The Golden Globes Red Carpet Flowed With Bows, All With Something To Say

Alison Brie stepped onto the 2019 Golden Globes red carpet in a powder blue Vera Wang gown with a velvet bow on her shoulder. The dramatic appliqué was almost as long as she was tall. It trailed behind the Glow star, requiring an entourage. Brie’s intrepid publicist stood guard like a Mother Bear, making sure no one stepped on it.

It could have been a bow to end all bows. Then came a barrage.

Dakota Fanning had not one, two, or three bows, but five lining the back of her Armani Privé dress. Sofia Carson tied a black satin one across the waist of her Giambattista Valli. Kaley Cuoco, Constance Wu, and Heidi Klum also belted their gowns.

‘Life Has Changed Very Dramatically.’ Meet the ‘Fiji Water Girl’ Who Became the Star of the 2019 Golden Globes

Kelleth Cuthbert is having a pretty good week. In just a couple of hours, the Los Angeles-based model became the Internet crowned Fiji water girl sensation for holding water bottles at the 76th Golden Globes. But if you’ve been on social media recently, you already know that.

Pictures of the “Fiji water girl” in the background of celebrity red carpet photos have been circulating at an impressive pace since Sunday’s broadcast. Though she was just doing her job as one of Fiji’s brand ambassadors at the event (responsible for keeping all the stars hydrated), she ended up in photos with Tony Shalhoub, Idris Elba, Dakota Fanning and even Heidi Klum lovingly kissing her fiancé, which Cuthbert tells TIME was one of her favorite photos of the night.

“I’ve worked with Fiji before, but this has never happened,” Cuthbert says.

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Cuthbert has been working as a fashion model and commercial actress for twelve years, so she is certainly no stranger to Hollywood. “I think it’s fun to work the red carpet and look at the fashion, but I never get starstruck,” she says.

Cuthbert says her Instagram following was around 53,000 before Sunday’s event. At press time, she has 189,000 followers—more than 256 percent increase. Though she’s still working on trucking through all of the emails, messages and comments she’s gotten since the Globes, she’s already been featured on the Late Late Show with James Corden.

And she’s gotten her fair share of marriage proposals on Instagram.

But because Cuthbert herself has gone viral, Fiji inevitably has, too. This marketing ploy was more than successful: Marketing analytics firm Apex Marketing Group estimates that Fiji would have had to spend $ 12 million for the same amount of brand exposure. But this wasn’t the first time the brand has worked with models in a similar fashion. Cuthbert has worked with Fiji at other events, including the Emmys. This one, luckily for both the brand and for the model, just happened to have some incredible photo-ops.

Despite working in the industry for more than a decade, Cuthbert isn’t quite used to her newfound fame. “Just a couple days ago, I was walking my dog with no makeup and sweatpants on—maybe even had my pajamas on. Life has changed very dramatically,” she says. But as for what’s next, she’s excited. “I just have to sift through everything and figure out what offers are good, but I definitely would love to do more acting, more modeling, and just to be really busy—really productive.”

How did the Golden Globes manage to be so boring?

Over the last two weeks, celebs went well and truly bonkers: Kevin Spacey released a homemade video in character as his amoral character Frank Underwood, claiming that we all wanted him to be, in real life, a sleaze and quite possibly a sexual predator. John Krasinski Was Emily Blunt’s Biggest Fan at the Golden Globes and This Cheering Meme Is Proof

Though neither John Krasinski nor Emily Blunt won awards at the 2019 Golden Globes, the married couple’s perfection still managed to shine through the television screen.

Blunt, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the 76th Golden Globes for her revival of Julia Andrews’ iconic character in Mary Poppins Returns, took the stage with the original film’s legendary Dick Van Dyke.

And when cameras panned the audience, they found Krasinski, cheering on his wife with the most enthusiasm. Blunt reacted with a sweet smile, capturing the hearts of everyone watching.

It’s not the first time a celebrity’s cheers from the audience have become sensational on the internet, though. It’s hard to forget the meme of Meryl Streep’s audience cheer from the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards, or her reenactment of the meme at the 2018 Oscars. Krasinski’s cheers for Blunt—who starred with Streep in The Devil Wears Prada—were easy to compare.

Twitter users immediately fell in love with Krasinski’s romantic and emphatic support. The pair got married in 2010, and have provided evidence to many fans that true love can exist in Hollywood.

In Their Freewheeling Movie Love, the Golden Globes Have Become an Agenda Setter (Column)

Seven weeks from now, could “Bohemian Rhapsody” win the Academy Award for best picture? You might say: It doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. The Golden Globes Were an Embarrassment Not Even Sandra Oh Could Save

Paul Drinkwater/Getty

This awards season thus far has been a scorching, sizzling, flaming mess. Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards just gleefully leapt onto the fire.

From the Oscars’ host fiasco to terrible, tone-deaf films becoming category frontrunners, to the struggle to find continued meaning and gravitas a year after the galvanizing first #MeToo-era ceremonies, the Golden Globes was already set in stormy weather. But it also had the potential to clear the skies to much-needed sunshine.

There was tangible excitement for hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, an unlikely and beloved pair. This is the venue where Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey delivered acceptance speeches that doubled as rousing sermons dictating our entire national discourse. Even the Globes’ notorious kookiness was promising: Times are tough, but at the very least we’ll probably get to see Lady Gaga take home an award. What fun!

Christian Bale Rips ‘Charisma-Free Assholes’ Dick Cheney and Mitch McConnell at Golden Globes

Handout

Accepting his award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for playing the title role of Dick Cheney in Vice on Sunday night, Christian Bale shared some advice from his wife. She told him, “Less is more.”

“She knows the dumb crap that can come out of my mouth at times,” Bale said. “I can sink and ruin a perfectly good movie in a so-so career in one speech,” the actor continued. “So thank you for that advice, my love.”

From there, Bale went on to thank the film’s writer and director Adam McKay. “He said I’ve got to find somebody that can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody,” he said, adding that from now on he “will be cornering the market on the charisma-free assholes.”

The biggest fashion trend at the 2019 Golden Globes was see-through corsets and bras

When it comes to awards season, we all love a good fashion and beauty trend. At the 2019 Golden Globes, celebrities made sure to light up the show with dazzling ensembles. We’re talking bride-like gowns, dresses with pockets, and more.

While big ballgowns flooded the red carpet, the trend that caught our attention was a little more risqué. We noticed a lot of exposed corsets and see-through tops that added a touch of high fashion. Of course, no outfit was the same. Some stars opted for a simple silhouette that had a fairytale-like design while others sizzled in jewels and lace. From Emily Blunt to Kiki Layne, these are the stars that have us searching for exposed bras and corsets.

Leave it to Heidi to show up and show out on the red carpet. Not only did she attend the star-studded event with her new fiancé Tom Kaulitz from Tokio Hotel, but she wore a whimsical Monique Lhuillier dress. Her ballgown featured an exposed corset and a bouquet of flowers at the skirt.
