See the Best Beauty Looks From the 2018 Emmy Awards

It’s not the Emmy Awards’ fault, necessarily, but the fact that they fell on a Monday evening during Fashion Month meant they really had to bring it. And as far as the red carpet was concerned, “it” was, indeed, brought. We were pleasantly surprised to see a fair amount of creativity, whimsy and …

William H. Macy Speaks Out On Emmy Rossum’s Departure

William H. Macy, Emmy Rossum’s on-screen dad in the popular series, Shameless, revealed that he stands behind his co-star following her announcement that she was leaving. After nine seasons, Emmy revealed she is departing from the Showtime production.

During an interview with reporters from Entertainment Weekly, Macy said he wasn’t “surprised,” and thinks Emmy “made the right choice” by leaving the show now.

William added, “we’ve been expecting it.” According to the legendary performer, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the television series, and while it’s exciting, part of that experience is “very frightening.”

According to the Fargo star, Emmy has another show in which she’s an executive producer, thus, her career is moving on ahead. Also, “she just got married,” the actor remarked.

In a statement released, the actress reminisced on the people she got the chance to grow accustomed to over the years. The 31-year-old wrote, “being ensconced in that messy Gallagher family love is something I’d always dreamed of.”

Always great to get the family back together. #ShamelessFinaleParty

A post shared by WilliamHMacy (@williamhmacy) on

According to a source who spoke with E! Online, the decision to leave the series was more about career growth, rather than any personal animosity or behind-the-scenes tension.

Emmy has left with the “utmost appreciation” for the people she worked with and is merely ready to begin getting roles, hopefully, on the big screen.

Emmy is also an outspoken advocate for the body positivity movement. Previously, the actress, as well as Stephanie Beatriz from Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, criticized Kim Kardashian for stating she weighed just 119 pounds, at 5’3″.

Stephanie and Rossum insinuated that such a weight was unhealthy, and advocating for that style of body is harmful to women, as well as society. They later released a joint post on Instagram, suggesting the weight of women is not important; it’s their actions that matter.

Sandra Oh’s Emmy Nomination is a Major Milestone for Asian Women

Sandra Oh made history yesterday when she became the first Asian woman ever nominated for an Emmy in the category of best leading actress in a drama series.

Oh, who was previously nominated for five Best Supporting Actress Emmys for her role as Christina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy, was nominated this year for her role as the titular character in the BBC drama series Killing Eve. In the series, she plays an MI5 agent who is tasked with finding an assassin, Villanelle—whom she later becomes mutually obsessed with over the course of eight episodes.

The show, hailed as a feminist thriller, is also a powerful source of queer representation. “What breaks through is the time and the focus of the show on these two characters,”Oh told The Hollywood Reporter. “It is focusing on female psychology and the female psyche and is doing that unabashedly in a thriller. I don’t think that we’ve seen that before.”

Although earning an Emmy nomination for a groundbreaking feminist role should be cause for celebration, Oh also sees it as motivation to keep fighting for better representation. “It cannot rest,” she said. “I don’t want to rest on the fact that a handful of us have had the opportunity and that it stops there. I want the movement to keep on going. I want the ripple to turn into a wave.”

Amy DePoy is a student at Yale University and an editorial intern at Ms. She loves feminism, reading and writing. She also loves all fruits, but especially strawberries.

The Biggest Snubs and Surprises of the 2018 Emmy Nominations

The Emmy nominations were announced Thursday, and fans can count on contentious races. With awards stalwarts like Veep, Better Call Saul and House of Cards unable to contend for Emmys this year, several categories were left wide open for newcomers and long-overlooked vets.

Critics and fans will be delighted with a few inspiring storylines: Sandra Oh set a record. Issa Rae finally got nominated. The Americans may just pull off a win or two following its last season. But there were disappointments too: stans for David Lynch’s bizarre Twin Peaks, Emilia Clarke’s fearsome turn in Game of Thrones or the irreverent Netflix true crime spoof American Vandal will certainly be disappointed. But what can we do except head out into the parking lot and spray paint inappropriate pictures on the Emmy voters’ cars.

Here are all the Emmy snubs, surprises and storylines to come out of the nominations.

