THE unknown actress who won the coveted role of Princess Diana in The Crown quit modelling after being told she was too big for the catwalk.

Emma Corrin, 23, switched to acting after a snub at a London Fashion Week show in 2016.

She said: “Why did the rejection of the modelling industry get to me so much?

“I think the answer is that these rejections were based on how I looked and I had always prided myself on a healthy amount of self-confidence which I was now rapidly losing.

“The real nail in the coffin was when I finally got through to a fitting for a show and the designer handed me a pair of breeches and I couldn’t get them past my calf muscles, which are pronounced because I’m a runner.

“The designer looked surprised and embarrassed as he said, “Sorry, it’s just we’re not used to girls who exercise”, implying that the models he was expecting dieted themselves in order to fit into his clothes.

“I could have slapped him.”

Cambridge graduate Emma revealed the incident in a blog called Cambridge Girl Talk.

The actress from Sevenoaks, Kent, is one of three children and comes from a wealthy background.

Speech therapist mum Juliette and businessman dad Christopher, 65, live in a six-bedroom home worth £2.5million.

Emma will appear in the Netflix drama next year and last month celebrated landing her biggest role by getting a dog and naming him Spencer, after Diana’s maiden name.

The blue merle cockapoo has his own Instagram account, deliciouslyspencer.

She can be heard cooing over her pet in videos and in one she says: “Spencer you are gorgeous.”
