Watch Antonio Banderas Awkwardly Clap During 2018 Emmys

Move over, Nicole Kidman, there’s a star with a stranger clap in town. Antonio Banderas caught the attention of viewers during the 70th Anual Primetime Emmy Awards — but it’s not for reasons you might think.

While the 58-year-old actor sat in the crowd of the star-studded celebration on Monday, September 17 — where he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie award for Genius: Picasso — Banderas turned heads for his odd applause.

Antonio Banderas' Clapping Goes Viral at 2018 Emmys

“Whaaat is this clap from Antonio Banderas? #Emmys,” one Twitter user wrote. Another added: “Calling it early for gif of the year. Gotta be Antonio Banderas’ weird Emmy clapping. An appropriate reply to anything.”

Other social media users chimed in, writing, “We need to talk about how Antonio Banderas was just clapping with claw fingers. Also someone make a GIF of it. Thanks. #Emmys.” Another commenter quipped: “Uh… if we meme’d Nicole Kidman clapping, we MUST meme the hell out of whatever Antonio Banderas was just doing with his hands. #Emmys”

The fixation on Banderas’ clap comes more than a year after Kidman, 51, made headlines for the way she applauded at the 2017 Oscars.

The Big Little Lies actress spoke out about the viral moment in March 2017 and explained that the bling she was wearing made it hard for her to clap.

“It was really awkward,” Kidman gushed. “I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping’ — that’d be worse, right? Like, ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it.”

Banderas, for his part, didn’t appear to be wearing any sort of jewelry that would get in the way of his applause.

These are the most Instagrammable places to go during London Fashion Week

How to be an influencer 101…

Photo: Olivier Degoulange/REX/Shutterstock

London fashion week has officially started which means all manner of things – bad traffic, excellent celebrity spotting and a lot of well-dressed people frequenting the city.

One of the most exciting parts of London fashion week however is the Instagram opportunities, which are endless BTW.

Sure, you might not have invites to the hottest shows in town, but even if you’re not actually attending LFW, you can still get in on the buzz, right?

From cool monochrome cafes and fashion week backdrops, to beautifully tiled floors and pop up presentations, there are plenty of Instagrammable ‘fasshuuun’ opportunities to go around.

So from getting an on-trend coffee to a LFW beauty treatment, here are the most Instagrammable places in London to hang out during fashion week.

Duck and Dry

What’s happening? For blow dries in the capital, there are few places more Instagrammable than Duck and Dry. Marble counters, duck egg blue furnishings, bare-bricked walls and the perfect egg-shaped mirrors to take blow dry selfies and Boomerang videos in.

What to order: A blow dry and a glass of Prosecco, or if you manage to get an invite to a party or show, get yourself a professional updo.

Glow Bar

What’s happening? While this isn’t a London Fashion Week exclusive, plenty of influencers will be hanging out in the new Instagrammable health and beauty shop over the weekend to browse the self-care drinks and take advantage of the Wifi and photographic decor (we’re talking pastel pink furnishings and rich green plants).

What to order: A moon milk – yes, it’s a thing and it’s packed with superfoods. Take your pick from chill, glow, yoni, golden or siren, and be sure to snap it against the marble table.

The Shop at The Bluebird

What’s happening? Covent Garden’s The Shop at The Bluebird has got a pop-up London Fashion Week area. We’re talking vitamin IV drips, rails of Rixo dresses and Bella Freud jumpers to browse, complimentary Kombucha and pop-up agile work stations with every phone charger imaginable. Did we mention the extra strong WiFi?

What to order: A vitamin IV drip and a complimentary bottle of Kombucha.

NAC Mayfair

What’s happening? NAC is the place to go to for an Instagrammable brunch – and the food lives up to the hype. Expect the fashion crowd to head to NAC this fashion week season – and it’s not just because of the French bistro’s Mayfair location, situated near a lot of the shows. Decor-wise, we’re talking whitewashed bricks, pink backdrops and dark green plush sofas, and to eat, every brunch dish imaginable from churros and french toast to banana pancakes, acai bowls and all kinds of avocado concoctions.

What to order: The banana pancakes of course – they’re the most popular to Instagram and will give you a sugar hit before your day of fashion week oggling.

Saint Aymes

What’s happening? What’s not happening at Saint Aymes? Almost every fashion blogger you’ve ever heard of has had the obligatory Instagram snap on the black and white tiled floor in front of the wisteria-framed cafe. Flower walls, stunning tiles for downwards shoe shots and of course the pastel crockery to laden with whatever Instagrammable food you decide upon.

What to order: A signature unicorn latte – yes there is such a thing as a unicorn latte, and yes, as its name would suggest – it’s Instagrammable AF. Also on the must-try list are the pastel heart-shaped biscuit and the blueberry pancakes.

Farm Girl

What’s happening? Given the central locations of all three Farm Girls, they tend to be an obligatory stop for fashion bloggers and YouTubers – especially given the excellent lighting and photographic coffees. Whether they’re covered in lavender seeds or decorated with pug faces, their lattes might just be the most Instagrammable in history.

What to order: After bracing the cold weather for street style photo opps, we’d recommend a warming chai latte, but the liquid gold latte featuring a pug’s face and the rose petal latte are the most Instagrammable by far.

DryBy

What’s happening? DryBy has just had a revamp, turning it into an Instagrammable glam preparation hub. We’re talking agile working stations, allowing you to work on your laptop during a blow dry. Then head on downstairs for a gel manicure, with specialist technicians offering customised metallic designs and lettering.

What to order: A signature blow dry and a manicure of course.

Sketch London

What’s happening? Sketch has always been one of London’s most Instagrammable eateries, with each room offering different photographic opportunities. Fashion week is no exception, with influencers flocking to Sketch for the ‘gram. The Gallery offers the most photogenic afternoon teas, from its pink plush decor to the zigzag floors and monochrome drawings on the walls and the Glade is best if you feature a lot of greens on your feed. Maybe a trip to both is necessary? Just saying.

What to order: Afternoon tea at the Gallery, and an obligatory visit to the Sketch bathrooms for a photo in front of the iconic pod toilets. Trust us.

Dandelyan

What’s happening? For a post-fashion week cocktail, there are few places more on-trend. The Art Deco inspired decor (that lavender leather sofa), a soundtrack of 70s/ 80s rock mixed with funk and disco, and of course the most Instagrammable cocktail menu around – from the Nemo Old Fashioned and HMS Hi-ball, to the Nitrate Manhattan and Concrete Sazerac.

What to order: For Instagram purposes, the King Pig Sour or the Monkey Puzzle – solely for glass choice, cocktail colour and garnishing.

See you there! And happy Instagramming over fashion week!

AJ Pritchard put on a stone during Celebrity MasterChef

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Pritchard put on a stone while filming ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro has had to get back in shape after piling on the pounds after tasting all of his own dishes during his multiple trial runs.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “It’s because I was trialling my dishes again and again. Luckily it’s all gone now I’m dancing again.
“I just love to eat and to practise cooking, especially when I had the opportunity to cook desserts. I wanted to eat all of them and cook again.”
On ‘Strictly’ AJ, 23, has to face the wrath of Craig Revel Horwood and his fellow judges Bruno Tonioli, Shirley Ballas and Darcey Bussell, but he insisted Gregg Wallace and John Torode were much scarier.
He said: “I was like a rabbit caught in headlights. On ‘Strictly’ I know what to anticipate, but John and Gregg were more terrifying.”
He was trialling his dishes so often he managed to buy all the racks of lamb in his local villages.
She said: “I was getting through five or six racks of lamb a day and, in five days, all my local villages had run out. I had to drive to a neighbouring town to find food.”
AJ will be competing with the likes of Frankie Bridge, Gemma Collins and Spencer Matthews on the cooking show, and he is set to dance alongside Paralympic swimmer Lauren Steadman in the new series of ‘Strictly’.
He recently said: “I’m excited I’ve got Lauren, she’s a really inspirational person.”

She also thanked Tommy Hilfiger, whose daughter Elizabeth is a RISD grad, for making the event possible. Watch the Colin Kaepernick Nike Ad That Will Run During the NFL Season Opener

Former NFL star Colin Kaepernick has posted the first television commercial made as part of his new deal with Nike.

“If people say your dreams are crazy, if they laugh at what you think you can do, good,” says Kaepernick in a voiceover while footage of other Nike athletes, including Serena Williams and skateboarder Nyjah Huston, plays. “Stay that way. Because what non-believers fail to understand is that calling a dream crazy isn’t an insult. It’s a compliment.”

“So don’t ask if your dreams are crazy,” says Kaepernick at the end of the commercial – which went public Wednesday. “Ask if they’re crazy enough.”

The spot was posted just a couple days after Nike revealed that Kaepernick, who is at the center of a years-long fierce debate over free speech and athlete protests, is the face of the company’s newest ad campaign. That announcement brought cheers from some corners, while others who disagree with Kaepernick’s actions defaced their Nike gear in protest.

Kaepernick, then a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, ignited a firestorm in 2016 when he sat through the national anthem, and, in later games, knelt through it. A handful of other NFL players, many of whom are black, followed suit. The players involved have said they are protesting everything from police brutality to racial inequality more broadly.

Kaepernick, who opted out of his contract with the 49ers in 2016, has not played a professional football game ever since. He now contends that NFL team owners conspired to keep him off any roster in retaliation for his actions, and has filed a grievance that is moving from arbitration to trial.

Nike’s new ad featuring Colin Kaepernick will air during the 2018-19 NFL opening game featuring the Atlanta Falcons and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports.

The problem? During the fire, Verizon throttled the department’s “unlimited” data once it reached its limit.

As part of its emergency services, the department “relies upon Internet-based systems to provide crucial and time sensitive public safety services,” Fire Chief Anthony Bowden wrote in an addendum added this week to a lawsuit fighting to overturn the FCC’s net neutrality repeal.

Stress during pregnancy increases risk of mood disorders for female offspring

High maternal levels of the stress hormone cortisol during pregnancy increase anxious and depressive-like behaviors in female offspring at the age of 2, reports a new study. The effect of elevated maternal cortisol on the negative offspring behavior appeared to result from patterns of stronger communication between brain regions important for sensory and emotion processing. The findings emphasize the importance of prenatal conditions for susceptibility of later mental health problems in offspring.

