Nearly two weeks after a fiery explosion during a ground test of its new crew capsule, SpaceX confirmed on Thursday that the vehicle was destroyed, but neither the company nor NASA, its primary customer, have publicly acknowledged the nature of the mishap.

Is J. Crew trying to pass off J. Crew Factory stuff as “J. Crew Essentials”?

Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here’s why.

And here’s one: You know that confident feeling you get when wearing your favorite suit? Imagine feeling that way about your finances. Personal Capital tracks your net worth and spending for free, so you know where your savings stand and how your investments are performing. Get started here.

Reddit: J. Crew Essential = J. Crew Factory?

First they tried re-labeling J. Crew Factory as “J. Crew Mercantile.” Then they just started mixing a bit of that Mercantile / J. Crew Factory stuff in with the regular line on jcrew.com. Now? It appears that J. Crew has started to ditch the J. Crew Factory / Mercantile branding on their main site, in favor of calling the lower-line product “Essential,” yet still selling it among the regular rank and file stuff on jcrew.com.

And it’s all pretty clear to see that it’s simply renamed and relocated factory/mercantile stuff, thanks to the branding on the items in question (as shown up top).

Even stranger? “Essential” items on the J. Crew site don’t match the prices on the Factory/Mercantile Site. And not always in a way you might expect:

J. Crew

Left: J. Crew | Right: J. Crew Factory
“Comparable.” But to what? NOT your other website?

So far, this seems to be limited to just cheap knits like t-shirts. But it appears to be another step down the what-the-hell-trail for J. Crew, and it’s confusing. When tipster Kurtis K. sent in an email about this hubub (thanks Kurtis!) I was confused.

I thought he was referring to the “J. Crew Always” line. Which is another line, but that’s stuff resurrected from their past. It’s not the Essential line. Or label. Or… hell I don’t know.

No word on whether or not that “J. Crew Always” stuff will be sold on the J. Crew Factory/Mercantile site along with the yet to be re-branded J. Crew Essentials stuff. Maybe they could call it J. Crew Always Essentials? Or maybe the company will go super meta, and start selling their flagship, half canvas Ludlow suits on the cheap Factory/Mercantile site and label them “J. Crew Factory Fundamental Splurges which are actually Ludlow suits but please call them Fundamental Splurges m’kay?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Richard Madden rules out series two of Bodyguard before 2020 as crew ‘need a break’

BODYGUARD fans will have to wait until at least 2020 for a second series, according to one of its stars.

Richard Madden, 31, has dashed hopes of returning to the screens as protection officer David Budd anytime soon.

Bodyguard fans will have to wait until at least 2020 for another series., according to Richard Madden
BBC

He told the Daily Mail: “Budd needs a break a sort his life out.

“You just can’t slap a script together and throw it onto the screen.

“It has to be carefully thought through. First of all, what is the story?”

Richard won a Golden Globe for best actor in a TV drama this weekend for his role on the Bodyguard.

Richard Madden has become a firm favourite on Bodyguard
BBC

His star is rising and he has even been linked with taking over the role of James Bond.

Richard’s ever rising popularity also means the show may risk him not being available.

He added: “What’s the next step for a character like David Budd? The thinking is for all of us to have a break and come back to it fresh maybe in a year or so.

“I enjoyed playing him and I think the public liked him. We’ll get together and see what’s there.”

Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio revealed he’d be interested in returning to the political thriller.

He told the Daily Mirror: “I have got some ideas for a second series, but it is worth waiting until the run is finished to see which bits worked and which bits didn’t work for the audience.”

After the last episode ended on September 23, 2018, The Sun exclusively revealed that Jed is writing FOUR spin-off shows from Bodyguard.

After Juliet was killed in an explosion in episode four there has been much speculation that Julia is still alive.

The theory was strengthened after eagle-eyed fans spotted that Keeley Hawes was listed on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com) as appearing in the final episode.

