We Found the ‘Plaid Shirt Guy’ Who Trolled Trump’s Rally With Hilarious Faces

Reuters/Twitter

Despite his vein-popping rage and reality-TV theatrics, President Trump’s political rallies have become rather mundane events. He screams about The New York Times, repeatedly references Hillary Clinton, and rails against his many enemies, much to the crowd’s delight. Rinse and repeat.

But during Thursday night’s rally in Billings, Montana, something truly unusual happened.

Standing directly behind the president during his 75-minute rant was a plaid-clad young man, at times flashing incredulous, mocking faces directly to the camera as the president incoherently blustered about his critics. That man was eventually yanked—on live TV—from his spot behind Trump.

It’s only been a year, but Newt Scamander has come a long way since he first backpacked through New York City in the year 1926 — and so has his film franchise.

Georgia Lawmaker Faces Backlash After ‘Appalling and Offensive’ Sacha Baron Cohen Appearance

Georgia lawmaker Jason Spencer is facing calls to resign and other backlash after using using racist and derogatory language and partially disrobing on Who Is America?, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s new undercover satire show.

Spencer, a Republican state representative, repeatedly used the n-word, exposed his buttocks, and engaged in other offensive behavior on the July 22 episode of the show.

In the episode, Cohen, a comedian known for his costumed “gotcha” gags, posed as Israeli counter-terror expert Captain Erran Morad, who convinces Spencer to take a fake lesson in identifying terrorists and preventing kidnappings.

“Because of who you are, you could be the victim of kidnapping by ISIS,” Cohen tells Spencer. He goes on to pose as a terrorist conducting such a kidnapping, telling Spencer he has just seconds to attract attention — and that there is one forbidden word in America, the n-word, that might get such attention. In an attempt to free himself from the staged kidnapping, Spencer subsequently shouts the n-word four times.

“Are you crazy?” Cohen, in character as Morad, responds. “The n-word is noony — not this word. This word is disgusting.”

“Got it,” says Spencer.

Later in the episode, Cohen pretends to teach Spencer that can he intimidate ISIS members by stripping down to his underwear and bumping his buttocks against them. Spencer promptly takes off his pants and runs into Cohen. “I’ll touch you, I’ll make you a homosexual — you drop that gun right now — USA!,” Spencer says.

The lawmaker also mocks Asian tourists by mimicking them while using words like “red dragon,” “Hong Kong” and “sushi.”

Multiple lawmakers in Georgia have criticized Spencer following the clip’s emergence. “The actions and language used by Jason Spencer are appalling and offensive. There is no excuse for this type of behavior, ever, and I am saddened and disgusted by it,” Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said in a statement.

The Georgia House Speaker, David Ralston, has called for Spencer’s resignation.

Spencer, who has served four terms in the Georgia General Assembly, lost his primary in May to 24-year-old newcomer Steven Sainz.

Spencer told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution last week that Cohen and his producers had taken advantage of him because he had introduced legislation banning traditional Muslim burkas.

“They exploited my state of mind for profit and notoriety,” he said, going on to threaten legal action. “This media company’s deceptive and fraudulent behavior is exactly why President Donald Trump was elected.”

Other conservative politicians, including Sarah Palin, Trent Lott and more, have also been duped by Cohen as part of his new show.

The former baller was set to be arraigned on Thursday for the burglary charges, before he was arrested again on on June 14th for the rape and kidnapping charges.

This isn’t the footballers first brush with trouble–he was arrested back in 2013 after being accused of masturbating in a New Jersey Target parking lot.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: Jo Finally Faces Her Abusive Ex

A ghost from the past arrived! Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) was forced to face her abusive ex Dr. Paul Stadler (Matthew Morrison) during the Thursday, January 18, midseason premiere of Grey’s Anatomy. Also, a random intern saved Grey Sloan Memorial from being hacked. TGIT is back in full force!

Even though Wilson got her ex to sign divorce papers, she couldn’t help but notice that Stadler’s new fiancée (guest star Bethany Joy Lenz) appeared a bit distressed. She got Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) to distract Paul so she could offer help.

“He told me I was wrong so many times that I believed I was wrong,” Jo said to the woman. “Say the word and I will help you. I will get you out of this right now.” She gave the woman her phone number and they left. However, Paul found out about the conversation and came back to intimidate Wilson again.

“You are torture. You are hell,” Paul told Jo, getting in her face. He added that he would keep her phone number so he could find her easily in the future. It looked like Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) was going to murder him right then and there. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Grey promised they wouldn’t leave her side, but Jo said she just wished her ex was dead.

