A few months ago Styles P came through with a tough as leather project in G-Host and today one third of The LOX comes through with a video for one of the album’s standout tracks.

In his visuals to “Morning Mourning” Style PeNiro narrates the story of an attempted murder gone wrong when an innocent child gets caught in the middle. An all too familiar situation when it comes to gun violence in the US.

Back on the west coast E-40 keeps the Bay a buzzing with his OG flow and exclusive lingo in his clip to the Yhung T.O. assisted clip to “These Days.”

Two-story Expansion in Just Two Days

If you’re not familiar with the idea of modular additions, this involves a process where the walls and roofing materials are pre-built off-site and then installed on-site in a very short period of time.

Modular Home Additions, a Toronto-based company that specializes in modular additions, was able to transform this home from a bungalow to a two-story while only being on-site for two days! The second story is completely framed, protected and ready for windows, shingles and interior and exterior finishes.

Follow The Process: DAY 1

First Photo: 9:00 am, Demolition of existing roof begins. Second Photo: 2:00 pm, Existing roof has been removed and protection for the lower floor has been installed.

Follow The Process: DAY 2

9:00 am, Pre-built walls are lifted into place and installed.

First Photo: 10:00 am, Roof trusses are installed. Second Photo: 2:00 pm, Second floor is completed, framed and ready for finishing.

There are a number of benefits to adding onto your home in this manner.

STAY AT HOME On the first day on-site, the existing roof is completely demolished and the Modular Home Additions team installs protection to keep the lower floor safe. This means you are able to stay in your home throughout the process, a benefit that can greatly reduce the stress and eliminate some of the living costs that come with traditional additions!

MINIMAL MESS Garbage created from the removal of the existing roof is cleaned up the same day and because the walls and roof are pre-built off-site at the Modular Home Additions factory, you don’t have the normal mess of construction or headache of finding space for construction materials. The pieces arrive and are installed all on the same day.

HAPPY NEIGHBORS There is nothing worse than waking up one morning to discover that your neighbors have embarked on a month long, noisy renovation process that is going to leave the neighborhood a mess and you sleep deprived. Not only does this process result in much less mess, but neighbors appreciate that the disruption to their everyday lives will be minimal as well! – Photos Provided by Modular Home Additions, www.modular.ca

How to legally stay in Europe for more than 90 days

If you want to travel to Europe, you’ll need to get yourself a visa to make sure you’re legally allowed to roam around, there is just one problem though. They only last for 90 days so if you want to visit for longer, you’ll have to leave and come back, right? There are ways you can stay in Europe for more than 90 days, without breaking the law. Here’s how!

The rule doesn’t apply to all of Europe

There is one simple way of navigating around the 90-day rule, go to somewhere in Europe where the rule doesn’t apply. The 90-day visa applies only to the region in Europe known as the Schengen Area. This covers many countries, mostly those members of the European Union. There are several places in eastern Europe that do the visa does not apply to, countries such as Belarus, Croatia, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine.

Then there are a few other countries such as Cyprus and Albania where it does not apply, and crucially the UK and Ireland do not fall into the Schengen Area. You can hop between these countries following your visit to make sure your trip lasts longer than just three months

Job-seekers visa

If you apply for a job seekers visa, you will be given 6 months grace to try and find yourself a job while in Europe. You’ll need to hold a university degree, but this will allow you to live in Europe for up to six months while searching for a job. You’ll need to apply for this visa in advance of entering the region though, so make sure if you’re planning on going for longer, or even staying forever, that you apply well in advance.

Working holiday visa

If you want to travel to Europe to soak up some of the cultures and are planning on an extended stay, you’ll probably need to pick up some work to make sure you can continue to fund important things like food and shelter. You can apply for a working holiday visa which will allow you to stay but will have to prove that you have enough savings to sustain yourself should you fail to get a job. You’ll need to have around $ 5,000 in the bank to prove that you are serious about things. Several countries, such as Italy, Sweden, or France offer long-term visas that allow you to stay there for an extended period of time as long as you have a job to go to when you get there.

Infinite loop

The Schengen Area requires you to leave after 90 days and will take 180 days to reset, allowing you to renew a new 90-day visa. During this time you can stay in the UK for 90 days then head to the Balkan region for another 90 then you’ll be able to re-enter the Schengen Area. You can continue to do this for as long as you want or can afford.

