Men’s Wear Brand Fisher + Baker Targets Women for Minneapolis Event

Fisher + Baker is a men’s brand, but that didn’t stop the company from targeting women for an event at its Minneapolis headquarters earlier this month.
More than 80 women showed up at the Fisher + Baker studio for a Sip and Shop event, its first initiative targeted to females.
The event also served as a fund-raiser for Minnesota Wild’s Jason Zucker’s #Give16 Campaign, which was created by Zucker and his wife, Carly, to build the Zucker Family Suite and Broadcast Studio at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital.
Fisher + Baker donated $ 2,500 to the campaign from the event.
“Women are powerful consumers and are influential in the brand and style decisions of the men in their lives,” said Mike Arbeiter, Fisher + Baker’s chief executive officer and president. “By targeting female consumers as part of our brand engagement strategy, we are building awareness with a community that has a strong influence on men’s wardrobes.”
At the event, the women browsed through the brand’s classic styles of outerwear, sweaters and shirts while enjoying wine and cheese. Among the most popular items was the Lexington Vest, which retails for $ 298.

Gucci to Host Event During January’s Fashion Week in Milan

MILAN — Gucci will cap off the upcoming Men’s Fashion Week in January with a performance event here.
As Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana president Carlo Capasa revealed during a press conference on Wednesday presenting the schedule of the city’s upcoming fashion week, the fashion label — which will return to Milan in February with a coed show after it decamped to Paris last September for one season — will host the “Motus presents MDLSX with Silvia Calderoni” performance event at its Gucci hub headquarters on Jan. 14. The performance, which will be produced by independent theater company Motus and directed by Enrico Casagrande and Daniela Nicolò, will blend a monologue by Calderoni and video projections exploring the notion of gender identity in a play inspired by the 2003 novel “Middlesex” by American writer Jeffrey Eugenides. Capasa dubbed the event “not to be missed,” noting how important it is for Gucci to be part of the official schedule.

Event Review: The Christmas House

Canadian Tire decked the halls of a house in Toronto with this year’s trendiest décor, furniture and hottest toys. Each room is uniquely designed to showcase all the colors of the 2018 holiday season.

The open concept kitchen and dining room was every holiday entertainer’s dream and one of the highlights of the tour. Every little detail had been thought of with cozy throw pillows, fabulous skate ornaments draped over the back of the chairs, an adorable antique car ornament used as a place  card holder and a beautiful centerpiece.

This room twinkled in colors of silver and white which is always an elegant combination during the holidays.

The master bedroom and ensuite was decked out in blue and silver including this fun display of ornaments in the tub!

Three children’s bedrooms were filled with all the must-have toys for this holiday season. The bedrooms of all our childhood dreams!

On a magical note, a closet that led into a secret room was the very last spot on the tour. Decorated with ornaments in this season’s hottest color, Serene Rose, this room was a selfie taker’s delight.

Keiki Patients Enjoy Halloween Fun at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center Trick-Or-Treat Event

HONOLULU — Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center held its annual trick-or-treat event for the hospital’s youngest patients today, celebrating Halloween with festive costumes, decorations and healthy treats. Eight pediatric patients ranging in age from toddlers to teens traveled through nearly every floor of the facility, showing off their costumes in exchange for stickers, coloring books and healthy snacks from physicians and staff.

Dressed as superheroes and movie characters, keiki visited General Surgery, Cardiology, Food & Nutrition and other departments to take in the hospital’s Halloween decorations and meet physicians and staff in costume. Five young patients who were unable to leave the pediatrics floor received a special delivery of Halloween treats delivered to their rooms by staff members.

“Our annual Halloween trick-or-treat event is a favorite for physicians, staff and parents, because it allows our young patients to celebrate the holidays without leaving the hospital,” said Kathryn Martin, RN, manager of pediatrics at Moanalua Medical Center. “We look forward to brightening the spirits of all our keiki with healthy treats and festive Halloween fun.”

