Aretha Franklin Laid To Rest In Epic, Hours Long Funeral

DETROIT (AP) — Former presidents and preachers joined a parade of pop stars Friday in a singing, hip-swaying, piano-pounding farewell to Aretha Franklin, remembering the Queen of Soul as a powerful force for musical and political change and a steadfast friend.

In a send-off both grand and personal, an all-star lineup of mourners filled the same Detroit church that hosted Rosa Parks’ funeral and offered prayers, songs and dozens of tributes. Guests included former President Bill Clinton, former first lady Hillary Clinton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson.

Robinson, the Motown great, remembered first hearing Franklin play piano when he was just 8 and remained close to her for the rest of her life, talking for hours at a time. “You’re so special,” he said, before crooning a few lines from his song “Really Gonna Miss You,” with the line “really gonna be different without you.”

Bill Clinton described himself as an Aretha Franklin “groupie” whom he had loved since college days. He traced her life’s journey, praising her as someone who “lived with courage, not without fear, but overcoming her fears.”

He remembered attending her last public performance, at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation benefit in November in New York. She looked “desperately ill” but managed to greet him by standing and saying, “How you doin,’ baby?”

Clinton ended by noting that her career spanned from vinyl records to cellphones. He held the microphone near his iPhone and played a snippet of Franklin’s classic “Think,” the audience clapping along.

“It’s the key to freedom!” Clinton said.

Expected to last several hours, the service encompassed many elements, emotions and grand entrances that were hallmarks of her more than six decades on sacred and secular stages.

Ariana Grande sang one of the Queen’s biggest hits, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and Faith Hill performed “What a Friend We Have In Jesus.” The Aretha Franklin Orchestra performed a medley featuring “I Say a Little Prayer,” ”Angel” and other songs she was known for, along with such gospel numbers as “I Love the Lord” and “Walk in the Light.”

Barbara Sampson read a statement from former President George W. Bush, saying that Franklin would continue to inspire future generations. The Rev. Al Sharpton read a statement from former President Barack Obama, who wrote that Franklin’s “work reflected the very best of the American story.”

Sharpton received loud cheers when he criticized President Donald Trump for saying that the singer “worked for” him as he responded to her death. “She performed for you,” Sharpton said of Franklin, who had sung at Trump-owned venues. “She worked for us.”

“She gave us pride. She gave us a regal bar to reach. She represented the best in our community,” Sharpton said.

Many noted her longtime commitment to civil rights and lasting concern for the poor. Her friend Greg Mathis, the award-winning reality show host and retired Michigan judge, recalled his last conversation with her. They talked about the tainted water supply in Flint. “You go up there and sock it to ’em,” she urged Mathis, paraphrasing the “sock it to me” refrain from “Respect.”

Franklin died Aug. 16 at age 76.

New 'Alita: Battle Angel' Trailer Promises an Action-Packed Epic Sci-fi Movie; Here's Everything We Know

Update: More than six months since the arrival of the first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel (which was then set to open this month), another spot has finally arrived. Once again, we are teased an epic sci-fi movie unlike anything we've seen before, but this trailer seems a little more action-heavy than the last one – in a good way. And the CG special effects, including some completely performance-captured humanoid characters, also looks even better than it did before.

MOVIE APP UPDATE:

‘Drag Race’ Finale: A Queen Is Crowned After One Finalist’s Epic Fail

Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from the finale episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10. Proceed with caution.

After a season of Vanjie chants and Vixen rants, the historic 10th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race has officially come to an end. And in an edge-of-your-seat finale, RuPaul crowned New York queen Aquaria as America’s Next Drag Superstar.

The final episode used the same format that Ru originated in Season 9, which found the final four contestants lip-syncing against each other in one final showdown for the crown.

Asia, Aquaria, Eureka, and Kameron came out in new costumes to spin the wheel to decide who would perform first, and one thing was suddenly certain — these queens had some reveals planned. (Aquaria was literally in a giant silver bag with no arms showing, so no extra points for surprising us.)