[bs-title]The NFL pre-take-a-knee season is here[/bs-title][bs-content]Several players have already either taken a knee for, raised a fist during or sat out the national anthem entirely, a pretty clear sign that the quiet protests are not going to stop. The league recently suspended a policy barring these demonstrations, which are clearly designed to draw attention to racial injustice, particularly in the criminal justice system. “I just think it’s important to keep this conversation going, that we don’t let it get stagnant,” Eagles captain Malcolm Jenkins, told NFL.com. President Trump fired off two tweets in response. “Numerous players, from different teams, wanted to show their ‘outrage’ at something that most of them are unable to define. They make a fortune doing what they love,” he wrote.[/bs-content][bs-link link=”https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/09/sport/nfl-national-anthem-preseason-games/index.html” source=”CNN”]

[bs-title]The price we pay for rationalizing white supremacy[/bs-title][bs-content]Adam Serwer has done the Lord’s work in his latest piece for The Atlantic, first documenting the personal downfalls of many of the messier Unite the Right organizers since last year’s deadly rally. These clowns will never be able to truly launch a mass movement, he declares. But, he says, those individual consequences pale in comparison to the wreckage the infiltration of racist talking points in mainstream news has done to the Republican party. For one, average voters now see immigrants as invaders, not recruits. “White nationalists win by activating white panic, by frightening a sufficient number of white people into believing that their safety and livelihoods can only be protected by defining American citizenship in racial terms,” he says, a tactic as old as America itself. It gains traction “by convincing them that American politics is a zero-sum game in which white people only win when people of color lose.”[/bs-content][bs-link link=”https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/the-battle-that-erupted-in-charlottesville-is-far-from-over/567167/” source=”The Atlantic”]

[bs-title]Here’s why the Unite the Right anniversary rally is going to be in Washington DC instead of Charlottesville[/bs-title][bs-content]The answer is a mixed bag of legal protections, loopholes, and luck. White supremacist groups are prevented from re-rallying in Charlottesville because of a subsequent legal settlement based on Virginia’s “constitutional subordination clause,” which helped establish that the paramilitary “militia” groups who assembled last year far exceeded First Amendment protections. That precedent is giving beleaguered state managers hope to better control future rallies since all 50 states have similar language in their constitutions. But the District of Columbia is not a state and the rallies technically fall on federal land. The National Park Service issues the permits and is preparing a strategy with Park Police and local officials. “We’ve had those types of high-tension assemblies in the District before,” says D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham. “We 100 percent are going to make sure that groups remain separate.”[/bs-content][bs-link link=”https://www.citylab.com/equity/2018/08/stopping-white-supremacists-from-taking-over-an-american-city-again/566057/” source=”CityLab”]

But as a self-proclaimed schadenfreude expert, this is a twist I hadn’t seen before. Tania Singer, a neuroscientist and director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany is under fire for her terrifying workplace behavior. “Whenever anyone had a meeting with her there was at least an even chance they would come out in tears,” one colleague who insisted on anonymity. Her work has been vital to the field of social neuroscience, and she’s long been lauded for her vision and ability to generate support for complex projects -which is really why the story should sound familiar. At what price, success? “It appears the Max Planck Society decided it would rather sacrifice another generation of students than risk a scandal,” says one former colleague.[/bs-content][bs-link link=”http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/08/she-s-world-s-top-empathy-researcher-colleagues-say-she-bullied-and-intimidated-them” source=”Science”]

[bs-title]What hate looks like in school[/bs-title][bs-content]Education Week, along with nonprofit news organization ProPublica, analyzed three years of public news reports and self-reported incidents of hate and bias in K-12 schools in the U.S. The resulting project, Documenting Hate, is a grim look at the rise in hate speech in school settings, and the scramble to identify both reasons and solutions. Most incidents between January 2015 and December 2017 targeted black and Latino students, though plenty of Jewish and Muslim students were targeted as well. Most of the incidents were spoken or written hate speech incidents. The speech in question will shock but not surprise: the most common words involved the n-word, “build the wall” or “go back to Mexico”, and the most common hate symbol was the swastika. The largest number of reports on a single day was November 9, 2016–the day after Trump’s election. “I don’t think my classmates and teachers really grasp the pain we feel,” says one student.[/bs-content][bs-link link=”https://www.edweek.org/ew/projects/hate-in-schools.html” source=”Education Week”]

First, he puts him into the context of history, as the “alpha gangster of the moment.” In some ways, he’s aspirational. “He has taken lavish luxury and gangster greed to the highest level,” he begins. And yet, he falls short. After reviewing photos of the clothes, he says, “these are not the clothes…one would aspire to.” The price tag smacks of money laundering, he says. “People just don’t spend that kind of money in their clothing.” You’ll never look at plaid the same way, or ostrich clothing, for that matter. “An ostrich baseball style jacket. Where do you wear that when you’re Paul Manafort. Where do you go?”[/bs-content][bs-link link=”https://twitter.com/vicenews/status/1027600393591775232?s=20″ source=”Vice News”]

[bs-quote link=”http://www.publicseminar.org/2017/01/white-supremacy-fear-and-the-crises-of-legitimation/#.WG0SI2WCs4K” author =”Melvin Rogers”]In the wake of similar high-profile police shootings where wrongdoing seems so clear but goes unpunished, the Slager trial crystallizes what many believe — that police officers can kill black Americans with impunity. The greatest obstacle to freedom and equality thus appears to be a society in which citizens are habituated to recognize some among themselves as worthy of care, concern, and justice, while believing they can withhold these important moral goods from others. Black Americans thus find themselves living in a society in which they are asked to follow the law, and yet, are simultaneously unprotected by political and legal institutions. 3 Miami Dolphins Players Protest During National Anthem at First NFL Game of the Season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) —Kenny Stills kneeled in protest during the national anthem Thursday, and said he offered a prayer of thanks that he had a teammate’s support.Stills and two other Miami Dolphins renewed their protests before an exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, triggering yet another round of debate about the divisive NFL issue.

Receivers Stills and Albert Wilson kneeled behind teammates lined up standing along the sideline. Defensive end Robert Quinn stood and raised his right fist, as he did during the anthem last season with the Los Angeles Rams.

Stills said he didn’t coordinate with Wilson, who joined the Dolphins this season.

“It just happened that way,” Stills said. “When I’m on a knee, most of the time I’m praying, and thank God for having Albert next to me. Being a part of this protest hasn’t been easy. I thought I was going to be by myself out there. Today I had an angel with me with Albert being out there. I’m grateful he sees what’s happening, and he wants to do something about it as well.”

Stills kneeled during the anthem in the 2016-17 seasons and has been vocal discussing social injustice issues that inspired the protests by NFL players.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a leader of the movement, tweeted support for Stills and Wilson.

“My brother @kstills continued his protest of systemic oppression tonight by taking a knee,” the tweet said. “Albert Wilson joined him in protest. Stay strong brothers!”

Kaepernick and his former teammate Eric Reid, another protest leader, remain out of the NFL. Stills said both players were blackballed, and he talks with Kaepernick every week.

“I appreciate his loyalty and support,” Stills said. “I don’t see any reason he and Eric Reid shouldn’t be in the league.”

Wilson said he kneeled mindful of the death of an unarmed black motorist who was shot by police in 2016 near his hometown of Fort Pierce, Florida. Two officers were cleared by a grand jury in the case.

“Getting shot down and being murdered — the biggest thing in my city,” Wilson said. “For me to have so much love for my city and not do anything about it, I would be a coward. I’m with it every Sunday.”

Quinn said it’s slander to say he and kneeling players are protesting the flag.

“As a black man in this world, I’ve got an obligation to raise awareness,” he said. “If no one wants to live in unity, that’s why we’re in the situation we’re in.”

The league and the players’ union have yet to announce a policy for this season regarding demonstrations during the anthem after the league initially ordered everyone to stand on the sideline when “The Star-Spangled Banner” is played, or remain in the locker room. The Dolphins issued a statement before training camp saying all options regarding the team’s policy remain open.

“The NFL has been engaged in constructive discussions with the NFL Players Association regarding the anthem and issues of equality and social justice that are of concern to many Americans,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email. “While those discussions continue, the NFL has agreed to delay implementing or enforcing any club work rules that could result in players being disciplined for their conduct during the performance of the anthem.

“Meanwhile, there has been no change in the NFL’s policy regarding the national anthem. The anthem will continue to be played before every game, and all player and non-player personnel on the field at that time are expected to stand during the presentation of the flag and performance of the anthem. Personnel who do not wish to do so can choose to remain in the locker room.

“We remain committed to working with the players to identify solutions and to continue making progress on important social issues affecting our communities.”

There were no apparent demonstrations by the Buccaneers.

Why Are Mothers In America Dying During Childbirth?

The United States is the only industrialized country where the rates of maternal deaths have increased, instead of decreased. And “near deaths” are on the rise: 60,000 a year across the country, especially among black women. Serena Williams and Beyonce both recently spoke about their traumatic birth experiences, which shows that this issue is plaguing black women of all backgrounds. Erin Moriarty of 48 Hours investigates this issue.

Mortified Teen Refuses to Get Into the Groove With Dancing Adults During Their Jumbotron Moment

This teen was probably just hoping to have a casual evening at the ball game watching the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Monday night.

But instead he got a little more entertainment than he bargained for, in the form of the adults with him (presumably his parents) embarrassing him on the big screen in front of the whole stadium, thanks to their vivacious dance moves.

To the dulcet tones of Flo Rida‘s seminal hit “Low,” the woman on the teen’s right happily got into the groove, while the man to his left joined in with some joyful clapping. Unfortunately, sandwiched in the middle, the teen was not feeling it; he just kept his arms resolutely crossed the whole time, despite their best efforts get him into the dancing spirit as well.

And, as Twitter commenters have noted, “This mom embarrassing her son is the mom all moms should aspire to be.”

There was more, too: during DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean,” the cameras once again found the party. The teen even covered his eyes in mortification when his group was once again put up on the big screen. At this rate, he may try to snag seats far away from the dancing duo next time they make a trip to the baseball game.

