An ‘It’s Always Sunny’ dream came true for Mac and it’s so pure

TwitterFacebook

Mac finally got his game of catch.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans should remember that Mac (creator Rob McElhenney) dreams of playing catch with retired Phillies second baseman Chase Utley. It almost happened in the sixth season of the FX series, in the episode “The Gang Gets Stranded in the Woods.” But, well… the gang got stranded in the woods.

Now, almost 10 years after that episode aired, the dream came true. Utley threw out the Phillies’ ceremonial first pitch on Friday — part of his retirement ceremony — and McElhenney was there — as Mac, to be clear — to catch.

Mac’s history as an Utley fan goes back even further that his missed game of catch. We first learned how hard he stanned back in Season 5, when Dee reads a letter that Mac wrote to the ball player. He asked for a game of catch, complained about his dad, and complimented Utley’s hair choices. Read more…

Review: Always Be My Maybe Is Maybe Almost Good. Is That Good Enough?

It’s ridiculous that Hollywood can go for 25 years without making a single movie featuring a predominantly Asian cast: That’s the number of years stretching between 1993’s The Joy Luck Club and last year’s Crazy Rich Asians, and there’s no excuse for it. But while movies need more representation of all kinds of people, we should also be demanding that those movies aspire to a certain level of quality. The Netflix romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe has so much going for it: Two appealing leads, Ali Wong and Randall Park (both of whom also wrote the script, with Micheal Golamco); an assortment of likable supporting players; and a sly, witty cameo from Keanu Reeves. Some of the writing is sparkling. Joke for joke, there’s probably just enough to keep you laughing. But if Always Be My Maybe isn’t terrible, it’s still lackluster enough to make you feel that underserved and underrepresented audiences deserve more.

Park and Wong play Marcus and Sasha, San Francisco natives who were fast friends as kids and into their teen years, but who have grown apart in adulthood. As a child, Sasha was largely left on her own by her hardworking Chinese-immigrant parents; she found a welcoming warmth in Marcus’s household, and his mother, Judy (Susan Park), would let her help with the cooking: “We Koreans use scissors for everything,” she explains, snipping away at a handful of green onions as she prepares a kimchi stew.

But when Marcus and Sasha are teenagers, Judy dies suddenly. Sasha tries to comfort her best friend; the two end up sleeping together, with disastrous results. Fast-forward 15 years: Sasha has become an enormously successful chef in Los Angeles. Marcus has stayed put in San Francisco, working in his father’s air-conditioning business. At night, he plays in a band that’s going nowhere (it’s called Hello Peril), and that seems to suit him just fine; he believes his widowed dad, Harry (played, charmingly, by James Saito), needs him close by.

Sasha and Marcus reconnect, not-so-accidentally, when Sasha moves back to San Francisco temporarily to start a new restaurant. Things are rocky at first; Marcus has a loopy, artsy girlfriend (Vivian Bang, spacey and bright) who’s nice enough but all wrong for him. Sasha, recently dumped by her way-too-slick fiancé (Daniel Dae Kim), is trying to date—a possible dream guy seems dreamy, until he isn’t. Eventually, as you’ve probably guessed, the sparks reignite between Marcus and Sasha, and the sex is much better the second time around. But the story needs something to drive them apart again: Insert predictable, manufactured crisis here.

The plot points in Always Be My Maybe—the directorial debut of Nahnatchka Khan, who has worked in TV as a writer and producer—are strung together in a way that’s rote and predictable. That’s not to say that romantic comedies need an excessive number of twists; the basic formula is one of the great pleasures of the genre by itself. But you want to enjoy spending time with characters, not feeling that you’re simply stumbling with them toward some predestined finish line. Always Be My Maybe has that made-for-the-small-screen quality, almost a movie but not quite—it feels rushed, rough and a bit too casual, as if the script needed just another draft or two. The sets could have used a few more dollars thrown their way, and some of the scenes might have benefited from a few more takes. It’s hard not to feel that audiences deserves better.

Still, some of the jokes in Always Be My Maybe work marvelously. Marcus’s dad is star-struck when he sees Sasha, rich and successful, for the first time in years: “You’re like our own Asian Oprah!” And then, a beat later, he asks sincerely: “How much money do you have now?” Attending the lavish birthday party her parents are throwing for their eight-year-old godchild, Sasha reflects on her own upbringing, grousing, “Do you know what my parents gave me for my eighth birthday? Flip-flops.” And Reeves is wise, wicked and wonderful in his small role. While dining in one of those tony modern minimalist establishments, he politely quizzes the waiter, “Let me ask, do you have any dishes that play with time? With the concept of time?” It’s one of those perfectly silly lines that hangs there in space, in search of a better movie. For now, it’s parked in Always Be My Maybe, and that will just have to do.

