‘Project Runway All-Star’ Helen Castillo Designs Jumpsuit for Blue Man Group

DOWNTOWN BLUES: For the first time in 27 years, the Blue Man Group is adding a new item to their wardrobe. “Project Runway All-Star” Helen Castillo has created a jumpsuit for the three performance artists and, unlike their stage makeup, the design is not entirely blue.
Raised in New York, the designer attended an arts magnet middle school and subsequently saw her share of traditional Broadway shows. “Kids at school would always boast about their parents or the ‘cool aunt’ taking them to see this show. I grew up knowing it [BMG] as a household name. When I was invited to see a night showing of BMG, I couldn’t believe how close it was to St. Marks Place, where I hung out as a teenager getting my first tattoo and piercings,” she said. “It was refreshing to know there’s still an authentic New York tradition being maintained at Astor Place Theatre.”
Seen by 35 million people worldwide, the show is relatable to Castillo, who likes getting creative, messy and having fun. “Typically, I am inspired by paintings or art movements, so this opportunity was a stroke of fate. Brewers All-Star Josh Hader’s Racism Controversy May Be History Repeating Itself

Stacy Revere/Getty

The real hero in this Josh Hader racist-ass tweets story isn’t the internet snoop who dug up the pure horseshit he wrote when he was seventeen years old and posted it while he was giving up a three-run blast to Mariners shortstop Jean Segura in Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game (that’s not to say they didn’t do excellent posting, of course—dredging up old racist crap to hold someone accountable is good as hell). No, the hero here is pretty much everyone who has any stake in Josh Hader’s success. Because how the fuck, in 2018, did his girlfriend (who works in PR), his agent, his family, the management of the Brewers, the management of every minor league squad he ever played for, his friends, his lawyer, his teammates, his goddamn dentist, for Christ’s sake, not sit down, grab this idiot by the shoulders, and tell him to scrub everything he posted on the internet before he turned twenty?

I find it pretty hard to believe that Josh Hader is just so decent seeming, a kind and warm presence to everyone he has ever met, constantly giving money to charities and progressive causes, that it never occurred to anyone that he might have done some messed-up posting in his life. No, the only rational conclusion here is that all of these people knew that Hader could be prone to doing something like this when he wore the clothes of a younger man, and they decided, for the good of Josh and for the good of society at large, that letting him get caught and publicly shamed during the climax of his professional life was the only moral option; the only way to allow the universe to force Hader to atone for his youthful racism, homophobia and misogyny.

There is simply no feasible way this oversight could be an oversight at all: this was a deliberate action undertaken by dozens of people designed to drag the hideousness of Hader’s racism into the harsh light of day, hold it on display for all to see, and communicate a lesson to the youth of America who hope to someday play professional sports: it will be found, you will be punished. Clean up your act, check your goddamn privilege and quit being a vile shithead or society will scorn you.

MLB Pitcher Apologizes After Racist and Homophobic Tweets Surface During All-Star Game

A pitcher’s Major League Baseball All-Star debut was tainted Tuesday night as years-old racist, homophobic and sexist tweets from his account surfaced and started to trend on Twitter during the game.

Immediately afterwards, Josh Hader, a 24-year-old Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, apologized and told reporters he was “young, immature and stupid” when he posted the tweets.

“There’s no excuse for what was said, and, you know, I’m deeply sorry for what I’ve said and what’s been going on,” he said. “It doesn’t reflect any of my beliefs going on now.”

The tweets, many of them from seven years ago when Hader was 17, spurred controversy and uproar from MLB fans and viewers during the All-Star game.

Hader’s Twitter account did not appear to be active Wednesday morning. According to screenshots shared by numerous Twitter users, Hader posted tweets in 2011 that included racist, sexist and homophobic slurs – including one that read “white power.”

Months after posting the tweets, Hader was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2012 MLB draft. He joined the Brewers in 2015.

“I assume when you’re a kid you just tweet what’s on your mind,” Hader said Tuesday night.

Hader gave up a 3-run home run during his appearance in the All-Star game, which helped the American League defeat Hader’s National League team 8-6.

The MLB has not yet released a statement regarding the situation, but Dan Halem, the league’s chief legal officer, said baseball officials may consider commenting later this week, according to the Los Angeles Times. Hader told reporters after the MLB All-Star game he is willing to accept any punishment that comes as a result of the tweets.

