Huawei rips US government over China spying accusations

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei lashed out at Uncle Sam Friday after reporting a record $ 105 billion in sales for 2018. “The US government has a loser’s attitude,” Chairman Guo Ping said at a press conference. “They want to smear Huawei because they can’t compete with us.” Guo was referencing Washington’s concerns that Huawei equipment could…

Gentle Monster, Huawei Team Up for Connected Eyewear

BRANCHING OUT: Gentle Monster, the buzzy South Korean label known for futuristic, high-end eyewear and peculiar retail concepts — a London store features kung fu-fighting aliens — has teamed with Huawei for connected eyewear set to launch this summer.
The new accessory was introduced at the tail end of a splashy smartphone launch by the Chinese tech giant in Paris on Tuesday, which was mostly focused on the power of the phone’s camera, but also included a power bank, ear buds and a new triathlon mode for its smart watches. The eyewear was introduced as “one more stylish thing.”
“You can pick up a phone call when your phone is in your pocket or your bag,” said Richard Yu, chief executive officer of the Chinese tech giant’s consumer business group, strolling across a stage in front of a colossal screen. “It’s a new fusion of fashion and technologies,” he added.
Hankook Kim, the soft-spoken cofounder and ceo of Gentle Monster, also took to the stage, explaining that the label’s 18 stores are different — each with an individual and elaborate theme, built by in-house design teams — and showing images of futuristic eyewear.
“At the same time, we can make normal sunglasses,” he added.

Huawei connects rural America. Could it threaten the country’s most sensitive military sites?

Outside Malmstrom Air Force Base in central Montana, spread across 13,800 square miles of open plains, more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles stand at the ready, buried deep underground in missile silos. These Minuteman III rockets are capable of delivering nuclear warheads at least 6,000 miles away and are part of the U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees the country’s nuclear and missile arsenal.

Huawei announces it will sue the U.S. government

TwitterFacebook

Huawei is taking its fight against the U.S. to the courts.

The Chinese tech giant announced on Thursday it would be filing a lawsuit against the U.S. government, which has accused Huawei of being a spy threat and placed restrictions on its products.

Huawei rotating chairman Guo Ping said the company wants to challenge the constitutionality of the National Defense Authorization Act, which saw Huawei’s products banned in the U.S., and also to seek an injunction against those restrictions.

Guo said the U.S. government has failed to provide evidence on it being a security threat, and has convinced other countries to not use its products. Read more…

Huawei has had enough, reportedly plans to file suit against the US

Huawei US ban

A new chapter in the ongoing flap between the US and Huawei is about to get under way, with the Chinese smartphone maker reportedly planning a lawsuit to be filed against the US government later this week in Texas.

That’s where the company’s US office is located, and word of the suit comes via The New York Times, which reports that the lawsuit will focus on a defense spending authorization approved by Congress last year. In it, the federal government barred itself from using products made by Huawei as well as another Chinese hardware maker, ZTE.

LG, Huawei, and Samsung all think Flex is a great name for a foldable phone

LG foldable phone

Some of the big tech companies leading the way when it comes to foldable phones aren’t exactly flexing their creative muscles when it comes to choosing a name for their novel handsets.

Ok, granted, there are probably only so many naming conventions that accurately convey what you as a consumer are getting when you buy a phone with a bendable screen. Nevertheless, possible names for the first foldable handsets coming out of LG, Huawei, and Samsung have all started to leak out. None of those companies has made a firm decision yet, but it’s interesting that they’re all considering similar names for their devices. Like, really similar.
