Pure Evil and Ben Eine host a panel talk in Brighton

artrepublic are excited to announce the launch of season 2 of our podcast ‘art related noise’ Hosted by Inspiring City, specialising in all things arty and interesting, focuses on bringing some of the most genuine and unique artist interviews from across the UK.

To kick off the new season, artrepublic are celebrating the unveiling of new artworks from Ben Eine and Pure Evil (Charlie) on the walls of the Brighton’s Artists Residence Hotel in style. We’re hosting a four-course tasting menu at The Set restaurant, which will precede a panel talk with Ben and Pure Evil themselves. The panel discussion will be recorded live for episode one of the new season of podcasts from Inspiring City.  After the panel talk, guests will be invited to explore the rooms and the new artwork with the artists. Tickets are £75 per person, including a welcome drink.

Book your place at our panel talk with Ben Eine and Pure Evil

The aim is to bring the admirers of art and the artists closer together, to create the opportunity for open discussion of their works and influences. To be able to meet world-class contemporary artists in such an intimate setting and hear first-hand about their work is a rare opportunity, and artrepublic are very excited to make this happen!

The panel talk will be kicking off with a discussion about street art vs fine art, the influences the two have had respectively on the work of Ben and Charlie and debating their places within our society at the moment. With 25 years in the game, Ben Eine is often regarded as a pioneer in the type space. Innovating the form with his own exploration of graffiti, he developed his unique typographic style that can be seen within our gallery and on the streets of Brighton and London respectively. Charlie was also heavily influenced by graffiti culture, his ‘most important artistic discovery’, one that is still prevalent within his best-known work. The iconic blotch of dripping paint underneath the eye of his muses lends itself to the influence of street art, a trademark that is now globally recognised as his.

The conversations look to get under the skin of the art world and see what makes it tick. Season one featured huge names of beloved artists such as Sara Pope, Jason Lilley and most recently Mark Vessey. We’re excited to see what season two has in store.

Chanel and Barneys Host Dinner Party at Freds for Influencers and Top Buyers

EPHEMERAL, NOT POP-UP: Chanel and Barneys threw an intimate cocktail and dinner party inside the tony department store Wednesday night to celebrate their new partnership. It was also a chance for the two companies to invite influencers and top shoppers from New York City to check out the new collection, one that Barneys hopes will lead to a lasting partnership with Chanel, existing beyond the realm of just a pop-up shop. (That’s why this collection lives in an “ephemeral boutique.”)
Outside the store, the windows on Madison Avenue were filled with beach scenes: wicker baskets, chiffon printed dresses and one-piece swimsuits designed by the French maison especially for Barneys.
Pairs of jeans, canary yellow blazers and beach ball-inspired purses were all on display on the sixth floor. There, guests including Leandra Medine, Vanessa Traina and Atlanta de Cadenet milled about among the mannequins, posing for photographs next to enlarged “CHA” and “NEL” letters. Among this crowd, there were tweed jackets, 3.55 bags and elegant tailoring synonymous with Chanel as far as the eye could see. FIFA Will Publicize Its Vote on the 2023 Women’s World Cup Host

(MIAMI) — FIFA has agreed to make public its vote on the host for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The organization’s decision-making body is becoming more transparent after concerns were raised last month that the women’s tournament wouldn’t fully follow the new voting process for the men’s World Cup.

The United States, Canada and Mexico were chosen last year to host the 2026 World Cup. The votes by the FIFA Congress of all member associations were published. Previously, the decisions were taken in private by the scandal-discredited FIFA executive committee, which was renamed the FIFA Council in 2016.

But FIFA announced last month that its 37-person council would still decide on the destination of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with no mention of votes being publicly declared.

Now, FIFA has said following a meeting in Miami that after the council makes its decision in March 2020, the “result of each ballot and related votes of each member” will be “open and made public.”

It could be the most hotly contested bidding process for the tournament, which was first staged in 1991. Australia, Colombia, Japan and South Africa have been exploring bids. South Korea submitted a proposal to North Korea to jointly bid.

FIFA asked countries interested in bidding to do so by Friday, but it has yet to disclose who made submissions. Bidders have until April 16 to complete their bidding registrations, and bid books must be submitted by Oct. 4.

