HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has donated $ 10,000 each to the Salvation Army Hawaii and Red Cross Hawaii to support local disaster relief services for Hawaii Island residents affected by the Kilauea volcanic eruption.
The lava flow that began May 3 forced the evacuation of 1,800 residents living in lower Puna. Red Cross Hawaii is providing food, toiletries, blankets, and health and mental health services at shelters in Pahoa and Keaau for more than 200 displaced residents. The Salvation Army Hawaii is coordinating donations of food, clothing and water, delivering supplies and providing additional disaster relief services.
“During emergencies like these, the Salvation Army Hawaii and Red Cross Hawaii provide essential services and support that help local communities in the recovery effort,” said Frank Richardson, vice president of legal, government and community relations at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. “We’re proud to support these organizations as they continue to provide relief and hope to our neighbors on Hawaii Island.”
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is also encouraging employees to donate to Salvation Army Hawaii or Red Cross Hawaii to support recovery efforts on Hawaii Island.
