Warning: Fashion Nova May Cause Cancer

Alarm over Fashion Nova erupted on Twitter earlier this week when a social media user shared a photo of a bathing suit she ordered from the online fashion retail giant that included a warning label stating that the material in the swimwear includes harmful chemicals.

“Did y’all know this tag is in Fashion Nova swimsuits?” wrote @Aziaani in a post with a photo of her bikini in a tweet that went viral. “They’re not getting any more of my coins,” continued the concerned customer in a rant about the $ 34.99 bathing suit, reports The Grio.

The chemical warning label in the “Water Sports Bikini” states that “This product can expose you to Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, lead and cadmium, which are known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm.” Per the National Library of Medicine, these chemicals are “linked to deteriorating male reproductive health.” Nevertheless, the user was tagged in beach photos posted online the same day where she appeared to be wearing the controversial bikini after her alarming tweet caused panic.

“Hold on you telling me fashion nova causes cancer?” wrote a user in response. “Wild.”

“Beauty is pain and sometimes death,” wrote another user.

Others, however, pointed out that the same warning label is posted on a number of products sold in California, where Fashion Nova is headquartered, due to the state’s Proposition 65, which mandates companies to disclose if their products contain any potentially toxic chemicals. Last year, the 1986 law was amended to also require businesses to list the specific chemicals used that prompt the warning.

“This is a label on EVERYTHING in CALIFORNIA. Everything,” one person tweeted. Others noted that it appears on a wide range of products, including Christmas lights, furniture, coffee, and even airplanes in the Golden State.

Fashion Nova is heavily endorsed by celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Cardi B, whose new signature Fashion Nova collection drops on May 8. The rapper’s first Fashion Nova collection sold out within minutes, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Who was Tania Mallet?

Tania, 77, was born in Blackpool to father Henry Mallet and Russian mother Olga Mironoff.

The star, a cousin of Dame Helen Mirren, started her career as a teen model going on to become one of the most famous faces of the 1950s and 1960s.

When was Tania in James Bond?

Legend has it a photo of Tania in bikini was sent to Bond producer Cubby Broccoli, who brought her in to screen test for the role of Tatiana Romanova in 1957 film From Russia With Love.

She is said to have missed out on that part due to her English accent but landed a starring role in the third Bond film Goldfinger opposite Sean Connery in 1964.

She played a vengeful sister out to kill Auric Goldfinger after he murdered her sibling by painting her from head to toe in gold paint.

Tilly was killed off during the film when the baddie’s sidekick Oddjob, hurled his steel-rimmed hat at her.

Despite the huge success of Goldfinger, Tania never made another film once admitting she hated her lack of freedom while under contract.

What was Tania’s cause of death?

The sad news that Tania had passed away was revealed on March 31, 2019.

Her cause of death has not yet been announced.

A statement posted on Facebook page Bond Stars read: “Unfortunately we must share the very sad news that our dear friend Tania Mallet has sadly passed away.

“She was a very classy and beautiful lady inside and out.”

Common cause in sudden death syndromes

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) are syndromes that share many medical similarities but whose physiological causes are poorly understood. An opinion article publishing March 21 in the journal Trends in Neurosciences suggests that the inability for an individual to wake up when their CO2 blood levels rise, likely due to a faulty neural reflex, may be a shared cause for incidences of death in both disorders.

6 things that can cause irregular periods, explained by a doctor

First things first: Don’t panic

irregular periods

Irregular periods messing with your head? Your mind may be running away with itself and imagining all sorts of possible causes, but usually there’s a simple explanation as to why your cycle isn’t playing ball.

There are a number of reasons why your periods could be irregular (or completely absent), including lifestyle factors, medical conditions and just plain biology.

So to clear some of the fog, Dr Victoria Manning, women’s health expert at River Aesthetics, explains six of the most common causes below. If you’re concerned about irregular periods, always speak to your GP to discuss further.

What causes irregular periods?

Stress

If you’ve been under significant stress lately, whether work or home-related, it may explain why your period is acting up. ‘Stress activates a hormonal pathway in the body called the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, via the release of increased levels of cortisol,’ explains Dr Manning. ‘The HPA axis and cortisol help control the stress response in the body.