As the controversy unraveled during the game, fans wearing shirts with Hader’s name reportedly turned them inside out and officials gave members of his family wearing his jersey generic ones, according to Yahoo Sports.

Hader’s racist tweets are just the latest to raise questions about whether young athletes should be held responsible for their behavior on social media in the past. With the internet, the racist, homophobic, sexist or offensive thoughts of a teenager can be resurfaced years later. Earlier this year, a number of tweets with racist language from top NFL draft pic Josh Allen emerged, according to Yahoo Sports.

Allen, who drafted to the Buffalo Bills, had a similar excuse for the tweets. The 22-year-old told ESPN he was “young and dumb” when he posted the tweets several years ago in high school.

‘Uncle Drew’ Cast Picks Their All-Star Dream Team Out Of Their Other Costars

After appearing as an old man known as Uncle Drew in a series of Pepsi commercials, basketball superstar Kyrie Irving is bringing the geriatric character to the big screen in a feature film of the same name.

The athlete’s first movie role finds him getting a group of his old basketball-playing friends together in order to head out onto the court once more. And those friends just happen to be played by basketball legends Shaquille O’Neal, Nate Robinson, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber, and Lisa Leslie. Oh, and best of all, they’re all aged to appear in their 70s and 80s, as well.

While the cast, even as elders, can clearly kill it on the basketball court, FANDOM wanted to know who they’d choose to be on their team when it comes to just living everyday life.

We asked the stars, including stars Lil Rel Howery and Nick Kroll, which of their castmates they’d trust to babysit their children and who they’d want to go on a long road trip with like their characters do in the film.

And thanks to a hilarious dance sequence in the middle of the movie, we asked the gang which athlete or actor they’d most like to choreograph a routine with. Luckily for us, the question led to Leslie and Robinson showing off some impromptu moves of their own.

Check out the video above to see who the cast drafts for their dream team and catch Uncle Drew in theaters now.

All-Star race shakeup goes well and NASCAR should try again

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) Something had to be done to NASCAR’s annual All-Star race, which had stopped being special years ago. A bunch of drivers circled around Charlotte Motor Speedway in cars too difficult to pass for the lead, so whoever had the clean air raced to an easy $ 1 million prize.

Fergie’s NBA All-Star Game National Anthem Confuses, Amuses

Singer Fergie performs the national anthem prior to an NBA All-Star basketball game.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fergie tried something different with her national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game, and not everybody was cheering.

The Black Eyed Peas singer’s slow, bluesy rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday night wasn’t particularly well received at Staples Center or on social media before the 67th edition of the NBA’s annual showcase.

A low chuckle rumbled through the sold-out arena after Fergie finished the first line of the song with a throaty growl on “the dawn’s early light.”

Fans throughout the star-studded crowd reacted with varying levels of bemusement and enthusiasm while her languid, 2 ½-minute version of the song continued. Although Fergie was on pitch, her tempo, musical accompaniment and sexy delivery were not exactly typical for a sporting event or a patriotic song.

Golden State All-Star Draymond Green captured the mood — and became an instant GIF — when he was shown open-mouthed on the scoreboard and the television broadcast in apparent confusion over the unique vocal stylings. Green then chuckled to himself after realizing he was on TV.

After a forceful finish, Fergie finally got big cheers when she shouted, “Let’s play some basketball!”

The Grammy Award-winning singer, born Stacy Ann Ferguson, is from nearby Hacienda Heights, California.

Famed basketball commentator Charles Barkley joked that he “needed a cigarette” after Fergie’s performance during the TNT halftime show.

Former Lakers star Shaquille O’Neal leaped to Fergie’s defense, saying: “Fergie, I love you. It was different. It was sexy. I liked it. Leave her alone.”

Others on social media weren’t as kind, with criticism of the performance outpacing the positive reviews.

The Forum in nearby Inglewood, California, was the site of arguably the most famous national anthem in sports history during another NBA All-Star Game 35 years ago.

Marvin Gaye’s touching rhythm-and-blues version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 1983 game was initially criticized, but has since gained widespread acceptance as a groundbreaking musical performance.

Instead, Fergie is more likely to join the long list of curious versions of the anthem, even though she showed far more impressive vocal chops than the likes of Roseanne Barr or Carl Lewis.
