Anti Social Social Club Taps Period Correct, Rotiform and 24karats for Racing-Inspired Hoodie

The ever-provocative Anti Social Social Club keeps its streak of automotive-centric items going, joining with three other entities for a special hoodie. Alongside Period Correct, Rotiform and 24karats, ASSC is launched a colorful, racing-indebted hoodie.

Stylized branding from all four parties is printed across the black hoodie in various eye-catching colors. The classic ASSC logo appears on the front at the chest, alongside “PERIOD CORRECT TEAM RACING” verbiage. Each sleeve boasts either 24karats’ logo or a red “88,” a symbol of good luck in Chinese culture. The rear of the hoodie sports the most overt branding, with a host of collaged logos arranged above the rainbow-hued “RACING” text.

Look for the hoodie to launch today on Anti Social Social Club’s website.

Most recently, ASSC joined with mastermind JAPAN for a special layering piece.

‘I started working out at KOBOX – the boxing club favoured by Jourdan Dunn, Cheryl and Ellie Goulding’

‘My body was exhausted from doing rounds of 360° squats, jumping lunges, push ups and planks with shoulder taps’

KOBOX

I discovered boxing at my local gym and I occasionally would go to a class. I really enjoyed the sessions, but they weren’t part of my workout routine (not that I really had one). So when I came across KOBOX, a boxing club that looks more like a nightclub than a sports club, I knew that I had to try it.

KOBOX offers 50-minute workouts that include rounds of boxing combinations on a bag (a plus for me because my boxing partner once hit me in the face), as well as rounds of strength training using free weights, resistance bands, slam balls, landmines, gymnastic rings and other equipment.

After a quick search on their website, I learn that they’re offering a limited 12-round challenge; 12 classes in four weeks. So that’s how I find myself at their Baker Street studio, signed up and ready to start a month of doing the most exercise I have done in years.

Week 1

To ease myself into it, I decided to start my first session on a Saturday. I’m not going to lie – it was hard. There were squats, burpees, high planks, low planks and mountain climbers involved, as well as weights, slam balls and, of course, boxing. The upbeat tunes kept me going, but I had to pause a couple of times to take a deep breath and gather my strength.

My second class, focussing on upper body and core, followed on Tuesday morning. Using 10kg weight plates, dumbbells and suspension bands. This session was particularly hard on the arms, but I was having fun, and that made it a lot more bearable.

I scheduled my last class of the week, a full body/bodyweight one, on Thursday morning. We didn’t use any weights during the circuits but we did enough push-ups, burpees, crunches and lunges to make up for that. I am also really starting to enjoy the workouts, so that’s promising for the weeks to come.

Week 2

Kicking off my second week on Monday morning, I have to admit that I had some trouble waking up at 6am. We used TRX suspension straps for all our wall exercises (think jumping squats, single leg squats and pull ups all while holding onto the handles) and during the boxing rounds; we focussed on our hooks – or number 3 and 4, as KOBOX calls them.

In contrary to the Monday class, we didn’t use any equipment on Thursday. However, after 50 minutes my body was tired from doing rounds of 360° squats, jumping lunges, push ups (I have to note that I still can’t do more than 2 of these successfully) and planks with shoulder taps.

I initially regretted booking my last class of the week on Saturday morning. I even checked if I could cancel the class, but I would have lost my credit so I went ahead anyway. Afterwards, I was actually quite happy that I went because a former professional boxer taught the class, so there was a lot to learn from his technique. The rounds of strength training were tough – I was definitely sweating more than usual – but I felt great afterwards.

Week 3

I’m starting to believe that starting off the week with a KOBOX class is the right thing to do. That’s why at 7am on Monday morning; I’m at the Baker Street studio again for another full body/bodyweight class.

My Wednesday session, focussing on lower body, was probably the hardest class so far. It’s the part of my body that needs the most training and after the first couple of rounds of leg exercises, I couldn’t feel my knees anymore. Other than that, a good week.

Week 4

I skipped a class last week (I moved house over the weekend which, if you have ever tried to move an entire wardrobe, you will know is basically a workout), so I needed to fit 4 sessions into my schedule this week.

