Your HelloGiggles horoscope, May 12th to May 18th: Sudden relationship changes ahead

Your HelloGiggles horoscope, May 12th to May 18th: Sudden relationship changes ahead

Your HelloGiggles horoscope, May 12th to May 18th: Sudden relationship changes ahead

We start the week on a passionate note—this is a time of deep grounding and empowerment for everyone. As I told you before, this Taurus season is all about self-care, self-love, empowerment of the self, and questioning our values and our worth. And this week, we’re really getting to the bottom of it with Venus entering Taurus with a bright conjunction to Uranus.

First of all, you can expect sudden changes in relationships. But the changes will be more symbolic. On a collective level, we’re all being pushed to relate in new ways, to others and to ourselves, to be more authentic, freer of expectations, and choosing growth over comfort. So that’s what the sudden changes are all about.

We end the week with a Scorpio full moon that is going to rock the boat in all relationships. This is the end of a cycle initiated in March—we can now breathe, so much wiser and healthier.

Let’s take a look at the weekly horoscope for each sun sign. Don’t forget to check your rising sign if you know it.

ARIES

Expect your relationships, and relating patterns in general, to be completely wiped out this week. You’re making space for a much freer, more authentic, and carefree version of yourself. All hell shall break loose!

TAURUS

Huge spiritual shifts are happening for you this week, Taurus. You have a golden opportunity to experience soul elevation, and you’re growing into your higher self. This week is all about opening your heart to compassion, kindness, and forgiveness, and this is going to be playing out mostly in your personal and business relationships. Take note of your dreams.

GEMINI

This week is focused on healing for you, Gemini. You’re plunging into the depths of your subconscious and being called to do a lot of self-exploration, an activity that will reach a peak for the full moon on Saturday. Remember to be kind to yourself, as change comes through acceptance.

CANCER

You have been working hard at your job, Cancer, and that is paying off this week not only in terms of career advancement and achievements, but also in the sense that you’re really getting to know and feel what makes you passionate. You’re being pushed to follow your heart, professionally and else. It’s a week focused on creativity and passion.

LEO

Work, work, work—your head has been focused on achievements, recognition, and praise, but this week, you’re going to get rebalanced on the opposite pole: validating yourself, and focusing on what’s going on emotionally inside you; finding out what you truly need as opposed to what looks good or what will give you popularity. Nest up and retreat within.

VIRGO

Your world has been shaken upside down for the last months, Virgo, and this week is kind of the climax of this energy. You signed up for an intellectual revolution—you must have noticed by now that truth and truths are different; a lot of your beliefs might have been shifted, and if that’s not the case yet, well, buckle up, because this week is about to bring just that.

LIBRA

Do I even need to say it? Yes, Libra, it’s about relationships this week, big surprise I know, but here is the tweak: This week for you is about confronting your feelings of worthiness and how they shape your relationships. You’re confronting whether or not you’re aware of your value(s) and whether or not your (potential) partner is aligned with them. A lot of it has to do with security—comfort vs. growth, known vs. unknown—and you can expect swift revelations and changes in relationships. Note, though, that it’s also a week that could shake up your financial situation as much as your relationship situation and, potentially, both could be linked.

SCORPIO

You can expect new beginnings and a focus on relationships this week, Scorpio. You’re at a time of self-improvement, and the work you’ve been doing on yourself is allowing you to enjoy a different energy in your relationships. Be careful not to be too hard on yourself—the goal isn’t perfection, and if you remain too much in your head, you can sabotage your efforts. Remind yourself to be connected to your body.

SAGITTARIUS

You’re swimming in deep waters this week, Sagittarius. You’re offered the chance to plunge into the depths of your psyche, and it could feel blissful or utterly confusing depending on how comfortable you are with this process. Love is still very much on the program for you this week, but you might find yourself choosing fun over soul work—be aware of your choices this week.

CAPRICORN

This week is social for you, Capricorn. It’s all about friendships and exploring hobbies and activities. It’s a nice break in your serious/all-work attitude, and you could find yourself exploring new horizons and being more spontaneous than usual. Enjoy it!

AQUARIUS

Serious breakthroughs in your career this week, Aquarius. You have a lot of mental energy to dedicate, and it’s paying off. Good idea to do things like journaling and running; you might feel a bit of mental pressure this week and could use some mental or physical exercise to blow off steam.