New York Giants Co-Owner Says Players Who Kneel During National Anthem Will Not Be Penalized

Co-owner of the New York Giants, Steve Tisch, said last week that Giants players will not be punished for protesting during the national anthem.

Tisch, who is also a film and TV producer, told the Hollywood Reporter that “there is not going to be any punitive action taking place against them” if they decide to kneel or protest in other ways.

The NFL approved a policy in May to fine teams for players who kneel during the anthem. Players have the option of staying in the locker room while “The Star-Spangled Banner” is played, but if they are on the field they are required to stand.

Tisch called out President Donald Trump, who has been vocal in his criticism of players who take a knee, saying the president does not understand the protests.

“Hopefully he’ll have much more going on that he’s going have to deal with…than worrying about what NFL players do,” Tisch told The Hollywood Reporter. “He has no understanding of why they take a knee or why they’re protesting. When the new season starts, I hope his priorities are not criticizing the NFL and telling owners what to do and what not to do.”

The new NFL policy is now on hold, however, after it was reported on Saturday that a new Miami Dolphins team policy stated players could be suspended for up to four games if they decide to kneel on the field. The NFL and the players’ union are in talks trying to work out the issue. The organizations issued a joint statement, saying both sides “have been working on a resolution to the anthem issue. In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPA’s grievance and on the NFL’s anthem policy.”

Tisch may not get his wish for Trump to keep out of the conversation. The president tweeted his disdain for the talks between the NFL and the players union to come to a resolution on Saturday.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality against racial minorities.

Tisch said he supports his players if they decide to do so. “We support our players,” Tisch said. “They are not going to be punished.”

Dallas Cowboys Owner Won’t Support Players Who Stay in the Locker Room During the National Anthem

OXNARD, Calif. — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doubled down Wednesday on insisting that his players stand for the national anthem, declaring that he wouldn’t support anyone who chose to stay in the locker room.

Speaking at his annual news conference to open training camp in California, the outspoken billionaire became the first owner to say publicly that his players would not be allowed to stay off the field during the anthem.

“No,” Jones said when asked if he would support players staying in the locker room. “Our policy is that you stand at the anthem, toe on the line.”

Last week, the NFL and the players’ union agreed to suspend the rule approved by owners this spring that gave players the option of staying in the locker room while allowing teams to discipline players who took a knee or sat during the anthem.

The decision to begin negotiating on the issue came hours after The Associated Press reported that Miami Dolphins players who protested during the anthem could be suspended for up to four games under team policy.

Last season, Jones was the first owner to declare that he would bench a player for protesting during the anthem. Two of his players — defensive linemen David Irving and Damontre Moore — raised their fists briefly as “The Star Spangled Banner” ended but weren’t disciplined.

“I obviously wouldn’t dare speak for any of the other owners, much less in general about 31 other owners,” Jones said. “As far as the Dallas Cowboys are concerned, you know where I stand. Our team knows where I stand on the issue.”

The issue erupted in 2016 when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began protesting police brutality, social injustice and racial inequality by kneeling during the national anthem. The demonstration spread to other players and teams.

The NFL started requiring players to be on the field for the anthem in 2009, the year it signed a marketing deal with the military. Jones had already owned the Cowboys for 20 years when players moved from the locker room to the field for the anthem.

Jones said he understood the point of view of players who say they aren’t protesting the flag or the military.

“This is a case where we need to in my mind check that and be real clear that it is, the priority is about the flag, and be real clear about that,” Jones said. “Sometimes it’s best to just be real clear and succinct so that nobody misunderstands. I think that’s our case.”

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said the Cowboys don’t have an anthem issue because his father has made his stance clear from the beginning.

“I do understand when you see the back and forth,” Stephen Jones said. “But we’ve been consistent and we’ve never moved. Jerry’s never changed his stance once. I think he feels strongly about it.”

The younger Jones didn’t want to speak for the players when asked if Jerry Jones’ strong message is the reason none of his players have defied him.

“I was always brought up when you work for somebody and they’re the boss, you play by their rules,” Stephen Jones said.

Jones, who drew praise from President Donald Trump when he said last year that he would bench players, said Trump’s continuing involvement in the anthem issue is “problematic” for the league.

Trump weighed in again after news of the Dolphins’ policy broke, tweeting “The $ 40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand,” a reference to Roger Goodell.

“His interest in what we’re doing is problematic from my chair and I would say, in general, in the owner’s chairs,” Jerry Jones said. “And unprecedented if you really think about it. But like the very game itself, that’s the way it is and we’ll deal with it. But, yes, everybody would like for it to go away.”

Unlike other sports organizations, the Cowboys haven’t distanced themselves from Papa John’s after founder and CEO John Schnatter was ousted over a racial slur.

Schnatter was already under fire for suggesting last year that the pizza company’s sluggish sales were a result of the controversy surrounding the anthem.

Jerry Jones, who has had a close relationship with Schnatter, said the Cowboys couldn’t cut ties with the company because of an ownership stake in Papa John’s stores. Stephen Jones said the team was linked to 50 stores in the Dallas area.

“I regret that for John,” Jerry Jones said. “But at the end of the day we’ve got too many people, too many customers, too many people that we just need to do as good as we can do under the circumstances.”

NOTES: DE David Irving was placed on the “did not report” list after getting clearance from the Cowboys to deal with personal issues. Jerry Jones said he didn’t expect Irving to attend camp for the three weeks the Cowboys are in California. … DT Maliek Collins (foot) was placed on the physically unable to perform list, while S Kavon Frazier and DE Randy Gregory are on the non-football injury list. Gregory was recently reinstated from a yearlong ban for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.

Where to find the best weather during the summer

When you go on a summer vacation, you want the weather to be on your side. Depending on where you live, things can be a bit hit and miss with the temperature, and that’s the last thing you want at this time of year. Summer was made for warm days spent lounging in the sun, and that’s exactly what these destinations have on offer. If you need somewhere beautiful to escape to for your vacation this year, give these places a try.

Spain

We could rave about Spain all day. With perpetually hot weather that regularly hits highs of 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit, this exotic European destination has plenty of gorgeous beaches for you to spend your vacation on. Costa Brava, Gran Canaria and Majorca are all fantastic to visit in the summer months if you’re looking for a coastal break, though everywhere in the country has its perks. Plus, the Spanish people, in general, are all incredibly relaxed, so you’ll always have the perfect atmosphere for a vacation in the sun.

Australia

Although summer for us is winter in Australia, that doesn’t mean the island isn’t worth a visit at this time of year. The gold coast actually has some of the best weather around in July and August. The temperatures average 60 degrees Fahrenheit which will keep you warm without giving you heat exhaustion. Even though its winter there, the sun never really leaves Australia, so you don’t have to worry too much about being caught in the rain. What’s more, the country’s busy season isn’t until later on in the year, so you can beat the crowds on your vacation too.

Finland

Finland may be known for its cold weather, but during the summer, it can heat up quite a bit. Throughout the summer, the country reaches highs of 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so you won’t be catching a chill during your break. The country is usually quiet during the summer, especially in places like Helsinki, because many people are going on vacation too. However, there’s still plenty to do around the city. Helsinki is renowned for its design scene, as well as its array of innovative cuisine, so a visit to the Finnish capital will give you plenty to do for a week or fortnight away.

Tuscany

Tuscany offers some of the hottest temperatures in Europe throughout the summer months. They can reach as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is great for doing some wine tasting in one of their many vineyards. Nights in Tuscany are particularly exciting because they offer the most incredible stargazing opportunities. Clear skies are a regular thing in the country, so you’ll never have any problems looking up at the stars on a warm Tuscan night.

Croatia

Croatia has become a bit of a hotspot for summer vacations in recent years. The weather around this time of the year is always generous, with temperatures averaging around the high 70s/low 80s. With its long coastal stretch on the east of the country, Croatia is excellent for sunning yourself on the beach. However, there’s more to this European destination than just spending your time on the shores. With many cultural landmarks to explore in the country, as well as some of the surrounding islands, you can mix education with pleasure. Plus, in the evenings you can spend your time cooling off in Croatia’s trendiest bars.

Found your ideal summer vacation spot? Although you might have the odd day where the weather isn’t on your side, you shouldn’t run into too many troubles going for an extended break in these amazing countries.

Models are accusing a brand of discrimination during Miami Swim Week

Models are accusing a brand of discrimination during Miami Swim Week

Models are accusing a brand of discrimination during Miami Swim Week

The past few years have ushered in an age of diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry. More and more we’re seeing brands not only actively include models of different ethnicities in their campaigns and runway shows, but models with visible disabilities like diabetes and vitiligo. This is why it’s disheartening that fashion brand KYA Swim has been accused of discrimination during Miami Swim Week.

Cosmo was the first to report how model Joia Talbott claimed that 10-15 models were turned away from an audition solely because they were Black. She took to her Facebook to put the brand on blast, with America’s Next Top Model alum, Kacey Leggett, chiming in to say:

“I’m at a loss for words. I’m still trying to process what happened. All of us had to get out of the line – they told us they didn’t want any more Black models.”

It goes without saying that this is beyond unacceptable. Miami Swim Week was created to celebrate swimsuit season. For representatives of KYA Swim to say, “no dark skin,” as Talbott claims they did, is reprehensible.

Other models have also come forward with similar claims against KYA Swim during Miami Swim Week.

Posted by Macaroni Tony on Friday, July 13, 2018

This is extremely upsetting. We need to be doing better, fashion world.

As reported by Cosmo, KYA Swim released a statement on the issue, saying:

“Everyone at KYA Swim is deeply disturbed by the allegations brought by Joia Talbott and other models about the casting event at Miami Swim Week. KYA Swim is proud of its record of diversity and we are in the midst of looking into the events of last Thursday to review the actions of the production company in charge of the casting call.”

It’s possible that someone without the authority to do so made this call. Regardless, it’s not a good look for KYA Swim.

According to KYA Swim’s social media, it looks like they did hire a black woman for the show.

We uncertain if this decision predated the controversy or if KYA Swim hired her as a result of the bad press. Hopefully, incidents like this won’t happen again anytime soon.

