Marcia Cross saved by check-up

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcia Cross credits a routine medical check with saving her life.
The 57-year-old star was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2017 and admitted the news came as a shock as she had no symptoms so couldn’t believe what came to like during an annual visit to her gynaecologist.
Speaking on ‘CBS This Morning’, she said: “I was so not thinking anything was wrong because I didn’t have any symptoms.
“She gave me an exam and came around and said, ‘Well, I just want you to know, whatever it is it’s curable.’ It was like – ‘What?! What are you talking about?’ ”
Doctors suspect Marcia’s cancer and her husband Tom Mahoney’s 2009 battle with throat cancer came from the same type of human papillomavirus, (HPV), which can be transferred through sexual intercourse or skin-to-skin contact, so the couple – who are both in remission – are planning to have their 12-year-old twin daughters, Eden and Savannah, vaccinated against HPV very soon.
Marcia said: “My girls don’t know it, but they’re up for their first shot at the end of the school year.”
The former ‘Desperate Housewives’ star hopes she can end the embarrassment surrounding anal cancer and doesn’t want sufferers to feel “ashamed” of the condition.
She said: “I know there are people who are ashamed. You have cancer! Do you have to then also feel ashamed? Like you did something bad, you know, because it took up residence in your anus?
“I mean, come on, really. There’s enough on your plate.
“Even for me, it took a while. Anus, anus, anus! You just have to get used to it.”

Nike to Open New U.K. Headquarters at London’s King’s Cross

NIKE’S LONDON MOVE: Nike is slipping on its running shoes and heading north to King’s Cross in London. It plans to move its headquarters to the new development there, joining Google, Facebook, Universal Music and LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which have already moved in, or are set to settle into the neighborhood.
At more than 60,000 square feet, the new Nike headquarters will be nearly double the size of the current one on Wardour Street in Soho. The company is due to move into the new building next year after building work is complete.
A real estate source has confirmed British media reports that the new location will be S1, a building in King’s Cross that is under construction, on the corner of Handyside Street and Canal Reach.
The London-based French architect Michel Mossessian, who worked on the NATO headquarters in Brussels and on the Marks & Spencer head offices in London’s Bayswater, is designing the Nike building.
He is also working on the adjacent building, which has already been pre-let to Google.
The Nike offices will be in close proximity to the recently opened retail space, Coal Drops Yard, and near King’s Cross and St. Pancras train stations. Central Saint Martins is also

Caribbean Women Reported as First All-Black Women’s Rowing Team to Cross Atlantic Ocean in Grueling Sport Competition

Four women from Antigua have just completed a grueling rowing competition and many are heralding them as the first all-black women’s rowing team to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Their official team name is Team Antigua- The Island Girls.

Competitive rowers Elvira Bell, Christal Clashing, Samara Emmanuel, and Kevinia Francis participated in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. They set course on Dec. 12 from the Canary Islands and landed in Antigua on Jan. 30—a 3,000-mile trip. A fifth member of the team, Junella King did not actively participate in the race, but trained with the others and served as an alternate.

According to the Indy100 website, the rowing race is one of the toughest in the world. Rowers burn an average of 8,000 calories during the competition.

The women competed in name of their chosen charity, Cottage of Hope, which offers short- and long-term residency to girls who are abused, neglected, or orphaned. Their goal was to raise $ 150,000 for the organization.

The nation of Antigua burst into collective celebration as the women finished the race. As per The Loop, the country’s government officials shortened a budget debate so that politicians could be present when the team arrived in their homeland. Public and private institutions closed early so that more people could meet with and congratulate the team.

The team battled sea sickness and their boat nearly capsized at one point during their journey, reports The Daily Observer. They were presented with a gift by Antigua’s Prime Minister upon their return.

The team’s website has bios of each team member. Christal Clashing is an adventure guide and travel writer. In 2004, she became the first female swimmer to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the Olympics.

Elvira Bell is a swim instructor and a certified health coach. Samara Emmanuel is the first Antiguan woman to become a certified yacht captain and has more than 12 years’ seafarer experience. She is also a certified day skipper, coastal skipper, yacht master, and boat master among a lengthy list of certifications.

Kevinia Francis is a title-winning, all-around athlete who excels in basketball, cycling, martial arts, and track-and-field.

Junella King is just 17-years-old. She juggles school and sailing while working part-time as a sailing instructor.

Brooklyn Beckham Spotted With New Girlfriend Hana Cross

Might Hana Cross be The One for Brooklyn Beckham? The couple left a Fashion Awards afterparty holding hands on Monday, December 10, confirming their budding relationship.

Photos from the event show Beckham, 19, leading Cross, 21, through a group of photographers and into a black cab outside the afterparty’s North London venue on Monday night. He wore a white shirt half-tucked into his skinny jeans, while she sported a white crop top, a black blazer and patterned slacks.

The same evening, Cross posted an Instagram Stories video of herself and Beckham dancing to The Jacksons’ “Blame It On the Boogie.”

The model has hung out with Beckham at least three times last month, according to The Sun: The couple visited London’s Hyde Park Winter Wonderland attraction, took in a Mumford & Sons concert at the city’s O2 Arena and met up with Brooklyn’s parents — David Beckham and Victoria Beckham — at the Haig Club House Party in Notting Hill.