PISCES

This week might feel like a divine intervention for you, Pisces. A lot of the energy is about valuing yourself and loving yourself, and this persistent focus you have had on worthiness and value is paying off: your beliefs are changing, your perception is changing, and this is allowing more abundance and love into your life. A fun program for you that is the fruit of the last months’ efforts.

Horse Deaths Are Haunting the Racing World Ahead of the Kentucky Derby. Here’s What’s Being Done to Stop Them

The Kentucky Derby, which will be run for the 145th time on May 4, is the oldest continuously held major sporting event in U.S. This year, however, talk of mint juleps, stylish hats and Triple Crown dreams may be overshadowed by a disturbing spate of horse deaths — and fresh calls to regulate the sport.

Between late December and early April, nearly two-dozen Thoroughbred horses died while racing or training at California’s Santa Anita Park. The cause of the fatal injuries is unknown, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney is investigating the deaths. As with all horse injuries, multiple factors may be at play, say safety experts, including heavy rainfall that may have compromised the track surface. The track shut down for much of March and adopted several new policies, including banning the use of drugs on race day and increasing the time required for horses to be on-site prior to a race.

“While the cause of the injuries on the racetrack might be varied, they have one thing in common: the industry has yet to do everything that can be done to prevent them,” wrote Belinda Stronach, chairman and president of the Stronach Group — which owns Santa Anita — in a March open letter. “That changes today.”

That’s a small start. But reforms at one track likely won’t be enough to fix the sport’s systemic problems. Last year, 493 horses died or were euthanized within 72 hours of sustaining a catastrophic race injury. That’s about 10 horses each week. In the last ten years, a total of 6,134 horses have died. That tally doesn’t include deaths from training.

PETA and other animal-rights advocates are sounding off. So are notable horse racing organizations, which say that many horse deaths are preventable. In March, the Jockey Club, which holds the registry for Thoroughbred horses, released a scathing report calling out the sport for tolerating performance-enhancing drugs and running horses that are medicated to dull the pain of pre-existing injuries. “The issue isn’t about a single track,” the report reads. “Horse fatalities are a nationwide problem, one that has shocked fans, the industry, the regulators and the general public.”

An industry overhaul would be difficult, if not nearly impossible, to implement because horse racing has no national rule-making body. The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), which sets best safety practices, has no teeth to mandate them. Instead, 38 racing jurisdictions set their own standards.

“We are more of a carrot organization than stick,” says Steve Koch, executive director of the Safety and Integrity Alliance at NTRA, which has accredited 23 tracks. Another 40 tracks are making efforts to be accredited, while others are not engaged with the alliance at all. “We’re making progress, but are not quite there yet.”

Federal oversight is still far off. The Horseracing Integrity Act of 2019 was introduced in the House earlier this year to establish a private, independent horse racing anti-doping authority. It has 69 cosponsors, but does not have full support from the industry. Prior versions of the legislation also failed to make headway in Congress.

History has shown that reforms triggered by horse deaths roll out slowly and inconsistently, from state to state and from track to track.

For instance, after beloved Thoroughbreds Barbaro and Eight Belles died in the late 2000s, the industry began to collect fatal injury data for every U.S. track. Today, every racetrack reports injury death rates to a national database. But only a handful make those numbers public. In Kentucky, Keeneland and Turfway Park both report publicly. But Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, does not. In March, the Louisville Courier-Journal discovered via a public records request that the death rate at Churchill Downs was 2.73 per 1,000 racing starts last year—more than 60% higher than the national average.

This week, the Derby track released a list of safety initiatives that it plans to support in the coming years, as well as a statement from Churchill Downs Inc. chief executive Bill Carstanjen: “As the host of the Kentucky Derby and a key leader in the racing industry, Churchill Downs has a heightened responsibility to implement the world’s best practices for caring for racehorses at our facilities.”

The NTRA’s Koch believes that efforts over the last decade, such as curbing doping drugs and evolving veterinarian protocols, have made a difference. While the U.S. racing fatality rate rose 4% in 2018 compared to the year before, since 2009 the fatality rate has actually declined 16%, from 2 deaths per 1,000 race starts in 2009 to 1.68 last year.

