BBC slam Netflix for ‘ripping off Planet Earth and stealing Sir David Attenborough’

THE BBC have slammed Netflix for ‘ripping off Planet Earth and stealing Sir David Attenborough’, it has been reported.

Bosses at the Beeb are unhappy with Netflix series Our Planet, which is narrated by the same broadcaster as the channel’s award-winning nature programmes.

Attenborough, 92, will voice all eight episodes of Our Planet, filmed over four years with a 600-strong crew.

Show insiders have insisted that the programme is not a copy of the BBC’s annual Natural History Unit productions – such as Planet Earth.

The Netflix series has been made by NHU chief Alastair Fothergill, who has a long-standing relationship with Sir David.

A source told The Mirror: “They’ve nicked the filming techniques, the stories, even the title from us, not to mention the presenter.

The BBC are said to be angry that Netflix have ‘ripped off Planet Earth’
BBC

“And it’s been made by an ex-BBC producer who still makes natural history programmes for the BBC. There is nothing in any way original about this series.

“The only difference is they used 600 crew for work we’d have done with around 60.

“Sir David will always be part of the BBC. This is not the end of the relationship with him. We’ve just lent him to Netflix.”

Attenborough’s new BBC show Dynasties starts tomorrow

Our Planet is due to be released to Netflix subscribers in April next year.

Although Attenborough has worked with other broadcasters in the past, including Sky, the shows have always been different to his work with the BBC.

Meanwhile, the star’s latest BBC series, Dynasties, is due to launch tomorrow night.

He will also return to the Beeb next year with Seven Worlds – an exploration of the different continents.

As if that wasn’t enough, 2020 will see Fothergill and Attenborough work together for the BBC with the production of Perfect Planet.

Frozen Planet II is also due in 2021.

David Attenborough’s latest nature show has a brilliantly original twist

TwitterFacebook

An iguana desperately fleeing a horde of snakes. A bird struggling to find love. A giraffe fending off a lion in a heroic bid for freedom.

When it comes to nature documentaries, it tends to be the individual stories that we remember best. It happened again and again in Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II — an event in the life of one specific creature, combined with the sweetly soothing sound of David Attenborough’s narration, took the internet by storm.

Well, it looks like there’s going to be more where that came from. In the latest BBC David Attenborough documentary series Dynasties, there will be an even greater focus placed on individual stories. Read more…

David Mallett Opens New York Salon at The Webster

David Mallett is bringing his signature brand of Parisian-chic hairdressing to New York.
Mallett, an Australian native whose taxidermy-filled eponymous salon in the Second Arrondissement is something of a fashion insider institution in Paris, is set to open a third location — his first in the U.S. and first outside Paris — on the top floor of Laure Hériard Dubreuil’s The Webster in SoHo, on Oct. 16.
The 1,600-square-foot space will operate as a full-service, eight-chair salon, with color, cutting, styling and treatment services overseen by Mallett himself and staffed by longtime employees of his Paris salons, including two hairdressers, two colorists and a client director. Mallett, who opened his second outpost at The Ritz Paris in 2016, will split his time between New York and Paris going forward.
The salon on the fifth floor of The Webster was designed by French architect Charles Zana to replicate the style of Mallett’s Paris salons, which are inspired by French-style craftsmanship. Lamps, furniture and other decor were custom-made for The Webster by François Pouenat, a fifth-generation French artisan metalworker. In a nod to his native Australia, Mallett partnered with Australia-based Dinosaur Designs’ Louise Olsen on accent pieces. Mallett purposefully to designed the New York space

The new David Attenborough show looks super intense and we’re so here for it

It’s good to have you back, Sir David.

new david attenborough show
BBC NHU/Theo Webb

Happy World Animal Day, everyone! We’re kicking it off with some exciting animal-related news as Sir David Attenborough is back with yet another nature documentary series, which will fill the void that Planet Earth and Blue Planet left when they ended. He’ll be bringing a new show to the BBC called Dynasties and the exciting trailer dropped earlier today, proving that it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.

The nature documentary is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, as it’s going to hone in on just five species of animal: emperor penguins, tigers, lions and more. According to the BBC,every episode will focus on an individual endangered animal and follow their struggle for survival in the wild. The series, which took four years to film and create, looks wasymore like a tense reality TV drama centred around an animal rather than a nature documentary. We’re here for it.

If you’re a diehard Planet Earth II fan, the team behind it are the same one responsible for Dynasties — so you know it’s going to be good.

And of course, Sir David Attenborough will be lending his iconic voice to the show and seems to have travelled the world for the show, which isn’t bad going for a man who’s in his nineties now.

There’s no word yet on when the new show is set to drop, however the trailer definitely has us hungry for more.

TBH if the entire show was just an hour of that baby penguin shuffling through the snow, we’d probably be on board.