Coldest places to visit during the summer

Not a fan of hot weather? While many people love it when the sun comes out and things start to warm up again, plenty of us yearn for the colder days of winter. We don’t all cope well in the heat, so it’s understandable why some people aren’t a fan of the summer months. Luckily, if you’re someone that doesn’t enjoy scorching themselves under the sun, there are plenty of places you can visit to cool off. Not everywhere in the world is burning hot in July and August. Some countries can actually get pretty chilly at this time of year.

Greenland

Don’t be fooled by the name. Greenland is definitely the place to go if you’re looking for a cold summer. Thanks to it’s Arctic climate, temperatures rarely exceed 50 degrees Fahrenheit, although that’s on its warmest days. More often than not it falls much lower than that.

The cold temperatures mean that most of the country is covered in snow and ice throughout the year. However, during the summer you can actually find plenty of green expanses against the white backdrop. If you’re someone who enjoys hiking but hates doing it in the summer heat, Greenland is the place for you. You’ll be blown away by the sights on offer here.

Argentina

One of the countries that’s great for ski lovers during the summer is Argentina. While most places lose their snow by the time July and August come around, this South American escape always has enough for you to enjoy during the hottest time of the year. Patagonia is the ideal vacation spot in Argentina, where the temperature rarely gets above the 50s.

Skiers don’t have to worry about using indoor centers to get their fill of the slopes during the summer, because the Cerro Castor resort has everything you could need all year round. If you want to do more than just than just ski, or you’re not the biggest fan of the sport, you can always visit the Castorera or the Chico river waterfall instead. There’s so much to see in Argentina that you shouldn’t get bored.

New Zealand

Due to its location in the southern hemisphere, what is summer to us is actually winter in New Zealand. It shouldn’t be a surprise then that the country is worth a visit around July and August if you’re looking for somewhere to cool off. The island isn’t so busy during these months, but it’s still bustling with activity.

You can enjoy some of New Zealand’s finest vineyards or explore the scenic countryside without having to sweat under the heat of the sun. It’s like the perfect summer destination, but without the warm weather that makes so many of us irritable and stressed. Besides, who doesn’t like the odd drink or two when they’re on vacation? You’re allowed to have some fun when you’re not at home.

Iceland

Summer days in Iceland can get pretty cold if you’re lucky. As with these other countries, temperatures tend to hang around the 50 degrees mark, which is pretty ideal for a lovely, relaxing summer.

Despite its name, you can expect to find more to see in the country than just ice. While there are still glaciers around to remind you of where you are, there are plenty of other natural sights to explore too. Iceland is home to some of the best views a photographer can find, so if you like to get snap happy, this chilled destination should be your next vacation spot.

Summer doesn’t have to be all about melting away in the sun. If you want to get away from the heat, even if it’s just a week or two, there are plenty of cold places you can jet off to for a cool down. Just remember that it might still be a bit too warm when it’s time to come home again.

Bryan Cranston Used to Pull the Most Walter White Prank on Aaron Paul During Breaking Bad

Not only did Aaron Paul dress his baby daughter up in a mini hazmat suit for Breaking Bad‘s 10th-anniversary panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, but he also regaled fans with a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from the award-winning drama.

After explaining that showrunner Vince Gilligan had told him that the writers originally planned to kill off Jesse at the end of season one, Paul revealed that co-star Bryan Cranston frequently used this information to convince him his character was done for.

“He came up to me the first time he did it and just gives me a really long, exaggerated hug. He’s just not letting me go [and I’m like], ‘What’s going on?’” Paul said. “He’s like, ‘Hey, man, it’s been a fun ride.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He’s like, ‘I thought you read the script, right?’ [I was like,] ‘No.’ He’s like, ‘Oh,’ and then he just walks away. And I run into the production office, and I’m like, ‘Where’s the script?!’ And they’re like, ‘It’s not available yet,’ and I’m like, ‘Please, god, tell me.’ And then I read it and I was alive still.”

11 People Dead After a Duck Boat Capsized During a Severe Thunderstorm on Missouri Lake

Eleven people, including children, have died and a number of passengers remain missing after a duck boat capsized during a thunderstorm that ravaged Table Rock Lake in Missouri on Thursday.

About 31 people were on a Ride the Ducks boat in the Ozarks when strong winds caused it to capsize, Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said in a press conference broadcast by KY3.

Rader said seven people were transported to the hospital with injuries and added that the recovery and rescue mission would continue throughout the night with teams of divers. It is not clear how many people remain missing.

He said he believed the boat turned over and sunk due to the stormy weather at about 8 p.m. ET with the thunderstorm winds as high as 60 mph, according to NBC News. The duck boat remains at the bottom of the lake.

Rader added that an off-duty sheriff’s deputy was on the boat and helped rescue people.

The Table Rock Lake Twitter page tweeted it was “aware of a major incident that happened tonight” at the lake “and ask that you pray for those involved as well as law enforcement/first responders.”

In a video captured and shared on Facebook by Jeanie Phillips-Hudson Carr, two duck boats are seen struggling to reach land while a thunderstorm raged on.

One duck boat is seen gaining speed in the lake as it appears to make headway toward land, while the other remains left behind and struggling to remain upright against ferocious winds.

Toward the end of the video, the second boat is seen slowly turning on its side and sinking into the water as shocked bystanders watch from the Branson Belle, a showboat that helped rescue people, according to the Springfield News-Leader.

In a second video posted by Phillips-Hudson Carr, workers on the showboat can be heard desperately calling for rope and help to try to rescue the stricken amphibious boat.

“We are at Branson and on the showboat! A storm came in as we got on and there was 2 ducks that you ride out there and 1 went under. Not sure if everyone on it is ok,” Phillips-Hudson Carr wrote.

In audio obtained by the News-Leader, a dispatcher tells first responders people aboard the Branson Belle were pulling victims out of the water.

“We have a report of a duck that has sank completely,” the dispatcher said. “They have lost sight of it. About 10 people have surfaced, but there were about 20 people on board.”

“They are attempting to pull people out on the Belle and the surrounding dock,” the dispatcher continued. “We have CPR in progress on one. One more they can see, face down in the water. They’re trying to get to at this time.”

A first responder could be heard telling the dispatcher, “Copy that. If you would, go ahead and notify Mercy. Tell’ em to send every truck they’ve got.”

The duck boat was part of Ride the Duck in Branson, Missouri, a fleet which was bought last year by Ripley Entertainment, the company that owns Ripley’s Believe It or Not.

Suzanne Smagala-Potts, a spokeswoman for the company tells PEOPLE they are aware of the situation.

“Number one, our priority is the families and employees, and that’s what we’re focusing on. We are in contact with authorities but we do not have enough information at this time to confirm anything,” Smagala-Potts says.

According to the company’s website, Ride the Ducks is a guided amphibious tour for both land and water that lasts 70 minutes.

Miami Dolphins to Discipline Players Who Protest During National Anthem With Fines, Suspensions or Both

Miami Dolphins players who protest on the field during the national anthem could be suspended for up to four games under a team policy issued this week.

The “Proper Anthem Conduct” section is just one sentence in a nine-page discipline document provided to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the policy who insisted on anonymity because the document is not public. It classifies anthem protests under a large list of “conduct detrimental to the club,” all of which could lead to a paid or unpaid suspension, a fine or both.

Miami’s anthem policy comes after the NFL decided in May that teams would be fined if players didn’t stand during “The Star-Spangled Banner” while on the field. The league left it up to teams on how to punish players. None of the team policies have been made public.

The NFL rule forbids players from sitting or taking a knee if they are on the field or sidelines during the national anthem, but allows them to stay in the locker room if they wish. The new league rules were challenged this month in a grievance by the players union.

The NFL declined to comment. Team officials had no immediate comment.

MLB Pitcher Apologizes After Racist and Homophobic Tweets Surface During All-Star Game

A pitcher’s Major League Baseball All-Star debut was tainted Tuesday night as years-old racist, homophobic and sexist tweets from his account surfaced and started to trend on Twitter during the game.

Immediately afterwards, Josh Hader, a 24-year-old Milwaukee Brewers pitcher, apologized and told reporters he was “young, immature and stupid” when he posted the tweets.

“There’s no excuse for what was said, and, you know, I’m deeply sorry for what I’ve said and what’s been going on,” he said. “It doesn’t reflect any of my beliefs going on now.”

The tweets, many of them from seven years ago when Hader was 17, spurred controversy and uproar from MLB fans and viewers during the All-Star game.

Hader’s Twitter account did not appear to be active Wednesday morning. According to screenshots shared by numerous Twitter users, Hader posted tweets in 2011 that included racist, sexist and homophobic slurs – including one that read “white power.”

Months after posting the tweets, Hader was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2012 MLB draft. He joined the Brewers in 2015.

“I assume when you’re a kid you just tweet what’s on your mind,” Hader said Tuesday night.

Hader gave up a 3-run home run during his appearance in the All-Star game, which helped the American League defeat Hader’s National League team 8-6.

The MLB has not yet released a statement regarding the situation, but Dan Halem, the league’s chief legal officer, said baseball officials may consider commenting later this week, according to the Los Angeles Times. Hader told reporters after the MLB All-Star game he is willing to accept any punishment that comes as a result of the tweets.

As the controversy unraveled during the game, fans wearing shirts with Hader’s name reportedly turned them inside out and officials gave members of his family wearing his jersey generic ones, according to Yahoo Sports.

Hader’s racist tweets are just the latest to raise questions about whether young athletes should be held responsible for their behavior on social media in the past. With the internet, the racist, homophobic, sexist or offensive thoughts of a teenager can be resurfaced years later. Earlier this year, a number of tweets with racist language from top NFL draft pic Josh Allen emerged, according to Yahoo Sports.

Allen, who drafted to the Buffalo Bills, had a similar excuse for the tweets. The 22-year-old told ESPN he was “young and dumb” when he posted the tweets several years ago in high school.

Beyonce And Jay Z Take Gorgeous Pics Alongside Blue Ivy, During Mini Break From Their Tour

Beyonce and Jay Z have been very busy while on their joint On the Run II world tour, but they found some free time during which they could just relax with the family. Beyonce took to her social media of choice, Instagram, to share a few fantastic photos featuring her at the seaside alongside her rapper hubby and six year old daughter Blue Ivy.