More change could be underway. In mid-April, 20 leading tracks pledged to phase out a drug called Lasix in the coming years. Lasix treats a rare lung condition, but, according to the Jockey Club, it is given to about 95% of horses on race day because it induces urination. Lighter and faster, the horses perform better, but need days to recover and rehydrate.

That’s good news leading into the Kentucky Derby. This year, like every year, America will fall for — and bet on — the Thoroughbreds at Churchill Downs. Now, the racing industry is under pressure to take better care of them.

Real Talk! Keira Knightley’s Best Parenting Quotes Ahead of Baby No. 2

Real talk! Keira Knightley became a mom in 2015, and the actress has been getting candid about her kid ever since.

That being said, the Pirates of the Caribbean star kept her lips mostly zipped about her little one until after she arrived. Knightley and her husband, James Righton, didn’t formally announce that they were expecting, but instead displayed her baby bump in several haute couture gowns during press for The Imitation Game.

The model did joke with Ellen DeGeneres, though, that she might go into labor during a December 2014 episode of her show.

“My plan is to get it out,” the Teddington, London, native said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the time. [I’ll] drop it out, keep working. Pick [the baby] up, that’s my plan. That would be wonderful for television, but not so good for me.”

Knightley revealed that she and her husband are expecting their second child when she stepped out in Paris in May 2019. The actress showed off her budding belly in a white and tan off-the-shoulder dress on her way to a Chanel party.

The debut came six months after she bashed Duchess Kate’s post-baby public appearances in an essay for Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and Other Lies).

“We stand and watch the TV screen,” Knightley wrote in October 2018. “[Kate] was out of hospital seven hours later with her face made up and high heels on. The face the world wants to see. … Hide. Hide our pain, our bodies splitting, our breasts leaking, our hormones raging. Look beautiful. Look stylish, don’t show your battleground, Kate. Seven hours after your fight with life and death, seven hours after your body breaks open, and bloody, screaming life comes out. Don’t show. Don’t tell. Stand there with your girl and be shot by a pack of male photographers.”

Knightley and the musician made their relationship public in April 2011. They tied the knot in France in May 2013.

While the Love Actually star may be mum’s the word about her pregnancies, she has lots to say about her daughter over the years. Keep scrolling for a look at her best parenting quotes since welcoming Edie.

MEN’S FORUM: The Whitaker Group’s James Whitner Relies on Instinct and Close Consumer Connections to Stay Ahead

For The Whitaker Group’s founder James Whitner, being the consumer is essential to knowing the consumer.
With an assortment of stores via his company’s four retail entities — Social Status, A.P.B., Prosper and A Ma Maniére — Whitner emphasized the importance of being submerged with the people you are trying to connect with. He asked, “Are you focused on the consumer? Do you know who the consumer is and why? Most people don’t. You’re casting a wide net in men’s wear…I’m the guy. I’m the guy who’s buying the stuff and wearing the stuff.”
Aside from anticipating what his shoppers want, Whitner spoke of how he tries to design spaces that they will emotionally respond to. “I’m always trying to re-create the places and spaces I’ve been in. I feel like I have a romantic affair with the consumer in the process. Can someone cue the music? [Romantic tunes follow.] When I walk into a store, this is how I feel. I’m being romanced by the romance,” he said.
Referring to outdated business practices that can’t keep up with quick fire social media and fashion’s rapid speed of change, Whitner said, “You’ve got to set your businesses up to move like we move.

John Oliver Body Slams WWE Ahead of ‘WrestleMania’

John Oliver put aside politics for Sunday night’s episode of Last Week Tonight, and focused on professional wrestling, or as he calls it, the “only good excuse to wear a onesie.” “That’s right babies, you’re not pulling it off,” Oliver said.

While it may come as a surprise, Oliver claims he is a fan of wrestling and the WWE, which he finds “generally entertaining.” He’s not alone: The WWE has a billion fans on social media and, as per Oliver, earned $ 930.2 million in revenue last year. WrestleMania, WWE’s flagship event, rakes in more viewers than baseball’s World Series.

While WWE is fun to watch, especially compared to every other show that isn’t “a guy exploding through a table,” Oliver says there is a very dark side to the franchise, including the “shockingly high” death rates of pro wrestlers. The figure is so high—even compared to NFL players—that Oliver jokes it’s like “test pilots who lied on their resumes” or “zookeepers who aren’t going to just let some f—ing baboon talk to them like that.” While Oliver doesn’t get into specifics about the early death rate for wrestlers, he does note that WWE founder and owner Vince McMahon doesn’t provide health insurance or worker’s compensation for the stars. That’s because, according to Oliver, the WWE wrestlers are independent contractors who have exclusive contracts with the WWE and can’t work for anyone else, but are not technically employees of the company.