If you really want to visit Europe for more than 90 days without breaking the law there are a few things you can do to make sure you are there legally. There are more places in Europe than just the Schengen Area, so you can explore those regions whole you are doing your 180-day visa refresh. With this knowledge, you can hang out in Europe as long as your budget will allow you, as long as you don’t mind moving around occasionally.

Final Days of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends at midnight on Monday August 5, so make sure you’ve had a peek if you want to participate before prices go back up on Aug 6. It’s a good way to see items worn across a range of body types and age groups, as well as get detailed input about sizing and quality.

I usually do well at the NAS and this year was no exception. I bought ten items across a range of wardrobe items and price points. I put the lion’s share of my budget into footwear, threw in a wild card, prioritized the pretty, was careful with black, added earthy browns, and found another two smashing midi dresses with waist definition and sleeves. I’m so enamoured with the 1901 midi Shirtdress in navy, that I plan to duplicate it in either red or a light blue stripe.

Fundraiser to Reunite Migrant Parents with Their Children Raises Over $6 Million in 4 Days

A Facebook fundraising campaign aiming to reunite parents and children who have been sent to separate detention centers went viral and broke social media records after it raised over $ 6 million in just four days.

Charlotte and Dave Willner were moved when they saw a photo of a 2-year-old Honduran girl crying as her mother was searched by a U.S. Border Patrol agent, The New York Times reported. That was all they needed to begin a grassroots campaign on Saturday to raise $ 1,500 to do what they could to try to reunite these families on Saturday.

They called it, “Reunite an immigrant parent with their child,” and the money is intended to go toward the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services (RAICES), a nonprofit organization in Texas that gives immigrant and refugee families legal representation in the state.

The couple’s expectations were exceeded when more than 130,000 people donated over $ 5 million in three days, the Times reports. At the time of publication, the page has now raised over $ 6 million.

Johnathan Ryan, the executive director of the nonprofit, expressed his amazement to the newspaper calling it a “great responsibility.”

“We’ve had moments of ecstasy and there have been a lot of tears in response to this outpouring of support,” Ryan said. “But those moments of joy are curtailed by a realization of great responsibility.”

According to the fundraiser’s Facebook page, the money is intended to pay the bond of parents in detention centers so they can be reunited with their children while they await their court dates.

The funds will also go toward ensuring all children detained in Texas have legal representation. The page says bond minimums are set at $ 1,500 and can very anywhere between $ 5,000 and $ 10,000.

According to the Times, RAICES currently has about 50 lawyers on staff. A Facebook spokeswoman told the newspaper the Willners’ page has become the largest single fundraiser in the social media site’s history.

While the $ 6 million has not yet reached RAICES, Ryan told the Times the nonprofit had already sent lawyers to aid detained immigrants and their children.

“These people need lawyers. Beyond the punditry and politics, each person suffering from this policy has a huge legal case to begin to prepare for,” he said.

On Monday, ProPublica released an audio recording of a man reported to be U.S. Border Patrol agent joking about immigrant children’s crying while at a detention facility after they had been separated from their parents.

“Well, we have an orchestra here, right? What we’re missing is a conductor,” he said as a boy is heard crying loudly for his father.

ProPublica reported the person who made the recording asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation. PEOPLE was not able to independently verify the recording.

Later in the recording, a little girl from El Salvador is heard pleading with the agents and consular representatives present to call her aunt, explaining she had memorized the phone number.

“Can I go with my aunt at least? I want my aunt to come to take me to her house. I have her number,” she is heard saying in Spanish.

She continued insisting the representatives call her aunt as two of them discussed feeding the children while a little boy in the background continued to cry for his father, yelling, “Papi! Papi!”

Since President Donald Trump’s administration rolled out its “zero tolerance” immigration policy — which prosecutes undocumented immigrants who cross the border between the U.S. and Mexico — more than 2,300 children have been separated from their parents since April, according to the ProPublica.

Arizona Sen. John McCain tweeted against the police on Monday, writing, “The administration’s current family separation policy is an affront to the decency of the American people, and contrary to principles and values upon which our nation was founded.”