One snap was of the married power couple posing on some stone steps and even though the photos were supposed to be casual and personal ones from their mini vacation, they still looked like superstars.

Queen Bey stunned in a colorful dress while Jay Z wore a polo shirt and a pair of black pants.

As to create ambiance and to give a little but more personality to the photo, Beyonce took her white heels off and placed them near a Corona bottle.

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

But that was not their only snap. In the slideshow, there was also one that featured the family on the dock of a boatyard.

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

The infant twins, Rumi and Sir, were nowhere to be seen during the family photo shoot but Blue Ivy definitely was!

The photos were not accompanied by any captions but we have heard that Beyonce and Jay Z were invited to the wedding of Elon Musk’s brother, Kimbal Musk, in Spain so that might be where they were when they took the pics.

The star studded ceremony was a way for the couple to distress as they are currently on their European leg of their tour and these sort of things can be really tiring and stressful.

Not to mention that their latest date did not even go smoothly. Beyonce remained stranded on a flying stage when it malfunctioned, and staff had to bring a ladder just to get her down.

Omari Hardwick Turns the Tables Spotlighting Young Black Man During Award Acceptance Speech

There was no lack of events this past weekend during BET Experience. Icon Talks held up its side of the bargain by honoring black men who are making major moves in the entertainment industry. The organization partnered with the Motion Picture Association of America to host its annual celebration and this year’s event was filled with heartfelt speeches and awards presented to Harry Belafonte, Robert Townsend, Omari Hardwick, Quincy Brown, Kevin Forston, and Roc Nation’s Lenny Santiago.

When accepting his award, Omari Hardwick decided to turn the spotlight from himself to someone else. A young man approached him on the red carpet right before the show, hugged him, and said, “Man, you saved me, you saved me. I was like a broke kid in Maryland. Sunday nights just watching your character, I could see your character in that character.”

Hardwick was so moved by the man that he brought him on stage to revisit the interaction. “I thought man, all I ever wanted to do was tell stories,” said Hardwick, as the man stood next to him with tears streaming from his eyes. “It’s amazing to be able to tell stories and make money doing it, but you tell stories and…you affect so many people. My father used to say, you never know who’s looking at you.”

The awards ceremony took place at the SLS Beverly Hills and it is clear that the mission of this organization is working. “Icon Talks will continue to pay homage to our modern image-makers—both in front of the camera and behind the scenes,” said John Burns, co-founder of Icon Talks. “This past year has been an exceptional push for diversity in film and television, and with the incredible contributions of our honorees, it is fitting that we celebrated the future of entertainment and its continued steps on the path to inclusion.”

Icon Talks was generously sponsored by the Motion Picture Association of America, AT&T, Planned Parenthood, Ciroc, and Porsche Cars North America.

Melania Trump Wears Jacket Saying ‘I Really Don’t Care’ During Child Detention Center Trip

First Lady Melania Trump visited a Texas detention center Thursday to check in on immigrant children who have been separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

After the White House announced its “zero-tolerance” policy in April, over 2,000 children have been separated from their parents. Trump decided to make the trip a day after the president signed an executive order to stop the separation of families, but it’s not her timing people are questioning–it’s her fashion choice.

When boarding the plane in Maryland, Trump was spotted wearing a khaki green jacket with the words “I really don’t care, do you?” scrawled in white graffiti-style writing on the back. Trump removed the jacket before deplaning, but the internet had already latched onto this paradoxical clothing choice, some finding it hard to believe.

Others compared the event to the 2014 incident when then-President Barack Obama was bashed for wearing a tan suit, or the time in 2009 when conservatives criticized Michelle Obama for wearing a dress than exposed her bare arms.

“It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message,” said Melania Trump’s publicist, insisting reporters instead focus on the First Lady’s detention center visit.

Trump toured the facilities of the Upbring New Hope Children’s Center in McAllen, Tex. and participated in a roundtable discussion with staff members. She inquired about the children’s physical and mental care. When she asked how often children are allowed to speak to their families, she was told children with verified families get a 10-minute phone conversation twice a week.

“We all know they are here without their families and I want to thank you for your hard work, your compassion, and your kindness you are giving to them in these difficult times,” Trump told the staff members.

This visit was an attempt to lend support to those caring for the immigrant children, although Trump did not make a public statement about the plight of separated families until this past Sunday. While the visit shows Trump is making an effort to be involved with the care of the children, her jacket choice sent a confusing message.

Get The Strap: 21 Savage Pulls Out Gun During Pool Party [VIDEO]

Post Malone In Concert - Sterling Heights, MI

Source: Scott Legato / Getty

Apparently, 21 Savage is packing, even at pool parties. The “Bank Account” rapper was caught on video pulling out a gun during a brawl to let heads know he is clearly ’bout that life.

In the clip, someone is seen getting knocked the f*ck out at a Georgie pool party. While dude is slumped on the ground, recovering from the fade, you can see 21 Savage looking toward the perpetrator(s), holding a pistol in his right hand.

However, it would seem that 21 Savage was preparing for the smoke instead of initiating it.

Reports TMZ:

Savage was partying it up Saturday at an annual rager in the Atlanta area called “Big Ass Pool Party,” when a large group of people crashed the event through the back.

Eyewitnesses tell us Sav appeared uneasy at the unexpected entrance, and that all hell broke loose when a person from the other camp said hi to a girl in Savage’s circle, upsetting his side. We’re told someone from the crashers’ crew pulled out a gun when confronted, which led to Savage arming himself, too. It appears he receives a revolver from a friend.

We’re told no shots were fired during the altercation, but someone from the invading group was hit to the ground. Cops eventually shut things down — no word on any arrests.

Since part of this was caught on video, expect the cops to ask 21 a whole lot of questions.

Someone has gotta remind 21 Savage he has weed carriers and baggage handlers now who should be on the frontlines—he’s got too much to lose.

Janet Jackson Calls Police On Estranged Husband During Visit With Son

Even Janet Jackson isn’t immune to problems with her baby daddy. While her estranged husband, Wissam Al-Mana was in Los Angeles visiting with their son, Eissa, Jackson called police to do a welfare check on him, reportedly because a nanny reported some troubling behavior on Al-Mana’s part. Al-Mana and the child were at Malibu’s Nobu Hotel. TMZ first reported on the story.

People.com reports:

Jackson called authorities around 10 p.m. PT on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Malibu Lost Hill’s Sheriff’s Station said.

“Deputies were there [and] called to the scene. They decided the child was okay and they left,” the spokesperson told PEOPLE.

Jackson, 52, was not at the hotel at the time, authorities confirmed.

The pop star’s brother Randy Jackson told Entertainment Tonight — which first reported the news on Sunday — that Jackson was concerned after their nanny grew “terrified” by Al Mana’s behavior and “locked herself in a bathroom, so she could contact Janet.”

Janet Jackson has made no comment.

The NFL Is Reportedly Considering Penalties For Players Who Kneel During the National Anthem

The NFL is reportedly considering punishing players who kneel in protest of police brutality during the national anthem ahead of games.

At a Tuesday meeting in Atlanta, NFL owners weighed the possibility of introducing 15-yard penalties for players who kneel during the anthem, Sports Illustrated reports. As part of the rule, home teams can decide whether both teams will come out of the locker room during the national anthem — penalties can be handed out for any player that kneels.

Several NFL players have taken a knee during the national anthem over the last two seasons as part of an effort to raise awareness of police brutality and racial inequality. Colin Kaepernick, known for kicking off the protest in 2016, has sued the NFL along with Eric Reid, saying league teams have worked together to keep the players unsigned. Both are currently free agents.

Kaepernick’s kneeling prompted many other players to kneel over the 2016 and 2017 football seasons. The national anthem protests ramped up significantly during the 2017 season, after President Donald Trump slammed players who kneeled, calling anyone who did so a “son of a bitch” who deserved to be fired.

Police Suspend Officer After 65-Year-Old Woman Dragged From Car During Traffic Stop

The police department in Alpharetta, Georgia have suspended an officer and opened an internal investigation regarding a May 4 traffic stop where a 65-year-old grandmother was pulled from her car.

“I just panicked. I felt like my heart exploded,” Rose Campbell told WSB-TV. “I didn’t expect that in America. I didn’t expect that in Atlanta. I didn’t expect that especially in Alpharetta.”

In the full dash cam video posted by the police department on YouTube, Public Safety Chief John Robison begins by promising “a decisive and appropriate outcome.”

“There are aspects of this video that do not represent who we are as an organization,” Robison says.

According to the police, Campbell was pulled over by officer Michael Swerdlove after she swerved into a second lane while turning, almost causing a collision. Swerdlove is seen approaching the vehicle and then attempts to warrant a citation for the incident. Campbell refused to sign the ticket because she believed it would be an admission of guilt–and that is when things quickly escalated.

“He told me he was giving me a citation for failure to maintain lane.  I said for what?  Everybody does that when a cop gives you a ticket, unless you’re wrong, you’re gonna ask why,” she said.

Swerdlove told her that if she refused to sign the citation she would be arrested. Campbell then attempts to ask for a supervisor, but the officer demands that she gets out of the car to attempt an arrest. Swerdlove is then shown opening Campbell’s door and begins to pull her out.

“No sir, this is abusive behavior,” Campbell can be heard saying at one point in the video. “I’m being abused, I need the supervisor now!” she continues.

As a second cop approaches the car, Campbell continues asking for the supervisor. The cop continues to tug on her, while the second officer begins to attempt to pull her out of the car.

A third officer named James Legg approaches on the passenger’s side, but then walks around to the other two officers who are still pulling on Campbell to get out the car.

As Campbell agrees to get out of the car, Legg walks around to the driver’s side and begins cursing at the woman.

“Hey, you’re not in charge! Shut the f— up and get out the car!” Legg yells at Campbell. Campbell, who is diabetic says she was terrified as they attempted to arrest her.

Legg was suspended as a result of the investigation. Campbell has hired an attorney, but has yet to decide if she wants to take legal action. What she wants is an apology, she told WSB.

“They need to be put on suspension, disciplinary action without pay.  That normally works in the brain,” Campbell said.  “I don’t like the issue of firing people.  I think everyone has a space for redemption.”