So did Alex take that literally? At the end of the episode, Meredith walked in to see Wilson and Alex standing speechless outside of a hospital room; Paul’s bloody body was inside, since he’d been involved in a hit and run.

An unlikely character saved the hospital

Elsewhere at Grey Sloan, the FBI was still trying to stop the hacking. Dr. Casey Parker (Alex Blue Davis), an intern with a background in cybersecurity, volunteered to try to help Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) anyway he could. Eventually, he was able to save the hospital, but had to be sneaky about it because he had a previous history of hacking into the DMV and was banned from doing any sort of cybersecurity work again. When Bailey asked why, Parker revealed he wanted to change the gender on his license because it said “female” and he is a proud transgender male.

“I like for people to get to know me before they find out my private medical history,” he said with a smirk.

Pierce and Avery face their feelings

Meanwhile, Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) were totally checking each other out in the bathroom while wearing nothing but towels. They talked about their past and Avery even brought up a possible future between them while addressing the elephant in the room — they’re step-siblings.

“We’re not actually related so we can be whatever we want to be,” Avery said. He did finally ask her out for a drink at the end of the episode and she basically left him hanging. To make the rejection even worse, a man Pierce met on Tinder showed up for a date she had forgotten she’d scheduled. So for now, that slow burn will continue.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.

Rapper Kodak Black Indicted on Sexual Assault Charges, Faces 30 Years in Prison

Rapper Kodak Black has been indicted by a South Carolina grand jury on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct.

The charges stem from an incident in that took place back in November.

via Variety:

According to a sheriff’s office incident report cited by the station, the rapper, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, assaulted a teenage girl at a hotel after his concert at the Treasure City nightclub. The girl first reported the assault to her school nurse; a school official notified the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. Octave, 20, was released from the Florence County Detention Center on Dec. 1 on a $ 100,000 bond.

Beattie Ashmore, Octave’s attorney at the time of arrest, was not available for comment when his office as contacted by Variety on Monday.

Clements told WPDE that if Octave is convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison. No trial date had been set at press time.

Octave recently completed an anger-management program related to a different case: Violation of house arrest resulting from a February probation-violation charge, which stemmed from a May 2016 arrest on charges including armed robbery, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm by a delinquent and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement.

The rapper recently announced dates for his “Project Baby” tour, which begins Oct. 21 in California and continues through the end of the year.

According to science you should never put smiley faces in work emails

🙁 🙁 🙁

Laptops
Laptops

There’s a fine line between friends and co-workers and often that line gets blurred.

Should you invite your work colleague to your birthday party? Is it appropriate to tell your co-worker about your tumultuous love life? And, how many glasses of wine is it socially acceptable to drink in front of your boss?

There are so many questions we need answering to help us locate the professional line, the biggest being work email etiquette – and more specifically the use of smiley faces.

Smiley faces are a great way to punctuate texts and messages, whether it’s for softening blows, relieving awkward moments or just making your message seem warmer. However, it turns out there’s a limit, with using them in work emails actually having a negative impact.

office buzzwords

According to a new study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, using smiley faces in work emails has a huge effect on how you’re perceived, particularly in terms of age, gender and competence.

The study, conducted by researchers from Ben-Gurion University in Israel, involved three experiments, featuring 549 people over 29 different countries, evaluating the difference in people’s perceptions when receiving an email with or without a smiley face.

While the study showed a general assumption that the people who sent smiley faces tended to be young and female, the most interesting point to come out of the experiment was the effect it had on perceived competence.

‘Our findings provide first-time evidence that, contrary to actual smiles, smileys only marginally increased perceptions of warmth and actually decrease perceptions of competence,’ explained Ella Glikson, an author or the study, in a press release. ‘In formal business emails, a smiley is not a smile.’

Her advice? ‘In initial interactions, it is better to avoid using smileys, regardless of age or gender.’

Well that’s certainly given us something to think about ?

Stephen Fry Reportedly Faces Blasphemy Probe After Calling God A ‘Maniac’

English comedian Stephen Fry is reportedly under investigation for blasphemy after calling God “utterly evil” and a “maniac” during an interview with an Irish TV show two years ago.

An unidentified member of the public told the Irish Independent they had reported the outspoken atheist’s comments to authorities in western Ireland because they were doing their “civic duty by reporting a crime,” not because they were personally offended.