The first queens to face off were Kameron Michaels and Asia O’Hara, performing to Janet Jackson’s “Nasty.” While Kameron’s reveal involved taking off her robe to show off a skimpy bodysuit, Asia put in a little more creativity. The queen had butterflies hidden in her outfit, unleashing them throughout the song. Unfortunately, it went terribly, terribly wrong.

Every time she took off a piece of her outfit to set the butterflies free, they didn’t fly away. Instead, they simply fell to the ground. And the audience noticed. A shot of Monique Heart staring at the stage in horror said it all.

At that moment, Asia’s dreams of becoming the winner of Season 10 crashed to the ground harder than those butterflies. And that meant Kameron Michaels continued to be the surprise lip-sync assassin of the season, as she moved to the finale.

Next, we had Aquaria and Eureka lip syncing to Janet Jackson’s “If.” Aquaria’s reveal came immediately, when she took off her silver pouch and revealed a bodysuit made of spikes. Not sure what the point of the reveal was since it happened so instantly, was so obviously going to happen, and nothing exciting appeared. But, okay!

Meanwhile, Eureka took off her wig and had two different costumes underneath her original outfit. It was all fun, but the sad thing is, none of the reveals or performances came close to the shock and awe of  Sasha Velour‘s rose petal reveal from last season, except for Asia’s butterfly concept. Except it didn’t work.

As for their performance, Aquaria and Eureka both equally turned the party, so it was completely unclear who the winner would be. But Ru clearly agreed, announcing, “Shantay, you both stay!” They both deserved it, but this must have made things sting even more for Asia.

Before the final lip sync, Ru announced that it was time to reveal the winner of Miss Congeniality. But because of some hacker interference in the fan voting process, she decided to have the other queens of Season 10 vote instead. I was just telling everyone who would listen that this is the way it should be done because it’s the only way to avoid a “fan favorite” winner, and only the queens really know who was the most congenial behind the scenes.

Luckily, Ru listened to my thoughts and announced that the queens voted for Monét X Change to be crowned Miss Congeniality. This was no surprise to me, as every queen I asked on the red carpet said Monét deserved the title. Congrats, Sponge Queen!

But the good cheer quickly dissipated and things got serious as it became time for the final three-way lip sync, set to the sounds of Jessie J’s “Bang, Bang.”

Aquaria instantly set off sparklers as the song began (she clearly has a hard time building up to a surprise), and the rest was a chaotic scene of splits and death drops. But it was clear that all the girls brought everything they had.

But only one could walk away with the crown. And so, RuPaul announced that Aquaria was the official winner of Season 10. Which means Eureka and Kameron were runners-up, and Asia was left behind in fourth place.

With All Stars 3 leading right into Season 10 earlier this year, we’ve spent a lot of time together over the last few months discussing our Drag Race obsession. But all good things must come to an end. Don’t worry, though, we’ll be here next year when Season 11 debuts (hopefully with Miss Vanjie as a contestant). But for now, are you happy with the results of tonight’s finale? Sound off on Twitter and let us know!

The Money Behind Coachella and Beyoncé’s Epic Performance

Despite being notorious for attracting the most reprehensibly privileged, culture-appropriating people on the planet, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival rakes in big bucks each year. Every April, thousands of music lovers convene in Indio, California, for the two-weekend concert that features an array of artists, from superstars like The Weekend to up-and-coming indie artists.

#Beychella

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

This year, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter became the first African American woman to headline the mega-fest. On Saturday, Queen Bey delivered a dynamic, unapologetically black performance that paid tribute to HBCUs, Malcolm X, Nina Simone, and African queen Nefertiti. It was marked by a live marching band, an army of 100 dancers, costume changes, and cameos from Destiny Child, Jay-Z, and Solange. It was epic and it likely cost hundreds of thousands of dollars—if not a million—to produce.

