Selena Gomez’s Puma collection contains secret details

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez’s second Puma collection contains hidden messages about her life.
The 26-year-old singer released her much-anticipated new fashion line with the sportswear giant on Wednesday (15.05.19), and the star has revealed that she included subtle details about her past in her designs, including the “coordinates” of her Grand Prairie, Texas “hometown”.
There are semi colons referenced to represent the tattoo she got with the cast of Netflix’s ’13 Reasons Why’ – which she is executive producer of – that has become a symbol for the battle with depression and a new life chapter.
She told US Glamour: “I’ve put everything from some of my tattoos, my birthdate, the coordinates of my hometown — even working with lupus and having an artist create a box for a shoe that I release where some of the proceeds are able to go to that.
“I try to find original ways of doing it. Every single thing that I do in my career and my life, I just feel so grateful. So most of the time, I try to put a little piece of me in [it].”
And Selena loves to keep her wardrobe simple and “sophisticated”.
She added: “I love trying new things, but I generally love pieces that I feel very sophisticated, sexy, and classy in. I personally don’t want anything that’s too distracting.
“I like to be chill. I don’t overthink anything. I’ll put things together randomly–put on a sweater, throw on a belt with it, maybe wear a skirt or something. It just depends on where I’m at, mentally. I mean, half of fashion is being confident, I think.”
The ‘I Can’t Get Enough’ hitmaker also insisted that her attitude to fashion can come and go, but for the majority of the time, she “loves” it.
She continued: “I go through periods where I’m absolutely in love with fashion, and then I go through periods where I’m like, ‘I don’t know what to wear, I don’t know what’s cool.’ And I’m going to just do my own thing.”

4 Important Details to Address in Your Cover Letter

A Cover Letter is more than just a professional introduction;
it gives a potential employer more insight into the relevant skills and
abilities that you listed in your Resume. Job searchers are usually aware of
the more obvious details you should include in a Cover Letter, like contact
information or summaries of past work experience.

However, a Cover Letter doesn’t just have to be a sales
pitch about you. It can also be a good place to let a potential employer know
about other details that are relevant, but don’t really belong on your Resume.

In this post, we take a look at some common things you
should address in your Cover Letter that help make your application more
transparent and accurate.

Addressing Your Location in Your Cover Letter

If you’re applying for jobs outside of where you are currently living, it might be a good idea to explain why in your Cover Letter.

Although in some industries it may be common for employers
to receive applications from candidates outside of their local area, it is not
always the case. Explaining that you are, for instance, preparing to move to
the location soon or are willing to relocate for work purposes gives the
employer a clear idea of your intentions, and aids in the transparency of your
application.

Some jobs offer remote work positions, and in that case,
stating your location in your Cover Letter might not be entirely necessary, but
could still prove to be helpful for your potential employer by allowing them to
plan ahead if they decide to hire you when considering how time zone
differences might affect your work schedule, as an example.

Listing Your Preferred Work Hours in Your Cover Letter

Usually, a job posting includes information about the number of hours an employee in that position is expected to work per week, as well as what type of position it is (full time, part time, contract, or temporary), but occasionally employers forget to include this important detail.

Similar to listing your location, stating your preferred
work hours in your Cover Letter benefits you and your potential employer by
reducing confusion about your intentions, and preventing either of you from
wasting your time if the employer can’t accommodate your preferred work
schedule.

Mentioning Your Preferred Start Date in Your Cover Letter

When you apply for a job, the employer will most likely
assume that you are either ready to start immediately or some time in the near
future. Most employers also understand that it’s common for applicants who are
switching jobs to give at least two weeks’ notice to their current employer before
they transition to a new company.

However, there may be cases where you won’t be able to start
until a certain date, so it might be a good idea to include that date in your
Cover Letter, and a short (but relevant) description of the reason why.

For instance, if your current job is contract-based and your
contract will be ending on a date three or four months from the date you
applied for your new job, you should address it in your Cover Letter. Explaining
that you have an obligation to finish your contract before being able to start
a position with a new company will prevent a potentially awkward conversation
later when you have to explain why you can’t start on the date expected.

