Warner Bros’ File Copyright Claim Against Trump Tweet, Has ‘Dark Night’ Music Removed

Late on Tuesday night, Warner Bros.’ Pictures were forced to file a copyright infringement complaint against President Donald Trump and The White House due to their most recent controversial tweet. The two-minute 2020 re-election campaign video, which has since been taken down by Twitter after the complaint was filed, used music from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises without the film studios consent.

The very strange video, which used the composer Hans Zimmer’s “Why Do We Fall” from the 2012 film, also used the same font from the movie, but portrayed a very different message. The text, which appears to be have been altered from another quote, said: “First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they call you a racist. Donald J. Trump. Your vote. Proved them all wrong. Trump: The Great Victory. 2020.”

The trailer-like video showed footage of Donald Trump from various rallies and events around the country, along with people who Trump would consider villains in his own superhero story, such as former President Barack Obama, his previous Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton, and comedians Rosie O’Donnell and Amy Schumer.

The video also highlighted Trump’s meetings with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and Brazil’s recently elected President Jair Bolsonaro.

After BuzzFeed News first reported that the music was used without approval, Warner Bros. took action and quickly filled a copyright claim. Last night a spokesperson from Warner Bros. said in a statement: “The use of Warner Bros.’ score from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in the campaign video was unauthorized. We are working through the appropriate legal channels to have it removed.”

The quick action by Warner. Bros led to Twitter removing the video after only a couple of hours, as it was deemed to have breached the social networks own copyright policies. However, this didn’t stop the video being viewed almost 1.8 million times.

This isn’t the first time that Trump has gotten into trouble for using cultural material without approval. Last year, Trump tweeted a meme based on the Game of Thrones tagline “Winter is Coming”, which said “Sanctions are Coming”, much to HBO’s displeasure.

Previously, Twitter also took steps to remove another one of Donald Trump’s tweets due to copyright infringement. Earlier this year his official Twitter account used the band R.E.M.’s most famous tracks “Everybody Hurts” in a promotional, which was taken down after the band complained to Twitter.

As the 2020 presidential race already begins to hot up, we’re sure this won’t be the last of Trump’s tweets that causes some level of controversy.

Black Men Skin Care Brand Challenges The “For All Skin Types” Beauty Claim

Faced with a constant challenge of finding solutions created specifically for men of color, Patrick Boateng II and Blake Rascoe created Ceylon, a skin care brand developed to help men of color adopt an effective skincare routine.

With help from their advisor Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant, Boateng and Rascoe created Ceylon as an exclusive product for men of color because research shows they are disproportionately affected by skin concerns such as acne scarring, eczema, razor bumps, and hyper-pigmentation.

“The biggest change that we’d like to see in the industry is an end to the lie that the product is for all skin types,” said Boateng. “There are specific skin concerns that disproportionately affect people of color and it is disingenuous for companies to imply that a skincare product that hasn’t been developed with skin of color in mind can, in fact, be a safe and effective product for people like us. For us, it’s important to have safe, effective, and well-researched products that help deal with these issues without the risks that many common products on the market carry.”

Built From the Ground-Up With People of Color in Mind.

Typically, targeting people of color is an afterthought for mainstream beauty brands. So when it comes to marketing and product development the founders leveraged their personal experiences and concentrated their efforts on education and accessibility.

“Together, we thought about how to create products that we would have liked to have when we wanted to take care of our skin. We knew that if we created the answer for us, it could be the answer for many others,” said Boateng. For Boateng it was when living abroad that he experienced daily breakouts and routine acne scarring. Despite trying hundreds of products, nothing seemed to help clear up his skin. For Blake it started in high school, when as a three-sport athlete, a rigorous schedule and constant sweating made it difficult to keep his skin clear. At the time, Blake began using an over-the-counter skin care product recommended by his dermatologist to help combat acne which also ended up bleaching his skin, leaving him with a pale, washed-out complexion.

Black Men Skin Care Brand

Beyond selling skincare products directly to consumers online, the trailblazing duo is also creating a community platform for men of color that fosters improved health and wellness outcomes.

“The most overlooked factors that can negatively affect our skin health include poor nutrition, lack of sleep, daily stress, exposure to air and water pollution, and inadequate personal care practices,” said Boateng. These are the same issues that can actually affect our overall health. So it’s important to note that our dermatological health and overall health are linked. Our ultimate goal is to start a conversation around overall health and wellness. We believe that starts with looking in the mirror.”

Duke University Investigating Assault Claim Against Former Basketball Player Made by Fairfax Accuser

Duke University is investigating a sexual assault allegation made Friday against a former men’s basketball player.

The claims were made in a statement by the attorneys of Meredith Watson, who has also said Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax sexually assaulted her on the university’s Durham, North Carolina, campus when they were both students there in 2000. Fairfax has refused to resign as he faces two allegations of assault.

“Ms. Watson was raped by a basketball player during her sophomore year at Duke,” the statement said. “She went to the Dean, who provided no help and discouraged her from pursuing the claim further. Ms. Watson also told friends, including Justin Fairfax.”

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told ESPN both he and the university understand the severity of the matter.