Following the performance, which has been dubbed “Beychella,” the Grammy Award-winner announced that she will donate $ 100,000 to four different HBCUs. As part of her BeyGOOD initiative, one student Tuskegee University, Bethune-Cookman University, Xavier University of Louisiana and Wilberforce University will receive $ 25,000 each for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Money Moves

Just days before hitting the stage at Coachella, Belcalis “Cardi B” Almanzar revealed that she will earn $ 70,000 for each of her two performances. However, because she planned on spending around $ 300,000 of her own money on her stage set, she’ll actually take a financial hit. She explained during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation that the festival was booked in 2017 when she wasn’t quite as popular, which, therefore may have compromised her star power to negotiate higher pay.

“We booked Coachella like six or seven months ago,” she said on April 10. “So, I’m getting paid for Coachella like 70 [thousand] a day. I’ve been booked for this. Then it’s like, I have to invest so much money on my stage set—my own money that I have to go to Wells Fargo and write a check. It’s crazy. Almost $ 300,000.”

This left us wondering if Cardi B received $ 140,000 then how much did Beyoncé earn minus the overhead for her over-the-top production costs?  According to Quora, the amount that artists are paid to perform at music festivals depends on their popularity, the festival’s budget, and how many slots are open in the lineup.

The price for an artist or a band also fluctuates depending on how successful they were the year before. “You can imagine that a band that releases an album right before a festival lineup is arranged will probably earn more than if they didn’t put out an album for a whole year,” writes Quora. It continues:

“Another simple way to evaluate how much bands might be getting paid at a festival is by looking at the lineup post. The bigger the font the bigger the cash! Bands at the bottom of the lineup in the tiniest font sometimes might not even get paid much if they get paid at all because the organizers of the festivals are really doing these bands a favor. Not only are they getting a ton of exposure by being on a lineup with other high profile names, they’re also going to get a huge audience at the festival.”

Last year, it was reported that Beyoncé received $ 1 million just for initially signing on to perform at Coachella in 2017 even without performing thanks to an insurance policy that is commonly signed by entertainers. Because she was pregnant with twins, she ended up canceling. According to a policy obtained by TMZ, the insurance covers an artist’s fee for “incapacity,” which typically includes complications from a high-risk pregnancy.

The Business of Coachella

The festival is run by billionaire Republican donor Philip Anschutz, the founder of the festival’s parent company Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG). AEG and AEG Live operate Goldenvoice, the company that launched Coachella in 1999. Despite the controversy surrounding Anschutz and his conservative views, the festival’s popularity and profit have soared over the last decade, making it the most profitable festival in the U.S. Back in 2007 it generated $ 16 million when it was still a one-weekend show. Five years later, the festival earned $ 47.3 million in 2012 after moving the celebration to two weekends.

In 2015, Coachella made just over $ 84 million in ticket sales and became the highest-grossing music festival in the world that year. That does not include the revenue it generated from merchandise and food and beverage sales. It topped $ 100 million in earnings in 2016 and then again in 2017 when it profited a record-breaking $ 114 million.

The festival will likely earn big bucks once again this year since its pricey tickets—which ranged from $ 429 for general admission to nearly $ 1,000 for VIP passes—sold out within a few hours after they went on sale on Jan. 5, 2018.

UNDERCOVER Reveals Its Nike Epic React Collaboration

Jun Takahashi and UNDERCOVER took to the runway in Paris yesterday as models like Stranger Things‘ actress Sadie Sink showed off the brand’s upcoming Fall/Winter 2018 women’s offerings. And one of the unexpected highlights? None other than a first look at the latest UNDERCOVER x Nike collaboration.

Dubbed the UNDERCOVER x Nike Epic React, the new design not only injects its own point of view on the clunky sneaker trend, but comes in a trio of colorful looks echoing the aesthetic of the line’s seasonal apparel. The shoes, as their name suggests, also employ the Swoosh’s latest and greatest cushioning technology, React. The bold color-blocking and retro, trail running-like colorways even recall some of Takahashi and Nike’s GYAKUSOU collaborations from years past. It remains unclear, however, if these will fall under the aforementioned GYAKUSOU banner.