“The administration has the power to rescind this policy. It should do so now,” he added.

I’m leaving my baby for 3 whole days and I’m a nervous wreck

by

Jamie Reed

posted in Parenting

Flying 1,300 miles away this week from my tiny baby boy seems like the worst idea ever right now. But let me back up for a minute:

When I first made plans to attend this particular work conference I’m headed to, I was 8 weeks pregnant. (32 weeks away from knowing what I was in for.) At the time, I knew I’d be leaving a 4-month-old baby behind, but it didn’t seem like that big of a deal. Three nights away. Three whole nights of uninterrupted sleep. Days of adult conversation and networking lunches. Evening parties and room service. I can handle that!

And now all I can think of is whether I can actually, physically get on a plane in two days.

mom holding sleeping baby

I haven’t always been this way. When my birthday rolled around, 3 weeks postpartum, my husband was insistent we get out of the house to celebrate. He arranged childcare with my mom, made plans with some friends, and attempted to convince me to leave our brand-new baby home for the late afternoon and evening.

I didn’t need any convincing. I was ready to get out of the house, and, while I was a little nervous about leaving the baby, I was more concerned that I wasn’t all that concerned about it.

Was it OK to want to go to dinner and have a “normal” night with friends when you just had a baby? I felt a little guilty about my lack of worry that night, but I shouldn’t have.

The “leaving your baby” anxiety set in over the next few weeks, and now it seems like gets harder to leave him each time. I get knots in my stomach just meeting my mother-in-law to give her the baby for a few hours, knowing he’ll be an hour drive away from me should anything happen. When I drop the baby off with my mom (who lives approximately two miles away) I still insist she send me photo updates so I know my son is happy and healthy.

sleeping baby

Of course he’d have to be extra-angelic in the days before I leave. That helps a lot, kid.

There’s a part of me that’s excited for a few days away. A chance to get some rest, to spend some time focusing on myself and my work, and to know that my husband will get some extra bonding time. Then there’s part of me that pictures every possible scenario in which the baby gets sick, or hurt, and I’m over a THOUSAND miles away from him.

My head knows my son will be fine without me. He’s got two grandmas who are more than willing to pitch in so odds are he won’t miss me in the slightest. I, on the other hand, will probably be tossing and turning all three nights, hearing phantom cries and reaching into non-existent bassinets.

This isn’t the first time I’ve left my baby overnight, but the three-minute drive to my parent’s house sure sounds much more manageable for this mama’s heart.

Maybe once I get on the plane my fears will melt away and I’ll feel peace. Maybe I’ll feel confident and focused in my non-mom role for a few days. Or maybe I’ll be the lady showing baby pictures to strangers she meets in the elevator. Or the one who asks her husband to leave his phone by the video monitor overnight so I can Facetime just to watch my son sleep. (That’s probably a little extreme, right?)

baby staring out window

While the odds are slim (to none) that my baby will spend three days staring out the window looking for his mom, it’s heartbreaking just the same!

Right now, my suitcase is sitting in the middle of the living room floor, completely untouched. Taunting me like it knows it’s going right back in the closet without even being opened. I’m going through the motions of preparing to leave – cleaning, stocking up on groceries and diapers, writing lists of instructions for grandmas to follow, but there’s a big part of me that just wants to call the whole thing off.

suitcase

And yes, vacuuming that rug is on my to-do list.

I know I’d regret it if I didn’t go. I’d be missing out on something that benefits my career, plus, having a few conversations with people that aren’t about diapers or formula might be nice. This is the separation anxiety mothers of sweet, perfect, tiny babies get. And one of these days I’ll have a toddler and will probably be booking conferences left and right, just looking for a few hours to myself.

I’m 99 percent sure I’m getting on that plane. And I’m 100 percent sure I’ll cry at least three times before I do. And a few times in the air, so be warned, seatmates. Just pass me a tissue and tell me everything will be OK. I’ll repay your kindness by showing you 3,000 photos of the cutest baby on earth.

Was it hard for you to leave your baby for the first time?

Subtract 266 days from your birthday. Notice anything in particular?

by

Sara McGinnis

posted in Life

A little bit of math might just reveal a bit more about your parents than you care to know. For example, one person recently subtracted 266 days (the average length of human gestation) from their birthday and landed on April 15. Tax day. Their father is an accountant.