Black Mompreneurs Stand Up: One Woman’s Journey To Organize Her Own TEDx Event

At eight months pregnant, writer and special needs advocate Eraina Ferguson was set to give the speech of her life. A TEDx talk is one of the coveted roles a person can get when building their professional career. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The event is called TEDxDelthorneWomen, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxDelthorneWomen, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion around the topic Listen to Her. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. “Women from all over the country are raving about this event, I hope to attend and meet some incredible people from all different walks of life,” stated self-care influencer, Tonnicka Gerken.

Eraina Ferguson is no stranger to hard work. After giving birth to a special needs daughter, she went on to finish her undergraduate degree and two master’s degrees, including one from Yale. “I really wanted my daughter to have a good life,” stated Ferguson. Since obtaining her degrees, she has written over 200 articles geared toward teaching parents and the general public about the importance of special needs families living a good life.

In June, Ferguson knew her life would change as she took the stage to do her first TEDx talk, and it did. Moments into it, the sound was choppy, while she was on a stage with a full audience. After giving her talk she was given the opportunity to redo her speech during intermission. Thankfully her film crew was able to film her talk and everything turned out well, but she knew that something else needed to be done. “Though I understood the magnitude of their responsibility, I wanted to organize my own TEDx event centered around the importance of listening to women,” stated Ferguson.

On November 30th, 2018 Ferguson is facilitating a TEDx event titled “TEDxDelthorneWomen”. The main TEDWomen event is a yearly event that’s happening simultaneously in Palm Springs. “The TEDWomen event’s theme is “Showing Up.” I wanted a theme that would coincide with theirs, but also state a truth that exists for women, the need to be listened to.” TEDxDelthorneWomen is a full-day event, taking place in the Delthorne neighborhood of Torrance, California. “Our goal is to bring together bright minds to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration, and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter,” further stated Ferguson.”Our speakers are men and women from all over the country committed to engaging in a discussion about the importance of listening to women,” emphatically stated Ferguson.

LOCAL NEWS: Put-in-Bay Pulls The Plug On Its ‘Christmas in July’ Event

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio– The village of Put-in-Bay opted to cancel its annual “Christmas in July” celebrations for 2019.

The decision was made because unruly crowds and busloads of people coming from Detroit overwhelmed local law enforcement, according to Visit Put-in-Bay.

“Islanders, residents and business people are concerned about the worsening progression of this weekend and are trying hard to come up with ways to get this weekend back to normal. It appears canceling Put-in-Bay Christmas In July was the best option and it will no longer be a part of the Put-in-Bay Events,” Visit Put-in-Bay reported.

Put-in-Bay police get assistance from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Put-in-Bay Chamber of Commerce released the following statement Thursday evening,

“We as an island organization, have not promoted, advertised or had a ‘Christmas in July’ celebration for many years. As July is already the busiest time of the year, no further promotion of an event like ‘Christmas in July’ is necessary. However, sometimes events like this continue on organically without official island organization. At this point, we concentrate on promotions for our shoulder seasons — our Octoberfest, our Maritime Festival and our Pirate Fest. We welcome all visitors to the island. In fact, we have visitors from numerous cities, states and countries every weekend during the summer. Put-in-Bay is a welcoming place to visit, work, and live. We strive every year to make it a safer and friendlier experience for all.”

Millennial Moves: PR Professional Builds Cigars and Whiskey Experiential Event

Millennials are creating and establishing experiential event spaces to increase engagement, awareness, knowledge-building, and most importantly, including the “culture.”  At 27 years old, Kerry Smalls is a director at public relations firm The Chamber Group, and creator of lifestyle event Cigars & Whiskey. In an interview, he discusses his career trajectory and what it took to build his event brand.

Describe the concept behind your brand Cigars & Whiskey.