Check out the trio of collaborative Nikes above and stay tuned for more info on the shoes.

The NYFW Show Where the Front Row and Runway Were Equally Epic

Welcome to Runway Matters, where we’re delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.

Some may argue that a 10-year anniversary for a fashion brand calls for a celebration that’s 10 times bigger than whay they’ve done in the past. We’d venture to guess that Christian Siriano is one of those people. While his shows have always been a major draw in the years past—for the made-for-the-red-carpet creations, celebrity front row, and lineup of models who represent women (and men) of all sizes, ethnicities, and backgrounds—it all culminated at New York’s Masonic Hall with a packed crowd and a runway filled with all the drama and glamour one could hope for.

From the opening look on modern-day icon Ashley Graham, to dresses that had us thinking of Oscar night, to a beautiful roundabout finale walk by the models, with The Cranberries’ “Dreams” playing in the background, it’s hard to narrow down the highlights. We did our best with the five below.

We can’t speak about a Christian Siriano show without talking about the designer’s approach to casting. His runway—as well as many aspects of how he does business—celebrates all women and aims to have them all feel as elegant and extravagant as they want. Sure the runways of Fashion Week might be primarily about the industry and the clothes, but somehow Siriano always makes it feel like it’s about the woman, too. Well, women.

There were plenty of familiar faces on the runway for Siriano, but you may not have recognized one. That is, unless you’ve seen him family album. Siriano cast his sister, Shannon, to walk in his 10th Anniversary runway show, as well.

Truthfully, it’s very hard to pick just one from the show. But something about the sparkle of this dress—trust us, it’s like walking Kira Kira—made us feel like it could be a special contender for the red carpet.

If you’ve never been to a runway show before, let us assure you: When the models are walking, the audience is often quiet. Not cheering or clapping, no matter how amazing the garment. But that does not apply to Siriano’s shows. When the crowd sees a gorgeous dress, spots a celebrity, or wants to recognize the beautiful diversity seen on the runway, you hear it. It’s loud, it’s infectious, and it’s wonderful. Naturally the surprise appearance of Danielle Brooks and Selma Blair caused quite a ruckus.

When you have Graham, Brooks, and Blair walking a runway, you’d think your eyes would be fixed on their every move (they were). But we’d be remiss to mention the internal struggle not to watch the front row as well, which included so many amazing women and Siriano supporters, including Cardi B, Whoopi Goldberg, Laverne Cox, Coco Rocha, and more.

Epic Surf in Haiti

Haiti – (a wonderful country of strong, courageous and resilient people)

There is no doubt that the title of this blog post is misleading. Everyone who surfs knows that an epic surf day requires the perfect and delicate convergence of variables – wind, tide, swell direction, air temperature, water temperature, visibility… depending on the state of these variables, your favorite break is epic or junk.  If you want the best day at your break, you have to have flexibility and days to spend waiting for the perfect conditions. The convergence of perfect variables is a rare gift. Unless you are surfing Kelly’s surf ranch, you can’t just pick a day, paddle out and be guaranteed amazing waves. It is part of the spirit of surfing – it makes surfers nomadic, persistent, patient, and attentive.

So it is no surprise that I have been skunked every single year I travel to Haiti. Once a year in November, I travel to this beautiful country to provide pediatric general surgery care in the beach town of Jacmel. Every year, on the Sunday of our trip, I take my team to Kabik beach and the Surf Haiti break where we rent boards, paddle out, languish in the warm Carribean and feast on grilled lobster as the sun sets into the sea. This trip is planned months in advance so there is no chance of timing swells, or tides, or winds … we go to the beach on Sunday after clinic and that is when we surf.