Mentioning Reasons for a Career Change in Your Cover Letter

Aside from writing your Resume for a career change, your Cover Letter should also explain your intention to change careers if you’re applying for a job in a completely different field than what most of your experience has been in.

Your Cover Letter can be a good place to go into a bit more
detail about why you decided to change career paths, and what you’ve done to
prepare for your new career choice (such as volunteering, education, training,
etc.)

For instance, perhaps video game development has always been a passion of yours, so in your spare time you took several programming and game development-focused courses, and maybe even volunteered your time to help program some aspect of a game for a local video game company. While you would want to include the details of these endeavors in your Resume, you could introduce them in your Cover Letter.

Adding Important Details to Your Cover Letter

Generally, the first thing a potential employer sees when
they are looking at your application is your Cover Letter. That’s why it’s
important to make sure it includes accurate details about your professional
persona so that both you and your employer are on the same page when it comes
to work location, hours, start date, and more.

What Credit Score Do You Need to Buy a House? We’ve Got the Details

Whether you’re eyeballs-deep in mortgage paperwork or you’re just beginning to consider (figuratively) kissing your landlord goodbye and buying a home, one question is probably weighing heavily on your mind: What credit score is needed to buy a house?

The answer is — like practically everything about real estate and the homebuying process — complicated.

Lenders do care a lot about your credit score because it tells them how you’ve managed money in the past. The lower your score, the higher your risk of defaulting.

But the truth is, there’s no one magic credit score that guarantees you’ll be approved for a mortgage.

And while your credit score is one of the most important factors your lender considers when you apply for a mortgage, that three-digit number isn’t the only thing that determines whether you’re approved or denied.

Wait, What’s a Credit Score? And What Credit Score Is Needed to Buy a Home?

First things first: A credit score is a number that tells creditors how likely you are to repay debt.

But you do not have just one single credit score. You have three scores, one with each of the major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. The scores are generated by FICO, a data analytics company, using information provided by each bureau.

But where it gets tricky is that lenders often use industry-specific versions of your score. That’s because your risk of defaulting on a home loan is different from your risk of not making your car payment.

FICO scores range from 300 (relax, there’s almost zero chance yours is this low) to 850. As of 2015, the average credit score was 695, according to ValuePenguin.

You’ll typically get the best rate and terms on a mortgage if you have good credit — usually about 760 or higher.

But what’s the lowest credit score you can have if you want to buy a house? Let’s say it all together now: It’s complicated.

You may have seen advertisements for homebuyer programs with low minimum credit score requirements.

We’ll discuss the requirements for specific programs later, but for now, let’s look at the increasingly popular FHA mortgage, which is a loan insured by the Federal Housing Administration known for its low down-payment requirements and credit score leniency.

You can qualify for an FHA loan with a 3.5% down payment with a credit score as low as 580 — which is considered a poor credit score.

But having a 580 credit score does not guarantee you will be approved for an FHA loan or any other mortgage. That’s just the minimum for the federal government to insure your loan.

Each lender has its own criteria that determine whether you’re approved for a mortgage, and with a 580 credit score, it would probably be difficult to find a lender to approve your mortgage.

Consider the following Credit Sesame survey of 600 people who applied for a mortgage:

Of those who applied for a $ 150,000 mortgage, 62% of respondents with a credit score in the “fair” range (650-700) were denied. Applicants with a “good” score of 700-750 were denied 23% of the time. Meanwhile, 91% of applicants with a score below 550 were denied.

The bottom line is: There’s no absolute minimum credit score to get a mortgage, but the higher your score, the better your odds are of approval.

A row of houses.

Do Mortgage Lenders Look at All Three Scores?

It depends on the lender. Some will just pull one score; others use two or all three. If your lender pulls two scores, it will usually use the lower one. If it pulls all three, your middle score will typically be used.

Can You Get a Mortgage if You Don’t Have a Credit Score?

The frustrating thing about credit is that paying your rent, utilities and other bills on time doesn’t help you build a credit history.

According to ValuePenguin, about 1 in 7 adults in the U.S. have no credit score, typically because they haven’t used credit in at least six months.

If you don’t have a credit score, it will be difficult (but not completely impossible) to get a mortgage.

If you have a history of paying your bills on time, you may be able to qualify for an FHA loan with no credit history, although it might be tough to find a lender.

