So Cute! 7-Year-Old Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja Wows the Crowd With Her Rendition of the National Anthem at the LA Galaxy Soccer Match [Video]

A 7-year-old Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja belted out the national anthem before Sunday’s match between the LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders and she sang her little heart out!

There’s not much for us to say — but take a look at the video below!

For those wondering where such a tiny tot got such big pipes, her father Arman Tjandrawidjaja told All the Moms that she’s been taking singing lessons since the age of 3.

“She’s been singing forever. Basically before she could speak. Always singing,” he said, adding that she sings in the shower or while doing homework without even knowing it. “Sometimes we have to tell her to be quiet.”

So cute!

FrightFest Diary: 3D-Sound Smartphone Film Wows Crowd

FrightFest — the world-famous celebration of all things horror — hits London’s Leicester Square from August 23-27. And FANDOM’s resident gore-hounds Chris Tilly and Kim Taylor-Foster will be in attendance to cover all the horrible happenings.

That includes news, pictures, trailers and reviews of the likes of The Ranger, Climax, Tigers Are Not Afraid, Ravers, Bodied, Possum, Mega Time Squad, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich and much, much more. We’ll also be presenting the FANDOM screening of Upgrade on Saturday night, with genre king Leigh Whannell in attendance.

So bookmark this page as we’ll be posting everything here, with the most recent updates at the top. And wish us luck as we dive into what Guillermo Del Toro once called “the Woodstock of gore.”

Final Stop: Smartphone-Shot Film Made with 3D Sound Puts You Right In the Terrifying Action

Is there any film genre that depends more on pitch-perfect sound than horror? Consider the most iconic horror films and you’ll remember the chilling score, and sound effects. Think Psycho, think Texas Chainsaw Massacre, think The Exorcist. The list is endless. And now a horror short has been made that makes the most of binaural 3D sound capabilities. Screening at Frightfest, Final Stop is a project financed by headphone manufacturers Sennheiser and makes use of their sound equipment for a fully immersive sound experience. Watched on the big screen while wearing headphones, the soundscape created includes realistic sounds such as the buzz of a streetlight overhead, the engine and brakes of an approaching bus, a rustling newspaper in front and crackling twigs from behind – as well as other sounds to help ramp up the tension.

Directed by Roxanne Benjamin, the short film concerns a woman alone at night who attracts the attention of a hooded stalker – and features a twist ending you won’t see coming. It’s extremely effective — and is exciting for the future of cinema.

Jenn Wexler, director of the festival’s opening film, The Ranger (see below for our review), took part in a panel discussion following the screening, and said she’d never experienced anything quite like it.

“We’re in a room full of people and usually you hear the popcorn and the sucking but these headphones really made me feel like I was in my own space … and it was just me, as the only viewer, watching this movie,” she said. “So it’s a really cool blending of community [and] the solo viewing experience. I don’t know if I’ve ever quite felt like that when I’ve watched a movie before.”

Ravers Review

Think of the blood-drenched club scene at the start of Blade, and that gives you some idea of what to expect from Ravers. In very small part, at least. Ravers charts what happens at a squat party – aka illegal rave – when a batch of contaminated energy drinks turns revellers into murderous mutants. Becky, played by Vikings star Georgia Hirst, is a germophobic journalist trapped in the ensuing chaos attempting to get herself and her friends out alive. Species icon Natasha Henstridge appears in a small role, alongside I, Daniel Blake actor Dave Johns — somewhat bizarrely.

Though director Bernhard Pucher’s intentions were to make a “fun” action film, blending a light tone with the horror upsets the impact of the events. However, it was a good move to set it all to a pulsating techno soundtrack. Stick with the film for your rewards which come in the form of physical special effects. As the film progresses, the assembled ravers crave greater quantities of substances, and the mutations become increasingly gross with one charred party-goer particularly grotesque. A couple of eye-popping moments and a hallucinating Becky are highlights if you like to be grossed out.