Netflix Nabs More Nominations Than HBO

For 17 years, HBO has always earned the most Emmy nominations. Netflix finally broke that streak, earning 112 nominations this year. The change signals a shift in the power dynamics between streaming services and the premium cable giant: AT&T recently told HBO they have to produce more shows to keep up with Netflix.

Sandra Oh Sets a New Milestone

Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh is the first Asian actor to be nominated for the Best Actress in a Drama category. The Canadian actor is no stranger to the Emmys: She’s been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama five times.

But Killing Eve Gets Snubbed from Best Drama Category

To fans’ outrage, neither the breakout BBC America show nor Oh’s costar Jodi Comer earned Emmy nominations

Queer Eye Solidifies Its Place as a Cultural Phenomenon

Fourteen years ago, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy took home an Emmy. Now Netflix’s warmhearted reboot of that series, Queer Eye, has a chance to do the same. Queer Eye is arguably the frontrunner in the race: The show’s message of acceptance has become a rallying cry for fans in the past few months, and its five hosts have rocketed to stardom.

Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington Snubbed

All three Lannister siblings (Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) earned acting nominations. Dinklage even broke a record for most-nominated actor in the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama category. But the fantasy series’ two heroes, Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, were left out in the cold.

Issa Rae Is Finally Nominated

Insecure was immediately heralded as one of the best shows on TV when it premiered in 2016, but its creator and star Issa Rae was snubbed by the Emmys—until now. She get a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy.

After Its Cancellation, Roseanne Gets Snubbed

Following Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet and the subsequent cancellation of Roseanne, perhaps it isn’t surprising that Emmy voters snubbed the show. However, Laurie Metcalf did earn a nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Twin Peaks: The Return Doesn’t Earn Any Major Nominations

The esoteric resurrection of Twin Peaks not only failed to get nominated for Best Limited Series. Its star-studded cast failed to get nominated in any of the acting categories. Fans are most upset by the snub of star Kyle MacLachlan.

The Americans’s Last Shot at Emmy Gold

Critical darling The Americans has long been overlooked by the Emmys. Neither of its two leads, Matthew Rhys or Keri Russell—a real-life couple who play married Soviet spies on the show—have ever won an acting award, and the show has never won best drama. A win for either actor of the show would be a wonderful sendoff for the show.

American Vandal, The Good Place, Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are all snubbed

A handful of critical favorites in the comedy category failed to earn Emmy nominations on Thursday. Netflix’s surprisingly brilliant true crime parody American Vandal was overlooked despite boasting a rabid fandom. The mind-bending NBC comedy The Good Place was overlooked despite being the most innovative show on network television. The uplifting (and increasingly political) Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, both Golden Globe favorites, were snubbed as well.

Anthony Bourdain earns six nominations

Anthony Bourdain has won plenty of Emmys before, but his posthumous six nominations will make for an emotional ceremony following his untimely death.

Kevin Spacey Won’t Receive the International Emmy Founders Award After Sexual Harassment Allegations

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Monday that it will not present Kevin Spacey with its 2017 International Emmy Founders Award.

The news comes the day after Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp came forward with the allegation that a then-26-year-old House of Cards star Kevin Spacey tried to have sex with Rapp when he was 14-years-old.

Late Sunday, Spacey issued a public apology, though he said he didn’t remember the incident. He also used the statement to come out as gay.

“The International Academy has announced today that in light of recent events it will not honor Kevin Spacey with the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award,” the organization said in a statement.

The Academy had announced the award in June, saying that the Oscar winner and House of Cards actor was “an individual who crosses cultural boundaries to touch humanity.”

The award was scheduled to be presented at the International Emmy Awards Gala on November 20.

The rescinded award follows Netflix’s announcement that it would end House of Cards, in which the 58-year-old stars, after its upcoming sixth and final season.

Netflix and producer Media Rights Capital released a statement regarding the news: “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey.
“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

ENTERTAINMENT DEAL UPDATE:

Emmy Rossum has had enough of being ‘fat-shamed’

By both male and female producers…

emmy rossum

From the editors of InStyle US
Words by Faith Cummings

This week, Emmy Rossum became one of the latest actresses to speak out against the treatment of women in Hollywood. The 31-year-old spoke out earlier this year about a nightmare experience with a male director where she was forced to audition in a bikini.

