Teen

Does Cuba Gooding Jr. have a checkered that’s slowly coming to light?

Following his arrest last week for allegedly groping a woman at a NYC bar, social media star Claudia Oshry has come forward with claims that the actor sexually assaulted her when she was 16 years old. It’s yet another abuse allegation against the embattled star that his lawyer has shot down.

As reported by Page Six, Oshry, 24, who rose to fame for her Instagram account “Girl With No Job,” made the revelation on her “The Morning Toast” podcast last week, a day before Cuba surrendered to the NYPD and was charged with groping a woman at a rooftop bar in Midtown.

“At the end of the day, like, I don’t know if I’ve ever considered myself to be, like, a victim of sexual assault because I’m not …,” said Oshry. “But yes, when I was in high school — I was f–king 16 years old, Cuba Gooding Jr. put his finger up my butt, and I felt wild.

“Like, I felt — I don’t even know what the right word is. And now, it’s just become, like, a part of who I am. It’s a part of my story.”

Gooding’s attorney, Mark Heller has slammed her accusation.

“Cuba says he has no knowledge as to who this woman is and certainly knows something like that never happened,” Heller told The Post.

On the podcast, Oshry said she worked the story about the Oscar winner in part of her stand-up comedy act — and audience members have come up to her afterwards to share with her their own stories of Gooding getting too close for comfort while partying hard at bars.

“At least once every show, someone who comes up to me, they’re like, ‘Oh my God! Me and my friends were at a club and the same thing happened to me’ or ‘the same thing happened to my friend,’” she said.

“This is not the first time that I’ve heard, but this is the first time I’ve heard that police are involved.”

Oshry has noting but praise for the anonymous 30-year-old woman who came forward last week to tell cops Gooding grabbed her breast at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge on Seventh Avenue.

“Good on this, girl,” Oshry said. “Because how many f–king people is he going to grope before one of them calls the police? Mine was 10 years ago!”

Cuba has pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse and forcible touching.

Meanwhile, another woman also came forward last week with accusations that he touched her inappropriately more than a decade ago.

Film ‘Legacy Lives On’ Premieres At ABFF, Follows Financial Journey of Three Black Women

Prudential, in partnership with Urban One, screened Legacy Lives On at the American Black Film Festival on June 15 in Miami, and it will air publicly on TV One at 9 p.m. ET on June 19, and again on CLEO TV on June 20, 2019. The 45-minute film follows the financial journey of three black women and highlights the relationship African Americans have with money, particularly when debt, financial literacy, and systematic challenges are at play.

African American households lag sorely in wealth compared to white households. According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), black households receive an underwhelming 61.6% of the yearly income earned by an average white household. This disparity is due in part to the racial income gap in which black employees bring home 82.5 cents for every dollar white workers earn; substantially contributing to black poverty. It should come as no surprise, then, that the most recent data suggests black people are more than twice as likely to experience poverty than whites. Therefore, the timing of such a documentary is ideal.

Legacy—this type of film talks about all the things we don’t talk about,” Salene Hitchcock-Gear told BLACK ENTERPRISE. Hitchcock-Gear, the president of Prudential Individual Life Insurance, continued: “For women, especially women who are trying to move forward, we don’t have a lot of good tools to start with. It’s not normal to talk to people about savings, investments, how to get financing for anything, or just deal with budgets, or getting out of debt. This effort starts to put language in people’s hands and try to break through that environment where we don’t talk.”

Talking candidly to an entire nation about the state of their finances and the history of how they each handled money wasn’t an easy thing to do for Onikah Asamoa-Caesar, Jewel Burks-Solomon, and Audrey Hurst. However, doing so proved to be beneficial for each woman who participated in the film.

Legacy Lives On: One Solution and Prudential Documentary Highlights New Pathways to Financial Freedom and Financial Wellness for Black Americans, Private screening and VIP reception at Regal Cinema South Beach on Saturday, June 15, 2019 in Miami. (Jesus Aranguren/AP Images for Prudential Financial, Inc.)