PuppetMaster The Littlest Reich Review

‘Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich’ Review: The Toys Are Back In Town

Mega Time Squad Review

There’s a unique and very specific brand of humour that comes out of New Zealand. You see it in Flight of the Conchords and the films of Taika Waititi, and Mega Time Squad shares that sensibility, being a very weird and very funny film about cloning and time travel. Anton Tennet plays “bloody dynamic” John, a low-level gangster who — while endeavouring to steal from his boss – stumbles upon an ancient time travel device. Which he uses to get him out of the tight spots in which all-too-regularly finds himself. And results in increasing numbers of Johns interacting with each other the film progresses.

As funny as it is silly, Mega Time Squad features a scene-stealing turn from What We Do in the Shadows star Jonny Brugh, while Tim van Dammen’s script — which he also directed — takes the high-concept to some very silly places, making Mega Time Squad a blast from start to finish.

Summer of 84 Review

Amid an explosion of 1980s nostalgia-fests comes Summer of 84. But though it shares elements in common with ‘80s throwback series Stranger Things, it fails to create something that successfully captures a convincing retro feel blended with something that also feels fresh. Instead, the film feels derivative and self-aware, suffering from shoehorning in regular references to the decade of lace neon gloves and crimped hair. Add in a group of stereotyped central characters without the individuality to elevate them to the likes of the It or Stand By Me boys and you’ve got a film you want to like more than you’re able. That said, with a tone that see-saws between The Goonies, The ‘Burbs and German series Dark, you’re kept guessing which way it will go before it hits you with a denouement that’s both tense and genuinely alarming.

The Ranger Review

The Ranger kicked off the festival in kick-ass style. Combining slasher with survival horror, the film pits a bunch of dopey punks against a park ranger who proves to be a psychotic stickler for safety regulations. Chloe Levine plays Chelsea, a bad girl with a good heart, who – following serious trouble in the city — flees to her uncle’s cabin in the woods. But the local park ranger — who is somehow connected to Chloe’s past — doesn’t like having idiots on his land, making grandiose statements like “While visiting my mountain, I expect you to abide by the law. The law of mother nature.”

They don’t, predictably, and what follows is a series of gruesome kills, punctuated by some seriously dark humour. Which cause violent shifts in tone that make for a somewhat schizophrenic watch. But it’s directed with style and visual flair by Jenn Wexler — making her feature film debut — and anchored by a couple of grandstanding performances from Jeremy Holm as the deranged ranger in question, and Levine as his plucky pink-haired nemesis.

A Restaurant Crowd Jeered Lance Armstrong, So He Bought Everyone’s Meals

Lance Armstrong, whose doping scandal led to his downfall from the top of cycling, says he is working to earn forgiveness and has changed the way he reacts to criticism.

Speaking on Freakonomics Radio with host Stephen Dubner, Armstrong said he understands why people might not forgive him years after his doping came to light after years of denial. Now, he’s just trying to win people back.

In one story Armstrong shared, the disgraced cyclist said he was getting into an Uber in Denver in 2017 when a person sitting on a bar patio started yelling at him: “F— you! F— you!”

“He goes ‘F— you. F— you! F— you!” and he wouldn’t stop,”‘ Armstrong said on the show. “And the next thing you know, the entire patio is screaming ‘F— you, f— you, f—.’ I’ve never had that happen. I was like, ‘Oh.’ I was shaking.”

Ten years ago, Armstrong said, he would have “jumped across the railing and start throwing punches.” But this time, he placed a call to the restaurant manager. After explaining the encounter, he gave the manager his credit card number and asked him to buy meals and drinks for the customers on the patio.

“Tell them that I understand,” Armstrong said he told the manager.

Omarosa Says Hope Hicks’ White Lies For Trump Included the Size of His Inauguration Crowd

During her first late-night appearance since leaving Celebrity Big Brother, Omarosa Manigault Newman reflected on her one-year experience of being a White House aide during a wide-ranging interview.

The star, who left her position in January, even discussed the latest Trump staffer casualty: her former boss and third White House communications director Hope Hicks.

“You worked for her you know what the lies were?” Colbert inquired, referencing Hicks’ reported admission to a House panel that she’s told white lies for the president.