As Oliver explains, it’s because “McMahon plays an a—hole on TV, but is also an a–hole in real life.” According to Oliver, when you take “independent contractors working in a monopolized industry largely free from meaningful oversight who are able to be fired at any time, you wind up with huge potential for unsafe conduct.” To back up the claim, Oliver showed interviews with former wrestlers who pushed themselves to work when they were sick or injured, because if they didn’t they would not be paid and could potentially be fired. According to Oliver, the WWE is now worse than the NFL when it comes to taking care of its athletes. “When you have lost the moral high ground to the f—ing NFL you are morally subterranean,“ Oliver said.

There might be hope, though. Wrestling fans have become increasingly vocal and they genuinely care about the wrestling stars. If fans want McMahon to take better care of his employees—or even recognize them as employees—WrestleMania is coming up and, Oliver pointed out that it could be a good place to fight for change. “The event is live, the crowd is miked, they won’t be able to cut the chants out,” Oliver said. And then to make sure his point was clear “in the preferred language of wrestling of fans,” Oliver played a WWE-style ad pressing for “all your favorite wrestlers” having access to retirement accounts, workers compensation and family and medical leave.

When you consider the latest global smartphone marketshare data from Gartner, which highlights a protracted industry slump in terms of handset sales, it starts to put things in perspective — Samsung, for example, deciding it needs to dramatically shake things up and give something new a try, like a foldable phone.

Gartner’s newly released data shows, among other things, that global smartphone sales was essentially flat during the recent holiday quarter — up just 0.1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2017, with 408.4 million units shipped.

Kim Kardashian Slams Theory She’s Selling Her Looks to Fashion Nova Ahead of Time: ‘I Don’t Support What These Companies Are Doing’ [Video]

Kim Kardashian has been accused of selling her high-end designer looks to fast-fashion brands like Fashion Nova to make a profit — but the reality star says that’s not the case.

Earlier this week, Kim wore a vintage one-of-a-king Mugler dress. The following day, a knock-off version appeared on Fashion Nova’s website with a waitlist ready for purchase.

According to Kim, Fashion Nova (and other fast-fashion retailers) simply work fast in effort to capitalize on what she wore.

There’s a twist though — days before Kim wore the dress, a Fashion Nova model posted pictures of herself at a photo shoot for the knock-off version. The photos on the screen appear to be labeled labeled ‘Kim Dress.’

UPDATE: See stories for a screenshot of the date of the Capture One session (it’s labeled 02-14-19). Fashion Nova Mugler knockoff shot 4 days before Kim wore it on 02/18/19. Kim, you’ll never fess up to your sneaky lil collaborations, but we got all the receipts ?. • ????????? At some point recently, a fast fashion photo shoot happened featuring a vintage Mugler dress that @kimkardashian just happened to wear on Sunday night to the Hollywood Beauty Awards…and yes, it appears to be a real dress, not photoshop. Ahead of Fashion Nova releasing the dress at 9pm EST tonight, house model Yodit Yemane may or may not have accidentally leaked a story 2.5 hours earlier of photo options from her shoot featuring the Mugler replica. The file names were even labeled “Kim dress” while it’s now being called “Winning Beauty Cut Out Gown” lol. This begs the question: Did Fashion Nova whip up the dress overnight in their Los Angeles atelier after seeing Kim in it or is she peddling her vintage finds to mass retailers ahead of debuting them for a calculated, timely release? ????????? • ? : Getty • #kimkardashian #mugler #thierrymugler #manfredthierrymugler #bodycon #cutout #barelythere #strappy #straps #black #vintage #dress #velvet #fashionnova #wiwt #ootd #kuwtk #hollywood #beauty #kkwbeauty #kardashian #ecommerce #shady #smh #photoshoot #model #fashionmodel #dietprada

Still, Kim denies any relationship with Fashion Nova or any fast-fashion company and says she doesn’t support what they’re doing.

