Samsung Galaxy S10 review: Not an iPhone ‘killer’ but a real challenge

Samsung’s Galaxy S10, released Friday, could be the smartphone to give Apple a challenge — pushing some to jump ship. The South Korean giant’s newest flagship delivers supercharged performance for $ 899 — $ 100 less than iPhone XS — in a sharp package, proving once again that it is the Android phone to beat. Samsung reportedly has two more foldable phones coming after the Galaxy Fold

Samsung foldable phones

Say what you want about the novelty aspect of a foldable smartphone, but while this form factor is very much going to fall in the niche category for the time being, Samsung is nevertheless seriously committed to trying to spur excitement for this new style of handset. So much so that the smartphone maker apparently has two more foldable phones being prepped for after April’s release of the super-pricey Galaxy Fold.

That news comes via a Bloomberg report, which is in line with what we were already reporting back at the end of 2018. As we said in our post from November, for example, Samsung’s ambition is to apparently release at least 1 million foldable phone units a year, including new foldable phone versions each year similar to its Galaxy flagship device launches. In other words, Samsung never intended to put all its eggs in the Galaxy Fold basket.

Samsung’s foldable phone just got real: Meet the Galaxy Fold

Galaxy Fold Release Date

Samsung’s first foldable phone is no longer a secret. The company showed us a prototype back at its SDC18 developer conference in November, so it could announce the Infinity Flex screen and the One UI user interface that will work on all Samsung phones going forward, including foldable gadgets. But that wasn’t a real launch for the phone, as Samsung wasn’t ready to share its commercial name or tell the world how much it’ll cost. It didn’t even offer us a good look at the phone. The prototype was encased in a bulky protective case, and the imagery it used also camouflaged the phone’s design.

Fast-forward to February 20th, the Galaxy S10 launch day, and a massive leak showed us renders of the Galaxy Fold just one day after a leaker said that would be the phone’s name. Well, Samsung’s Unpacked event is finally here, and the Korean giant just confirmed the Galaxy Fold name and revealed other details about the handset.

Sorry, Taika Waititi won’t be directing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

TwitterFacebook

Presumably someone will be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it won’t be Taika Waititi.

The Thor: Ragnarok director made his position on that one very clear on Monday.

Speaking at FX’s Television Critics Association press event, Waititi denied the rumours that have been circling since last year.

“For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films,” Deadline reports him as saying. “Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now.’  Read more…

There are three models of Samsung Galaxy S10 and a photo of all three apparently leaked

TwitterFacebook

Samsung is supposed to lift the veil off of its next-gen Galaxy S10 smartphone on Feb. 20 at an Unpacked event. Unfortunately, the internet got there first.

Details about the various models of S10 have been leaking out since last summer, but this newest development just straight-up shows us what they look like. There are three models in all, and they’re encased in see-through plastic cases in the allegedly leaked image.

The leak comes by way of Evan Blass, who has a good track record of sharing stuff like this ahead of formal reveals. Read more…

iPhone XR vs. Galaxy Note 9 speed test: Apple continues to impress

iPhone XR vs. Galaxy Note 9

On paper, the iPhone XR shouldn’t put up much of a fight against the Galaxy Note 9 when it comes to speed. After all, Samsung’s latest oversized flagship has 8GB of RAM compared to the iPhone XR’s paltry 3GB, but the internet won’t ever be satisfied with assumptions. Therefore, PhoneBuff on YouTube decided to pit the two 2018 phones against each other in a speed test. But does Apple’s “budget” phone even stand a chance?