Brooklyn may have started dating Cross even earlier, though. His left hand, recognizable from the eagle tattoo on his wrist, appears in a photo she posted to Instagram in October.

The photographer was previously in a relationship with actress Chloë Grace Moretz. “I think we chose each other,” the Suspiria star, 21, told Us Weekly in 2017. “It’s been years now off and on and it’s just one of those things, you come back, and it’s like no time spent away from each other at all.”

Since Brooklyn and Moretz’s split earlier this year, he’s been photographed with musician Lexy Panterra, model Alex Lee Aillón and model Lexi Woods. Meanwhile, Moretz was spotted kissing model Kate Harrison earlier this month.

Should Halloween Costumes Cross Racial Lines?

PHOENIX (AP) — When Colorado attorney Jeff Schwartz asked his 7-year-old son what he wanted to dress as this Halloween, the answer was clear: his favorite movie superhero, “Black Panther.”

Schwartz said his white son’s choice of a black character didn’t give him pause.

“I didn’t give it a second thought,” said Schwartz. “I think that if my son wants to idolize a character — be it a black character or a white character — race doesn’t need to come into it at all.”

NBC talk show host Megyn Kelly’s comments about blackface on Halloween have reinvigorated a debate over costumes that cross racial lines and what’s appropriate at a time when diverse movie and TV characters like Black Panther have become hugely popular.

The issue has reverberated across social media, from magazine articles about white children wearing Black Panther costumes to protests against costumes that perpetuate Native American stereotypes. Social media debates have focused on whether political correctness is spoiling the spirit of the holiday.

The fallout was swift for Kelly, who wondered on her show why dressing up in blackface for Halloween is racist: NBC said Friday it was canceling “Megyn Kelly Today.” She found little support from her NBC colleagues, including Al Roker who called on her to apologize to people of color nationwide. He later was asked on Twitter if a woman’s white son was OK to dress as Black Panther.

“Sure he can. Just don’t try to wear dark makeup on,” Roker wrote.

Others chimed in on the thread, including Schwartz, whose son only wants to don the Marvel character’s vibranium suit.

“We should encourage our kids to have black heroes whether they’re white or black kids. That’s healthy,” Schwartz said.

Some articles warn white parents away from such a choice, arguing that while Black Panther’s fabled homeland “Wakanda” isn’t a real place, the character’s race is essential to his identity.

Elise Barrow, a black mother of three in New York City, said she and her husband tried to persuade their 5-year-old son to be Black Panther, but he opted to be a dinosaur instead. Barrow said she was torn by the debate.

“Kids want to be what they want to be. I’m not going to prevent them,” Barrow said. “If my son wants to be Captain America, I’m not going to say no.”

A similar issue cropped up in recent years with the animated features “Moana,” set in ancient Polynesia, and Pixar’s “Coco,” which centers on a Mexican boy named Miguel and his family. A few months before “Moana’s” November 2016 release, Disney pulled a costume based on the character of Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson. The ensemble included a brown bodysuit with Polynesian tattoos and a faux-grass skirt. Some argued that it was off-putting to have a child wear the skin of another race.

Jim Quirk, a white father of three in St. Paul, Minnesota, said adults should stop projecting concerns about race and gender onto what is essentially “a kids’ holiday.”

“They want to be princesses, doctors, Black Panther or whatever,” Quirk said. “They do it because they want to be like them. It’s adults who put meaning onto these things.”

But he acknowledges there are some things that are over the line, such as blackface.

“You shouldn’t be disrespectful,” Quirk said.

Calling out cultural appropriation is what drives Amanda Blackhorse, a longtime activist against the use of Native images for mascots and logos. On Wednesday, Blackhorse and others demonstrated outside the Phoenix headquarters of Yandy.com, a lingerie company that has been selling “sexy” Native costumes including one marketed as “Chief Wansum Tail.”

Her group delivered an online petition with thousands of signatures calling on Yandy to stop using Native American culture for costumes.

“The people have always looked at or seen Native people through stereotypes — through headdresses, buckskin and fringe,” Blackhorse said. “This company is perpetuating that. They think that’s who we are. They don’t see us as different tribes.”

The group wants Yandy to discontinue the line, issue an apology and donate any proceeds from the costumes to agencies that help Native American women. A spokeswoman for Yandy did not respond to a message seeking comment.

Yandy’s far from the only retailer offering such costumes. Amazon.com and other mainstream sites offer Halloween-wear based on Asian stereotypes such as a geisha or “dragon lady.” There are also Mexican-inspired outfits that include a poncho, sombrero and mustache and a “sexy senorita” dress.

Kelly’s blackface comments, meanwhile, left many outraged.

“Back when I was a kid that was OK as long as you were dressing up as like a character,” Kelly said in discussion with an all-white panel.

Blackface dates back to the 1830s when white performers would put on dark makeup, wigs and exaggerated costumes, mocking slaves, according to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. They often depicted black people as lazy, ignorant or cowardly. Decades later, movie stars like Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland wore blackface on screen.