Dolly Parton Honored as MusiCares Person of the Year Ahead of 2019 Grammys

(LOS ANGELES) — Nobody pokes more fun at Dolly Parton — all hair, sequins, nine-inch nails and five-inch stilettos — than the country superstar herself.

Parton was celebrated for her musical achievements and philanthropic work as MusiCares Person of the Year on Friday night. She’s the first country artist to be saluted in the tribute’s 29-year history.

Garth Brooks, Brandi Carlile, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Katy Perry, Pink, Chris Stapleton and Don Henley were among those honoring the 73-year-old singer-songwriter two days before the Grammy Awards.

“All of my life I have been known for two things. Well, not them,” the well-endowed Parton joked in a bawdy acceptance speech. “I’ve also been known as a singer and songwriter too. Although I’m not complaining. Ol’ Pancho and Lefty’s been pretty good to me. Everybody always expects me to do a boob joke and I like to do that right up front.”

Surprising Parton with her award and earning a standing ovation were Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, who teamed with Parton for two successful “Trio” albums. It was a rare public appearance for Ronstadt, who can’t sing anymore because of Parkinson’s disease, which Parton mentioned.

“It has been a wonderful journey,” Parton said.

As Parton rushed to embrace Harris and Ronstadt, her award crashed to the floor. It appeared to survive intact.

Parton said people ask her about it being a man’s world when she got into the music business in the 1960s.

“I never met a man that I didn’t like and I never met a man whose (rear) I couldn’t kick if he didn’t treat me with the right respect,” she said, drawing raucous cheers.

Earlier, Parton watched from the audience while other performers sampled her vast catalog.

Wearing a black jacket with Parton’s visage on the back, Pink kicked off the evening with a powerhouse rendition of the man-stealing song “Jolene.”

Gospel singer Yolanda Adams received a standing ovation for “I Will Always Love You,” the Parton-penned song famously covered by Whitney Houston.

“Yolanda, you killed that,” said Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town.

Cyrus, who is Parton’s goddaughter, and Mendes dueted on “Islands in the Stream” with Mark Ronson on guitar. Grammy nominee Carlile and Nelson sang “Everything’s Beautiful (In Its Own Way).”

“We love you, Doll,” Nelson said.

Backed by a horn section, Stapleton tackled “9 to 5,” getting the audience clapping along to Parton’s ode to empowered yet challenged working women.

Musgraves and Perry teamed up on “Here You Come Again,” with Perry decked out in lilac fringe with matching boots and cowboy hat.

“We want to be just like her when we grow up,” Perry told the crowd.

Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood teamed up on “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle To You,” sealing it with a kiss.

Henley and Vince Gill strummed guitars on “Eagle When She Flies.”

Backed by a choir, Leon Bridges and Mavis Staples took the crowd to church on “Not Enough.” Bridges got into the spirit of the evening with white cowboy boots and a denim jacket with his name and a white horse on the back and red barn patch on the front.

“It’s been such a thrill for me tonight to see all these great artists singing songs I’ve written or been a part of,” Parton said. “Watching them is sort of like watching porn. You’re not personally involved but you still get off on it.”

The crowd roared and Parton said, “Hey, don’t blame me. At my age you’ll take anything you can get.”

She closed the evening by performing “Coat of Many Colors.

“I had my nails too long to pick tonight because I’m gettin’ ready for the Grammys,” Parton explained in having Linda Perry play guitar.

Friday’s dinner and auction at the Los Angeles Convention Center generated more than $ 6.7 million, Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said.

MusiCares, run by the Recording Academy, provides financial assistance to individuals in the music industry during times of financial, medical and personal need.

“Of course you know we hillbillies need MusiCares too,” Parton said. “We may not have sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll, but two out of three ain’t bad.”

Podcast: KHN’s ‘What The Health?’ Live From D.C.: A Look Ahead At Health Policy In 2019

(From left) Tom Miller, Kimberly Leonard, Anna Edney, Joanne Kenen and Julie Rovner(Lynne Shallcross/KHN)

The 2020 presidential campaign has begun and health is a big part of it, with Democratic candidates pledging their support for “Medicare-for-all” and many of its variations.

Meanwhile, Republicans and Democrats are both promising to do something about drug prices and “surprise” medical bills. But whether they can translate that agreement on the broad problem to a detailed solution remains to be seen.