“My experience was very interesting because it gave me an opportunity to reflect about the legacy I want to build,” Burks-Solomon shared with BE. “I had a chance to have a conversation with my mother and talk about the things she instilled in me at an early age and thank her for the things she taught me along the way and have that dialogue we haven’t had before.”

Hurst expressed her initial hesitation on disclosing her financial secrets: “I was definitely scared for people to know what I was going through financially because we don’t have those conversations as black people, but I had someone in my ear telling me to step out on faith so that’s what I did and said, ‘I’m gonna tell my story.”‘

A documentary like Legacy Lives On would not be complete without Tiffany Aliche, “The Budgetnista’s” two cents—which is nothing short of the financial wisdom she is known to impart. “It’s important to teach black women about money,” Aliche stated. “Prudential had a study where they show that black women make up to 70% of the financial decisions in the household.”

Aliche added: “That means if you want to shift the black family, community, and culture forward, then you have to do it through black women. We are essential. Without us, there would be no strong community, family, or culture. We have been left out of the conversation for too long. You see that in Legacy Lives On.”

Actor Laz Alonzo contributed to the conversation, addressing generational poverty that affects people of color: “Black and brown people are learning their worth,” Alonzo told BE. “Up until now, everyone knew our worth except us. We have the talent, we have the ability to bring crowds, and have a community to support us and bring their dollars, but where was the money going? Now we see a lot of artists buying back their materials, their intellectual property, their block—and they’re also diversifying [their earning potential]. There are so many ways to make money. It was important for Prudential to be on the leading end of that conversation.”

Other contributors include Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, motivational speaker Lisa Nichols, Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries Jr., producer Ma’at Zachary, and Prudential’s vice president of Corporate Giving Shané Harris. And while a film initiative on dialogue about money and finance may seem unlikely to screen at ABFF, it’s actually more aligned with the event than not.

“For Prudential as a financial institution, we don’t always have the right connects, through the community to actually get the message out,” Hitchcock-Gears said. “This particular festival is so much grassroots, people on the ground, that we feel like that’s the audience we’re trying to reach; the very group that needs to hear this. It includes the people here at this event. When you think about it, so many creative people don’t have consistent income. So you have to think about ‘how do I deal with that as a creative person? How do I continue my craft, but take care of myself financially?’ This is for the attendees and the creators. We think [ABFF] is a real home run and a great place for us to showcase.”

Alonzo agreed, stating “To have that film here is where a lot of people need it the most because they are the ones actually self-financing their dreams. They’re the ones trying to figure out ‘I want to make this happen, but I got a 9-to-5. How can I juggle this?’ This movie is the movie that will show you others who have done it and inspire you to not waste any more time and want to do it.”

Dior Double Dips in London

EVEN MORE DIOR: Dior is having trouble saying farewell to London — and vice-versa.
Not only has the Victoria & Albert Museum extended the run of the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition to Sept. 1 from the original closing date of July 14, the brand is staging an encore at Harrods, with a pop-up set to run for the month of August.
This year’s pop-up will run from Aug. 3 to Aug. 31 and showcase Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fall 2019 ready-to-wear collection, with the decor reprising the colors and inspirations of the show. It will be done in variations of black with green, red or white checks, and is meant to nod to British culture and the ties the house of Dior has long cultivated with England.
A telephone booth and an English taxi cab will be decorated in similar motifs.
The pop-up will sell a selection of ready-to-wear, footwear and bags, including the Dior Book Tote. Available in leather, checks or the Dior Oblique jacquard, the tote will also come in a Union Jack motif, exclusive to Harrods.
Woven bracelets, D-Connect sneakers and the bob hat created by Stephen Jones have all been reinterpreted in new green versions. The TravelDior line has been done in Dior Oblique canvas, and there is

‘Your Species Isn’t Known for Moving Quickly.’ Jon Stewart Roasts Mitch McConnell Over 9/11 Bill on The Late Show

It’s clear that Jon Stewart cares deeply about taking care of the brave men and women who were the first to arrive at the site of the World Trade Center attack on September 11th.