Sounds like somebody’s parents were celebrating putting another year in the books with a little baby-making!

Now it’s your turn. If you’re a whiz just compute 266 days from your birthdate. If, like me, you need a little help figuring it out, click here, change the date to your birthday and look for your result.

The comments pouring in from Reddit users who checked on their own date of conception are hilarious (and naturally a bit on the inappropriate side…

Mine was an AT&T service outages. My dad works for AT&T. WTF.

Apparently turkey wasn’t the only thing that was getting stuffed on my day.

I was a Thanksgiving conception too. The Packers also beat the Lions that day (my family is from Wisconsin). Looks like conditions were perfect for baby making.

Parents anniversary, go figure.

February 22nd… That’s my mother’s birthday.

30 December 1982, SEVERAL f–ing months before my parents married. I’m 28…Why haven’t I ever done that math. Back later, phone calls to be made.

November 8th. Looks like my parents liked to rock the vote.

December 23ish… that was totally Christmas sex, wasn’t it?

Super awkward, but then again we all have to thank our parents for having sex at least once, right?

Subtracting from my birthday turned up a conception date in early August of 1980 that I can’t correlate with anything in particular. For my kids it’s a little more interesting (and cringeworthy).

The math confirms we conceived our second son exactly three weeks before our firstborn’s first birthday. I can still remember how exhausted I was at his party. Not super embarrassing, but dang. We sure didn’t wait long to go for number two!

Here’s hoping our firstborn never bothers to do the math though, because he may never think of New Year’s Eve the same way again…which is also my husband’s birthday. Maybe some things are best left unknown.

Notice anything about your or your kids’ dates of conception?

Naked and Afraid Survivalist Goes Into a Food Coma After Starving for 12 Days

For anyone who has watched even five minutes of Naked and Afraid, the fact that competitors will face extreme hunger is no surprise. And, in an upcoming episode, one survivalist deals with just that.

On Sunday’s new episode, Gary Golding gets lucky. While hunting in Jalapao, Brazil, he finds a bounty of root vegetables on Day 12.

As he collects them in his bag, he snacks on them, noting how sweet they taste, and likening the feast to “Thanksgiving.” Soon, however, he pays the price.

As the camera rolls, Golding loses his train of thought, and then collapses into the dirt, falling into a deep sleep.

The announcer explains that the sudden release of sugar into his body has triggered a release of serotonin, which has caused his body to shut down.

It’s yet another reminder that Naked and Afraid is not for the faint of heart.

In most locations, there is very little food — and even when resources are available, it takes a lot of effort to find sustenance. Contestants lose anywhere from 10 to 30 pounds during the 21-day adventure.

Past survivalists have dealt with horrible weather and flesh-eating bacteria, while one contestant was even stung by a yellowjacket in the most unfortunate of areas.

Naked and Afraid airs Sunday at 10 p.m. EST on Discovery Channel.

Kate Hudson DOESN’T own the love fern from ‘How To Loose A Guy In 10 Days’ any more…

…and many other lessons our Fashion and Celebrity Director, Josh Newis-Smith learnt from the ultimate girl crush – AND we do not use that term lightly!

Kate Hudson is the ultimate girl’s girl, or anyone’s girl for that matter. We kick start our interview by fan girling about Alicia Vikander, namely because I am dressed in a look inspired by the Oscar winner we christened, cowboy waiter, “god, she’s just so beautiful isn’t she,” Kate exclaims.

Reclining in the Covent Garden Hotel, just like her floor length red stripped Stella McCartney dress, Kate is a like a breath of fresh spring sunshine. With her blonde locks cut into the perfect pixie Kate is engaging as she is warm – the kinda gal you want to take to Soho immediately, do twenty shots with and talk to about EVERYTHING until the end of time.

Like many people who learnt much about love from early noughties rom-coms, my obsession started long before this rendezvous whilst watching her alongside Matthew McConaughey in How To Loose A Guy In 10 Days. It was also the movie where I realized I was 110 percent a certified homosexual, given Mr. M’s banging bod – just in case you needed or wanted to know.

