Stephen Colbert Mocks Trump’s ‘Desperate’ Chief of Staff Search

We weren’t supposed to know about John Kelly’s departure as President Trump’s chief of staff until Monday. As The New York Times reported over the weekend, Trump agreed to let Kelly made the announcement on his own terms. But then before he could do it, the president blurted out the decision to reporters on Saturday.

Imitating Trump, Stephen Colbert said in his Late Show monologue Monday night, “I would like to humbly announce that it was me who dumped him. No matter what he tells you, that’s what happened. I’m the one who said we should see other presidents, OK? I just wasn’t that into him.”

Of course, Trump thought he had a replacement for Kelly lined up in the vice president’s chief of staff, or as Colbert referred to him, “bro who’s not going to let those nerds hold a luau on campus while he’s president of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Nick Ayers.”

Of Course Stephen Colbert Has Plenty of Jokes About Trump at Bush’s Funeral

President Donald Trump attended the funeral of former President George H.W. Bush on Wednesday, and of course, Stephen Colbert, found the humor. “They even assured him that the choir would drown out the sound of other ex-presidents rolling in their graves,” Colbert joked in his monologue on Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Show.

The late-night host pointed out that not insulting Trump was nearly impossible by virtue of comparison, like when Bush’s biographer Jon Meacham said in his eulogy that Bush “life code was: tell the truth; don’t blame people.” Colbert wondered if that was already bending the rules. “As soon as you start praising someone’s honesty, you’re automatically throwing shade at Donald Trump. I mean, Obama made Trump seem like a bad president just by sitting next to him.”

Speaking of former President Barack Obama, Colbert said, “It was quite a moving sight to see the presidents and the first ladies in the front row, waiting to honor President Bush, chatting comfortably with one another,” Colbert said. “Until Trump showed up, and then it became silent-staring time. Donald Trump is the only person in the world who can bring down a funeral.”

Jon Stewart Turns the Tables on Stephen Colbert: ‘Donald Trump, Great President or Greatest President?’

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS

Three years into his stint hosting The Late Show, Stephen Colbert is finally starting to feel “a little bit like Jon Stewart.”

For a change of pace Tuesday night, CBS aired a pre-taped episode of the late-night show in which the tables were turned as Colbert sat in the guest chair and took questions from friends like Jake Tapper, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Kerry Washington, Charlamagne tha God and most significantly, his former boss at The Daily Show.

Stewart began his interview by asking Colbert, “Who the hell do you think you are?” That prompted the host’s admission that he is beginning to feel like he is able to pick up Stewart’s mantle as the most trusted man in political comedy.

Stephen Colbert Explains Why He Wants Trump to Run for President Again in 2020

Scott Kowalchyk/CBS

Last year, Joe Scarborough went on The Late Show to declare his independence from the Republican Party (after hyping Trump for most of the campaign). This week, he urged voters to put a check on Donald Trump in the midterm elections.

Discussing the president’s unconscionable response to the apparent murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, Scarborough’s Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said, “That can’t be our reality, and at some point this has to end one way or another.”

“You know a great way for it to end is for everybody to get out that gives a damn about this republic and, 19 days from now, go out and vote,” Scarborough said. “Whether you’re a Republican, whether you’re a Democrat, whether you’re an independent, you have to agree that Donald Trump needs to be checked.” Without exactly spelling it out for viewers, he was telling them to vote for Democrats who will be that check, adding, “This is the most important election of our lives.”

Stephen Colbert doesn’t think much of Trump’s ‘natural instinct for science’

TwitterFacebook

Despite his resistance to believing climate change is manmade, which is in opposition to his scientists’ beliefs, Donald Trump told the Associated Press yesterday that he has a “natural instinct for science.”

It’s because of the president’s uncle, MIT professor Dr. John Trump, who it turns out he didn’t talk to “about this particular subject.”

“Why did you bring up your science uncle if you’ve never talked to him about science?” Colbert asked on The Late Show Wednesday night.

“And second, you have a natural instinct for science? That’s not how knowledge works. You don’t inherit it from your uncle. The most you get from your uncle is your own nose back,” he joked. Read more…

Stephen Colbert Has Had It With Trump’s Elizabeth Warren DNA Witch-Hunt

CBS

Stephen Colbert had to sit down to talk about the renewed feud between President Donald Trump and the U.S. senator he refers to as “Pocahontas” Monday night.

“Well, after years of mocking Elizabeth Warren, clearly the president must have had a lot to say about these test results,” the Late Show host said of the Democratic senator’s decision to put out confirmation that she does, in fact, have some Native American ancestry. And yet, asked by reporters for his response, Trump replied, “Who cares?”

“You care!” Colbert told the president. “You’re literally the only person who cares.”

Stephen Colbert Made a Musical Kavanaugh Parody

Stephen Colbert had jokes after a former classmate alleged that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh got into a bar fight after attending a UB40 concert in 1985, while he was a student at Yale University.

In a clip aired on Tuesday night, Colbert and the Late Show team parodied UB40’s hit, “Red Red Wine,” with lyrics that reference the controversy surrounding allegations of drunken behavior, along with interpolated clips of Kavanaugh’s testimony in the song.

The song comes after Monday’s reports that inspired the parody; according to a report by the New York Times, the fight allegedly started when Kavanaugh and friends thought they spotted the lead singer of UB40 at a bar, a misunderstanding that escalated.

For their part, UB40 seems to want no part in the Kavanaugh drama, taking to their Twitter to address the renewed focus on their band.

Watch the full clip of the Kavanaugh “Red Red Wine” parody below.