You’re more likely to get approved through a smaller lender, particularly one that offers manual underwriting, which basically means that a human, rather than an algorithm, decides whether you’re approved.

What if I’m Applying for a Mortgage With a Spouse or Someone Else?

Your lender will look at both of your credit scores — which means that if your spouse or any other co-applicant has a low credit score, it could disqualify you.

If your partner has bad credit, one workaround would be to leave them off the application, meaning the home and debt would be solely in your name.

You could always refinance and add them as a co-borrower once they improve their credit.

What Other Factors Do Mortgage Lenders Consider?

Your credit score can absolutely make or break your application.

That said, lenders want to know A LOT about you before they approve you for what’s probably the biggest purchase of your life. Here are some other factors they’ll consider.

Income

While lenders have different requirements, a good rule of thumb is that your principal, interest, property taxes and insurance payments (both property and private mortgage insurance), plus homeowner association fees if applicable, shouldn’t exceed 28% of your pretax income.

Debt

Lenders want to make sure you don’t have too much debt. That’s why they pay close attention to your debt-to-income ratio, which is the percentage of your gross household income that goes toward minimum debt payments.

To get a qualified mortgage — that is, one that complies with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s regulations that were designed to make sure borrowers could afford to repay their loans — you’ll need a debt-to-income ratio of 43% or lower.

You may still be able to get a mortgage if your debt-to-income ratio is higher than 43%, but it’s likely to come with high fees and other risky features.

Down Payment

Chances are, you won’t need the traditional 20% down payment. But if you can afford it, it does come with lots of advantages: lower interest rates and monthly payments, and you might not need private mortgage insurance.

We’ll get into specific types of mortgages and how much you need to put down for each later, but the median down payment for first-time homebuyers is just 6%, according to the National Association of Realtors. And some programs allow you to put down even less.

If you have a weak credit score, a larger down payment could help you get a mortgage loan for that new home.

Employment History

Your lender will typically want to see at least two years of continuous employment before approving you.

This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to have stayed in the same job for the two years before you get a mortgage, although if you’ve recently switched to a completely different field, this could make your lender nervous.

Minimum Credit Score by Mortgage Type

A house with a sun low in the sky.

The government “backs,” or insures, some mortgage loans, such as the FHA loans we discussed earlier.

With these loan programs, the government guarantees lenders that they’ll get paid even if borrowers default.

As a result, riskier borrowers with lower credit scores are able to get mortgages they might not qualify for otherwise. These are known as unconventional loans.

A conventional loan is a mortgage that isn’t backed by the government. That means banks have stricter criteria for approval.

They typically require that these loans meet the standards set by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the giant government-controlled companies that buy up loans and sell them on the secondary mortgage market.

(Fun fact: Your bank or credit union will probably sell your home loan on the secondary mortgage market, rather than holding on to it for the life of the loan.)

Below are the minimum requirements for each type of loan.

Remember, though: These are just the minimum requirements that the government sets to back unconventional loans. In the case of conventional loans, they are the requirements set by Fannie and Freddie to repurchase loans. Your bank or credit union will often require a higher score.

Conventional Loans

If you qualify for a conventional loan, you’ll pay lower interest rates. You can also often avoid paying an upfront mortgage insurance payment, which many unconventional loans require.

Conventional loans typically require a down payment of at least 5%.

Minimum credit score: 620-640

FHA Loans

These FHA-insured mortgages have smaller down payments and closing costs than conventional loans, but you have to pay an upfront mortgage insurance premium of 1.75% of the loan’s value.

Also, your monthly payment can’t be more than 31% of your gross monthly income.

Minimum credit score: 500 if you put 10% down; 580 if you put down 3.5%.

VA Loans

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs insures parts of mortgages for active-duty military, veterans and surviving spouses.

No down payment is required, but you have to pay an upfront funding fee of 2.15% to 2.4% of the loan unless you qualify for a waiver.

Minimum credit score: No minimum score is required by the VA, but lenders usually require a score of 620.

USDA Loans

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) backs mortgages for homes in certain rural areas through this program. No down payment is required.

Minimum credit score: No minimum score is required by the USDA, but lenders usually require a 640.