The Your So Vein scene will go down in history as will THAT golden bias cut dress, but the Love Fern is no longer, “I definitely don’t still own the Love Fern,” Hudson woefully reminisces. We are here to help with your mourning process dear readers and can point you in the direction of some suitable support groups!

It isn’t all lolz a minute creating such iconic movies though, “It was so fun filming that movie – but all comedies are fun! Actually, funnily enough because they are so fun to watch people don’t realize how challenging they are to make. Imagine doing those same scenes over and over again whilst trying to maintain spontaneity and timing. It’s actually very draining because at the end of a twelve hour day you are exhausted and mentally drained.”

Just like a jolly good work out session then? “Yes! When I am doing dramatic work I feel like I have had the greatest therapy session of my life. I feel elated, I want to go out – I’ve been crying all day and I have got something off my chest.”

Hudson has long been one seriously over active actress and sits before me as quite the super hyphenate having set up her athelesiure wear line, Fabletics in 2013. But it’s still the exercise under the watchful eye of training supremos, Nicole Winhoffer that teaches her the most about herself, “working out has really taught me that I get the best results when I am not trying so hard. When I am too obsessive about reaching a certain goal I actually hold on to more emotions, more so than when I enjoy myself and let go.”

But come on hun, surely there are times you really can’t be assed to drag yourself out of bed and into that gym? “You know what my motivational motivational mantra varies from day to day,” Kate shares. “Some days nothing – there is no motivation needed. Now I have my company its an all encompassing motivator as I am surrounded by Fabletics all the time. Everywhere I go in my house is a Fablectics bag or a legging – so that’s the greatest motivator of all.”

She can be quite the Mrs. Motivator – just much better dressed than the Mr. Motivator counterpart – when it comes to her pals, confirming the suggestion with a trademark laugh, “friends are my favourite motivators though! You have to have a great group of girls around you – it just makes it much more fun. But I do exercise just for me, having a discipline makes me feel so good.” I take a moment to pause, imagine if Kate works out with her mother, Goldie Hawn! But the image is just too much sass for one to cope with, so I move on mentally.

Setting up a business in the heavily saturated sportswear market must present itself with serious challenges. However with a series of vibrant printed leggings and soft tonal two pieces that whilst being feminine, don’t sacrifice on the fierceness, Kate is going from strength to strength. The fashion equivalent of going up a dumb bell weight or too, if you will!

Embodying that much lauded term, ‘girl boss’ has itself has been quite the challenge for Kate too, “the hardest thing for women and the most difficult hurdle for women to jump over is confidence. You have to stop asking permission – you need to have the confidence to just go for it. It can be very challenging for women to do but once you get over that you realize that it was not that hard in the first place.”

Putting herself at the forefront of the conversation about her success has been equally challenging, “Women by nature don’t feel like we can own our success like men do. If someone says, ‘wow you are doing so well,’ you act embarrassed instead of saying, ‘yeah man, it’s been awesome. I am super proud about it and we are killing it!’”

The cultural shift in the supreme power of the female voice is equally having an effect on Hudson too, “society has placed roles for us for so long and it’s seen as ‘natural’ for women to be placed in more submissive or suppressed positions. Now there is a change in that by us talking bout that and actively changing the vocabulary we use to talk about ourselves after hundred of years of programming. We should no longer be apologetic and it’s ok for you to be proud of being your own boss and it’s ok to also say no too. It’s a new language that we are engraining into ourselves.” Kate is literally finger clicking good – or everything she says should come with a hair flick.

Her tips therefore for any budding businesswoman? Well that’s simple, “don’t be afraid to speak your mind, don’t worry about people liking you but be kind and listen, be curious and if you really believe in something you have to go with your gut.”

Speaking of speaking your mind, I can’t help but ask Kate – given her certified girl crush and fitness goals status – how the hell one should go about flirting up a storm on the tread mill with your long sought after gym crush?

“Well firstly I wouldn’t ever wear make-up to the gym,” Kate shares before leaning in with a mischievous look rippling across her Hollywood features. Pursing her lips, she continues, “Firstly you wait for them to have the guts to approach you – that is the kind of man you want. There are little things you can do to give him some singles, like simply look at him to initiate it if you need to!”