The first class – apologies if I’m starting to sound repetitive – is a full body one on Monday morning. I want to give a quick shout out to Jay. His classes include a ‘beastmode’ round and believe me when I say; these will wipe you out. However, thanks to his enthusiasm and volume, as well as a great song selection, I’m always motivated to push through.

I opted for another lower body session on Wednesday. After doing four rounds of lunges, squats, pulses and wall sits with 10kg weight plates, as well as high knees and burpees with a resistance band around my waist, my glutes and hamstrings were burning – in a good way.

I managed to squeeze in another session on Saturday morning, using 10kg weight plates and medicine balls. After 4 weeks, I still struggle to complete the reps that require using a slam ball, so I had to endure these 50 minutes of squats, lunges, bridges and high planks.

Technically I cheated, scheduling my final class of the challenge on Monday, but I just didn’t think I could go to KOBOX two days in a row. It was another intense session, combining burpees, jumping squats, bear crawls and planks with shoulder taps with 4 rounds of boxing and the dreaded ‘beastmode’ round.

I have to mention that I didn’t change my diet during this challenge. Yes, I love the occasional can of Coke Zero and I should probably eat some more vegetables, but I don’t consider my eating habits to be unhealthy. The one thing I wanted from this challenge was to finally get back into a workout routine.

After 12 rounds of KOBOX, I didn’t lose any weight. However, my body looks more toned and I feel better both mentally and physically.

One of the most surprising effects it has had is on my sleeping pattern. I go to bed earlier now (I have to wake up at 6am for the 7.15am session, so I go to bed before 11pm), sleep better and no longer have trouble getting out of bed in the morning.

But I would recommend KOBOX for the studio changing rooms alone. I’m talking rain showers, plush towels, REN toiletries, ghd hair dryers and straighteners and the oversized mirror of course – basically everything you need to get ready in the morning.

If you’re thinking about booking in a session, KOBOX offers a pack for first timers; £25 for two classes at any studio and a pair of boxing wraps.

Sara Tariq Recaps ‘Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club’: When It’s Just a Mykonos Thing

Lindsay-Lohan’s-Beach-Club-Recap
Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club MTV

Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club VIP host Sara Tariq will be recapping exclusively with Us Weekly each week about her opinion on the latest episode. Check back every week for her recap!

Alexa, play “Act Up” by City Girls. This song is a whole mood. You’re welcome.

It’s me, Sara Tariq, back to explain more of my boy drama while I was out in Mykonos. If you’re still trying to figure out why the show revolves so much around it — well, we are in the same boat my friends, because I am too.

The episode starts off with Lindsay Lohan explaining that she just wants us to be happy together and get along … so she puts us on yacht. Sailing through the Mediterranean on a nice-ass boat with unlimited alcohol after all of the emotional turmoil I’ve been dealing with all summer? Sign me up. We were all super excited for this day. All I know is that I wasn’t going to let anything f–k up my vibe because my summer has been everything but smooth sailing thus far. From being called an idiot on television to being blatantly ignored by someone you care about and developed genuine feelings for, in front of his “family”/friends was more than I saw myself getting into prior to signing up for this experience but hey, this is how you party in Mykonos, bitch.

I feel like I finally got to showcase my personality a bit more this episode. I was overshadowed by my Brent drama and relationship the entire season. This is when I started to finally let loose and not have the pressure of walking on eggshells about everything because I was in such a vulnerable place before. But alas, Lindsay thinks I was causing drama when that wasn’t my intention at all. I was just over everything and wanted to have some fun. Cue “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Why did I kiss Billy? Because he’s cute, duh. Now, do I want to wife him up? Meh, probably not. I mean I kissed Alex too, who’s clearly gay as f–k, but I don’t really care about anything at this point (we all go through that phase after a breakup, right?). So what? I just got out of a relationship and we’re catering to girls/gay clientele every week, not that I prefer pimping myself out to clients, ahem, cc: Brent. But I’m obviously just going with the flow and having fun with it.

Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club
Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club MTV

I actually do have a soul, though, and I did feel bad for Brent, yet I decided to be a little selfish this day. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you need to think about yourself before others because self-love is important. Frankly, I feel like you can never have enough and I need more of that for myself — still, to this day.

Shout-out to having real friends, though. Like everyone in the house who had my back and felt for me while second-hand dealing with my bulls–t/questionable decisions. You guys are the true MVPs. Seeing Jonitta stand up for me the way she did in this episode really tugged at my heart. Being there for your homegirl and standing up for women as a whole never gets old and she was truly a class act after everything she had been through while we were out there as well. So thank you for that, J. She’s a real one.

Even though Lindsay hears things through the grapevine and assumes I’m causing drama. I see it all now and I wish I could have explained myself to her more but you guys will just have to have your popcorn ready and tune in to find out how it all unfolds. Maybe I shouldn’t have taken one out of Brent’s handbook of stirring the pot? I thought we were being rewarded for it so I’m just as confused as you. It’s always risky pulling a you on you. So until then, always have respect for yourself, stand up for yourself and stay classy, my friends!

Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club airs on MTV Mondays at 10 p.m. ET.

10 Dead in Fire at Brazilian Soccer Club

(RIO DE JANEIRO) — A fire tore through the sleeping quarters of a development league for one of Brazil’s most popular professional soccer clubs on Friday, killing 10 people who were most likely players and injuring three others, authorities said.

Firefighters were called in just after 5 a.m. local time to battle a blaze at the sprawling Ninho de Urubu training ground of the Flamengo soccer club in Rio de Janeiro’s western region, a fire official told The Associated Press.

Beatriz Busch, the public health secretary for the state of Rio de Janeiro, said two of the injured were in stable condition and one was in critical condition.

“Those who died were athletes,” she said, adding that their identities had not been released and the cause of the fire was unknown.

“Flamengo is in mourning” the team posted on its Twitter account.

Messages to Flamengo officials were not immediately answered.

The three injured were 14, 15 and 16 years old, said the fire official, who asked his name not be used due to his agency’s rules.

Overhead images captured by an AP drone showed a charred area with smoke emerging.

Outside the complex, an AP reporter saw two ambulances and a fire truck enter. The facility was closed, and no officials had come out to address media.

Family members, friends and neighbors were gathering outside in hopes of getting information. Several gathered in a circle to pray.

Jefferson Rodrigues, who runs a small inn near the club, said he had reached a 15-year-old player he had befriended.

“I am very happy. I just spoke to Caix Suarez and he is alive,” said Rodrigues, adding that the youth told him he ran when he saw the flames in the morning. “He lost his phone, and all of his things, but the important thing is he is alive.”

Joao Pedro da Cruz, a 16-year-old player in the Flamengo youth league, told G1 news portal that he decided not to stay the night at the facility Thursday because the team wasn’t going to train on Friday. Instead, he went to a friend’s house.

“The majority of them (the team) stayed, my friends stayed (at the facility),” he said. “Today I woke up and heard this terrible news.”

Like many professional clubs in soccer-crazed Brazil, Flamengo has a youth development program for promising young players in their early teens. Many players, particularly those who live outside of Rio de Janeiro, stay at the facilities while training.

The dream of many youths in Latin America’s largest nation, winner of five World Cup titles, is to make it into the ranks of professional soccer. The development leagues identify promising players at a young age, working with them as they grow through their teenage years.

The best of those eventually play for Flamengo and several other teams across Brazil.

Flamengo is arguably Brazil’s most famous club, with an estimated 40 million fans nationwide. Supporters are so attached to their academy team that players have a motto for them: “Flamengo makes legends at home.”

Among the most famous to come through the club are Zico, a former No. 10 on Brazil’s national team; top goal-scorer Adriano, who rose to fame at Inter Milan; and current Real Madrid star Vinicius, Jr., who not long ago was living in the structure destroyed by the fire.

As news of the fire broke, several teams and players expressed their condolences on Twitter.

“We are extremely sad and shaken by the news of the fire,” tweeted Chapecoense, a team in southern Brazil that lost 22 players in a plane crash in 2016.

