Anna Sorokin Found Guilty of Grand Larceny

Anna Sorokin has been found guilty of grand larceny.
Sorokin, who posed under the fake name of Anna Delvey and stole more than $ 200,000 from investors, banks and many of her friends, was convicted on Thursday on multiple charges, including one count of first-degree attempted grand larceny, second-degree grand larceny and theft of services, after a monthlong trial in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, according to the New York Times. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
The 28-year-old was charged in 2017 after posing as a fake German heiress and New York socialite, swindling bank loans and funds to pay for her lavish lifestyle, which included stays at luxury New York hotels, international getaways and her designer wardrobe.
She had also attempted — and failed — to raise a reported $ 22 million to open an exclusive arts club in Manhattan, which she received another charge of first-degree grand larceny. The jury found her not guilty for this charge.
Aside from the charges, Sorokin’s court appearances made headlines due to her sartorial choices. Per GQ, Sorokin’s lawyer, Todd Spodek, hired stylist Anastasia Walker to help dress Sorokin for her court appearances in designer labels such as Michael Kors, Saint Laurent and Victoria Beckham,

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid

Seagram’s heiress Clare Bronfman pleaded guilty Friday afternoon for her role in NXIVM, a purported cult in which women were allegedly branded and groomed for sex with the group’s leader.

Bronfman, 40, who was once NXIVM’s operations director and one of its largest donors, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to conceal and harbor illegal aliens for financial gain and fraudulent use of identification. The group’s bookkeeper Kathy Russell, 61, also pleaded guilty Friday to one count of racketeering conspiracy before U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn federal court.

After initially fighting the charges, the two women are now the fourth and fifth defendants to plead guilty in the case, leaving NXIVM founder Keith Raniere to stand trial alone next month.

Loughlin, Giannulli Plead Not Guilty In College Scam

BOSTON (AP) — Actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are pleading not guilty to charges they took part in the sweeping college admissions bribery scam, according to court documents filed Monday.

The couple is accused of paying $ 500,000 in bribes to get their daughters admitted to the University of Southern California as crew recruits, even though neither is a rower.

They were among 50 people charged last month in the scandal that has embroiled elite school across the country, including Stanford, Georgetown and Yale.

Loughlin, who played Aunt Becky on the sitcom “Full House,” and Giannulli haven’t publicly addressed the allegations against them.

Loughlin and Giannulli said in the court documents that they waived their right to appear in Boston federal court for their arraignment and plead not guilty to the two charges against them. The judge must approve their request not to appear to formally enter their pleas.

Thirty-three wealthy parents were charged in what authorities have called the biggest college admissions case ever prosecuted by the Justice Department.

The parents are accused of paying admissions consultant Rick Singer to rig standardized test scores and bribe college coaches and other insiders to get their children into selective schools.

Fellow actress Felicity Huffman, who starred in ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” and 12 other parents announced last week that they have agreed to plead guilty to a single charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. Huffman is scheduled to appear in Boston on May 21 to enter her plea.

Prosecutors added a money laundering conspiracy charge against Loughlin, Giannulli and more than a dozen other parents who are still fighting the case, increasing the pressure on them to plead guilty.

Several other parents who were indicted alongside Loughlin and Giannulli last week have also filed court documents entering not guilty pleas.

Each of the charges Loughlin and Giannulli face call for up to 20 years in prison, although first-time offenders would get only a small fraction of that if convicted.

Prosecutors have said they will seek a prison sentence on the low end of four to 10 months for Huffman, who was charged with paying $ 15,000 to boost her daughter’s SAT score.

Rick Singer, the consultant at the center of the scheme, pleaded guilty to charges including racketeering conspiracy on March 12, the same day the allegations against the parents and coaches were made public in the so-called Operations Varsity Blues investigation.

Felicity Huffman Adresses College Entrance Scandal After Pleading Guilty: ‘I’m Ashamed Of Pain I Caused My Daughter’

After pleading guilty in her massive college entrance fraud case, Desperate Housewives actress, Felicity Huffman opened up about the whole thing for the first time. Here’s what she had to say!

Huffman broke her silence on the drama and made it very clear that she accepts ‘full responsibility’ for what she’d done.

In an official statement the star released earlier today, she said: ‘I’m in full acceptance of my guilt, and with regret and shame over what I’ve done, I accept the full responsibility for my actions and I will accept all of the consequences that stem from those actions.’

Felicity went on to say that what causes her the most regret and shame is the hurt her daughter has been feeling because of her.