Easier said than done though when you are Kate Hudson right? “I am not a big fan of the chase – for me I like guys who have guts. Don’t waste your time, just go up to him and say, ‘you are really handsome, do you want to go out?’ He might say, ‘not at all,’ or he might say, ‘yeah!’ I am all for putting it out there and being yourself.”

Being true to oneself might just be the secret to Hudson’s Hollywood come business mogul success, then? “Well the truth is when you are in a relationship with anyone or even yourself that is the real deal – it’s the only way it’s going to work if you are truly yourself.” Amen, sister!

Kate Hudson is the co-founder of Fabletics.

8 Cool Outfit Ideas for Rainy Days

True story: I moved back to the East Coast from Los Angeles a couple of years ago, and for my first month here, it rained almost every day. Coming from a place where it typically rains once in a blue moon, I was thoroughly unprepared. Before the bulk of my wardrobe arrived, I was armed with a denim jacket and the closest thing I had to rain shoes (these Everlane loafers…), I felt like a fool surrounded by prepared east-coasters in goulashes and anoraks. So, it got me thinking about how I can pre-plan for rainy days in the future—while still looking cute (naturally). Fittingly, I took to the internet and researched the rainy-day style of celebrities while out and about when the forecast is less-than-stellar. The results of my research? A crop of fresh outfit ideas for the inevitable string of rainy days to come.

Below, see what stars wear to look cool on rainy days, and to shop some of our favorite functional rainy-day pieces!

Fun days you need to mark in your calendar ASAP

How amazing would it be to have an entire day dedicated to celebrating the less official parts of life that are way too underrated? Apart from the usual holidays that are marked in our calendar, whether it’s a digital one or an actual calendar where you can write things in, there are hundreds of days, 365 to be exact, that you semi-official to be considered a holiday. Some are more fun than others, some are dedicated for important causes and others are simply hilarious.

We all go through our days, weeks and months and just living life as it is, grabbing what it has to offer and rarely do we ever pause and think about how we can change certain patterns or behaviors, until something big happens that makes us want to change something in our life. Maybe it has to do with the routine of things, or maybe it has to do with lack of time, but maybe, just maybe, if we dedicated a part of the day, even a small part to something that is way out of our way, maybe then we could find some peace. Now, these national or international holidays are not meant to be a heavy issue, they are just there, in our opinion, to mark something out of the ordinary, to pause and act out of the daily box, to celebrate life as it should be, really.

We have selected 7 days that we believe are worth celebrating, for all kinds of reasons, and so when you look back at the end of the year and reflect on the things you should have or shouldn’t have done, you won’t say ‘darn, I wish I would have dedicated an hour of my day to celebrate the existence of Lasagna in my life’.

January 17th – Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day

We all know that New Year’s resolutions are prone to not being realized at the end of the year, or at that time that you set them for. It’s more about making yourself feel better at a point in your life that you might be more emotional, motivated and very hopeful for the new things coming your way. If you accomplish even 20% of what you expected of yourself, then you should be very proud. Therefore, we think that having one day to throwing away your New Year’s resolutions and giving yourself a break, might be exactly what you need.

February 9th – Pizza Day

Do we really need to go into details as to why this is probably the most awesome day of the year for all you pizza lovers out there. Imagine there was actually a day that was dedicated to that cheesy slice?! Well, there is and it can’t be any more perfect. It’s time for you to get really creative with your choice of toppings, and whether you like to be in the kitchen and show off your master chef skills, or whether you like your pizza delivered straight to your door step, either way, it’s your day to let all those midnight pizza craves rest.

April 27th – Tell a Story Day

We’re busy all the time with telling stories, mostly with our phones. It can be an Instagram story, a message or a Facebook post, but how often do we really sit down with our friends, family or colleagues and tell them face-to-face stories. This day is usually celebrated in Scotland, the U.K and the U.S, and its purpose it to celebrate the idea of oral storytelling. It can be in the form of book reading, tale telling, ghost story telling or any sort of story you feel like sharing with your community.