Then, this week she took to Twitter once more to talk about her harrowing past encounters with film producers, just days after Jennifer Lawrence revealed she’d been told to lose weight by a female producer.

‘I have had FEMALE producers make comments to me about what I’m putting in my mouth,’ Rossum tweeted. ‘Things like “Don’t get fat. No one will watch this.”’

She then recalled a moment more than a decade ago, where a male photographer asked her if she was going to eat a piece of cake during the lunch break for a magazine cover shoot. Rossum said she not only took a second piece of cake to prove she wouldn’t tolerate disrespect, but also stared at him as she ate it.

‘If I’m honest, in that moment, I feel shame,’ she tweeted. ‘I don’t want the cake anymore. I don’t want to celebrate. Don’t even want to keep shooting.’

Rossum was both shocked and proud when she found out so many actresses were speaking up about harassment in Hollywood. ‘I was blown away by all the women coming forward to share their stories,’ she stated. ‘Ones that feel immediately sadly familiar.’

She ended her series of tweets with a call to action for the industry. ‘We must look at ourselves,’ she affirmed. ‘At how we can make our industry kinder, more supportive, of how — as women AND MEN — we can build each other up.’

We’re inspired by Rossum’s bravery and all those who have had the courage to speak up about the rampant misconduct in the movie business.

5 Bold 2017 Emmy Awards Predictions

The 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards air this Sunday.

In recent years, the Emmys have become a predictive affair, with the same shows and actors winning again and again. With Game of Thrones ineligible for this year’s awards (expect it to take home many trophies next year), there’s an opportunity for new (and deserving) nominees to take home the trophy.

Here are five bold predictions for Sunday night’s show.

The Handmaid’s Tale Wins Best Drama

Game of Thrones has dominated this category. Look for The Handmaid’s Tale — Hulu’s series about a dystopian future where a totalitarian government forces the few remaining fertile women to breed against their will — to contend for a win. Given the political tone awards shows have taken since the election, this may be a way for Emmy voters to send a message against government policies restricting women and their reproductive rights. Netflix’s Stranger Things — with its exuberant young actors — may be a dark horse in this category, and while we loved it and its cast, its time may have past.

Elisabeth Moss Wins For Best Actress, Drama

There are many strong actors in this race, including last year’s winner Claire Foy and Oscar winner Viola Davis, but Elisabeth Moss may be poised to win her first Best Actress Emmy (she was previously nominated for her work in Mad Men). Moss plays the besieged handmaid Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale with such strength and vulnerability. Evan Rachel Wood is nominated from another genre show — Westworld — but Moss’ performance and the political push gives her an edge.

Millie Bobby Brown Wins For Outstanding Supporting Actress in Drama

While Stranger Things may be shut out of the big prize, Millie Bobby Brown — who plays the telekinetic Eleven — may take home supporting actress honors. Brown showed range well beyond her 13 years (especially considering she was pre-teen when the series was filmed) and voters love rewarding emerging stars. If she wins, she will be the youngest Emmy winner in history.

Black Mirror Wins Outstanding Television Movie

The British sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror has become a bit of a cult favorite, and for good reason: powerful performances and thought-provoking plots. The nominated show — “San Junipero” — is essentially and LGBT love story with a sci-fi twist; the lovers meet in different time periods. Without spoiling too much, it’s both uplifting and sad. And deserving of a win.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Wins Outstanding Reality-TV Competition

While not necessarily a genre show (though it has many components — including alternative voices, imaginative costumes and fantasy-driven challenges), RuPaul’s Drag Race has a strong fandom. RuPaul took home his second consecutive hosting Emmy last week, so the show is on a roll. It’s definitely worth of “condragulations.”

The Primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday night on ABC. Who do you think will win? Cast your votes below.

Steve Harvey Scores Two Daytime Emmy Awards

Steve Harvey

Actor, comic, and media personality Steve Harvey added two more Emmy wins to his portfolio on Sunday at the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Harvey took home the Outstanding Game Show Host award for hosting Family Feud along with the Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host Emmy for his syndicated talk show, Steve Harvey. The veteran comedian, however, was not present to receive the awards in person during the live taping, which took place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California.