“I suspect the first one would be about crowd size but I don’t want to go into it,” Manigault Newman teased before sharing further detail on her comment. “I got to see the inauguration of Clinton, of Bush, of Obama and when we got to the Trump inauguration they said this is the largest crowd size. I said, ‘Man I’ve been to a lot of inaugurations, this wasn’t the biggest.’ I didn’t want to be the one to break it to him. I didn’t want to be that person.”

Following his Jan. 20, 2017, inauguration, Trump repetitively claimed more people attended his inauguration than Obama’s 2009 swearing-in and even demanded photographic proof.

During the 19-minute interview – only some of which aired on television, Manigault Newman also said that only time will tell whether the country will be all right under Trump.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” Manigault Newman said vaguely responding to the host’s inquiry about her “it’s not going to be okay” comment during CBB. “I think working for the White House was a little crazier.”

When asked if some of his presidential actions make her doubt him as the commander-in-chief, she expressed her loyalty to her longtime pal, who has fired her multiple times now.

“Look Donald Trump was my friend for 15 years,” Manigault Newman explained. “He was my friend and watching him in this position has caused me to be excited sometimes and sometimes be very, very concerned.”

Adding, “I think if you woke up and your best friend was president tomorrow you’d have that same range of emotions.”

Manigault Newman first found fame in 2004 as a contestant on Trump’s reality TV show The Apprentice, before he ultimately fired her. Then over a decade later, in 2017, she joined Trump’s administration as director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison and was one of the president’s most prominent African American supporters.

She also served as his director of African-American outreach during his presidential campaign.

As Wednesday’s appearance was her first TV interview since she made controversial comments on CBB, Manigault Newman clarified some of them, including her comparison of leaving the White House to getting “freed off the plantation.”

“The White House that I worked in at the Trump administration, it was troubling. And it was very difficult. My analogy of it being a plantation: an ecosystem of people who feel oppressed is pretty clear,” she told Colbert.

“When you aren’t allowed to do the job you were brought to do. To help be a change agent, to be a liaison for communities that need it, that’s where that oppression comes from,” Manigault Newman continued.

“And that’s what that analogy meant Stephen if they were an African-American woman. I was speaking for myself, I can’t speak for everyone in the White House. I was speaking for how I felt being the only African-American advisor to President Donald Trump,” she said.

WATCH: Celebrity Big Brother’s Omarosa Warns That Country Should Be Worried About Trump

Manigault Newman claims she resigned from her position at the White House and the Trump administration on Jan. 20. However, a day after Manigault Newman appeared on CBB, the White House revealed she had been fired.

“Omarosa was fired three times on the ‘Apprentice’ and this was the fourth time we let her go,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said earlier this month during a press briefing. “She had limited contact with the president while here. She has no contact now.”

Despite the statement, Manigault Newman still maintains it was her decision to leave.

“I love the dramatic. The way they described this the White House sounds more reality TV-ish,” Manigault Newman said. “It was less sexy than that. I committed to a year with this administration. We started January 20 of last year and this would’ve been one year. It’s simple as that.”

Adding, “I committed to doing one year. I think one year in the Trump White House is more than enough for me.”