May 27th – Cellophane Tape Day

You may not realize it, but cellophane tape has changed life as we know it. How would we wrap a gift or our children’s school books if it wasn’t for cellophane tape? this tiny and sticky treasure really seals the deal and it has been helpful in so many ways that it has to have its own day. By the way, for all you DIY people who love to unleash their inner Martha Stewart from time to time, there is a trendier take on the traditional scotch tape and it’s called washi tape.

June 18th – International Picnic Day

Life’s no picnic, but you can certainly dedicate one day for having a picnic outside. It will give you a chance to do something else in the outdoors and feel the air, especially when you are used to sitting inside a cold office all day long. It’s also a good time to be creative with your culinary choices and. A picnic is usually associated with something fun and some sort of a celebration, so why not celebrate it at least once a year.

July 16th – Guinea Pig Appreciation Day

These fuzzy little creatures are way underrated. Guinea pigs have actually been domesticated thousand of years ago in South America and they serve as a small but a very meaningful companion to many children and their households. Just look at these soft bodies, adorable ears and kind eyes, who wouldn’t want to cuddle with that? It’s time to spread the love and show these little animals just how much they mean to us.

August 10th – S’mores Day

Do we need to say s’more? is there any better trio combo in the world than graham crackers, toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate? we didn’t think so. This amazing dessert can be both be made at home and outside when camping. It’s the perfect treat to bring people closer together. Did you know that the first recipe for S’more can be found inside the recipe book that was published by in the 20’s by the Campfire Marshmallows company?

October 2nd – Name Your Car Day

If you haven’t done it already, then October 2nd is the day for you to do so. If people name their boats or their private planes, why can’t others name their vehicles? Think about it, if you own a car and you use it on a daily basis, it’s pretty much the space where you could potentially spend a lot of time in, especially in traffic. This machine has been so good to you in so many ways, it literally changed your life and helped you lead a better one, so if you don’t already have a good name, you have a few months to choose a proper one.

Tori Spelling & Dean McDermott Treat Their Kids to a Family Dinner Days After ‘Disturbance’ Call

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott spent time as a family with their children, days after police were called to their home.

The couple took their five children – Stella, 9, and Hattie, 6, and sons Liam, 10, Finn, 5, and baby Beau, who turned 1 last week – out to dinner at the Black Bear Diner in Encino, California. Despite the recent incident, the group looked happy while arriving at the eatery.

McDermott, 51, was seen in Los Angeles on Thursday leaving a lawyer’s office. A source told PEOPLE that Spelling, 44, took their children to her mother Candy’s home that day.

The actor called the police to check up on his wife after she left their house on Wednesday, according to TMZ. Police reportedly surrounded the building in Thousand Oaks, California, while Spelling was inside. TMZ also had a video of McDermott standing outside the office, holding Beau.

The site reported that deputies located the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum at the doctor’s office, spoke to her and determined she and their kids were okay. Because no crime had been committed, no further action was taken.

Police and Spelling did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.

A week earlier, police were called to their home over a “disturbance.” Los Angeles Police Department officer Rosario Herrera told PEOPLE authorities received a “call for service” at 7:17 a.m. on March 1, to Spelling’s Woodland Hills address. Officer Drake Madison said the situation ended up being a “domestic incident” and that “no crime” was committed. He could not confirm who placed the call.

According to the audio dispatch call obtained by The Blast, the issue involved a “female” with a possible “mental illness.” TMZ also reported Spelling called the police the night before because she thought someone was breaking into her house, but it turned out to be McDermott coming home.

A source recently told PEOPLE that Spelling is “in a tough place” and “can get very stressed,” noting that it isn’t easy for her to juggle five young kids at home.

“The last year has been really tough on Tori,” said another insider. “She has a ton of pressure and stress, with the kids, work and her marriage. She internalizes a lot of her anxiety and she knows it’s not healthy for her. Of course, she’s going to get to a breaking point eventually.”

“Tori and Dean have their ups and downs,” added the insider. “But they love each other and family is most important to both of them.”

You rarely hear about those in-between days when the waves are barely a foot tall and it’s a struggle catching anything on your 9′ nose rider that you just dusted off. As a predominant shortboarder, I actually live for these days. When you gather your crew together and paddle out with no expectations. There is just something pure about it. Sitting out on the calm waters, laughing with your friends, catching as many waves as you can without caring about performance. To me, there is something magical about days like these.

