Courtesy Jaxon’s Cure

Jaxon Abalahin was a happy and seemingly healthy 5-year-old who had just returned home from what his mother would describe as “a great day at kindergarten” in February of 2005.

He then suddenly had difficulty speaking. His head began to dip forward in a kind of fast nod every few seconds.

US military deletes tacky New Year’s Eve tweet about being ‘ready to drop’ a bomb

US military bomb tweet

It’s so easy to party to excess at the end of the year — to get caught up in the year-end revelry and the excitement of turning a page on the calendar. Some people get so caught up in the fun they go out and get hammered. Others gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop while they try not to freeze to death. Meanwhile, the arm of the US military that oversees the nation’s nuclear weapons arsenal decided to get in on the fun in its own way — by sending out a humorous tweet about how big its bombs are. A tweet that, okay, wasn’t actually funny at all. It has since been deleted and the military has also taken the extra step of apologizing for it.

Welcome to 2019.

Mail Bomb Suspect Cesar Sayoc’s Rage Against Mom Drove Him to Trump, Lawyer Claims

Photo Illustration by Elizabeth Brockway/The Daily Beast

MIAMI—Madeline Giardiello woke up from surgery Friday morning to find out that her son, 56-year-old Cesar Sayoc, had just been arrested by the FBI for allegedly mailing homemade explosives to 13 high-profile Democrats.

When Giardiello saw Sayoc’s face on the news, her lawyer Ronald Lowy told The Daily Beast, it was her first real glimpse of her son in three and a half years. Back in 2015, after years of fighting over his inability to hold down a job or seek help for what they saw as mental illness, Giardiello had kicked Sayoc out of her house, where he occasionally stayed.

That’s when Sayoc “drew the line,” Lowy said during an interview on Saturday. “He said ‘I hate you. I don’t want anything more to do with you.’”