Sam Smith surprises crowd with Latch performance at Camden Roundhouse

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith made a surprise appearance at the Annie Mac Presents: AMP Sounds Closing Party on Saturday night (24.02.18) to perform ‘Latch’ with Disclosure.
The 25-year-old pop star was one of two special guests at the charity bash, which was hosted by the BBC Radio 1 DJ, at north London’s Camden Roundhouse.
Mouths dropped as the ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ hitmaker casually took to the stage to sing the dance track, which he recorded with the electronic duo – comprised of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence – in 2013, a year before Sam became an international star with his debut record ‘In The Lonely Hour’.
Prior to Sam’s appearance, the likes of Stefflon Don, Mabel, Raye and Wretch 32 all performed and helped raise £30,000 for the Roundhouse charity – which supports young budding artists in achieving their dreams.
Another special guest was Years and Years frontman Olly Alexander, who did renditions of his band’s hit songs ‘King’ and ‘Desire’ with two backing singers.
However, it wasn’t as much of a surprise as Sam turning up, as the singer took to Twitter to tease his appearance at the sold out event hours before.
The evening also saw some of the best rising talent in the grime world, including ‘Addison Lee’ hitmaker Not3s – who also performed ‘My Lover’ and ‘Fine Line’ with Mabel – and ‘Know My Ting’ star Ghetts entertain.
The night was not without drama, as within minutes of Ghetts coming on stage, the building was evacuated with gig-goers not being told what was happening.
However, Annie took to twitter to announce the party was back on and explained it was simply a smoke alarm that had been set off – and the line-up resumed.
Joking that Ghetts’ was “too good” and shut the place down, Anne wrote: “The party is back on after a slight blip – basically @THEREALGHETTS was too good and we had to evacuate the building @Amp (sic)”

Someone’s Gotta Do It! Rowdy Crowd Takes Down a Confederate Monument in North Carolina [Video]

A crowd of North Carolina protesters took down a Confederate statue while protesting the wave of racist violence that took place over the weekend.

via NYDN:

Demonstrators in the former slave state attached a rope to Durham’s statue of an unidentified Confederate soldier Monday evening and pulled it down to the ground, where it was spat on and kicked.

“People can be mobilized and people are angry and when enough people are angry, we don’t have to look to politicians to sit around in air conditions and do nothing when we can do things ourselves,” protester Takiyah Thompson told WNCN.

Durham’s statue was positioned on top of a perch outside the city’s courthouse and dedicated in 1924, according to the station.

Durham police said it was aware of the toppling but noted that the courthouse is the jurisdiction of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. Those deputies reportedly recorded the stunt, the News & Observer reported.

White supremacists marched through the streets of that city after it recently decided to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Neo-Nazi James Fields is now charged with murder after allegedly running his car into a crowd of counter-protesters and killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

The killing and the death of two state troopers in a helicopter called to the city have sparked protests across the country, including one in Minneapolis Monday where a Nazi was burnt in effigy.

Municipalities across the South are also looking to get rid of Confederate symbols after the eruption of hate.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh said Monday that she has asked for an estimate on how much it will cost to remove the monuments, which may be put in Confederate cemeteries.

Jacksonville’s City Council president also said that she would like to do away with similar monuments in her corner of northern Florida.

A Durham County spokeswoman told WNCN that a recent North Carolina law prevents the removal of “historical monuments and memorials” so local action is difficult.

Brooklyn Rep. Yvette Clarke had asked the Army to change streets named after Lee and Thomas (Stonewall) Jackson at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, but was told earlier this month that the generals were “an inextricable part of our military history.”

Clarke said she will keep trying to change the streets, which she says are “deeply offensive” to Brooklyn residents and servicemembers at Fort Hamilton.

Before Charlottesville, many municipalities removed symbols of the slave-owning South after the 2015 murders of nine black churchgoers in Charleston, S.C.

Car Plowing Through Charlottesville Crowd Leaves 1 Dead, 19 Injured

The situation unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia took a dark turn in the wake of Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city. A car plowed into the throng of gatherers in the city, leaving one dead and 19 others injured.

CNN reports:

One person was killed and 19 were hurt when a speeding car slammed into a throng of counterprotesters in Charlottesville, where a “Unite the Right” rally of white nationalist and other right-wing groups had been scheduled take place, the city tweeted on its verified account.

The driver was later taken into custody, the city said in a news release. It did not name the person.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will — go home,” Mayor Mike Signer wrote on Twitter.

The city added that there were 15 other injuries associated with the scheduled rally.

Reports say the driver of the gray Dodge Challenger rammed one car from behind then reversed the vehicle down a packed street. Images have appeared of the carnage online and we must warn that some of those images are disturbing.

Adding to the overall intensity of situations on the ground in the city, a Virginia State Police helicopter crashed near the site of the protests, leaving two troopers dead.