Tichina Arnold Announced As Host For 10th Annual AAFCA Awards Show

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) is pleased to let you know that Tichina Arnold has been chosen as the host of its milestone 10th Annual Awards Show. A multi-hyphenated performer, Arnold has been a mainstay in Hollywood and currently stars as Tina Butler opposite Cedric the Entertainer on the CBS hit comedy, “The Neighborhood,” which was recently renewed for its second season.

“We are thrilled to have Tichina Arnold host our milestone show,” shared Gil Robertson, AAFCA President/CEO. “If there is anyone who knows about longevity in Hollywood, it’s this amazingly talented woman. In an industry frequently called out for a past where roles for black actors and women have been rare, Tichina has risen above the limitations to hammer out a magnificent career spanning nearly 40 years on pure talent and persistence. Her brilliance as a comedic actress is why her roles as Pam on “Martin,” Rochelle on “Everybody Hates Chris,” Cassie on “Survivor’s Remorse” and now Tina on “The Neighborhood” are so beloved.

A talented singer and underrated dramatic actress as well, Tichina is just a gem and we couldn’t be more pleased that she has chosen to share all those gifts with us as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of our awards show.”

“It’s an honor for me to host this year’s 10th Annual AAFCA Awards,” said Tichina Arnold. “I’ve known Gil Robertson for decades and the AAFCA Organization is a vital and necessary force for changes within our industry. As important as it is for black people to be seen on the screen, it is just as important to have representation throughout all facets of the creative process.

AAFCA’s mission to foster an environment of inclusiveness within Hollywood through acknowledging filmmakers whom resonate within the black community and overall industry is an important one. In the past 10 years, I’ve seen AAFCA grow into a powerhouse with sway at every major network and studio. I’m so proud to help celebrate this incredible milestone with AAFCA and look forward to a thrilling night with old and new friends!”

The 10th Annual AAFCA Awards Show takes place on Wednesday, February 6, at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. Awards will be presented for such films as the global blockbuster “Black Panther” and to such luminaries as Quincy Jones.

Ellen DeGeneres Says She Wants Kevin Hart to Be the Oscars Host Despite Homophobic Comments

Ellen DeGeneres said she wants Kevin Hart to be the host of the 2019 Academy Awards – despite the revelation of homophobic comments that he posted on social media.

The Ellen Show host, one of the first openly lesbian Hollywood stars, announced her support for Hart after a candid interview on her talk show in which he apologized again for the remarks.

“I believe in forgiveness. I believe in second chances. And I believe in Kevin Hart,” DeGeneres wrote on Twitter Friday.

During the interview – set to air Friday – Hart said that when homophobic slurs and jokes he had made “a decade ago” resurfaced in December, when it was announced he would be hosting the Oscars, he was unwilling to apologize because he had already “addressed” his past homophobia.

In the end, he stood down and later apologized again for his comments – which included saying in 2010 that one of his biggest fears was his son growing up to be gay. Some of his now-deleted homophobic tweets were posted in 2011, according to BuzzFeed News.

“When it happened,” he said of his comments resurfacing, “my first thought is, I’m going to ignore it because it’s ten years old. This is stuff I’ve addressed, I’ve talked about this. This isn’t new,” he said. “I’ve apologized for it.”

He went on, “I’ve taken 10 years to put that apology to work … I look at life through a different lens, and because of that I live it a different way … I don’t joke like that any more. Because that was wrong.”

“I know you’re not that guy, because I know you,” said Ellen, after a long period where she allowed Hart to talk uninterrupted. “The night will be about you, and it should be about you, and you should host the Oscars.”

A source told People magazine on Thursday that the Academy was considering asking Hart back after the controversy.

But some Twitter users were not convinced. “It’s depressing that Ellen’s enthusiasm for Hart hosting the Oscars … led her to contribute to a narrative that Hart is the victim of “haters” & “trolls” out to “destroy” him,” said Adam Vary, a journalist for BuzzFeed and one of the Twitter users who highlighted Hart’s homophobia when it was first announced he would be hosting the Oscars.

“LGBT people who love the Oscars were legitimately startled to see just how harsh his words were,” Vary said.

Should the Oscars Fire Host Kevin Hart Over His Homophobic Jokes?