Bill Maher Goes Off on Nunes Memo: ‘Republicans These Days Are Treasonous Rats’

HBO

“Forget Groundhog Day. The only large, rat-like creature I’m concerned about is Devin Nunes,” cracked Bill Maher at the top of his Real Time monologue on Friday. “Of course, it’s not fair to single him out. All the Republicans these days are treasonous rats.”

Before the comedian and his #NeverTrump panel embarrassed guest Anthony Scaramucci, Maher delivered a fiery monologue wherein he got so worked up over the House Republicans’ protocol-breaching release of the Nunes memo, done with President Trump’s blessing—who he referred to as “fat Nixon”—that he had to pause for a breather.

“Trump declassified this Nunes memo, which is supposed to make us think that our own top law enforcement people are crooked so Trump can get away with his Russia crimes. Problem is, Republicans talk about this memo as if it’s some smoking-gun piece of evidence they uncovered. No! They wrote it! They uncovered it in their printer! It’s not an intelligence document, it’s a Facebook post that you briefly skim before clicking ‘unfriend,’” joked Maher.

How to Stay Fit in Winter: Snow Days, Resolutions, and Other Fun

how to stay fit in winterWe haven’t had a discussion on how to stay fit in winter (or fitness in general!) in far too long, so let’s discuss today.  Here are the questions:

  • what do you do to stay fit in the winter? If you go outside the house (running, gym, etc) do you have a backup that you do if it’s too slippery/cold outside to motivate, or do you just not work out?
  • for those of you who stream your fitness (YouTube, Beachbody, etc), what are your favorite channels/trainers/programs?
  • for those of you who do apps for things like strength training, what are your favorites?
  • if you own a machine (elliptical trainer, rower, bike [or Fit Desk], etc) what do you own, and are you happy you purchased it?

I’m still finding my footing with fitness after my knee surgery and my second pregnancy, which left me with hip issues that flare up — but I’m more motivated and inspired than I’ve been in a while to get strong and hopefully get back to running in a few months. These are the fitness things I see the readers talk about most often — if there are any devotees of these programs or any others I’d love to hear you comment!

What are your best tips for how to stay fit in the winter? Is anyone doing any intense new workouts as part of your resolutions? What’s your favorite kind of winter/housebound exercise, and why?

Psst: here are our most recent posts with tips before you hire a personal trainer, how to fit lunch workouts into your workday, and our best tips on packing a gym back for the office.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression triggered by shorter days and reduced light.

“We are in the midst of the full-blown SAD season,” said said Loyola Medicine psychiatrist Angelos Halaris, MD, PhD.

Seasonal affective disorder affects between three and five percent of the population. SAD is thought to be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain, brought on by lack of light due to shorter days and overcast skies.

Seasonal affective disorder affects between three and five percent of the population. SAD is thought to be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain, brought on by lack of light due to shorter days and overcast skies.

SAD causes depression, excessive sleepiness, lack of interest, reduced motivation and fatigue, making it difficult to get up in the morning. In the most severe cases, people can stay in bed all day, or even attempt suicide. The season lasts until mid-April.

“Seasonal affective disorder should not be taken lightly,” Dr. Halaris said.

Dr. Halaris said four strategies can help:

Sunshine. If possible, spend at least 30 minutes a day outside. Don’t wear sunglasses. And if it’s not too cold, roll up your sleeves – exposing your skin to sunlight helps relieve symptoms of SAD.

Lights. Your home and work should be as well-lit as possible. Open drapes and blinds to let in natural light. In addition, purchase a high-intensity light box designed for SAD therapy. Sit close to the box for 30 to 45 minutes in the morning and 30 to 45 minutes in the evening. Although you can do light therapy on your own, it’s best to consult a mental health professional.

Exercise. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise releases endorphins and other brain chemicals that create a sense of well-being and make you feel more energized.

Medications. If sunshine, lights and exercise aren’t enough to ward off SAD, see a mental health professional. Two classes of anti-depressant medications are effective against SAD: monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and selective serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs and SNRIs).

Dr. Halaris specializes in the treatment of depression. He is medical director of adult psychiatry and a professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences at Loyola University Chicago Stitch School of Medicine.