Surf Haiti was founded by an ex-patriot doctor/surfer who travelled to this beautiful country and found a pretty sweet hunk of reef. He started teaching the local kids to surf and then taught them how to make a business out of their skills. These kids rent boards, give lessons, run a guest house, and host a surf contest…. and they do this after school. It has been four years worth of one-day trips. Most of my team lacks a surf background so we get lessons or rent some foam boards but every year, the beach kids give me “a good board.” They welcome me back with a smile and a “nice to see you again” that honestly, warms me to my core.

That one day, every year in November, on that one beach is always an epic surf day. The conditions are usually bleak, windy, and the swell direction for the reef has never been quite right; yet that session is epic regardless. It is epic because I get to paddle out with friends in warm, clear blue water. It is epic because I get to watch talented Haitiian kids surf consecutive corners of stinky waves all the way to the shore. It is epic because we all laugh and smile and marvel at the beauty of it all. It is epic because I feel that I have come home, welcomed into this beautiful culture in this beautiful country.

Sometimes the waves are glassy and so gorgeously perfect, but everyone who surfs knows that an epic surf day is not always about the waves.

I encourage anyone who is interested to learn more about and support Surf Haiti (http://surfhaiti.org) I look forward to grabbing a surf on November 11, 2018 when Single Steps International (https://www.facebook.com/SingleStepsInternational/) heads to Haiti for our pediatric surgery mission.

Photos: 3-year-old has epic Target birthday party

by

Melissa Willets

posted in Parenting

We know moms love Target. But 3-year-old Charlie Kern loves the big red bullseye so much, she asked her mom Emily for a Target birthday party.

“I started asking Charlie in January what type of party she wanted and the first thing out of her mouth was Target,” Kern told BabyCenter. “I tried to get her to want something else like Trolls and such but she wasn’t having it!”

And so, the Pennsylvania-based mom gave Charlie what she wanted, and planned an epic Target-themed party.

3-year-old loves her Target birthday party

Obviously, Charlie dressed in red for her big day, as did her parents.

Target birthday party family

Kern took the Target theme all the way! Charlie’s party was indeed epic, complete with a Targetesque cafe.

Target birthday party cafe

The party also featured a homemade cake adorned with bullseye logos, and of course, red-and-white everything.

Target birthday party cake

“People thought it was hilarious that she wanted that kind of party, and knew we were gonna do it, but when they showed up and saw how it all played out, they loved it!” Kern told us about guests’ reactions to the Target birthday party. She added, “Charlie herself was so excited. She woke up from nap to a decorated house and just walked around so excited yelling ‘Yay Target! It’s my party, it’s my Target!'”

Target birthday party

One especially creative touch was Kern’s dollar section, in which she filled bins with items like bubbles and candy for Charlie’s friends to fill their goody bags, donated by her local Target!

Kern says Charlie’s reaction made all of the planning worth it. As for why her little girl is Target-obsessed, this mama’s best guess is that when Charlie was born prematurely at 28 weeks, and it was too cold for her to take her outside, Kern would, obvi, tote her newborn to Target when she needed to get out of the house.

What mom can’t relate to these types of life-saving Target runs? Here’s wishing Charlie a very happy third birthday, and um, do you mind if we steal this adorable birthday party idea?

Is your child Target obsessed too?

Watch the Epic New Trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here. During halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, galaxy far, far away enthusiasts got their second look at what’s in store for Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and, of course, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) when Episode VIII hits theaters in December.

Fair warning: Director Rian Johnson teased the preview by tweeting that fans who want to remain spoiler-free should “absolutely avoid” watching it. But for those who aren’t worried about seeing a little of the action beforehand, here’s what we learned.

The exciting new spot offered a fresh glimpse of Adam Driver in his role as Kylo Ren.

Tickets for opening night of the movie on Dec. 15 went on sale immediately following the trailer’s debut.

Watch it above.