How Your Credit Score Affects Your Mortgage Rate

The lower your credit score, the higher you can expect your interest rate to be on your mortgage. That’s because your interest rate is based in part on how risky you’re considered as a borrower.

FICO has a handy mortgage calculator that shows you how much interest you can expect to pay on a mortgage loan based on your credit.

As of Feb. 1, 2019, if you have a credit score of 760 or above, you could expect to pay an annual percentage rate (APR) of 3.979% on a 30-year fixed loan of $ 150,000. But if your credit score is between 620 and 639, your APR would be around 5.568%.

You may be thinking: “So what? What’s a measly 1.6 percentage points?” Well, consider how your interest rate affects your payment over the life of the loan:

FICO score APR Monthly principal payment Total interest paid
760-850 3.979% $ 714 $ 107,151
700-759 4.201% $ 734 $ 114,101
680-699 4.378% $ 749 $ 119,710
660-679 4.592% $ 768 $ 126,570
640-659 5.022% $ 807 $ 140,610
620-639 5.568% $ 858 $ 158,914

In the example above, having a credit score of 760 or higher would save you more than $ 50,000 over 30 years compared with if your score was in the 620-639 range.

How to Get Your Free Credit Score

OK, so now you know that having a good credit score is mega important when you apply for a mortgage. But how do you find out your credit score?

To keep a closer eye on your credit, get your credit score and a “credit report card” for free from Credit Sesame. It breaks down exactly what’s on your credit report, how it affects your score and how to address it — in layman’s terms.

4 Steps for Improving Your Credit Score Before You Buy a House

A couple moves into a house.

So, what if you’ve checked your credit score and what you found was less than desirable? You can improve your score. It’s not going to happen overnight, but these tips can help.

1. Make On-Time Payments No Matter What

Your payment history is the most important factor in determining your credit score, accounting for 35% of your score.

Set up automatic payments for at least the minimums using your bank’s online bill-pay system so you’re never late on a payment.

2. Look for Errors on Your Credit Report

More than 1 in 5 consumers have at least one possible error on their credit reports, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Removing inaccurate negative information, such as a delinquent account that doesn’t belong to you, is the quickest way to boost your score.

If you find errors on any of your credit reports, your first step is to dispute the information with the bureaus.

3. Ask Your Credit Card Companies to Increase Your Limits

Your credit utilization ratio — the percentage of your overall credit that you’re using — accounts for 30% of your credit score. Generally, you want to keep this number below 30% to have a healthy credit score.

By increasing the amount of credit you have available, you’ll lower your credit utilization. Because opening a new account can ding your score, asking for more credit on your current accounts is usually better.

4. Keep Paying Down Your Balances

Make an action plan to pay down debt, and avoid adding new charges so you can continue to lower your credit utilization ratio.

Remember: Mortgage lenders want to see a healthy debt-to-income ratio, so paying down debt will increase the odds of your approval.

Even if you can’t get a traditional mortgage because of your credit score, there are still alternative ways to buy a house without credit.

But if you want to own a house, it might be in your best interest to keep paying off your debt and improving your scores. Think of all the money you’ll save in the long run.

New report shares early details about Apple’s first five original TV shows

Apple streaming service

We’re exactly one week away from Apple’s “show time” event at the Steve Jobs Theater, and although the company has yet to share any details about the event, the expectation is that the veil will be lifted on Apple’s streaming service. And now, thanks to a report from The New York Times, we know that five original series are already done filming, and will presumably be ready in time for the launch of the service later this year.

According to the report, five series have wrapped, with “around a half dozen more” on the verge of completion. But the people behind those shows reportedly have not been told when they can expect their shows to debut. All they’ve been told is that their shows will stream on the Apple service “later this year, probably fall.” This has, understandably, given some of the talent cause for concern, especially with a big reveal event just days away.

Facebook health data

Stop us if you’ve heard a version of this one before. Facebook is slurping up a trove of extremely personal data from users of almost a dozen smartphone apps — apps which send along info that includes extremely private health details that the user, of course, is unaware Facebook is getting its hands on.