But however, there was no sign of her in the season finale and she is in fact really dead.

BEST DEAL UPDATE (UK):

J. Crew: 50% off Most Full Priced their site crashed on Black Friday Sale

TGIF = 50% off at J. Crew (exp Sun 11/25)

What the hell was that? The biggest shopping day of the year, an unusually high discount for the brand in question, a company that’s struggling… and their site crashes and burns?

I’m guessing not a lot of people in the J. Crew tech department was saying “TGIF” yesterday. Plus, that code would imply that it expired on Friday. When their site was in the gutter, twitching uncontrollably. But it DIDN’T expire yesterday. It expires today. Saturday, 11/24. So in case anyone still cares, and has any cash left you’d care to spend, here’s the best of the best from this rare half off sale at J. Crew. Now do me a favor and keep your darn site up and running today, okay J. Crew?

SUNDAY UPDATE: After more website trouble yesterday, J. Crew decided to extend this 50% off TGIF code through today (Sunday, 11/25.) It appears that the J. Crew website is stable. For now.

Goodyear Welted Kenton Leather Pacer Boots – $ 124 ($ 228)

Absurdly good prices for this in-house, Goodyear Welted boot. Lots of sizes at post time, which is kinda crazy considering the price. Indiana Jones boots for the not quite as well-off.

Ludlow Shawl-Collar Velvet Blazer – $ 149 ($ 298)

Ludlow Shawl-Collar Velvet Blazer

It’s too sexy! Look, velvet blazers aren’t for everyone, especially with that throw-back shawl collar, but now if you’re unsure? The risk has been mitigated by the major discount. Big fan of that dark green.

Rugged Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Pullover in Heather or Donegal – $ 49 ($ 98)

J. Crew Rugged Merino Wool Shawl-Collar Cardigan Sweater

Four color options. Basically the same sweater (at least it looks to be from here?) but one is considered to be heathered, and the other is donegal. Beats me.

Legacy Blazer in American Wool in Ludlow or Crosby Fit – $ 175 ($ 350)

Dappered.com

A total classic that’s not the frumpy gold-buttoned, hard shoulder kind that your boss favors on the weekend.

Ludlow Blazer in Herringbone English Tweed – $ 149 ($ 298)

Dappered.com

These always make the annual best sportcoats of fall post and for good reason. Softer tweed than what you might be envisioning. Less construction too. Half lined. Shown above is a 40R on 5’10″/ 185. Full review here.

New Balance for J. Crew 791 Leather Sneakers – $ 37.40 ($ 79)

Killshot knock offs! Wait, can you knock off one of your own collaborations with another collaboration? Doesn’t matter. They’re on sale, and thus, getting an additional 50% off. Crazy.

Slim American Pima Cotton OCBD – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

J. Crew OCBD

A classic OCBD that comes in a true slim fit and is made from American grown Supima cotton. Tons of colors to pick from. Yes, they’re made overseas, but the reviews are solid. Are there cheaper OCBD options out there? Absolutely. But not many now that they’re half off.

Rugged Merino Wool/Nylon Heather Crewneck Sweater – $ 34.75 ($ 69.50)

J. Crew Rugged Merino Wool/Nylon Heather Crewneck Sweater

A basic that you’ve got to admit is at a pretty solid price. Merino wool + nylon blend. Lots of colors to pick from.

Made in Italy MacAllister Desert Boots – $ 74 ($ 148)

Made in Italy MacAllister Desert Boots

Stitched out welt construction. Three versatile colors to choose from. A little slimmer than some bulkier desert boots. Really nice price for the made in Italy factor.

Oar Stripe Goodyear Welted Chelsea Boots in Italian Leather – $ 149 ($ 298)

Oar Stripe Chelsea Boots

Well? Someone was able to get through their site yesterday. Because these are close to sold out now. Still worth a check if you’re in the market for Chelseas. Shown above is the “burnished ruby.” Not sure how RED OH MY GOSH RED those are gonna be in person, or if they’ll be more of a chili or oxblood. Lots of sizes left on those.