But of course, she is not the only one affected by the scandal, something the actress acknowledged by saying that ‘I am ashamed of the pain that I have caused my daughter, family, friends, colleagues and the educational community. I want to apologize to them and to all the students who work hard every single day to get into college, as well as to their parents who make immense sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly.’

As for whether or not her daughter was aware of the illegal way in which she managed to get into college, Felicity insisted that she knew nothing about it, which makes her feel even more like she’d ‘betrayed’ her.

She concluded her statement by expressing a deep regret that will stay with her forever: ‘This transgression toward her and the public I’ll carry for the rest of my life. My desire to help my daughter is not an excuse to break the law or engage in dishonesty.’

Bethenny Frankel Was Planning To Dump Dennis Shields – Admits She Feels ‘Guilty’ For His Death

During a RHONY episode, Bethenny Frankel admitted that she was planning on dumping Dennis Shields the week of his passing! That never ended up happening since her ex lost his life before she could break up with him, but that doesn’t mean she feels any less guilty about it.

It’s been more than seven months since Dennis Shields passed away but it sounds like Bethenny is still struggling with the loss, as well as feeling responsible for it.

Frankel explained that ‘He had such a powerful force in my life and [was] such a loving person and my daughter loved him that it was this whole thing that was hard to extricate myself from. But I had just said that week, the Saturday before ‘I have to exit this dynamic.’’

She went on to tell her therapist: ‘So then it was on my mind about him dying right after a lot. I couldn’t get off the ride and I feel guilty the only way I got off the ride is that he is dead.’

Struggling to fight the tears, Bethenny recalled that ‘Dennis told me, [if] we did not work out, he was never going to be in another relationship again. He was going to be alone for the rest of his life. It was tremendous pressure and it kept me in. I do not know what happened that night and I will always have to live with that.’

The reality TV star expressed that the therapy session had helped her a lot but because she was feeling better, she also felt guilty about it.

Bethenny argued however that she knows her late ex would want her to feel better after all, so she is determined to respect his wishes.

R. Kelly Pleads Not Guilty to 10 Counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse

UPDATE 2/25 11:00 a.m. ET: R. Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf during an arraignment hearing in Chicago on Monday, February 25. The performer’s next court date is scheduled for March 22.

Original story below:

R. Kelly, who has been accused of sexually abusing young women for more than two decades, was arrested on Friday, February 22.

The “Ignition (Remix)” singer, 52, turned himself in at a Chicago police station at approximately 8:15 p.m., hours after being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for alleged incidents that involved four victims and occurred between 1998 and 2010. At least three of the victims were between the ages of 13 and 17.

A Cook County, Illinois, judge had issued a no-bail warrant for Kelly’s arrest earlier on Friday after the four indictments were filed. He is expected to be held in custody overnight before a scheduled appearance in court on Saturday, February 23.

“He is extraordinarily disappointed and depressed,” Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, told the Associated Press. “He is shell-shocked by this.”

Attorney Michael Avenatti announced on February 14 that he handed over a newly discovered videotape to Chicago prosecutors that allegedly shows Kelly having sex with an underage girl. CNN also reviewed the footage and reported that “a naked man who appears to be R. Kelly is seen performing multiple sex acts with the girl,” whom he repeatedly refers to as “14 years old.”

Kelly has been accused of sexual abuse, manipulation and inappropriate behavior since the early 1990s, but he has long maintained his innocence.

In 1994, the three-time Grammy winner illegally married his then-15-year-old protégée, Aaliyah. Their union was annulled months later at the behest of the late songstress’ family. Then in 2002, a video surfaced showing a man who appeared to be Kelly having sex with and urinating on an underage girl. He was subsequently arrested on 13 counts of child pornography, but a jury acquitted him six years later.

Kelly made headlines again in 2017 when BuzzFeed News reported that he allegedly held a group of women against their will in what the site described as an “abusive cult.” He also denied those claims, as have some of the women.

More recently, the R&B performer was the subject of Lifetime’s six-part docuseries Surviving R. Kelly, which included more than 50 interviews with his former collaborators and accusers. Activists and celebrities later launched the social media movement #MuteRKelly to call on streaming services to drop his music.