That’s according to a test of more than 70 apps reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, which found that at least 11 are sending such details to Facebook without the users’ knowledge. Not only that, Facebook can apparently also collect this data from users of the various apps in question who don’t have a Facebook account.

Lawsuit Details How The Sackler Family Allegedly Built An OxyContin Fortune

The first nine months of 2013 started off as a banner year for the Sackler family, owners of the pharmaceutical company that produces OxyContin, the addictive opioid pain medication. Purdue Pharma paid the family $ 400 million from its profits during that time, claims a lawsuit filed by the Massachusetts attorney general.

However, when profits dropped in the fourth quarter, the family allegedly supported the company’s intense push to increase sales representatives’ visits to doctors and other prescribers.

Purdue had hired a consulting firm to help reps target “high-prescribing” doctors, including several in Massachusetts. One physician in a town south of Boston wrote an additional 167 prescriptions for OxyContin after sales representatives increased their visits, according to the latest version of the lawsuit filed Thursday in Suffolk County Superior Court in Boston.

The lawsuit claims Purdue paid members of the Sackler family more than $ 4 billion between 2008 and 2016. Eight members of the family who served on the board or as executives as well as several directors and officers with Purdue are named in the lawsuit. This is the first lawsuit among hundreds of others that were previously filed across the country to charge the Sacklers with personally profiting from the harm and death of people taking the company’s opioids.

WBUR along with several other media sued Purdue Pharma to force the release of previously redacted information that was filed in the Massachusetts Superior Court case. When a judge ordered the records to be released with few, if any, redactions this week, Purdue filed two appeals and lost.

The complaint filed by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey says that former Purdue Pharma CEO Richard Sackler allegedly suggested the family sell the company or, if they weren’t able to find a buyer, to milk the drugmaker’s profits and “distribute more free cash flow” to themselves.

That was in 2008, one year after Purdue pleaded guilty to a felony and agreed to stop misrepresenting the addictive potential of its highly profitable painkiller, OxyContin.

At a board meeting in June 2008, the complaint says, the Sacklers voted to pay themselves $ 250 million. Another payment in September totaled $ 199 million.

The company continued to receive complaints about OxyContin similar to those that led to the 2007 guilty plea, according to unredacted documents filed in the case.

While the company settled lawsuits in 2009 totaling $ 2.7 million brought by family members of those who had been harmed by OxyContin throughout the country, the company amped up its marketing of the drug to physicians by spending $ 121.6 million on sales reps for the coming year. The Sacklers paid themselves $ 335 million that year.

The lawsuit claims Sackler family members directed efforts to boost sales. An attorney for the family and other board directors is challenging the authority to make that claim in Massachusetts. A motion on jurisdiction in the case hasn’t been heard. That attorney hasn’t responded to a request for comment on the most recent allegations.

Purdue Pharma, in a statement, said the complaint filed by Healey is “part of a continuing effort to single out Purdue, blame it for the entire opioid crisis, and try the case in the court of public opinion rather than the justice system.”

Purdue went on to charge Healey with attempting to “vilify” Purdue in a complaint “riddled with demonstrably inaccurate allegations.” Purdue said it has more than 65 initiatives aimed at reducing the misuse of prescription opioids. The company says Healey fails to acknowledge that most opioid overdose deaths are currently the result of fentanyl.

Purdue fought the release of many sections of the 274-page complaint. Attorneys for the company said at a hearing on Jan. 25 that they had agreed to release much more information in Massachusetts than has been cleared by a judge overseeing hundreds of cases consolidated in Ohio. Purdue filed both state and federal appeals this week to block release of the compensation figures and other information about Purdue’s plan to expand into drugs to treat opioid addiction.

The attorney general’s complaint says that in a ploy to distance themselves from the emerging statistics and studies that showed OxyContin’s addictive characteristics, the Sacklers approved public marketing plans that labeled people hurt by opioids as “junkies” and “criminals.”

Richard Sackler allegedly wrote that Purdue should “hammer” them in every way possible.

While Purdue Pharma publicly denied its opioids were addictive, internally company officials were acknowledging it and devising a plan to profit off them even more, the complaint states.

Kathe Sackler, a board member, pitched “Project Tango,” a secret plan to grow Purdue beyond providing painkillers by also providing a drug, Suboxone, to treat those addicted.