The Cannes Red Carpet Tried to Go Edgy, but Fairytale Glamour Always Wins

Photo Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily Beast

The first Cannes Film Festival was held in 1946, and seventy years later, celebrities still show up dressed as Hitchcock starlets and matinee idols.

Victoria’s Secret models step onto the red carpet wearing yards of tulle to channel old Hollywood glamour (and maybe shield themselves from probable ex Leonardo DiCaprio). Indie director Jim Jarmusch trades in his usual cotton button-up for a suit and tie. Even the paparazzi wear tuxedos while yelling and straining to get their shots.

Cannes, which lasts 11 days but feels like an endless merry-go-round of schmoozy dinners and private yacht parties, has earned a reputation as the glitziest film festival in existence. The infamous dress code insists women wear heels to premieres and that men suit up, too.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen Matched Their 2019 Met Gala Looks As You Always Knew They Would

Tom Brady has made some distinctive sartorial choices and the 2019 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit is no exception.

The quarterback for the New England Patriots wore a classic maroon tuxedo for the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme at the 2019 Met Gala. Since the football player married supermodel Gisele Bündchen ten years ago, he’s become an expected attendee of the gala each year.

Apparently aware of his fashion clout by association, Brady posted black-and-white photos to his Twitter and Instagram accounts before the event, asking followers to guess which color he’d chosen for his traditional attire.

Brady and Bündchen matched on the pink carpet, as they typically do at the Met Gala, both wearing shades of pink. Bündchen’s stunning Dior gown shows that fashion can be both “beautiful and sustainable,” she wrote on Instagram.

People loved poking fun at everything from his 2018 Met Gala look to the time he wore a ridiculously large coat.

Even the Patriots are getting in on Brady’s comedic notoriety. The team’s Twitter account shared which hockey, baseball and basketball teams were matched up for Monday night — and Tom Brady is just his own league entirely.

At last year’s event, he wore a black tuxedo with a turtleneck sweater underneath and gold-adorned lapels, matching Bündchen, who wore a gold gown by Versace.

At the 2017 event, he wore a dark suit jacket, black bowtie and white button-down to match Bündchen’s metallic silver dress. But the football star was also the best Instagram husband, taking photos of his model wife on the carpet. Who needs paparazzi when you have Brady’s photography skills?

Signs His Work Will Always Come First

workaholic husband

Source: MesquitaFMS / Getty

There’s nothing wrong with an ambitious partner. In fact, ambition is one of the things I find most attractive in a man and is a requirement, in fact, for me, in a partner. I equate ambition with passion so a man without ambition is also a man without passion and that is nobody I want to be near. But, to be ambitious only serves us to a certain point. We have to remember that the entire reason we are ambitious is so we can acquire a level of stability so that, from there, we can enjoy the things that really matter like family and relationships. Some men get so caught up in the means to the end that they don’t pause to appreciate the end when they get there. What I mean is that some men don’t even enjoy things like love and family once they have it, and you don’t really want to spend your life with someone like that. Here are early signs his work will always come first.

He’s often absent-minded

You have to ask him often if he’s listening. He wasn’t. He “Had a lot on his mind” so you have to repeat yourself. You can’t usually get his attention in a conversation without asking him, multiple times, if he’s okay or if he’s listening. His work consumes his mind.

Ninja Says There’s ‘Always Going to Be Trash Talk’ Online, But It’s Up to Parents to Help Police It

Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who scored a legion of fans with Fortnite livestreams that have hooked millions, says trash-talking in the online gaming community needs to be monitored – but said it’s up to parents to help police it, too.

“There’s always that friendly banter. Sometimes it gets a little rough,” Ninja, one of the 2019 TIME 100 honorees, said at the TIME 100 Gala Tuesday. “But I think that in general just the Internet as a whole is a place where people can say whatever they want with anonymity. It always needs to be monitored and people need to always be careful.”

But, he added: “I challenge parents to make sure that they’re reading their children’s tweets and their comments on Instagram posts and monitoring them. You know, be good parents.”