Hosting the Academy Awards is an infamously thankless gig, exposing the emcee to intense scrutiny from the culturati and critics, typically with little to gain professionally in exchange. It’s gotten so bad that earlier this week, in response to the fact that dozens of celebrities had turned down the Academy’s requests to preside over this year’s ceremony, The Hollywood Reporter proclaimed hosting the Oscars “the least wanted job in Hollywood.”

That was, of course, mere hours before the Academy announced that comedian Kevin Hart had taken the job.

Hart actually wanted the job very much, and has been on record saying as much over the years. He announced that he was “blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time” when he shared the news on Instagram. Cardi B’s Producer, Other Top Producers, Host Music Beat Auction

We’ve heard of silent auctions, but this is a new one. Top producers in music have gotten together to host a private Beat Auction giving the opportunity to upcoming and established music professionals to acquire high-quality compositions that are not easily accessible otherwise. Some of these producers include Zaytoven, one of the most sought-after producers in hip-hop; Drumma Boy, a popular Atlanta notable; J White, the man behind most of Cardi B’s productions; AnonXmous, known for hits like “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, and a slew of others. The Beat Auction was hosted by Atlanta’s own, Dj Holiday.

Cardi B

Atlanta Beat Auction ((Image: TMI Worldwide)

The evening unfolded with each producer showcasing their beats to a room full of ready and waiting auctioneers. Bids started at $ 300 and went as high as $ 1200. This is incredible considering the prices of beats from this caliber of individuals can typically range from tens of thousands of dollars upward and many times include royalties on an artist’s album that keeps them getting paid long after they’ve handed over the beat.

So why a beat auction?

“After years of working within the music industry, I have come across countless talented artist with promising potential,” said Khady Thiam Gueye, founder and CEO of TMI, and the creator of the concept. “Often times the only thing standing in their way of a hit record is quality production. A lack of resources has forced many artists to settle for mediocre, overused beats from either YouTube or beginner producers. I knew we had to bridge that gap and provide artists with the opportunity to catapult their music careers through industry standard, exclusive compositions from legendary producers.”

The overall goal is to ultimately revolutionize the way hit records are created. As the team continues to host Beat Auctions across a global platform, they foresee international collaborations leading to billboard topping records. By widening the door of opportunity, they anticipate a wave of new mainstream artists, as well as sensational emerging producers whose talents would otherwise go unnoticed.

All proceeds went to “Music Education Group” a group formed to bring music, film, and digital music based education to underserved youth.

When did Victoria Derbyshire have breast cancer?

In 2015 she announced via Twitter that she had breast cancer, and then recorded video diaries of her battle with the disease.

The vlogs detailed everything about her cancer treatment from chemo and radiotherapy to her eventual mastectomy.

In May 2017 she finished her treatment and got the all clear.

Speaking to the BBC she said: “Obviously I never want [the cancer to reoccur], I never want to go through chemotherapy again ever, I just do not want it to come back…

“I just want this to have been a blip and get on with my life, my kids’ life, my partner’s life, my family’s future.”

Ex-ESPN Host Jemele Hill Heads To ‘The Atlantic’

Jemele Hill

That didn’t take long. After recently saying “peace out” to ESPN, Jemele Hill has a new gig at The Atlantic

Yesterday (Oct. 1), the publication made the announcement that Hill would be getting down as a staff writer. Hill will be tasked with “covering the intersection of sports, race, politics, gender, and culture,” per the Atlantic‘s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg.

“The Atlantic made perfect sense to me because during this period, it’s critical to be aligned with people who understand this mission: Sports is a great entry point for exploring what’s happening in the wider society,” said Hill via a press release. “You can’t talk about sports without talking about race, class, gender and politics. I want to explore the complications and discomforts with a publication that has a long history of supporting this kind of work.”

Recently, Hill departed ESPN but not before securing a sizeable bag. Reportedly her buyout from the network, where she worked for over a decade, was worth a cool $ 6 million.

Hill became a flashpoint at ESPN after her comments regarding NFL protests got her suspended and even the attention of Donald Trump and the White House.

Nevertheless, she was named the 2018 Journalist of the Year by the NABJ.

Hill starts her new job at the Atlantic next week and she will be based out of Los Angeles.