“Addictive opioids and opioid addiction are ‘naturally linked,’” she allegedly wrote in September 2014.

According to the lawsuit, Purdue staff wrote: “It is an attractive market. Large unmet need for vulnerable, underserved and stigmatized patient population suffering from substance abuse, dependence and addiction.”

They predicted that 40-60 percent of the patients buying Suboxone for the first time would relapse and have to take it again, which meant more revenue.

Purdue never went through with it, but Attorney General Healey contends this and other internal documents show the family’s greed and disregard for the welfare of patients.

Sears Details $443M in Expenses to Close 142 Stores

Sears Holdings Corp. detailed the hefty cost of closing 142 stores in a regulatory filing Tuesday. The store closures were revealed on Oct. 15 when the company filed its voluntary Chapter 11 petition for bankruptcy court protection.
Sears said it expects to “incur charges of $ 443 million” in total costs to shutter the stores. That includes $ 81 million in markdowns, $ 9 million in severance costs, $ 335 million in lease termination costs, $ 12 million in other charges and $ 6 million in depreciation in the third and fourth quarters.
Since the bankruptcy filing, Sears has tagged an additional 40 doors for closure.
The retailer, which operates under the Sears and Kmart nameplates, is trying to find a buyer for the company as a going concern. So far its chairman Edward S. Lampert, through his hedge fund ESL Investments, has offered a nonbinding bid of $ 4.6 billion for the assets. If accepted, that offer would in effect constitute Sears’s exit plan from bankruptcy. It is not clear any other party will submit a going-concern offer for the company. Liquidators are expected to submit offers, but those are geared toward winding the business down.

41 Spooky ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ Details You Probably Missed

WARNING: This articles contains spoilers for the first season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Proceed at your own risk, witches.

If you know what’s good for you, you’ve binged all of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and are ravenous for more. Even though it’ll probably be a while until we get more episodes, we have some delicious morsels to tide you over.

Back in September, we got to visit everyone’s favorite Greendale witch up on set in Vancouver and chat with all the brilliant creative minds behind the show — from cast members to behind-the-scenes crew. Here’s everything we learned, and everywhere you can literally find the devil in the details.

Look Out For Horror All the Horror Movie References

1. The doors in Father Blackwood’s office are the same design as the iconic doors from the 1977 horror movie Suspiria.

2. The Spellman Family’s living room ceiling is also a nod to Suspiria.

3. All of the artwork in the Academy on Unseen Arts was supplied by horror icon Clive Barker. Over 150 of his pieces are on display throughout the show.

4. Father Blackwood has a table and stools in his office that, when pushed together, form the same shape as the Hellraiser box.

The Crew Used Real Magic On Set

5. When someone on the set of Chilling Adventures sneezes, everyone says “Hail Satan” instead of “bless you.”

6. The crew cast real protection spells around the set. If you look closely at the Spellman house, you might spot a real German protection spell engraved on the wall and a protection spell on the floor.

7. Sabrina’s signature color is red — it signifies power, femininity, and fierceness. Production designer Lisa Soper did a tarot card reading for every character in the show to determine their signature color palette, and for Sabrina, she drew the Magician card.

Pay Attention to the Colors

8. The witch world is associated with brighter colors throughout the show, and humans are associated with more muted and mundane colors.

9. There are small touches of red throughout the show that are meant to guide Sabrina on her journey.

10. The juxtaposition of Sabrina in her red clothing and the surrounding green woods of Greendale is also a subtle nod to Alfred Hitchcock’s use of the two colors.

11. Hilda and Zelda’s shared bedroom colors mirror their personalities: Zelda’s side is purple (symbolizing her fight to uphold the Church of Night’s established structure and rules), and Hilda’s side is green (symbolizing her progressive nature and ability to let things grow and flourish).

The Spellman House is a Work of Art

12. The shoes on the wall outside of Zelda and Hilda’s room all belong to Zelda. Every time Zelda casts a hex on someone, she binds the magic to a shoe and places it on the wall for safe keeping. As long as the shoe remains there, the person remains hexed.

13. There’s a movie poster for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane in Ambrose’s room, which is a sardonic nod to his aunts.