The sole basis for the creation of Cigars & Whiskey is the idea of connection. Through living and working in New York, I realized how many people were in my network, and also, who they were connected to but would never have the opportunity to meet because of their differing careers and personal lives. My aim is to bring different minds together to forge nontraditional relationships while enjoying a nontraditional luxury experience that millennials do not often experience: cigars and whiskey—a personal favorite.

Cigars and whiskey are associated with financial gain, wealth, business, and the pleasantries of life—things young millennials, specifically my community of African Americans, are not traditionally exposed to if they don’t go out seeking it and that’s an issue. I want to be able to provide that atmosphere for those people—an atmosphere that inspires someone to change their life.

As a millennial entrepreneur how important is an experiential event to the culture? 

Experiential events are key, especially to culture. In fact, I can’t see a brand reaching their maximum potential without some type of tangible activation or experience that the consumer can latch on to in order to connect the dots to the product or service that is being offered. We live an age where, thanks to social media, visuals mean more than anything. People want something they can feel, touch, and see for themselves.

How has your job, as head of a celebrity public relations firm, prepared you for your latest venture? 

My job, at least nowadays, is connecting the culture to the masses. Creating untraditional scenarios and narratives in order to move a brand from point A to point B. In order to do that effectively, I have to at all times know what is going on in the streets. My career in the business has taught me strategy, it’s taught me timing, it’s taught me execution. But most importantly, it’s forced me to stay ahead of trends and understand the generation that I essentially am marketing to and inviting to my events.

How does Cigars & Whiskey differ from other events geared toward millennials? If you create the environment, the people will come. Simple as put. We don’t want Cigars & Whiskey to just be seen as a party or mixer. Yes, it is social and the events are being created so that you have fun but we want our guests to walk away feeling more inspired than when they entered. We want to send our guests on their way with new relationships and experiences that they can utilize for the betterment of their personal and professional lives.

What tips can you provide to any up-and-coming millennial entrepreneurs who wish to work in your field? 

There are many tips and tricks that I’ve learned that keep me going but the few I focus on the most lately are the following:

  • Work hard, at whatever it is you do and expect nothing in return.
  • Build with like-minded people. As you get older, everyone takes up space. Surround yourself with people that offer something to your life both professionally and personally. You will see that this is effective when you are taking that first leap of faith with your business.
  • Take nothing personally when doing business. You will get hurt when things don’t pan out the way you’d wish they had.
  • Consider your pros and cons but don’t ever let the cons deter you away from making an actual decision. Usually, that means that the move is risky, and typically, that is where you could see the most reward.
  • Balance. Don’t go at that thing so hard that you burn yourself out and jeopardize your creative thinking. Self-care is real. Find enjoyment in your work, even if in small bits. And outside of work, learn to relax. Turn it off. Have fun. The second you stop having fun, you need to go back and re-evaluate why you started doing it in the first place. In that space is where you find the inspiration to keep going.

With soon-to-be parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their royal tour in Australia and Pippa Middleton welcoming a baby just this week, the attention has been off Kate Middleton and Prince William.

In fact, we’ve hardly seen the Duchess of Cambridge this year, with Kate taking a maternity leave after the birth of Prince Louis, returning to royal duties just this month.

But given the attention on other members of the royal family, Kate and William managed to throw a secret party in Kensington Palace this week, with the public and press only finding out after the occasion.

The event in question was work-related – a surprise reception for the finalists of this year’s BBC Radio One’s Teen Hero Awards at their Kensington Palace home.

The couple reportedly welcomed teenage finalists to the reception, talking to them about their work as Teen Heroes of 2018.

‘It was such an honour and privilege to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace,’ one of the winners, Siena Castellon, explained to HELLO!. ‘They were both genuinely interested in my website,, which I created to support and mentor autistic students and students with learning disabilities.’