‘It’ Review: Stephen King’s Psycho-Clown Epic ‘Is the Stuff of Nightmares’

Expect all the bleak summer chatter about the dying box office to fade with the opening of It, a crowdpleasing frightfest bound for box-office paydirt. For weeks now, the trailers for the film version of Stephen King's terror classic have been cranking us up to lose our shit. That evil clown Pennywise, a spectacularly scary Bill Skarsgard (Alexander's brother), is the stuff of

‘IT’ Review: An Epic Horror Film That Will Scare a Generation

In 1989, seven young teenagers come together to defeat an ancient evil entity that lurks beneath their small town. The monster takes many forms but prefers to appear as an eerie clown called Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård). After Pennywise claims the life of young Georgie Denbrough (Jackson Robert Scott), his older brother Bill (Jaeden Lieberher) gathers his friends and goes hunting for the monster they call IT.

Horror Treated Right

it movie pennywise stephen king andy muschietti director
Director Andy Muschietti (Mama) does Stephen King’s book justice.

Stephen King’s IT is an epic tome that treats the horror genre with reverence and respect. It’s only fitting that a big screen adaptation of the book should do the same. And by every measure, IT does exactly that.

Director Andy Muschietti approaches the material as if he’s making the Lord of the Rings of horror movies. Elements of dark fantasy and perilous adventure are ever-present and that elevates IT into something much more than your usual horror movie. This isn’t a typical date night spookfest; IT utilizes jump scares effectively but sparingly, choosing instead to hone in on terrifying imagery and oppressive atmosphere.

And that imagery is HARSH.

Unflinching Violence

it pennywise stephen king clips feature
The infamous storm drain scene is going to give you nightmares.

The 1990 miniseries was handicapped by virtue of being a television movie, and it wasn’t able to accurately display the horrendous consequences of a monster who feeds on children. Muschietti’s film steps out of the gate with one of the most shocking scenes in modern horror history. And the film doesn’t let up; there are multiple moments of jaw-dropping violence and bone-chilling gruesomeness in regards to children in this film. That dedication to the gut-churning evil of the movie makes the terror feel so real. You get the feeling that anyone could be killed, and that makes every tense scene that much more nerve-racking.

Plus, it really helps when you have characters you love.

The Losers’ Club

it losers club
The Losers’ Club are going to be your new film friends.

And trust me, you are going to love the Losers’ Club. All seven kids get to act like real children instead of child actors, and that makes them feel like they stepped right out of some ’80s film. It’s not exaggerative to say these kids evoke the camaraderie felt in Stand By MeThe Goonies, or the recent IT-inspired Stranger Things. Admittedly, some of the members shine more than others, but that’s never so damning that it derails them as a cohesive unit. This is the first time in a while that kids have felt like genuine kids in a horror movie.

But what about their adversary, Pennywise?

The Next Freddy Krueger

it pennywise bill skarsgard
Bill Skarsgård has created a new horror icon.

Pennywise the Dancing Clown is one of the greatest villains in all of fiction. It’s the role that makes or breaks the entire story. Bill Skarsgård was a left-field choice for the role, but it was absolutely the right choice. Skarsgård has created a monster that will become the horror icon of an entire generation. There are clear inspirations from A Nightmare on Elm Street in the film — including a cute theater marquee nod — and it’s not hard to see Skarsgård as this generation’s Freddy Krueger.

Everything about Skarsgård is perfect; his vocal performance is bubbly and childlike but conceals a growling beast underneath, his body language feels spry and utterly inhuman, and his clear love of being evil bursts through at every possible moment. Much like Heath Ledger’s Joker or Anthony Hopkins’s Hannibal Lecter, Skarsgård’s Pennywise will become an immortal screen villain that will haunt us for ages to come.

Is IT Good?

No joke: IT is an all-timer. This is a film that has been given the A+ treatment and that shows in every frame. If this had been made in the 1980s, we’d be hailing it as a horror classic. The production, the performances, the visuals, the story, the horror, and everything else gels together into one of the best Stephen King movies ever made.