‘Cortisol release can suppress normal levels of reproductive hormones, potentially leading to abnormal ovulation, anovulation (no ovulation) or amenorrhoea (absence of menstration).’

The contraceptive pill

‘Within your natural menstrual cycle your hormone levels fluctuate throughout the month – the main hormones involved are oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone,’ Dr Manning says. ‘The presence in varying levels of these three hormones trigger different parts of your cycle, such as thickening the lining of the womb, maturing your eggs and releasing them into your fallopian tubes.’

Essentially, the pill alters your hormone levels, which can in turn throw your menstrual cycle out of whack. According to the NHS, the progestogen-only or ‘mini’ pill can cause periods to stop, become lighter, irregular or even more frequent.

‘Oral contraception alters these hormone levels by introducing synthetic hormones. Some have a mix of oestrogen and progestin (a synthetic progesterone), others just progestins. Since these hormones are the key orchestrators of your menstrual cycle, it makes sense that your menstruation and ovulation would be different as a result of taking hormonal birth control,’ Dr Manning adds.

‘When you’re on the pill, you don’t have fluctuations in hormone levels because you’re actively taking synthetic versions that are keeping your levels high. So in essence, the pill inhibits ovulation because the levels of oestrogen and progesterone you’re taking don’t allow the hormone dip that triggers your natural monthly egg maturation and drop.’ If you’re thinking of coming off the pill, speak to your GP.

irregular periods causes

PCOS

‘Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, is a common condition that affects the way a woman’s ovaries work,’ explains Dr Manning. ‘The main three features of PCOS are irregular periods, which means your ovaries do not release eggs; excess androgen, high levels of “male hormones” in your body, which may result in physical signs like excess facial or body hair and central weight gain; and polycystic ovaries, where your ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs.

‘If you have at least two of these features, you may be diagnosed with PCOS.’ For more information, read our guide to PCOS when you’re done here.

Weight gain

‘When overweight, cholesterol compounds in fat cells can get converted into a type of weak oestrogen called estrone,’ explains the doctor. ‘Overweight or obese women carrying extra fat cells have “little estrone-making factories”, which can have an oestrogenic effect on glands.

‘This added oestrogen can cause bleeding or irregular periods. A woman may go months without ovulating, for example, but the uterine lining is still building up to the point that it becomes unstable. This can cause prolonged or very heavy bleeding.’

Weight loss

‘On the other end of the spectrum underweight women and women with eating disorders, like anorexia nervosa, which result in extreme weight loss may also be unintentionally impacting their menstrual cycles. Women without much fat on their bodies may have fewer periods or go longer without ovulating.

‘Starvation, as well as extreme exercise and stress, can trigger an effect that suppresses the brain. These women may be so underweight that their bodies simply stop making oestrogen. Additionally, the lack of fat doesn’t allow cells to convert cholestrol into extra oestrogen.’

Perimenopause

‘During the years leading up to the menopause, known as perimenopause, shifts in hormone levels can fluctuate quite significantly causing changes in the menstrual cycle,’ explains Dr Manning. ‘During a normal menstrual cycle, the levels of oestrogen and progesterone increase and decrease in a regular pattern. Ovulation occurs in the middle of the cycle and menstruation about two weeks later.

‘However, during perimenopause, hormone levels may not follow this regular pattern and as a result you may have irregular bleeding or spotting. Some months your period may be longer and heavier and others shorter and lighter, the number of days between periods may increase or decrease and you may begin to skip periods.’

Note that the purpose of this feature is to inform, not replace one-to-one medical consultations. For advice tailored specifically to you, always discuss your health with a doctor

These Are Some of the Insane Moments of Mayhem Possible in ‘Just Cause 4’

Just Cause 4 has a darker tone than its predecessors, but it’s absolutely still an enabler for any shenanigans you’ve got in mind — a far cry from the other dour, self-serious open-world games that have come out of late.

