After social media called out the blatant hypocrisy over Americans throwing their support and wallets behind the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral, a spike in donations received for three historically Black churches affected by a sting of fires has dramatically increased.

The GoFundMe page which was first launched on April 10 by the Seventh District Baptist Association, has seen a total of over $ 1.3 million in contributions, nearing its $ 1.8 million goal.

“The host of this campaign is the Seventh District Baptist Association, a 149 year old non-profit religious organization,” the host organization wrote on the crowdfunding page. The association is made up of over 60 Baptist churches across Louisiana.

“We are working with the Governor of Louisiana, local leaders, elected officials, the impacted churches and their pastors, other faith organizations and the community to ensure 100% of all funds raised will be evenly distributed to the three churches affected.”

The number is a drastic change from the $ 150,000 in donations it received prior to the Notre Dame fire, and was mostly due to the efforts of Black and brown social media users who pushed for financial support. Their voices raised in unison made it obvious that there was a disconnect over the emotion displayed for Notre Dame’s Cathedral in relation to what happened on U.S. soil.

Prominent figures such as Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Valerie Jarrett also shared the link for the page and or made donations, prompting more people to join in the effort.

The funds will help to rebuild three historically black churches in St. Landry Parish which were burned down over the course of 10 days: St. Mary Baptist Church on March 26, Greater Union Baptist Church on April 2 and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 4. Officials have arrested Holden Matthews, 21, in connection with the fires. Matthews, a white man, is also the son of the deputy sheriff, and faces arson and hate crime charges in the case.

Lou Dobbs: ‘Political Decision’ to Rule Out Arson in Notre Dame Fire

Fox Business

Fox Business Network host Lou Dobbs suggested Tuesday evening that French officials made a “political decision” to quickly rule out arson as the cause of the fire that destroyed much of the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

While French authorities are currently treating the blaze as an accident and have ruled out—for the moment—arson and terrorism, baseless speculation and wild conspiracy theories have run rampant, especially on the right. Conservative host Glenn Beck, for instance, said: “If this was started by Islamists, I don’t think you’ll find out about it, because I think it would set the entire country on fire.”

Noting that French prosecutors are investigating the cause of the blaze, Dobbs said that “within just a matter of hours,” authorities had ruled out arson.

Devastating Notre Dame Cathedral Fire Rocks Fashion World

A catastrophic fire took hold of the Notre Dame Cathedral, one of Paris’ most iconic landmarks on Monday.
The blaze set off on Monday afternoon and continued to rage throughout the evening. Thousands of onlookers in the City of Light watched from the bridges and sidewalks as the building’s famed spire, which painted the Paris cityscape for more than 800 years, collapsed into the flames. No casualties have been reported and there has been no cause for the fire cited at press time. The 14th-century French Gothic building, with its pointed arches, intimidating gargoyles and rose windows was immortalized in film and literature, most notably in Victor Hugo’s classic novel “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Designers and dozens of members of the fashion industry have taken to their social media feeds in tribute to the French landmark. See their posts here:

Dame Joan Collins is ‘very shaken’ but unhurt after a fire breaks out in her apartment

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Joan Collins is “very shaken” after a fire broke out in her apartment.
The ‘Dynasty’ star and her husband Percy Gibson are both “unhurt” after the blaze took a hold of the guest suite at their London home on Saturday (13.04.19).
A representative for the actress told People magazine: “The fire broke out yesterday. They were both in the apartment. Joan smelt some smoke and Percy went out to investigate. They discovered that the guest suite was on fire. Percy had two of those fire extinguishers in the apartment so he rushed in to start putting the fire out and Joan called for the fire brigade to come.
“Percy had kind of controlled most of the fire. They escaped the fire unhurt, but obviously shaken up and distressed from the whole thing. Percy really saved the day. He was the one who put the fire out and took control until the fire brigade arrived. The couple are doing better today [and will be going back] to see exactly what damage has been done and how they can put everything back together again.”
And taking to social media, Joan has thanked the fire brigade for putting out the blaze and the ambulance crew who “comforted” her.
She wrote on Twitter: “THANK U from the bottom of my [heart] to the marvelous @LondonFire who attended to the terrifying fire yesterday in our flat. #threealarmfire My hero Percy had already doused the flames consuming the entire wall with handheld extinguisher (#donttakethisrisk). #gratitude #firefighters … And thanks also to the @NHSEnglandLDN #nhs #emt #Ambulance crew who took care of our smoke inhalation and comforted me. And the wonderful @metpoliceuk who kept the street closed and everyone safe. #gratitude (sic)”

Fox News Anchors Shut Down Conspiracy Theories About Notre Dame Fire

During two separate occasions on Monday afternoon, Fox News anchors Shepard Smith and Neil Cavuto had to dump out of interviews after their guests wildly speculated and parroted conspiracy theories that the blaze that suddenly destroyed much of the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was an intentionally malicious act.

While anchoring breaking-news coverage of the fire, Smith interviewed witness Philippe Karsenty, the deputy mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine and a controversial right-wing media figure. Early in the call, Karsenty suggested that the Notre Dame blaze—which is currently being investigated as an accident—was a terrorist attack.

“It’s like a 9/11, a French 9/11,” Karsenty declared. “It’s a big shock. This church was there for more than 850 years. You need to know that for the past years, we’ve had churches desecrated each and every week all over France. Of course, you will hear the story of the politically—the political correctness, which will tell you it’s probably an accident.”