Thanks to the blue-haired pro gamer’s mastery of the insanely popular game, he’s extended his staggering reach into an offline empire. Blevins came to the TIME 100 Gala on Tuesday night in New York City to celebrate with the latest crop of luminaries

He said that becoming a professional gamer is incredibly difficult, but it’s achievable with hard work and dedication.

“I think you put your whole heart into what you want. And if you have the time — which everyone has the time — you can play 8 hours a day and still have 8 hours left in your day to go to school, do well, go to work. And even with a full-time job, you can still put in 8 hours,” he said.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster took part in Ninja’s iconic record-smashing stream last year that drew Drake and Travis Scott, drawing more than 600,000 viewers so it was only fitting that Smith-Schuster wrote Ninja’s TIME 100 profile.

“I was among the millions of people all across the world who had been watching Ninja play ‘Fortnite,’ the popular video game, every day for months,” he wrote in TIME. “He was the unquestioned best in the world at his craft, something I had so much respect for both as an athlete and as a fan. Now, he was single-handedly blending gaming and pop culture.”

Ben Foden confesses he’ll always love ex-wife Una Healy and regrets cheating on her in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins

BEN Foden as admitted he’ll always love his ex-wife Una Healy and regrets cheating on her in candid admission on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The rugby ace, who announced his divorce from Una on dating app Bumble last August, is in a new relationship with gym bunny Miriam Murphy.

Ben Foden as admitted he’ll always love his ex-wife Una Healy and regrets cheating on her in candid admission on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins[/caption]

Speaking on tonight’s Stand Up To Cancer special on Channel 4, Ben admitted: “My life’s a bit of a mess. I’ll always love Una. She’s my first love and the mother of my kids. I never meant to hurt her in the way I did.

“I think it’s quite appropriate to do a course like this to put some perspective on everything.”

Love rat Ben previously insisted his infidelity was not the only reason for their divorce.

The sportsman and the pop star announced their split last summer amid claims that Foden had cheated on his wife during her second pregnancy.

However, Foden has confirmed that he was unfaithful.

And he claimed he deserves all the negative publicity, saying: “at the moment anything that’s published about me is never very good and pretty rightly so because I was the one who committed adultery.”

In an interview with the Guardian, he revealed: “At the same time, it wasn’t the only reason for our divorce to go through.

“It’s not ideal, but we’re very amicable, we’re getting through it, we’re not the first people in the world to get divorced. We’ve got two little kids we adore.”

Foden, 33, tied the knot with former Saturdays star Una in Ireland in 2012. The pair have two children, daughter Aoife Belle, six and Tadhg, four.

The family had planned to relocate to the US last autumn as Foden had signed for New York team Rugby United.

Yet their plans were left in tatters after Una discovered his infidelity.

Foden continued with the move while Una has remained behind, dividing her time between the UK and Ireland.

The flame-haired stunner has also found love again with Irish hurling star David Breen. After initially keeping their romance under wraps, she recently took to social media to share snaps of them together.

Meanwhile, Foden is enjoying career success in America, but he admitted the move stateside has been difficult because he misses his family.

He explained: “It’s hard because I’m away from my son and daughter.

Una is now dating David Breen and the pair recently enjoyed a sunshine break in Mauritius

“But I know they’re in a great and loving environment with Una because she’s a great mum. We never argue about that.”

The sports star was left red-faced last year when it emerged he had set up a profile on dating app Bumble just weeks after his split from Una.

Yet he has now revealed that his estranged wife actually set up the account with him, explaining: “I picked up Una from the airport a couple of weeks after we’d first been here, and we were sort of joking about dating.

“So I loaded up Bumble, and we did the profile together, joking around.

“And then I realised something dodgy was going on with it and the next day it was all over the paper.

“It’s not ideal, but at least I can laugh about it and especially so with Una. If she hadn’t known about it I can see it would have been a bit of a knife in the back.

“But we were messing around, so we can laugh and she can call me a bit of an idiot.”

Question you always wanted to ask flight attendants

Whether you’re interviewing for a brand new flight attendant or finally want to grow your wings and fly, there are five questions and good answers that often come up at interviews.

What would you do in an emergency?

Flight attendants need to be responsible for looking after the passengers and crew while in the air – even in an emergency. Interviewers will often look for people who can make decisions quickly while still keeping calm. Reassuring the interviewer you would fit your own oxygen mask before helping others and talking them through the structured emergency plan are two ways you can demonstrate you know how to remain calm under pressure.