Ken Jeong Jumps Offstage to Help a Woman Suffering From a Seizure During His Comedy Show

Dr. Ken saves the day — for real.

Worlds collided for doctor-turned-actor Ken Jeong when a woman at his Saturday stand-up comedy show in Phoenix, Arizona, had a health scare.

According to TMZ, a woman in the third row suffered a seizure near the beginning of Jeong’s set. Although Jeong first thought the commotion was due to heckling from the crowd, he soon realized that it was a real emergency and dropped off the stage to help her, TMZ reported.

He couldn’t see what was going on with the lights,” audience member Heather Holmberg told USA Today. “He was playing with them from the stage for a second, and it was like, ‘No, no, no. We need you!’ He realized there was an issue, and he came over. It was a moment where time stands still. Someone was having a crisis. There was a hush over the room.”

The 48-year-old comedian assisted the woman until an ambulance arrived and took her to the hospital, the outlet reported. He then got back on stage to continue his routine, but not before the crowd thanked him with a round of applause.

Jeong’s rep also confirmed the incident to USA Today.

Holmberg also reflected on Jeong’s heroic act on Twitter.

“A woman had a medical emergency during the show. Ken thinks its heckling, when people are asking for his help. He jumps off stage to assist. An EMT helped, too,” she wrote. “Then on with the show! Great night! He is gracious and grateful…AND flipping funny!”

Jeong earned a medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and is still a licensed physician.

“I was so intense as a doctor, and I was always stressed out, patients were surprised I did stand-up comedy on the side,” told critics at ABC’s summer press tour in 2015.

His experience in the medical field has transitioned to some of his acting roles, starring in the short-lived ABC sitcom Dr. Ken and playing a doctor in the 2007 film Knocked Up.

Vince Staples Goes off on R.Kelly During Coachella Interview

During a post-Coachella performance interview with “Everyday Struggle’s” Nadeska Alexis, Compton rapper Vince Staples didn’t hold back when it came to his opinion on accused child molester R.Kelly.

Staples started out the interview by mocking the livestreamed segment and reading from Alexis’ teleprompter revealing he wouldn’t be sticking to typical PR points. Then taking a weird turn to focus on Kelly, Staples slammed the singer by calling him a “child molester” and a “piece of f*cking sh*t.” Staples stated, “I’ve got one more year on probation. When my last year of probation is over, I’m breaking speed limits — I’m doing wild sh*t.” Despite a noticeably uncomfortable Alexis, Staples continued, “You don’t go to prison if you’re a black entertainer. Only if you’re a black gangster rapper. I’m changing my whole path.”

Staples went on to elaborate:

“Think about it: R. Kelly never went to jail, and he’s a f*cking child molester. He’s a child molester and he pees on people and he can’t read and write, and he didn’t go to jail. I’m a good person — R. Kelly’s a piece of f*cking sh*t. So, if piece of f*cking shit R. Kelly didn’t go to jail for being a child molester and peeing on people and having a human trafficking ring in Atlanta, then I’ll be alright.”

During the interview, Alexis pushed back on Staples’ responses and said that their talk would “get her fired.” But Staples continued, “Because R. Kelly a piece of sh*t? He don’t work here. They should have booked R. Kelly if they like R. Kelly so much. He would have pissed on somebody in the crowd. Because he pees on people.”

Check out Staples’ entire interview above which includes his thoughts on his infamous GoFundMe campaign and claims of Def Jam dropping Lil Durk.

Tristan Thompson Booed During Baskeball Game Amid Cheating Scandal

Not the warmest welcome. Tristan Thompson wasn’t exactly well received during his last basketball game of the season before playoffs on Wednesday, April 11, after he cheated on girlfriend Khloé Kardashian.

The Cleveland Cavaliers player, 27, was booed and jeered by attendees as his team went head-to-head against the New York Knicks at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Thompson’s name wasn’t announced when he came into the game in the first quarter, but as soon as his face was shown on the big screen there were audible boos. “Everyone in the stadium could hear it,” an attendee tells Us. “Tristan must have heard, but didn’t change his expression.”

One fan was also shown in a photo on social media holding up a “We Love Khloe” sign.

Thompson made headlines on Tuesday, April 10, after the Daily Mail published photos of him locking lips with a mystery brunette, who Twitter users identified as Lani Blair, at a NYC club on Saturday, April 7. The pair were photographed arriving at NYC’s Four Seasons hotel together in the early hours of Sunday, April 8, and she left the following day with a Louis Vuitton overnight bag.

A source exclusively told Us Weekly that Kardashian, 33, was blindsided upon discovering that Thompson, with whom she is expecting a daughter, had been unfaithful. “Khloé was at their home in Cleveland when she found out. She is shell-shocked and beside herself,” an insider said of the nine-month-pregnant reality star, who is “in total disbelief.”

Another pal close to the Revenge Body host added: “Khloé knew going into it that Tristan was an NBA player who would be on the road and facing lots of temptations. She heard the noise and knew what that was all about, but she felt that Tristan was different. They were always FaceTiming and in constant communication. He made her feel on top of the world and unlike any man she has been with. She trusted him.”

Us broke the news in September 2017 that the E! personality and Thompson are expecting their first child. She confirmed the news three months later and revealed the baby’s sex in March.

Should hair be growing around my nipples? 4 things every teen girl should know about hair growth during puberty

Should hair be growing around my nipples? 4 things every teen girl should know about hair growth during puberty

Should hair be growing around my nipples? 4 things every teen girl should know about hair growth during puberty

When you’re going through puberty, a lot is happening with your body. Your hormones throw off your emotional mojo, your breasts are growing, and all of the sudden, hair is everywhere. And thanks to mom, sex ed, or your doctor, you may be well-informed about the basics of hair growth during puberty.

But what if you notice something seemingly uncommon — like hair growth around nipples. Is this normal? Or what if your hair down there begins creeping up your navel? You might still have a lot of questions that you find too embarrassing to bring up with an adult. So, to help, we did the asking for you.

We talked to board certified obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Felice Gersh about the unfamiliar world of hair growth during puberty and compiled a list of hairy facts that every teen girl should know to ease puberty jitters.

Even though it can be embarrassing to talk about, it’s really important that you ask your doctor puberty-related questions. That’s what they’re there for, after all! And besides, puberty is something we all go through, so chances are, you’re not the first person to ask.

But, for now, let’s dive into some of the basic questions you may have about hair popping up all over.

1. A small amount of breast hair is completely normal.

Just like our arms, legs, and pretty much our entire body, our breasts and nipples have hair follicles within the skin. Dr. Gersh told HelloGiggles,

“There can normally be a few scattered hairs around the nipples, which some don’t recognize as within normal limits. Concern over excessive hair should always be checked out.”

According to Columbia University’s Go Ask Alice! forum, excess female nipple or breast hair can be a symptom of hormonal fluctuation or even an overproduction of male-linked hormones. Excess hair growth can also be a warning sign of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Cushing’s Syndrome, or a thyroid problem. So, as Dr. Gersh noted, if you’re concerned about the amount of breast hair around your nipples, make an appointment with your doctor to get things checked out.

But, if there are just a few hairs here and there around your nipples, Dr. Gersh says plucking them or trimming them short is perfectly fine.

2. Hello, armpit and leg hair.

“Adults’ sexual hair in females is also axillary (under the arms), and of course there is darker and thicker hair growth on the legs,” Dr. Gersh told us, but you may have already found that out for yourself.

Armpit and leg hair may be the most embarrassing hair to emerge from puberty solely because it’s the only hair growth that gets exposed to the public, and your peers. But armpit and leg hair isn’t something you should ever be ashamed of. Some women even flaunt it by growing their armpit hair long and dying it funky colors:

#gazon #dyedarmpits #pourquoipas

A post shared by @ laramatredelogre on

If you wish to remove your armpit or leg hair, shaving is probably the best option. Dr. Gersh recommends to “generously moisturize the skin before and after shaving and use a high quality razor.”

3. And hello to you too, pubic hair.

At the beginning of puberty, you’ll notice that hair will start to grow around your genital region. This is pubic hair and it will turn into a full bush soon enough.

Dr. Gersh said that pubic hair usually covers, “all of the labia majora to the inner surface of the thighs and up to the pubic bone-roughly shaped like a triangle.”

If you begin to notice that your pubic hair is growing upwards towards the navel and/or further downwards, reaching the front of the thighs, you should call your doctor. Too much pubic hair could be a sign that your body is producing too much of the male sex hormone Androgen. An influx of pubic hair can also be a symptom of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), so it’s important to recognize the warning signs and get checked out to make sure everything is copasetic.

4. Some hair growth is not normal for puberty.

Don’t be so quick to use puberty as an excuse for all the hair growth you begin to notice. Dr. Gersh told us that there shouldn’t be any hair growth going on on the face, back, or chest, “though some ethnic groups do have some mild facial hair on women.”

If hair pops up where it shouldn’t, get to your doctor’s office to see what’s going on. It could be nothing, or it could be a sign that your hormones aren’t doing what they should be doing. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Armpit, leg, and pubic hair is natural and totally normal. There’s nothing wrong with keeping it around if you aren’t keen with a razor, or if you just want be au naturale. And remember, don’t hesitate to approach your doctor with any questions you may have about things going on with your body.

Hillary Clinton Fractures her Wrist After Tripping During Her Visit to India: Report

Hillary Clinton‘s visit to India isn’t going as smoothly as she’d probably hoped.

The former Secretary of State sought medical attention during her visit to the Indian city of Jodhpur on Tuesday, according to The Times of India.

An unnamed doctor told the publication Clinton, 70, “was taken to the hospital in the morning where we administered CT Scan and X-Ray of her hand, which showed that she had a minor fracture in her right wrist.”

A spokesperson for Clinton did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Deccan Herald reported Clinton was advised to rest by doctors in Jodhpur. Anand Goyal, who owns Goyal Hospital in the city, told the publication the hospital was called to the Umaid Bhawan Palace where Clinton was staying.

“We were requested to send a team of doctors and hot bandage to the hotel after Hillary complained of pain in her hand,” Goyal said.