That’s why he went to Congress to try and convince them to fully fund the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, delivering an emotional and powerful speech to those in charge. So when Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell went on Fox and said Stewart of being “bent out of shape” for asking Congress to fund the, er, Fund and pointed out that Congress is pretty busy right now, Stewart decided he had to respond. So he stopped by his friend Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show on Monday night to once again support the people he calls “the first heroes, and veterans, and victims of the great, trillions of dollars war on terror.”

“I feel like an a–hole,” the former host of The Daily Show said on the show. “I didn’t know that they were busy. I didn’t mean to interrupt them with their jobs.” Stewart then struck back at McConnell, for not fully funding the first responders medical fund. “You love the 9/11 community when they serve your political purposes,” said Stewart,

Stewart said he recognizes that McConnell is busy, but he also said the Senate Majority Leader that if he does ignore the 9/11 First Responders, there could be unintended consequences. “You could pass this thing as a standalone bill tomorrow,” Stewart said. “If you’re busy, I get it. But just understand, the next time we have a war, or you’re being robbed, or your house is on fire, and you make that desperate call for help, don’t get bent out of shape if they show up at the last minute with fewer people than you thought were going to pay attention and don’t actually put it out. Just sort of leave it there smoldering for another five years.”

“I’m sure they’ll put it out for good when they feel like getting around to it,” Stewart said in conclusion. “No offense.”

DR Officials Identify Man Believed To Have Paid Ortiz Hitmen

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Dominican authorities on Monday identified the man they believe paid hit men to try and kill David Ortiz, adding that they were closing in on the mastermind and motive behind the shooting of the famous slugger who is recovering at a hospital in Boston.

The man was identified as Alberto Miguel Rodríguez Mota, whom authorities say is a fugitive. The announcement was made as a judge held a hearing closed to the public for another suspect nicknamed “Bone.” Officials did not release details, but according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press, the man, whose real name is Gabriel Alexánder Pérez Vizcaíno, is accused of being the liaison between the alleged hit men and the person who paid them.

RELATED: Prosecutors Believe Suspects In Ortiz Shooting Wanted In US

The documents state that a man who is in prison for an unrelated case reached out to Pérez for the alleged job a week before the June 9 shooting at a bar in Santo Domingo and sent him a picture of the target so he could share it with the hit men.

Pérez allegedly shared the picture with the other suspects as they gathered at a nearby gas station just minutes before the shooting. Officials have not said whether the picture was of Ortiz.

The documents also state that Pérez sold a gold-colored iPhone 6 used to plan the attack to a woman for $ 180 so he could get rid of the evidence a day after the shooting. Authorities claimed the phone was giving him problems and that’s why he sold it.

“He did this upon finding out that police were looking for him,” the document states.

An attorney for Pérez did not comment upon leaving the courtroom after the hearing as police whisked away the suspect, who was wearing a red T-shirt, a flak jacket and a helmet. He did not speak to reporters.

The 24-year-old suspect is one of 10 that authorities have detained, and they are looking for at least two others mentioned in the court documents, including the man accused of paying the alleged hit men.

Ortiz’s attorney, José Martínez Hoepelman, said he was satisfied with how the investigation was going.

“Trust the authorities,” he said. “They have worked tirelessly to obtain the results that we have so far. We all want more information, but we have to wait.”

Police have said the coordinator of the attack was offered 400,000 Dominican pesos, or about $ 7,800, to orchestrate the shooting of Ortiz, known as Big Papi.

He led the Red Sox to three World Series championships, was a 10-time All-Star and hit 541 home runs.

Ortiz lives in Boston but visits the Dominican Republic several times a year.