What would you do if someone was frightened of flying?

Many passengers can become irritated during flights and is likely to be something that many flight attendants need to deal with in their careers. One of the most essential skills to demonstrate is empathy teamed with a positive attitude. People in the interview should state how they would ask if the passenger was alright before offering anything that might help put them at ease, and reassuring the passenger anxiety while flying is a common issue.

How would you cope with someone ignoring the safety instructions?

This is a way to show the interviewer that you have conflict management skills as you try and calm down a passenger and explain the importance of listening to the safety instructions. If that doesn’t work, then stating how you could ask for help from other cabin crew and inform the pilot as a last resort are also good answers that show how you think on your feet and work as part of a team.

How would you cope with conflict with a co-worker?

Working as a flight attendant means you will often be close to many other people all trying to do their job. Many of us have had conflict with co-workers in the past, and it’s important to demonstrate how we overcame the barriers. Offering up examples of what happened and explaining how you were both able to put the situation behind you is an excellent place to start. Be sure not to blame anyone else for the conflict in your answer.

How do you handle new environments?

Of course, being a flight attendant means you will be traveling all around the world and need to adapt to many new environments along the way. This answer is a way to describe that you are flexible, know how to adjust to and learn about other cultures, and are willing to discover any new country along the way. Examples of how you have done this in the past can help to showcase your adaptability to change.

Being a flight attendant means we often get to fly all around the world, but there can be many valuable skills that come with the job. The interview is the perfect time to learn all about these key talents while letting your personality shine through at the same time.

Getting a Tax Refund is Not Always Good

Despite the news that more tax paying Americans will have to pay more taxes due to Trump’s “tax cut,” many people are anticipating their tax refund. What has been celebrated as “bonus money,” is actually a financial facade of a bigger issue. The most common cause of a tax refund is tax credits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), for low-income households, particularly with children. Also, entrepreneurs and homeowners are able to leverage qualified tax deductions, which can produce hefty tax refunds. However, if you receive a large tax refund, but do not qualify for the EITC and are not a home or business owner, then, Houston, we (may) have a problem, as the saying goes. Here’s why getting a tax refund is not always good.

3 Reasons Why Getting a Tax Refund is Not Always Good:

Gives the Government an Interest-Free Loan

Outside of tax credits, like the EITC, or business and homeowner tax deductions, a tax refund is the payment of overpaid taxes to the government throughout the year by an individual or household.

“Essentially, a tax refund is an interest-free loan that consumers give to the government,” explains Edeline Dryden, CEO of Dryden Tax & Accounting Services.

Cheats You of Needed Cash

As workers wait for their tax refund, they are giving the government the use of their hard earned money to run or “shutdown” the government. This leaves many workers to struggle financially, living paycheck to paycheck throughout the year.

The amount of income from the paycheck withheld for taxes is determined by the W-4 completed when hired. The reality is the last time the W-4 was updated was when the person started their job.

Neglecting to update or complete the W-4 correctly can cause the over payment of taxes to the government.

Dryden suggests “Review and/or update your W-4 at least annually, as necessary. The goal is to keep that income in your paycheck to use throughout the year.”

More Money Magnifies Bad Money Behaviors

As Biggie Smalls said, “More money, more problems.” If a person has poor spending habits, having access to more money will just magnify that bad behavior. Even with good intentions of saving and paying off debt, financial fornicators may surrender to the temptation of excessive spending of the “bonus money.”

“If spending habits are questionable,” Dryden advises “divide the refund into three even categories. These categories can include savings for emergencies, debt repayment, and spending for pleasure or necessity.”

By breaking the refund into these three categories, you will start a savings safety net, knock down some debt, and enjoy some of the cash so you won’t feel deprived.

Dryden also shares a few ways to make sure you get the most out of your paycheck throughout the year:

Adjust withholding to get your money throughout the year

If you have life changes, like a marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, death of a spouse or child, or even an income change (i.e., pay raise); your W-4 should be updated appropriately. This will ensure that your employer is not withholding more than necessary.

“The real winner of the tax game is the person who doesn’t owe taxes or gets minimal or no refund.” Dryden explains, “This means they kept their income throughout the year.”

Dryden recommends speaking with a tax accountant or tax professional for assistance in completing the W-4 correctly.