In addition to hosting those two Emmy-winning shows, Harvey also hosts a string of other programs. The star-studded version of his hit game show, Celebrity Family Feud, will debut on June 11 on ABC and feature stars such as Amy Schumer and George Lopez. Harvey’s own family members are also set to make an appearance on the show, reports TV Insider.

Ironically, his new reality competition, titled Steve Harvey’s Funderdome, will premiere on the same exact day and station. On the show, up-and-coming entrepreneurs will go head-to-head to compete for funding for their business, which will be determined by a live studio audience.

Meanwhile, the Little Big Shots spinoff, Little Big Shots: Forever Young, will premiere on NBC on June 21. Rather than showcase talented children, Harvey will conduct his signature couch interviews with senior citizens with unique talents and big personalities. Just like the original series, Harvey has teamed up with Ellen DeGeneres to executive produce the series.

And, if you still can’t get enough of the original king of comedy, you can also catch him emceeing the upcoming season of Showtime at the Apollo. Harvey will host the legendary music and comic showcase, which has been picked up by Fox, in a weekly series.

Emmy Rossum Found A Heartwarming Way To Reuse Her Wedding Flowers

Emmy Rossum found a beautiful way to give her wedding flowers a second life.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the “Shameless” actress tied the knot with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail in New York City. On Wednesday, the bride revealed that she donated her flowers to Repeat Roses, an organization that picks up arrangements after the event, repurposes them and then delivers them to hospitals, nursing homes and other places where they’ll provide some comfort and happiness.

A post shared by Emmy Rossum (@emmyrossum) on

“Thank you @RepeatRoses,” Rossum wrote on her Instagram Story. “@RepeatRoses brought these and many more to Mount Sinai hospital. [The company] repurposes flowers from weddings and events so they don’t go to waste.”

Repeat Roses founder Jennifer Grove told The Knot that the combination of garden roses, ranunculus and peonies from the couple’s wedding created a number of stunning arrangements for the patients and staff at the hospital.

“[Emmy and Sam] graciously donated their reception table centerpieces, which we repurposed overnight into 28 arrangements,” Grove told The Knot. “[The flowers were] delivered first thing the next morning to the Phyllis and Lee Coffey Geriatrics Department at the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mt. Sinai Hospital.”

“We love their love story and are so thrilled they started their new chapter as newlyweds on a sweet note of kindness by giving back to the local community,” Grove added.

Rossum and Esmail said their “I dos” Sunday at Central Synagogue in Manhattan followed by a reception at the Guggenheim Museum. On the big day, the bride ― who donned an off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown ― was joined by her “Shameless” costars, including William H. Macy, Jeremy Allen White, Shanola Hampton and Isidora Goreshter.

Emmy Rossum Slams Donald Trump Supporters For ‘Disgusting’ Anti-Semitic Threats On Twitter

In the days following the election of Donald Trump as president, a number of hate crimes and incidents of hate speech have occurred throughout the country. As it turns out, celebrities are not immune to this type of frightening behavior.

On Sunday morning, “Shameless” star Emmy Rossum slammed Trump supporters who she claimed sent her messages “threatening to send me & my ‘ilk’ to the gas chambers.”

Rossum called the trolls’ threats “disgusting & offensive” before telling them to back off. The Huffington Post has reached out to a representative for Rossum for further comment; we have also reached out to Twitter for more information about the tweets and whether any action has been taken.

Earlier in the week, Rossum, a Hillary Clinton supporter, tweeted about her sadness with the outcome of this election, noting, “it feels personal to so many.”

Rossum isn’t the first star to face hate in the wake of this week’s events. “Silicon Valley” actors Kumail Nanjiani and Thomas Middleditch came face-to-face with some disapproving Trump supporters at a bar on Friday night. The Trump fans called them “cucks” (the term, short for “cuckservative,” is used to disparage those who sympathize with liberal values or anyone who is anti-Trump.)

Nanjiani, a Pakistani-American comedian, said he was luckily spared from a violent altercation, but noted that others may not have not been so lucky.

“We can’t let hate/racism/bigotry/sexism be normalized. If something happens, be safe, but let it be known we won’t stand for this,” Nanjiani wrote on Twitter.