Meet Clive Sefton, the Brighton based artist hosting November’s artrepublic Kids Club

We asked the local creative to puzzle out a few of our questions.

The first crossword puzzle was designed by Arthur Wynne and printed in the New York World in 1913, the earliest word search is credited to Spanish puzzle maker Pedro Ocon de Oro in the first half of the 20th century and Sudoku… well that’s got a non-Japanese heritage that goes back far further than the early Noughties brain-training craze. Graphic artist Clive Sefton has created his own play on the soup of letters – the original name for a word search – and it’s one that has the ability to ignite a similar warm, glowy feeling to the one you get after completing an energising workout. We’ll let the artist himself explain that one. As he prepares to host the November artrepublic Kids Club, we caught up with Sefton to talk typography, noticing hidden details, the challenges of long words and all things puzzle-based.

Brighton Word Search by Clive Sefton

Word searches, mazes, diamond hunts – all of your artworks are highly structured finished pieces, but also playful starting points. Is there a hidden life lesson in here for us?!

With a background in graphic design, I like clean, minimal design and good use of white space. I also enjoy artwork that people can interact with and that brings a smile to their faces. In creating my work I’ve discovered that finding a word or the correct path through a maze releases dopamine, the reward chemical, so people actually feel better for looking at my work!

With ‘One In A Million’, I love how people can view it so differently. Some people spend ages looking for the diamond, some people almost don’t care where the diamond is, and some people are more interested in the process or how much the diamond cost…!

Speaking of ‘One in a Million’ – how do you decide where to place each diamond? Is it random or incredibly specific?

I place the diamond in a random place in each one, though can position it in a specific place in a commissioned piece. This might be the coordinates of a geographic location or relate to a specific date. Only the person who owns the piece has the coordinates of where the diamond is hidden.

While we’re on the topic of pathways and finding things, can you talk us through your route to becoming a full-time artist?

I did a silkscreen printing course with Jane Sampson. Initially I was printing pictures of prawns and crabs but in exploring what I am interested in, specifically typography and ‘accessible’ artwork, the first ‘Brighton Word Search’ came about.

I did the course just after reading ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter so, as well as really enjoying doing the course, I did have this thought in the back of my mind about how good it would be to be able to make back the money that I had spent on it. The difficulty is taking the step to show your work to people you don’t know, as it’s only then that you can tell if people want to buy it.

We’re lucky in Brighton: we have so many opportunities to show our work with little cost up front, and there are so many artists and art buyers around. I first exhibited the Brighton Word Search in an Artists Open House and as well as selling all of the edition, I received my first commission.

Since then I’ve learnt so much and created different work, but I’m still creating Word Search pieces for people of all ages, and across the world.

Your images encourage people to deeply engage with the artwork – to hunt out the details or hidden pieces. What do you find yourself focusing on or looking at closely in art or life?

I love finding faces and animals in everyday life, apparently a phenomenon known as pareidolia. I had an idea a few years ago based on creating images from discarded chewing gum but that hasn’t quite seen the light of day… I also love repeating patterns and grids, whether it be lines on shutters, flyers posted on a wall or even just a sheet of labels!

On the flipside of that, are there any things you avoid focusing on at all costs?

I’m a bit of a perfectionist so many ideas get parked if it’s not quite right.

The longest word in the dictionary is 45 letters long (and a bit of a misery, as it goes) – how big would one of your word searches have to be to hide that monster?! And would you want to work on that scale?

I must admit I had to look up what the word is! A square piece with Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis it would require over 2000 letters in the complete piece – not too much of a problem for a print, but quite a bit of time to make using fridge magnets.

What is the most complex piece you’ve worked on to date? And can you give us any hints at upcoming projects we might want to look out for?

I’ve just created another word search commission using fridge magnets, which I really enjoyed making. I’m also working on another edition of ‘One In A Million’ as the original was so well received.

Finally, you’re hosting the artrepublic Kids Club in November. As a kid, what was your favourite activity and has it ever come into play in your work as an adult?

I used to really enjoy making small FIMO models that I sold to craft shops for window displays, usually in return for free FIMO!

Find out how your little ones can join in with the artrepublic Kids Club.
