Belstaff Introduces New Retail Concept in East London Store

NEW LOOK: Belstaff’s Spitalfields store has undergone a makeover, to reflect the brand’s new retail vision and “community-first approach.”
To mark the new direction, the store will hold a three-day consumer-facing event at the East London location. The event will run from Feb. 21 to 24 and will give customers the opportunity to bring in their Belstaff jackets to be repaired and rewaxed. There will also be stations available to monogram their jackets and shop limited-edition T-shirts.
“We have a great history of outfitting those with an adventurous spirit and an appreciation of the authentic and well-designed. It seems only right that we give these people a place to come together and spend time, a place where they will feel at home,” said  Belstaff creative director Sean Lehnhardt-Moore, who joined the company last June following its sale to Ineos.

The new store concept, designed by Brinkworth Design, takes inspiration from the brand’s industrial roots and British biking culture in the Fifties and Sixties when bikers would hang out in cafés.
To mimic that hangout space, and evoke feelings of comfort, the store is designed with exposed brick, wood flooring, antique cabinets, antique-style furniture and a record player. It also has an

5 unique places in the far east

The Far East is a fascinating melting pot of cultures, combining East Asia, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, and, sometimes, the Russian Far East. Here you’ll find some hidden gems unlike anywhere else in the world, that are just begging to be visited. Not sure where to go that’s a bit off the beaten track? Here are five unique places to visit in the Far East.

Chiang Rai, Thailand

Most people visit Bangkok or one of the many islands when they head to Thailand, which means Chiang Rai often gets overlooked. Head to the very northern part of Thailand and you’ll find this stunning city which is packed full of jaw-dropping temples. During the weekends, this city comes alive with walking street fairs, which makes it the perfect place for a short break. However, if you have a few more days then you simply have to head to the Golden Triangle; where the borders of Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand all meet.

Shodoshima, Japan

Very few people outside of Japan have even heard of the island of Shodoshima, let alone visited it. Known as the Island of Little Beans, this part of Japan is almost like a Greek island! Filled with olive groves, you’ll really feel like you’re in another part of the world if you visit Shodoshima. Make your way to the top of Mount Hoshigaki-San, passing the wild monkeys as you go, and you’ll be able to see across the whole of the island.

Koh Kood, Thailand

Thailand is one of those countries that is just packed with hidden gems, and Koh Kood is certainly one of those. With a population of less than 2,000 and an hour’s plane ride away from Bangkok, very few people can be bothered with the effort of getting here. However, once you’re here you’ll feel as though you have stepped into actual paradise. Lush rainforests, clear blue waters, and quaint fishing villages are all what you can expect to find in Koh Kood. Oh, and very few tourists, of course.

Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)

Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar is one of the most diverse places in the Far East. It’s thought that over 100 ethnic groups call Myanmar home, as it borders five other countries. Yangon, which used to be known as Rangoon, is the largest city and a definite must-add to the bucket list. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of the markets, bask in the Shwedagon Pagoda, and sample some of the culinary delights that are as diverse as the people that live here.

Borneo Rainforest, Borneo

Escape the hustle and bustle of many other Asian countries by heading to the island of Borneo – specifically to the rainforest. Here you can get up close and personal with some of the most gorgeous animals on the planet, including pygmy elephants and orangutans. Who says you have to go to Africa to experience a safari? Borneo has it all.

If you’re planning a trip to the Far East then you definitely have to add one (or all) of these unique destinations to your bucket list.

The Beverley Arms, East Yorkshire: hotel review

This revamped hotel’s heritage, comfort and biscuits appeal strongly to our writer, but his companion proves harder to please …

Driving into the leafy East Yorkshire town of Beverley, we clatter over a cattle grid, then past the racecourse into a smart Georgian market town. I am accompanied by Sophie, my partner, a woman who spent many years inspecting hotels, with clipboard in hand. She has never lost the skills. “Remember,” I hear myself say. “Try and enjoy yourself.” She gives me that look, the one that says, I’ll do what has to be done.

We both like Beverley, a cluster of architectural gems around a market square. When Henry V came to town after Agincourt, it took three days to get all the muck out of the market, but these days it is spotlessly neat and tidy. Almost uniquely in modern Britain there is only one empty shop, something of an achievement in itself, and the rest look satisfyingly prosperous. The medieval minster is the big draw, and a worthy one too, filled with grotesque carvings, soaring columns and ancient artefacts. Nearby stands the house where Mary Wollstonecraft spent some of her early teenage years, a fact only rediscovered in early 2018. There’s a plaque on the facade (it’s at 2 Highgate).

Extra 40% off Bonobos Sale, East Dane Sale Picks, & More – The Thurs. Men’s Sales Handful

Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend or a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below, plus bonus sales if need be. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.