I’m actually worried about the eventual second part of the story because the bar has been set very, very high. If the studio bumps up the budget even more and lets Muschietti go truly wild, we could be looking at a duology of films that are game-changers for the horror genre. Bring it on.

Dad gives epic diapering fail a score of 0 out of 10

posted in Parenting

The moment you finally got a long-hoped for positive pregnancy test.

Holding your newborn for the very first time.

Every single one of those gooey, slobbery baby grins — it’s easy to think of parenting moments you’d rate 10 out of 10, but what would you absolutely not recommend?

For one first-time dad, an epic middle-of-the-night diaper changed earned the dreaded 0 out of 10 score.

“Very early one special morning,” Reddit user ksozay “was startled out of my 23 minute slumber at 3AM by a loud fart.”

Assuming the gas was being passed by his 1-month-old daughter, he climbed out of bed to change her wet diaper.

“I undo the diaper and reach for a new one,” he recalls. “Suddenly, I hear a gunshot, look down, and I’ve taken a shot directly to the chest and across my right arm. A perfect three shot sweep, very efficient. I watched in horror as baby shit slowly ran down my t-shirt and arm.”

“The new diaper I was holding – now covered in poop fragments. I toss the dirty diaper, toss the new diaper now covered in fragments, and clean off the kid, remove my t-shirt. I grab a new diaper, start to move it into position, and take another hit, directly to center of my chest. This time by a steady stream of urine. Accidentally use new diaper to mop urine off chest and now have to throw that one out. Get new diaper.”

baby sleeping

Somehow, it doesn’t end there.

The first-time father continues: “Take new diaper, move legs up, hear a fart and I instinctively dodge to the right – nothing. Fart came from dog on bed. False alarm. Give dog the finger. Move back into position.

“Get new diaper – kid sharts and I take a third shot directly to the chest and stomach. I’m down on the floor, staring up at the ceiling in disbelief, wondering what’s happened to my life. It’s 3AM and my kid has given me 1 golden shower and 2 hot lunches… without even waking up. Dog on bed sleeping, wife in bed sleeping, kid on changing table sleeping, and I’m on the floor wondering who I REALLY am.”

Finally, baby girl has her new diaper on and this dad learns the hard way “never to remove old diaper without new diaper underneath and to NEVER stand in the direct line of fire.”

But as he puts baby girl back in her bassinet and changes into clean clothes for himself, the sound that started it all returns.

“Wife farts, sound scares dog, dog barks, bark scares kid, kid awake and crying, crying baby wakes wife, wife turns to me and says: ‘Hey, can you change her diaper?’

“I shit you not. This actually happened. So yeah, I’d give that a 0/10…”

What’s your would not recommend parenting experience?

Epic Moments In Fashion That Wouldn’t Have Existed Without The LGBTQ Community

Plainly stated, fashion as we know it today would not exist if not for the creativity and influence of people in the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ stylists, designers and fashion personalities alike make up the heart of the industry.

As a result, many of our very favorite moments in pop culture, film and even political happenings would simply have not been possible without the LGBTQ community’s contributions.

The history of fashion and its intersection with queerness goes far beyond this small sampling. The 25 moments we’re highlighting below, while iconic, just barely skim the surface.

Could you imagine living in a world without Madonna’s cone bra, debuted in 1990 and designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier? Or what about any single thing Sarah Jessica Parker wore as Carrie Bradshaw on “Sex and the City?”

Behold, in honor of Pride Month, 25 of the many epic moments in fashion history for which we should thank the LGBTQ community.

Mom Of Boys Has Epic Reaction To Learning She’s Having A Girl

A Kansas City mom is going viral because of her strong reaction to learning the sex of her unborn baby.

On Sunday, blogger Egreis Gjergjani posted a video from her “gender reveal” party on Instagram. Egreis and her husband Jeremy ― who have two sons, ages 1 and 3 ― cut into a cake and found that the frosting was pink for a baby girl.

As the video shows, the expectant mom was floored … literally.

And I'll end up as a meme somewhere. Fml! We're having a GIRL!!!!!