Clinton was seen falling twice on the steps of a mosque, according to DNA India. The outlet reported she had also fallen in a bathtub while in Jodhpur on Tuesday afternoon, reportedly leading to her fractured wrist.

Within her itinerary, Clinton was scheduled to visit a historic fort at the Mehrangarh Museum in Jodhpur but an employee told the Deccan Herald it was canceled due to her injury.

This isn’t the first time Clinton has had health troubles. In September 2016, she canceled plans to visit California during her presidential campaign after she was diagnosed with pneumonia.

In December 2012, she suffered a concussion after fainting in her home. The State Department released a statement at the time saying she had been ill from a stomach virus and became dehydrated leading to her loss of consciousness.

She was hospitalized in January 2013 due to a “potentially serious” blood clot that was discovered during a follow-up exam related to her concussion, according to The New York Times. She spent several days at New York Presbyterian Hospital being treated with blood thinners and proper hydration, according to the publication.

I was weight-shamed by a nurse during my pregnancy

by

Maggie Downs

posted in Life

I was about 26 weeks along in my healthy pregnancy and at the doctor’s office for a routine appointment when the nurse practitioner said she had something serious to discuss with me.

I was splayed out on the bed in the exam room, my profound belly pointed to the ceiling, my legs slightly akimbo. A vulnerable position, physically but emotionally as well. Every visit to the doctor is a leap of faith, a wish made, a hope for the best.

I had no idea what the nurse was about to say. My baby was moving and kicking with regularity. I was eating well and felt terrific. In fact, I had biked to the doctor’s office for that very visit. Everything seemed normal.

Pregnant woman sitting on the ground with a round belly near some cacti

“You’ve gained some weight,” she said.

“Yes, I have,” I said.

“Well, you’ve gained weight,” the nurse repeated.

“And …?”

“You should watch it,” she said. “You did so well over the holidays and didn’t gain anything, but now you’re gaining weight again.”

I pointed out that I was growing another body in mine. Weight happens.

That’s when the conversation went from mild concern and made a sharp detour toward condescending.

“You know, if I have a big dinner, the next day I run five miles to burn it off,” the nurse said. “It’s not that hard.”

“I understand how calories work,” I said.

“Clearly you don’t,” she replied.

A pregnant woman holds a falcon in one hand during a falconry class outside

What the nurse didn’t realize was that I am intimately acquainted with calories — and I have been ever since age 5, when my mom started charting my weekly weigh-ins. A piece of notebook paper with a homemade chart hung on the back of the bathroom door, and every Monday my mom watched as I stepped on the scale. She then recorded my weight on the paper.

My late mom was seriously misguided but had good intentions, I think. My mom struggled as an adult to maintain a certain body type, and I imagine she wanted me to have an easier time of it. So she gave me Tab to drink instead of milk and urged me to eat the “skinny” menu items at restaurants, rather than the normal entrees. I’ve owned so many nutrition guides over the years, I can rattle off the calories for practically anything.

What the nurse practitioner also didn’t know was that when I got pregnant, I declared my independence from the scale. For the first time in decades, I decided I didn’t need to be obsessive about my weight, and more importantly, it wasn’t healthy to focus on that when I had other things happening in my body.

I knew I would be gaining weight — what did the numbers matter?

A pregnant belly in a grey and white stretchy dress

So I stopped looking. (That goes for doctor visits too. During the weigh-in, I made it clear that I didn’t want to know my weight— so a nurse recorded the number while I read posters on the wall about HPV.)

“You know you’re just going to have more weight to lose later,” the nurse practitioner added during that weight-shaming visit.

But the thing is, I didn’t care. Pregnancy was the first time in my adult life that I truly felt in tune with my body, and I listened to it. I ate what I craved. I exercised because it felt good. I took up space in the world, and I was proud to have a big, juicy belly.

To this day, I still don’t know how substantial my weight gain was or why the nurse practitioner found it problematic that particular week. I don’t think it was more than a few pounds, because my doctor never spoke to me about it, none of the other nurses ever said a word, and my pregnancy proceeded in a healthy manner until I gave birth to a 7-pound boy.

I have since lost the pregnancy weight, but I still hold the grudge: my body and my baby have taken our copay elsewhere.

Were you weight-shamed during your pregnancy?

Here’s *the* real dress that Donatella Versace wore during the latest episode of “American Crime Story”

Here’s *the* real dress that Donatella Versace wore during the latest episode of “American Crime Story”

Here’s *the* real dress that Donatella Versace wore during the latest episode of “American Crime Story”

If you’ve been secretly missing Penelope Cruz’s portrayal of Donatella Versace for the last few episodes of American Crime Story, here’s some good news for you: The latest episode of the series, “Ascent,” featured a whole lot of Cruz and her bleach blonde hair as the legendary designer. We’re now even further back in time, back when Gianni Versace was still very much alive, and the year is 1993.

The place? New York City. And as for the event? We’re at Vogue Magazine’s 100th anniversary party — an event that truly cemented Donatella as a face (and, behind-the-scenes, a voice) of the fashion house.

“Ascent” opens with a blow out fight between Donatella and her brother, because he is less than impressed with the designs that she is turning in. According to Gianni, they are not up to the regular caliber that their fashion house is used to putting out, so he strikes a deal with his sister — why don’t they design a dress together?

Donatella is eager to help her brother out, and he drapes fabric (and belts) all over her, creating a pretty iconic dress. Then, Gianni suggests that *she* be the one to wear it out, instead of it going to a model. At first, Donatella balks at the idea, but eventually she comes around. As we see in the episode, the second Donatella takes off her coat and the photographers on the red carpet see her, they are truly captivated. All it takes is her wearing one stunning dress to make a name for herself in the world of fashion.

What might be even more impressive is the fact that American Crime Story seems to have recreated the real dress Donatella wore, right down to the belt buckle. Here’s the real Donatella and Gianni back in 1993:

While the one in the show is by no means identical to the actual thing, it is pretty damn close. Real question, did Penelope Cruz get to keep it after ACS wrapped, or…?

7 Tips for Women on Avoiding Unwanted Advances During Business Travel

Tips for Women on Avoiding Unwanted Advances During Business TravelHere’s an interesting question for today: Do you often get unwanted attention when traveling for work? What are your best tips for women on avoiding unwanted advances during business travel? Does it happen most often in hotel bars, on the plane, at the airport, or elsewhere? From coworkers, clients — or strangers? Do you ever feel unsafe during those experiences, or are you mostly just annoyed when you’re trying to do some work, eat a meal, or simply get to where you’re going? tips for women on avoiding unwanted advances during business travel

The question of how to avoid being hit on when you’re traveling for work is especially relevant in light of all of the changes happening these days with sexual harassment, office culture, and the #metoo movement. As if flight delays, lost luggage, and jet lag weren’t enough, two in five women say they’ve experienced sexual harassment or unwelcome interactions while traveling, according to a recent survey

We acknowledge that it’s sad and wrong that there’s even a need for a post called “tips for women on avoiding unwanted advances during business travel” (and that many women feel like they have to change their behavior or appearance to avoid being hit on or harassed while traveling), but unfortunately, that’s the reality that most of us live in. (There also needs to be something to counter the pieces aimed at men with titles like “How to Pick Up Women on Airplanes” and “How to Pick Up Business Women in Hotel Bars.”) I also want to point out that we don’t want to imply that any woman should be blamed for unwanted attention if she doesn’t do the things below — we just thought it would be helpful to share some advice and ask readers for theirs.

Psst: We’ve previously shared business travel tips and tricks and discussed readers’ best self-defense tips, as well as given advice on how to handle a client hitting on you and how to stop a flirtatious boss from hitting on you. You may also want to check out our post on the best personal safety apps for women!

Here are some tips for avoiding unwanted advances during business travel:

  1. Get some mileage out of your RBF! While your resting bitch face may most often lead to people calling you a bitch behind your back, or compel men to tell you to smile, now you can use it to your advantage! Feel free to look as unapproachable as you want — hey, go wild and cross your arms too (while hoping it comes off as standoffish, not as “I’m so bored. Some unwanted male attention is just what I need!”) If ignoring a guy who’s staring at you doesn’t make him move on to his next target, return his gaze without changing your expression.
  2. Wear a fake wedding ring. This certainly won’t deter every man who’s thinking of approaching you, but it’ll work in some cases, and it’ll only cost you $ 10 or $ 15. Alternately, if you have a sparkly and conspicuous right-hand ring that will fit on your left hand, switch it when you need to. (Maybe you can use this as a justification to splurge and buy yourself one if you’ve been considering it…)
  3. Read a book. If you don’t have one handy, you can instead try to make it clear that you only have eyes for your Instagram feed. Be aware that this strategy can backfire (even when it’s not a strategy), as a writer for Cosmopolitan found when a guy saw her reading at a bar and insisted, “You’re just reading so some guy will hit on you.” (I mean, sure — that’s why I got my English degree.)
  4. Wear sunglasses. If you’re feeling especially uncomfortable, sunglasses can prevent a guy from believing your accidental eye contact is a conscious invitation. (Bonus: If you want to indulge in a bit of people-watching during that long layover, no one will be the wiser…)
  5. Use earbuds/headphones, whether or not you’re listening to something. On the other hand, a common safety tip for women is to only wear one earbud so that you can stay aware of your surroundings, but … that kind of defeats the purpose. You can always limit this strategy to situations and places where you feel reasonably safe, i.e., not walking back to your hotel alone at night.
  6. Resist any natural impulse to always be “nice.” Women are so often socialized to act “nice” and be people-pleasers, but if you’re tired of your polite/friendly behavior being interpreted as romantic interest, try to check yourself.
  7. If you’re traveling to a country where most women dress very differently than you normally do, try to blend in by dressing as conservatively as they do, within reason. (By the way, you can find a lot of reader comments on our post on what businesswomen should wear in the Middle East with specific recommendations for Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc.) Again, please don’t read this as us saying, “Of course she was hit on all the time — look at what she was wearing!”

What are YOUR best tips for women on avoiding unwanted advances during business travel? Do you find that some strategies work better than others?

Pray with us: Will NSYNC join Justin Timberlake during his Superbowl show?

Bye, bye, bye?