UPDATE: The calendar flips to November and everyone loses their friggin’ minds. LOTS of updates below in case you’re checking back in from early this morning. It’s one of the better handfuls in recent memory to be honest…

Bonobos: Extra 40% off Sale Items w/ GHOULS

Bonobos

The Bonobos sale section has been real picked over for a while now. So a fresh injection of some new stock, to said sale section, is welcome. And now it’s an extra 40% off, no need to lean on the lesser 20% off code (ECLIPSE20.) Use that GHOULS for an extra 40% off.

Target Black Friday Select Deals Preview (exp today, 11/1)

Expires today, so, hop to it. Okay, not exactly our wheelhouse, but big thanks to Brandon D. for the tip on this. Of which he said: “This one is actually pretty good. Especially this Instant Pot, normally $ 100, now $ 70 AND they give you a $ 10 Target gift card. I have the Lux version (the most basic – the Duo is better), and it’s fantastic for cooking for up to 4 people. And if you don’t know what to cook, use that gift card to buy this book!” And as an owner of a cordless Dyson stick vacuum, I can say those things will change your life. Especially if you have pets. Who cares if it’s fuschia. It’s $ 110 off. Also, those wireless beats just got a mention by the Blue Stones the other day. This one is more of a Dappered Space alert, but still. And don’t forget, everything is now getting fast and free two day shipping now, no sign up or membership required.

Spier & Mack: Italian Flannel Sportcoat Sale – $ 249 ($ 328)

Almost $ 80 off? That’s… a really nice price for an Italian flannel, half canvas sportcoat. Plus, you can add pants (not on sale) for $ 138 and make it a suit for $ 387. Available in navy, light gray, and medium gray.

Massdrop: Orient Bambinos – $ 109.99 – $ 124.99 FINAL

Orient Bambino

Plenty of different Bambino styles to pick from. Still final sale of course. Estimated ship date is December 3rd. Lots of style variations to pick from, some of which are an extra $ 10 – $ 15 at checkout. No small seconds this time which is kind of a bummer.

Massdrop: Glycine Combat Vintage Automatic Watch – $ 279.99 FINAL

Glycine Combat Vintage Automatic Watch

Swiss made, automatic movement, 100m water resistance, and timeless vintage military looks. Comes with a two year manufacturer’s warranty. Crystal is a domed “hesalite,” which is probably an intentional choice being that these are vintage inspired. It’s plastic, but scratches can be buffed out. Like the crystals on the original Omega moon watches. Goes for $ 320 over at Jomashop, so, some savings, but these are final sale since it’s Massdrop doing the selling. Estimated ship date is November 26th.

BONUS  Suitsupply: Future Outlet Item?

Suitsupply

Suitsupply just released a new line from their fancy pants “Jort” collection, and, well, I don’t know how many of these things they made, but, if there’s more than a handful, I can see these ending up in the outlet post holidays. I… I got nothin’ fellas.

BONUS II Banana Republic: 50% off F&F Sale

In case you missed it… but… pretty sure not many of you did. Still, one of the better sales that they run. Didn’t get a personalized code in your email? Text Family to 89532 and you should get one back from BR. But pretty sure you’re opting into their promotional texts at that point. If you’re a cardmember, use BRCARD for an extra 10% off at checkout. If your purchase is north of $ 100? Use BRSHIP for free 3-5 day shipping. Full picks can be found here.

BONUS III  East Dane: Up to 40% off Surprise Sale

East Dane

So while East Dane can be a great place to pick up Loakes or the odd Billy Reid Peacoat on sale, there’s also a lot of weird (and expensive) stuff over there. As evidenced by the picks above. Those were the least weird/expensive stuff that I could find.

Hurricane Michael Has Intensified On The East Coast

Earlier this week, Hurricane Michael was building to hit Florida’s coastline. Since then, the hurricane has intensified and is now making landfall as a powerful category 4 storm.

Florida has been hit with flash flooding and forceful winds during this dangerous life-threatening phenomenon. A significant swell was also brought with this intense hurricane. Parts of the east coast gulf have been heavily impacted thus far and some of the land is even underwater.

Our thoughts and good vibes go out to those effected by this vicious storm.

The East London Hotel: ‘Rooms from £85 a short walk from the tube’ – review

‘Throw a stone in any direction from this hotel and it’s likely to land in someone’s negroni’ … a great new base for exploring Bethnal Green

Mother Kelly would be surprised at what’s been happening on her famous doorstep. The Georgian terraced houses of Paradise Row are still there but the railway arches at its northern end – once workshops and mechanics’ garages – have been taken over by chic restaurants and cool bars, one of them named after the early-20th-century pie shop owner herself.

From last week – on the other side of the narrow cobbled street – the site of the former Balls Brothers wine warehouse has been turned, after planning wrangles, into the East London Hotel. In this modernist grey box (with interesting geometric window designs) property developers Irfan Hussain and Marin Jakisic have decided to go for quantity as well as quality. They’ve squeezed 161 rooms on to this small plot between Paradise Row and the V&A Museum of Childhood.