A video posted by Egreis Gjergjani (@thestilettomeup) on

Egreis’ Instagram video has been viewed nearly 700,000 times.

She told The Huffington Post she and her husband weren’t planning to have any more children after their “two amazing sons,” and this third pregnancy was a total surprise.

“Since I’ve had two boys so far, I genuinely did not think I would have a girl,” the mom said. “I even started a children’s couture line, Itty Bitty Toes, that specializes in handmade dresses for little girls. It was my way of experiencing what having a little girl would be like.”

Learning that she would soon have a “mini me” to dress in her designs was “an unbelievable feeling,”  she added.

Egreis posted two other videos from the party. One shows the moment before the big reveal and the other shows a prank her friend played on her. Egreis and her husband thought they were going to learn the sex of their baby with a balloon reveal, but it turns out the balloons were pink and blue.

“My best friend is evil lol,” the mom wrote in the video caption.

Egreis, who is originally from Albania, is due in June. She said she’s been touched by the kind comments from strangers who watched her big reveal video.

“So many of them have shared tears of joy with me,” she said. “That’s the beauty of humanity. To be able to relate to another human being, without ever knowing them, simply because you can feel the happiness through a video.”

Egreis has enjoyed re-watching the video and looking at her son George’s reaction. “He knows mommy is having a baby but had no idea really what was going on,” she explained. “He just thought we were celebrating something with cake … I laugh when I see George’s face the entire time. He’s just so confused, wondering what is wrong with the cake!”

Ultimately, Egreis says the source of her joy is simple “To be able to carry a child is a blessing, she said, adding, “That initial discovery of your child’s gender is an amazing feeling. It doesn’t matter if it is boy or girl, just that initial moment of knowing what you’re going to have makes it all so real.”

Julianne Hough Shares Epic Dancing Throwback with a Young Mark Ballas — and They’re Both ‘Tan AF’

Before Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas were Dancing with the Stars pros, the longtime friends danced side-by-side in competitions as kids — and Hough has epic evidence to prove it!

Hough, who serves as a judge on the ABC reality dancing competition series and has two Mirror Ball trophies to her name, shared a throwback photo of herself alongside Ballas as adolescents on Tuesday.

In the photo, Hough and Ballas don all-white costumes — and are both are very, very tan. “#dancerbaby #pastlife #tanAF,” she captioned the Instagram picture, which also documented Ballas’ days wearing braces.

Prior to becoming a household name, Hough and her brother Derek moved in with Ballas’ family (his parent’s Shirley and Corky were family friends) as children — Julianne was just 10 and Derek 13 — to train as ballroom dance pros at the prestigious London dance school Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

On Nov. 25, PEOPLE exclusively reported that Ballas wed his bandmate BC Jean at a venue north of Los Angeles — and tapped Derek to be his best man.

After watching his best friend say “I do,” Hough took to Instagram to pen a congratulatory message in honor of the happy couple.

“Such an honor to be the best man at my brothers wedding. Witnessing their love be sealed under a beautiful Oak tree in front of family friends was such a special moment. Like the tree May you Stand together tall and proud,” he captioned the image of the newlywed pair. “May you always Go out on a limb for one another. To Stay grounded and dig your roots in deep so that you may weather any storm . And always continue to grow, stronger and higher reaching towards the heavens. And to always enjoy the view. Love you two.”

Kittens Make Epic Fight Scene From ‘The Lion King’ So Much Better

Question: How do you improve on an epic scene from a classic Disney movie?

Answer: Swap out the animated characters for live kittens. Keep all the action the same, just with kittens.

Here’s an example, using the climactic fight scene from “The Lion King.”

Grown-up Simba? Bam! He’s a kitten now. Scar? DONE. Kitten-ized.

We can’t imagine how long it took for YouTuber Pasdidée to wrestle his actors into line, but it’s truly a work of art.

It is not, however, the only time someone recreated “The Lion King” with kittens.