“I think there was an allegation made, right?” the coach told the network after Saturday night’s game against Virginia. “I’m not sure that’s true or not, but there’s an allegation. I didn’t find out about it until late last night, and I have no knowledge about it.”

The school released a statement on Saturday night.

“Duke first learned of the allegations involving a student-athlete last night when they were reported by the media,” the statement said. “Coach Krzyzewski confirms that he had no knowledge of the alleged conduct from 1999. The university is looking into the matter and will have no further comment at this time.”

The player’s identity hasn’t been released.

Fox News Corrects Guest’s False Claim That Top 1% Earners ‘Pay 99% of the Taxes’

Fox News

Shortly after an on-air guest made the false claim that the top one percent of earners pay 99 percent of the taxes in the U.S., Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy issued a correction and informed the show’s viewers that the richest Americans don’t pay nearly that much.

While railing against socialism and the Democratic Party on Thursday morning, former Republican congressional candidate Maria Elvira Salazar sounded the alarm on “handouts,” claiming that redistribution turns poorer citizens into “parasites of society.”

Taking aim at Medicare for All, Salazar said she’s not opposed to universal access to health care but argued that the U.S. cannot provide for it without taking away the incentives for rich people to “produce wealth.”

How to File a Roofing Insurance Claim

Your roof is often the first line of defense your home has against the elements, but severe weather, like hurricanes, tornados, and hail, can damage the roof to your home— causing leaks, water, and structural damage. To quickly, safely, and affordably repair roofing damage, you may need to file a homeowners insurance claim. It is important to find a reliable, trusted contractor for your roof replacement. This article will assist you as you navigate insurance claims, contractors, and the repair process.

Before You Contact Your Homeowners Insurance

Before contacting your insurance agent, take time to document the damage to your roof. Take multiple pictures of the interior and exterior of your home, as well as detailed notes. If the damage was caused by a storm, document the date and time.

If damage occurred from hail, it’s smart to document the size of the hail with a tape measurer. After documenting the damage, safe-proof your home to prevent further damage before contacting your insurance.

Types of Homeowner Insurance Coverage

There are usually four main coverage types to your homeowners insurance:

  • Dwelling Insurance
    • This protects the structure of your home, including your windows, garage, and built-in appliances like your water heater or HVAC. This coverage may help pay for the rebuilding or the repair of the physical structure of your home if it’s damaged by natural disaster, theft, or vandalism.
  • Personal Property Insurance
    • This covers your personal belongings, like furniture, clothing, electronics, jewelry, and kitchen appliances. This type of coverage, designed to help protect your belongings, may help provide protection in the event of a covered loss, such as theft or fire.
  • Liability Insurance
    • This coverage assists if someone has been hurt or injured on your property, like a dog bite or falling off a ladder.
  • Additional Living Expenses (ALE) Insurance
    • If your home is uninhabitable after an event, this helps cover temporary housing cost.

You can learn how these coverages protect you and your home on your homeowner insurance policy declaration page. Your declaration page will outline both your personal information and the coverage details.

What is Usually Covered by Homeowners Insurance…And What’s Not

According to the reliable roofing contractors, standard homeowners policies cover a wide range of potential disasters including tornadoes, lightning strikes, fire, wind, hail, and falling objects. But it’s important to note that not all natural disasters are covered in your policy.

Like many insurance providers, Allstate notes that damage caused by floods and earthquakes are not typically part of your homeowners insurance policy. However, they are often available through additional policies. Check with your insurance provider to learn if they offer these protections.

Normal wear and tear on your home and damage due to lack of maintenance, mold, or infestation from termites or other pests are also not usually covered.

Filing a Homeowners Insurance Claim for Home Damage

Storm damage to your home will fall under your dwelling insurance. Damage may impact your roof, walls, windows, floors, foundation, or built-in appliances like your HVAC unit. Once you have documented the damage, and taken action to prevent further damage, you can begin the claims process. It is important to file a claim as soon as possible after an event.

Most companies make it easy for homeowners to navigate this process on their website or mobile app, but you can also call the number listed on your policy. To submit a claim, you will need your policy number and an explanation/summary of damages. Your insurance agent will discuss your current policy, what’s covered and your next steps.

Understanding Your Deductible

It is important to understand your homeowners insurance deductible throughout this process. This deductible is the amount you will have to pay before receiving a reimbursement from your insurance provider.

For example, if your deductible is $ 1,000, but the cost to repair your roof is $ 800, your deductible would not be met. You would not receive any money back from your insurance company. In this case, you may choose to repair the roof on your own.

If it costs $ 3,000 to repair your damaged roof, and your deductible is $ 1,000, you would file a claim and pay your deductible. Your insurance provider would cover the additional $ 2,000 cost. A typical roof repair runs between $ 150 and $ 3,000 depending on the size of damage and materials. Roof replacements range from $ 8,000 to $ 17,500.

Meeting With Local Roofing Contractors

After filing a claim, you will be asked to schedule an appointment with an insurance adjuster. Before meeting with the adjuster, we recommend receiving three to four project estimates from local, trusted contractors. These contractors should provide free estimates, but not begin any repairs yet. Keep all of the estimates and any additional relevant paperwork organized. You will share these details with your insurance adjuster at your meeting.