Use the extra income to pay off debt or build your emergency fund faster

“Use that extra income in your paycheck to pay off debt or to build your emergency savings fund.” says Dryden.

The importance of having an emergency fund was realized when over 800,000 federal workers and contractors did not receive paychecks for over 30 days due to the government shut down. The extra income is an excellent opportunity to build a savings fund for unexpected emergencies, job loss, etc.

The extra income can also be used to pay down debt to produce more future disposable income.

Use the extra income to invest

Some people try to rationalize a tax refund as a forced savings technique.

Instead of giving the government an interest-free loan, keep that extra income throughout the year to invest and earn more money.

“Increase your contribution to your Employer-Sponsored Retirement Account, like a 401K, 403B, 457, Thrift Savings, etc.,” recommends Dryden. “Or set up a direct deposit or automatic transfer to a brokerage account. Instead of buying stuff — buy stock.”

Dryden recommends speaking with your employer’s retirement investment administrator or a licensed investment adviser for assistance with stock investments.

Roger Mathews Claims J-Woww Is Lying About Abuse – Claims She Has Always Been The Violent One

According to a report from Us Weekly, Roger Mathews recently took to his personal website to release a long article about what he considers to be the truth of the matter regarding his bitter – and very public – fight with his estranged wife, Jenni “JWoww” Farley.

In a post encompassing 6,000 words, Roger accused the reality star of lying about physical violence in their relationship, placing the blame on her for what he describes as abuse. The reality star, Roger, said in his blog post that he wonders why nobody ever asked him about the supposed abuse he inflicted on her.

The Jersey Shore: Family Vacation star accused his estranged spouse of bragging about stabbing both of her ex-boyfriends, as well as being the “true aggressor” in their altercations. Roger accused JWoww of even punching him in the face one night.

Moreover, Mathews claimed that the 32-year-old reality star threw a candle as well as a vacuum cleaner at not only him but their two-year-old son, Greyson. However, Roger did admit to shoving her on several occasions but claims his actions were in retaliation against her aggression.

According to Roger, there were moments in their marriage that were truly a “nightmare.” The reality star supposedly has incriminating footage of JWoww but has chosen not to release it because he feels it’s “ethically wrong.”

Roger went on to say that he is not the monster she has portrayed him to be. The reality star’s post went on in the same vein for literally thousands of words, accusing Farley of being the abusive one in the relationship, and in general, offering his side to the story.

As it was reported previously, Farley and Roger’s situation has been quite nasty for the last few months, following Farley’s filing for divorce last year in September after just a three-year marriage. On the 30th of January, Jenni accused Roger of being abusive on her own website.

Furthermore, she released footage online in which it appeared as though Roger shoved her. Mathews accused JWoww of “playing the victim” in the situation.

Shane Filan: Westlife will probably always be a four-piece

OHMYGOSSIP — Westlife “probably” won’t ever reunite with Brian McFadden.
Shane Filan has insisted the Irish band – completed by Markus Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan – have seen the ‘Flying Without Wings’ hitmakers as a four-piece ever since they broke up in 2011, and don’t see Brian, who left in 2004, ever returning to the group.
Shane, who hasn’t spoken with the 38-year-old singer in a decade, told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “We will always see it as a four.
“It’s nothing against Brian. It’s just he left and we went on and became a four-piece. We’re still a four-piece and we will probably always be a four-piece. I haven’t spoken to Brian in 10 years.
“We did nine years without Brian. We made six albums without him. It would be different if we all ended six years ago and we were a five-piece and now we’re four.
“But we have been a four for three-quarters of the band’s time, including the time off.”
The band’s manager, Louis Walsh, previously admitted he only wanted the “Fab Four” to be involved in any reformation, not Brian, who left the band to pursue solo projects, and said “never say never” to rejoining his former bandmates in the future.
Louis said of their reunion: “Brian won’t be involved, it will be the Fab Four. Totally.
“The four of them just see them themselves as Westlife.”
The 66-year-old Irishman said he wanted it to be just the four of them because they’d be “happy”, and said it was more convenient considering three of them all live in the same town.
When asked if Brian begged to be included, the former ‘X Factor’ judge replied: “No, I prefer a happy band and four happy people.
“They all know each other, they all respect each other.
“Three of them live in the same town in Sligo, so it makes more sense.”
The band made a comeback last week with their Ed Sheeran-penend single, ‘Hello My Love’, and have a new album and upcoming 20th anniversary tour.