Individuals who publish or speak blasphemy can face a fine of up to €25,000 under the Republic of Ireland’s Defamation Act 2009, according to the BBC.

Fry, who currently stars in CBS’s “The Great Indoors,” criticized God on TV channel RTE in 2015 after being asked what he’d say to “him, her or it” if given the chance.

“I’ll say: Bone cancer in children, what’s that about? How dare you create a world where there is such misery that’s not our fault? It’s utterly, utterly evil,” he told Gay Byrne, host of program “The Meaning of Life.” “Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid god who creates a world which is so full of injustice and pain?”

“The god who created this universe, if he created this universe, is quite clearly a maniac, an utter maniac, totally selfish,” Fry added. “We have to spend our lives on our knees thanking him. What kind of god would do that?”

“Yes, the world is very splendid, but it also has in it insects whose whole life cycle is to burrow into the eyes of children and make them blind,” he said.

The individual claiming responsibility for reporting Fry’s comments told the Independent that they traveled to the Ennis Garda station to file the report shortly after the interview aired. They’ve repeatedly followed up with police ever since.

“I told the Garda I wanted to report Fry for uttering blasphemy and RTE for publishing/broadcasting it and that I believed these were criminal offenses under the Defamation Act 2009,” the person told the news site. “I simply believed that the comments made by Fry on RTE were criminal blasphemy and that I was doing my civic duty by reporting a crime.”

Local authorities told the Independent that they are investigating the complaint but that charges are unlikely.

Other atheists have since rallied behind Fry.

Atheist Ireland, which has called the defamation law “silly, silencing, and dangerous,” responded to news of the investigation by publishing 25 other blasphemous quotes that they released after the Irish law first went into effect.

The British Humanist Association also released a statement on Saturday defending Fry’s words and also calling for the dissolution of Ireland’s blasphemy law.

“It is ridiculous that Stephen Fry is being investigated for a possible breach of Ireland’s blasphemy laws,” BHA Chief Executive Andrew Copson said. “Not only are such laws detrimental to free speech here in Europe, but they also enable countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran to justify their own laws, which in the case of 13 states come with a death sentence.”

A spokesperson for Fry, reached by the Telegraph, declined comment, stating: “[There is] nothing for us to say while this is under investigation.”

Congressional Candidate Faces Double Mastectomy and Trump’s ‘Disastrous’ Health Policies: ‘I’m Not Intimidated’

Congressional candidate Alejandra Campoverdi is taking President Trump‘s plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act very personally.

The 37-year-old former White House aide to President Obama publicly revealed last week that she has a genetic mutation called BRCA2, which means she has an 85-percent likelihood of developing breast cancer.

The disease claimed the lives of her grandmother and great-grandmother and almost took her mother’s, and now Campoverdi is making her BRCA2 diagnosis — and her decision to have a preventative double mastectomy in two years — the centerpiece of her campaign to fill Xavier Becerra’s vacant congressional seat in California’s 34th district.

“Health care is a life or death issue for so many Americans, so many people in my district in Los Angeles,” Campoverdi tells PEOPLE. “Sometimes we can get into debates that are very theoretical about issues, and forget that there’s a lot personally on the line for people every day — that every day someone doesn’t have access to health care, or that every day somebody has a bill that puts them in the position of going bankrupt.”

“I’m fine being vulnerable about , because if it’s able to bring the attention back to people, which is what this is all about, then it’s worth it for me,” she adds.

Campoverdi is one of 23 candidates running to fill the seat vacated by Becerra, now the California attorney general, in the April 4 special election. The top two candidates will continue onto a runoff election in June.

Campoverdi says the catalyst for her congressional run was the election of President Trump, whose proposed American Health Care Act has been met with resistance from both Democrats and Republicans in Washington, and whose threat to support continued federal funding for Planned Parenthood only if it stopped providing abortion services was swiftly rejected by the women’s health organization. Just Monday, the Congressional Budget Office reported that under the House Obamacare repeal plan, fourteen million more people would be uninsured in 2018 than under current law.

Campoverdi, who says she worked to help pass Obamacare as an aide in the Obama White House “because I knew it would save lives,” challenged Trump by name in her first TV campaign ad.

“If Donald Trump wants to have a conversation about women’s bodies, let’s start with mine,” she says in the ad that debuted Thursday, two days after she went public with her diagnosis in a Washington Post interview.