Dock Peacoat with Thinsulate – $ 149 ($ 298)

J. Crew Dock Peacoat

J. Crew’s take on the classic Peacoat, now down for around Army/Navy surplus store prices. And these can compete with the real thing. Good wool, a bit of insulation, those hand warmer pockets are a huge benefit, and it’s slightly longer than far too many peacoats that chop the tail short.

Oar Stripe Leather Weekender – $ 199 ($ 398)

Oar Stripe Leather Weekender

I don’t know how the leather quality is on these things. Just one review so far, and it’s encouraging, but know that in the past J. Crew has been a little hit or miss on leather accessories.

Oar Stripe Canvas Weekender Bag – $ 124 ($ 248)

Oar Stripe Canvas Weekender Bag

A less expensive version of the all leather option. Less leather will do that.

Ludlow wide-lapel suit jacket in Italian worsted wool + slim or classic pant = $ 384.49

It’s the slimmer fitting Ludlow jacket, but with a wider more timeless lapel. The jacket is on sale, while the pants are not. So total still comes in under $ 400 for a versatile, “Harbor” blue suit separates pair that should serve you well. Crosby fit jackets are available, but sizing is limited.

Oar Stripe Italian Leather Derbys – $ 149 ($ 298)

Oar Stripe Italian Leather Derbys

The bluchers of their new Italian Leather collection. Goodyear welted. One fifty. Not bad for a basic shoe that’s about the shoe-iest shoe to ever shoe.

Windowpane Cashmere Scarf – $ 49 ($ 98)

J. Crew Windowpane Cashmere Scarf

A lot of brands push solid cashmere scarfs this time of year. And that’s fine and understandable. But it doesn’t take much of a pattern to set a scarf apart. And here’s the proof.

Cashmere Seedstitch Beanie – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

J. Crew Cashmere Seed-stitch Beanie

Speaking of small details that can set something apart, check out that stitch. All cashmere once again.

Goodyear Welted Kenton Cap Toe Boots – $ 124 ($ 248)

Kenton Cap Toe Boot

Still Goodyear Welted. Still an absurd price point thanks to the sale. But sizes are starting to get a little short here. Fast. Also shown at the top of the post.

Field mechanic jacket – $ 99 ($ 198)

A cotton, 3 season (or year-round if you live in a warm climate) classic. One of the better reviewed items from J. Crew’s line up.

Ludlow Suit Dinner Jacket in Camel Hair – $ 224 ($ 448)

Ludlow Suit Dinner Jacket in Camel Hair

A niche piece. But a really good looking one.

Wallace & Barnes merino wool cardigan sweater – $ 60 ($ 120)

I nice, slightly more substantial (but still not bulky?) looking cardigan from the upgraded Wallace & Barnes line. All wool here. Contrast “racked” stitching at the placket and at other stylistically strategic points.

Navy windowpane alpaca scarf – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

Super soft, Alpaca wool with a windowpane pattern. Light base with a dark windowpane, which flips the contrast script compared to most other windowpane scarves.

Letterman Jacket in Wool – $ 114 ($ 228)

J. Crew Letterman Jacket

What do you call a wool, colorblocked bomber? That’d be a letterman jacket. No letters necessary here either. Also available in a burgundy option that looks more campus-like thanks to a striped collar.

14-Wale Cords in SlimStraight, or Athletic Fit in Pacific Navy – $ 39.75 ($ 79.50)

J. Crew Cords

Yes you can find cords for less (see GAP), but some of you are pretty tied to J. Crew’s pant fits. All three fits available here. Lots of colors to pick from. Cotton with a bit of elastane for stretch.