14. If you look closely at Sabrina’s bedroom mirror, you’ll see pictures of Harvey as well as the Tarot cards for judgement (signifying that she’s having trouble deciding which path to take) and the Queen of Wands (signifying the decision to finally embrace her own power).

15. Sabrina’s dollhouse includes an exact replica of her bedroom.

16. There’s a super creepy monster watermark on the hallway wall that leads to the embalming room.

17. The Spellman House is designed to appear more normal in the front, and then get gradually more magical and witchy as you get further away from where Hilda, Zelda, and Ambrose meet clients.

18. Nature is a huge theme throughout the show, and is meant to symbolize rebirth and earth taking over.

19. If you look closely, you’ll notice that Hilda and Zelda share a chair in the Spellman Mortuary office.

20. The living room wallpaper is the Gibson Girl, Charles Dana Gibson’s feminine ideal from the 1800s.

21. The Spellman’s front door is modeled after the door from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The House of Seven Gables — complete with the signature iron spikes, but updated and painted in Sabrina’s signature color.

22. Sabrina’s Dark Baptism was based on Goya’s famous “Witches’ Sabbath” painting, which hangs in the living room.

23. Everything in the Spellman House is built to be slightly off-kilter — from the walls to the staircase. It was a huge challenge for the crew to build.

24. Most of the paintings in the show are meant to reflect the theme of feminine strength, including “The Magic Circle” by John William Waterhouse hanging near the Spellman’s kitchen.

The Devil’s in the Details

25. Every object on Miss Wardwell’s fireplace is significant and has something to do with each episode — you can even see the Red Angel of Death.

26. Miss Wardwell has a specific doll for every single character in the show, and showrunner Roberto Augirre-Sacasa has a duplicate of every single one that’s been made.

27. The crucifix over Miss Wardwell’s fireplace turns upside side once she becomes possessed by Madam Satan.

28. Zelda reads newspapers in different languages because she’s a brilliant badass.

29. Susie’s room is full of nods to her gender identity and journey, including a quote from ‘Metamorphosis’ on her wall.

The Academy of Unseen Arts is Full of Surprises

30. All of the books in the Baxter High Library are real, but the books in the Academy of Unseen Arts are fake and built by hand.

31. The Academy was designed in the shape of a pentagram, and is meant to have an infinite number of hallways and rooms.

32. The big satan sculpture inside the Academy is modeled after Baphomet, the Church of Satan’s sigil.

33. The sculpture is made of foam and took three days to hand carve. It’s super light and you can pick it up pretty easily.

34. Father Blackwood has fully functional fireplaces on both sides of his desk to make it seem like he’s always surrounded by hellfire.

Father Blackwood Is A Lot Like…Meryl Streep?

35. Actor Richard Coyle based his portrayal of Father Blackwood on Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, as well as Paul Scofield in The Crucible and Charles Lawton in Spartacus. “There’s something clipped about all of those characters and they way they present themselves,” Coyle said. “And there’s something meticulous about Blackwood, and clean and reptilian and cold-blooded.”

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Father Blackwood
Meryl Streep in 'The Devil Wears Prada' and Father Blackwood.

36. Father Blackwood originally wore creepy false teeth, but Coyle said he “looked like Christopher Walken in Sleepy Hollow.”

37. According to actor Chance Perdomo, Ambrose’s style is equal parts “David Bowie and Jimmy Hendrix on a quiet day.”

38. Actor Michelle Gomez originally based her voice for Miss Wardwell on Maggie Smith, but was asked in her audition to try something else.

39. The prop heart Ambrose eats in Episode 5 was made of gelatin and corn syrup. Perdomo said it was “sticky and very chewy, sweet, both awesome and very unpleasant at the same time.”

40. Actor Kiernan Shipka, like her on-screen character Sabrina, is super hard to scare. Shipka said, “That’s why I think I really like horror, because I feel like it’s almost testing me to a certain level.”

Try to Find the Secret Jughead Easter Egg

41. There’s a secret Jughead crown and message (“Jughead was here”) carved into the Fiction (R-V) bookshelf in the Baxter High Library. There’s also a piece of Aguirre-Sacasa’s old homework lying around somewhere in the library.