This week’s panelists for KHN’s “What the Health?” are Julie Rovner of Kaiser Health News, Joanne Kenen of Politico, Anna Edney of Bloomberg News and Kimberly Leonard of The Washington Examiner. Joining the panel for this week’s live show was Tom Miller of the American Enterprise Institute.

Among the takeaways from this week’s podcast:

  • The early jockeying among Democrats running for president is likely to overshadow any efforts to make changes to the Affordable Care Act or help stabilize its insurance marketplaces.
  • Legislative remedies for the ACA marketplaces are expected to hit the same roadblock that senators found in 2017: demands by conservatives that plans operating in those insurance exchanges be banned from offering abortion coverage.
  • Although the general idea of expanding Medicare garners high public support, if Democrats agree on a plan to push forward, it could be expected to meet strong opposition from the health care industry.
  • Republicans and Democrats have expressed interest in moving legislation to help lower drug prices. One area where they could find common ground might be revisions to the patent laws to help spur more lower-cost generic drugs.
  • Both parties also say they are concerned about surprise bills that patients receive after receiving medical care. Still, there is no consensus on how to approach the problem, and industry stakeholders are split on what remedies the country should take.

The panelists also discussed Anna Edney’s series on the dangers of generic drugs. You can read her stories here, here and here.

A woman’s inner circle is how she gets ahead, study says

TwitterFacebook

The female-only networks that women use to share job openings, pass on interview tips, or even just complain about that time their boss interrupted them in a meeting are integral to their success.

That’s what new research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences from the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern says, proving that yes, that female-only group email chain is, in fact, vitally important.

Researchers studied social networks and their role in job placement by looking at email messages sent by over 700 graduates of a U.S. business school who were placed in varying levels of leadership positions. According to the Notre Dame press site, the researchers then compared the networks’ size or “centrality,” gender composition, and connection strength. Read more…

Toya Wright Sends An Important Message To Fans Ahead Of Christmas With A Family Photo – People Say That Reigny Is The Spitting Image Of Her Dad

Toya Wright wanted to express something very important with her latest photo and message that she shared on her social media account. Check it out below:

Toya wrote ‘put down your phone and step away from the computer. Enjoy your family this holiday season. Happy Holidays from our Family to yours. 🎅🏽🎄🎁

Someone said ‘And meanwhile Your whole Entire Family is on phones and computers 😂🤣😂. Very Beautiful Family photo ❤’ Of course, Toya only wanted to highlight her message with the picture which is somewhat a sarcastic one.

Someone else said ‘Toya, you and your hubby and the baby was pretending for the camera, the two older girls were using their phone for real I’m sure lol.’

One of Toya’s fans said that Reingy looks just like her dad: ‘Reign looks JUST like her father OMGEEEEE!!!! Beautiful family❤

Another commenter posted ‘I am Happy to see you and your family so Happy. May God continue to Bless you, and I pray that he gives you all of your hearts desires. Blessings Sis.’

One other supported also believes that Reigny is Robert’s twin: ‘Reign don’t look exactly like her daddy ….he spit her out literally. She is him all over again.’

In other news, there were some rumors claiming that Toya and Robert made their relationship official, but it turned out that the rumors are not accurate.

It all began from a clip of TI And Tiny’s: Friends And Family Hustle, released on the 17th of December, Toya joked to Tiny that she and Robert had decided to get married privately. But it was only a joke.

The Winemakers and Champagne Houses Making Their Mark With U.S. Consumers Ahead of New Year’s Eve

Thanksgiving is all but a distant memory now. Black Friday and Cyber Monday, just fleeting moments as we make the usual motions through the holiday shopping season.

Amid all the consumerism is (sometimes) some yuletide fun, often shepherded by warm spirits, mulled wines, and–of course–bubbly bottles of Champagne.

Always an easy gift for a host or hostess at a holiday party, there are many new options for U.S. consumers to consider as a number of smaller (as well as familiar) French houses have started to bring their trademark sparkling wines across the Atlantic.

Champagne Pommery Blanc de BlancsChampagne Pommery

Champagne

Champagne Pommery: Newly released, the Pommery Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, sourced from the northern terrain of the Montagne de Reims and the hills of Nogent l’Abbesse. According to the winemakers, this particular terroir combination lends a special springlike freshness to the cuv?e. The bubbly offers subtle floral notes of jasmine as well as acacia, linden, and citrus fruit, notably fresh apple and yellow grapefruit. SRP: $ 67.