She continued: ’The Duchess was especially interested in addressing autism stereotypes and was saddened to hear about the severity of the disability-related bullying I have experienced. She congratulated me for being a Diana Award holder and for currently serving on the National Youth Board, a role that has given me a national platform through which to share my disability-based bullying experience. They were both incredibly warm, supportive and encouraging. Meeting them was an awesome experience! They have inspired me continue to make a positive difference in my community.’

Snag a UPS Seasonal Job at a Nationwide On-Site Hiring Event on Oct. 19

UPS is calling it Brown Friday.

That’s the term the company is using to describe its hiring bonanza prior to the Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping sprees.

The shipping company says it will hire 40,000 full- and part-time workers at 170 job fairs nationwide on Oct. 19.

We previously reported that UPS was hiring 100,000 seasonal workers this year, so it looks like the brown jacket brigade is attempting to recruit a large share of its seasonal workforce in one day.

The hiring events are split into east and west regions, and applicants have the chance to receive employment offers on the spot.

The seasonal positions are primarily package handlers and drivers. Over the last three years, 35% of seasonal package handlers were hired on for permanent positions, the company notes.

‘Destiny 2: Forsaken’ Event Highlights From Oz Comic-Con

Dollar Tree and Family Dollar Plan to Hire 25K at Oct. 17 Hiring Event

The chain of discount stores known for saving everyone a few dollars is looking to put dollars in people’s pockets.

Dollar Tree, Inc. is hosting its third annual nationwide hiring event on Oct. 17 with plans of hiring 25,000 new associates.

Interviews will be held at every Dollar Tree and Family Dollar store in the U.S. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. The company currently has over 15,000 locations and can be found in all 48 contiguous states.

Both full- and part-time roles are available, including positions such as store manager, assistant store manager, cashier and stocking associate. And, of course, the company is jumping on the seasonal hiring train, so temporary roles for the holidays are open.

The job listings don’t specify pay rates, but Glassdoor offers some insight: Store managers earn an average of $ 44,806 a year, assistant managers earn an average of $ 41,205 a year, and cashiers and stockers earn an average of $ 8.00 per hour.

The company’s benefits program includes a 401(k) plan, medical plans, paid time off, a wellness program, life insurance, disability insurance and an employment assistance program aimed at maintaining a positive work-life balance.

A Dollar Tree press release says there is potential for new employees to be promoted into a higher role later on, adding that in 2017 nearly 40,000 associates moved up the company’s  ladder.

A Subtle Twist Of Line: Richard Berner Live Screen Printing Event

Meet Richard Berner, the host of this month’s Live Edition Printing evening with The Private Press.

What links Audrey Hepburn, Amy Winehouse, the Houses of Parliament and a tentacle-wielding creature from the deep? Unless you have any other (we’d like to say unlikely) suggestions, the answer to that would be Brighton-based artist Richard Berner.

A regular feature on the walls at artrepublic Brighton, Berner’s work blends fine ink work and cultural iconography with a dusting of dark humour. While some of his images are straight-up homages to famous figures, such as David Bowie, Charlie Chaplin and, erm, Storm Troopers, each finished with watercolour hues, drips and splodges, others have the hallmarks of those classic political caricatures found in famous international newspapers and journals for centuries. You know, the ones that take familiar forms and figures but toy with them just enough to make a clever commentary or subtle joke.

Whether it’s a beautiful moth that turns out to be made up of hundreds of tiny skeletons and ghoulish creatures, or a King Kong-like figure ascending Big Ben, drawn in a way that references Dali’s dripping clocks, Berner’s illustrative images definitely reward close inspection. The great news is, you can get up really close to the artist’s next limited edition, as he’s producing it at this month’s Live Edition Printing evening at the gallery, run in collaboration with The Private Press.

Join us at artrepublic Brighton on 26 October, from 6-8pm, as Berner unveils, hand-finishes and signs an edition of just 50 prints, which you can buy there and then. As usual, the after-work creative session will also feature drinks at the gallery and a chance to meet the artist and have a chat about his work.