Ludlow Unconstructed Wool/Cotton Blazer – $ 99 ($ 198)

Ludlow Unconstructed Wool/Cotton Blazer

No lining here except for the sleeves. A little less stuffy compared to a traditional, hard shouldered, gold buttoned navy blazer. Full review here. Also available in a grey as well as a tan “sandy dune.”

Wallace & Barnes Cableknit Crewneck Sweater – $ 55 ($ 110)

Wallace & Barnes Cableknit Crewneck Sweater

Not bad for an all wool, classic cable, not-quite-fisherman’s sweater from their upgraded Wallace and Barnes line.  For being such a simple piece, this thing has a lot of potential.

Merino Wool Wide Placket V-Neck Cardigan Sweater – $ 44.75 ($ 89.50)

J. Crew Merino Wool Wide Placket V-Neck Cardigan Sweater

Big fan of J. Crew’s merino cardigans. Nice material, available in classic or slim fit, and unlike much of the competition, there’s a good sized placket here. Thin cardigan plackets can look a little feminine sometimes. Just wish they made them in more colors. You can have it in any color you’d like… as long as it’s navy.

Lightweight Striped Wool-Blend Scarf – $ 29.75 ($ 59.50)

J. Crew Lightweight Striped Wool-Blend Scarf

Preppy without going overboard. And sometimes you don’t need that super thick muffler, but you still need a scarf to cover up that V at the top of your topcoat. These’ll do the trick nicely.

Wool Sideline Jacket – $ 149 ($ 298)

J. Crew Wool Sidline Jacket

It’s becoming sport for some millenials to rip on J. Crew in their reviews section. As is evidenced by the one review these things are getting. Look, two things can be true. This jacket could stink to high heaven, and the reviewer could also be a whiner. I don’t know. But $ 150 for this seems like a fair risk.

American Lambswool Bird’s-Eye Cardigan Sweater – $ 60 ($ 120)

J. Crew American Lambswool Bird's-Eye Cardigan Sweater

Looks a little less Mr. Rogers and a little more Gatsby’s next door neighbor Nick. Wool is sourced from the same mill that makes up the sweater blazer.

Ludlow Garment Duffle Bag – $ 124 ($ 248)

Ludlow Garment Duffle Bag

And now… some luggage for those who are gonna be travelling with a packed suit or sportcoats this upcoming season. Cotton canvas body, and unzips/unfurls so you can get your suit or jackets (and shoes and what not) to and fro while minimizing creasing and wrinkling risks. Yes, the zippers weren’t designed the best (read the reviews) but attaching a couple of pulls should solve that problem. And most bags like this will run you a heck of a lot more money.

Destination Topcoat in Water Resistant Italian Wool – $ 237.50 ($ 475)

J. Crew Destination Topcoat

Not gonna lie. This is a love it or hate it. (Yet I find myself, personally, somewhere dead inbetween?) This thing is a true knee length, while the rest of the topcoat world has been going just above the knee / mid thigh. And there’s NO vent in the rear. So it’s really… tubular? But what it DOES have going for it, is the middle to lighter weight but still warm and very nice feeling fabric. If you run hot? This is a great coat. J. Crew’s “destination” line is supposed to be a merging of classic materials and technology. So, think breathable, lighter-weight, etc. They say it’s tweed, but it’s soft. Not super rough. Hardly. Raglan style shoulders. Covered placket. Size shown above is a 42R.

The J. Crew 50% off lots of full price & sale stuff code TGIF is set to expire today, 11/24/18. Fingers crossed their website doesn’t crash again.

Kim Woodburn reveals I’m A Celeb crew in camp lurk in the bushes ready to stop snake attacks

I’M A Celebrity has employed “hundreds” of security staff to crawl through the bush and stop venomous snakes reaching stars in camp.

Skilled handlers jumped into action if a celeb was in danger, as Kim exclusively told The Sun: “You don’t see anybody when you’re there, but there are hundreds of security people throughout the jungle in camouflage equipment

“On your way to that dunny that stinks to high heaven, you might see one in the bushes.