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte’s signature One Fo(u)r bottles

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte: Perhaps the most ready for your holiday f?tes that surely will end up on Instagram, Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte has a number of options to wow guests, starting with pint-sized Champagne bottles. (Maybe a bit gauche, but then again, no glassware that needs to be cleaned. Just toss in the recycle bin after). The single-serve bottles, in either the traditional Brut R?serve or Brut Ros?, also come with–wait for it–a wrist strap for making it easy to carry around the party. (Certainly solves the problem of where to put your drink while trying to eat at a cocktail party.)

For something a little more serious, but no less fun, are the 2018 Limited-Edition Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte “Enchanted Meadow” bottle with an elaborate holiday wonderland-inspired exterior as well as the very high-end Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte’s Palmes d’Or, one of the house’s finest crus aged for at least six years to advance the delicate flavor. SRP: $ 13 for the Signature One Fo(u)r 87-milliliter bottles; $ 36 for the Enchanted Meadow; $ 136-$ 200 for the Palmes d’Or.

Mo?t & Chandon ChampagneMo?t & Chandon

Mo?t & Chandon: As one of the world’s largest wine producers, Mo?t & Chandon isn’t taking the holiday season off. The 149-year-old house is releasing a limited edition series of”Art-de-Vivre” bottles, featuring iconic Parisian elements such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre as well as images synonymous with the brand, like a champagne tower and the logo neck ties. SRP: $ 39.99 for the Mo?t Imp?rial Brut; $ 49.99 for the Mo?t Imp?rial Ros?; and $ 59.99 for the Mo?t Nectar Imp?rial Blanc, touted by the house to be “tropical, exciting, and daring” with flavors of pineapple and mango.

Luc Belaire
Luc Belaire Brut GoldLuc Belaire

Sparkling Wine

Luc Belaire: Crafted by a 5th- and 6th-generation father-and-son team at a 118-year-old house in Burgundy, Luc Belaire might not be able to implement the official “Champagne” label given its geographical location, but it does reside in the heart of one of the world’s most well-known and respected wine regions. Produced from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, Belaire Brut Gold is a versatile option as its winemakers tout it as ideal for pairing with nearly any menu. To get a better idea of what you’re working with, the Brut Gold, the latest addition to the Luc Belaire portfolio, sports a hint of stone fruits (pear and peach) and brioche with a dry finish. For the dosage, Luc Belaire uses organic sugar cane, which the company says offers more structure to the wine while leaning on a style popularized during the 1920s. SRP: $ 30-$ 35.

Frank Family NV Brut RoseFrank Family Vineyards

Frank Family Vineyards: For something also outside of the traditional Champagne region but inspired by the style all the same is Frank Family Vineyards in California’s Napa Valley. The 2014 Sparkling Brut Ros?, a blend of 88% Pinot Noir grapes and 12% Chardonnay, is made in the traditional French method in which the secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle. The wine is then rested on the spent yeast cells for two and a half years before disgorgement. Almost millennial pink to its core, the Brut Ros? will likely impress oenophiles of any age or experience with wine thanks to its balanced palate of summery, fruit flavors (namely strawberry sherbert, orange peel, and red cherry) with a number of toasty and creamy nuances. SRP: $ 55.

“Prosecco Pie” by Ruffino and the Little Pie CompanyThe Little Pie Company

Something Extra…

Prosecco Pie: Not everyone is a sparkling wine lover. But what if I told you that you could consume sparkling wine–namely a very familiar Italian varietal–in…pie form? For over 33 years, Manhattan’s The Little Pie has gained a cult following–including with some familiar names like Oprah and Sarah Jessica Parker. This holiday season, The Little Pie Company collaborated with Tuscan wine producer Ruffino to produce a seasonal pie inspired by the apple and citrus flavors in the Italian winemaker’s signature Prosecco. The real star here is the topping to the pie rather than the filling itself, with strands of salted caramel criss-crossing a bed of brown sugar and warm apples. The pies are available in 5-inch and 10-inch sizes–the former of which comes with, naturally, a mini bottle of Ruffino Prosecco. SRP: $ 9.50 for the 5-inch version and $ 45 for the full-sized pie, plus shipping for delivery nationwide.