Doctors removed his gallbladder and part of his intestines before he was flown to Boston, where he remains in intensive care at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Represent Men’s Spring 2020

Designer brothers George and Michael Heaton made a few changes this season, pulling their show off the Milan runway in order to focus on a new ad campaign shot by Jordan Green. The campaign, themed around a car accident in the remote countryside and involving an English bull terrier, lands in the next few weeks on billboards and fly posters on both sides of the Atlantic.
The brothers also decamped to Rockfield Studios in Wales, recently featured in the film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” to unplug from their Manchester studio and get some fresh perspective.
The collection, on display in a Milan showroom, had more than a whiff of the countryside to it, and was done in a palette of olive green, brown, black and camel for the duo’s street-meets-utilitarian wear silhouettes. There were oversize Windbreakers inspired by fellow Mancunian Noel Gallagher, camou trousers and shorts, and hunting, field jackets and plaid coats fit for cold Welsh mornings.
The standout print featured vintage cars on T-shirts and pajama-style tops, a reference to the vintage cars parked in the driveway in front of Rockfield and to the theme of the upcoming ad campaign.

Jon Stewart Fires Back at Mitch McConnell on ‘Colbert’: Stop ‘Jacking Around’ 9/11 First Responders

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS

Jon Stewart was not about to let Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell get the last word.

After the former Daily Show host called out McConnell on Fox News Sunday for consistently waiting until the “very last minute” to offer relief to 9/11 first responders—and only doing so “under intense lobbying and public shaming”—the Senate majority leader went on Fox & Friends on Monday morning to offer a dismissive response.

“I don’t know why he is all bent out of shape, but we will take care of the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund,” McConnell insisted, adding, “It sounds to me like he is looking for some way to take offense.”

Scouted: Should a Waffle Knit Towel Replace Your Normal Bath Towel? We Find Out by Testing Three.

It’s hard to see a waffle knit towel and think that it’ll be a better, more comfortable, or more enjoyable part of your morning (or night) routine. Let’s just get this out first: These don’t look like your normal bath towels because they aren’t your normal bath towels. They aren’t fuzzy or fluffy or plush. But they’re still great to look at and even better to use. These towels are so lightweight and absorbent, I can’t see myself going back to a fluffy one. So I decided to try and find which was the best by testing three towels: the $ 39 Parachute Waffle Knit, the $ 22 Snowe Honeycomb Bath Towel, and the $ 55 Onsen towel from Amazon.

This style of towel is modeled after the towels you would receive at Japanese hot springs onsen). They’re typically made from super soft cotton and are lightweight, absorbent, and quick-drying. I tend to take showers more often than a normal person does so the quick-drying component is especially important to me. Here’s what I found:

Waffle Towels, $ 39 from Parachute: These were my overall favorite. Parachute makes some incredible textiles and these are no different. They’re soft but sturdy and while they’ll never give you the plushness a fluffy towel will, it’ll still feel soft when you wrap it around you. They’re 100% long-staple Turkish cotton and feel like something I would contemplate stealing from a fancy hotel.

Achilles Ion Gabriel Named Creative Director of Camper Lab

LONDON — Camper has tapped Finnish-born footwear designer Achilles Ion Gabriel to be its new creative director for Camper Lab, WWD has learned.
As part of the role, he will oversee the design team as well as brand communications and store designs for Camper Lab, which is a more “progressive,” experimental range by the Spanish label.
Ion Gabriel, who previously worked for the likes of Marni and Sunnei and also has his own footwear label dubbed Ion, will present his first collection in January as part of the fall 2020 season.
He said he was drawn to Camper’s heritage in shoemaking and the “creative design possibilities” the role has to offer.
The announcement of his hiring comes after former creative director Romain Kremer stepped down, earlier this month.
“Achilles is one of the most talented shoe designers of our time. I have always admired his work,” added Miguel Fluxà Ortí, chief executive officer of Camper.