Storywise, protagonist Rico Rodriguez is on a personal mission to see the truth behind his father’s death — a more personal note for the series. Still, the key to this year’s game is on the shed-load of new destructive tools on offer — and a weather forecast predicting gaming’s best tornado and a 100 percent chance of hilarity…

Remove the "wind guns" the enemy uses to hold back a tornado and watch the fun unfold
Remove the “wind guns” the enemy uses to hold back a tornado and watch the fun unfold

Grapple Improvements

One of the key measurements in a Just Cause game is how much trouble you can make in the shortest amount of time possible. Avalanche is giving players outlets for mischief thanks to a bunch of new enhancements to Rico’s signature suite of bat-gadgets. As always, you can get about by alternating between grapple hook, parachute, and wingsuit — three mechanics that work remarkably well in tandem with one another. The biggest change, however, is how your grapple launcher has been taken to insane new levels of customization. You’re basically your own Q Branch now.

At any time you can pause the game, bring up a menu, and apply a ridiculously large amount of behaviours to the grapple pods shot from your wrist. You might want to deploy a balloon that lifts up a tank but stops at a certain altitude before exploding. Hell, you could strap a tank with non-lethal balloons, slap some rocket boosters on its butt, and hover that thing into an enemy outpost like the world’s weirdest gunship.

Alternatively, if you’re a sadist you might opt to create a gadget that rapidly reels two objects toward one another before detonating on impact (such as, say, two hapless civilian NPCs). There are millions of gadget combinations to try, too — you can effectively make any in-game object lift, pull, or push as hard as you want. You’re limited only by your creativity and nefariousness.

"What's your vector, Victor?" "I'm pretty much over, Roger"
“What’s your vector, Victor?” “I’m pretty much over, Roger”

The Weather Literally Shakes Things Up

JC4 offers one other source of emergent fun for you, too. For the first time in the series, this physics-heavy open-world is being plagued by extreme weather, like blizzards, sandstorms, tornados, and electrical storms. Fitting in with a narrative that is more or less “bad guys are controlling the weather,” this extreme weather is a wild card that respects nobody and can be spotted from miles and miles away. It shreds about on its own AI routines and, rather amusingly, the NPCs in the world show it nowhere near the respect it deserves.

During our playtime, we spent a good hour alternating between watching pedestrians drive right into a tornado, only to be whipped around and then pinged a postcode away. We also deliberately tried to punch through the beast in an attempt to find an eye of the storm we’re not even sure exists. Honestly, we’ve played every single Just Cause entry in the series and this self-imposed challenge proved to be the most fun we’ve had in years. We want the whole game — every racing challenge, every stunt event, and every firefight — to be set in and around this thing.

We commandeered an enemy gunship in our first experiment and tried dropping directly down through the clouds. End result: The rotor blades shredded like tinfoil and the bird exploded, sending our ragdolling (and flaming) body around and around the vortex. It took a minute to let go of us. Upside: a new “skydiving record” was set. Bonus!

Unperturbed, we next attempted to brute force through using a stealth microfighter that was going 360 km/h with its afterburners cranked. End result: the tornado turned us aside and more or less used our own momentum to judo flip our 30 million dollar ride into a nearby mountain.

Fandom does not endorse the flying of jet fighters into tornadoes. Do so at your own peril.
“WITNESS MEEEEE!” *Kaboom*

There were so many attempts, dear reader. A civilian bus full of people driven flat chat into it? That got sent cartwheeling into a forest, then death by explosion. 747-sized airliner doing 400kmh/hr, flown upside down for extra style points? Wings caught on fire, then the fuselage got sucked up into the chute and spat out onto some buildings. Damn it.

Beaten but not unamused, we rounded off our playtime by pranking The Agency plane that delivers Rico all his air-dropped vehicles and gadgets. We ventured as close to the vortex as possible and then ordered a shipping container full of stuff, taking care to make delivery vector intersect with mother nature’s angriest storm.

Sure enough an A380-sized dropship barreled in overhead and was shredded into gobs of fire and a hail of twisted Mechano parts. We stood below it all, awestruck by the carnage.

Just Cause 4 launches December 4 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