“They are there because if you see a snake, or anything you think is frightening you shout “snake!” and you know that they are in that spot in a second.”

The likes of Fleur East, Emily Atack and Sair Khan signed up this year and have been shut off from the world.

Kim said they’ll soon get used to being blanked by crew members too, as the production team is banned from speaking to them.

She added: “The only other time you would see anybody is when they tell you to come up to the bushes and you’ll find a couple of chaps in camouflage and they want to change your battery.

“You turn round, he doesn’t say a word. You say thank you, he doesn’t say thank you back, and down you walk.”

Kim’s insight comes after former I’m A Celeb runner up Jake Quickenden said the staff fear getting sacked if they open their mouths.

Sunday Steal Alert: 50% off J. Crew Italian Flannel Suiting

Stretch Italian Wool Flannel Suits – $ 343 w/ GOLDENDEAL ($ 686)

In totally unrelated news, J. Crew just canned their new-ish CEO. He came from West Elm and was in the gig for 16 months.

Anywho, J. Crew is running something called “golden deals” that seem to last for just one day, and today’s is a nifty little seasonal treat for those of us that like to suit up even in the coldest weather.

Dark Charcoal or Night Sky blue. Both Ludlow and Classic jackets and pants.

Their stretch Italian wool flannel suit separates, both in Ludlow slim AND their more generous classic fits, are getting a big 50% off cut. Just use that GOLDENDEAL code at checkout. Sizes are a bit scattered on the classic side, which stinks for those of us with a bit more meat on our frames.

Big thanks to Andrew C. for the tip.

That’s all. Carry on.

Monday Sales Tripod – Nordy Rack’s Clear the Rack, J. Crew Oar Stripe Shoes & Boots Sale, & More

The Thursday Handfuls are great, but what if Monday (or Tuesday) rolls around and there are a few sales that can’t wait til the weekend? You’ll find three of the best, with a few picks from each, to start the week below.

Editor’s Note: Yes we’re posting today. For the last few years we’ve sat the “Veterans Day” sales out because the term just sounds odd (much like Memorial Day sales). But after hearing from more than a few Vets, our silence has probably been misplaced. Word is even stores on Military bases have Veterans Day sales, so, while much of the world sees November 11th (and the observance around it) as a solemn occasion, here in the States it’s a bit different. Our policy on keeping quiet on Memorial Day won’t change, but for Vets day, we’ve been given the green light from you guys in the Military. Thanks for all that you do.

#1. Nordstrom Rack: Extra 25% off Clearance Items

Nordstrom Rack

Not only is Nordstrom proper running a big fall sale, their outlet branch Nordstrom Rack is running an extra 25% off clearance items. That means prices that have seriously bottomed out. No code needed here. Prices are as marked online. Sale ends today.

#2. Jomashop: Extra 25% off Select Citizen Watches w/ CTZ25

Citizen Watches

Not a bad price for the Nighthawk. And that Promaster certainly could have been included in our recent best desk divers round up.

#3. J. Crew: 30% off w/ FRIENDS (or 35% off for rewards members w/FAMILY)

J. Crew

Getting another mention because I don’t recall all of those shoes getting that discount last week when this sale launched? I don’t have any in-person experience with their new oar-stripe shoe collection, but they’re claiming Italian leathers and Goodyear Welts. Don’t forget that you can save 35% (instead of just 30%) by simply signing up for their free rewards program. Prices above reflect that 35% off.

BONUS  Lands’ End 50% off Full Price (no limit) w/ GOLD & 9624

I can’t recall the last time Lands’ End did something like this. Usually there’s a caveat of just one item getting the deal when they go half off. So half off all full price items? No limit? Not bad at all.

BONUS II  Nordstrom Fall Sale Still Going on

Full picks over here. And as always, everything ships and returns for free thanks to Uncle Nordy.

Also worth a mention…