Throwback, much?

This article originally appeared on People. For more stories like this, visit people.com.

‘NSYNC fans may have to say “Bye Bye Bye” to dreams of a Super Bowl reunion.

On Feb. 4, Justin Timberlake, 36, will take the stage for the Super Bowl LII Pepsi Halftime show, and former band mate Joey Fatone appeared to shut down rumors of a regrouping. (JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass round out the famous fivesome.)

“I’m here [at dinner] right now — if I was doing something, I’d be at rehearsals right now, so obviously there’s your proof: nothing,” Fatone, 40, told TMZ this weekend of the potential ‘NSYNC reunion. “There’s nothing wrong with that! He’s doing his thing!”

Indeed, Timberlake just released two new songs, “Filthy” and “Supplies,” and will drop his new album, Man of the Woods, two days before the NFL championship game.

This will be the third time the former boy bander has performed at the Super Bowl. He and ‘NSYNC joined a star-studded lineup (including Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige and Nelly) in 2001. And in 2004, Timberlake took the stage with Janet Jackson to perform “Rock Your Body,” which ended in the infamous wardrobe malfunction dubbed “nipplegate.”

In the years since the controversy, Timberlake and Jackson, 51, have made amends. But Fatone doesn’t expect Jackson to make an appearance next month, even if the duo’s reunion would fuel headlines.

“He’s not that kind of person,” Fatone said. “He’s not controversial like that. He is in a sense, but not in a sense to do it deliberately.”

Ashley Judd Says She Was Asked to Take Her Shirt Off During Her First Audition

Ashley Judd opened up about her experiences with abuse and gender bias in Hollywood at an emotional panel at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday.

Joined by a group of diverse filmmakers and Hollywood power players, Judd and the panel discussed inclusion in Hollywood, addressing practical solutions to spur change in the industry and beyond.

Judd, who has been outspoken about the Harvey Weinstein scandal, opened up about her own history with both discrimination in film and sexual abuse.

“Well first of all, my first audition yielded a screen test and I was asked to take my shirt off. It was between another woman and me, and I said that isn’t about our acting, that’s about evaluating a pair of breasts. And the answer was not ‘no’ but ‘hell no,’” she recalled at the panel, titled Univision Communications Behind the Camera: Where Diversity Begins.

Discussing her new Sundance film Monster, which addresses themes of sexual assault, Judd said the storytelling resonated with her deeply. Speaking about her own willingness to discuss her history of sexual abuse, Judd said, “I understand it was never my shame and it was the perpetrators shamelessness which he put on me — and I’ve given that shame back to the perpetrator where it belongs.”

The actress previously discussed her depression and traumatic childhood in her 2011 memoir All That Is Bitter and Sweet.

She added, “And I talk about this from the perspective of from hurting to healing to now helping, but I have the exact same experience where this one summer I was incested and I thought that I had a relationship with an adult man and that it was fancy because he was wealthy. It was just the sophisticated affair and it was outright incest because he was married to a family member.”

Judd noted that while Monster is a “must watch” movie, it was also very difficult for her to watch. “I mean this in a very complimentary way because of the authenticity of the film, I nearly threw up at one point and then a beat later the character throws up.

“I’m just very glad it that it was made and I’m glad that I had done my work because I was using my tools as I watched the film, and I know the filmmakers are very responsible and are going to have trigger warnings and have all types of support systems in place.”

She also spoke about the cost she has incurred from her recent activism against sexual harassment. “I have to know the hill on which I’m willing to die. And the hill on which I’m willing to die is equality, and if that means going to jail, being maligned, being defamed, having tremendous economic loss because I stood up to Harvey Weinstein — and it’s incalculable the amount of money I could have made that I didn’t — that’s the hill on which I’m willing to die.”

Judd was one of the first women to come forward accusing Weinstein of sexual harassment. Since her story broke, over 50 others have shared their own accounts of alleged abuse at the hands of the defaced producer.

Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 women including Judd, Cara DelevingneGwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie since The New York Times and The New Yorker documented  decades of alleged sexual misconduct and sexual assault involving a number of women in detailed articles in October.

A spokesperson for Weinstein previously told PEOPLE in a statement, “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein. Mr. Weinstein has further confirmed that there were never any acts of retaliation against any women for refusing his advances.”

Iranian and American Feminists Declare Solidarity During Iran-Wide Protests

As the largest wave of protests since the 2009 Green Movement erupted across more than 80 cities and towns in Iran in late December 2017 to early January of 2018, we again saw women’s active participation.

Women have played an active role in people’s fighting back against the economic hardship, increasing corruption, and oppressive rules in Iran, especially discrimination and violence on the bases of gender, sexuality, religion and ethnic differences. Furthermore, in the past 30 years, the women’s rights movement has become an essential part of the civil rights and pro-democracy struggles of Iranians under the theocratic regime.

However, as in many other Muslim-majority countries, Iranian feminists and gender activists frequently get caught within a double bind: On one hand, there is a patriarchal cultural and legal system reinforced by the ruling clerics and fundamentalists inside the country; on the other are interventionist forces in the West who exploit women’s rights for their own benefit.

On December 26, just a couple of days preceding the surge of  protests in Iran, the photo of a brave Iranian woman objecting to the compulsory hijab in Tehran went viral. The woman, seen standing on a platform with her white scarf tied to a pole she is waving gently and her head bare, was not the first one to defy the compulsory veiling; her action was part of the women’s rights movement in Iran, specifically the campaign for freedom of choice concerning women’s dress code.

Unfortunately, some right-wing individuals or media outlets have used the aforementioned anti-compulsory hijab action to score points against American feminists who have been at the forefront of the resistance movement against the sexist actions and regressive policies shown by any governments in the U.S., past or present—especially those of President Trump. Some who have no record of advocacy for American women’s rights at home have suddenly become advocates of women’s rights abroad, particularly in Iran—and, ironically, have used their sudden fervor as an excuse to attack women’s groups, activists and feminist activism in efforts such as the Women’s March and the #MeToo movement. Of particular note were their attacks on some participants or organizers of the Women’s March who were wearing headscarves attempting to pit them against that brave Iranian woman who had taken off her headscarf.

We hereby raise our objection to such opportunistic and divisive tactics. The struggle of Iranian women should not be used to undermine the work of American feminists, especially those who have worked to build the largest day of an inclusive global protest in the history of the world. While the Iranian women protesting compulsory hijab policies reckon with them by removing their scarves, the campaign’s message is even more astute. Their campaign is one for a woman’s right to wear or not wear a headscarf by their own choosing—not by force and state imposition. Painting an American Muslim woman activist with a headscarf as a “fake feminist” and pitting her against that bare-headed Iranian woman is no more than a cynical attempt to cause conflict—and does nothing to further international solidarity and transnational sisterhood among women fighting for equal rights and freedom of choice.

The women challenging the compulsory hijab in Iran are fighting for their dignity—just as generations of Iranian women have since the first Iranian feminists began organizing in the early 20th century. Iranian women have been tirelessly challenging inequality in every possible area of their public and personal lives—from fighting unjust family laws, to the equal access to education and employment, for the right to play and watch sports in stadiums, to the right to participate in political leadership of their country as a presidential candidate. And so are the women marching in the U.S.—who are, with more energy than ever, fighting hard to end sexual harassment, demanding freedom of choice and challenging racism, homophobia, xenophobia and exploitation.

Just as Americans stood with Iranians and other immigrant groups opposing the unjust travel ban, American feminists have and will continue to stand with Iranian women in their fight for equality at home in Iran and abroad as immigrants.

We will not let our mutual struggles for freedom and justice be appropriated and used to attack other defenders of women’s rights. We will not allow the fight of Iranian women for freedom, equality and justice to be co-opted and used against women elsewhere.

We can, and must, ensure that our fight for women’s rights and freedoms are aligned and intersectional. We will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in this fight for the common causes of democracy, equal rights, peace and non-violence—nationally and transnationally—across ideological or sectarian, racial, ethnic, sexual or national backgrounds.

Feminism is a movement built on solidarity and intersectionality, and our fight for gender equality knows no borders.

Pilots explain when to worry during a flight

So many of us fly when we go on vacation, and this has become more popular in recent times. However, despite it statistically being the safest way to travel, many people still have a fear of taking to the skies. It might seem daft to the rest of us, but a phobia of flying is actually a real thing, and this is something that can stop people from getting out and seeing the world.

It might seem like fear of flying is irrational, but for some people, it’s a really debilitating fear. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if we knew what to expect, and when we should actually be worrying? Well, the good news is that some pilots, experts in the air, have decided to share their inside knowledge, and put our minds at ease. So, here are some of the most common worries we have, and whether or not they are actually anything to worry about.

Turbulence

This is the main fear that a lot of passengers have when it comes to flying, and it’s also perhaps the most common occurrence. To put it bluntly, turbulence is perfectly normal and should be expected during a flight. The vast majority of the time it’s nothing to do with the plane, and everything to do with the weather, or cloud cover. Through all of human history, only one plane has ever crashed as a result of turbulence, but that’s it. Besides, pilots are not permitted to fly if the conditions are too treacherous, so this is not something you need to worry about.

Engines cutting out

We reckon this one might be a fear that’s been compounded by movies showing engines cutting out a lot. And actually, the engine cutting out doesn’t mean a huge amount anyway – you will still remain in the air, as the plane will glide on its own. The plane will still soar, much like a bicycle will continue to move after you stop pedaling. This is nothing to fret over, and you need to make sure you don’t worry so much, especially about something that has a highly improbable chance of actually happening.

Smoke in the cabin

Okay, we can definitely understand why this one would be so alarming. But, before you go into complete meltdown, let’s consult the experts. Smoking in the cabin might point to a fire, but that is actually really, really unlikely. The most common cause of this is a broken seal that keeps fumes out of the air-conditioning or oil leaking. Either way, these things are nothing to get too concerned about, despite how they might look. It may not smell or look pleasant, but it’s almost never anything to worry about.

We understand that being on a plane can be daunting because you are not in control of anything. We also understand that certain issues seem like they’re going to head toward a worst-case scenario. But, most of the time, the things you’re freaking out about on a flight are things you don’t need to worry about at all.