Giants QB Kyle Lauletta pleads guilty to disorderly charge

New York Giants rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta pleaded guilty Tuesday to a disorderly persons offense and two tickets for an improper turn and disregarding an officer’s instructions back in October, according to his lawyer Gerald Krovatin. The criminal charges of eluding police and the subsequent disorderly persons charges were dropped Tuesday in Hudson County Court. Lauletta will have all charges dropped if he avoids further trouble over the next 12 months as part of the conditional dismissal program in New Jersey. Lauletta was arrested in October for various motor vehicle and related disorderly persons offenses pertaining to a traffic violation in Weehawken, New Jersey. The police alleged he tried to make a right turn from the wrong lane in his Jaguar to get to Route 495 West for the second straight day. He was told to keep going straight, but Lauletta almost struck an officer while making the illegal turn and then "refused various instructions" after…

Janice Dickinson – The Alleged Victim Says She ‘Laughed With Joy And Relief’ Upon Learning About Bill Cosby’s Guilty Verdict!

One of the many women who accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault, Janice Dickinson, made it very clear that she couldn’t be any happier about the man’s prison sentence. The retired supermodel, now 63, was in attendance at the Carousel of Hope Ball last night and while there, she talked to ET, opening up about Brett Kavanaugh frustratingly getting onto the Supreme Court despite the accusations brought against him.

But at least Bill Cosby was found guilty, right?

‘I have had a tough week because of the Kavanaugh thing and I really am an activist that is behind women because I was not believed in the beginning. You have to believe the women, so I am going to keep my fight going.’

She went on to share that ‘I am still suing Cosby in a civil case, even if my attorney Lisa Bloom has to go to prison to take his deposition. But, you know what, I feel vindicated. We came out on top and it was just really a good thing for all women for the biggest serial rapist in the United States history gets taken away in handcuffs.’

The outlet’s reporter was curious to know how she reacted when learning about Cosby’s verdict.

‘I just laughed. Others cried. I was laughing just with joy and relief that he will not be able to do that to another woman,’ Dickinson responded.

She also previously talked to the Daily Mail shortly after the sentencing, saying: ‘I have been holding this in since 1982 and it is slowly seeping out of me, the toxicity levels of emotion and the catastrophic pain and the nightmares for so many years. I just bounced out of bed and was like, ‘Wow.’’

Jason Van Dyke Found Guilty Of Murder In Shooting Death Of LaQuan McDonald

US-CRIME-CHICAGO-POLICE-TRIAL-court

Source: ANTONIO PEREZ / Getty

Somewhat surprisingly, former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty for the death  LaQuan McDonald. The fact many people are shocked a cop was taken to task is a testament to the state of the justice system.

Van Dyke, who is white, was found guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of the Black 17-year-old in 2014.

Reports CNN:

Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder in the 2014 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

Van Dyke, who was also found guilty of 16 counts of aggravated battery, sat impassively in a dark suit — his shoulders slumped — as the verdicts were read in the high-profile case. At one point, he sipped water from a bottle. He was found not guilty of official misconduct.
The officer’s wife sat stoically, arms folded, as the long verdict was delivered. His father lowered his head while some members of the McDonald family held hands.
Van Dyke’s bond was revoked and sentencing was scheduled for October 31. He was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

Van Dyke is reportedly the first Chicago police officer to be even charged with first-degree murder since 1980. Think about that.

The convicted murderer faces a minimum of 6 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Good riddance.

Too Lit! Border Agent Pleads Guilty to Accidentally Starting a Wildfire During a Gender Reveal Party, Fined $220K

An Arizona border patrol agent accidentally started a wildfire with a firearm and explosives during a gender reveal party and has been ordered to pay a hefty fine.

via Complex:

Arizona Daily Star reports that border patrol agent Dennis Dickey was off-duty at the time of the incident that resulted in a massive fire that quickly spread.

Dickey reportedly shot at the explosive Tannerite, with the color of the subsequent powder plume to reveal the expected sex of the baby. Blue symbolized boy and pink for girl. Things didn’t go exactly as planned.

At the time the blaze began, the National Weather Service had issued a fire watch warning. When Dickey shot at the target, the colored explosion ignited. Dickey reported the fire at the time of the incident, which went down back in April of 2017 close to Madera Canyon, and admitted he was responsible for the blaze.

“It was a complete accident,” Dickey said to the judge. “I feel absolutely horrible about it. It was probably one of the worst days of my life.” Dickey pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense of causing a fire without a permit, and has been ordered to pay a cool $ 220,000 in restitution. He will also serve five years of probation.

According to the Department of Justice, the Sawmill Fire that he caused resulted in over $ 8 million in damages. It eventually spread across an astonishing 47,000 acres over a week and around 800 firefighters were called on to fight the blaze.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

For those wondering, none of the news articles we’ve read about this story indicate whether he had a boy or a girl.