“I don’t trust Donald Trump — or Republicans — to be honest about my health care,” Campoverdi explains to PEOPLE. “President Trump needs to think about how his disastrous policies are going to affect women and women’s health. And holding him accountable for that is something that I plan to do and to do very boldly. Where I come from, there’s no other way than to speak truth to power. I don’t come from the privilege of being able to be quiet, and I’m not intimidated by that at all.”

RELATED VIDEO: Watch: Natasha Stoynoff Breaks Silence, Accuses Donald Trump of Sexual Attack

Campoverdi says that as someone who was raised by a single mother, who has been on welfare and who was “the scholarship kid” at the different universities she’s attended (which includes Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government), she’s “understood these issues in a very first-hand way.”

But when it comes to her family battle with breast cancer and all the heartache and trauma that has come with it, “My experience isn’t unique,” she says. “Most women have experiences around their health … and a lot of women have experiences that really pull into focus exactly the real-life implications of a lot of the issues that are on the table in Washington right now.”

FROM COINAGE: This Is How Much It Would Cost to Paint the White House (And More Crazy Facts)

As a woman and a feminist, she says, “I take my own personal responsibility to speak up and to be a voice on these issues — but I also encourage other women to do the same. Because just one voice isn’t enough and where we’re really able to have power in Washington and really move the needle is if it’s a chorus of voices. And I think you see the power of that in the Women’s March and the Women’s Strike.”

Campoverdi was still hard at work on International Women’s Day, but she spent the day visiting with a group of women who participated in the strike.

“We spoke about these issues and everyone shared their experiences and really supported each other in taking a stand and being a voice within our own respective industries. Because this is not a fight just for those in politics — this is a fight for everyone, whether you’re in entertainment or business or entrepreneurship or health or education. And so supporting each other and encouraging each other to own ourselves really publicly and loudly and to continue the drum beat is I think the best thing we can do right now.”

For her part, Campoverdi plans to carry the drum beat for affordable health care straight to Capitol Hill.

“And that means keeping the pressure on Republicans, that means keeping the pressure on President Trump, and also using every megaphone possible to hold folks accountable to the realities of what a lack of access to health care really means and what’s really at stake,” she says.

Gina Rodriguez and her production company have signed a deal with CBS Television Studios, the studio that produces the CW’s “Jane the Virgin.”

Thank you @cbstvstudios for giving I can and I will Productions this opportunity. To my warriors, I am here because of you and we will make sure you feel represented and included in Hollywood. Period. The end.”

Rodriguez’s first project under the new deal includes optioning the German format “Dr. Illegal,” a medial series, according to Deadline.

14 Badass Girl Athletes Show Off Their Game Faces

The 2015 Women’s World Cup begins on June 6, and to commemorate the occasion, the clothing brand Wildfang is showcasing some badass young female soccer players.

The company’s CEO Emma McIlroy teamed up with photographer Andrea Corradini to create “#GameFace,” a series of fierce photos of 14 athletes ages 5 to 14. “We are beyond excited about the Women’s World Cup. It’s one of the most amazing moments in sports and women get to take center stage,” McIlroy told The Huffington Post, adding, “We wanted to look forward to the next generation of female footballers and, as you can see, the future of the sport is in good hands.”

The creators reached out to local soccer coaches in Portland, Oregon and invited their young female players to show off their “game faces,” which they define on the Wildfang website as “their most authentic moment, right before they stepped out onto the pitch.”

Tess, 11: “Cheetahs are my favorite animal — they’re almost as fast as I am.”

Unsure if anyone would show up to the photo shoot, McIlroy and Corradini were pleasantly surprised when over a dozen bold, young athletes stopped by — most coming right before or immediately after practice. With “zero styling,” each girl proudly displayed her purest game face.

“They showed up with such innocent and fierce pride,” Corradini told The Huffington Post. “They were confident, yet giggly. Independent, yet bonded with their teammates. They had no reservations about just being themselves and letting me photograph them in their most natural and authentic way.”

“We wanted to show young females as they truly are — raw, powerful, beautiful,” McIlroy added, noting that she hoped the photo series would provide a refreshing alternative to the images of “young women in pink and wearing princess dresses” that seem so pervasive in today’s society.

The Wildfang CEO also said she hopes other women can “see a little of themselves” in the hardworking female athletes depicted in #GameFace. “We hope they remind them to be a little bolder and tougher and ultimately be really proud of being who they are,” she continued. “Our hope is these images leave you feeling inspired to go kick ass in your day.”