Make sure you don’t sign a contract or agreement or make any type of payment until your insurance provider has approved the estimate. It is important not begin repairs until after the adjuster has inspected your home, as that may lead to not receiving compensation.

If possible, ask your roofing contractor to be present at your appointment with the insurance adjuster. This will protect you from any overlooked damages and will also ensure that you get a fair assessment.

Beware of Scams

While most contractors are reliable, there are scammers who seek out neighborhoods with a high percentage of senior citizens; areas with older housing stock; and places that are prone to, or were recently hit by major storms.

The reliable roofing contractors reports that in the aftermath of a natural disaster salespeople often go door-to-door in damaged neighborhoods offering cleanup and/or repair services. While many of these individuals are honest and reputable, others are not. The dishonest individuals may pocket your payment or insurance settlement without completing the job. Or, they may use inferior materials and perform shoddy work not up to code. The crime bureau also warns of contractors who offer to manipulate the price to cover your deductible or extra work not caused by the catastrophe. This is insurance fraud, a felony which may render insurance coverage void.

Meet With Your Insurance Adjuster

After receiving your contractor estimates, make an appointment with your insurance adjuster. They will help determine the cause of damage and assess the total cost. When the adjuster meets you at your home, they will ask you about the event. This is where your detailed notes will be important. The adjuster will create a report that contains a description of the roof damage, as well as photos. It is also important to share the estimates you received from contractors at this meeting. All of these details will be submitted to the insurance company to move your claim along.

Hire Your Preferred Contractor to Repair Roof Damage

Once your claim has been approved, and you have reached a settlement for the cost of repairs, begin working with your preferred, licensed contractor to repair your roof. Your insurance provider will typically send an advance for half of the payment to allow you to begin repairs. The last half will be sent upon completion, minus your deductible.

Already know you have home storm damage? We can help. Receive up to four quotes from reliable roofing contractors in your area.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Claim That She (and Goop) Popularized Yoga Is, Well, a Stretch

Since launching Goop in 2008, actress Gwyneth Paltrow has been a divisive presence in the burgeoning wellness industry. Her comments in a Wall Street Journal Magazine profile, in which she claimed claimed credit for making yoga popular, may end up making that ambivalence even stronger.

Paltrow was a subject of a puff piece in the magazine showing how she “is living her best life–and believes she can help you live yours better, too.” To Goop’s many adherents, that may ring true. But Paltrow’s critics zeroed in on comments she made that appeared to take credit for popularizing yoga.

“Forgive me if this comes out wrong, but I went to do a yoga class in LA recently and the 22-year-old girl behind the counter was like, ‘Have you ever done yoga before?’ ” Paltrow said in the interview. “And literally I turned to my friend, and I was like, ‘(She has) this job because I’ve done yoga before.’ ”

While Paltrow’s use of “literally” may leave grammar nerds feeling as if their heads are about to explode, health professionals will surely be puzzled by another quote that seems to regard the age-old wisdom that food affects health as somehow radical in concept.

“That was the beginning of people thinking I was a crackpot,” Paltrow said about Goop’s founding in September 2008. “Like, ‘What do you mean food can affect your health, you (expletive) psycho? I remember when I started doing yoga and people were like, ‘What is yoga? She’s a witch. She’s a freak.'”

To be fair, the story notes that Paltrow’s conversion to a healthier lifestyle began after her father faced surgery for throat cancer in 1998. And the comments read like flippant, off-hand remarks made in conversation, rather than for an interview for print. Nonetheless, they don’t exactly mesh with reality.

For example, yoga has been popular in the U.S. for decades. According to Yoga Journal, Swami Vivekananda introduced yoga to the U.S. in the late 1800s. It slowly but steadily gained in popularity over the following decades. By the 1960s, there were books about yoga that sold millions of volumes, dozens of yoga studios, and even a TV show featuring yoga workouts.

A Harris survey that Yoga Journal commissioned in 2003 found that between 15 million and 18 million people, or between 7% and 9% of the population, were practicing yoga. What’s more, the survey found:

more than 12% of the U.S. population, or 25.5 million people, is very or extremely interested in the practice of yoga; one in six respondents, or 35.3 million people, express the intention to try yoga within the next 12 months; and more than half of the general population, or 109.7 million people, has at least a casual interest in the practice of yoga.

What’s more, a Google search of Goop’s early web site–described by the Daily Beast as “a spare gray and white design and a vague promise of future inspiration”–shows only a handful of references to yoga before 2010, and most of those mentioning the practice only in passing.

Paltrow’s comments were also greeted on Twitter with more that a raised eyebrow.

By some measures, Paltrow’s Goop is a success: It’s 2017 revenue was reportedly between $ 45 million and $ 60 million, up from a range of $ 15 million to $ 20 million a year earlier. But that growth has come with some controversies, such as the $ 145,000 settlement Goop paid this year for making unsupported medical claims about “jade eggs for your yoni.”

If Paltrow wants to keep Goop’s brand healthy, unsupported claims about making yoga popular won’t help.
